I see his hand of mercy, I hear his voice of cheer. And just the time I need him, he's always near. He lives, he lives, Christ Jesus lives today. He walks with me and talks with me along life's narrow way. He lives, he lives, salvation to impart. You ask me how I know he lives, he lives within my heart. In all the world around me I see his loving care. And though my heart grows weary, I never will despair. I know that he is leading through all the stormy blast. The day of his appearing will come at last. He lives, he lives, Christ Jesus lives today. He walks with me and talks with me along life's narrow way. He lives, he lives, salvation to impart. You ask me how I know he lives, he lives within my heart. Rejoice, rejoice, oh Christian, lift up your voice and sing. Jesus Christ the King, above all who seek him, the help of all who find. None other is so loving, so good and kind. He lives, he lives, Christ Jesus lives today. He walks with me and talks with me along life's narrow way. He lives, he lives, salvation to impart. You ask me how I know he lives, he lives within my heart. All right, let's open the service with a word of prayer. Heavenly Father, Lord, we just want to thank you, God, just for this beautiful Sunday morning that you've given us to meet in your house and to hear your word preached. I pray, Lord, now that you would just receive all the honor and glory out of everything that's said and done. And I pray that you be with our pastor, filled with your power and spirit force. In Jesus' name we ask all of it, amen. Are we seated? Are we seated? Are we seated? Are we seated? Are we seated? Are we seated? Are we seated? Are we seated? Are we seated? Are we seated? Are we seated? Are we seated? Are we seated? That's a good thing in the end, in the fact that we had a lot of conversations and all that, but we'll have to go back up there and hit a lot more of the area as well. Would you say, brother, that we hit half of it or do you think it's less than half? Would you say we got that north portion done? Or was that still a bunch? Okay. So I'd say another day we may be able to, and it depends on obviously the reception and how long we're spending at each door, but that being said, nine saved, and it was a good... The weather was a lot better this week than it was last week. Last week was the weirdest weather on that Saturday I've probably seen in a while where it's hailing one second, sunny the next, raining, then snowing, and so this Saturday was definitely a little better for that. So general church announcements, we do have our afternoon service at 4 p.m., so we're gonna have our fellowship and all that, but then we'll have the 4 p.m. service, and the sowing times, the regional sowing times are still as listed here, so Monday and Wednesday, brother Charles leads up the Monday and brother Richie leads up the Wednesday time there. And then our chapter memory, Colossians chapter 3, we are still in Colossians chapter 3 for our chapter memory, and I'm almost done with the chapter, but that last portion, it kind of starts breezing a little faster when you start getting into wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as is fit in the Lord. I feel like we've heard those verses over and over again, so those verses were a lot easier to get memorized, but John chapter 2 and verse 19, I want to make sure I don't mess up the beginning of it, but it's where it says destroy this temple and in three days I'll raise it again, and I want to make sure, I think it says any answered and said unto them. I know this is crucial for the verse memory here, but you want to get every, I don't want to mess it up here. But in John 2 and verse 19, Jesus answered and said unto them, Jesus answered and said unto them, destroy this temple and in three days I'll raise it again. And so that is our memory verse for the week. And upcoming events, we have prayer meetings, so that's what's on the upcoming events there is at the end of the month here we have the men's prayer meeting, and at the beginning of May we'll have the women's prayer meeting. And then birthdays. Do we have, well, Brother Nick's not here anyway, even though he was there, but I think it'll be next week. We'll have birthdays on there. But be in prayer for all the ladies on the pregnancy list. We have four ladies at the moment. We have Ginger, Catherine, Alyssa, and Rachel. And be in prayer for all the ladies again that just had little ones and the whole recovery process and all that, that goes on there. And just be in prayer for that. And even without the babies that haven't been born yet, we're past 50%. I think we're out so many last Sunday and someone asked, they said, do you have a lot of kids at your church? And I said, we've just gone over the 50% mark. So there's more kids than adults here. We're outnumbered. But it's a good thing. But if it's loud in here, that's why. Just know this, the mother baby room's a lot louder. At least I'm told. So but that being said, I think that's about all I got for announcements. The offering box is in the back there right by the door. If you want to give a tie to their offering, the mother baby room's behind the wall there. And that's for the mothers and babies only. And so again with the fellowship, we'll get into that. Did we get any games or anything like that? No games? So I probably should have mentioned that. So it's a big downer, right? The candy scramble. Yeah, we're gonna do a candy scramble at some point. Yeah, during when we're cleaning up after the fellowship. Is that just to get the kids out of the way? Okay. That's smart. I like that. I like where your head's at. So stick around. And then obviously if you need to go back home or something like that before the afternoon service, I completely understand. That's about all I got for announcements. And brother Dave's gonna come and sing one more song. And who's reading this morning? Yeah, he's not. Okay. So brother Anthony's gonna read Luke chapter 24 for us. Alright, take your song books and turn to song number 36. Song number 36 in your song books. We'll sing Christ Arose. Song number 36. Lo when the grave he lay Jesus my Savior waiting the coming day born up from the grave he arose with a mighty triumph over his foes he arose a victor from the dark domain and he lives forever with the saints to reign he arose he arose hallelujah Christ he arose vainly they watched his bed Jesus my Savior vainly they seal the dead Jesus my Lord up from the grave he arose with a mighty triumph a victor from the dark domain and he lives forever with the saints to reign he arose he arose hallelujah Christ arose death cannot keep his prey Jesus my Savior the bars away Jesus my Lord up from the grave he arose with a mighty triumph over his foes he arose a victor from the dark domain and he lives forever with the saints to reign he arose he arose hallelujah Christ arose all right take your Bibles and turn to Luke the book of Luke chapter number 24 Luke chapter number 24 and brother Anthony will come and read that for us Luke 24 the Bible reads now upon the first day of the week very early in the morning they came unto the sepulcher bringing the spices which they had prepared and certain others with them and they found the stone rolled away from the sepulcher and they entered in and found not the body of the Lord Jesus and it came to pass as they were much perplexed there about behold two men stood by them in shining garments and as they were afraid and bowed down their faces to the earth they said unto them why seek ye the living among the dead he is not here but is risen remember how he spake unto you when he was yet in Galilee saying the son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men and be crucified and the third day rise again and they remembered his words and returned from the sepulcher and told all these things unto the eleven and to all the rest it was Mary Magdalene and Joanna and Mary the mother of James and other women that were with them which told these things unto the apostles and their words seemed to them as idle tales and they believed them not then arose Peter and ran unto the sepulcher and stooping down he beheld the linen clothes laid by themselves and departed wondering in himself at that which was come to pass and behold two of them went that same day to a village called Emmaus which was from Jerusalem about three score furlongs and they talked together of all these things which