(Disclaimer: This transcript is auto-generated and may contain mistakes.) Thank you very much. Thank you. Thank you. Well, good evening everyone. Welcome back to Mountain Baptist Church. Take your song books and turn to song 397. Song 397 in your song books, if you would stand, we'll sing a little as much when God is in it. Song 397. In the harvest field now ripened, there's a work for all to do. But the voice of God is calling to the harvest calling you. Little is much when God is in it, labor not for wealth or fame. There's a crown and you can win it if you'll go in Jesus' name. Because the place you're called to labor seems so small and little known. It is great if God is in it and he'll not forget his own. Little is much when God is in it, labor not for wealth or fame. There's a crown and you can win it if you'll go in Jesus' name. Are you laid aside from service, body worn from toil and care? You can still be in the battle, in the sacred place of prayer. Little is much when God is in it, labor not for wealth or fame. There's a crown and you can win it if you'll go in Jesus' name. When the conflict here is ended and our race on earth is run, he will say to all the faithful, welcome home, my child well done. Little is much when God is in it, labor not for wealth or fame. There's a crown and you can win it if you'll go in Jesus' name. Let's pray. Heavenly Father Lord, we just want to thank you God for today. Thank you Lord for the sermon this morning. Thank you Lord for the souls that were saved this afternoon and the souls that were saved throughout last week in the Virgin Islands. I pray Lord that you would just continue to bless and everything that's said and done help it to be fair in your honor and glory in Jesus' name, amen. All right, you may be seated and turn to song 406. Song 406, we'll sing Who is on the Lord's Side? Song 406. Who is on the Lord's side? Who will serve the King? Who will be his helper? Other lives to bring. Who will leave the world's side? Who will face the foe? Who is on the Lord's side? Who for him will go? By thy call of mercy, by thy grace divine, we are on the Lord's side. Savior we are thine, not for weight of conquering, not for crown or palm, enter we the army, raise the warriors' song, but for love that claimeth lies for whom he died. He whom Jesus nameth must be on his side. By thy love constraining, by thy grace divine, we are on the Lord's side. Savior we are thine, Jesus thou hast bought us, not with gold or gem, but with thine own lifeblood for thy diadem, with thy blessing filling, each who comes to thee. Thou hast made us willing, thou hast made us free. By thy grand redemption, by thy grace divine, we are on the Lord's side. Savior we are thine, fierce may be the conflict, strong may be the foe, but the king's own army none can overthrow. Round his standard ranging, victory is secure, for his truth unchanging makes the triumph sure. Joyfully enlisting, by thy grace divine, we are on the Lord's side. Savior we are thine. Amen. Well, welcome back to Mount Baptist Church on this Sunday evening, and some announcements here. If you want to get the soul winning numbers. We're going to wait until next Sunday to get all the numbers from the St. Thomas missionary trip, just because I don't want to get like half the number, and then we've got to figure out what the other portion of it is. But I know that the number from yesterday was 85 salvation, so definitely huge numbers out there. And then what did we get today? I know our group, we had two, and then someone said they had one, you had one, and was there any others today? So a good job with the soul winning. And then obviously be in prayer for all those that are out still in St. Thomas with that missionary trip there, and definitely seeing a lot of fruit out there. So just be in prayer for them. So next week, that number is going to be really big. So it's going to be the week after that you're going to be like, how are we going to stand up to that? So anyway, but keep up the good work with soul winning, and then general church announcements. All our service times are normal this week. So we have our Wednesday evening time that we're going through the book of Exodus. So we're getting into the plagues, so we're going to be in Chapter 7 this week, Lord willing, and so that's when the exciting stuff happens, right? But I've been enjoying going through the book of Exodus, so be here on Wednesday night if you can. And then soul winning times this week, Brother Charles will be leading up the Monday time, but then the Wednesday time, obviously Brother Richie's going to be heading back from St. Thomas, so he'll be traveling. So the next week, we'll probably be back on track as far as all those times are concerned. And then we have the Bible memory, so Colossians Chapter 1, and so a lot of us guys are almost wrapping that up, and then there's some that are kind of in the middle of it. So like I said, just keep plugging away at memorizing Colossians 1, and don't forget the prize at the end, if you memorize one of these books, you get a Bible and all that, and respect. I don't know. No, actually the biggest prize is obviously that you have it memorized, right? So even if you don't memorize, let's say you got through Chapter 2 and then you got bogged down in Chapter 3, you will not regret having Chapter 1 and 2 memorized of Colossians. So just go in as far as you can, and you never know, maybe you'll pick up and memorize the rest of it later on down the road. So just keep on track with our Bible memory, and then Matthew 4, 7 is our memory verse for the week. Upcoming events, we had the prayer meetings, so this Friday is the men's prayer meeting. I don't think it's warm enough yet to go to the mini golf after our prayer meeting. I don't think it's open yet, so it's still February, so. And then the knitting and tea time of the women's prayer meeting will be the next Saturday. Joking. But you know what, I bet you there is some knitting going on, and some tea time going on. Let's just be honest here. So not that I'm against that, I'm all for it, so anyway. Just be in your places for the prayer meetings there. And then birthdays, we got that this morning, and then be in prayer for all the ladies on the pregnancy list. And then all the ladies that have just had babies, and then just for all the mothers that have babies in general or have kids in general, be in prayer for all them. But you know, I obviously think about the ladies that are pregnant and that whole process there and the delivery and everything, that everything goes well. Is that all I got for announcements that I can think of? So I'll hit, there's something I'm going to mention to the men, but we'll hit that in our prayer meeting. I kind of talked to Brother Charles about it this morning. Nothing bad, nothing like you have to be worried about. Just something that I'll hit on. Basically having doormen. I'm just going to put that up there. We'll talk about it at the prayer meeting. Just kind of having a couple of guys that are just kind of back at the door. Someone comes in late. Stuff like that. You know, it's just kind of nice having a couple of men back there, you know, when people come in or whatever. So anyway, and Brother Charles was out in California last week, so kind of made me think of it. So Brother Charles is usually back there. But it's kind of, maybe we just get some other guys that wouldn't mind just stepping into that every once in a while. But we'll talk about that at the prayer meeting this Friday. Besides that, I think that's about all I've got for announcements. Brother Dave is going to come and sing one more song, Brother Shane is going to be reading Romans chapter 5 for us. All right, take your psalm books and turn to Psalm 116, 116, and we'll sing, He leadeth me, sorry, Psalm 116. He leadeth me, O blessed thought, O words with heavenly comfort, fraud, what e'er I do, where e'er I be, still tis God's hand that leadeth me. He leadeth me, he leadeth me, by his own hand he leadeth me. This faithful follower I would be, for by his hand he leadeth me, sometimes mid scenes of deepest gloom, sometimes where Eden's borrows bloom. My water still o'er troubled sea, still tis his hand that leadeth me. He leadeth me, he leadeth me, by his own hand he leadeth me. This faithful