redeem redeem redeem redeem redeem redeem redeem redeem redeem redeem redeem redeem redeem redeem redeem redeem redeem redeem redeem redeem redeem redeem redeem redeem redeem redeem redeem redeem redeem redeem redeem redeem So look what it says in verse 26. It says I suppose therefore that this is good for the present distress I say that it is good for a man so to be. Art thou bound to a wife? Seek not to be loosed. Art thou loosed from a wife? Seek not a wife. See and there's people that basically they're in this situation where he's saying hey if you've already, if someone already divorced divorced you or you're loosed from because people get divorced like there's nothing you can do to stop it in some situations people just get divorced and hey what he's saying is hey if you can be if you can be faithful like I am then that's going to be the best thing for you. Don't seek to be married again. So it says but and if thou marry thou hast not sinned and if a virgin marry she shall not sin. Nevertheless such shall have trouble in the flesh but I spare you. So he's basically saying you know if a virgin they say I want to be a virgin but then they're like you know what I want to experience marriage and they decide to get married then it's not wrong. Now obviously if you vow to vow to the Lord to stay a virgin or something that's a little that's different but like if you're just like one of those people are just like I'm just never going to get married you know I'm just going to serve the Lord you know but then like later on you get you know this itch like I want to know what it's like to be married or whatever. He's just saying it's not a sin to do that. Look at verse 29 it says but this I say brother the time is short it remaineth that both they that have wives be as though they had none and they that weep as though they wept not and they that rejoice as though they rejoice not and they that buy as though they possess not. What's Paul trying to say well you know the time is short as Christians we our time is like a vapor you know and so we don't have a lot of time so even if you are married hey you know we need to we need to get busy regardless of whether we're married or not and you know they that possess as though they possess not hey you got a lot of possessions it takes a lot of time to take care of possessions doesn't it? Maintenance and all these different things if you have a lot of possessions you know maybe you should just pretend like you don't have those possessions and just get busy. The time is short and people just get they lose track of the fact that time is short on this earth and we need to get busy regardless of what calling your life is in regardless of where you're at right now hey act like the time is short and get busy doing the things for the Lord because the time goes fast 20 years me and my wife married whew where'd that go? you know it went fast you know and now I'm uglier and older and she's still with me I can't believe it but you know but it's been great we had a great time yesterday we just we really had a good time it was really nice it was one to remember so but that time is short your life here is short so look at verse 31 it says and they that use this world as not abusing it for the fashion of this world passeth away look don't get worldly it's gonna pass away it's gonna you're gonna get to if you just think it's so cool to be worldly the world is gonna pass away it's gonna burn up all this possessions that you ever have owned all the pictures that you've ever owned all the collectible dolls that you have all the canning jars I'm trying to get on the women here I always bring up men's stuff so the thimble the tea the tea animals that you get out of the rose tea all that stuff it's all gonna burn up everything that we have all of our achievements any trophies that you have you know I was the best ping pong player and we got the trophy we got the trophy for football but guess what that trophy is gonna burn up it'll be symboled in heaven no I'm just kidding there will be a diamond in heaven for our football no there won't be it's all gonna burn up it doesn't mean anything the fashion of this world passeth away so like I said regardless of where you're at what's going on in your life just remember the time is short and act accordingly look at verse 32 but I would have you without carefulness he that is unmarried careth for the things that belongeth to the Lord how he may please the Lord so a Christian man that's unmarried he he can put all his focus that's what Paul is saying you can put all your focus how you can please the Lord right and you can do a lot of thanks for the Lord if you don't have any mouse to feed you don't have to do all this other stuff you don't have to please your wife cause look what it says in verse 33 but he that is married careth for the things that are of the world how he may please his wife you still have to if you're married you gotta take care of your wife you gotta please your wife you gotta take care of your children and things like that and so those things cut your time away from the Lord now look I'm not saying don't get married I'm not in here I'm not trying to preach you know we should nobody should get married this is talking about to people that can do this okay and again this is a very rare bird that can do this right verse 34 there is difference also between a wife and a virgin the unmarried woman careth for the things of the Lord so it's the same thing a woman can work hard for the Lord and if you if you just wanna remain unmarried you can do a lot of great things for God says that she may be holy both in body and in spirit but she that is married cares for the things of the world how she may please her husband and rightly so you get married you get committed and those are the things that you're supposed to do you have to care for the things of the world because