(Disclaimer: This transcript is auto-generated and may contain mistakes.) Hi, this is Pastor Roger Jimenez from Verity Baptist Church in Sacramento, California. Today I'm making a video to answer the question, should Christians celebrate Halloween? The fall season is a great time of year to do all sorts of fall events, but there is one holiday that falls in October that unfortunately many Christians take a part of and they should not be participating in. It's the holiday of Halloween. Now we should not be celebrating Halloween because of the fact that Halloween celebrates things that Christians should not be promoting. In this video I want to give you four reasons why Christians should not celebrate Halloween. The first reason is because Halloween celebrates death. When you think of Halloween and you think of the Halloween decorations, what do you think of? You think of skeletons, you think of dead people, you think of ghosts. The holiday itself celebrates death. In Proverbs chapter 8 and verse 35, wisdom is personified and wisdom is speaking and here's what it says. It says, for whoso findeth me findeth life and shall obtain favor of the Lord. Verse 36 says this, but he that sinneth against me wrongeth his own soul. All they that hate me love death. We of course know that the Bible says that the fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge and the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, but here wisdom is speaking and it says all they that hate me love death. And if we love wisdom and we love the fear of the Lord, we should not love death, but Halloween celebrates death. The second thing that Halloween celebrates that Christians should not be celebrating is that it celebrates darkness. John 3 19 says this, and this is the condemnation that light is come into the world and men love darkness rather than light because their deeds were evil. The Bible tells us that we should not be celebrating darkness. Darkness embodies sin. If you think about it, gruesome sins and major sins happen in the dark. People get drunk, the Bible says, in the dark. People commit violent crimes and murder and rape in the dark. People commit fornication and adultery in the dark. People do things in the dark that they would never do in the light. That s why sinful places like bars, like casinos, like nightclubs, they re always dark. And we as Christians, the Bible says we are the children of light. We should not feel comfortable or promote darkness, but Halloween celebrates darkness. You wait until it gets dark to go outside and to partake in the Halloween activities. The third reason that Christians should not celebrate Halloween is because Halloween celebrates fear. 2 Timothy 1 7 says this, For God hath not given us the spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. All throughout the Bible we re told to fear God, to fear the Lord, but we re never commanded to fear anything else. But Halloween, that s what the whole holiday is about. It s all about being scared and about going to haunted houses or having people scare you and it is promoting this idea of fear and of being scared. But we as Christians, the Bible says that God has not given us the spirit of fear, so that is not something that we should be promoting. The last thing I want to share with you in regards to what Halloween celebrates is that it celebrates the occult. And of course when you think of Halloween, you think of witches, you think of wizards, you think of ghosts, you think of all those types of things. Now today people don t understand that the occult is a real thing. Today people think that the occult is just fun and it s funny and it s fake. But the Bible does not see the occult in that way. In Deuteronomy chapter 18 and verse 10, the Bible says, There shall not be found among you, anyone that maketh a son or his daughter, to pass through the fire, or that useth divination. Or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch. In fact in Exodus 22 and verse 18, the Bible says this, Thou shalt not suffer a witch to live. The word suffer there means allow. And God is saying don t allow a witch to live. He puts the death penalty on witchcraft. The Bible takes this very seriously and we should not partake in a holiday that celebrates and that promotes these types of things. So I hope that you will consider these things before you decide as a Christian to partake in this holiday and ask yourself, Does God want me to celebrate death? Does God want me to celebrate darkness? Does God want me to celebrate fear? Does God want me to celebrate the occult?