follower I would be, for by his hand he leadeth me, Lord I would clap thine hand in mine, nor ever murmur nor repine, content whatever lot I see, since tis my God that leadeth me. He leadeth me, he leadeth me, by his own hand he leadeth me. His faithful follower I would be, for by his hand he leadeth me. And when my task on earth is done, when by thy grace the victory's won, in death's cold wave I will not flee, since God through Jordan leadeth me. He leadeth me, he leadeth me, by his own hand he leadeth me. His faithful follower I would be, for by his hand he leadeth me. All right, if you would take your Bibles and turn to Romans chapter number five, Romans chapter number five we'll have brother Shane come and read that for us. Romans chapter number five, if you found your place say amen. Therefore being justified by faith we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ by whom also we have access to faith into this grace wherein we stand. Christ in the hope of the glory of God and not only so but we glory in tribulations also knowing that tribulation worketh patience and patience experience and experience hope. And hope maketh not ashamed because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us. For when we were yet without strength in due time Christ died for the ungodly. For scarcely for righteous men will one die yet paired venture for a good man some would even dare to die. But God commendeth his love toward us in that while we were yet sinners Christ died for us. Much more than being now justified by his blood we shall be saved from wrath through him for if when we were enemies we were reconciled to God by the death of his son much more being reconciled we shall be saved by his life. And not only so but we also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ by whom we have now received the atonement. Wherefore as by one man sin entered into the world and death by sin and so death passed upon all men for that all have sinned. For until the law sin was in the world but sin is not imputed when there is no law. Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses even over them that had not sinned after the similitude of Adam's transgression who is the figure of him that was to come. But not as the offense so also is the free gift for if through the offense of one many be dead much more the grace of God and the gift of grace which is by one man Jesus Christ hath abounded unto many. And not as it was by one that sinned so is the gift for the judgment was by one to condemnation but the free gift is of many offenses unto justification for if by one man's offense death reigned by one much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one Jesus Christ. Therefore as by the offense of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life. For as by one man sins disobedience many were made sinners so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous moreover the law entered that the offense might abound but where sin abounded grace did much more abound that as sin hath reigned unto death even so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord. Let us pray. Dear Heavenly Father Lord thank you to be gathered in your house tonight Lord I just pray that we could learn from your word and I pray that you fill our pastor with your spirit in Jesus name. Amen. Amen. So you're there in Romans chapter five and we are going to be getting back to Romans chapter five actually there's a lot in there I want to hit on but go to 1 Corinthians chapter 15 and I'm going through this kind of series I'm not sure how exhaustive I'm going to be with this series because there's so many different allegories essentially the allegories of the New Testament and Old Testament dealing with allegories of different people that we see in the Old Testament actually someone commented on that sermon with another one that I didn't even think of which was with Hannah and Peninnah and just that allegory and dealing with the promise of Samuel and all that stuff and I don't know how far I'm going to go and just diving into this and everything else but that one wasn't even on my radar and like I said there's probably some other ones that I haven't thought of but so we kind of hit the one that was very clearly laid out as an allegory which is Sarah and Hagar which kind of goes into Ishmael and Isaac as being the allegories of the Old Testament and New Testament and that clearly just says that in Galatians chapter four it says this is an allegory for these are the two covenants the one on Mount Sinai which gendered the bond which is Hagar right so and so that one just spells out that hey Sarah and Hagar are allegories obviously for the New Testament and Old Testament Sarah would represent the New Testament and Hagar would represent the Old Testament Ishmael represents the Old Testament Isaac represents the New Testament and that one's clearly laid out now another one that I want to mention is dealing with Adam and Jesus or as the Bible will say the first Adam and the last Adam okay now let's look at that first Corinthians chapter 15 first Corinthians chapter 15 I was actually going to have this be read at the beginning but I'm like that's a long chapter and I'm already long-winded as it is so we don't need to make the service any longer than it is but obviously I'm gonna be going to Romans chapter 5 as well and there's actually some stuff I want to hit on there as far as this allegory dealing with the man Adam the first man that was created out of the dusty earth and the Lord Jesus Christ and you know how these represent how these would you know be an allegorical picture of the Old Testament and New Testament okay in verse 20 so in first Corinthians chapter 15 verse 20 says but now is Christ risen from the dead and become the firstfruits of them that slept for since by man came death by man came also the resurrection of the dead for as in Adam all die even so in Christ all we made alive so in this chapter we kind of see this dichotomy if you will of Adam and Christ death resurrection and you'll see this condemnation being associated with Adam I mean when you think of Adam what do you think of you think of the fall of man you think of sin you think of sin entering into the world when you think of Adam and then when you think of the Lord Jesus Christ you think of the resurrection I am the resurrection and the light and that he is basically you know taking care of that that first Adam if you will you say well your call on Jesus the last Adam you know how how dare you say that he's the last Adam well the Bible calls him that okay and that that's what I want to get to here is that you're gonna have the first and second Adam if you will okay and I love this allegory because what I'm going to show you let me read this first and show you where it says this go down to verse 42 verse 42 verse 42 it says so also is the resurrection of the dead it is sown in corruption it is raised in incorruption it is sown in dishonor it is raised in glory it is it is sown in weakness it is raised in power it is sown a natural body it is raised a spiritual body there is a natural body and there is a spiritual body so we're talking about the resurrection of the dead and saying you know well where's this come from basically talking about the fact that your natural body is going to die but it's going to be changed into a spiritual body that's the kind of the whole premise here of what's being said and it's stating that there is a natural body and there is a spiritual body but then it goes on to say in verse 45 it says as it is written the first man Adam was made a living soul so if you remember the story when Adam was created he breathed into Adam the breath of life and he became a living soul okay that you're going all the way back to Genesis on this at the very beginning then it says the last Adam was made a quickening spirit so the question you have to ask yourself is who we talking about well throughout this chapter we've been dealing with Adam and Jesus and that dichotomy there but you have the first Adam which was the man that was made out of the dusty earth breathed into him the breath of life and he became a living soul but the last Adam was made a quickening spirit how be it in verse 46 how be it that was not first which is spiritual but