chapter before Mark chapter before in your Bibles we'll have brother David come up here and read that for us mark for if you found your place amen and the Bible reads and he began again to teach by the seaside and there was gathering to him a great multitude that he entered into a sip and sat in the sea and the whole multitude is by the sea on the land and he taught them many things by parables and said and said unto them in his doctrine harken behold the went out of sorrow to serve and they came to pass as he showed some fell by the wayside and the fowls of the air came devoured it up and some fell on stony ground where had not much earth and immediately it sprang up because it had no depth of earth when the Sun was up it was cursed and because I had no root it with it away and some fell among thorns and the thorns grew up and choked it and it yielded no fruit another fell on good ground and did yield fruit that sprang up and increased and brought birth some 30 some 60 and some hundred and he said to them he that hath an ear to ear let him hear and when he was alone they asked they that were about him with the twelve asked him of the parable and he said unto them under you it is given to know the mystery of the kingdom of God but under them that are without all these things are done in parables that seeing they may see and not perceive and hearing they may hear and not understand as to any time they speak inverted and the sins that be forgiven them and he said unto them no you not this parable and how then will you know all parables the sorrow so at the word and these are they by the wayside where the word is sown but when they have heard Satan cometh immediately and take it the way the word that was sown in their hearts and these are they likewise which are sown on stony ground who when they are heard the word immediately receive it with gladness and have no root in themselves and so endure but for a time afterward when affliction or persecution arises for the word's sake immediately they are offended and these are they which are sown among thorns such as hear the word and the cares of this world and the deceitfulness of riches and the lusts and the lusts of other things entering in choked the word and it cometh unfruitful and these are they which are sown on good ground such as hear the word and receive it and bring her through some 34 some 60 and some 100 and he said unto them is a candle brought to be put under a bushel or under a bed and not to be set on a candlestick there is nothing here that shall not be manifested neither was anything kept secret but that is to come abroad if any man have ears to hear let him hear and he said unto them take heed what ye hear for with that measure ye me it shall be measured to you and under you that hears some will be given for you that hath to him shall be given and he that hath not from him shall be taken even that which he hath and he said so is the kingdom of God as if a man should cast seed into the ground and should sleep and rise night and day and the seeds to spring and grow up he knoweth not how for the earth bringeth forth fruit of herself face the blade in the ear and after that the full cone in the ear for when the fruit is brought forth immediately he put it in the sickle because the harvest has come and he said where unto shall we like in the kingdom of God with what comparison so we can compare it it was like a grain of mustard seed which when it is shown in the earth is less than all the seas that be in the earth but when it is shown it groweth up and becomes greater than all herbs and suiteth up great branches so that the fowls of the air may lodge under the saddle of it and with many such parables spake he the word unto them as they were able to hear it but without a parable spake ye not unto them and when they were alone he expound all things to his disciples and the same day when the even was gone he saith unto them let us pass over into the other side and when they had sent away the multitude they took him even as he was in the sip and there was also with them other little ships and there was a great storm of wind and the waves beat into the sip so that it was now full and he was in the hind of part of the sip asleep on a pillow and they awake him and saying to him master carest are not that repairs and he arose and rebuked the wind and said unto the sea peace be still and the wind ceased and there was a great calm and he said unto them why are you so fearful how is it that you have no faith and they feared exceedingly and said one to another but manner of man is this that even the wind and the sea obey him let's pray dear Lord I thank you for this opportunity to come back to church but you feel fast with your spirit I was all to learn something Jesus name amen amen so you're there in Mark chapter 4 and I'm preaching a sermon basically I'm entitling it comparison physical and spiritual salvation and basically a lot of times in the Bible or at least in the New Testament in the Gospels we'll see that Jesus is healing people physically and kind of saving people physically but there's a lot of stuff that you can learn from that as far as how that applies to spiritual salvation there's a lot of elements within that kind of an allegory if you will of what happens spiritually or how you get saved spiritually and all of that and so I think it's a good tool to look at these passages and see okay this is how someone gets saved spiritually as well and in this chapter you say why are we reading Mark 4 well look at verse 30 there because a parable or an allegory is basically a comparison okay so what I'm doing with this sermon is I'm going to be comparing people that are physically being healed physically being saved or made whole and comparing that to what happens spiritually speaking okay and this is something that Jesus does throughout the Gospels and I just want you to see that a parable is just that an allegory is just that it's just a comparison it's basically like it's like this but with any comparison nothing is going to be a hundred percent the same like there's going to be elements of it that are going to be the same but you can't take it holistically you can't take it to the T in a lot of cases and that's what a lot of people do with parables is they'll take a parable and then they'll try to apply that parable or basically that one parable to everything else in the Bible right and it's just like the you know the branches you know they'll be like the branches mean this like well in this context with this parable yes but not over here right and so you'll see where the vine the branches like different things will be you know in different contexts mean something else and so you have to you have to basically take it to exactly what is kind of the surface meaning as far as the the the comparison there but I want you to see here in verse 30 it says and he said where unto shall we liken the kingdom of God or with what comparison shall we compare it okay so he basically is explaining here he's like okay so how are we going to compare like what are we going to use to compare you know basically things that you know to the kingdom of God to heaven right how are we going to compare what are we going to liken it unto and it says it is like a grain of mustard seed so obviously if you took that to the TV like heaven is a grain of mustard seed it's like no it's like that and here's why right but you don't take it to the full extent that it's literally a grain of mustard seed right you take it to the point of like okay what about a grain of mustard seed is gonna describe heaven right and here's what's gonna describe it it says which when it is sown in the earth is less than all the seeds that be in the earth so basically the big point that's being made is that it's a