(Disclaimer: This transcript is auto-generated and may contain mistakes.) Hello everybody, it's me, Mr. tall23, back to our video. This is another video on the basic doctrines of the Bible. In this video I want to talk about the subject of the Lord's Supper. So we believe in the ordinance of the Lord's Supper and that is that the Lord Jesus instituted on the night of his betrayal in remembrance of himself and remembrance of Christ that we should take the bread and the wine which represent the body and blood of Jesus Christ. All three Gospels record the institution of this ordinance. It says in the book of Matthew chapter 26 verse 26 to 29 And as they were eating Jesus took bread and blessed it and break it and gave it to the disciples and said take eat This is my body And he took the cup and gave thanks and gave it to them saying drink ye all of it For this is my blood of the New Testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins But I say unto you I will not drink henceforth of this fruit of the vine until that day When I drink it new with you in my Father's kingdom First Jesus blesses and breaks unleavened bread and passes it amongst the disciples declaring it to be his body Then he takes the cup of wine and declares it to be the blood of the New Testament Which is shed for the remission of sins These two things were offered upon the cross for our sins as we've seen in previous videos It's through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ and his own precious blood by which we are saved Some have misunderstood the statements of Jesus by claiming that upon blessing the bread and wine it somehow magically transforms into the actual flesh and blood of Jesus Christ But as Jesus plainly declares in verse 29 the cup which he holds in his hand Which he has blessed and declared to be his blood is still the fruit of the vine So therefore there is no change in substance to the fruit juice to the non-alcoholic wine Which is within the cup but simply it is a metaphor just as Jesus said in John chapter 10 I am the door that's also a metaphor He's not declaring himself to be a literal door the wine and the bread simply represent the body and the blood of Christ Now in the book of Luke account of the same event It says in Luke 22 verse 17 to 20 and he took the cup and gave thanks It said take this and divide it among yourselves for I say unto you I will not drink of the fruit of the vine until the kingdom of God shall come And he took bread and gave thanks and break it and gave unto them saying this is my body Which is given for you this do in remembrance of me Likewise also the cup after supper saying this cup is the New Testament in my blood which is shed for you Notice that in this passage there is the additional detail concerning the breaking of the bread where Jesus says This is my body which is given for you And then he again says my blood which is shed for you Now the reason why the bread is broken and passed around is because in Representing the body of Christ it shows unto us that Jesus's body was broken at the cross for our sins an Old Testament Prophecy in Isaiah chapter 52 tells us of Christ that his visage or his appearance was so marred more than any other man Therefore this is the point in which Jesus instituted the Lord's Supper But there's additional explanation of the ordinance later in the Bible as well It says in 1st Corinthians chapter 10 verse 16 to 17 the cup of blessing which we bless Is it not the communion of the blood of Christ the bread which we break? Is it not the communion of the body of Christ? For we being many are one bread and one body for we all are partakers of that one bread Now the Lord's Supper is also referred to therefore as communion because as stated we as a congregation when we take the Lord's Supper are all partakers of the bread and the blood and This next chapter it's written in 1st Corinthians chapter 11 verse 23 to 29 For I've received of the Lord which I also delivered unto you that the Lord Jesus the same night at which he was Betrayed took bread and when he had given thanks, he break it and said take eat This is my body which is broken for you this do in remembrance of me after the same manner Also, he took the cup when he had supped saying this cup is the New Testament in my blood This do ye as oft as you drink it in remembrance of me For as often as he eat this bread and drink this cup you do show the Lord's death till he come Wherefore whoso shall eat this bread and drink this cup of the Lord unworthily He'll be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord but let a man examine himself and so let him eat of that bread and drink of that cup for he that eateth and Drinketh unworthily eateth and drinketh damnation to himself not discerning the Lord's body Here guidelines are given for the Lord's Supper We already know what it represents the body and the blood of Jesus Christ that we are made partakers of such through our salvation But since we are saved by the offering of the body and the blood of the Lord Jesus We need to be saved in order to participate in the Lord's Supper as stated in verse 27 Whosoever shall eat this bread and drink this cup of the Lord unworthily I'll be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord then in verse 29 It says that if we drink unworthily we drink damnation unto ourselves If we have not been washed in the blood of Jesus We are not worthy to drink of the cup those which do so bring upon themselves judgment from God Therefore the Lord's Supper is a very important ordinance whenever or as often we come together to do so We bless and we break the bread and bless and drink of the cup which shows the Lord death until he comes until he returns So thank you buddy for watching that is it for this video and goodbye