that which is natural afterward that which is spiritual the first man is of the earth earthy the second man is the Lord from heaven and then it says as is the earthy so are they also that are earthy and as and as is the heavenly such as I'm sorry such are they also that are heavenly and as we have borne the image of the earthy we shall also bury the image of the heavenly so what are we saying here well there's the first Adam which is the physical man that God created but then there's the last Adam which is the Lord Jesus Christ which is God in the flesh okay and and it says that the first man is of the earth the second man is the Lord from heaven so if you want a verse on Jesus being God here's one for you that second man is talking about the man Christ Jesus he's the Lord from heaven now what I like about this allegory if you will is how it puts first and second first and last okay I know I've hit on this before but the New Testament is the Last Testament the everlasting covenant it there's not going to be another and like I said when you're going through these allegories you're gonna see something that's very similar there's two there's two covenants there's the Old Covenant and New Covenant and in this allegory it hits it that you have the first Adam and you have the last Adam you have the first man and the second man but that second man is the last man right so when you're dealing with these covenants you're dealing with that yeah the New Covenant is the second covenant okay just to recap that real quick for you go to Hebrews chapter 8 that the New Covenant is called the second covenant I just want this to be really nailed down with with this allegory series is that the New Covenant is the last one okay there's not another one coming there's not another testament of Jesus Christ there's not some other covenant that God's going to make with with the children of Israel at some point no you're if you're the only company he's making with children of Israel is when they believe on Lord Jesus Christ in there in Christ and there's neither Jew nor Gentile that's the Covenant okay now in Hebrew chapter 8 verse 7 it says for the first covenant had for had the first I'm sorry for if the first covenant had been faultless then should no place have been sought for the second and then it goes on to say finding fault with them right talking about the people or the problem not God and then it says in Hebrew chapter 10 verse 9 Hebrew chapter 10 verse 9 talking about the Lord Jesus coming it says then said he lo I come to do thy will O God he taketh away the first that he may establish the second and the thing that I love about this allegory of the first Adam last Adam is that that second that's established is the last one okay and you say well why do you keep hitting on that who thinks that there's another covenant Zionists do not only do Zionists believe that there's an overlap in the Old Testament and New Testament because they say well you know the Jews they're under the Old Testament no he taketh away the first that he may establish the second so for them to be under the first covenant that means that the second hasn't been established yet and that's blasphemous second of all they'll go to Romans chapter 11 where it says this is my covenant with them and basically it talks about the deliverer coming the Redeemer and he shall it says this is my covenant with them when I shall take away all their sins they'll say well see there's this covenant that's coming and it's going to be to the Jews and you know what that covenant is with them no this is the last covenant that the New Testament is the last and this just really nails that down now go back to Romans chapter 5 Romans chapter 5 this sermon could be really short actually I don't know I actually have three pages here so I don't know how to feel about that amen but I was a little longer this morning so I'll take it so but Romans chapter 5 Romans chapter 5 and really you know this is kind of throughout the Bible dealing with Adam and and obviously the fact that he sinned and dealing with the Old Testament what does the Old Testament represent that's what I really want to get to with this sermon is that the Old Testament represents the law and it represents transgression if you will and the fact that Adam transgressed but Romans chapter 5 here I want you to see what it says it says in verse 12 wherefore as by one man sin entered into the world and death by sin so that so death passed upon all men for that all have sinned now it's gonna explain what it means here but it basically saying one man sin which and caused sin to enter into the world now this is very interesting because Eve's the first person to sin right right Adam was not to see but the woman being deceived was in a transgression so she sinned but sin did not pass upon all men until Adam did okay it comes through man this is why it's important also to understand that Mary obviously was a sinner but sin did not pass through Mary to Jesus see he was made of a woman and that's very important for that reason but going on from this is that it's basically stating that death passed upon all men but it's they didn't just die because Adam sinned way back yonder and they never sinned okay we're in West Virginia we can say that right way back yonder but he's stating that all have sinned okay for all of sin to come show the glory of God okay and it's going to explain it says never it says for until the law sin was in the world but sin is not imputed when there is no law and this is interesting because the law sin is the transgression against the law right but it's saying sin was in the world before the law Moses was given okay but there was still a law of the conscience the laws of God were there they just weren't written down like they were in Moses okay we're gonna get to that as far as why the Old Testament was instituted why the law was given through Moses and all these statutes and ordinances were given there's a reason why it was but that doesn't mean that no one sinned be you know between Adam and Moses no one sinned okay no it's saying no everybody sinned between there and people were dying between there but then it goes on to say verse 14 it says nevertheless death rained from Adam to Moses even over them that had not sinned after the similitude of Adam's transgression so what it's stating there is that they didn't sin like Adam sinned right the similitude meaning like in like manner as far as Adam sinned right they sinned everybody has sinned right but they didn't sin like they didn't do Adam sin okay but notice what says here he says after the similitude of they you know even over them that had not sinned after similitude of Adam's transgression who is the figure of him that was to come here's our allegory who's the figure Adam Adam is the figure of him sorry of him that was to come meaning Christ now this is a term this figure or similitude or shadow is used over and over again to talk about how the Old Testament was to foreshadow what was going to come in the New Testament because it talks about how used to build this this temp with this tabernacle after the similitude of that which is already in heaven right a figure for a time then present that's something that's used a lot in Hebrews a shadow of things to come but not the very image of the thing you know like the image of the things but not the very things themselves and the idea is that the Old Testament tabernacle you know what that represents the tabernacle that's in heaven you know the Ark of the Covenant you know that represents the Ark of the Covenant in heaven it's the physical to represent the spiritual over and over and over again Adam is the physical man that's the similitude of of who Jesus is going to be okay now say well how does that apply well think about Adam and Eve okay the idea is that Eve ate of the fruit and obviously Adam didn't pay for her sins but Adam was not deceived by the serpent that means he willingly ate of that fruit knowing you know that his wife is sin and the idea here is that he took sin upon him if you will for his wife you see how that represents Christ and the fact that he became sin for us for the bride of Christ those that would believe on him okay and how that's a similitude now that it doesn't obviously fit perfectly because