very small seed it's not you know it's not it's not very big at all and but it says but when it is sown it groweth up and become a greater than all herbs and shooteth out great branches so that the fowls of the air may lodge under the shadow of it okay so basically if you think about all the herbs like you think of like you know basil and like just different types of you know herbs that you would use for cooking and stuff like that they don't necessarily turn into a tree okay literally a mustard there's a the mustard seed turns into a tree which I didn't know that until you know I looked it up one time but it's obviously a massive tree and it's the idea of how something really small here on earth can turn into something really big in heaven and it's a little as much when God is in it right the idea of like what you do a little bit of what you do here is going to be huge in the kingdom of heaven as far as the reward for what you do right it's kind of just that comparison of like that's that's what it's like you know here on earth that little tiny seed will turn into this massive tree in heaven right so but then it goes on to say in with many such parables spake he the word unto them as they were able to hear it so what is a parable but basically comparing something physical to explain spiritual things now that can be dark you know dark sayings to some people right because you know that it's obviously maybe not super clear in some cases but in in essence isn't this how we teach our children anything like if you're gonna teach somebody you know how to read or how to like do certain you know like do certain things when it comes to teaching a lot of us are homeschooling our children what do you do you basically if there's a new word for example you're gonna teach them what do you do you compare it to other words they know right for example I forget what word Claire was asking me what it meant I think common I said that that is common because we're talking about animals we're coming to the church and talking about like hawks and eagles and stuff like that and whether they like will like attack children or something like that it was just like this this conversation we were having like but we're talking about Eagles and she was asking like our Eagles basically you know they here in West Virginia I said well yeah I've seen an eagle before but I said they're not common okay or they're rare and she's and she was asking like what that meant you know what it meant to be common I said common would mean like you see him all the time you know so what basically they can explain that word I had to say like it's like deer right they're common you see them all the time swamp donkeys are jumping out in the front of your cars at all times you know in West Virginia they're common rare is the opposite of that right so that's how we explain new words to our children that's how we you know basically you take what they know and you use that to compare it okay and the idea is what Jesus is doing because Jesus is from heaven right he's the Lord from heaven so how do you explain heaven how do you explain things that no one has seen before right you take things that they have seen and you compare it okay now this is why you know go to go to James or John chapter 3 John chapter 3 and verse 11 John chapter 3 and verse 11 when he's speaking to Nicodemus remember he was saying you must be born again and there's this idea of comparing the physical birth to the spiritual birth right you know that which is born of the you know you must be born the water and the spirit because that which is born of the flesh is flesh and that which is born of the spirit of spirit and really you can see that that's a great comparison of salvation because just as much as you're born one time into this world you're born one time into God's family and once you're born physically you can't be you know we can't go back into your mother's womb and be born again right you know that's obviously Nicodemus was taken into just meaning physical and not really understanding what it meant to be born again and but it's a great comparison but what Jesus says here because Nicodemus is like how can these things be so and he says art thou master of Israel know it's not these things but it says in verse 11 it says verily verily I say unto thee we speak that we do know and testify that we have seen and you receive not our witness if I have told you earthly things and you believe not how shall you believe if I tell you of heavenly things and really it comes down to this is that if you can't get the earthly meaning then how you can understand the spiritual meaning and and one key to understanding a parable is get the earthly meaning first right if you're looking at a parable just get the the plain earthly like meaning of what's being said right I mean think about the parable the dealing with the the mustard seed right the mustard seeds really small turns into a really big tree that's the physical like down on the bottom shelf meaning right something really small became something really big right and when you think about the parable the sower that was in this right okay well where the seed landed it didn't grow very well right and on the on the stony rock you didn't have good root right very simple meaning when it was in the thorns the thorns choked it and didn't let it grow very well simple meaning the birds ate at the beginning with at the very beginning or it's in good ground that grew very well very simple like down on the bottom shelf earthly meaning right then you take that and you apply it to the spiritual meaning right what people do is they just like throw out the earthly meaning like who cares what that means it's like that's the whole point of a parable though the whole point is to take what you know to be true what's very simple to understand earthly speaking and then apply it now this is why the Trinity for example is very hard to comprehend okay obviously the Bible teaches it but I'll say this is that it's hard to comprehend because there is nothing earthly to compare it to okay let me give you let me give you some verses on this right because what's the whole point of a parable right is to liken it on to something right to compare it on to something go to Isaiah chapter 40 in verse 18 Isaiah chapter 40 in verse 18 because this is something that my children always you know even just God being eternal right is something that it's hard to grasp right because there's nothing that you can compare that to really besides maybe mathematics but you know there's definitely things that you can try to liken it to the same thing with the Trinity you can try to liken it to it but really there's just nothing that is just like boom there it is you know there's a physical representation of what you're dealing with there because the Trinity is something that has no comparison really no true comparison because God is unique as they have 40 and I want you to remember what did it say like in the kingdom on to and why shall we compare it then maybe compare you know what comparison shall we compare it to right it says in Isaiah 40 in verse 18 to whom then will we liken God or what likeness will you compare unto him right now that's a rhetorical question meaning like there isn't anything that you can compare them to right notice and go to Isaiah 46 Isaiah 46 and verse 5 so this is just kind of a preface to the sermon and the idea of what's the point of parables it's the compare it to something it's basically taking physical things and comparing it you know to the spiritual so that well I can understand the physical how does that relate to the spiritual and and that's what I'm gonna do with physical healing physical salvation is I'm gonna take where people were physically healed and we compare that and