button-up shirt and tie though all right so i'm not i'm not getting slack even on the end of the year all right so if you want to preach and you got a button-up shirt and tie then and a king james bible in your hand all right then we'll let you get up here and uh unless you preach just heresy you probably won't get any public feedback okay and then um we'll do that for about an hour and then we're gonna have pizza right around eight so we'll have pizza for dinner and then we'll just have a time of a fellowship so a lot of people bring board games we'll probably not even have it set up like this we'll probably just have tables and chairs everywhere so people can kind of sit like a family style dinner style or whatever um but we'll just hang out and you're welcome to stay all the way to midnight but if you don't want to i totally understand you can you know just show up have some dinner hang out for a little bit and then take your kids home whenever you know is necessary but if you'd like to participate we'll be hanging out till about midnight and then you have to go home all right so you are able to stay till then 1201 though i'm just kidding so basically it's just to end off the year give you something fun to do and then also down below we have the best announcement congratulations to the cooper family on the birth of melody ray cooper uh she was born december 24th 2021 at 6 22 p.m she weighed 7 pounds 15 ounces and measured 21 inches long so she was a special christmas present and i know they were they were waiting for her all year they're waiting for a long read the entire chapter starting in verse 1 deuteronomy chapter 12 the bible reads in deuteronomy chapter 12 these are the statutes and judgments which he shall observe to do in the land which the lord god of thy fathers giveth thee to possess it all the days that you live upon the earth he shall utterly destroy all the places wherein the nations which he shall possess serve their gods upon the high mountains and upon the hills and under every green tree and he shall overthrow their altars and give them to the earth and he shall serve their gods and he shall overthrow their altars and break their pillars and burn their groves with fire and he shall hew down the graven images of their gods and destroy the names of them out of that place you shall not do so unto the lord your god but under the boldness lord to preach a sermon for us give him clarity of mind as well and give us ears to hear so that we can pay close attention and apply this message to our lives and i pray this prayer in the name of jesus christ amen amen uh one other quick announcement for the new year's eve party you can bring a snack or dessert if you'd like to share but you don't have to just so people if they ask about that let's get in our sermon here let's look back at verse 28 the bible reads observe and hear all these words which i command thee that it may go well with thee and with thy children after thee forever when thou doest that which is good and right in the sight of the lord thy god now this is a thought that the lord constantly brings up is the fact that his blessing is going to be tied to observing god's commandments correctly doing things the right way the good way and when you study the bible especially the old testament about how to serve god or how to worship god there is a right way to worship god in a wrong way to worship god and one would ask well what's the right way the right way is his way okay and so the title of my sermon this morning is this worship god his way worship god his way now in this passage i think we have three points i want to draw out this morning of things that we need to do when we're going to worship god if we're going to do it correctly but the only way to worship god is to worship his name okay if you want to do it his way then you got to worship his name specifically look back at verse one these are the statutes and judgments which he shall observe to do and the land which the lord thy god which the lord god of thy father has given thee to possess it all the days that you live upon the earth you shall utterly destroy all the places where in the nations which he shall possess serve their gods on the high mountains and upon the hills and under every green tree you shall overthrow their altars and break their pillars and burn their groves with fire and you shall hew down the graven images of their gods and destroy the names of them out of that place so when god says you're going to come into the promised land you're going to come into the nations of these heathen one of the most important things you need to do is to destroy the false religion that is existing in that land and part of that is really destroying the name of these false gods because their name is not his name there's a distinction between the lord god between the god that we worship and all the gods of the heathen the gods of the pagans all these false gods and one of those big differences is his name okay now we're going to keep coming back to jeremy chapter 12 but go if you would to psalms 83 go to psalms 83 and i want to show you a few other things in the bible here now this is actually a great verse in the bible that's often twisted by a cult called the jehovah's witnesses i like to refer to them as false witnesses okay because they don't preach the right gospel they really don't even believe lots of portions of scripture they don't believe in hell they don't believe in a lot of things that the bible teaches they don't believe that jesus christ is god in the flesh they believe that he's just like a god or you know they have all kinds of or they're the he's just the son of god they change like lots of verses in the bible they have their own version and and really they're just a cult okay that's all that's all you can really say about them now if you run into a jehovah's witness they will almost every time try to take you to psalms 83 okay this is where they're going to want to take you this is their john 3 16 of the bible okay psalms 83 look at verse 16 the bible says fill their faces with shame that they may seek thy name oh lord let them be confounded and troubled forever yea let them be put to shame and perish that men may know that thou whose name alone is jehovah art the most high over all the earth now this is a great verse and what is the bible saying here it's saying that the only person with the name jehovah is god okay it's saying he alone is the one that has the name jehovah and in fact we really don't see any false gods or any false religions worshiping a jehovah that i know i'm not saying there couldn't be like a random guy in his basement okay i'm just saying we don't see major religions we don't see any large groups or sex or whatever attributing their worship to this god of jehovah and it's a you know it's a false god now obviously you have the cults perverting christianity and they use the name jehovah i get that but what the bible is clearly teaching here is that the god is the only one who has this name legitimately even if you did ascribe it to a false god or some other person or deity or whatever it's fake because there's only one that has the name jehovah and that's god god is the one with the name jehovah now what i like to ask joe's also go to psalms 148 for a moment if they say that this means that the only name of god is joe which is what they would postulate then i like to take them to psalms 148 and ask them this question okay but we know from scripture if you just you know read any portion of scripture that god has many names he doesn't have just one name okay and in fact pretty much every single person in this room has more than one name you probably have a first name you probably have a last name you might even have a middle name you might even have two middle names right you might even have a nickname you have