had happened and it came to pass that while they communed together and reasoned Jesus himself drew near and went with them but their eyes were holding that they should not know him and he said unto them what manner of communications are these that ye have said that ye have one to another as ye walk and are sad and the one of them whose name was Cleopas answered said unto answering said unto him art thou only a stranger in Jerusalem and hast not known the things which are come to pass there in these days and they said unto them what things and he said unto them what things and they said unto him concerning Jesus of Nazareth which was a prophet mighty indeed and word before God and all the people and how the chief priests and our rulers delivered him to be condemned to death and have crucified him but we trusted that it had been he which should have redeemed Israel and beside all this today is the third day since these things were done ye and certain women also of our company made us astonished which were early at the sepulcher and when they found not his body they came saying that they had also seen a vision of angels which said that he was alive and certain of them which were with us went to the sepulcher and found it even so as the women had said but him they saw not then he said unto them oh fools and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken ought not Christ to have suffered these things and to enter into his glory and beginning at Moses and all the prophets he expounded unto them in all the scriptures these things concerning himself and they drew nigh unto the village whither they went and he made as though he would have gone further but they constrained him saying abide with us for it is toward evening and the day is far spent and he went in to tarry with them and it came to pass as he sat and meet with them he took bread and blessed it and break and gave to them and their eyes were opened and they knew him and he vanished out of their sight and they said one to another did not our heart burn within us while he talked with us by the way and while he opened to us the scriptures and they rose up the same hour and returned to Jerusalem and found the eleven gathered together and them that were with them saying the Lord is risen indeed and hath appeared to Simon and they told and they told what things were done in the way and how he was known of them in breaking of bread and as they thus spake Jesus himself stood in the midst of them and said unto them peace be unto you but they were terrified and frightened and supposed that they had seen a spirit and he said unto them why are you troubled and why do thoughts arise in your hearts behold my hands and my feet that it is I myself handle me and see me for a spirit hath not flesh and bones as ye see me have and when he had thus spoken he showed them his hands and his feet and while they yet believed not for joy and wondered he said unto them have ye here any meat and they gave him a piece of a broiled fish and of a honeycomb and he took it and did eat before them and he said unto them these are the words which I spake unto you while I was yet with you that all things must be fulfilled which were written in the law of Moses and in the prophets and in the psalms concerning me then opened he their understanding that they might understand the scriptures and he said unto them thus it is written and thus it is behold Christ to suffer and to rise from the dead the third day and that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in this name among all nations beginning at Jerusalem and ye are witness of these things and behold I send the promise of my father upon you but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem until ye be endued with power from on high and he led them out as far as Bethany and he lifted up his hands and blessed them and it came to pass while he blessed them he was parted from them and carried up into heaven and they worshipped him and returned to Jerusalem with great joy and were continually in the temple praising and blessing God. Amen. Lord thank you for this morning where we can gather here on Easter Sunday and hear your word preached I pray it should be with Pastor Robinson fill in with your Holy Spirit and help us all to learn this morning in Jesus name I pray. Amen. Amen. So you're there in Luke chapter 24 and I'm going to be preaching a sermon dealing with the bodily resurrection of Jesus so the bodily resurrection and obviously this is Easter Sunday and we're celebrating the resurrection of Jesus but I want to hit on a specific point here is that he resurrected bodily okay and it wasn't just a spirit and a soul that was resurrected and you know this is a doctrine that needs to be preached this is a doctrine that needs to be known because you know you have a couple religions that try to deny the bodily resurrection Jehovah witnesses are big ones that basically state that there wasn't an actual bodily resurrection and that it was just like a spiritual resurrection and then you have like Muslims and not every one of them that I run into but a lot of them that I've talked to they actually believe that Jesus the Jesus that is in heaven right now basically they switched places so whoever was killed on the cross was not the same Jesus that's in heaven now and basically they switched places and that basically someone else died and it wasn't actually Jesus or whatever okay so there's two types of doctrine there are two types of false doctrines there one is they're just saying that he didn't bodily raise from the dead that his body just basically you know completely disappeared and it's completely gone that's Jehovah witnesses but then you have the idea that you know basically it's not the same person that died that rose okay and so both those are false doctrines no Jesus actually died on the cross and the same body that died on the cross is the same body that's in heaven right now seated at the right hand of the father okay and so so bodily resurrection now you're in Luke chapter 24 we're gonna get back there but go to Matthew chapter 27 Matthew chapter 27 and I just I want you to see something that's brought up over and over again in all the gospels actually when it comes to the fact that his body is what was put in the tomb okay it was his body and it's very explicit to say that his body his body his body his body okay so I just want to make this point first of all is that it's very clear that the body was put into the tomb under the sepulcher and they rolled the stone over and Matthew 27 verse 57 it says when even was come there came a rich man of Arimathea named Joseph who also himself was Jesus' disciple he went to Pilate and begged the body of Jesus then Pilate commanded the body to be delivered and when Joseph had taken the body he wrapped it in a clean linen cloth and laid it in his own new tomb which he had hewn out of the rock and he rolled a great stone to the door of the sepulcher and departed and there was one Mary of Magdalene and the other Mary sitting over against the sepulcher so I want to make it very clear that it was his body that was taken down and put into the tomb not his spirit not his soul the Bible says that he gave up the ghost and he says father into thy hands I commend my spirit you know talking about the whole talking about he gave up the ghost he gave up the spirit right we know also that his soul was in hell for three days and three nights and he says that as Jonas was three days and three nights in the well's belly so shall the son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth so where clearly they didn't take his soul off the cross and put it into the tomb they didn't take his spirit off the cross and put it into the tomb they took his body off the cross and put it into the tomb okay and go to Mark chapter 15 so in this passage it says that Joseph of Arimathea begged the body of Jesus meaning that he's begging Pilate to give him the body and this may be repetitive but I just wanted to be very clear that this is not like some isolated incident that this happened or that they have any validity that it's not a body that's like in the tomb or that the body just disappeared or anything like that that's not what happened his body rose from the dead and he walked you know around and saw his disciples and appeared unto his disciples in that same body now obviously it's a spiritual body it's a glorious body it's a