how that compares very well to how someone gets saved spiritually okay Isaiah 46 and verse 5 it says to whom will you liken me and and make me equal and compare me that we may be like that's notice these Trinity verses that are just kind of popping out to you right that we may be like right but then also you have the idea of even in I in John 3 it says we speak that we do know and testify that we have seen and you receive not our witness right so and then it says if I have spoken yeah if I have told you earthly things right same thing you know in the beginning when it talks about the fact that let us make man in our image after our likeness right so but then in verse 9 there of Isaiah 46 says remember the former things of old for I am God and there is none else I am God and there is none like me so that being said it makes sense that it's hard to compare God to anything really right so we try but everything comes short of that right let me think about it you can explain what we're soul body and spirit but our soul body and spirit isn't three separate persons right so it's it's kind of explains it but it's nothing to compare it to and there's that's just reality right and we just have to take it by faith that that's the way it is and that's why I think it's just something that it's I think when we see them you know when we're face to face with them it's gonna click and we're gonna be like yes that's that makes perfect sense but I'll say this is that if anybody struggles with the Trinity or struggles with God being eternal join the club right join the club the Bible says it specifically it's very clear that that God is a Trinity but to wrap your mind around it is like wrapping your mind around infinity you know like that numbers go on forever either direction right and so that's something that it's it's a concept that we know to be true right but trying to comprehend it and wrap your mind around it is another thing so that being said let's get into some passages here go to Matthew chapter 14 dealing with physical salvation but how this relates to or how this is compared to how someone gets saved spiritually speaking okay this is just something that I'm always thinking when I'm reading through the New Testament I'm just I see these stories I'm like I'm seeing little there's elements in each one of these stories that are just like yeah that fits on how you get saved that fits on you know that type of thing and this is there no new doctrine here okay so if you're looking for new doctrine this isn't your sermon okay there's nothing new here but it may be there's things in these stories that you never really put with how you get saved or maybe you've never really like maybe applied that to like how someone gets saved spiritually speaking so if anything this would just be a sermon to be like oh okay this you know these things fit hand in glove in a lot of cases okay and Matthew chapter 14 verse 25 this is the story where Jesus is walking on the water he's walking on the sea but specifically what I want to get to is where Peter walks on the water okay so notice it says here in verse 25 it says in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went unto them walking on the sea and when the disciples saw him walking on the sea they were troubled saying it is a spirit and they cried out for fear but straightaway Jesus spake unto them saying be of good cheer at his eye but be not afraid and Peter answered him and said Lord if it be thou bid me come unto thee on the water and he said come and when Peter was come down out of the ship he walked on the water to go to Jesus but when he saw the wind boisterous he was afraid and began to sink and beginning to sink he cried saying Lord save me and immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand and caught him and said unto him o thou little faith wherefore didst thou doubt and when they had when they were come into the ship the wind ceased then they that were in the ship came and worshiped him saying of a truth thou art the Son of God now this is a physical saving here okay people I mean there's definitely people I'm sure that would say this is where Peter got saved like spiritually but I'll say this it doesn't really make sense especially since oh you little faith right it's kind of like why'd you doubt right that's a great example of like where someone's getting spiritually safe but there are elements in this that do compare to spiritual salvation okay like I said a parable is never perfect in its comparison that makes sense so that's where people get off track is that they want every little piece of that parable to be completely lock and step with the spiritual okay and that's where people get off the rails no the the kind of meaning that you're getting from it is usually what's being spiritual and then the other stuff is maybe not specifically meant to be taken that way okay and so but in this passage there's certain things that I see here is that one he was afraid okay and the fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge okay now he was in the story physical physically speaking he was afraid of the storm he wasn't necessarily afraid of the Lord okay but for salvation I believe that a fear of the Lord is the beginning you know fearing the Lord meaning like I'm a sinner you know I my punishment for that is death and hell right that's what starts things but the thing that I that I mainly see here is that when he began he's beginning to sink he cried Lord save me okay so what do you have calling on the name of the Lord okay and this is something that is attacked for whatever reason as far as this idea that you don't need to call upon the Lord for salvation now I'll say this and I preach whole sermons on this obviously you don't have to audibly say something for someone else to hear God can hear your heart he knows you know you can talk within your heart and you can call upon the Lord in your heart and you don't have to say anything outwardly right obviously someone that's mute that can't speak can get saved right and faith comes by hearing here by the Word of God someone that can't hear can get saved okay because hearing is talking about understanding speaking is talking about basically calling out to God for salvation whether that's speaking it or whether that's speaking it with your heart okay so let's put that out the door okay what it comes down to is that salvation is a choice salvation is a choice that you must choose and you must there's a moment when you choose it okay and I believe that the calling on the name of Lord is a very important doctrine because you need to know that there's a time when you get saved it says now is the acceptable time now is the day of salvation there is a time when you get safe just as much as there's a time when you're born there's a moment where you're born into this world and there's a moment when you choose salvation and when it comes to salvation it's believing on the Lord Jesus Christ right it's the faith that saves us but you're not really believing on him if you haven't chosen to put your faith in him okay meaning this is that someone can believe that's how you get safe that's how someone gets saved is by faith in Jesus Christ it's eternal life can't lose your salvation that's how someone gets eight but they're not putting their faith in it and calling on the name Lord is a moment in time where you're saying I'm trusting in it okay and it could be as simple as saying the Lord saved me right or remember me you know Lord remember me when I'll come us into my kingdom or Lord be merciful unto me a sinner right you know it doesn't have to be some elaborate type of prayer but it just has to be a moment where you're calling out for salvation and that could be in the heart that could be with your mouth and obviously