It's, uh, me, Alex here, on BibleTruth23, and I want to talk about the fact that it is Easter today, or, as some would call it, Resurrection Sunday, the celebration of the fact that Jesus Christ rose from the dead on this day approximately 2,000 years ago. So, in celebration of this, I would like to talk about the fact of Jesus's resurrection, and I specifically want to talk about why Jesus rose from the dead. Now, this is something that I came up with just a few hours ago, the idea to do this live video, so I don't really have many notes. I just have a few scriptures I want to go through today and talk about them and see what the Bible says. I feel like oftentimes a lot of Christians talk about the fact that Jesus died on the cross, which, of course, is important. Okay, we could not be saved if Jesus did not die on the cross, if he did not shed his blood for our sins, but there's more to our salvation, there's more to the gospel than just the fact that he died on the cross. In 1 Corinthians chapter 15, when it defines what the gospel is by which we are saved, it does not just say that Jesus Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures, but it continues in verse 4, it says that he was buried and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures. Part of our, uh, of our salvation, of how we are saved, that the the message of the gospel is not just that Jesus died on the cross, but that it is also that he rose again from the dead. Okay, it says in Romans chapter 4 verse 25 of Jesus our Lord that he was delivered for our offenses and he was raised again for justification. So if he was not raised again, we could not be justified, meaning made right in the eyes of God. It was not enough that Jesus died and went to hell, but once he did that he also had to rise from the dead and there are many reasons why he had to rise from the dead and why these things needed to be fulfilled for us to be saved and to have justification to have our sins washed away. Okay, so I want to go through a few scriptures today. Um, if you, anybody's watching this, nobody's watching this right now, but if anybody watches this later you could follow along with me in the Bible here. So I want to turn first to Matthew chapter 20. Matthew chapter 20 is a scripture where Jesus promises that he will rise from the dead and there are multiple times where he talks about this in the gospels. Before he had died, he had promised to his disciples that he would die and he would rise again, that he spoke of the gospel beforehand before it actually took place. So Matthew chapter 20 and verse 17, it says in Jesus going up to Jerusalem took the 12 disciples apart in the way and said unto them behold we go up to Jerusalem and the son of man shall be betrayed unto the chief priests and unto the scribes and they shall condemn him to death and shall deliver him to the gentiles to mock and to scourge and to crucify him and the third day he shall rise again. So Jesus clearly stated that he would be delivered to the gentiles by the Jews, he would be crucified, but the third day he would rise again. He says something very similar in Matthew chapter 16 in verse 21, it says from that time forth began Jesus to show unto his disciples how that he must go unto Jerusalem and suffer many things of the elders and chief priests and scribes and be killed and be raised again the third day. The key word here is the word must that it must take place okay these things had to be fulfilled not just the fact that he died on the cross but he had to rise again it was a must. So the fact that Jesus promised it here but he also said concerning the the sign of the fact that he was the Christ and the son of God in Matthew chapter 12 and I will talk about another sign to prove that he was the Christ and the son of God later but the Pharisees who would question Jesus asked him on two different occasions and both times he answered that it would be the sign of his resurrection. For example in Matthew chapter 12 verse 38 here's one of the times it says then certain of the scribes and of the Pharisees answered saying master we would see a sign from thee but he answered and said unto them an evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign and there shall no sign be given to it but the sign of the prophet Jonas for as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale's belly so shall the son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth. So the Pharisees they're asking for a sign that Jesus is the son of God and that he is the Christ and his answer is that as Jonas was three days and three nights in the belly of a whale so shall the son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth. The emphasis there is three days and three nights okay so that he will be dead he will be in the heart of the earth but he will rise again so Jesus promises that this is the sign that he is who he says he is. Later in the book of John now this is like later in terms of where it is in the Bible but chronologically he said this before he said this long before he told the Pharisees that in Matthew chapter 12 this is the very beginning of his ministry in John chapter 2. John chapter 2 and verse 18. I'm going to back up actually to verse 16. The context here is that Jesus is driving out the money changers and it says and said unto them that soul doves take these things hence make not my father's house and house of merchandise. So here he goes into the temple of God and he says that this is his father's house so even though he does not directly say that he is the son of God there he is implying that he is by calling God his father and it says in his disciples remember that it was written the zeal of thine house hath eaten me up then answered the Jews and said unto him what sign