a lot of different things that you go by and when we read the bible it's no different we read about all kinds of people simon peter you know it's the same guy right paul saul and sometimes even we talk about pearsons name changing just from a language perspective in this in a sense that you know my son's name's james but in spanish one uh interpretation of that is santiago that's crazy to me is i'm like how is james and santiago the same or whatever but it's talking about the same person it's the same name in essence okay and even in the bible you have things like this where you have names like emmanuel and then it talks about god with us and you have so you have kind of like this cornucopia of names and things and descriptions that are given you know it talks about certain angels in the bible being apollyon and a baton but it's just the same name basically in different types of languages that the bible is describing for you now god has multiple names and there's multiple ways to even say his name if you put in connection the different languages and all the other different aspects that come to a name but it'd be foolish to read the bible and walk away and say god only has one name is joe you're basically just like ripping out the rest of your bible because the rest of your bible is going to talk about god with a different name you know and in fact the king james only is jehovah i believe seven times so you really have a lot of other names mentioned throughout the scriptures god almighty the king of kings lord of lords uh so you have a lot of different things just god lord god i mean you have a lot of different ways that god is expressed plus you have the specific names like god the father you have jesus christ you have the holy ghost or as referred to as the holy spirit and it's funny because you know in spanish uh spirito santo is is just how you refer that you don't have like a holy ghost in the sense of like a fanta or phantom or whatever so it's like you know when it comes to language language also affects the name of god and how you're going to describe him but at the end of the day god doesn't just have one name and if we're going to take the interpretation of whose name alone is jehovah well let's read psalm 148 for a second and look at verse 13 let them praise the name of the lord for his name alone is excellent now wait a minute if we're going to take the interpretation that his name alone is jehovah means his only name is jova then wouldn't we have to take that the same place here because it's worded the exact same except for it it replaces jehovah with excellent so what is it trying to say here is it really saying that the only name of god is excellent are we going to start a new cult you know the excellent witnesses or whatever we're the most excellent witnesses man you know no it's saying that god's name is excellent above every other name okay this makes me think of some scripture how about philippians go to philippians chapter number two what will be a name that's more excellent than every other name okay and we're not talking about wayne's world we're talking about our father's world all right what is the name that's above every name well the bible tells us in philippians chapter number two let's read a little bit of verses here it says in verse 9 where for god also hath highly exalted him and given him a name which is above every name now what does the word excel mean to excel means to go above or to go beyond or you know to achieve greatness or something like that excelling right so if you're talking about it's above every name it's excelling every name right verse 10 that of the name of jesus every knee should bow of things in heaven and things in earth and things under the earth and that every tongue should confess that jesus christ is lord of the glory of god the father so therefore we have the name of our savior jesus christ the son of god who is also god in the flesh who's not just the son but he's also god he also has a name which is above every name and notice it says specifically in verse 10 heaven earth and under the earth so where are you going to find a name better than jesus he's not going to find it okay and that's why we love the name of jesus christ that's we worship him and in order to worship the true god of the bible you have to worship his name there's not you know it's not like worshiping god is has many names that you know are just fun no there's a one name that's above every name and it's jesus and that's the name we're really supposed to worship you know when we pray to god the father we pray in jesus name okay and there's none other name given among men whereby we must be saved in acts chapter number four there's only one name that saves it was jesus now i'm not saying that you have to use only the english version of that name okay go back to deuteronomy chapter five now go to deuteronomy chapter five but it would need to be jesus or the equivalent in another language you know whether that's uh greek isus or uh spanish jesus or you know whatever equivalent that is and even in fact i'm sure there's a hebrew equivalent most people would say yeshua and and i don't know probably that's the the right equivalent there's kind of a controversy on if it's like yahashua or whatever but you know i'm not going to make a cult out of the hebrew version of that as if the hebrew one you know the name of god was delivered or at least specifically the son of god was delivered to us in greek the new testament was written in greek all the manuscripts are pointed back to greek why would then i say elevate a hebrew version of that when i don't have a single verse that has yahshua okay and there has been modern versions of the bible that try to update the new testament and literally replace the name of jesus with yahshua okay which is just bizarre okay imagine if you went home for christmas this this weekend or whatever and your parents are like you know what your name is no longer jonathan it's it's a one and we're only going to refer to you as one and if anybody says jonathan they're not even talking to you they're talking that doesn't even exist anymore it's only one this is what the sacred namers start becoming they're like well have you called upon his hebrew name his real name or whatever and it's like what do you mean his real name his real name is jesus my friend it's not like it's it's not like the hebrew version of it makes it something different no it's it's his name in all languages okay what would what we're really trying to distinguish from is a completely different name right like just buddha okay that's not jesus in any language okay we're trying to differentiate it from a false god from vishnu or or you know some other alternative god that exists out there with a completely different name we're not going to worship that god we're only going to worship the lord jesus christ that's who we're going to worship now look at judorani chapter five and look at verse number seven thou shalt have none other gods before me it's clear in the bible that we're only supposed to worship the one true god and he's in heaven okay jehovah god and we understand that the real god is a trinity the father son holy ghost these three persons but there's still only one god and that's who we worship we worship them you know in spirit and truth we're going to do it correctly and other gods are just false according to the bible now people worship these things but they're just really just kind of a combination of a figment of their imagination and demonic influence the bible makes it clear that the devils are somehow you know convincing people tricking people deceiving them into worshiping you know a rock or worshiping a piece of wood or worshiping some kind of an idol or graven image thinking it's some kind of a special god or some kind of special deity but these