2nd Chronicles chapter number 29 and we'll have brother Levi come and read that for us all right 2nd Chronicles chapter 29 hezekiah began to rain when he was five and 20 years old and he rained nine and 20 years in Jerusalem and his mother's name was Abijah the daughter of Zechariah and he did that which was right in the sight of the Lord according to all that David his father had done he in the first year of his reign in the first month opened the doors of the house of the Lord and repaired them and he brought in the priests and the Levites and gathered them together into the street and said unto them hear me you Levites sanctify now yourselves and sanctify the house of the Lord God of your fathers and carry forth the filthiness out of the holy place for our fathers have trespassed and done that which was evil in the eyes of the Lord our God and have forsaken him and have turned away their faces from the habitation of the Lord and turn their backs and they have shut up the doors of the porch and put out the lamps and have not burned incense nor offered burnt offerings in the holy place unto the God of Israel wherefore the wrath of the Lord was upon Judah and Jerusalem and he hath delivered them to trouble to astonishment and a hissing as you see with your eyes for lo our fathers have fallen by the sword and our sons and our daughters and our wives are in captivity for this now it is in mine heart to make a covenant with the Lord God of Israel that his fierce wrath may turn away from us my sons be not now negligent for the Lord hath chosen you to stand before him to serve him and that you should minister unto him and burn incense then the Levites arose may have the son of a Maasai and Joel the son of Azariah of the sons of the coethites and of the sons of Marari Kish the son of Abdi and as Azariah the son of Jeheliel and of the Gershonites Jonah the son of Zimma and Eden the son of Joah and of the sons of Elizaphan Shemri and Jael and of the sons of Asaph Zechariah and Mattaniah and of the sons of Heman Jehiel and Shema and of the sons of Jeduthun Shemaiah and Uzziel and they gathered their brethren and sanctified themselves and came according to the commandment of the king by the words of the Lord to cleanse the house of the Lord and the priests went into the inner part of the house of the Lord to cleanse it and brought out all the uncleanness that they found in the temple of the Lord into the court of the house of the Lord and the Levites took it to carry it out abroad into the brook Caidron now they began on the first day of the first month to sanctify and on the eighth day of the month came they to the porch of the Lord so they sanctified the house of the Lord in eight days and in the 16th day of the first month they made an end then they went into Hezekiah the king and said we have cleansed all the house of the Lord and the altar of burnt offering with all the vessels thereof and the showbread table with all the vessels thereof moreover all the vessels which King Ahaz in his reign to cast away in his transgression have we prepared and sanctified and behold they are before the altar of the Lord then Hezekiah the king rose early and gathered the rulers of the city and went up to the house of the Lord and they brought seven bullocks and seven rams and seven lambs and seven he goes for a sin offering for the kingdom and for the sanctuary and for Judah and he commanded the priests the sons of Aaron to offer them on the altar of the Lord so they killed the bullocks and the priests received the blood and sprinkled it on the altar likewise when they had killed the rams they sprinkled the blood upon the altar they killed also the lambs and they sprinkled the blood the blood on the off upon the altar and they brought forth the he goes for the sin offering before the king and the congregation and they laid their hands upon them and the priests killed them and they made reconciliation with their blood upon the altar to make an atonement for all Israel for the king commanded that the burnt offering and the sin offering should be made for all Israel and he set the Levites in the house of the Lord with symbols with salt trees and with harps according to the commandment of David and of Gad the king seer and Nathan the prophet for so was the commandment of the Lord by his prophets and the Levites stood with the instruments of David and the priests with the trumpets and Hezekiah commanded to offer the burnt offering upon the altar and when the burnt offering began the song of the Lord began also with the trumpets and with instruments ordained by David king of Israel and all the congregation worshipped and the singer sang and the trumpeter sounded and all it and all this continued until the burnt offering was finished and when they had made an end of offering the king and all that were present with him bowed themselves and worshipped moreover Hezekiah the king and the princes commanded the Levites to sing praise unto the Lord with the words of David and of Asaph the seer and they sang praises and with gladness and they bowed their heads and worshipped then Hezekiah answered and said now ye have consecrated yourselves unto the Lord come near and bring sacrifices and thank offerings into the house of the Lord and the congregation brought in sacrifices and thank offerings and as many as were of a free heart burnt offerings and the number of the burnt offerings which the congregation brought were three score and ten bullocks and a hundred and hundred rams and two hundred lambs all these were burnt for all these were for a burnt offering to the Lord and the consecrated things were six hundred oxen and three thousand sheep but the priest were too few so that they could not play all the burnt offerings wherefore their brother and the Levites did help them till the work was ended and until the other priests had sanctified themselves for the Levites were more upright in heart to sanctify themselves than the priests and also the burnt offerings were in abundance with the fat of the peace offerings and the drink offerings for every burnt offering so the service of the house of the Lord was set in order and Hezekiah rejoiced and all the people that God had prepared and all the people that God had prepared the people for the thing was done suddenly let's pray God thank you for tonight God thank you for the souls that were saved this afternoon God I pray that you be the pastors and preachers and help us to learn something in through this evening Jesus amen amen so you're there in Second Chronicles 29 and we're going to be coming back to this I'm actually using Hezekiah's story to basically explain this next portion of our series here which is a time to every purpose and go back to Ecclesiastes we'll be coming back to this passage and but Ecclesiastes chapter 3 we're going through just each phrase that's that's brought up in this passage here but in Ecclesiastes 3 one it says to everything there is a season and a time to every purpose under the heaven a time to be born a time to die a time to plant a time to pluck up that which is planted time to kill and time to heal a time