we've got so winning we'll pray with people and we don't count them as salvation's if they don't pray but that doesn't mean that they didn't get saved maybe just the fact of the matter is is that I can't see their heart okay I can't see whether they did believe that but if I hear them confess with their mouth then you know to me I can I can take their words and just you know justify that they actually believe that with their words okay but there's I guarantee people that have gotten saved but didn't want to pray out loud or maybe they were embarrassed to pray out loud or maybe they maybe they didn't want to admit to us that they changed their mind but they did and they actually did in their heart believe on Christ and you know that can happen but you see here that he says Lord saved me so he called out for salvation and this is something that's again I'm gonna bring up again with other stories is that you have to ask for it okay and asking is not a work right the Bible talks about you know if we give good gifts unto our children you know being evil how much more shall he give good things to them that ask him right so it wouldn't cease to be a gift then if he's giving you you know if your children ask you for a fish and you don't give them a serpent right you ask they ask for egg and you don't give them a stone and that's considered a gift okay even though they asked for it then the same thing would apply for salvation if you ask for salvation it's still gift okay and so but then it goes on to say in verse 31 and immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand and caught him salvation is an immediate event it's instantaneous the moment you call out for salvation Jesus hands grabbing you like he is you're in his hand you're saved immediately it's not this process it's not this you know osmosis type of like I'm kind of saved I'm getting there no it's immediate that immediate salvation that happens and this this physical representation of that is a good example of it Lord saved me immediately saved pulled up out of the water I'm drowning no you're not not now saved in the boat when ceased everything's completely taken care of now in the physical application of this you know he's kind of he's kind of berating them for not having faith but doubting but know this that even in salvation that remember the man that says it or when Jesus says if thou can't believe all things are possible him that believeth and it says he says I believe Lord I believe help thou mine unbelief no this too is that you don't have to have this mountain moving faith to be saved you don't have to have this big faith to be saved you just have to have whatever faith your whatever you're putting your faith in to get you to heaven has to be in Jesus and that faith could be as small as faith can be okay but whatever it is whatever amount of faith you have needs to be in Jesus Christ alone and you know if you want to say well you know I need mountain moving faith like the disciples you mean like right here you know like all the other places where he's basically saying Oh faithless generation how long shall I be with you right and he's constantly saying why are you doubting why are you without faith why do you have no faith in this right and obviously in that he's not saying he doesn't they don't believe on him for salvation he's just saying like they don't have faith and like you know what he's going to do and the miracles he's gonna do and we're talking about the you know being a disciple okay but sometimes these cases where it's this physical salvation there are elements in there that you can compare to spiritual salvation you know that the idea of fear like I said fearing the Lord the Bible says this in Hebrews 2 I want you to go to Luke chapter 8 because the next story but Hebrews 2 14 says for as much then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood he also himself likewise took part of the same that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death that is the devil and deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject subject to bondage and this idea of fearing death being afraid to die and in that story isn't Peter afraid to die right he's afraid to drown and fear of death but when you get saved there's no there's no reason to be afraid of death right because you're passed from death unto life the moment you believe on Christ in that instantaneous salvation that happens there I believe that story really represents that one you call boom you're saved immediately immediately so go to Luke chapter 8 Luke chapter 8 there's actually a couple stories in here one dealing with with the woman that was healed of the infirmity of the blood that she had the issue of blood for 12 years and the thing that I want you to see with this story is that it's by faith that they're saved right in this story it's faith that they're healed but it's by faith that you're saved okay so the last story we saw is it you know they called out for salvation Lord save me so calling upon the Lord now how should they call on him and him they've not believed right is that that calling isn't gonna help you unless you believe you know you have that faith that's backing it right but in verse 43 so Luke chapter 8 in verse 43 says in the in a woman having an issue of blood 12 years which has spent all her living upon physicians neither could be healed of any came behind him and touched the border of his garment and immediately her issue of blood staunch notice the immediacy of being healed and notice here you know it like I said when it comes to calling upon the Lord I don't believe God is cutthroat where just like you didn't say the word right words you didn't say that exactly right you know it's more it's it's really about are you putting your faith in him or not are you choosing him or not have you chosen life or not and notice that the Bible a lot of cases in these stories is like they touched him they they call on him they just said Lord right but God knows what's in the heart it's that it's that idea of I want that right give that to me I want that gift asking for it right and however you do that whether it's just touching his garment whether it's calling on you know like saying something specifically the Lord sees that okay in verse verse 45 it isn't in Jesus said who touched me when all denied Peter and they that were with him said master the the multitude throng thee and press thee and sayest thou who touched me I always I don't know have you ever do you ever just read the story and just laugh at that right get the picture right everybody's just like thronging him like like grabbing him and all this stuff going through the crowd and then he's like who touched me you know you can imagine disciples are like what do you mean you touched you everybody touched you right everybody that's around you touched you but obviously there was someone specifically that touched him that got healed right because then he goes on to say and it says in Jesus said somebody had touched me for I perceive that virtue is gone out of me meaning that he obviously has healed somebody and then in verse 47 says and when when the woman saw that she was not hid she came trembling and fell falling down for him she declared unto him before all the people for what cause she had touched him and how she was healed immediately and he said unto her daughter be of good comfort thy faith hath made thee whole go in peace so what healed her her faith and what happened and how you know how long did it take for her to be healed immediately she was healed it was immediate and salvation is an immediate event the moment you believe on him the moment you trust him you're saved and go go back a chapter there and this is dealing with a different woman but it uses the term say because this is