resurrected body so obviously there's differences to you know the body that he had than when he was resurrected you know that that's true but it's still the same body okay it's just a body that's been completely regenerated okay now in Mark chapter 15 and verse 43 it says Joseph of Arimathea an honorable counselor which also waited for the kingdom of God came and went in boldly unto Pilate and craved the body of Jesus and Pilate marveled if he were already dead and calling on him the centurion calling unto him the centurion he asked him whether he had been any while dead and when he knew it of the centurion he gave the body to Joseph and he bought fine linen and took him down and wrapped him in the linen and laid him in a sepulcher which was shewn out of the rock out of a rock and rolled a stone unto the door of the sepulcher and Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of Joseph beheld where he was laid where he was laid so here it's saying that he craved the body of Jesus he begged the body of Jesus in Matthew chapter 27 and that you know the whole point is that he even calls the centurion and says how you know is he dead you know like the idea is that he's stating you know he's already dead you know like trying to make sure that that he's not alive and that's a big point too when it comes to the resurrection that Jesus was dead okay he wasn't just unconscious right that's why I believe you know he was dead for three days and three nights the whole idea there is that it it shows also that he's really dead Anna Bell stop talking and sit back sorry that's the dad of me coming out so when it comes to this it's very clear that his body was dead okay his body was dead and even to the point where Pilate's confirming with the centurion so Pilate and the centurion aren't in this coup to like basically state okay you know we're trying to be on their side and we want this doctrine to be there that Jesus rose from the dead right there's no like conspiracy here where they're trying to do this you're talking about people that aren't believers right you know Pilate you know obviously he conversed with Jesus he didn't want to really put Jesus to death but he was you know basically pushed into it by peer pressure and not excusing it but at the same time you know he I don't believe is a believer and he's stating you know is he dead yes he's dead and they took his body and put it into a tomb you don't have to turn there I want you to go to Matthew chapter 19 but I'm gonna read Luke 23 just for good measure here Luke 23 and verse 52 it says this man went on to Pilate and begged the body of Jesus and he took it down and wrapped it in linen and laid it in a sepulcher that was shewn in stone wherein never man before was late do you see that every gospel mentions this every gospel mentions that his body was taken down after it was dead it's confirmed to be dead he's dead he's not unconscious he's dead and you say well how do you know he's dead well they did pierce him with a spear and blood and water came out so they were confirming that he was dead and the centurion goes over to him and says yeah he's dead you know the idea here is that there's no doubt that he's dead and there's no doubt that the body was put into the tomb the physical body of Jesus was put into the tomb and it's very clear that when we're talking about him coming out of the tomb the idea that his body wouldn't be coming out of the tomb is ridiculous that that wouldn't be part of the resurrection but I'm going to show you verses that obviously are foolproof verses that it's a bodily resurrection but I just want you to see how ridiculous and how basically you'd have to just deny all these passages in the Bible just deny the whole story of the resurrection to state that it's not a bodily resurrection in John chapter 19 verse 38 John chapter 19 verse 38 it says and after this Joseph of Arimathea being a disciple of Jesus but secretly for fear of the Jews sought Pilate that he might take away the body of Jesus and Pilate gave him leave he came therefore and took the body of Jesus and there came also Nicodemus which at the first came to Jesus by night and brought a mixture of myrrh and aloes about a hundred pound weight then took they the body of Jesus and wound it and wound it in linen claws with the spices as the man of the Jews is to bury now in the place where he was crucified there was a garden and in the garden a new sepulcher wherein was never man yet laid there lay they Jesus therefore because of the Jews preparation day for the sepulcher was nigh at hand so you see three times the body of Jesus the body of Jesus the body of Jesus okay to think that this is a different person right that goes to the cross like the Muslims think that they switch places obviously they're just stating that the Bible is in error right that's what they do when it comes to anything in the Bible they just say well if it doesn't match with the Quran then it's just wrong you know but you know the Quran was written by a pedophile so I think I'm going to go with the Bible and not the Quran and second of all the idea here is that you just have to completely just annihilate the gospel the whole idea here is that it's very clear that Jesus went to the cross he was sweating as it were great drops of blood in the garden of Gethsemane before he went to the cross he was scourged he was beaten nowhere in there does it say like oh I'm switching places with some other guy and obviously they're trying to deny this because well first of all they deny that Jesus is God and that's a big thing that you have to understand is that it's not just a man that was going to the cross it was a man who is God God in the flesh that went to the cross and died on the cross and so I just want to make that very clear that the body the body was in the tomb furthermore those that were enemies of the gospel and enemies of Christ knew that the body was put there knew that it was the same body because notice what it says in Matthew 27 to the point where they're just like we want to make sure they don't steal away the body and say that he rose from the dead like it's like everybody at that time knows that the resurrection means the body is going to raise right that the body is the crucial thing that's happening here that's being raised from the dead because listen before Jesus rose from the dead before he came to this earth people that were believers they'd be they'd go to heaven they would go you know ascend into heaven by angels I mean Lazarus was carried by angels and that happened before you have this bodily resurrection and so and people that die today people that die in the Lord today to be absent from the body to be present with the Lord and so this wouldn't be some miraculous event if we're just talking about some spiritual resurrection right and and also we're going to be getting to as well because our bodies will be resurrected as well okay so this is the first fruits of the resurrection and then there's going to be the resurrection at his coming now Matthew chapter 27 verse 62 it says the next day that followed the day of the preparation the chief priests and Pharisees came together unto Pilate saying sir we remember that that deceiver said while he was yet alive after three days I will rise again now one thing I want to mention here is that these people weren't ignorant the people that had Jesus put to death the Jews the Pharisees the chief priests they want to claim ignorance they are saying after he died we know that he said that he would rise again do you see how it's very clear that they knew what was going on they knew what he said he would do even though they tried to like get false witness and they're just like well he's saying he's going to destroy the temple and then he's going to build it in three days and they're just all over the place they know that what he said was after three days he's going to rise again and they're trying to make sure that there's nothing that's going to cause that to happen or cause anybody to think that that happens or anything like that verse 64 it says command therefore that the sepulchre be made sure until the third day lest his disciples come by night and steal him away and say unto the people he is risen from the dead so the last error shall be worse than the first Pilate said unto them ye have a watch go your way make it as sure as you can so they went and made the sepulchre sealing the stone