Adam didn't die for our sins but that idea of basically interceding if you will for his wife and obviously what we're gonna see here is that Adam he's the reason that there's death in the world he's the reason that they're you know all these offenses is by one man okay so Adam gets blamed for all this but you know what that's a part of being a man okay there is a difference between men and women and honestly you know we can all joke about Eve is the first woman that ate man out of house and home we can all joke about that okay but all honesty what does the Bible say because Adam that death reigned upon all men it's because of Adam sin that all this was caused okay and and here's the thing you could say this too with Adam well maybe if he was keeping his wife better then she wouldn't have got deceived by the serpent you know there's it all falls back on us men and that's the way it should be but in this world we wanted to keep pointing fingers at the women as if they're the problem actually you know what if women are not acting like they should be acting they're not in the role that they should be in it's our fault man and you know Adam basically takes that upon him and God puts that upon him okay that's another day now go to verse 15 there and the grammar in this chapter is a little high-end okay so just bear with me on how this is worded verse 15 but not as the offense so also as the free gift for if through the offense of men of one many be dead much more the grace of God that the gift by grace which is by one man Jesus Christ hath abounded on the many that grammar is a little tricky okay but the idea here is that it's not as the offense because the free gift and the offense are two opposite things okay that's what it's saying it's not as the offense because it's a free gift it's you know they're different things but they're very well related is what's being stated here Adam and Jesus are very well related because by his one offense he condemned the whole world but Jesus you know act of you know dying on the cross for our sins and rising in a third day that what he did saves the whole world do you see how it's basically putting that into a dichotomy is that Adam condemned the world Jesus saved the world Adam committed an offense that condemned you know that sin came upon all men Jesus righteousness is actually what's going to take away all those offenses so that's a good example of the Old Testament New Testament the Old Testament is the fact that hey here's all these laws that we can't keep and in the Old Testament is to show you you can't keep it because if you offend in one point you're guilty of all the Bible says and you know what the law shows us that we're sinners the law shows us that we had we don't have a chance we don't have a chance that that's the way that we have to go in order to be saved or in order to be just and righteous but keep reading there in verse 16 says is not as it was by one that sins so is the gift for the judgment was by one to condemnation but the free gift is of many offenses under justification for if by one man's offense death reign by one much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one Jesus Christ therefore as by the offense of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation and he even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life for as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous moreover the law entered here's why it entered the law of Moses entered why that the offense might abound but where sin abounded grace did much more bound here it's given you a reason you know why did the law why what was the point of the first testament what was the point of the Old Testament if God knew that that wasn't gonna save anybody and he knew that that was going to fail which he did he knew this the whole point of this sermon series to show you that this was the plan from the beginning and there's a reason why he did it this way it's not like I'm gonna try this route well I didn't work let's go this way no this was put into place for a reason and the first testament was to show that the offense might abound why so it's evident you know when you look through a few Commandments you may say well you know did I have I committed that let's say you had thou shall not murder and now shall I not commit adultery for example let's say you had those two Commandments you're like well I know I shouldn't do that people could look at that and be like well you know I haven't committed that have I now we know that the Bible says if you're angry with your brother without a cause and you committed a murderer in your heart and if you look upon a woman to lust after her in your heart then you committed adultery already in your heart so good luck with those those now but on the surface if you just had those kind of big Commandments right there you may be like well you know have I really offended have I sinned now look at Exodus and look through Leviticus and look through Numbers and look through Deuteronomy and then tell me that you're sinless okay does that make sense like what the law does is it makes it very evident you're a sinner it makes it very evident that you're guilty okay that's the point you say what's the point of having this covenant where people were where they all fail that's the point to show you that they fail that's the point the whole Testament is a is a failure on man's part and it points you to show you hey we fail we can't do it we need to save you obviously people were saved in the Old Testament by believing on Christ but before the law was given obviously there was still there's still laws okay don't let people sell you this bill of goods like wow they didn't have anything well the Bible says that the law of God is written in their hearts and they do by nature the things that are contained in the law so that's not true but also no there was laws given to you know other people in the Bible like Noah and the fact of the law the fact that you can't just if you kill somebody in cold blood you're to be put to death I mean those laws were there but the law of Moses was to make it evident to make the offense abound okay but notice that where the offensive bounds grace did much more bound that means that grace will cover it okay so when you see this picture here it's very clear that you see this dichotomy between Adam and Jesus now go to go to Genesis chapter 3 Genesis chapter 3 and verse 6 Genesis chapter 3 and verse 6 so let's go all the way back to where Adam sins because we're talking about the fall of man we're talking about this this offense that he does Genesis chapter 3 and verse 6 what I want to show you here is that basically when they eat this fruit what do they do immediately after they eat this fruit okay verse 6 here says and when the woman saw that the tree was good for food and that it was pleasant to the eyes and a tree to be desired to make one wise she took of the fruit thereof and did eat and gave also unto her husband with her and he did eat and the eyes of them both were open and they knew not I'm sorry and they knew that they were naked and they sowed fig leaves together and made themselves aprons okay so when they sin what was the immediate thing that they tried to do to fix it they sowed fig leaves together and made themselves clothing okay so obviously it's talking about aprons but basically they made themselves clothing out of fig leaves now go down to verse 21 what does God do though it says in verse 21 and unto Adam also and to his wife did the Lord God make coats of skins and clothed them see a difference see Adam and Eve tried to make themselves clothing but God gave them clothing see the difference see keeping the law and living in the law says he that liveth in them or he that doeth them shall live in them here's the problem no one can actually do that you know when it comes to keeping the commandments of God it talks about in Deuteronomy and it reiterates that and in Galatians chapter 3 but then Galatians chapter 3 says whosoever's of the works of the law are under the curse unless you continue all things which are written in the book of the law to do them so unless you do it all you're cursed and when it comes to the the first thing that that man tries to do is try to fix it themselves tries to clothe themselves but