Matthew Stuckey here from Verity Baptist Church Manila providing you with an answer to a supposed Bible Contradition or Bible Error. And in Nahum chapter 2 verse 12 the Bible reads, The lion did tear in pieces enough for his welts, and strangled for his lionesses, and filled his holes with prey and his tent with wrath. And so the Bible says here in Nahum chapter 2 verse 12, it talks about the lion hunting and strangling for his lionesses. This is the male lion strangling for his, the female lions. Now, one thing that's been popularly said is that male lions do not hunt. And you might have heard that before, and in the past it was a more commonly thought thing that male lions don't do any hunting. Only the female lions hunt, and they hunt, and then the male lions reap the benefits. Whereas the Bible says here in Nahum chapter 2 verse 12, it talks about the male lions strangling for the lionesses. Now, one thing that would completely disprove this off the outset is you can just go to YouTube and watch male lions hunt. You can just go to Google and look at pictures of male lions actually hunting. So, it's definitely disproven that they don't do any hunting whatsoever. But, you know, the Bible talks about male lions hunting, and yet why do people think for a long time that they didn't? Well, the truth is you don't really see male lions hunting that much. You generally both see the female lions hunt, and you say, well, why is that? Well, the reason why, a few reasons. One is because male lions, they do most of their hunting at night. They don't do it during the day. And so nowadays is we have, you know, video cameras, we have things on YouTube, Facebook videos and all this stuff. Plenty of videos, plenty of images and everything have been seen, and we know that male lions are hunting a good bit. But it's being done mainly at night, and so that is really the big reason why people were not aware of this in the past. And you say, well, why do they hunt at night? Well, you know, a few reasons why. One is because the manes that they have will often cause them to overheat during the day. And so if they're hunting during the day, it can actually be bad. It can cause them to overheat. But even more so probably is that the manes kind of stand out. They're not able to blend in with surroundings as much as the lionesses are. And so male lions, you know, with the manes kind of standing out during the day, you know, their enemies that they're trying to kill are more easily able to get away. And so they're more effective to do this at night. Now, as a Christian, this actually makes a lot of sense because the Bible talks about the devil as a roaring lion, walking about seeking whom he may devour. And see, the devil is very subtle. The devil is very dangerous. The devil is very conniving and smart. And the devil attacks when you don't expect it, when you don't see it coming. And see, when you think about male lions, that's generally how they're attacking. They will confuse their enemies. They will come at a time not expected. They will come at a time where they can't be seen because they're generally coming at nighttime instead of during the day where they can be seen. And see, that's the same way the devil comes. He doesn't come at you when you're expecting it or where you're expecting it at. And so you can actually be being attacked by the devil without even being aware of it. And so what we're seeing here is that even with nature and even with the things God's created, it helps us understand the Bible. And there's a reason why the devil is listed as a roaring lion. How do lions attack? Well, they attack kind of subtly at nighttime. They don't generally attack during the day. During the day, they're there more for protection as opposed to just going out and hunting during the day. Now, male lions, when they're young, they're on their own and they have to hunt for their survival. They can't simply be scavengers and it's new to them and they have to learn how to do it. But they do learn how to do it and they do kill. And you can see plenty of videos on YouTube, plenty of images where you see male lions hunting. And then especially at nighttime is when they're most effective because they don't overheat their manes, they don't stand out because of their manes, and they're able to attack subtly where they're not expected. So this is not a contradiction in the Bible. And honestly, in today's world, it's other than people kind of repeating something they've heard from generation to generation. Because you can go on Google and see people talk about how male lions don't hunt. But they've never even looked at YouTube for watching videos or looked at any images which would disprove them. But this is something that, you know, people have been more educated. That's not something that they would say is an error at the bottom of the day because that's already been disproved wrong. What it does show is that there have been many so-called errors in the Bible. Like, for example, the Bible talking about, you know, dinosaurs, dragons in the book of Job. And people said, well, those never existed. And now, of course, they know that dinosaurs didn't exist. They have the Romans, they have the apostles, things like that. And so it just kind of shows that people want to mock the Bible, they want to dismiss the Bible. But if there's something in the Bible we don't understand, you have to realize that, you know, the Bible is not an error. There are no contradictions in the Bible. It's just our understanding might not be fully right. And that might be why we repeat. Anyways, thank you and God bless.