and setting a watch so this is really if you think about it everything is against Jesus being risen from the dead right as far as like no one here is trying to help this out like if you think of like Pilate and the centurion it's not like they're in it and try no they're like he's dead you know it's very clear that he's dead and they take then they allow him to take the body then when it comes to the sepulchre you have the chief priests and the Pharisees that are stating you know what we know that this deceiver right they're calling Jesus a deceiver which obviously in the Talmud they still say today that he's a deceiver and all that but you know they're wicked so the thing is here is that they are stating we're gonna put a watch on there we're gonna make sure that like there's Roman soldiers that are guarding this thing so that no one can come by and just take his body out and say that he rose from the dead okay so it's actually you know one of those things where I believe God sets things up to make it just fool proof right you think about the immutability of God's counsel and the mutability of you know obviously things that he does he's putting everything against basically like all the power that they have to try to disprove and try to stop this resurrection God's allowing them to try it right and it's like I was saying you know make it as sure as you can I love that you know it's like make it as sure as you can it's like yeah go for it you know try to make it sure because it wouldn't matter what type of lock you put on that thing and what type of watch you put over that you could have the whole Roman army watching over that thing and you know what Jesus is gonna raise from the dead and nothing's gonna stop that okay so so we know that the body of Jesus that was on the cross is the same body that was put into the tomb very clear it's a body okay and that not only that but even the enemies of Christ knew that the body was in the tomb and they wanted to make sure that the body stayed in the tomb okay now then it states in Luke go to Luke chapter 24 Luke chapter 24 that when it says that Jesus wasn't found it's very clear that his body was not found okay so when you're talking about the resurrection when you're talking about this whole story the big thing that you're understanding here is that they didn't find his body in the tomb and notice what it says in Luke chapter 24 and verse 1 Luke chapter 24 and verse 1 it says now upon the first day of the week very early in the morning they came unto the sepulcher bringing the spices which they had prepared and certain others with them and they found the stone rolled away from the sepulcher and they entered in and found not notice this the body of the Lord Jesus it's very clear that it's stating like the body do you see how this is very consistent the body was taken off the cross the body was wrapped in linen the body was was you know basically given after they said that the body was dead then they said the body's in the tomb and make sure you put a watch over that tomb and then when they get to the tomb the body was not found so tell me that I'm not supposed to believe in a bodily resurrection or that that the Bible would anyway support anything other than a bodily resurrection okay now I'm not even getting to the big stuff I'm just making this very clear that when you read the gospels about his resurrection his death resurrection the body's brought up a lot this isn't in a corner this is like well I got one verse over here we're talking about the body in the tomb it's just over and over and over again it says in verse 4 it says and it came to pass as they were much perplexed there about behold two men stood by them in shining garments and as they were afraid and bowed down their faces to the earth they said unto them why seek ye the living among the dead he is not here but he is risen now when you think of that phrase and that's obviously a very famous phrase he is not here or he is risen right and by the way our neighboring church over here has a sign and I don't know about you but I laughed at this listen I know it's a bible verse but I'm not going to put that up on my church that says he is not here okay do you understand how I laughed so hard at that and I don't know why but it was hilarious to me okay it said he is not here he is risen and I'm like you just put on your church sign he is not here okay but we're talking about obviously the tomb he's not here he is risen anyway sorry that's a side note that's a commercial break but I'm not saying you know that it's not a bad word to put on or but I just wouldn't do it anyway he is not here he is risen now when it says that what are we talking about well it just got done saying that his body was not found that's what they're looking for and they're saying he's not here he is risen would that make sense to say well I'm talking about a soul I'm talking about a spirit no the reason that that would make any sense or make sense with the whole context is the fact that they're talking about the body the body is risen okay now obviously the soul and the spirit that's obviously the soul was risen as well I'm not discrediting that that's another sermon for another day but what I'm really focusing in on here is that the body is risen it says he is not here but is risen remember how he spake unto you when he was yet in Galilee saying the son of man must be delivered into the hands of simple men and be crucified and the third day rise again okay so obviously this is all fulfilling this and go to John chapter 20 John chapter 20 John chapter 20 just to show you another place or another passage where it's talking about they're looking for the body and they're not finding it but then obviously they find Jesus later on he's alive in verse 11 it says but Mary stood without at the sepulcher weeping as she went or I'm sorry weeping and as she wept she stooped down and looked into the sepulcher and see two angels in white sitting the one at the head and the other at his feet where the body of Jesus had lain okay so the point here is that it's not there anymore it says in verse 13 so basically she thinks that someone took the body and took it somewhere right and she's weeping because of that but the whole point here is that she's looking for the body and then it says in verse 14 and when she had thus said she turned herself back and saw Jesus standing and knew not that it was Jesus Jesus saith unto her, Woman, why weepest thou? whom seekest thou? she supposing him to be the gardener saith unto him, Sir, if thou have borne him hence tell me where thou hast laid him and I will take him away Jesus saith unto her, Mary she turned herself and said unto him, Rabboni which is to say, Master now the rest of this story which is really kind of dealing with another subject but she tries to embrace him and he says I've not yet ascended unto the Father meaning that this all goes into the fact that he needs to take the blood up to the mercy seat that's in heaven and obviously he needs to be that high priest that is basically going in there with that blood and so I believe this is before he actually ascends up to the Father and does that and Mary Magdalene, it's very clear Mary Magdalene is the first to see Jesus the Bible just explicitly says that she's the first to see Jesus but if you're dealing with a spirit here when she goes to embrace him it wouldn't make any sense if you're dealing with some like ghost or specter, you know that he'd be like, don't touch me if he's not a physical body, okay now go to John chapter 2 and this is our memory verse so let's get into some verses that are just really, that was all groundwork to just show you that in context would anybody read that and say no, it wasn't bodily resurrection like no sane person that's reading that that's looking at that honestly would say that the body wasn't taken off the cross the body wasn't put into the tomb the body wasn't secured by his enemies and that the body was what wasn't found and the body is what raised from the dead, okay but let me just show you some verses that explicitly state that his body is going to be risen from the dead, okay John chapter 2 and verse 19, this is our memory verses, verse 19 it says, Jesus answered and said unto them destroy this temple and in three days I will raise it up and then said the Jews, forty and six years was this temple in building and Wiltow reared it up in three days