what you really need to do is you need to make your garments white by the blood of the lamb and the coat of skin that he gives them is representing that blood sacrifice that has to be made and it's interesting because when Adam sins when he starts giving condemnation to man and woman and obviously there's gonna be a curse upon the earth he gives the solution in there okay so they make fig leaves try to cover themselves in between that and when he clothes them with coats of skin notice what says verse 14 and it says and the Lord God sent it to the serpent because thou has done this thou are cursed upon above all cattle and above every beast of the field upon thy belly shalt thou go and and dust shalt thou eat all the days thy light and I will put enmity between thee and the woman and between thy seed and her seed it shall bruise thy head and now shall bruise his heel so that seed of the woman is the Lord Jesus Christ the that he was made of a woman made under the law to redeem them that were under the law that was promised first of all it's promised before the foundation of the world okay I hit those verses last week that he is for ordained before the foundation of the world but was manifesting these last times for you but even right after the fall God is prophesying saying hey you know what I'm gonna put enmity between thee and the woman meaning the serpent and the woman and between her seed and thy seed her seed would represent Christ he that was gonna be born of a woman and the Lord Jesus Christ and then thy seed would be the children of the devil that's another sermon for another day not just unsaved people but children of the devil and there's gonna be a clash between those that are in Christ children of God and those that are children of the devil but that being said is that he gives that promise of the Messiah coming of that covenant that he's gonna make with them and notice in actually have that verse there anyway there was another verse that I was going to show there but for sake of time here basically this promise of the Christ that was going to come that shows here in this allegory of Adam and Jesus Jesus is mentioned in Genesis chapter 3 if you look for what we're talking about here with this prophecy of the seed that's to come and Galatians chapter 3 is we're going to point this out okay now Galatians chapter 3 Galatians chapter 3 obviously I kind of already hit on this a little bit as far as how we're not saved by the works of law but by the hearing of faith this is really it's really simple okay I mean obviously this term is very simple to the core Adam represents transgression the law the first covenant man failed man can't make an apron you know or a man can't you know get there by doing making his own clothing God has to make you that clothing God is the one that has to redeem you God is the one that has to be that sacrifice and you know Genesis kind of hits that from where Adam tries to make the fig leaf apron promises that Christ is going to come and then he closed them and then obviously they get kicked out the garden but that that's because obviously they're going to be in this cursed world and live in it and die and they're going to return to the dust but spiritually speaking I believe Adam and Eve are saved they've been cleansed God cleansed them and that that coat of skin represents that a new garment that's given to them and so in Galatians chapter 3 and verse 10 here it says for as many as are of the works of law are under the curse for it is written curses everyone that continue and continue with not in all things are written in the book of law to do them but that no man is justified by the law and the sight of God it is evident for the just shall live by faith and the law is not a faith but the man that do with them shall live in them do you see this dichotomy of faith and law okay meaning this is that the law is not a faith meaning that you can't mix these two together just as much as and if by grace and is it no more of works otherwise grace is no more grace and if it be of works and isn't no more grace otherwise work is no more work you know you can't mix these two together and you can't mix like doing the works of law and faith and it's stating here that the man that do with them what the works of law shall live in them but here's a problem if you don't continue on all things written in the book of law to do them then you're cursed and I remember you know going through that the whole Mennonite thing as far as how they try to say well the works that we don't have the key that's just talking about the customary laws and dietary laws of the Old Testament and that's what it's talking about there yeah in your own time look up where verse 10 where it's quoted in Deuteronomy chapter 27 and then look at the list of things where it says cursed be the man that does this cursed to be the man that does this and at the end it says cursed is everyone that can continue with not in all things was written in the book of law do them and then tell me those are just customary because those are moral laws that they're talking about there okay so we're talking about not at works we're talking about moral law we're talking about thou shall not kill we're talking about thou shall not commit adultery we're talking about thou shall not steal thou shall not bear false witness we're talking about moral law and you know what that is if you're gonna do go that way then you have to live in them and no one will live up to that for because there's none righteous no not one there's not a man and there's not a just man upon earth that do it good and sin is not okay you find there is that person has sin they will sin later on but even if they never sinned again after after that one time that they sin that one sin will send them to hell you know you you can't have one single sin on you and your good works does not atone for that now keep reading there it says in verse 13 Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law being made a curse for us for it is written cursed is everyone that hangeth on a tree that the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith so he became a curse for us and it kind of represents a little bit remember how Adam is the figure of him that was to come and how Adam essentially took the curse of that sin upon him when Eve sinned okay but Romans 5 is basically saying okay it's not as the offense because obviously Jesus is the opposite of this right so it's kind of like a what's the word I'm looking for anti-type does that make sense meaning that Adam sinned in order to take this curse upon him Jesus never did any sin but took the sin upon him okay Adam caused all the world to be under sin Jesus caused all the world to be able to be free from it okay so it's kind of like an anti-type if you look at it that way because obviously there is a difference between Adam and Jesus you know you have the physical spiritual you have the man that's made out of thus the earth you have the Lord from heaven so there's obviously a stark difference between the two but there are similarities or figures if you will of what they did compared to what Jesus did in Romans 5 it kind of is hitting on how it's kind of the opposite it's like the complete opposite of how Adam condemned everybody Jesus justifies you know and going down line it verse 19 go to verse 19 so you're in Galatians chapter 3 and verse 19 it says wherefore then serve at the law that's the question that you have to ask and I guess when I go through these these these allegories is the question is what was the point of the first testament what was the point of the Old Testament and a lot of people are just confused on that and they're like well you know well in the Old Testament they had to do the sacrifices in order to be saved and and you know they had to do all this stuff in order to go to heaven and in the New Testament you don't have to do that anymore that's wrong the blood of bulls and a ghost will never take away sins the Bible says no actually the the sacrifices were for the purifying of the flesh they were to get you right with God okay but they never they never purified the conscience that's what Hebrew lays Hebrews lays out perfectly clear so then you ask yourself well why did he instituted okay what you know was it just so