showest thou unto us seeing that thou doest these things the Jews are asking what is your sign just as they did in Matthew chapter 12. Jesus answered and said unto them destroy this temple and in three days I will raise it up then said the Jews 40 and six years was this temple and building and wilt thou rear it up in three days but he spake of the temple of his body so Jesus is saying that the sign that he is the son of God that God is his father is that he will be raised up on the third day okay he's saying you will destroy this body okay the temple because it says he spake of the temple of his body will destroy this temple and I will raise it up in three days just like he said in Matthew 12 that his body would only be in the heart of the earth or I guess his soul you could say uh that he would only be dead for three days and three nights okay so when they are looking for a sign that he is the son of God that is who or that is the sign of the resurrection so why did Jesus rise from the dead a few reasons so far is that he promised it unto his disciples and also that that was the sign that he was the son of God and I'll go back to that a little bit later but another thing is that the scriptures the old testament scriptures promised that this would happen to the messiah and some of these scriptures are quoted in the new testament concerning the resurrection the most famous one that is quoted several times throughout the book of acts and other portions of the scripture is in psalm chapter 16 it says in psalm chapter 16 or psalm 16 and verse 10 for thou wilt not leave my soul in hell neither wilt thou suffer thine holy one to see corruption okay that is quoted in acts chapter 2 as fulfilled in the resurrection of Jesus Christ now of course is called a it says in uh under the psalm 16 heading that this is a miktah of David however David did not go to hell and David definitely was not God's holy one see the the old testament scriptures talk constantly talk about the holy one of Israel and that name is reserved for the Lord himself so it's saying that the Lord himself his soul will be in hell and his body would not see corruption okay that he would only be dead for three days and three nights his body would not deteriorate God would not let him his body to deteriorate but he would rise it from the dead after three days so there's that promise and then there's one that I don't actually hear often people talk about but it is in the scriptures in isaiah 53 which if you know isaiah 53 is a uh is a prophecy of Jesus's death burial and resurrection it doesn't just talk about the fact that he died and that he took his sins upon us which is much of what the chapter talks about but the whole prophecy in isaiah 52 and 53 does mention twice what will happen to this man to this servant of God who is nail on the cross and who has bore his iniquity our iniquities in himself so it says in isaiah 53 verse 9 and he made his grave with the wicked and with the rich in his death because he had done no violence neither was there any deceit in his mouth that was fulfilled in the fact that he had uh he was buried in the tomb of Joseph of Arimathea who had took him down from the cross and allowed him to borrow his tomb in verse 10 it says yet it pleased the Lord to bruise him he hath put him to grief when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin he shall see his seed he shall prolong his days and the pleasure of the Lord shall prosper in his hand he shall see of the travail of his soul and shall be satisfied by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many for he shall bear their iniquities so verses 10 and 11 are very important to understanding the resurrection because it says of this servant this one who has died in our place who has bore all of our iniquities in his body that once his soul was made an offering for our sin it says he shall prolong his days so he was dead but his day shall be prolonged that's talking about Jesus's resurrection it says also in verse 11 he shall see of the travail of his soul now oftentimes in the bible the word travail for example i think it talks about this in john 16 where it talks about a woman going through travail when giving birth uh but that is like hard labor that's uh going through a lot of pain and torture kind of thing that Jesus even though he had gone through this travail it says he shall be satisfied meaning God shall be satisfied he shall be propitiated since Jesus is called the propitiation for our sins and then his uh days shall be prolonged so that's talking also about the resurrection of Jesus then also in isaiah 52 it says of this same man it says behold my servant shall deal prudently he shall be exalted and extolled and be very high as many were astonished at thee his visage was so marred more than any man and his form more than the sons of men so shall he sprinkle many nations the king shall shut their mouths at him for that which had not been told them shall they see and that which they had not heard shall they consider so it speaks again of this whole chapter is a prophecy of Jesus Christ and how Jesus even though his visage meaning his appearance was so marred more than any man okay it's not like the the typical pictures that we see of Jesus on the cross like the the traditional paintings and everything like that where there's just like a few trickles of blood here and there his appearance was completely deformed and and just uh marred more than any other man it says even though that it says that he shall be exalted and extolled and be very high just as the scriptures speak of in the book of john it's mentioned several times about how after he rose from the dead he shall be glorified through that so that's another reason why Jesus rose from the dead that he had