to break down and a time to build up so that's where we're at right now as far as in the series is a time to break down and a time to build up and I you know the story of Hezekiah just kind of came to mind when I think about the idea of breaking down something or building up something because there's so many different stories in different places you can see where they broke down the altars of Baal and you can think about the idea that there's definitely a time to break down something but then there's also a time to build up and you could look at this physically building up something and physically building a building or building up you know or repairing something which we're gonna see with Hezekiah but when it comes to obviously preaching you can see that there's a time to break down and there's a time to build up a lot of times when it comes to soul winning we have to break down false ideas we had to break down you know false doctrine in order to build up the right doctrine right a lot of times you have to you have to pull down the stuff that's wrong before you can build up the stuff that's right and like I said with these passages it seems like everybody you know the mainstream Christianity they want to focus on the positive because obviously building up something is positive breaking down is negative and so they're always wanting to focus on the building up we just want to build up we don't want to break anything down but I'm gonna show you a case where you can't build up unless you break down in a lot of cases okay now sometimes you can build up because there's nothing to break down you're just starting fresh and you know there's nothing really to break down but when you're dealing with a lot of stuff in the Bible if you're gonna apply this you have to break down things before you can build it up okay but go to 2nd Kings chapter 18 so 2nd Kings 18 and 2nd Chronicles 29 are basically parallel passages dealing with King Hezekiah and King Hezekiah was a righteous king of the king the southern kingdom of Judah and 2nd Kings chapter 18 let's just read about how his reign starts or just what the Bible states about him and when he starts to reign but I want you to see what the first thing that's mentioned about his reign okay notice what it says here in 2nd Kings 18 verse 1 now I came to pass in the third year of Hosea son of Elah king of Israel that Hezekiah the son of Ahaz king of Judah began to reign twenty and five years old was he was he was he when he began to reign and reign twenty and nine years in Jerusalem his mother's name also was Abi the daughter of Zachariah and he did that which was right in the sight of the Lord according to all that David his father did so the Bible is telling us that he did that which was right inside the Lord notice what's the first thing that's mentioned that he did it says in verse 8 he removed the high places and break the images and cut down the groves and break in pieces the brazen serpent that Moses had made for unto those days the children of Israel did burn incense to it and he called it Nahashtan and he trusted in the Lord God of Israel so that after him was none like him among the kings of Judah nor any that were before him so I want you to see that when you're talking about Hezekiah here there was no kings before or after him like him and we we see there's a good you know Josiah comes after him but it's basically saying Hezekiah there was none even Josiah didn't hold up at least in this case to Hezekiah and it says in verse 6 here for he clave to the Lord and departed not from following him but kept his commandments which the Lord commanded Moses and the Lord was with him and he prospered whithersoever he went forth and he rebelled against the king of Assyria and served him not if you're gonna think about Hezekiah the biggest thing you're probably gonna remember or is the story where the king of Assyria comes against him and he wins Assyria the Assyrian Empire was taking over the world at that time and they could not take out that southern kingdom of Judah and Hezekiah and what happens in 2nd Chronicles chapter 29 I believe is the reason why God did not allow the king of Assyria to take out Judah and so I believe Hezekiah was the the main source of reason why there was this if you will a revival that happened in Judah but you know Isaiah covers that story 2nd Kings covers that story and 2nd Chronicles covers that story to the point by the time you get done when you're done with Isaiah you're like I've heard that story a lot right as far as you have is inaccurate the king of Assyria and then you have rapshaki that's coming to the wall and basically telling them that you shouldn't trust in and Hezekiah and if you remember what was the big charge that rapshaki had against Hezekiah or basically when he's talking to the people on the wall it says you're gonna trust in Hezekiah who took down all the high places in the groves of your God just like completely just over the head doesn't even realize that no those groves and high places were not of their God and actually what Hezekiah did was right the outside world looks at and be like oh you're taking down what God said you should be doing because the world always thinks that they know that what what God thinks and what he says they think they know the Bible when they don't and they're all they're constantly trying to say well didn't you know Jesus would do this and and God would do this and it's like not in the Bible it's actually a lot of times opposite of what the Bible teaches and so when you're dealing with Hezekiah you're dealing with a righteous king what's the first thing he does though when he takes office when he basically gets in into when he when he's the king of Judah is that he breaks down he breaks down the the images he takes down the high places in the groves and specifically here it mentions that he breaks in pieces the brazen serpent that Moses had made so if you know in Numbers there was that plague that was upon them that if they were bitten by a serpent that they were gonna die but if they were to look upon the brazen serpent then they would live and obviously that pictures Christ because Jesus says in John chapter 3 as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness even so must the son of man be lifted up that who's ever believed in him should not perish but have eternal life so we know that obviously that what that whole story represented but they turn that that brazen serpent into an idol so there's a case where you're taking something that was something good that that God used and they turned it into an idol and he broke that in pieces he called it in the hushed hand and that's how we start off here now go to 2nd Chronicles chapter 29 2nd Chronicles chapter 29 because the big thing that with Hezekiah before you get to the story of zanacharib is the fact that he cleans house he cleans house and he gets Judah back on track and actually what the Bible is going to teach is that he brings it back to back to Solomon's day as far as them serving the Lord so you think about Solomon's the one that built the temple right and obviously