that you can have a way of getting in fellowship with God well it represents something everything that's in the Old Testament when you go through Exodus and all the tabernacle stuff when you go through all the stuff that the priests are wearing when you go through all the different sacrifices that they were doing every single thing that God was commanding them had a figure and some kind of picture that it represents okay it all points to what Jesus was going to do so and you know I'm not gonna go through all those pictures but I mean you could just go through the list as far as what it's representing what's the figure of that but when I think about the law and I think about the First Testament the big thing that I see is that man fails man fails there's fault with man man can't do it you can't do it I can't do it no man can do it there's none righteous no not one and the first covenant proves that to a T has anybody read the Old Testament I mean have you read through judges and how well did they do how many times you go back and forth like a ping-pong ball as far as being all right we're gonna get right with God no we're not now we're gonna get right with God no we're not and then you then you read later on you're like and they'll say something to the effect of they haven't kept the Feast of Tabernacles since Joshua and you're in Ezra right you're like it you're reading Ezra or Nehemiah you know they're rebuilding the temple yeah after the 70-year captivity you're like yeah they haven't kept this feast since the days of Joshua and you're like what in the world they have feasts of the Lord right you read that in Leviticus 23 did you know that they they didn't keep that feast since the days of Joshua until they like built the new temple coming up you know after Cyrus decree and everything and then you're like yeah they failed how do you miss that you know you look back at it you're like how did you not keep that feast at all from that point from Joshua to where you're at there I mean hundreds of years we're just like nope I mean and you're dealing with good Kings through that I mean think of David Solomon Josiah Hezekiah not in order obviously so you don't like crucify me later be like I know that Josiah comes after Hezekiah the idea there is that they failed but what was the what's what point what was the point of what wherefore then serve at the law verse 19 it was added because of transgressions till the seed should come to whom the promise was made and it was ordained by the angels in the hand of a mediator now a mediator is not a meteor of one but God is one so it's basically saying it was added because of transgressions till the seed should come who's what seed are we talking about that seed of Abraham that seed her seed that's mentioned in Genesis chapter 3 is basically saying the law was added you know since Adam to Moses people sinned and people were breaking the law but the law Moses was added why why was it added well and in Romans chapter 5 just so I don't misquote it here Romans chapter 5 moreover the law entered that the offense might abound and it says in Romans chapter 7 and verse 12 Romans chapter 7 verse 12 it says wherefore then wherefore the law is holy and the commandment holy and just and good was then that which is good made death unto me God forbid but sin that it might appear sin worketh death to me by that which is good that sin by the commandment might become exceeding sinful the point of the law is to show you how much of a sinner you really are that makes sense it gives the knowledge of sin so the more all that God gives us the more knowledge that the world has that hey we've sent and we've broken God's commandments and obviously when to whom much is given much is required though so when that law is given actually more is required to people because they now they have more of God's laws to know what's going on and as much as you are in church today more that you come to church the more you read your Bible the more you you you listen to preaching the more you know the more God's gonna hold you accountable to that too so you're like well I'm leaving now you know I don't want to hold up to that standard but obviously you don't want to be ignorant you don't want to be just you know sinning in ignorance okay I'd rather have the choice of you know keeping God's commandments or sinning presumptuously then just being ignorant about everything that God wants me to do okay so but in Galatians chapter 3 again it says that in verse verse 21 it says is the law then against the promises of God right because you have to ask like I said you asked this question you're like why is this step in here right why not just bring Christ in save us from our sins and then we're good right but there's a reason there's a reason why he did the first covenant there's a reason why he gave the law to Moses and it's spelling it out for us it says here it says is the law then against the promises of God God forbid for if there had been a law given which could have given life verily righteous should have been by law you know what this tell tells me is that there isn't a law given that can give life and if that were possible that's the way he would have went remember when Jesus was you know in the Garden of Gethsemane and he's saying to the Father you know if it be possible let this cup pass from me nevertheless not what I will but thy will be done you know and I'm paraphrasing there but basically he's stating if there's anything else that can be done here let it be that way you know what you know what the answer to that is it could only be that way it could only be by Jesus dying on the cross because if it if righteous could come by the law then verily righteous would have been by the law okay because then you know I mean if that were possible I mean sure the father been like well I guess we can go this route you know but obviously that wasn't possible and keep reading there it says but the scripture hath concluded all under sin that the promise by faith of Jesus Christ might be given to them that believe so this just annihilates the idea of work salvation right because the idea here is the fact that if there if there was a law given that could give life if you could keep the commandments there would have been a law but you know what it's stating there isn't why because we've all sinned and what you sinned you're under the curse and once you're into the curse there's no getting out of the curse unless someone redeems you from that curse and that's the Lord Jesus now I was gonna read a little bit more than I didn't put in my notes so my note my notes for this sermon are not if you want my notes for the sermon I'll put it in a rat on it later on because there's a lot that I'm like I was gonna hit on that and I didn't have that in there what I wanted to hit on was the fact that after you get to that verse in verse verse 22 there it says but where but before faith came we were kept under the law shut up unto the faith which should afterwards be revealed wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ that we might be I'm sorry to bring us unto Christ that we might be justified by faith but after that faith has come we are no longer under a schoolmaster for you're all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus so the idea here is that what is the purpose of the law it's a schoolmaster to bring us to Christ the law gives you the knowledge of sin to realize all I'm guilty isn't it was what we do out so winning we take the law and say hey first thing you need to know we're all sinners and let me show you a law that shows you that you sin because sin is the transgression of law well have you ever told a lie before everybody has because like God be true and every man a liar so we've all at least done that but then you go don't be a great comfort over here where you're just going down like this this laundry list of sins I don't want to know all your sins you know but that being said is that as long as they realize hey I have sinned okay now you know what that law did it was a schoolmaster to show them that they're guilty before God and then we show them the punishment to show them okay you're guilty but what does that mean okay well for the wages of sin is death and you know what all liars shall have their part in the