promised it and the old testament scriptures had promised that this would happen that he would be risen from the dead that his body would not see corruption and his soul would not be left in hell now concerning the actual resurrection of Jesus it says in luke chapter 24 and obviously it talks about in all the gospels but uh i'm going to read from luke chapter 24 and then i'm going to go over to uh john chapter actually no i just want to talk about this right now but so it says in luke 24 now upon the first day of the week very early in the morning they came unto the sepulcher bringing the spices which they had prepared and certain others with them and they found the stone rolled away from the sepulcher and they entered in and found not the body of the lord Jesus and it came to pass as they were much perplexed there about behold two men stood by them in shining garments and as they were afraid and bowed down their faces to the earth they said unto them why seek ye the living among the dead he is not here but is risen remember how he spake unto you when he was yet in galley saying the son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men and be crucified and the third day rise again and they remembered his words and returned from the sepulcher and told all these things until 11 and to all the rest it was Mary Magdalene and Joanna and Mary the mother of James and other women that were with them which told these things unto the apostles so the women come to the tomb they see that the tomb is empty that the the stone has been rolled back as it talks about in in Matthew and the book of Matthew that they had sealed it with a stone and they had set a watch over it that there were guards who were guarding the stone they come to the tomb the guards are all gone the stone is rolled back they go into the tomb it's empty and these two angels appear unto them and tell them of what had happened to Jesus that he had risen from the dead just as he had promised so that's of course why we are celebrating Easter today because of the fact that Jesus had risen from the dead so they come and they see that he has fulfilled his promise that was made both the old testament scriptures promises that he would not have his soul be left in hell and his body would not see corruption and that his days would be prolonged but also the promises uh throughout the scriptures of throughout the gospels where Jesus is telling his disciples that after three days he will rise again now therefore because he was raised it also was proof that he was the son of God remember the two examples in John 2 and Matthew 12 where he told the Pharisees that the sign that he is the son of God was the sign of the prophet Jonas or as he said in John 2 he said destroy this temple and in three days I'll raise it up okay that was his answer when they asked for a sign that he would be raised up from the dead so therefore it says in the book of Romans in chapter one it says concerning his son Jesus Christ our lord which was made of the seed of David according to the flesh and declared to be the son of God with power according to the spirit of holiness by the resurrection from the dead so he says very clearly that God's son Jesus Christ was declared to be the son of God with power by the resurrection from the dead now it's not saying that Jesus wasn't the son of God before then obviously he was he said back in John chapter 9 and in John chapter 10 he said I am the son of God so Jesus has always been the son of God however through the resurrection that was proof that he had uh that he was the son of God he constantly throughout the book of John he says to the Jews who are questioning him he says if you don't believe me believe the works that I do and he says uh the the father is working through me and all these different things uh talking about the different miracles and things like that that he did and there was no greater miracle and no greater uh work that Jesus did than rising from the dead okay because it wasn't like he was just rising other people from the dead but he rose himself from the dead with the help of the father and the spirit as the bible talks about in other places that all members of the trinity had raised up Jesus from the dead so therefore it says in Colossians chapter 1 of Jesus it calls him I'm not going to turn there but Colossians 1 18 it calls him the first begotten of the dead okay that he was the only one that was actually uh brought forth from the dead and was changed because when Lazarus and the uh the son of the widow of Nain and the daughter of Jairus and then the old testament the the son of the the uh the woman of Zareph Zarephathah or something whatever it's called and there's one other I believe that was raised in the old testament as well those people all eventually died but Jesus his resurrection was different in that he was the first begotten from the dead not only was he raised up but there was an actual change like we will be changed at the rapture uh and at the resurrection from our dead like it talks about in 1st Corinthians 15 that our bodies will be changed in a moment in the twinkling of an eye and I'll get to that in a moment but Jesus once he had risen from the dead he appeared unto his disciples it says that he showed by many infallible proofs for 40 days that he had risen in uh Acts chapter 1 he had proved to his disciples he had proved to many that he had risen from the dead it says in 1st Corinthians 15 that he had even appeared to over 500 brethren at once okay that he did not just appear to the 12 apostles and to these women who came to the tomb but he appeared to over 500 brethren at once and he says the greater part of them remain but some are falling asleep see although we don't have any of those people only those eyewitnesses