the things of the world are going to please the husband or wife or and take care of your children so verse 38 and this I speak for your own profit not that I may cast a snare upon you but for that which is comely and that you may attend upon the Lord what does it say? without distraction because wives can be distracting you know husbands can be distracting honey make me something to eat I'm trying to read my Bible you know I'm trying to read my Bible right now it's just you know that's what I'm saying is that like you can't fully focus everything on the Lord because you have somebody else that you're supposed to be pleasing also and you can't just marry someone and just it's like okay well I'm gonna serve the Lord you know have fun you just work it out okay that's not gonna be a very good marriage it's gonna be ending in divorce very soon so verse 36 so apparently you know this virgin or whatever you know people can have this like this commitment that they're gonna be a virgin but like you know when it says that they're not sending by marrying that's what the Bible is teaching like you know it's not wrong for someone that has lived their life and said hey I'm gonna be a virgin it's not wrong to just say hey I'm gonna get married as long as like you didn't vow that vow to the Lord because if you vow a vow to the Lord you need to keep the vow that you say that you're gonna do that's why we shouldn't vow things and say stupid things out of our mouths that God if you get me out of this situation I promise I'm gonna serve you with my whole life and then like you don't do that God's gonna hold you accountable for that alright so look at verse 37 nevertheless he that standeth steadfast in his heart having no necessity but hath power over his own will and has so decreed in his heart that he'll keep his virgin doeth well so you know if you are a man and you're a virgin or you have this virgin that you're like dedicated to or whatever see this is the part that I'm just like I'm not really sure you know I'm not gonna sit here and pretend like I understand this situation because it's just not a norm in our society but it's talking about this this man and it seems like it's a virgin and somebody that they're bound to each other in some way shape or form but that they're not married so I guess I really just don't understand that but I'm just being honest with you so verse 38 says so then he that giveth her in marriage doeth well but he that giveth her not in marriage doeth better the wife is bound by the law as long as her husband liveth but if her husband be dead she is at liberty to be married to whom she will only in the Lord so basically you know the Bible is saying that you know and obviously the context here is talking about virgins okay so again our society is not a virgin society is it you know the United States is not known for the virgins that it produces right so it's actually a pretty wicked country and it's filled with fornication and so fornication is the norm that we grow up in in our society it's not these virgins that are committed to each other and then deciding to get married later on the road so again not a norm in our society but it is something that the apostle Paul he's basically I mean if you want to get something out of this it's the people that can contain themselves in this way and that have committed themselves to serving the Lord you know what it's saying is that it's you know if they get to the to the end of their life or they get to their midlife crisis and they say you know what I want to get married it's not wrong so that's kind of what I get out of it but down in verse 39 where it says the wife is bound by the law as long as her husband liveth so if someone gets divorced then that woman is bound to that person as long as they live that's what the Bible says right but if her husband is dead be dead she is at liberty to be married to whom she will only in the Lord so there's a lot of situations like this in society now there's people that have gotten married and divorced and maybe the other person is just like still alive you know the Bible is very clear you're not supposed to get remarried but once that person dies then that person is free to marry whoever they want okay um so you know and there's a lot of unfortunate I talked about this before but there's a lot of unfortunate situations where people marry these people they turn out to be reprobates or whatever you know and the only thing I can say if you want to hurry up and get remarried again you know pray for that reprobate to die and go to hell I mean I know that sounds mean but they're not doing society if they're a true reprobate that's what I'm talking about like if someone marries some homo you know and they didn't know if they were a homo because you know homos like to hide and play in sight they like to pretend they're psychopaths they like to pretend that they're this family man or whatever and then they find out later that he's a closet queer or whatever so you know I would say in that situation you know it's fine to pray for that person to die and go to hell because they're not again if they're a reprobate they're not doing anything good for society and so you know but you're still bound to that reprobate as long as you live unfortunately so like Manly Perry I know is giving advice marriage advice and saying it's okay to divorce a reprobate chapter and verse on that it's not in the bible so you're just you know it sounds good but I actually had a church member of mine call me and say well pastor my husband is a reprobate and I heard pastor Perry's sermon about how it's okay for you to divorce a reprobate and I was like well you know and this was before it was Manly Perry exposed but I just said I don't agree with him I mean I feel bad for you that that's the case but that's not what the bible says so I preached about this last week it's just