they had the tabernacle before that but he's the one that built the temple and from Solomon to Hezekiah there everything had been falling apart from Rehoboam down the line until you get the Hezekiah that basically they weren't keeping the sacrifices like they should the the temple was basically being defiled and notice what it says here in 2nd Chronicles chapter 29 and verse 3 it says he and he in the first year of his reign in the first month so I'd say we're at the very beginning right in the first year in the first month he is he's gonna he opens the doors of the house of the Lord and repaired them and he brought in the priests and the Levites and gathered them together into the the East Street and said unto them hear me oh ye Levi hear me ye Levi's sanctify now yourselves and sanctify the house of the Lord of Lord God of your fathers and carry forth the filthiness out of the holy place in order to repair it in order to sanctify it the first thing you do is get all the garbage out of it and so they're cleaning house he's cutting down the groves he's breaking down these images he's taking out this brazen serpent and think about that that's like probably a very sacred item to them right the brazen serpent that was in the wilderness you can imagine I mean can you imagine how much that'd be worth right now if you said this is the brazen serpent in the wilderness that Moses made and you put that in a museum think about the worth that that was probably to them back then because I mean you're talking what the brazen serpent that was in the wilderness and where they're at now you're talking hundreds of years you know like over 500 years of time since that happened that they would be looking it'd be like finding something from like the 1500s some like thing that was spoken of and you're like hey you know we found it and he brought he breaks it in pieces so he's cleaning house but the idea here is that he wants to repair the house of the Lord he wants to build it up right he wants to he wants to bring it back to where it was but in order to do that you have to break it down you have to break down the stuff that's that's there that is causing it to need repaired okay now go to Haggai chapter 1 Haggai chapter 1 now Haggai Haggai is dealing with when they come out of captivity so this is way later from where Hezekiah is at we're talking like after the temple destroyed Solomon's temple you know that he built was destroyed and the thing I want to get here is the fact that that we the time is now to build the house of God okay the time is now but the question is how do you do it right how do you build it up how do you and obviously God's the one that builds the church because the church is the house of the living God and God's the one that builds it up but where are the instruments in which he uses in order for the church to be built up and grow okay but the idea here is that in Haggai in verse 1 here it says in the second year of Darius the king in the second month in the first day of the month came the Lord of the Lord by Haggai the prophet unto Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel governor of Judah and to Joshua the son of Josadak the high priest saying thus speaketh the Lord of hosts saying this people say the time has not come the time that the Lord's house should be built and then he's gonna rebuke that you know it says then came the word of Lord by Haggai the prophet saying now that now therefore I'm sorry saying it is time for you oh ye that to dwell in your your seal how is it time for you I'm sorry is it time for you oh ye to dwell in your sealed houses and in this house in this house lay waste so he's basically saying it's time they're saying it's not time to build the house of the Lord whereas Hezekiah I believe is coming on the scene he's like no it is time you're in your sealed houses it's time to build the house of God and they're talking about physically building it here okay obviously what I'm talking about is spiritually speaking but in the case of Hezekiah talking about repairing it so there is some physical building that's going to be going on there but in verse 8 here it says go up to the mountain and bring wood and build the house and I will take pleasure in it and will be glorified said the Lord God so it's time it's time to build a house it's always time for that for the God's house to be built and the first thing that Hezekiah does in order to repair the house of God is to get all the wickedness out get all the filthiness out to break down all the idolatry to break down all the graven images to break down to take down the groves all the high places and the first thing you have to do in order to repair something is to get rid of all the stuff that needs thrown out and go to 2nd Chronicles chapter 29 again 2nd Chronicles chapter 29 you know there's a lot of talk of revival out there you know there's Asbury you know like what do you think of this Asbury Kentucky revival not impressed and that's what I think like so I could tune in and watch someone like do a painting while they're like listening to people like sing on stage or something like that that's not revival what Hezekiah does is revival and what Hezekiah does is he's actually going to work he's rolling up his sleeves he's getting rid of all the false doctrine and all the false idol worship and he brings back you know the Bible into the picture and the commandments of the Lord and he's bringing the Levites in and saying hey sanctify yourselves and then he's also blessing them that teach the knowledge of the Lord the Levi's that's what their job was you have the Levi's that were of the order of Aaron that were the priests but then you had the Levi's that weren't of that line of Aaron that their job was to teach the Word of God they didn't have an inheritance but their job was to teach the Word of God and this is where the revival happens now what I want to point out here is that when he breaks down all this stuff and they're they're sanctifying the house of God they're clean they're cleaning house right and you can think about this when it comes to church is that sometimes you got a clean house you got a clean house with maybe false doctrine that's it in the church or maybe you need a clean house because there's people in the church that are bringing the church down okay meaning let's say let's say I were to step let's say and this isn't gonna happen but let's say there was like some church over here and they're like hey we want you to be our pastor and you know I tell them what I believe they're like yes we want you and I get there it's time to clean house you know but the first thing that you do to clean house is you got to say okay let's let's show you what the real what what true doctrine is according to the Bible and if anybody has false doctrine you know that's going to be against like salvation the King James Bible and the Trinity and just things that are you know crucial doctrines if there's anything in the churches there's people that are gonna teach differently than that out the false doctrine is gonna be out and then you look at okay is there sin in the