today even back then there was nobody who could question the testimony of Christianity because of how many people had seen the risen Lord Jesus how many people had seen him and testify that they had seen him and in that day when Paul was writing he was showing that there were so many different people that had seen the risen Jesus and therefore if anybody had questions about and were questioning them they could go and they could ask all these different uh eyewitnesses so the disciples of Jesus Christ once they had seen Jesus and spent 40 days with him they had preached uh Peter had preached a sermon in Acts chapter 2 on the day of Pentecost and I want to read that because it tells us about another reason why Jesus rose from the dead in Acts chapter 2 so nobody's watching right now but if anybody joins later Acts chapter 2 it says in verse 22 this is Peter preaching he says he men of Israel hear these words Jesus of Nazareth a man approved of God among you by miracles and wonders and signs which God did by him in the midst of you as ye yourselves also know him being delivered by the determinate council and foreknowledge of God ye have taken and by wicked hands have crucified and slain whom God hath raised up having loosed the pains of death because it was not possible that he should be holden of it for David speaketh concerning him I foresaw the Lord always before my face for he is on my right hand that I should not be moved therefore did my heart rejoice and my tongue was glad moreover also my flesh shall rest in hope because thou will not leave my soul in hell neither wilt thou suffer thine holy one to see corruption thou has made known to me the ways of life thou shalt make me full of joy with thy countenance men and brethren let me freely speak unto you of the patriarch David that he is both dead and buried and his sepulcher is with us unto this day therefore being a prophet and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him that of the fruit of his loins according to the flesh he would raise up Christ to sin on his throne he seeing this before spake of the resurrection of Christ that his soul was not left in hell neither his flesh did see corruption this Jesus hath God raised up where we are all witnesses so there's actually two reasons that are listed here in acts chapter two that we can see why Jesus rose from the dead okay besides the fact that he had to fulfill the prophecy which I already talked about the prophecy of psalm chapter 16 now the first reason is that it says in verse 24 whom God hath raised up having loose the pains of death because it was not possible that he should be holding of it okay so what it's saying there is that it was not possible that Jesus would remain dead because Jesus is God I mean the fact that he died was already enough something that was you could call it a miracle because he had to lay down his life for us but the fact that he was was dead and had to fulfill the scripture and had to fulfill what he had promised means that he could not have remained dead for more than those three days because he says thou will not okay it's a promise uh suffer thy holy one to see corruption now the other reason uh that is talked about here in acts chapter two of why Jesus rose from the dead is in verse 30 where it says therefore being a prophet and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him that of the fruit of his loins according to the flesh he would raise up Christ to sit on his throne now this is very similar to uh in the book of Genesis where Abraham with his faith was able to go and about to sacrifice his son Isaac on the altar because he had the faith because he knew that God had promised that his through his son Isaac uh he would have descendants as many as the sand of the sea okay he knew that those promises would be fulfilled okay and therefore he wasn't afraid to go and to offer up Isaac on the altar because he had the faith that God would not let him die and of course we know that he did not let him die and it's the same thing with Christ that David knew as he was speaking by the Holy Ghost it was promised unto David that out of his loins would come forth the Christ the Messiah the one who would sit on his throne and would rule forever and we see that constantly and I don't want to turn all those scriptures I made a video on my YouTube channel a few weeks ago about uh about the fulfillment of the messianic prophecies about in like in Psalm chapter 89 for example where it talks about how out of the the loins of David would be a seed that would rule forever and then it also is in second Samuel 7 where he talks about one who would sit on his throne forever this was fulfilled in Jesus Christ in Luke chapter 1 when the angel came to Mary to announce the conception of Jesus the angel clearly stated that this son that she was about to give birth to the Lord Jesus Christ fulfilled the promise made unto David so it says in verse 31 and behold thou shalt conceive in thy womb and bring forth the son and shall call his name Jesus he shall be great and shall be called the son of the highest and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David and he shall reign over the house of Jacob forever and of his kingdom shall be no end so of course since Jesus was the Christ since he was the Messiah therefore even though he had to die in fulfillment of the old testament prophecy in Isaiah 53 in order to remove our sins he also had to raise again because he had to it was as his fulfillment of the fact that he was Christ sit on the throne of David forever now of course he could not do that if he remained in hell so therefore in order to actually fulfill his role as the Messiah which he is right now being the king of kings in heaven and when he comes back and sets up the