so they thought that he was talking about the physical temple that they're standing in, right but in verse 21 it says, but he spake of the temple of his body the temple of his body so when it says, destroy this temple what is he saying, destroy this body and in three days I will raise it up so there's two things to see here is that, one he's talking about his body being raised up, his body is going to be raised from the dead, two it says, I will raise it up Jesus you know, he says, I have power to lay down my life and I have power to take it again so and obviously the father raised up the Lord Jesus, but the Holy Ghost also raised up, you know, by the spirit talks about how he was raised from the dead that's because the whole trinity was involved there Jesus himself raised himself up from the grave, the father, so the father, son, Holy Ghost were all a part of him raising from the dead but here's a great verse to show you that Jesus is saying, I will raise it up and also that it's the body that's being raised up, okay, so that's a great verse, I think that's, if I was just, you say, well, where would you go to prove the bodily resurrection? I'd probably go there first because it's so simple right, it's like, destroy this temple in three days, I'll raise it up he's making the temple of his body boom you know, that's, that's, that's just nailing the coffin, I mean, it's just, that is what it is, in verse 22 it says, when therefore he was risen from the dead, his disciples remembered that he had said this unto them and they believed the scripture and the word which Jesus had said, so they're looking back obviously and they're just like, whoa, you know, he said this, he said this, he said this and there it all fit together, now I believe obviously with his disciples, they were believers minus Judas, they were believers and they were saved but God or Jesus was kind of hiding this from their eyes a little bit and then after his resurrection it says that he opened their understanding so that they can just see all the details and see how it played out, because people in the Old Testament that believed on Christ they didn't know all the details, I don't think, you know when it comes to like exactly what he had to do, I think they believed that he would pay for their sins and that he would be the propitiation for their sins but as far as like exactly what had to be done I don't believe that was that was really revealed until after his resurrection even to the disciples that he was with during that time because when did the New Testament start? At the death of Christ, right? It says that you know, the death of the testator is when the testament had power and at that point and at his resurrection it talks about him opening their understanding to the scriptures so that they can understand it, so go back to Luke chapter 24 so that's a great verse, John chapter 2 that destroyed this temple and in three days I'll raise it again it says but he spake of the temple of his body that's something that's actually used a lot in the New Testament dealing with your body and how we'll call it a tabernacle, it says I must put off this my tabernacle Peter talks about in 2 Peter talking about his deceased, it says after my deceased, so he's talking about the body and dealing with the resurrection and all that stuff, a lot of times it'll talk about this house, this building you know, tabernacle temple we are the temple of the Holy Ghost so your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost on and on, right? So Luke chapter 24 and verse 36 if I was going to go to another place that explicitly states that he's in a body and that he's not like a ghost or just some spirit is a place where it literally says that he's not like just a spirit, okay? So Luke 24 and verse 36 Luke 24 and verse 36 it says as they thus spake, Jesus himself stood in the midst of them and saith unto them, peace be unto you, but they were terrified and affrighted and suppose that they had seen a spirit well I think that's where the Jehovah Witnesses stopped reading and they're just like, well I guess he's a spirit you know I guess when they saw Jesus walking on water and they suppose it was a spirit then they stopped reading there too, I don't know but notice what it says here it says in verse 38 and he said unto them, why are you troubled? And why do thoughts arise in your hearts? Behold my hands and my feet that it is I myself handle me and see for a spirit hath not flesh and bones as you see me have well tell me again that that's not a bodily resurrection when he's literally saying I'm not a spirit because a spirit doesn't have flesh and bones he literally had flesh and bones and he says handle me that means basically take a hold of me and see and it says and when he had thus spoken he showed them his hands and his feet now let me ask you a question Muslims he's going to show them his hands and his feet where he was nailed to the cross how is this a different person right because they want to say well the person that's resurrected, the Jesus that's resurrected that's not the same Jesus that was killed, right they switched places this sounds like something that like a little kid would make up like this isn't even an intelligent argument right I feel I kind of feel dumb even bringing up their argument because they're just it's just stupidity because it's not found anywhere and they're just making it up it's just like oh let's make up some reason why it's you know not the same person right because they don't want to believe that that someone raised from the dead because they're going to say that Muhammad is even better even though Muhammad's dead and in hell by the way so and by the way that's the big difference here's a big difference between Christianity and every other religion that our savior died for us first of all because you won't find that in any other religion where their prophet or whatever actually takes their sin upon them and this is the only one the only religion the only belief where they're actually still alive and they're actually physically still alive today that's the difference and if you want to say well how do you know which one's right well the truth is always going to stand out and obviously faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God when I read the Bible I'm like there's power on every page when I read the Quran you know if they ever have a toilet paper shortage I know what I'm going to use and I'm not joking about that I mean it is hard to read to be honest with you not not that the vocabulary is bad it's just rough because it's just poor literature but on top of that blasphemy is my savior so it's a wicked book just like the Book of Mormon and just like the Watchtower and everything else when it comes to these false religions that are attacking the resurrection and make no mistake they're attacking the resurrection and the resurrection that is the pivotal point of the whole Bible the death barrel resurrection the gospel that is the pivotal point that's what everything from the Old Testament is pointing to and everything after is pointing back to and I'll show you that even in the end we're going to remember that that's something that was done okay now in verse where did I stop at? I got off on a tangent there go to verse 40 there so you're in Luke 24 and verse 40 it says and when he had thus spoken he showed them his hands and his feet and while they yet believed not for joy and wondered he said unto them have ye here any meat now when it says they believed not for joy it doesn't mean that they didn't believe it it's just more like it's unbelievable you know when you say this is unbelievable it's just that they're so happy that it's like I can't believe it like it's almost like too good to be true that's what that's kind of talking about this is too good to be true and just utter unbelief as far as like that this actually happened now in verse 42 it says and they gave him a piece of a broiled fish and a honeycomb and he took it and did eat before them so on top of them like handling him and like seeing the prints of the nails in his hand and his feet it also you know basically shows you that he's eating something right he's literally eating something and you never see those cartoons where a ghost eats something and it just falls through them you know like it's kind of like I'm not saying that that's what he was referencing here but I'm just saying like