you know this is divorce and marriage are the hardest things that I deal with as a pastor and all these weird situations that happen because divorce can just be done by either side you know in the bible it doesn't teach that women even can divorce their husbands like I mean maybe I'm wrong but I'm pretty sure that the bible teaches that men are the ones that divorce their wives and that's not the other way around men who are not supposed to multiply wives do it anyway but you never see women you know multiplying husbands right? so there is like it is different you know the I mean show me a verse where it says a woman had multiple husbands it just doesn't happen but you see a man having multiple wives there is some different rules for men and women in the bible but so now we live in a day and age where women can just divorce men for whatever reason right? no cause no fault divorces I just thought he was ugly when I woke up the next day and I just decided to divorce him I mean you can literally divorce people for those reasons that's really stupid and so like basically the judges of America become like the Pharisees can we divorce for any reason? yep as a matter of fact women can divorce the men but like you don't see that happening in the bible but now we see it and so you know we got to fight against this kind of culture and it's Manly Perry just saying you know all it's not just Manly Perry it's just all kinds of pastors teach us crap that you can just divorce for whatever reason they feel like is necessary in their own eyes and I'll tell you what there's a lot of pastors who are going to get smoked on judgment day for teaching this garbage I'm talking about pastors who are not saved by the way but you know there's probably pastors in this life that are saved that are teaching this crap and God's probably judging them for it and it is a wicked thing God hates divorce you know he hates the putting away the bible is very clear about that what God has put together let no man part asunder right so we're not supposed to divorce now if you if one of the spouses dies then it's okay you're free to go and get remarried but only in the Lord see a lot of people just get remarried and they'll just make the same stupid mistake that they made before it's like well he's a Catholic so I think he's Christian no they're not Christians you know these different you know you want to marry someone that matches up with what you believe so and even then it can be difficult because sometimes people just you know they love each other at the beginning but like I said you know you start leaving the toilet toilet seat up or whatever throwing your dirty undies on the floor like I told you to clean them under put those underwear is it really that hard to put it in the basket people fight about the dumbest things and get divorced over the stupidest things but you know if people just read this book they would have a lot better marriages pastor what should I do read Ephesians 5 pastor what should I do read 1 Corinthians chapter 7 pastor what's your advice on this read the Bible that's what I want to say because it seems like any other advice I give just gets ignored anyway so I might as well just point them to the Bible I like pastor Anderson's counseling you know I used to think well you know maybe we should just try it's like I mean obviously I still want to help people with counseling but I'm just saying to do this and say hey you know the verses are in the Bible about marriage why don't you just read those let not man part asunder hey in the beginning they made them male and female so what God has put together don't put asunder that means either side you know and women should just not take advantage of these loopholes that they have in society where you can just get divorced for whatever reason you know and don't listen to your family that are unsaved on marriage advice you know who you shouldn't listen to on a marriage advice the world you know what was that lady's name that married all those people and she was a movie star Elizabeth Taylor don't take advice for people like Elizabeth Taylor don't take advice from people that have been divorced remarried on how to I mean obviously people that have been divorced remarried can still have a good marriage but I'm just saying that you probably shouldn't take your advice from them you should probably go to someone that's maybe been married for 20 years or 30 years or 50 years or how long have your parents been married brother Sean a lot of years yeah so you know go to people that have made it stick and stayed and made it pay don't go to someone that's just like not even married I mean that'd be dumb right hey what do you think I should do but people will try to give their advice won't they and your twice divorced parents sure want to give you advice don't they and people that have just failed miserably in life or they're just not even saved but we got to stop getting our advice from worldly people in the world stop looking at stupid sitcoms and things where you know we just should be the opposite of all that how we rear our children how we treat our wives how we just interact with everything that we do the bible says be holy for I am holy so we're supposed to take and separate ourselves from that we're supposed to be in the world but not of the world so that's what God expects from us and the better we learn that the better off our marriages are going to be the better off our families are going to be the better off our children are going to be raised you know we got to take everything that we get from this book and stop going to the world stop going to unsaved people stop going to your friends that you've known for 30 years I don't care if you've known them for 30 years good I'm glad you went to high school with them and you've been friends for that long but you should never ever get your advice from someone