things are just figments of of humans imagination perhaps by demonic influence and oftentimes the gods of the heathen and the pagans really are kind of the same type of god just they keep changing the name you know they just kind of travel throughout history through the most popular civilizations they go from the greek gods the roman gods to whatever and you know you could kind of follow this line and see that this it's kind of like a similar god with the same attributes but the names just kind of update or change throughout but all of them are fake none of them are real so when the bible says have no other gods worth you can't have another god really because there is only one god but you could worship this figment of your imagination you could worship this devil or demon or whatever that you're calling ascribing some kind of a name to or whatever but at the end of the day you know what's really important is that you understand that there's only one way to worship the true god and it's worshiping his name alone okay other religions will worship all manner of names and false gods and everything like that and a lot of people put forth this idea and say well maybe god has revealed himself to different people at different times with different names okay well if it's a different name that's found in the bible i agree if it's a name not found in the bible it's not a name of god okay sounds like a false god that you're worshiping okay and god does not have multiple ways to get to him there's only one way it's jesus christ jesus christ said i'm the way the truth and the life no man cometh unto the father but by me and specifically he doesn't even want you to talk about these other false gods go to exodus 23 go to exodus chapter 23 for a moment let me show you a verse here god hates the names of these false gods okay it's not like he came down and said oh yeah i'm vishnu or whatever no no no he hates that name he hates the names of these false gods and these demons and whatever you know thor or whatever you want to call them it doesn't really matter exodus 23 look at verse 13 and in all things that i have said unto you be circumspect and make no mention of the name of other gods neither let it be heard out of thy mouth how does god feel about these false gods or whatever he's saying don't talk about these people don't utter their name or whatever and i would you know and to understand this i would say he's basically just saying it unless you're just talking negatively about them or whatever you should never be mentioning them because obviously the bible brings up bail and you know some of the false gods rem fan and certain things or whatever in a very derogatory negative sense only giving reference to identifying what we're talking about but at the end of the day you're not supposed to be going around saying anything positive about these other gods worshiping these other gods praising these other gods that's the context he doesn't want them to worship god the father and to worship bail and to worship rem fan and to worship some other false god he's saying never mention them they're all false it's not like well we're still worshiping the same god no no that's a false god no no that's that's not a real name of god unless it's given to you in scripture it's not a name of the god that you're supposed to worship the true god the lord jesus christ god the father the holy ghost okay go if you would to do it on me 13 go to journey 13 now what's interesting is that in america this doctrine this idea has crept in just about everywhere and especially in politics this this ecumenical satanic idea of we all worship the same god and look people are saying this more and more as we get closer to the anti-christ because the anti-christ needs to be a unifying figure for false religion but here's the thing god is the exact opposite he's a destroyer of false religion okay the god of the bible wants to destroy all other ways of religion all other source documents all other names of false gods everything like that the anti-christ is going to try and heap them all to himself okay just like how the demons they love it that people are worshiping a rock and it's kind of like worshiping them or whatever and it's kind of like they get this little trickery and this deceit out of it or whatever the devil realizes nobody wants to actually worship him he has the trick and deceive people into worshiping him okay and so he's going to try and take on a lot of these names he's going to be an imposter of all the gods and if you're going to imposter all of the gods what would be the most important one to imposter jesus right so he's going to try and act like he is god the true god get in the temple and declare that he is god and everything like that because he wants to get all this honor and glory and praise and he can only get it through deceit or through threat of violence or or whatever means that he has to try and and get it falsely okay but i'm going to give you a couple quotes because you know some people think that if we could just go back to like the 1990s or the 2000 republicans you know our country would be so much better let me remind you of a republican george w bush the w from texas here's a question he was asked do we all worship the same god on national television the interviews out there george w i think we do what and the guy was specific about muslims and christians he wasn't even saying like just other like denominations of christianity or something like that he's saying like every person on the planet do we all worship the same god and george w is up there i think we do no he says it's just different routes to the almighty no no it's different routes to hell all those routes that are not the bible the lord jesus christ lead straight to hell that's it broad is the way which leads to destruction sure but they don't lead to the god of the bible then he asks another question do christians non-christians and muslims go to heaven here's here's george w's response yes they do what what's the point of even being a christian if a non-christian still goes to heaven you know why why not be a muslim why not be i mean why be anything if if all roads lead to heaven what's the point and look that's the reason why they believe that is because they don't want to believe religion has a point because they don't do anything they don't actually know what the bible says they don't actually go to church they don't actually love the lord jesus christ they don't care about his commandments so of course they have to come up with an ideology that gets them into heaven you want to know why people believe the things they do because they fit into their ideology of getting into heaven be a good person well what's your standard of a good person me and above you know whatever my moral standard is and above you know rescuing enough cats right not not killing a ton of people right i mean even murderers think that they're good well i haven't i'm not a child rapist or whatever and it's like okay yeah great i'm glad you're not a reprobate but at the end of the day you know what we're all sinners it's the exact opposite approach that we have to think of you have to first realize no one's getting into heaven that's how you can say what does the world think everyone's getting into heaven that's as good as me right and of course george w probably thinks he's going to go to some kind of heaven but his heaven's going to look like hell here's the next question they asked him is the bible literally true uh probably not probably not how how can you even claim to be a christian and say that the bible's not and you know it's funny the breath right before that christians would have probably taken it out and like had a parade day because they were talking about how to worship the lord and how to know what's right he's like well you just gotta