it's kind of like that thing where you would think okay if you're eating something you're physically here like you're not just a ghost because if it's a specter it's a spirit or it's a ghost or whatever then whatever they were trying to put in their mouth would just fall through that spiritual realm because there's a difference between physical realm and metaphysics which is dealing with you know spiritual realm okay those are two different realms the physical realm and the spiritual realm okay and both exist but it's just the fact that in this we have this body that essentially is both in the physical realm and the spiritual realm right it's a spiritual body because we know there's a natural body and there's a spiritual body and one day we're going to have a spiritual body too but this spiritual body has physical attributes to it even though the doors are all shut and then he just appears there right so obviously there's some spiritual application there but go to John chapter 20 John chapter 20 to give you another place where we're clearly dealing with a physical body I think that's like if you were to say well what's your two big verses to say that Jesus was bodily resurrected I'd go to John chapter 2 and say you know destroy this temple and in three days I will raise it up and he spake at the temple of his body I think that's just like the simple boom like two verses will get you to where what are you going to say to that then you go to this verse Luke chapter 24 where it's literally saying that I'm not a spirit I'm flesh and bones okay I think that's pretty good okay and this is right after the resurrection so I don't know how you deny that John chapter 20 kind of just is complimentary to this because now we're going to deal with Thomas okay so remember Thomas he wasn't there when he first appeared unto the rest of the disciples and he's known as doubting Thomas right and this is where he kind of gets that moniker of doubting Thomas in verse 24 it says but Thomas one of the twelve called Didymus was not with them when Jesus came and other disciples therefore said unto him we have seen the Lord but he said unto them except I shall see in his hands the print of the nails and put my finger into the print of the nails and thrust my hand into his side I will not believe okay so he's basically he's got this ultimatum that he's putting up there he's like unless I can like put my finger into his hands and you know basically put my hand into his side he's like I'm not going to believe now if that was the spirit do you see how ridiculous that would be he's basically saying I need to physically touch the wound where the nail went into his hands and where they pierced his side also Jehovah witnesses notice that it says in his hands the print of the nails now you say what are you talking about they don't believe that Jesus was crucified on a cross they believe he was crucified on a stake and they believe that his hands were up here and it was like one nail through both hands and then you know and that's another sermon for another day as far as that it was definitely a cross we're dealing with the Romans that's how they crucify people but notice that it's nails meaning that it was more than one nail put into his hands meaning that there was a nail in this hand a nail in this hand and you know just a verse there that I haven't heard a Jehovah witness ever answer when it comes to this but like brother Ritchie said they think they're Romanians not Romans that were killing Jesus the Romanians used stakes the Romans used crosses and by the way the Bible uses a lot of times the term tree that he was hanged upon a tree I don't know about you but a lot of times when I see a big stump sticking out of the ground I don't call it a tree a tree usually has branches on it okay and I think that that has a lot of validity to it and even the term where that's talking about like cursed is everyone that hangeth on a tree it's talking about hanging okay meaning like obviously hanging by the neck in the Old Testament they would say take the body down you know so it doesn't stay on all night you see how that correlates obviously with Jesus being taken down before the night was come but anyway all I have to say is that this is a great verse to also show you that he had two nails meaning one nail in each hand and it wasn't just a single nail in his hands and anyway so I'm just really I'm really hitting after the Jehovah Witness but really Jehovah Witness is the big ones that deny the bodily resurrection okay let's just be very clear obviously a lot of people don't even know that the Muslims think that it's a different person you know that he basically just translated into heaven and someone else died in his place but it says in verse 20 where did I have you on verse verse 26 it says and after eight days again his disciples were within and Thomas with them then came Jesus the doors being shut and stood in the midst and said peace be unto you then saith he to Thomas reach hither thy finger and behold my hands and reach hither thy hand and thrust it into my side and be not faithless but believing so Jesus took him up on that right he's like I gotta put my finger into the print of his hands and I need to thrust my hand into his side now I personally you know just don't I believe that Thomas is just like okay I don't need to do that okay but because it doesn't say he actually did it but Jesus is just like alright put your finger into my the print of my hands and put and thrust your hand into my side and it says and Thomas answered and said unto him my Lord and my God which is also a great passage to show you that Thomas you know it's not like he thought that Jesus was just some good person or just some good prophet we're talking about God in the flesh we're talking about the Son of Man the Son of God and he's saying my Lord and my God Jesus saith unto him Thomas because thou has seen me thou has believed blessed are they that have not seen and yet have believed so Thomas was you know that's where he gets that term doubting Thomas is that he had to see it for himself before he believed it and you know going into that idea there of like he needed to physically handle him now go to 1 John chapter 1 1 John chapter 1 and there's a verse in here and I want you this verse I think will help you when you're dealing with the resurrection here that it'll help you understand what it meant by this in 1 John 1 meaning this is that in Luke 24 it says handle me and see and basically he's telling Thomas he's like go ahead put your finger into my my hand thrust your hand into my side and in 1 John 1.1 notice what it says that which was from the beginning which we have heard which we have seen with our eyes which we have looked upon, notice this and our hands have handled of the word light they handled him, they held onto him 1 John was the disciple whom Jesus loved and he literally was leaning on Jesus breast at the last supper if you will at the Lord's supper when they were keeping the Passover and they were doing that supper that is stating like we touched him we handled him and if anything they handled him after the resurrection because he literally said handle me and see and notice that it says of the word of light the word of light was handled by because in the beginning was the word and the word was with God and the word was God and in him was life and the life was the light of men and the word was made flesh and dwelled among us and beheld his glory the glory of the only begotten of the father full of grace and truth so that's what we're talking about here and I hope that I think that will help you understand too that you're dealing with the hands have handled and John was one of those that literally handled the savior at his resurrection not only eyewitness accounts of the resurrection not only eyewitnesses they're handling accounts I don't know if that's a word that's a term that you could use but they like were witnesses by handling by physically touching him okay now how about this in Revelation go to Revelation chapter 5 and actually I want you to go just for sake of time here go to Acts chapter 2 I'm just gonna mention this to you Revelation chapter 5 states this that when John sees this vision about the future and sees what's in heaven that it says this in Revelation 5 6 it says and I beheld and lo in the midst of the throne and of the four beasts and in the midst of the elders