church is there there are people that are you know first Corinthians chapter 5 you know do we need to clean house when it comes to that and the thing that you have to think about is like revelation when Jesus is speaking to the seven churches what does he keep bringing up negative things right it's like he brings up the positive things but he's saying you need to repent you need to get rid of you know fornication you can get rid of this over here you need to get back to doing the first works over here and if they don't do that then there's gonna be consequences and second Corinthians chapter I'm sorry second Chronicles 29 look at verse 30 there the thing that I want to stay with this is that this can happen quick meaning that this isn't something that well it's gonna take a few years before we can really get this thing going listen if you were to let's say you were to jump into let's say this church over here that's like a Sardis Church okay there's a church that's like they have a name that they live but they're dead meaning like they used to do great things for God but they just kind of like watered down not doing what they should be doing listen you can get that right you could go out soul winning today right you could go over there and say hey let's go soul winning let's go right now and suddenly and what I'm gonna show you here is that what Hezekiah does he does suddenly it's a really quick thing that he does here it meaning this is that you can break down and build up in a very quick manner this doesn't have to be like well it's gonna take about 15 years before we can get all this stuff settled it's like no you know here here's what we're gonna do get it done and notice what it says in verse 30 here it says moreover Hezekiah the king and princess commanded Levi's to sing praise unto the Lord with the words of David and Asaph the seer and they sang praises with gladness and they bowed their heads in worship what are we talking about we're talking about the Psalms right I mean if you went through the the book of Psalms where you gonna see a psalm of David psalm of Asaph and you just go down the line I'm not saying they're the only two but at the same time those are like the major guys the sweet psalmist of Israel David and then you have Asaph that is also you know that wrote Psalms as well obviously it's all God's Word but he's commanding them to sing and praise the Lord with Psalms now in verse 31 here it says and then Hezekiah answered and said now ye have consecrated yourselves unto the Lord come here and bring sacrifices and thank offerings into the house of the Lord and the congregation brought in sacrifices and thank offerings and as many as were of a free heart burn offerings now what is that talking about something called the free will offering so these are things that are done out of their own free will their own involuntary will the Bible says and here it says a free heart so just another one for the Calvinist you don't like well you know but it's the heart though it's not the will well here you go verse 32 and it says in the number of the burnt offerings which the congregation brought was three score and ten bullocks and a hundred rams and two hundred lambs all these were for a burnt offering to the Lord in the con and the consecrated things were six hundred oxen and three thousand sheep and the priests were too few so that they could not flay all the burnt offerings so what's going on here these are free will offerings that they're being brought to them and there's so much that they can't even like dress all this right there's not enough priests to actually take care of all these free will offerings because there's a revival happening meaning that Hezekiah is cleaning house he's breaking down all this idolatry he's breaking down all this stuff and he's he's cleansing the house of God he's repairing it and he's getting the priests in there to sanctify everything and you know what the people are just they're like let's do this because you have a leader that is willing to get rid of the garbage to break down the false doctrine to break down the wickedness and until you until you have someone that's willing to do that you're not gonna be able to see revival and as far as I know I don't think that the Asbury revival is breaking down any type of wickedness in the world I don't remember hearing this fire-breathing sermon against the sodomites and the wickedness and the the the garbage that's going on into the going on in the world I don't see some like just tearing down of the wickedness of this world I don't see them preaching you know well we need we need to have we need to live a godly sanctified life as Christians and we need to live this holy separated life no it's quite the opposite usually it's just this hippie you know let's all get along and doctrine doesn't matter like this Jesus Revolution movie out there that's out there about some fag that started some revolution with some pastor that's a pastor of some four-square church and that type of revival is what I would I would consider a fake revival and it's basically a red herring revival and will you say what do you mean by that a red herring is where it's basically to distract you from what the true thing is right so if you think about like if you're trying to hide drugs or something like that not that anybody in here would do that you would put like a herring there so if a dog were coming in to try to sniff the drugs out the the herring it's a fish by the way they would smell that and not smell the drugs right so it's basically a distraction from the true thing okay and these things like this Jesus Revolution movie the the Asbury you know you know revival or whatever it's a distraction to the true revival and you know the true revival I believe our churches that are getting back to soul winning that are going out week by week and the grassroots movement of hey we want to do the Great Commission we're gonna see people get saved we're gonna preach the truth we're gonna have hard preaching that is the true revival that you see in the Bible like with Hezekiah and notice what it says here it says in verse 36 it says and Hezekiah rejoiced and all the people that that God had prepared the people for the thing was done suddenly I believe God is at any moment just waiting for churches to get on board I don't think where you just have to be praying for a revival and be like Lord please give us revival it's like just do it just do what you're supposed to be doing and it's like God is ready to prepare the hearts he's ready to send the laborers there if you're just willing to do it and Hezekiah he was willing to break down all the false false idolatry that was in the land and he's he was willing to clean house and God was ready there to prepare the hearts of the people so much they couldn't even take in all the offerings right it's like well you can't today have a church that's like a fire-breathing hard preaching church that that wants to go soul winning that's King James Bible only you can't have that today he wouldn't survive wrong God prepares the hearts of those to you know make up