appeal to scripture you know we can't we can't get away from scripture and scripture tells us what to do so do you think the bible's literally true probably not it's like what it's like how do you how do you have christianity oh the bible oh is the bible true not being worshipped or especially correctly i'm not going to go to catholic baths why would i go look they literally worship things like mary they literally they're going to come up then down the aisle with a huge graven image of false people saints and mary and whatever they're going to bring up you know a graven image i mean the bible's telling you destroy it and not have any of those other names look mary is not a deity he's a sinner he was a sinner just like you and i she still needed grace she still had to have mercy he still had to believe in the lord jesus christ to go to heaven video that i made a long time ago but i researched billy graham and because he was so popular there's literally sermons of his from several decades i mean essentially just his whole ministry i can't remember it's like it's like somewhere around the 40s maybe it's like the 40s the 50s the 60s the 70s 80s and 90s i mean this guy stretched for decade after decade after decade and what i did is i said okay i'll just listen to one sermon in each decade and see you know what this guy's like and you know what it was the first decade repent of your sins second decade repent of your sins the third decade repent of your sins the next decade repent of your sins the next decade repent of your sin then he's like an old man okay he's been teaching a false gospel his whole life of give up your sins and turn away from your sins and you know when are you going to clean up your life and whatever to get to heaven appealing to lots of catholics well at the end of his life he's interviewed on national television and they're asking about people going to heaven that are not christian not even just catholic just like anything and he literally said talking about people getting to heaven he said they may not even know the name of jesus they turn to the only light that they have and i think that they're saved go to john chapter one go to john chapter one billy graham literally on national television said you don't even have to know the name of jesus and you could be saved as long as you just turn to whatever light you have well here's a problem there's only one light and that light is jesus so if you don't turn to that light it doesn't work you know every light switch in the whole world will not turn on these lights except for the one that's actually designated for these lights i mean you could turn them all on you could flip them and do whatever you want you'll never get these lights to turn on unless you turn on the right light switch and here's the thing the same as with salvation you could flip every light switch you want in the whole world and you'll never get to heaven unless you flip the light switch of jesus christ that's it there's only one light switch look at john one one in the beginning was the word and the word was with god and the word was god the same was in the beginning with god all things are made by him and without him was not anything made that was made in him was life and the life was the light of men and the light shineth in darkness and the darkness comprehended it not there's a man sent from god his name was john the same came for a witness to bear witness of the light that all men through him might believe he was not that light but was sent to bear witness of that light that was the true light which lighteth every man that cometh into the world so what is the light option for every man in the world it's jesus or nothing he doesn't say oh he's the light for everyone that hears about only jesus no no no no no no no this the episcopalian light and the catholic light and then later he's just like i don't think any of those work so let's go ahead and put some more muslim hindu atheist he flipped on every switch except and upon the hills and under every green tree and ye shall overthrow their altars and break their pillars and burn their groves with fire you shall hew down the graven images of their gods and destroy the names of them out of that place verse four ye shall not do so unto the lord your god now what is he bringing up he's saying don't don't do this to the lord your god what does he mean well when you understand the context you have to realize that this false religion permeated like all of their geography like every single area that they're in in existence they basically have their false religion spread everywhere okay because that's why he's talking about the fact that they have all these they have groves and images and just have they have it everywhere it says upon the high mountains and upon the hills and notice this under every green tree so he's been probably a little exaggerative here but he's basically trying to make the point that their false religion is like everywhere i mean it's just over here up here down here and then it's just like in every single corner you know it makes me think of the catholics just putting stupid little altars just like everywhere they've got an altar in their front yard they've got an altar in their by their window they got an altar at the church window they got an altar you know in the front front yard of their business they got i mean it's just like a catholic shrine just everywhere just shrine after shrine for shrine but the hindus and other false religions they just got false gods just everywhere in their business in their car on their purse i mean they got idols like hanging around their neck i mean they just have this false religion just like everywhere inundating them and god's saying don't do that with me you don't have me everywhere okay now he says in verse number five but unto the place which the lord your god shall choose out of all your tribes to put his name there even unto his habitation shall you seek and thither shall they come the point number one i had this morning is this if you're going to worship god you got to do it his name but you also got to do it in his place his place not your place not the place that you dream up not the place that you want the place that he wants okay that's the way to worship god his way is his name and his place okay and it's not everywhere notice that he's making it really clear there's only a specific place that i want you to go and worship is that not true i mean he's making it clear they did it everywhere he doesn't want them to do it in these places and in fact throughout the uh old testament you'll see god gets mad about them worshiping in the groves or worshiping on the high places or worshiping the high he has very specific ways that he wants to be worshiped and one of those is the place now look at verse eight he says this ye shall not do after all the things that we do here this day every man whatsoever is right in his own eyes for ye are not as yet come to the rest and to the inheritance which the lord your god giveth you but when ye go over jordan and dwell in the land which the lord your god giveth you to inherit and when he giveth you rest from all your enemies round about so that you dwell in safety then there shall be a place which the lord your god shall choose to cause his name to dwell there thither shall you bring all that i command you your burn offerings and your sacrifices your tithes and the heave offering of your hand and all your choice vows which you vow unto the lord and he shall rejoice before the lord your god ye and your sons and your daughters and your men servants and maid servants and the levite that is within your gates for as much as he hath no part nor inheritance with you take heed to thyself that they'll offer not thy burnt offerings in every place that thou seest but in the place which the lord shall choose