stood a lamb as it had been slain having seven horns and seven eyes which are the seven spirits of God sent forth into all the earth you know what when he rose from the dead and he said and he showed him the prince in his hands and the you know basically the wound on the side I believe that's gonna be there forever I mean you're dealing with the resurrected state of the Lord Jesus and even in Revelation 5 I mean you're dealing with way after the resurrection and all that and even so you're dealing with the lamb opening up these seals that haven't even happened yet right so the lamb it says when he saw the lamb is that it had if it had been slain okay so you know to think that it's a different person than that was there on the cross is ridiculous just utter ridiculous you just have to deny the whole Bible to say that that's true cause Jesus is the lamb slain from the foundation of the world but it says he was before or deigned before the foundation of the world but was manifesting these last times for you right because obviously God regarded Jesus as being slain even from the foundation of the world before the foundation of the world because he knew that he would do it he knew that it would be accomplished and he obviously people were saved by the blood of the lamb from the very beginning but you know obviously 2000 years ago is when he actually in our timeline came in and did it but I just kind of want to give you that and you can read Revelation 5 but it says in that same passage he's the lion of the tribe of Judah but it's not this idea that while he was the lamb and now he's the lion he's both in that passage it says the lion of the tribe of Judah had prevailed to open up the book and then it says that he saw a lamb as if it had been slain to take the book and it's the lamb that's basically opening the book and it's also the they're hiding from the wrath of the lamb later on okay so he's always going to be the lamb of God he's also always going to be the lion of the tribe of Judah okay so but Acts 2 and one thing I want to state here is that another very important point is that the scripture for the scripture to be fulfilled is that his body did not see corruption okay so the idea of him not raising from the dead bodily would go against all these scriptures now let me just show you where it states it's Acts chapter 2 Acts chapter 2 and verse 25 it says for David speaketh concerning him I foresaw the Lord always before my face for he is on my right hand that I should not be moved therefore did my heart rejoice and my tongue was glad moreover also my flesh shall rest in hope because thou wilt not leave my soul in hell neither wilt thou suffer thine holy one to see corruption so when it states this this is coming from Psalm 16 he's just quoting it that David wrote this and foresaw Jesus right and it it's really showing you that when it says thou wilt not leave my soul in hell it's not David saying it's not talking about David's soul okay it's talking about Jesus and when it's talking about you know that he will not suffer thine holy one to see corruption he's not talking about David he's talking about Christ so let's keep reading here because literally it just takes you step by step to help you understand that this is what it's talking about but in verse 28 it says thou hast made known to me the ways of life thou shalt make me full of joy with thy countenance so basically if you go to Psalm 16 which you don't have to for the sake of time here but if you went back there you'd see this is where this is quoted at and Peter is preaching stating that David in the sake of Jesus and this is where he was speaking of him and then he's going to explain it says in verse 29 men and brethren let me freely speak unto you of the patriarch David that he is both dead and buried and his sepulcher is with us unto this day now why is he stating that? because he's making a point that this verse in Psalm 16 about his soul being in hell and not suffering corruption it's not talking about David it can't be talking about David why because he's dead and buried so it says here in verse 30 therefore being a prophet and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him that of the fruit of his loins according to the flesh he would raise up Christ to sit on his throne now when you look that up in Psalm 110 it says that the Lord swear that he of the fruit of the seed of David would sit on his throne, meaning the Lord so God is going to sit on his throne because Jesus is God but it says in verse 31 he's seeing this before, spake of the resurrection of Christ, so when it says that will not leave my soul in hell, neither will I suffer that holy one of corruption, what's he talking about? the resurrection it says he's seeing this before, spake of the resurrection of Christ, that his soul was not left in hell neither his flesh did see corruption, this Jesus had God raised up, whereof we all are witnesses, what's being raised up? well the soul and the body right? because the soul is not left in hell the flesh isn't seeing corruption do you see that? it's very clear and then it says therefore being by the right hand of God, exalted and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost he has shed forth this which ye now see and hear for David is not ascended into the heavens but he saith himself the Lord said unto my Lord, sit thou on my right hand until I make thy foes thy footstool so it's just kind of reiterating that David saw corruption but when it's talking about him ascending it's not talking about him not going to heaven it's saying that his body didn't ascend it says no man has ascended up to heaven but he that came down from heaven, even the son of man which is in heaven, and when it says that it's not saying well no one's ever gone to heaven it's saying no one has bodily ascended to heaven yet the only person to bodily ascend to heaven right now is Jesus he's the only one, everybody else that's there is souls it's the spirits of just men made perfect it's the souls of men and they aren't in their spiritual bodies yet right? obviously they're having a good time, I'm sure it's great in heaven but we're still waiting on the physical resurrection go to Acts chapter 13 I just want to nail this point down really clearly here that the one scripture that's mentioned a lot is Psalm 16 that's why it's always interesting to me when people are like I can't believe Jesus went to hell, you're saying Jesus went to hell? well first of all, I didn't say it, the Bible said it it's very clear that it's stating when it says that thou wilt not lead my soul in hell that's talking about Christ and then it says in the same turn talking about the flesh not seeing corruption you say well, would you preach that out solely? Peter did they won thousands of people to the Lord so obviously I don't think you have to mention every little detail if you went out solely and you didn't mention that it's death and resurrection obviously I think that's fine but if you want to mention the mercy seat and him sprinkling the blood on the mercy seat for the atonement for your sins and that's part of what he did great! I'm not against you but at the same time, to think that this shouldn't be preached well you shouldn't mention that why? Peter did actually, Paul does in that portion of the scripture but he does bring up Psalm 16 the reason I think he doesn't bring up his soul being left in hell is because that's not what he's talking about the whole point of what he's talking about here is the body so that's where you'd be really focused in on and that's what I'm focused in on right now is that the body didn't see corruption verse 29 Acts 13 verse 29 says when they had fulfilled all that was written of him they took him down from the tree and laid him in a sepulcher this is a place where he uses the term tree instead of cross it says but God raised him from the dead and it says and he was seen many days of them which came up with him from Galilee to Jerusalem who are his witnesses unto the people and we declare unto you glad tidings how that the promise which was made unto the fathers God hath fulfilled the same unto us their children and that he hath raised up Jesus again as it is also written in the second psalm thou art my son this day I have begotten so that's very clear that when it says thou art my son this day I have begotten him we're talking about the resurrection okay he's the first begotten