more so dealing with spiritual salvation okay so like I said this this story here in Luke 8 with the woman you're dealing with a physical healing aren't you I mean just get the physical application here this woman had this issue of blood 12 years touched his garment she was healed immediately the blood staunch meaning like she no longer had that issue anymore that was no longer there it was done immediately right in this story and Luke 7 in verse 48 here and he said unto her thy sins are forgiven and they that sat at meet with him began to say within themselves who is this that forgives sins also and he said to the woman by faith had saved thee go in peace so it's you can see how these can cross over the ones dealing with a physical healing this is dealing with spiritual healing and the idea here is that it's the faith that healed the woman of the issue of blood and it immediately happened the same thing with salvation is that moment you believe your sins are forgiven immediately okay and there's other things to be to learn in these passages because with that passage specifically he's teaching the person that's in the house a lesson because this woman was like a well-known sinner I guess you know meaning this is that it was kind of she was probably known for maybe some more grievous sins to where it was kind of this well-known thing right and he was kind of berating Jesus because she was washing his feet and anointing him and all this stuff but then he's saying he gives the example of the person that's forgiven a more loves more okay it's not but you know people will take that me say see you need to love more to be saved more right except for the fact that when he says what saved you what forgives you of your sins your faith and nothing to do with her loving him more or loving him at all we love him because he first loved us and salvation is not we gave our lives to him but he gave his life for us and people get that stuff backwards all the time but even in these stories I mean it's very clear what saved her faith and many times through these stories he'll say he's seeing that they have faith to be healed but that same will apply to the fact that I'm being saved in some cases you'll see where they'll be healed but then he'll also say your sins are forgiven you because both are happening you know in that moment going to I had you go to your you're in Luke 7 there but look look back at Luke 8 in verse 49 so if you get this story you have this this this ruler of the synagogue's daughter is basically on the brink of death and Jesus is coming down to go see this daughter right or this this man's daughter but in between that stories where this woman touches his garment and you kind of get that story but this kind of comes back to the story that basically that they're saying she's dead don't trouble you know the master and all that in verse 49 says while he yet spake there cometh one from the ruler of the the synagogue's house saying to him thy daughter is dead trouble not the master but when Jesus heard it he answered him saying fear not believe only and she shall be made whole believe only now the Bible is very clear that it's by faith but just in case you didn't get the picture here it's by faith alone it's by faith only okay that you're going to be saved not by works not by anything else it's by faith only and this is a great past because people are like where's the Bible say believe only right here now obviously this is dealing with a physical event of physical salvation but this relates to eternal salvation because how many verses in the Bible do we have for by grace are you saved through faith and that not of yourselves is the gift of God not of works let's say a man should boast right not of works the righteous we have done but according to mercy he saved us and just on and on we have verse verse after verse after verse saying is by faith not works faith not works this literally says believe only and you'll have another parallel passage where it will say only believe okay and it'll just say that you know so believe only only believe it's by faith alone that we're saved it's by calling upon name and Lord through faith alone is how you're safe and how do you get in and how long does it take for you to get saved when you do that immediately notice in all these cases just like immediately immediately immediately immediately immediately Jesus pulled you know stretched forth his hand and pulled him out of the water immediately the blood staunch you know and and obviously Jesus goes in there and and and this woman get you know it's raised from the dead and all of that but it's by only by faith and faith alone that that happened go to Luke chapter 18 Luke chapter 18 and I know I kind of already hit on this but I want this one is specifically that you need to ask for salvation okay no this is that G that God knows what you need before you ask for it okay this story is a great example of this obviously Jesus knew what this person wanted him to do but I want you to notice what he says here God no God knows that everybody needs saved it's not like you know Jesus doesn't know that people need saved okay but he wants us to ask him for it okay this is the one stipulation right there is a condition for salvation and this is it you must ask for it and when you ask for it obviously it needs to be by faith alone that you're asking for it in verse 35 here it says it came to pass that as he was come nigh unto Jericho a certain blind man sat by the wayside begging in hearing the multitude pass by he asked what it meant and they told him that Jesus of Nazareth passes by and he cried saying Jesus thou son of David have mercy on me and they which went before rebuked him that he should hold his peace but he cried so much the more thou son of David have mercy on me and Jesus stood and commanded him to be brought unto him and when he was come near he asked him so Jesus is asking him this saying what will thou that I shall do unto thee now I want you to imagine he's blind okay it's very obvious what this man is gonna want right like if a blind man came up to you and said I want to be you know like like in all these stories a blind man comes up to Jesus the the deaf man comes up to him the person that has you know a devil or whatever there's no doubt what they need okay but Jesus says asks him what will thou that I shall do unto thee and he said Lord that I may receive my sight now that may seem kind of like obvious it is obvious okay this whole story is obvious right we all know why this man wants Jesus to have mercy on him because he's blind he wants to receive his sight but Jesus wants him to ask for it he's saying what will thou what do you want me to do for you and this goes into prayer right if you don't ask you have not because you ask not okay and it's not that God doesn't know because it says that God knows before you ask him right it's the fact of the matter is is that he wants you to ask him for it okay this is the one stipulation for salvation is that you must ask for it and like I said this doesn't have to be audibly with your mouth doesn't have to be in front of a soul winner this could be in your heart but I'll say this to think that someone puts their faith in Jesus and doesn't speak to him any form whether in the heart or anything like that is insanity like give me a break like you're not speaking to him you're not talking to him at all like like even thinking in your mind Lord that's awesome you know like you do you're not thinking anything right you're not thinking anything you're not like speaking to him at all in your mind in your heart or anything like that's that's insanity to think that so instead of put I'm not putting like stipulations on this I'm just saying that that's just the fact of the matter that you must