lake which burns the fire and brimstone which is the second death all right now we realize we're condemned we realize that we're guilty of sin against God and we're guilty and we're gonna we're gonna spend an eternity in hell if we don't have this fixed and that's where that schoolmaster brings you on to all we need a Savior and now it's by believing the Lord Jesus Christ now shall be safe so what's the point of the Old Testament it's to point you to the Savior everything about the Old Testament is the point you to the Savior how does it do that it shows you that you are incapable of saving yourself with man is not capable of actually doing any of those ordinances to the T and it shows you that we fail as men and women okay but go to Romans chapter 3 Romans chapter 3 just to show you another spot here with this I know I'm preaching to the choir when it comes to salvation by grace and not by works but ultimately the Old Testament represents the works of the law the New Testament represents truth and grace grace faith eternal life the Old Testament represents condemnation we'll see that the last passage I'm going to show you after Romans 3 here is going to show you this to a T so in Romans chapter 3 verse 19 it says now we know that we what things so ever the law says it said to them who are under the law that every mouth may be stopped and all the world may become guilty before God so what's the point of the law that those that are under the law may stop their mouths right and just realize they're guilty that's the point of law now we that are saved are no longer under the law we're under grace okay that's what the Bible teaches and then people take that way too well don't put me on the law brother I'm under grace and therefore I can do whatever I want now well listen spiritually speaking yes because you're saved your soul and your spirit is completely cleansed you're under grace and you're going to heaven no matter what but your body is still under the law okay because your body is still simple so you're gonna have consequences if you go that route okay but so that's why you know so important that it why we're here in the flesh that we look at the law and try to keep the perfect law of Liberty or we're gonna be judged by the law of Liberty in the flesh okay in this life but keep reading there in verse 20 it says therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in this sight for by the law is the knowledge of sin you know what you get insert there the Old Testament that no flesh shall be justified by the Old Testament in his sight but it's the knowledge of sin you know a lot of times in the Bible Jesus will equate you know the Old Testament to the law the law and the prophets right the law and the prophets and it will kind of mention the law on the problem of Moses and the prophets right and the idea there is that you know what Exodus you know Leviticus number Deuteronomy that's the law that was given to Moses and you know what the Bible is teaching here that you're not gonna be justified by that and no one was justified by that and then keep reading there in verse 21 but now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested being witnessed by the law of the prophets so let me ask you this is that's just a New Testament thing that were that the the righteousness of God is without the law because it says it's witnessed by the law and the prophets right if someone's gonna say well and that's the New Testament thing they're the ones witnessing it I mean isn't it in Genesis 15 where it says Abraham believed God and is imputed on him for righteousness and when it speaks about that it says but the him that worketh not but believeth on him to justify the ungodly his faith is kind of a righteousness David also described the blessings of the man unto whom God imputed righteous without works I mean the law and the prophets all testify that the righteousness of God is without works but the law is our schoolmaster to bring us onto that understanding okay it's the knowledge of sin it shows us hey we're sinners we can't get we can't if we're gonna have our own righteousness well your righteousnesses are as filthy rags to the Lord then so have fun with that and good luck with that but that's not gonna work now keep reading there it says even as even the righteous of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe but there is no difference for all of sin and come short the glory of God being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus whom God has set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his name or through faith in his blood to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are passed through the forbearance of God to declare I say at this time his righteousness that he might be just in the justifier of him I'm sorry of him which believeth in Jesus and then you could even go further in verse 28 it says therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law now this goes into the fact that when we're talking about being saved we're talking about not by our own righteousness which is of the law but that which is through the faith of Christ the righteousness of which is of God by faith Adam you know the picture the figure of Adam is that he put on fig leaves and tried to put on his own righteousness but what did God do he put his righteousness on him okay so Adam is that picture of how what the the first covenant would be which would be okay you keep these commandments and you'll live in them but the Old Testament shows us time and time again that's not possible good at 2 Corinthians chapter 3 and it's the last place I'll show you here but I think this is going to really show you the nail in the coffin as far as this dichotomy here of condemnation and justification you're dealing with something that will that's of death and something that's of life Old Testament death condemnation you know it's not giving life New Testament completely opposite okay it's it's life it's a righteousness it's all that and did I mention that it's the last testament because it's the first Adam in the last Adam it's the first man second man it's the first covenant second covenant it's the Old Covenant New Covenant Old Testament New Testament and that New Testament is the everlasting covenant now in 2 Corinthians chapter 3 and verse 1 2 Corinthians chapter 3 verse 1 it says do we begin then or do we begin to commend ourselves or need we as some others epistles of commendation to you or letters of commendation from you ye are our epistles written in our hearts known and ran of all men for as much as ye are manifestly declared to be the epistle of Christ ministered by us written not with ink but with the Spirit of the Living God not in tables of stone but in fleshly tables of the heart and such trust have we through Christ to God word not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think anything as of ourselves but our sufficiency is of God who also have made us able ministers of the New Testament not of the letter but of the Spirit for the letter killeth but the Spirit giveth light here's what you're dealing with when you're doing Old Testament the letter killeth what is that what does the law do it condemns shows you the knowledge of sin shows you that you're a sinner what is the the spirit do on the other hand or was a New Testament do brings life gives life death life Old Testament death New Testament life and if there's some other testament that's supposed to be out there what is it doing because throughout the Bible we have this dichotomy life death blessing cursing bittersweet light darkness heaven hell eternal life eternal damnation it's always this dichotomy and the the covenants are that these are the two covenants okay and it's been the plan from the beginning and there's reasons why it was done the way it was done now keep reading there in verse 7 it says but if the ministration of death written engraving and stones was glorious what are we talking about talking about the Old Testament we're talking about the Ten Commandments written engraving on stones what is it called the ministration of death written engraving and stones was glorious so that the children of Israel could not steadfastly behold the face of Moses for the glory of his countenance which glory was to be done away you