from the dead okay so then it says in verse 34 and that's concerning that he raised him from the dead so just in case just in case you don't know that's what he's talking about now no more to return to corruption he said on this wise I will give you the sure mercies of David wherefore he saith also in another psalm thou shalt not suffer thine holy one to see corruption now do you see he's talking about another psalm he's talking about psalm 16 and that portion where it says that will not suffer thine holy one to see corruption and he's stating here that concerning that he had raised him up from the dead so what are we talking about raising the dead no more to return to corruption thou shalt not suffer thine holy one to see corruption notice in verse 36 for David after he had served his own generation by the will of God fell on sleep and was laid unto his fathers and saw corruption so this is kind of going back to Acts chapter 2 where he's stating that this isn't talking about David because David his sepulcher is with us unto this day he saw corruption but it says in verse 37 but he whom God raised again saw corruption do you see how it's very clear and when you think about this why was it three days and not more well remember Lazarus how long was he dead four days and what did I think it was Martha or Mary I'm going to mess that up but I think it's Martha that said by this time he's stinking you know what that means he's starting to decompose okay and it's basically getting to the idea that after three days the decomposition, the corruption if you will, is starting to take place in the body meaning it's starting to deteriorate it shows you that obviously Jesus he could raise up someone that's completely like just bones right now if he wanted to that doesn't matter but the point is that Jesus didn't see corruption he didn't start decomposing his body was raised before it ever saw any corruption and lastly here go to Philippians chapter 3 so I hope you have some some ammunition if you're ever having to defend the fact that Jesus rose from the dead bodily John 2 is a great place Luke 24, John 20 I think Acts 2 and 13 are great ones too I think they're a little longer I think you're going to if you're having a bible study about it I guess with somebody and you're just like alright let's really I'm going to show you all these other passages but a lot of times when it comes to like if I'm out at the door I'm not going to go through a big dissertation on this I'm just going to show them those words and they don't if they don't believe it then you know I don't know if they're going to believe it when you go into this as well but Philippians chapter 3 and verse 20 I think this is great proof too that it was a bodily resurrection because notice what it says in verse 20 for our conversation is in heaven from whence also we look for the Savior the Lord Jesus Christ who shall change our vile body that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body according to the working whereby he is able even to do all things unto himself now I'm going to give you that one verse I'm not going to go through all the other verses where it talks about us being like him and all that as far as resurrection but how would that make sense that our vile bodies that we have now are going to be changed like unto his glorious body if he doesn't have a body like if he doesn't have a resurrected body that we're going to be like unto you see what I'm getting at here is that it wouldn't make any sense at all and there's so many scriptures on the resurrection from Romans 8 to other places that deal with the fact that like Christ was raised from the dead physically so our bodies will be also and it's going to be in like manner it's going to be like that which also shows you that we're going to eat so I know the Bible says that you know as far as like Revelation it talks about eating the fruit off the tree of life and all that but he ate a fish and honey and if there's anything to rejoice about when it comes to the resurrection is that we still get to eat food but I think the nice thing about eating food when you have a resurrected body is that you don't have to worry about getting fat so you know you got to look at the silver lining obviously there's silver linings all over the place when it comes to you know when we're in heaven or we're living with Christ forever but in all seriousness when it comes to this bodily resurrection I mean that is quintessential to the gospel if someone denies the bodily resurrection they're not saved okay to think that that that they're just like no it was just the spirit you're denying the fact that he rose from the dead I mean do you see how much scripture you'd have to deny especially if you went through all that with them and they're just like no it's not bodily because he that is of God heareth God's words you therefore hear them not because you're not of God you know it's very clear that that you know someone that that that saved or someone that's going to get saved is going to understand that because that's very simple okay that's bottom shelf you know and when it comes to the gospel the death mental resurrection the death burial and resurrection what are you specifically talking about there the death of the body the burial and the resurrection of the body right and I'm not against getting into like his soul being in hell and his soul being made an offering for sin and getting into those details right but surface level they were talking about his body dying his body being put into the tomb and his body raising from the dead and ever liveth to make intercession for us I mean that is what we're dealing with here so I think it's an important doctrine I think it's something that obviously we're celebrating today and praise the Lord for it to be in that day when Jesus rose from the dead and to be able to witness that imagine like I said you know they were in unbelief for joy right you can imagine how much joy you'd have to see that now in our day you know we're looking for the second coming and you know obviously you have the great tribulation that has to happen first and then you know Christ coming in the clouds but that that is something that I think will be kind of like on par with seeing him coming the first time and seeing that and then seeing him come in the clouds and you know being there and you know says lift up your head and look up for your redemption draw an eye and so I think that that would be a great time to live in even though there's hard times to come so yeah so the bodily resurrection if you have any questions about that or if you want some more verses on that let me know but let's end with a word of prayer and I'm going to go ahead and pray for the food too that we're going to eat I don't know if we got a broiled fish and a honeycomb but that would be cool that would be very pertinent but no I'm going to pray for the food as well so we kind of we can just eat whenever we get it and all that stuff so dear only father we thank you for today and thank you for rising from the dead thank you for first of all dying on the cross for our sins and that you paid for all of our sins and our punishment and Lord that you were victorious that you rose again and that you have the keys of hell and of death and Lord just pray that you'd be with us today with the fellowship and just pray that you'd let us have a good time of fellowship and bless the food that we're going to eat and just help us to be glorifying to you and just thank you for a beautiful Sunday that we can celebrate you raising from the dead and Lord we love you and pray all this in Jesus Christ's name Amen Brother Dave's going to come and sing one more song and that will be dismissed and again remember you want to kind of take all your belongings up so they don't get shuffled around when we go to move all the tables and all that stuff in here Alright take your song books and turn to song number three song number three in your song books and if you would stand we'll sing Jesus paid it all song number three I hear the Savior say thy strength indeed is small child of weakness watch and pray find in me thine all and all Jesus paid it all all to Him I own sin had left a crimson stain He washed it white as snow Lord now indeed I find thy power and thine alone can change the leper's spots and mount the heart of stone Jesus paid it all all to Him I own sin had left a crimson stain He