and one of thy tribes there thou shalt offer thy burnt offerings and there thou shalt do all that i command thee so in the old testament you could not just worship god wherever you want just go wherever you want and worship wherever you want no god saying when you come into the promised land i'm going to designate a very specific place that you have to come and that's where you worship me think about the fact that when they were in egypt if he could be worshipped anywhere why did they have to leave egypt in the first place they couldn't even start worshipping him until they got in the wilderness they had to leave the egyptians they had to go out and separate themselves even when they're in the wilderness you couldn't worship him wherever you wanted you had to go to the tabernacle without the camp you had to go without the camp where god was and you had to go see him specifically you couldn't just do it however you want and here he's saying once you get to the promised land again you cannot worship me anywhere but where i say now part of worship of god is sacrifices that's why this chapter goes in a lot about sacrifice and he says things like you can eat meat wherever you want but if if the meat that you're sacrificing the meat you're killing to eat is a sacrifice to god you can't do that anywhere but the place that i name okay and and in fact they have to store up often their offerings and their ties for a long period of time so that they would be able to then take them to the lord and they're not allowed to exchange these offerings they're not allowed to basically do anything else with them in leviticus 27 it made it clear even if you did want to let's say you had a cow a firstling of a cow or whatever a bullock or a sheep that you wanted to offer unto the lord but you decide i just really want to eat that i can't wait to take it you'd have to add a fifth unto you'd have to add 20 on top of whatever that particular animal or sacrifice is worth if you were going to exchange it and you were not allowed to exchange it where it was worse or bad or whatever this is where you get the concept and this kind of helps you understand a few things in the bible in the book in the new testament though the lord jesus christ he kind of is rebuking the pharisees by saying that they are you know teaching for doctrines the commandments of men and he's saying the bible says to honor thy father thy mother but then they have like a gift and they say it is corban and corban means like a devoted thing meaning that it's like some kind of a sacrifice or some kind of offering or tithe in the lord so especially when you understand in the bible they were supposed to keep these things up for three years and then bring them unto the lord that you know essentially you have all these sacrifices that you can't do anything with for a long period of time and so the pharisees came up with this idea they're like oh okay so anytime someone needs something and they come and they look at all my flock they're like hey could you help a brother out with the sheep or whatever they'd be like oh that's corban because you couldn't you could not give that to anything to anybody for any reason or whatever so it's just kind of like get out of jail free card anything they had laid up any of the flour or any of the oil or any of their drink offerings or any of their sacrifices or animals or whatever that someone would come they're just so stingy they couldn't even honor their father and the mother their father and mother would say can you help me out son oh that's devoted to the lord it's corban it's a gift or whatever i can't do anything with it that's what they would do is their get out of jail free card you have to understand that that's why that kind of existed today i mean we can transfer money like that you know we can send money wherever we want across the world through electronic transfer so we may not necessarily understand some of these concepts but throughout history and the majority of time the transfer of money has been a very difficult thing a dangerous thing took a lot of time that's even where banks got all the influence and power that they have because it used to be when you transfer money from one bank to another you'd have the wells fargo coach you know armed with all these armed men and it's like cavalry going because you don't want the gold stolen from your bank or whatever so the bank would have you know these basically armored vehicles the armored vehicle of the past okay the carriage or whatever the wagon and they would go and they would deliver the money but that became so dangerous because of highway robbery and thieves and everything like that that they started figuring out how to offset loans from one place to another and they basically just say you owe me five bucks today you owe me ten bucks tomorrow and they just keep changing the books and they never actually exchanged money became safer okay but with convenience comes a decrease in also security okay in the sense that you can cook the books and you know they have so much influence control over everybody now that you're kind of like i wish you'd go back to the physical trading of money sometimes okay but at the end of the day you have to understand when it comes to god's economy they don't have you know like whatever the cash app okay they don't have you know basically these electronic funds they can transfer so when they bring their ties and offerings in the lord they have to store them up for a long portion of time and then after a certain point they have to go and take that to the lord but they have to go to his place they can't just give it to whoever they want or wherever they want go to hebrews chapter 10 go to hebrews chapter 10 you know here's another point that's really important they cannot worship god at home they're not god's not saying like hey you can do all your worship that you want at home no no no if you're going to have a sacrifice you have to take that to where i named you have to come and worship me in the place that i designated where i want now i'm not saying that you couldn't pray or you couldn't read your bible or whatever but i'm saying that to in to fully encompass the worship of the lord that can't be done at home alone if your worship of the lord is only at home you're in violation of much of the old testament much of the commandments they had three feasts every single year they're supposed to go up into the house of the lord they're supposed to take their tithes and offerings of the lord you know and it's not anything new in the new testament in fact i believe the new testament is even stronger than the old testament on the fact that you had to go to where the lord was look at hebrews chapter 10 verse 24 and let us consider one another to revoke unto love and to good works not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together as the manner of some is but exhorting one another and so much the more as you see the day approaching say well i like the three time a year christianity okay well you easter only people you you need to pick up two services okay all right but easter only is not acceptable you know in the old testament you had to go at least three times and they weren't even just a one-time thing it was like a whole week it was like a conference it was like a festival you know it was a long period of time but in the new testament the bible is saying so much the more meaning that we need to be gathering and assembling and coming together more and more and more and look the gathering and assembling of the new testament is not anywhere and everywhere that you decide it's where god decided it's where god chose that place and you say well how does god choose it and the old testament just said explicitly it's jerusalem okay just like this is where you're going to go all right or in other times it