ask in some form shape fashion right every shape form and fashion right anyway the idea here is that you must ask he's asking he's asking us to ask he's that's the one demand for salvation is that you must ask for it and and it says in verse 42 and Jesus said unto him receive thy sight thy fate hath saved me so all you have to do is ask it's there and this is something that I tell people when we go out so winning and say hey salvation is out there for everybody but does that mean everybody's getting saved does that mean everybody's going to heaven no what's the difference who asks for it who wants it and all you say I want it give me that or save me like it doesn't have to be some magical words the Lord knows your heart it's not that cutthroat okay as far as that goes but you'll see throughout it doesn't there's not like Lord that I may receive my sight Lord save me it's not like this elaborate prayer anything like that it's just the fact that you realize this is the Lord and he you know he's gonna save me I believe that he's gonna save me and these stories can give you these avenues that kind of show you okay this is physical right he physically saved you know he physically healed his sight right the woman was physically healed from the issue of blood the daughter was physically raised from the dead Peter was literally pulled out of the water right we're not taking at any of that out of the equation all I'm saying is that a lot of these stories have a great application or comparison to what happens when someone gets saved or how you get saved spiritually okay so but again you know what people will do with this sometimes is they'll take it too far just like a parable right these aren't parables okay these are actual events that actually happen but people will take a parable too far and then they'll you know try to take it too far with the spiritual application okay these are physical salvation's physical healings but there is a good comparison to the spiritual and again when it comes to this obviously statements about salvation as far as like how do I get saved what I must do is gonna be your top-notch like pick as far as like how do I determine doctrine I don't go to physical salvation stories and determine doctrine off that what I'm taking is I know good doctrine based off statements Commandments all that and I'm saying okay with that doctrine right there this all fits all these things apply all these things fit hand and glove and all of that don't go the other way around it's just same thing with parable you know how do I understand a parable I have good doctrine based off Commandments and statements and then I'm gonna figure out what the parable means based off that not the other way around you don't find your doctrine from parables you don't find your doctrine from you know these maybe dark sayings and stuff like that but go to a Matthew chapter 9 Matthew chapter 9 another thing that we need to understand is that when we're believing in Christ what are we believing right obviously we believe that he exists right I don't think anybody when they were getting healed from Jesus didn't believe he existed right they're literally staring at him right so but the the thing that they're really we're believing is that he's able to do it and with all these healings when we're talking about like these physical things what is the really the aspect of the believing is that he can do it he's able to do it okay notice what it says in verse 27 Matthew chapter 9 verse 27 and when Jesus departed thence two blind men followed him crying and saying thou son of David have mercy on us and when he was coming to the house the blind men came to him and Seth and Jesus said unto them believe ye that I am able to do this so it's kind of like the same kind of thing that he's facing what and with the one he's saying what do you want me to do right in this case he's saying do you believe that I am able to do this right and that really is the crux of the matter when it comes to salvation are you do you believe he can save you do you believe he's able to save you and it said and and they said unto him yay Lord so they're like yes we believe you're able right then touched he their eyes saying according to your faith be it unto you so when it comes to salvation what does it mean to believe and I know I just hit on this recently and it seems like I'm hitting on salvation over and over again it's not because we have some problem about salvation in our church I'm just I don't know it's just one of those things where I just this is something that just I'm reading and I'm seeing this type of stuff but when it comes to Abraham Abraham believed God and it was imputed on him for righteousness when we're talking about that imputed righteousness and when it explains what he believed well one it says that to him the him that work had not but believe in him to justify the ungodly his faith is kind of righteous so we know that works aren't involved right it's by both faith only but then it goes on to say he being fully persuaded that what he had promised he was able also to perform and therefore it was imputed on him for righteousness so the big you know where the rubber meets the road and we usually use the term you know like eternal security once they've always saved which is true that's where the rubber meets the road but here's where the rubber really meets the road is that people don't believe that he's able to save them from all their sins you know that's the crux of the matter is that it must they must you must believe that he's able to do it now in some cases you know the leper for example comes up to Jesus and says if thou will thou can't make me clean right he's admitting there he's like if you're willing you can make me clean right and really when it comes to prayer that is that what we're praying we're like we know you can do it if it's according to your will right and obviously when it comes to salvation God's not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance who he will that all men be saved and come to the knowledge of truth so God is always obviously willing for people to get saved they come to him by faith but when it comes to you know these passages we can definitely see that you have to believe he's able to okay and that is a big component to salvation you know obviously we have to ask him for it but it has to be through faith alone only believing but that believing is believing he's able to do it right for example if Jesus says I will give you everlasting life but you say no it's conditional and that life can end you know what you're saying he's not able to give you everlasting life right that's not really everlasting and so these are all elements that I see throughout that it's like what will you what will tell that I do want to be it's like well I want to be saved oh my god I want my sight right or whatever the case may be it's like what are you believe I'm able to do it yes you know you're able to do it right and then the moment you call for that salvation you ask for it it's immediate it's immediate salvation okay go to John chapter 9 John chapter 9 here's an interesting story now a lot of cases when it comes to these healings it seems like there's the salvation spiritual salvation is happening at the same time a lot of cases meaning this is that you see the the man that remember when they were coming down they're bringing the one man down on the bed through the the housetop and it says that he's seeing their faith you know and all this stuff and he heals the man right but before he heals the man he says I sins are forgiven me right so he's kind of talking about the spiritual salvation and then they're obviously like who who's this man that forgives sin it's only God that can forgive sin he's like well what's easier for me