the hedge and stand in the gap and the thing that that's interesting is the fact that it was done so suddenly right I mean he starts literally the first month that he's in rain he's raining and this happened so quick now I want you to think about this now I don't want for sake of time I don't want to go through the whole story because you can see that they do the Passover when is the path take place when what does it that passive the first month and the 14th day right so what happens in the story is that I get everything because remember it was it was in the first month of his first you know of his reign right and basically his first month of the year there that they can't do the Passover until the second month which is something that God allows it's like for some reason they can't do it or they're not saying fight or whatever and so think about how sudden that was I mean within a month they're like doing the Passover everything is going I think they're before they even do the pass over they're doing these these freewill offerings and all this stuff so you can think about like that was quick it's not like this took a year to happen okay we're talking like less than a month that this stuff that this is getting clans and that the the priests are getting on board Levi's are getting on board the people are on board and go to 2nd Chronicles chapter 30 and verse 1 here and it wasn't just Judah okay it wasn't just Judah that was getting on fire if you remember the kingdom was split right you had the northern kingdom of Israel that would had like ten tribes or whatever and then you had the southern kingdom which was mostly Judah but other tribes that were that were mixed in there as well and so basically here in verse 1 it says in Hezekiah sent to all Israel and Judah and wrote letters also to Ephraim and Manasseh that they should come to the house of the Lord at Jerusalem to keep the Passover unto the Lord God of Israel so he's writing up now Ephraim and Manasseh is clearly in the southern kingdom okay I mean I mean the northern kingdom they're in Israel those are like the big tribes in that northern kingdom right and a lot of cases in the Bible it'll call the northern kingdom Joseph or even Ephraim it'll it'll say like Ephraim and Judah because Ephraim is like that biggest tribe up there and Judah is the biggest tribe on the southern portion and so he's writing letters to them saying hey come down and do the Passover and notice what happens here and again I'm kind of giving you the bridge version I would read through this whole this whole story if you want to see all the little details that are going on here but notice in verse 10 they sent out all these letters okay and it's gonna say posts here which you should probably understand from Facebook right a post but verse 10 here says so the posts passed from city to city through the countries of Ephraim and Manasseh even at the Zebulun so the post you think of a postman all right you got it so they're going through Zebulun it's all these these kingdoms up there and it's talking about the fact that he wanted to send these letters from Dan to Beersheba and it that's a very common phrase that basically from the north to the south right you have Dan that's up north and yet Beersheba is down south and these letters went throughout all of not just Judah but all of Israel as well okay and it says here though and it says at the end of verse 10 here but they laughed them to scorn and mock them so obviously a lot of people didn't receive it you know and they weren't just like all on board but notice what it says in verse 11 nevertheless diverse of Asher and Manasseh and of Zebulun humbled themselves and came to Jerusalem so notice that there were people that humbled themselves and they actually came it makes you wonder you know Anna the prophetess in Luke chapter 2 was of what tribe Asher and it makes you wonder that this revival that Hezekiah had maybe brought some of Asher back down into Judea you know because Judah is just you know Judea is just another way of saying Judah and you just wonder if that was like her being down there was a cause from Hezekiah's you know basically tearing down of the of the wickedness and the building up of righteousness and so basically here it says they humble themselves in verse 12 also in Judah the hand of God was to give them one heart to do the commandment of the king and other princes by the word of the Lord notice notice that we're talking about the word of the Lord we're talking about the commandments you know obviously the commandment of the king but this is by the word of Lord okay they're doing what God is telling them to do that's what true revival is true revival is where you're getting back to the Bible and saying okay thus said the Lord I'm gonna follow that not just well you know we have a lot of people in church oh well we're singing all night we've been singing for days and we've been preaching for days but what have you been preaching what have been singing what are you doing I mean are you winning anybody is anything getting done right because we can literally just say hey we're just gonna keep singing and preaching and you know if you have to go to work then go to work and come back and we're just gonna keep this this train going but in the end I don't believe that would be productive because we have things we have to get done at home we get those things done we come back here and we have set times to get work done but if we're just gonna hang out and you know paint pictures and like do do all kinds of stuff that's not even related to church in here what's that gonna do now if in verse verse 13 there it says and they're assembled at Jerusalem much people to keep the Feast of Unleavened Bread in the second month a very great congregation and they arose and took away the altars that were in Jerusalem and all the altars for incense took they away and cast them into the brook Caidron so they basically took out all the when it's talking about altars it's talking about all these these altars like you think of altars of Baal and just different things now it doesn't necessarily tell us what these altars were for but what we could surmise is obviously you're dealing with idolatry you're dealing with graven images you're dealing with altars that were to I believe false gods or it could be that they were altars to God but they weren't what he wanted right you think about the fact that it wasn't it wasn't what he how he planned it to be and a lot of times there's things where people are like well the Bible says we should do this but then there's a caveat saying well you have to do it this way though if you're gonna do it think about the way you're supposed to make an altar right how do you make an altar well you're not to hue any stone it's basically just be stacked stones or earth that's it so if you build it out of wood or like you basically build it any other way than wait the way that God tells you to do it then it's not valid now these are probably dealing with altars to like false gods and stuff like that but but anyway verse 26 notice what it says about this though