kingdom of God and will reign over us forever okay in order to fulfill that he had to rise from the dead so so far we've seen that Jesus promised to his disciples that he would rise from the dead that the fact of his resurrection was the sign that he was the son of God it fulfills the old testament scriptures it was not possible that death could have hold in him and he had to fulfill the messianic prophecies in which he would sit on the throne of David forever and this could only be fulfilled if he rose from the dead okay so those are the things so far but another important thing is remember also that I mentioned at the beginning of this of this sermon in Romans chapter 4 verse 25 it says he was delivered for our offenses and was raised again for a justification that the resurrection of Jesus Christ was not just something that had to be fulfilled in any of these senses but also it had to be fulfilled in order for us to be saved because 1st Corinthians 15 talks about how it's not just the death of Christ but it's also his burial and resurrection by which we are saved so go to John chapter 20. John chapter 20 which is another passage about Jesus's resurrection nobody's watching right now in John chapter 20 see where do I want to start so I want to okay I'll start at verse 11 so again the context of John chapter 20 this is Mary Magdalene is alone at the tomb okay the the apostle John and Peter had come to the tomb but now they've left and now Mary is there it says in verse 11 but Mary stood without at the sepulcher weeping and as she wept she stooped down and looked to the sepulcher and seeth two angels in white sitting the one at the head and the other at the feet where the body of Jesus had lain and they say unto her woman why weepest thou she saith unto them because they have taken away my lord and I know not where they have laid him and when she thus had said she turned herself back and saw Jesus standing and knew not that it was Jesus Jesus saith unto her woman why weepest thou whom seekest thou she's supposing him to be the gardener saith unto him sir if thou have born him hence tell me where thou hast laid him and I will take him away Jesus saith unto her Mary she turned herself and saith unto him Rabboni which is to say master Jesus saith unto her touch me not for I am not yet ascended to my father but go to my brethren and say unto them I ascend unto my father and your father and to my God and your God now why is this important that what Jesus says unto Mary is important when you compare with the other scriptures okay for example I guess I could see right here in John chapter 20 where it says later in verse 27 this is about a week later it says that this is or actually eight days later it says in verse 26 but Jesus appears to them again and it says then saith he to Thomas reach hither thy finger and behold my hands and reach hither thy hand and thrust it into my side and be not faithless but believing then in the book of luke uh this is later the same day okay so this is easter sunday this is the day that Jesus rose from the dead when this happens in luke chapter 24 it says and as they thus spake this is verse 36 luke 24 verse 36 and as they thus spake Jesus himself stood in the midst of them and saith unto them peace be unto you but they were terrified and affrighted and suppose that they had seen a spirit and he said unto them why are you troubled and why do thoughts arise in your hearts behold my hands and my feet that it is I myself handle me and see for a spirit hath not flesh and bones as you see me have okay so in the morning when Jesus had first risen from the dead and he appeared to Mary he said touch me not for meaning because I am not yet ascended to my father now when he talks about ascendant to his father he is not referring to his final ascension in which he ascends up in acts chapter one and sits down on the right hand of God and there he ever liveth to make intercession for us but there was a first temporary ascension in which Jesus went to heaven okay now how do we know that because later in the same day he appeared to the disciples and he says handle me so before he says touch me not for because I have not yet ascended to my father later he says handle me to see that it is I myself and I'm not a spirit because the spirit I have not flesh and bones as you see me have so what did Jesus do when he rose from the dead and ascended up to his father on this first day okay what was the purpose of that what happened well it explains in Hebrews chapter 9 and this is relating to our salvation that if this did not happen we could not be saved and this is the reason one of the reasons why the resurrection is important for our salvation that it wasn't just the crucifixion okay one important thing to point out is the bible says something along the lines of I don't have the scripture memorized so I'm going to pull it up here um it teaches in the book of Hebrews that Jesus uh and everything that Jesus did with his death baron resurrection was in fulfillment of the pictures in the old testament with the sacrifices and all the the the uh services and the in the temple and in the tabernacle and all that that those things were pictures of Christ it says in Hebrews chapter 10 for the law having a shadow of good things to come and not the very image of things can never with those sacrifices which they offered year by year continually make the comers there unto perfect okay so he says that the law and all the the ordinances of the law including the sacrifices were just shadow pictures of good things to come that's what they were they were promises of the future promises of things that would be fulfilled in the new testament through Jesus Christ so everything that Jesus did with dying on the cross and rising again and