to say his sins would be forgiven for him to rise up and walk right so obviously in the physical realm it's easier for me to talk about something spiritual because like you know you can't prove that tangibly right but what you can prove tangibly is that the person obviously couldn't walk but now they are right and so you have kind of the spiritual salvation and physical salvation kind of being hand in glove in the passage and then sometimes it doesn't really mention spiritual salvation but it's kind of implied you know like when he calls the one woman daughter right it's kind of implied that hey this is a child God all that in this passage this person's healed before they get saved okay and I think this is a great example of that God saving you from some physical event isn't always it can't be used as proof for your salvation okay this is something that we run to out so winning a lot to where someone's like I know that I'm going to heaven because God saved me from this car wreck he saved me from this big nasty event and I don't doubt that God saved them from saved them you know from that circumstance okay but that doesn't equate eternal salvation doesn't equate spiritual spiritual salvation and this is a great story to really it really shows you it proves to you like this guy didn't know what he was believing for spiritual salvation until afterwards okay look at this story here and I'm John chapter 9 verse 1 John chapter 9 verse 1 it says and as Jesus passed by he saw a man which was blind from his birth and his disciples asked him saying master who did sin this man or his parents that he was born blind Jesus answered neither had this man sin nor his parents but that the works of God should be made manifest in him I must work the works of him that sent me while at his day the night cometh when no man can work as long as I am in the world I am the light of the world when he had thus spoken he spat on the ground and made clay of the spittle any anointing the eyes of the blind man with the clay and said unto him go wash in the pool of Siloam which is by interpretation sent he went his way therefore and washed and came seeing okay so get the story this guy's born blind obviously his disciples are like what happened how'd this happen right did his parents in did he sin like what what caused him to be born blind which is kind of crazy to think it's like he sinned he's born blind okay did he sin in the womb like what what caused this right but obviously Jesus saying no one said it had nothing to do with sin right sometimes people are born with infirmities or have things like that and it has nothing to do with sin okay which is another good thing to to note in the story other than what I'm trying to teach right now is that you know it's not always based on sin right it's just as much as like when Job was being tried it didn't have to do with the sin actually it had to do with his righteousness that he was being tried okay but keep reading there because the thing is is that he's healed right then he's brought to you know basically into the temple and all this stuff and they're basically questioning him because everybody's just like this is the kind of born blind it can't be denied right this is a major miracle in verse 10 there says therefore said they unto him how were thine eyes opened and he answered and said a man that is called Jesus made clay so he knew who he was right he knew his name was Jesus he knew that much okay it says made clay anointed mine eyes and said unto me go in the pool of Siloam and wash and I went and washed and I received and I received sight and what he explains later is that they're like well where is he now and he's like I don't know you know basically like he kind of got lost in the crowd if you will right and so at this point he knows his name is Jesus he knows that he healed him you know he knows that he obviously healed his sight and everything right and here's why here's one big reason why I believe he's not saved yet okay it's because verse 24 it says then again called they the man that was blind and said unto him give God the praise we know that this man is a sinner now obviously the people that are saying that are a bunch of morons that are saying that Jesus is a sinner they're envious of them all of that no those are verse 25 he answered and said whether he be a sinner or no I know not okay so at this point he's leaning obviously that he's not a sinner because he's gonna defend Jesus and basically say can a sinner do this right and he's kicked out of the temple for it right because he's like how in the world can a sinner heal someone that's born blind right so it's not like he's saying Jesus is a sinner he's just basically like I'm not sure you know like who this guy is right it's kind of like I don't know whether he's a sinner he's not I don't believe he's accusing him of being a sinner I think he's just like not sure right but he's kind of like if he is how could this be right but it says one thing I know that whereas I was blind now I see so they end up kicking him out of the temple okay and it says in verse 20 verse 35 Jesus heard that they had cast him out and when he had found him he said unto him thus thou believe on the Son of God he answered and said who is he Lord that I may believe on him so he obviously isn't like he hasn't connected the dots that Jesus is the Son of God that he is the one that needs to believe on for salvation and Jesus said unto him thou has both seen him and it is he that talketh with thee so you know they feel like Jesus never claimed to be the Son of God boom right there and he literally telling it I I'm talking with you it's he that's talking with you right now right it's like I you see and listen he hasn't seen many people because he'd been born blind so you know it's obviously a few people that he's seen right but it says in verse 38 and he said Lord I believe and he worshiped him so here's a case where the physical salvation that happens happens actually before the person gets saved some cases I think that people were already saved they were already believers and he healed them of their infirmity okay sometimes maybe it's happening kind of in the same time right it's kind of like this idea of like they they're healed of this and they're like this is the Christ this is the Son of God right and they're just they're clicking all of that this there's a little bit of a gap there because you know he doesn't Jesus kind of like was taken with the multitude which is kind of typical when it comes to the fact that always thronging him wanting to talk to him and all this stuff but this is a clear delineation between physical and spiritual when it comes to that so when it comes to this story it does show you that hey just because Jesus heals somebody physically doesn't necessarily mean they get saved this could also go for maybe when devils were cast out okay for example there's there is the story in the Bible where it talks about when unclean spirits come out of a man and he goes to and fro through the earth that he comes back and he finds it empty swept and garnished well if the person was saved the Holy Spirit would be in taking up residence right so it wouldn't be empty so the idea there is that maybe there's a case where a devil's cast out but they didn't believe on Christ right and so that's just that that's just kind of a thought okay I'm not saying that person in that story that that the devil cat was cast out by some believer or by Jesus or anything like that but it could I think it's possible okay mark chapter 8 and verse 22 mark chapter 8 verse 22 and the last thing that I want to state here is that these passages will show you I think a comparison of how you get saved but it also will show you comparison of how you get saved but also the Christian