could have been bethel or whatever but he had a very specific place okay in the new testament it doesn't say you know hearse texas okay i get that right what what did god do he appoints leaders like pastors and evangelists and deacons and teachers and everything like that prophets and they essentially are saying this is where we're going to meet and you know what god's given the authority and the power to those leaders to tell you where to meet and that's where you meet it's not for you to decide well i'm just i'm just gonna have three people over at my house and we're having church this morning no wrong well i'm gonna go meet under a tree somewhere wrong no we're gonna meet in the high place wrong no you're supposed to go to church you're supposed to go to the right kind of church too not just the church that's next door no no no no no not the catholic mass somewhere not the synagogue of the jews you know the synagogue of the devil the synagogue of satan okay no no you're not supposed to go to some church where the pastor is a you know a girl pretending to be a dude or a dude pretending to be a girl that's not even a church my friend and let me show you in the bible how god feels about going to the wrong church go to revelation chapter two for a moment i want to flip to a few verses real quick but here's the thing you know some people say oh i think every church is good for every church you can worship god wrong wrong and you know what we see apostasy even in the new testament okay and they're not that far removed from beginning christianity okay of course over time it's going to get worse and worse and worse and decay and decay but even in revelation look at chapter two verse five remember therefore from whence thou art fallen or a pen and do the first works or else i will come to thee quickly to remove thy candlestick out of his place except thou repent so this is written to the church in ephesus he says he's going to take the candlestick out of there uh he's going to remove thy candlestick out of its place if you go to verse 20 in the previous chapter chapter 1 verse 20 it says in the latter portion the seven candlesticks which also the seven churches this is going to remove their church now i believe this is in a spiritual connection meaning they could probably still be physically meeting and it would be meaningless in vain because god doesn't even consider them a church anymore also think about all the work and effort and energy that's gone into the new testament up to this point and he know he notes seven churches only seven in asia and he never mentions a church in the same city like multiple like it's like the church at smirna the church at ephesus you know now sometimes they'll say churches of like elation or something because he's talking about a region or an area or whatever when he's talking about a city it's like here's the church at this particular area because you don't just have like everybody at home having a hundred churches no no there's one church where everybody goes and meets and that's the place that you worship god that's the place where you bring your tithes and your offerings that's the place where you go and worship his name not whatever false god that you've dreamed up in your heart go to first timothy chapter number three first timothy chapter number three just flip back a few pages first timothy chapter three look at verse 15 the bible says but if i tarry long that thou mayest know how the oddest behave thyself in the house of god which is the church of the living god the pillar in ground truth you know if there's a instructions on how to behave that means that there's ways to not do it right think about it if he's telling you how to do it there must be a way not to do it he's saying this is how you ought to behave how you ought to have church and you know what he's writing this because there's going to be people that do it wrong and why would i want to go to the church that's doing it wrong and you know even in revelation there's a lot of churches are screwed up doing a lot of weird stuff go to acts chapter 20 acts chapter 20 now i would say this i would rather go to the church that's screwed up on sunday morning than no church there is no excuse well i'll go to church when they get all the doctrine right you're not right you don't have all the doctrine right okay obviously you just go to the best place that you can but as soon as it starts getting to the point where you just can't handle it anymore i mean it's just the doctor is just too horrible too much heresy it's too many problems it's negatively affecting you or whatever it may make sense to say you know what i need to find a new place i need to play find a place that you know is actually going to help me worship the lord that's the right place to go to acts chapter 20 what would be a sign that you're in the wrong place well here look at verse 30 also of your own self shall men arise speaking perverse things to draw away disciples after them the apostle paul said hey there's going to be churches where the leader goes bad or evidence is the fact that he was always bad it finally just starts leaking out and you start realizing he's drawing away disciples after himself meaning that the church is no longer serving christ it's serving his belly it's serving himself it's serving his doctrine his ideas and it's basically turning into a cult and you say you know what i don't want to be in a cult i want to be in a church that worships god in a church that worships the lord jesus christ and as soon as you see the guy just throwing the bible out the window and just preaching whatever he wants out of his own heart that's when you got to say maybe i need to find a different place to meet go to second thessalonians chapter number two second thessalonians chapter number two you know you can't just worship god wherever you want you got to worship god the way he wants you to his name his place okay now of course when we're talking about an individual obviously you could get down on your knees and pray the lord wherever you find yourself okay you can read the bible wherever you find yourself and i hope that you do that but i'm saying that god has very specific instructions about us coming together meeting together and we have to do that in his place now second thessalonians chapter number two the bible warns about a coming apostasy look at what it says in verse three let no man deceive you by any means for that day shall not come except they're coming a falling away first and that man is going to be revealed the son of virgin so should i really anticipate that every church is going to be good go to third john go to third john and i'm taking a minute to kind of belabor this point but you can't just say like well i'm in a building that says church so i'm good you know there needs to be more discernment than that you need to in fact realize that the pastor even believes salvation by faith because i would i would never go to a church where the pastor is not safe if the pastor is not saved it's an immediately disqualification okay i don't care if 99 of the church is safe i'm leaving that church i want nothing to do with the church where the pastor is not safe second point is if the church is not king james only if they're in english church if they're using an english bible and it's not the king james bible see you suckers i guess i mean maybe if they're on the bishops or something i would i would be like guys here let's update okay but if they're using the niv or the esv or the hiv or the aids version or whatever i'm not into it i'm not going to use that those are deal breakers for me now look if the pastor's saving he's using the king james bible you might just have to put up with a lot because that's the best thing you got in your area you know what i'm going to make sure that i'm finding the best church