ascending into heaven was in fulfillment of the pictures that we see with the uh with the sacrifices and all that in the and the law of Moses okay so the scriptures say in Leviticus 17 verse 11 it says in Leviticus 17 verse 11 for the life of the flesh is in the blood and I have given to given it to you upon the altar to make an atonement for your souls for it is the blood that maketh atonement for the soul we know of course that the scriptures say we have redemption through his blood even the forgiveness of sins and some people think that it was enough that Jesus just died on the cross and shed his blood but there is more to it than that okay it says it is blood that maketh an atonement for your soul okay and of course we know that we are atoned through Jesus Christ it says in Romans chapter 5 by him have we received the atonement meaning we have been reconciled uh unto God however as in the old testament pictures the blood had to be in the right place when they sacrificed animals they didn't just slit the throat of the animal and just let the blood spill on the ground okay they had to collect the blood had to slave the lamb on the altar they had to collect the blood and then on the day of atonement enter into the tabernacle enter into the holy place and take the blood and put it on the mercy seat in the holiest of all okay these things had to take place in order to make proper atonement on the day of atonement if they just killed the animal but didn't put the blood in the right place that wouldn't have done anything okay the fact that Jesus was the lamb of God that died for our sins yes he had to shed his blood but then his blood had to be moved to the right place and this is what Jesus did when he ascended to his father on that first day it says in Hebrews chapter 9 but Christ being come in high priest of good things to come by a greater and more perfect tabernacle not made with hands that is to say not of this building neither by the blood of goats and calves but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place having obtained eternal redemption for us for if the blood of bulls and of goats and the ashes of an hyper sprinkling the unclean sanctify it to the purifying of the flesh how much more shall the blood of Christ who through the eternal spirit offered himself without spirit to God purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God therefore we know that Jesus Christ with his own blood entered into the holy place okay not the holy place down on this earth but one that is in heaven it says a more perfect tabernacle not made with hands that is to say not of this building one that is heavenly and not earthly so Jesus Christ when he ascended up to his father he had his own blood he entered into the holy place and he with that blood made an atonement for our souls so Jesus did not just have to die to shed his blood and to take our sins upon himself and put them down into hell but he also had to rise again to take his blood then and to place it in the holiest of all in the holy place in heaven in atonement for our souls so those things had to be done in order for Jesus to fulfill the old testament uh pictures in the law and to make proper atonement for us okay otherwise his blood would have been shed for no reason okay his blood was shed but yes he had to do more than that as explained in the book of Hebrews and there's more in the book of Hebrews but I don't want to go through all of that because it talks about it really from chapter uh chapter seven I believe all the way to chapter 10 and there's other scripture there's other portions of the book of Hebrews that talk about it as well that's the focus of the book of Hebrews of how Christ fulfilled the law and how he was the high priest and his sacrifices and all that so it says it teaches in 1 Corinthians chapter 15 that if Jesus did not rise from the dead we would not be saved okay the resurrection was the completion of the gospel okay he yes he died on the cross for our sins but then he rose again from the dead so it says in 1 Corinthians 15 and verse 13 but if there be no resurrection of the dead then is Christ not risen and if Christ be not risen then is our preaching vain and your faith is also vain yea and we are found false witnesses of God because we have testified of God that he raised up Christ whom he raised not up if so be that the dead rise not for if the dead rise not then is not Christ raised and if Christ be not raised your faith is vain year yet in your sins then they also which are fallen asleep in Christ are perished if in this life only we have hope in Christ we are of all men most miserable but now is Christ risen from the dead and become the first fruits of them that slept for since by man came death by man came also the resurrection of the dead for as an Adam all die even so in Christ shall all be made alive so the scriptures teach that if Christ was not risen from the dead our faith is vain meaning worthless it doesn't mean anything there would be no purpose of even being a Christian there would be no purpose of even going to church of even preaching the gospel there'd be no purpose to any of this if the dead rise not okay but we know through the resurrection of Jesus Christ that the dead rise that's another important reason why Jesus rose from the dead it gives us the hope that people will rise from the dead okay that Christ was the first fruits of them that slept meaning he was the first one as it says in Colossians 1 18 which I mentioned earlier he was the first begotten of the dead however it gives us the hope as it mentions the hope in Christ that there will be a resurrection of the dead in the future okay that is another point of the gospel but if Christ did not die and then rise again it says we would be yet in