when they do this Passover it says in verse 26 so there was great joy in Jerusalem for since the time of Solomon the son of David king of Israel there was not the like in Jerusalem so basically he brings it back to before the kingdom split it's very interesting and it's also interesting the fact that he didn't just say but all right Judah nuts to you guys up in northern Israel no he's trying to get everybody back and I don't believe this is a move like a political move for Hezekiah to say hey you know what I want to get all the kingdoms back under my rule I think he's just saying hey you want to come serve the Lord come down to serve he's not saying the move he's just saying hey come down and keep Passover which is what should have happened to begin with when Rehoboam and Jeroboam when that split but the reason that Jeroboam made those two calves is because he didn't want them to come down to Jerusalem to keep the feast and do what they should be doing because he was afraid that the kingdom would be taken away from him because they'd be like well why we why do we have two kingdoms you know like why are we doing this and that's why he did that abomination of making those golden calves up in northern Israel but one in Dan and one in Bethel right now go to a second chronicle chapter 31 and verse 1 and I want you to see the outcome of this revival okay this breaking down of the wickedness and the idolatry and what that built up okay verse 1 here it says now when all this was finished all Israel that were present okay so think about this all Israel that was present all those that were there we're dealing with Judah but we're also dealing with these northern tribes right it says all Israel that were present went out to the cities of Judah and break the images in pieces and cut down the groves and threw down the high places and the altars out of all Judah and Benjamin and Ephraim also and Manasseh until they had utterly destroyed them all then all the children of Israel returned every man to his possession into their own cities so notice that they start in Judah it's like all Israel that's present there after they do this they're like all right it's time to clean house so think about it Hezekiah starts with the house of God right and listen if you want a nation to turn back to God you have to start with the house of God it's going to start with churches local churches getting back to the things of the Bible and that is going to influence everybody else to take care of the rest it's not a matter of like well who do we get in government to fix this no we need to we need to work from from the church of God and the state all the saved need to get together get back get ahold of God and keeping his commandments and doing what you should be doing winning people to Christ and then that influences all those to go out and clean house as well so notice that what Hezekiah does influenced obviously his local area if you think of Judah because all those people that came down they all went out with them and they're like let's let's clean house they cleaned up Judah right they got rid of all the the altars and all the the groves threw down the high places and the altars out of all Judah and Benjamin in Ephraim also in Manasseh so notice that they went home and they're like it's time to clean house up here too that's what revival looks like is when you're actually getting rid of the things that are against the Word of God and we need to break down before we can build up and there are cases obviously where you can build up because there's nothing to break down I mean you think about like children getting saved there's not much to really break down it is here right you're just kind of explaining the facts to them you go out soul-winding there's a lot of things that you may have to like tear down and arguments and thought processes and all that stuff when it comes to that so in a lot in some cases let's say you're let's say you're you're wanting to build a house well you just have a plot of land you're like all right it's just time to build that break down anything you may have to take out some trees or something like that I don't know depending on where you're building but let's say you're building somewhere where there's already a bunch of dilapidated like houses that are falling apart well before you build that house you got to tear down the ruins right you got to tear down that building and listen cases go to go to go to Psalm 137 there's cases where where I've had to do renovations and actually working on one right now where it's where it's basically like everybody involved in product you're like I wish they would have just condemned this building and took it down it's one of those money pits where it's just like you just every time you open up something you're just it's just like more things gotta fix and it's one of those things where you're just like they should have just torn it down and just started fresh okay and the Bible says here in Psalm 137 it uses this term like to raise something and I've heard this outside the Bible as well when you're reading this if you don't know the spelling of it you may think it's talking about raising something up but it's actually the opposite okay notice what it says here in verse 7 says remember O Lord the children of Edom in the day of Jerusalem who said raise it raise it even to the foundation thereof so if you're I remember reading I remember hearing it you know like an audio Bible I'm like what is that talking about and then I looked it up and I'm like oh okay raise means to basically if you think about you know cutting something down like you know you could probably think of a razor but you even think of the term like erase right to take it out even to the foundation and so basically a lot of times what you need to do is you just need to take it down and sometimes you need to take the foundation out to and put a new foundation in because sometimes the foundation is even bad okay but think about this there's certain things that are that don't have a remedy okay for example I used the example of like a Sardis type of church where let's say that church was like on fire at one point they used to go soul winning they used to do what they should be doing and you get in there and you kind of like rebuild it repair it get rid of the false doctrine and get people on fire for the Lord for the things of God but then you like see a Methodist Church there's no there's no point in repair there's nothing to repair you just need to raise that to the ground and start fresh right I mean if I went into a church and everybody's unsaved I mean at that point like what's the point of like trying to clean it up but you guys need to get saved and if you don't want to I mean there's no church here so that makes sense like there's a there's a there's cases where there's no remedy to repair and it just needs to be completely demolished and built up again okay so there's times where it's kind of like you need to tear down so you can repair and then there's times we just need to tear down and start over okay and just completely start over I think about