that's unsaved or someone that's been divorced or someone that's never been married when it comes to marriage topics if someone's failed miserably with their children don't go to them for child rearing advice you know you don't want to go to people that have failed you don't want to go what's that guy's name that's the coach for the Kansas City Chiefs what's his name I know you know you worldly man huh Andy Reid yeah I'm sorry I'm just kidding Andy Reid his kids I think were like gangsters basically so he's leading the Eagles at this time and his kids are just like total thugs I think they might even be dead or a couple of them or one of them I don't know but like yeah he's a great coach he's a great football coach but you know what he is he's a terrible father Michael Jordan terrible person great basketball player terrible person you know he probably got his dad killed from some gambling debt or whatever but yeah he's super prideful and super worldly but people just emulate Michael Jordan don't they the world emulates the world but we as Christians should not emulate what the world has to offer and so when it comes to marriage and child rearing and just living Christian living you know the world can show great things and work ethic and you know they can be the children of this world can be wiser sometimes than Christians you know we'll blow ourselves up on stuff when we shouldn't and we can learn things from the world but I'm not saying you should take your advice from them if you see someone that has a great work ethic and they're not saved there's nothing wrong with emulating their great work ethic just don't emulate their the way they talk the way they smoke the way they chew and run with girls who do or whatever you know we got to take everything we got from the Bible you know it's so important it's so important you know when you see families that are failing even churches you know we should get our we should get our we should emulate our church more after a good church is thriving and not some church that is failing you know and they got like three people in their church or something it's like how do you do it man how do you do it it's like that's not the person you should go to you know to try to help you with church thing you know anyway so like the Bible says look at verse 40 it says but she is happier so if if she so abide after my judgment and I think also that I have the spirit of God so basically ultimately Paul is saying here you know if someone abides and doesn't get remarried after they get divorced or all these different scenarios that first Corinthians chapter 7 has laid out for us it's gonna you're gonna be happier if you go after what Paul's judgment is to just serve the Lord with everything you have and don't try to entank you know if you're already divorced don't try to get remarried because you know what do you want to do you want to serve God as a person that's saved and not you know you've already screwed it up you know go to plan B plan B for your God's plan B for your life and his plan B is not to get remarried that's sin so we should go after what you know and I think Paul's judgment is right here and he says you know what he says at the end he says I think also that I have the spirit of God so do you think Paul had good judgment Paul was a great man so he probably is right you know and it's not saying that it's God's commandment that he teaches this part but he's probably right you know and how do we know that he's probably right cause nobody did more than he did for God in the New Testament period so anyway that's first Corinthians chapter 7 let's pray Heavenly Father we thank you Lord so much for this great book and pray that you just Lord take us home safely we thank you for all the blessings that you do for us and the answered prayer Lord and let's pray that you'd help us to Lord just think about things the way you want us to think about them and Lord that we would be your freemen Lord and not servants to sin not servants to the world Lord you've called us out of that you've freed us from that you've redeemed us from that I pray you'd help us to see that our time is short on this earth and that Lord we would seek regardless of what our calling is where we're at that we would abide in the calling that we were called and Lord pray these things in Jesus name Amen God leads us along Singing out with me on the first In shady green pastures so rich and so sweet God leads his dear children along Where the waters cold flow bays the weary ones feeb God leads his dear children along some through the water some through the flood some through the fire but all through the blood some through great sorrow but God gives a song in the night season and all the day long sometimes on the mouth where the sun shines so bright God leads his dear children along sometimes in the valley and darkest of night God leads his dear children along some through the waters some through the flood some through the fire but all through the blood some through great sorrow but God gives a song in the night season and all the day long though sorrows befall us and Satan oppose God leads his dear children along through grace we can conquer defeat all our foes God leads his dear children along some through the waters some through the flood some through the fire but all through the blood some through great sorrow but God gives a song in the night season and all the day long away from the mire and away from the clay God leads his dear children along away up in glory eternity stays God leads his dear children along some through the waters some through the flood some through the fire but all through the blood some through great sorrow but God gives a song in the night season and all the day long Thanks for coming out this evening. I'd like to see you back here Sunday morning at 1030. Brother Sean Collin, can you end us with a word of prayer?