in my area the absolute best and that's the place you go and there's a lot of places that look like church but they don't smell like it they don't act like it they don't talk like it and you know what you should run away from those places screaming look at third john chapter number nine i'm sorry verse nine i wrote him the church but diachries who love it to have the preeminence among them receive it is not wherefore if i come i will remember his deeds which he doeth prating against us with malicious words and not content there with neither doth he himself receive the brethren and forbideth them that would and cast them out of the church is this church good i mean whoever does he seems to be a leader you know presumably even maybe the pastor maybe the person that's in charge he's saying this guy won't let anybody that's actually saved or right on doctrine to come into the church okay go to second timothy chapter number two second the idea that church is apostatized is found all over the bible i can show you this everywhere in the scriptures so then we should also believe in the new testament that there's going to be a lot of bad churches beloved believe not every spirit betray the spirits whether they have god because many false prophets are gone into the world you know there's many false prophets many false teachers many bad churches and in fact it's literally under every green tree it seems like it's on every high hill i mean it's just every i mean you just go down the street and it's just church of the church of the church of the church of the church of the church and you say like pastor surely why plant a church there's literally 1600 southern baptist churches in our area isn't that enough it is i mean look if there was 1600 great churches in this area i would never start a church or have a church here it would make no sense that's bizarre it's because there's 1600 crappy so-called churches in this area you know the southern baptist convention says you have to genuinely turn away from your sins to be saved how is that baptist it's the same kind of baptist like uh like um bill clinton the baptist did you not know that bill clinton's a baptist buddy i'm sure monica linsky's a baptist too no i'm just kidding i mean what kind of weirdness is the world that we live in today you know they're giving baptists a bad name you know they use the home and christian standard bible which go join their church so you can you can hear well done thou good and faithful slave okay but i as for me in my house i like the servant in the bible all right and you know i'm going to use the king james bible i'm going to stick with the fundamentals of faith i'm not going to become non-denominational light and go to a southern baptist church no no i'm going to stay baptist not just name only doctrine too and also the place of worship is like a baptist church and you know what how could you say like a whole group of churches would go bad i don't know let's read the bible second timothy chapter two verse 15 i'm thinking first timothy i said second timothy i meant first timothy chapter two i'm thinking of uh i am i'm sorry i wrote it down wrong in my notes it's second timothy chapter one verse 15 don't write it down wrong in your notes all right second timothy chapter one verse 15 this thou knowest that all they which are in asia be turned away from me of whom are by jealous and homogeneous those paul started every church in asia and then eventually none of them want him isn't that crazy isn't that insane you know what you see that today you see whole churches turning away and basically uh you know forsaking the people that set them up or started their churches or whatever now i had a lot more in my sermon but let's just go i just want to go to like two places let's go back to the journey 12 and go to malachi you know what's a really good parallel to this sermon is the wise men in your bible because think about the wise men the wise men come from the east to worship the king of the jews they're worshiping his name they're coming to worship him not only that they're not worshiping in the east they have to go to his place they're going all the way to where jesus is all right anytime you find true religion in the bible people are always having to go somewhere they have to go to jerusalem they have to go in the wilderness right hey you want to get baptized of john you have to go out to where john is in the wilderness right you want to hear jesus preach you have to go and follow him wherever he's at right it's all a lot of going it's a lot of travel it's a lot of effort and energy to to seek the lord you know the queen of sheba wants to hear the wisdom of solomon she has to go right she has to go and hear the wisdom of solomon you know what in the new testament it's no different you're gonna have to go somewhere you're gonna have to actually travel a little bit you actually have to put some effort and energy into christianity here okay and when the wise men show up though they don't come empty-handed what do they do they open up their treasures and they give their gifts unto the lord jesus christ meaning that you can't just give your money and your tithes and offerings to any yahoo on the street and say that that's christianity now you got to give it to the lord okay and the point of a tithe in the bible was so that the work of the lord would be successful that's the whole point carnally speaking and spiritually speaking it's basically you know you're giving your tithe to the lord and obviously the lord doesn't need money but that's how the lord has ordained it that the ministers of his would be able to fund the service of the lord and you know when people stop tithing and giving offerings unto the lord this the work of the lord starts to dwindle and decay and rot and everything like that you know at some points in the old testament the levites were not getting paid there's no money coming in the house they have to go and get jobs they have to go work in the field and basically make their own meal they have to basically make their own way and everything like that and in the bible you know when it comes to the tithe the bible says that it's his tithe if you're going to worship god you have to realize you think it's his name that if you're going to worship him it's his place and it's his time you know those devoted things that you had you can't just do whatever you want with him you can't just give him to some poor guy and say i tied this week or whatever no no no you had to give him to the lord now look at jude 9 chapter 12 and look at verse number 11 again then there shall be a place which the lord your god shall choose to cause his name to dwell there thither shall you bring all that i command you and your burnt offerings and your sacrifices your tithes and the heave offering of your hand and all your choice vows which you vow unto the lord okay and it said in verse 12 the latter portion the levite that is within the gates you know he's going to rejoice with you skip down verse 19 take heed to thyself that they'll forsake not the levite as long as they'll live as upon the earth you're not supposed to forsake the levite the priests of god in the new testament we don't have levites we don't have a priesthood after the order of aaron or the the order you know coming from the levites or anything like that it's not after the order of them it's after the order of melchizedek okay go to malachi chapter 3 the last place you return and in the new testament the bible brings up melchizedek as being the change of the priesthood it says you know that there's also a change of the law and we all love the change of the law right i mean what was one of the changes of the law bacon and you got to think about this you know some people say like oh new tithing is not a new testament doctrine you can only prove this from