you know the Bible verse in Proverbs 29 where it's in verse 1 it says he that being often reproved heart in his neck shall suddenly be destroyed in that without remedy there are certain things that are just without remedy there's no healing it there's no fixing it there's no repairing it the Bible goes on to say when the righteous are in authority the people rejoice but when the wicked beareth rule the people mourn there are cases especially in the Bible where God just had to completely destroy it in order to raise it up again think of Jerusalem think of Judah right Judah was completely destroyed and the walls were destroyed the city was destroyed the temple was completely demolished and they were in captivity for 70 years and what happened after that Haggai you know they're building temple again but what they had what did God have to do he had to completely demolish it completely there's other cases though where he didn't demolish it but there's repairing hezekiah right hezekiah is an example of that where it's getting really bad hezekiah comes in and cleans house and repairs it okay and then you have the case where it's just completely going away it's completely getting demolished it's gonna have to be rebuilt and so there's a time to break down a time to build up and when you're dealing with salvation for example that's literally what happens go to Romans chapter 6 Romans chapter 6 when you think about when you get saved okay the operation of salvation now salvation is by faith right so by grace through faith but when you believe there's something that's happening spiritually that's not like something you're doing but what God is doing meaning that if you think about what the what does the Bible say in in Titus for example it says not by works of righteousness which we have done but according to his mercy he saved us by the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Ghost okay so the Holy Ghost Anna sit up Anna sit up and pay attention so the Holy Ghost is doing something right so you think about the idea of the regeneration of the Holy Spirit when you get saved okay and look at Romans chapter 6 and verse 3 here that when we get saved something happens because in Ephesians chapter 2 for example it says ye who are dead and trespasses you you have I can't speak you have hath he quickened who were dead and trespasses and sin so he's basically saying you were dead trespasses and sins but he's quickened you okay but how does he quicken us how does he what's the operation in which he does this okay obviously it's by faith that we receive it and that it takes place but in verse 3 here says no ye not that so many of us as we're baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death okay we're not talking about water baptism here we're talking about something that happens spiritually it says in verse 4 therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father even so we also should walk in newness of life for if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection knowing this that our old man is crucified with him now obviously this is spiritual right I mean you didn't actually get physically crucified when you got saved spiritually speaking your old man is crucified with him that the body of sin might be destroyed that henceforth we should not serve sin so I want you to think about that in order to get saved we had to die essentially with Christ meaning that the law only has power you know obviously when you're alive right the law has power and you think about like a husband-wife relationship right it talks about in Romans chapter 7 where it basically the husband the the wife is bound to her husband is so long as her husband liveth right but if her husband be dead she is no longer bound by the law right and the idea is that when we're dead with Christ the law has no more dimension it doesn't have power over us anymore okay so in order to build us up we had to be broken down okay and obviously you can think about like in order for Jesus to be raised from dead he had the first to send into the lower parts of the earth and the Bible talks about how he had to take our sin upon him he had to be broken down before he could be built up and this concept is in salvation in the idea that we had to be crucified with him we had to be buried with him in death in order to have salvation in order to be brought up or to be built up again okay and so just that operation is there now when it comes to your Christian walk for example your Christian walk in his last point I'm gonna make and I'll be done is the fact that in your Christian walk in order to be built up I believe you need to break some things down okay now I'm talking you're already saved hey you've already believed on Christ you have eternal life you never lose your salvation no matter what right but look at Colossians chapter 2 Colossians chapter 2 and notice what it says in verse 6 in verse 6 it says Colossians chapter 2 verse 6 says as you have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord so walk ye in him so notice that the walking in him is different is separate thing that's being half that happens from receiving Christ Jesus other places it'll say you are light you are the light of the world or basically you're a light in the Lord walk ye as children of light it says you if you live in the spirit let us also walk in the spirit so the walking is something that you do after you get saved okay walking in the spirit walking in him so you already say because you've received Christ Jesus but it says so you walk ye in him and it says in verse 7 clarifying that or adding to that rooted and what built up in him established in the faith as ye have been taught abounding therein with Thanksgiving beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit after the tradition of men after the rudiments of the world and not after Christ who here would say you don't have to raise your hand who here would say in order to basically get good doctrine you had to tear down a lot of false doctrine I mean I'm definitely in that camp I mean there was I mean when I got saved there was there was a lot of things that I thought were true or that were even taught by people that were saved that later on I had to tear that down or even human philosophy right I mean think about there's a way which seemeth right unto a man but the end there are other ways of death there's a lot of times where you just have to break down this human philosophy that's out there and insert the truth of what God says and so in order to be built up you have to tear down that which is false to build up that which is right and go to 2nd Timothy chapter 2 2nd Timothy chapter 2 so you can think about what that with doctrine okay being built up and rooted and grounded and obviously the Bible teaches over and over again about that as far as not being carried about with every wind of doctrine but you need to be established and rooted and built up and all that okay but also when you think about trying to live a separated life you know the idea is that when you get saved you know a lot of times when you get saved there's a lot of