say well how's it glorious if it's administration of death the law is good the commandment is holy and that's something that's been said throughout these passages I'm showing you is like it's good it's holy but it slew me but it showed me I'm a sinner but it condemned me the law is not sin the law is true and holy and just and righteous but we're sinners and that law that righteous law shows us that we're sinners okay so in turn that law that was given ministered unto death because it showed hey you're you're going to die you're going to perish in verse verse 8 there says how how shall I'm sorry how shall not the ministration of spirit be rather glorious so notice this dichotomy the ministration of death the ministration of the spirit remember it says that what the letter kills but the spirit giveth life keep reading there it says for if the ministration of condemnation be glory much more that the ministration of righteousness exceed in glory you know what this means the ministration of righteousness is better it's greater this is something that's a common theme when we go through when you go through Hebrews where it calls the New Testament the better Testament the better covenant because it's established upon better promises because it's better okay for many reasons that I will not get into tonight that the New Testament better one you can eat bacon and if there's anything that you can take away from this sermon is that I'm glad I'm in the New Testament because I can eat bacon but that being said in verse 10 there it says for even that which was made glorious glorious had no glory in this respect by reason of the glory that exceleth for if that which is done away was glorious much more that which remain at this glorious now this shows you what was done away the ministration of death what was done away the ministration of condemnation what is that the Old Testament do you notice that it says is done away Paul's writing this in first century AD and what does he say it is done away verse 12 it says seeing then that we have such hope we use great plainness of speech and the point of this sermon the point of this series to be very plain about this I hope there's no doubt that you know where I stand on what I think about what the Old Testament represents whether someone was ever saved in the Old Testament as far as by the Old Testament people were saved in the Old Testament people were saved before the Old Testament people are saved after the Old Testament but they were all saved the same way by faith by faith in Christ it's always been that way and the the Old Testament never saved anyone the Old Testament you know what it did it condemned you know what it did it killed and not that not that the Old Testament was wicked because everything that God commanded was righteous and true altogether just the fact that he found fault with man now I'll keep reading there and where did I leave off verse 12 yes so we want to use great plainness of speech and I love this because this is very clear what he's stating here verse 13 and not as Moses which put a veil over his face that the children of Israel could not steadfastly look to the end of that which is established which is which is abolished but their minds were blinded for until this day remain at that same the same veil untaken away in the reading of the what Old Testament so if you thought if you didn't think they were talking about the Old Testament that's what we're talking about the letter that killeth the the ministration of death the ministration of condemnation which is the Old Testament that is done away that is abolished and what does it say which veil is done away in Christ but even up to this day when Moses is red the veil is upon their heart nevertheless when it shall turn to the Lord the veil shall be taken away now the Lord is that spirit and where the Spirit of Lord is there is Liberty but we all with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord are changed into the same image from glory to glory even as by the Spirit of the Lord and I just want to kind of finish all that chapter because those verses are awesome but that being said what are we dealing with here we're dealing with the fact that Moses you know put a veil over his face when the law was given in the Old Testament but that veil is taken away in Christ and here's the truth of matter the Old Testament is more veiled than the New Testament the New Testament is revealed it's it's better I mean the Old Testament is good it's glorious you know what that means the New Testament is more glorious okay it's more revealed why because you're dealing with the Son of God you have Moses who's veiling himself and how Adam would represent the Old Testament in fact that it's man and obviously the Old Testament is written by God so don't get me wrong here okay all the men of God spake is their move by the Holy Ghost but when you're reading the Old Testament it is more cryptic it's more veiled if you go to Daniel it will say this is you know sealed until the time appointed in New Testament you go to Revelation it's like oh this is not sealed don't seal this book the times at hand this needs to be revealed that being said is that the Old Testament is going to be that way the New Testament shines light on the Old Testament and just as much as Adam represents the physical you know aspect of man the last Adam the second man is the Lord Jesus Christ and he represents you know you think the natural body the spiritual body and you think about the fact that we're going to you know from from glory to glory we're gonna be like him where he's gonna make our vile body to be made like unto his glorious body we're gonna have a spiritual body like him in the resurrection and that shows with Adam to Jesus that allegory how Adam is the similitude if you will the the picture the figure of Christ and that allegorical aspect of the law and grace of death and life and that is you know a clear allegory here that that I think helps us understand aspects of the Old Testament New Testament and so when we go through these allegories my hope is that as we go through you understand more and more why we had an Old Testament why there was an Old Testament why there were covenants it'll help you understand the fact that like in this case if there's anything to take away is that the New Testament is the last testament you know you can understand that in that allegory and just understand just different things maybe about the characters as far as Adam and the fact that hey there's actually a lot more symbolic things about what happened with Adam that maybe even if it's an anti-type of Christ it's it shows maybe in the you know what's the word I'm looking for anyway inverse what where's my math guy what do you do the inverse you know basically anyway never mind it's anti-type the idea is that it's basically the complete opposite of the other but when you have complete opposites you see the similarities at the same time okay and with Adam and Jesus you see that who's called the first Adam and the last Adam and so I thought that'd be a good one to go through like I said I'm not sure how how I guess how many I'm gonna go through with these because I don't want this to be too redundant okay because I'm kind of hitting on these same points so I might I might skip some that are clearly ones the point is is to see in these allegories to help you understand the Old Testament New Testament relationship more okay and if there's one that just doesn't have a lot that's gonna really show you a lot of that I might not hit on that or maybe I'll just touch on it real quick but hopefully these help and help you to understand the relationship between the Old Testament New Testament let's end with a word of prayer the only father we thank you today thank you for your word and just pray to be with us throughout the rest of this week and pray to keep us healthy keep us safe and Lord help us to bring glory to your name and Lord we love you in prayer in Jesus Christ's name amen well they will come and sing one more song and will be dismissed all right song 125 in your song books song 125 if you would stand we'll sing the solid rock song 125 my hope is built on nothing less than Jesus blood and righteousness I dare not trust the sweetest frame but holy lean on Jesus