the old testament or whatever well the book of proverbs says honor the lord with all thy substance and you know i don't think that proverbs is like an old testament only book my friend it's timeless truths in the book of proverbs okay and it says with all thine increase meaning that everything that god increases you with you're supposed to give him an offering or tithe but the first tithing in the bible isn't even coming from the law it's coming from abraham and then you got jacob giving a tenth of all that he possesses and he's giving it to the house of god abraham was giving tithes on the melchizedek right now think about this in the timing of melchizedek it's kind of similar to now because what did you have in the timing of melchizedek well when noah gets off the boat god tells him very specifically that all the living creatures are meat for him so every meat is on the table with melchizedek and guess what all the meats on the table with melchizedek in the future because it's the same okay so all the things that were kind of the same with melchizedek in the old testament before the law was given are basically the same in the new testament because jesus is after the order of melchizedek that's our priesthood that's the priest that we inside and the bible makes it clear in hebrews that when tithes are given to melchizedek or they're given to men on earth that jesus is receiving them okay so whenever you tithe the melchizedek or to some man on earth you're really just tithing the lord and you say well you know if we were under the levitical priesthood then i could see how we'd supposed to tithe because it's clear i mean it's tithing is in in the priest of the of levi but here's the thing tithing was in the priest of melchizedek too so your only option to say that tithing is not biblical is to have a third priesthood because if you had tithing with melchizedek before the law and then you had tithing with levi and then you go to the next and you say it's now we're back to melchizedek guess what you still have bacon and you still have tithing okay so if you like the bacon you have to like the tithing all right and vice versa and i'm i'm willing to pay that you know whatever the word you know if the lord is like hey you know no tithing no bacon it's like let's bring the tithe back okay i mean that sounds great you know and it's not just that i mean think about all the other freedom stuff that we have in the new testament there's a lot of stuff i really like in the new testament the fact that when i sin i don't have to get some kind of an animal sacrifice and go travel a really far distance and go and sacrifice it right isn't that great that i just get on my knees and just pray to god and ask him for forgiveness you know it's great that i can go to a new testament church and and you know we have the the church that was purchased with his blood i mean there's so many great things in the new testament you know i don't have to have a lot of stringent uh you know restrictions on my activities like i don't have a sabbath day that i have to you know go through all these extra rituals and all these ceremonial washings and you know there's all these kind of things that talks about in the defilement and all this crazy stuff that you have to observe in the old testament we don't have to do that in the new testament it's called the better testament you better believe that tithing stuck around okay and all the old testament verses about it still apply look at malachi chapter number three and look at verse number eight will a man rob god yet you have robbed me but you say where do we rob thee in tithes and offerings your curse with a curse for you have robbed me even this whole nation bringing all the ties into the storehouse that there may be meat in mine house and prove me now you're with saith the lord of hosts if i will not open you the windows of evan and pour you out a blessing that there shall not be room enough to receive it and i will rebuke the devourer for your sakes and he shall not destroy the fruits of your ground neither shall your vine cast her fruit before the time in the field day at the lord of hosts so according to the bible it's not our money it's his money anyways it's his tie right and we're here to worship his name and we're here to worship in his place and it makes sense that all these things fit together right because my house is not you know attached to the name of the lord jesus christ it's the shelley house right you know and it's it's your house when we come to church it's god's house you know it's not it's not a question when we're gathered together and assembled this is the lord's house that we've assembled in and he's here with us right number two is the fact that it's his place well if we're going to have his place how are we going to afford that how are we going to you know basically accommodate that and you know what i don't want a church of just five people for the rest of my life i like the fact that i see hundreds of people you know different people on a regular basis whose house can fit all of us this morning well i guess we're gonna have somewhere we could meet under a green tree although it's the winter so it's you know i guess evergreen or whatever i don't like evergreens that much i got rid of all mine okay i destroyed them but at the end of the day you need to have a place right so it makes sense to have a church where we can meet together and you know what it's his tide so that the functions of the lord can go forward and and essentially you know you say well how am i gonna do more on less because god's gonna bless you you're gonna do more on less and god's gonna pour you out a blessing you know god wants to give you more than you need but you know you gotta first honor him and you gotta worship him his way when you worship him his way it's gonna all work when you go to your you go whatever name you want whatever place you want and you do whatever you want with your money first when you do it his way you get the blessing let's close in prayer thank you heavenly father for giving us these instructions for giving us an opportunity to serve you i pray that we would give the honor and respect to your name that we would take your your house of god the house of god seriously and soberly that we'd see as an important institution it's the most important institution that we have when it comes to worshiping the lord and i pray that we would continue to worship the lord with spirit and truth and that we would bring in the tithes and offerings you know according to your word and according to your commandments that we could honor you and that we realize that by honoring you you're going to pour out a blessing unto us i pray that you would just bless every single person in this church that's worshiping you and and serving you and striving to draw closer to you and that as we go into the next year that we could do great exploits in your name in jesus name we pray and amen with that let's close it out with one more song go ahead and take out your hymnal again to 426 i heard the bells on christmas day you can pretend today is christmas okay 426 sing it all together on the first i heard the bells on christmas day their old familiar carols play and while it's me the words repeat of peace on earth good will to men i thought how as the day had come the boundaries of all christian and rolled along the broken song of peace on earth good will to men and in despair i bowed my head there is no peace on earth i said for hate is strong and marks a song of peace on earth good will to men then build the bells more loud and deep god is not dead nor godly sleep the wrong shall fail the right prevail with peace on earth good will to men till ringing singing on its way the world revolve from night to day a voice a chime a chance of life of peace on earth good will to men amen