stuff you don't know is even wrong right and you're just learning you're just like okay that's wrong or that the Bible is against that and you just didn't know join the club that's all of us right I mean if you if you get saved you never read the Bible then how are you supposed to know all these things are wrong now obviously you know murder is wrong right you know that you shouldn't commit adultery on your wife I mean there's some things that you don't really have to be taught that because the Bible talks about how the law of God is written in our hearts so when you think about that type of stuff you know that you shouldn't have been stealing you don't come to your mom man I guess I shouldn't have been stealing all those years shouldn't been telling all those bold-faced lies to everybody you know there's obvious things that you know but then there's a lot of things that you don't realize that are sins or that you shouldn't be doing there's a lot of secret faults that maybe we have that you're kind of learning and purging and breaking down right it also says here in 2nd Timothy chapter 2 and verse 19 nevertheless the foundation of God's stand is sure having the seal the Lord knoweth them that are his and notice this and let everyone that name at the name of Christ apart from iniquity so he's basically talking to the save those that he knows right the Lord know with them that are his the Bible says and so he's talking to the saved is saying if you name the name of Christ you say then you should be departing from iniquity okay but it says in verse 20 but in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and silver and of silver but also of wood and of earth and some to honor and some to dishonor if a man therefore purge himself from these what iniquity it says he shall be a vessel unto honor sanctified and meet for the Masters use and prepared unto every good work flee also youthful lusts but follow righteousness faith charity peace with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart think about this how are you to sanctify yourself and I'm talking physically because obviously spiritually speaking you're sanctified you're a saint right but physically speaking that's a daily process where you're trying to come out from among them be separate and sanctifying yourself physically in this world how are you to sanctify yourself if you don't get rid of the iniquity right if you don't get rid of the sin okay and I'm not saying anybody's ever gonna hold wholly do this and you know if we say that we have no sin we deceive ourselves in the truth is not in us but do you understand that in order to be built up in order to basically try to be this this this vessel unto honor you have to pull some stuff out right you got to purge something and I didn't turn there but in John 15 it talks about this it talks about you know well I'll just read in John 15 one it says I am the true vine and my father is the husband and every branch and me that beareth not fruit he taketh away and every branch that beareth fruit he purges it that it may bring forth more fruit so when you purge something you're taking it away right think about like trimming a branch because you want to get more fruit on it and so you got to break down some stuff before you can build it up and so this is just a principle that I don't think it's very it shouldn't be controversial right some of these are controversial right how dare you say we should break down something you know it's like come on man you're saying there's no building that should be broken down you know that's too negative so I don't think it's that controversial I think it's just a fact I mean it's just it's just something that just makes sense that hey if I need to build up something I'm gonna have to break down something in order to really make this stand strong but if you try to listen if you find some house that is almost falling over and you tried to build on that it's gonna fall over right I mean it's the same kind of principle of building your house upon sand you know the idea is that you should build your house upon a rock you should have a good foundation but how much more you have this this house that's almost falling in on itself and you're like alright time to build on this like no there's gonna be maybe in some cases there it could be repaired right there's just some problems here and there and you can fix those problems and then build upon it but in a lot of cases you got it you just got to pull that thing down pull it down raise it to the foundation and start over and build it up and when it comes to this passage you know as far as there's a time to break down there's time to build up I think it's pretty simple there's obviously a lot of avenues you can look at this you can look at spiritually look at it physically but I thought hezekiah would be a good example of someone that broke down built up and ultimately ended up being one of the one of the greatest kings and that we have in Judah that even says that there was no one before him or after him and just think about that leadership and and just how if you take care of things at home how that affects things outside of that right because you could look at and say well our church is small what what are we gonna affect how are we gonna affect the world how are we gonna get you know people to get on board and get on fire for the Lord listen we just worry about what we're doing here go out and preach the gospel to every creature and keep preaching the Word of God and you know what God will prepare the hearts of men to hear it but in order for him why would he prepare the hearts of men to hear his word if no one's preaching it if he doesn't have anybody saying anything it's kind of like what's the point but if he if there's men that are willing to preach in there's there's people that are willing to go out and preach the gospel guess what he's preparing the hearts of those people waiting for you to come and talk to them and so we need to keep thinking about that and the idea is we need to keep constantly breaking down false doctrine breaking down and pulling out wickedness so that we can build up you know a strong house so let's end with a word prayer the only father we think today thank you for your word and thank you for this church thank you for all the souls that were saved this week and Lord just thank you for all the efforts there and thank you for the baptisms that you'd be with us after the service with the baptism as well and Lord we just pray that you'd be with us as we go back to work throughout the week and Lord we love you and pray all this in Jesus Christ's name amen so brother Dave will come and sing one more song and then we'll be dismissed all right take your song books turn to song number 30 song number 30 if you would stand we'll sing nothing but the blood song number 30 one can wash away my sin nothing but the blood of Jesus one can make me whole again nothing but the blood of Jesus Oh precious is the flow that makes me white as snow no fount I know nothing but the blood of Jesus for my part and this I see nothing but the blood of Jesus for my