walk okay meaning like things that can happen after you get saved okay meaning that that's obviously spiritual dealing with the walk right being saved but being a disciple you're talking about spiritual things that are going on there and this story definitely makes me think of that okay mark chapter 8 verse 22 it says and he cometh to Bethsaida and they bring a blind man unto him and besought him to touch him and he took the blind man by the hand and let him out of the town and when he had spit on his eyes and put his hands upon him he asked him if he saw ought and he looked up and said I see men as trees walking that's very interesting right because he can see but it's not apparent it's not like clearly okay then it says after that he put his hands again upon his eyes and made him look up and he was restored and saw every man clearly okay now this is a great example as far as when you get saved sometimes you're not seeing things clearly you can see right you're no longer blind but things aren't crystal clear okay and this is a great example of salvation when you get saved and you're a babe in Christ you're saved you can see right you're no longer blind but things aren't necessarily crystal clear on every subject right there's a lot of growing to see things clearly and I think about this specifically with salvation as far as like dealing with soul winning for example and people are different on this meaning that sometimes when people get saved you know they don't really see people out in the world for what they really are meaning like people that are unbelievers and believers right there's this kind of like clear distinction and seeing clearly that when you're out in the world you're like mostly people aren't saved right it's kind of like this clear distinction whereas a lot of people get saved and are just not thinking they're just seeing every man every man alike right everybody's just kind of all the same and there's no distinction between unsaved saved all that right and the more you read the Bible the more that you are living for the Lord the more of those distinctions stand out and you see more clearly and this is something that the Bible teaches as far as how Christians can be blind in that aspect right we're never blind from salvation or like anything like that but you know we cannot see clearly or as the Bible says in 2nd Peter when it talks about adding to your faith virtue and the virtue knowledge and going down line it says that if these things if you lack these things are he that lack these things is blind and cannot see a far off and notice that it's not saying like you're completely blind but you're kind of you can't see a far off right would that be nearsighted if you can't see a far off right near sight is like that you can see things near right but not a far off I don't know because I got 20 20 vision boom struck behind right anyway but that being said is that you can still see though but you can't see things far off right so the same thing is kind of like you see trees you can see right it's not like you're completely blind but it's kind of this idea like I can see but it's blurry I can see you know but it's not a parent it's not clear right and this is a great example I believe of you know once you get saved the more you live for Christ the more that you you know get your eyes anointed and notice here that he anoints his eyes right this is something that's spoken of in Revelation dealing with how he's chasing churches and people and everything it says you know whom I love I chase and you know and rebuke and all that but it talks about that people that are lukewarm it talks about the fact that they have it's because they said we have need of nothing right but it says you're wretched and blind and naked and all this but it says you know basically to buy of him and basically gold tried in the fire and it says anoint thine eyes by Sav that thou mayest see and so there say people out there that aren't blind okay to that holistic ascent you know kind of realm there of being blind but they can't see well right it's kind of like they're maybe they can't see it far off or maybe things are blurry maybe it's not clear that's where you really need ISAV and this is the ISAV right here the Word of God you want to see the the world clearly you know we look through a glass darkly but I'll say this that glass darkly is clear compared to you know the world okay and so that's something that I see with these stories this comparison you know basically what comparison shall I like it unto most all these stories that I showed you are all physical healings physical stories again you kind of take that for what it is right he physically healed these people he physically did all this stuff but there is a comparison there to the spiritual salvation and spiritual healing and the fact that it's calling on the name of the Lord it's by faith but it's not only by faith it's by faith only and then it's by faith that you believe he's able and that you're asking for it for salvation and it's immediate the moment that you you ask for it in faith you know it's just it's very clear but this isn't all-inclusive okay meaning this is that I just pick some ones that I was just thinking of but there's other there's other stories that I'm sure have applications to both how someone gets a but also even maybe the the spiritual Christian walk and how that applies to it no this is that all these stories that are written down weren't just fun stories to read right there are for our admonition and for our learning okay even though these are interesting and cool stories right don't get me wrong it's cool to hear about these stories about people being healed and all these events happening know this though they are written to teach us something and for us to use either maybe out soul winning maybe in our Christian life all of that so hopefully that was interesting I just think it's interesting as I'm reading the New Testament those things kind of pop out to me and how that applies and just kind of applying the spiritual aspect to these physical stories but let's end with a word of prayer there how they follow we think today thank you for your word thank you for all these passages and Lord thank you for salvation thank you that it's by faith only in you and that it's it's it's it's immediate the moment we believe on you and thank you for that great to be able to go out soul winning and just pray that you'd lead us to people that are wanting to hear the gospel and Lord help us to be ministers for you and bring the Lord to your name and Lord we love you and pray else in Jesus Christ's name amen but they will come and sing one more song and then we'll be dismissed all right take your song books and turn to song 223 song 223 in your song books and we'll sing Springs of Living Water if you would stand we'll sing song 223 I thirsted in the barren land of sin and shame and nothing satisfying there I found but to the Blessed Cross of Christ one day I came where springs of living water did abound drinking at the springs of living water happy now am I my soul is satisfied drinking at the springs of living water Oh wonderful and bountiful supply how sweet the living water from the hills of God it makes me glad and happy all the way now Corey grace and blessing mark the path I've trod I'm shouting hallelujah every day drinking at the springs of living water happy now am I my soul is satisfied drinking at the springs of living water Oh wonderful and bountiful supply Oh sinner won't you come today to Calvary a fountain there is flowing deep and wide the Savior now invites you to the water free where thirsting spirits can be satisfied drinking at the springs of living water happy now am I my soul is satisfied drinking at the springs of living water Oh wonderful