our sins and of course we know the reason why is because once he rose up to heaven he offered his blood in heaven he didn't just shed his blood and just leave it at that he entered into the holy place in heaven so through Jesus Christ and his resurrection if we are in Christ the Bible teaches that we are made partakers of his resurrection it says in Romans chapter 6 in verse 5 for if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection knowing this that our old man is crucified with him that the body of sin might be destroyed that henceforth we should not serve sin for he that is dead is free from sin now if we be dead with Christ we believe that we also shall live with him knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more death hath no more dominion over him for in that he died he died unto sin once but in that he liveth he liveth unto God likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord so another thing about the resurrection is that it gives us the hope of eternal life okay that because we are dead with Christ when we trust in Jesus Christ when we get saved and we are in Christ the Bible teaches that we are made partakers of his death but also of his resurrection okay it says again in Romans chapter 6 verse 8 now if we be dead with Christ we believe that we also shall live with him it says knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more death hath no more dominion over him for in that he died he died unto sin once but in that he liveth he liveth unto God so this teaches us also the fact that through Jesus Christ we can have eternal life just as Christ the Bible says he dieth no more death hath no more dominion over him the Bible teaches since we are in the likeness of his resurrection since we also shall live with him the scriptures say in Colossians 2 13 that we are quickened together with Christ okay the fact that Jesus Christ rose from the dead is the promise that we have eternal life that's another reason why Jesus rose from the dead to give us that hope of eternal life that just as he will die no more we shall die no more as Jesus says in John 11 25 to 26 I am the resurrection and the life he that believeth in me though he were dead yet shall he live and whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die so through Jesus's resurrection we are given the hope of eternal life and also the future resurrection there was one last scripture I want to turn to in the book of Revelation revelation chapter one it says and when I saw him speaking about Jesus this is John he sees Jesus and he says I fell at his feet is dead and he set and he laid his right hand upon me saying unto me fear not I am the first and the last I am he that liveth and was dead and behold I am alive forevermore just like it says in Romans 6 amen and have the keys of hell and of death see Jesus because he had risen from the dead now has the keys of hell and of death meaning he has power over that okay that through him we can have eternal life not just because of the fact that he died on the cross but that he rose again from the dead so all of these things are important to know so sometimes I feel like people don't put much of an emphasis on the resurrection of Jesus but rather put all the emphasis on the crucifixion now there's nothing wrong with talking about the crucifixion that is all of these things are important all of it is the gospel okay but some people kind of just ignore the resurrection and they just kind of well yeah Jesus rose from the dead but we have to understand that there was a reason why he did those things in fact there are multiple reasons so again just going through and just doing a quick recap to uh finish off here before I iced I stopped this video the reason why Jesus rose from the dead was to fulfill his promise that he had promised his disciples that after three days he would be risen from the dead to fulfill the prophecy of the old testament prophets that they had predicted that Jesus would uh predict of course by the the holy ghost it was the word of God that Jesus uh his his body would not be uh would not see corruption that his soul would not be left in hell and that his days would be prolonged after his soul would be made an offering for sin and he shall satisfy God okay the satisfaction has already been completed he has propitiated God through his death and his descent into hell so to fulfill that then through the resurrection of the dead to be declared as the son of God according to Romans 1 and to fulfill his uh the signs that he had promised unto the Pharisees that he was who he said he was that he was the son of God the fact that death could not be hold enough him or that he could or I'm sorry that he could not be holding of death that death could not keep him in hell the fact that he as the messiah would sit on the throne of David forever and therefore had to rise from the dead in order to fulfill this as well the fact that Jesus had to ascend into heaven to uh go into the holy place with his own blood uh to give us the hope of the resurrection that and also that we might have eternal life through him so all of these things are why Jesus rose from the dead and it's a very important thing in scripture it is the foundation of our faith as it says in 1st Corinthians 15 if Christ be not risen then our preaching is in vain and it says our faith is in vain there's no reason to believe Christianity at all there's no reason to uh preach the gospel or to preach really anything if Jesus did not truly rise from the dead and yet we know that Jesus did rise from the dead and that is our hope of eternal life okay so that's it for today thank you buddy for watching although not really many people watch but anybody who watches later thank you for watching god bless you and goodbye
