(Disclaimer: This transcript is auto-generated and may contain mistakes.) . . Good evening, everyone. Welcome to Mountain Baptist Church. Take your song books and turn to song number 49. Song number 49 in your song books, we'll sing Meet Me There. And if you would stand, we'll sing song number 49. On that happy golden shore, where the faithful part no more, when the storms of life are o'er, Meet Me There. Where the night dissolves away into pure and perfect day, I am going home to stay, Meet Me There. Meet Me There. Meet Me There. Where the tree of life is blooming, Meet Me There. When the storms of life are o'er, on that happy golden shore, where the faithful part no more, Meet Me There. Here fondest hopes are vain, dearest links are entwined, but in heaven o'erth for pain, Meet Me There. By the river sparkling bright and the city of delight, where our faith is lost aside, Meet Me There. Meet Me There. Meet Me There. Where the tree of life is blooming, Meet Me There. When the storms of life are o'er, on that happy golden shore, where the faithful part no more, Meet Me There. Where the harps of angels ring and the blessed forever sing, in the palace of our King, Meet Me There. Where in sweet communion blend heart with heart and friend with friend, in a world that ne'er shall end, Meet Me There. Meet Me There. Meet Me There. Where the tree of life is blooming, Meet Me There. When the storms of life are o'er, on that happy golden shore, where the faithful part no more, Meet Me There. All right, let's pray. Heavenly Father, we just want to thank you, God, for another day that we can meet in your house and hear your word preached. I pray, Lord, that you would just be with our pastor. Fill him with your power and spirit, for it's in Jesus' name we ask all of it. Amen. All right, you may be seated and turn one song back to song number 48. Song number 48, in your song books, we'll sing I'll Be So Glad, song number 48. I'll be so glad when day is done. I'll be so glad when victory's won. There'll be no sorrow in God's tomorrow. I'll be so glad when Jesus comes. Is that like the John 1135? That has to be the shortest song that we got in that book. Welcome to Mount Baptist Church on this Wednesday evening. And actually, Lord willing, this will be our last service in this building. So the plan is to get everything moved in by this Sunday. So actually, Friday's kind of like the big move day. Thursday or tomorrow we're going to try to get the wiring and everything together for the speakers and the audio visual stuff ready to go. But while we start moving these chairs, we're having service there. So whether the audio visual stuff's ready to go or not, it is what it is. But barring something else happening, but the building's ready to go. So we're going to get everything moved over there. The chairs, as far as the nice chairs, they're supposed to be in on Monday. So it won't be here in time for the first service there. But maybe by Wednesday we'll have all that set up. But just being a prayer that everything moves smoothly there. I was thinking about this. And ladies, you can let me know. But I was thinking about moving the prayer meeting to the next Saturday. And just because there's so much stuff going on this week with getting the building moved. And I just don't know. With cleaning, the building should be clean. But we're going to move out of this. And we've just got a lot of work to do this weekend. So instead of trying to step on each other with that, it may be better just to postpone that a week. And then everything's kind of set up. And then you're good to go for that. So let's just go ahead and do that. For some reason we don't get everything in on Friday. Then on Saturday morning we're not in there messing with things. And then you ladies are trying to pray or whatever. So let's do that. As far as service times, everything is the same. So we should have both services, soul winning, all that stuff going on. But I'll say this. On Friday, any help as far as moving stuff will be a blessing for sure. With everybody working everything, we're probably going to try to do it in the afternoon at some point. So everybody can work and get off work and kind of help with that. So let me know if anybody's wanting to help and what their schedule would be like with that and all that. But exciting stuff there. Bible memory, we have Galatians chapter 5, but we are going to be coming to October by this Sunday. So we'll be getting into the last chapter of Galatians. And then John 1.29 is our memory verse for the week. Like I said, the upcoming events with the Women's Prayer Meeting, let's move that to the next week and just to kind of give us a little more space there. Soul winning times, like I said, Sunday, we're going to still plan on going out soul winning at 1 p.m. We may, when everything gets settled in, maybe the next week we'll do some kind of like cool little grand opening type of little, maybe we'll have a cake, we'll get to the pavilion or something, I don't know. We'll try to think about maybe if we do that before it starts like snowing or something like that to where we can like get out there in the pavilion and kind of hang out and all that. But we'll think about that. As far as everything else on the list here, birthdays, anniversaries, just be in prayer for all those on the pregnancy list. And so be in prayer for these ladies, be in prayer for the babies and all that. That's about all I got for announcements that I can think of. So again, this weekend is going to be the big push to get moved into the new building. So any help that you can give will be much appreciated. We'll get it, you know, but definitely the more hands, the more stuff, it's going to make it a lot easier for sure. But that's all I got for announcements. Brother Dave is going to come and sing one more song. And Brother Anthony is going to be reading 1 Corinthians 5 for us. All right, if you would take your song books and turn to song number 66. Song number 66 we'll sing at Calvary song number 66. Years I spent in vanity and pride, caring not my Lord was crucified, knowing not it was for me. He died on Calvary. Mercy there was great and grace was free. Pardon there was multiplied to me. There my burdens so fond liberty at Calvary. By God's word at last my sin I learned. Then I trembled at the law I'd spurned. To my guilty soul imploring turn to Calvary. Mercy there was great and grace was free. Pardon there was multiplied to me. There my burdens so fond liberty at Calvary. Oh the love that drew salvation's plan. Oh the grace that brought it down to man. Oh the mighty golf that God did spend at Calvary. Mercy there was great and grace was free. Pardon there was multiplied to me. There my burdens so fond liberty at Calvary. Now I've given to Jesus everything. Now I gladly own him as my king. Now my rapture soul can only sing of Calvary. Mercy there was great and grace was free. Pardon there was multiplied to me. There my burdens so fond liberty at Calvary. All right, take your Bibles and turn to First Corinthians chapter number five. First Corinthians five we'll have brother Anthony read that for us. First Corinthians chapter five. Bible reads it is reported commonly that there is fornication among you and such fornication as is not so much as named among the Gentiles that one should have his father's wife. And you are puffed up and have not rather mourned that he that hath done this deed might be taken away from among you. For I verily as absent in body but present in spirit have judged already as though I were present concerning him that hath so done this deed. In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ when ye are gathered together and my spirit with the power of our Lord Jesus Christ to deliver such and one unto Satan for the destruction of the flesh that the spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus. Your glory is not good. Know ye not that a little leaven leaveneth the whole lump? Purge out therefore the old leaven that ye may be a new lump as ye are unleavened for even Christ our Passover is sacrificed for us. Therefore let us keep the feast not with old leaven neither with the leaven of malice and wickedness but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth. I wrote unto you an epistle not to company with fornicators yet not altogether with the fornicators of this world or with the covetous or extortioners or with idolaters for then must ye needs go out of the world. But now I have written unto you not to keep company if any man that is called a brother be a fornicator or covetous or or an idolater or a railer or a drunkard or an extortioner with such in one know not to eat. For what have I to do to judge them also that are without? Do ye not judge them that are within? But them that are without God judgeth. Therefore put away from you yourselves that wicked person. Let's pray. Dear Lord thank you for your word and thank you for this night that we can continue this study. Pray God should be with Pastor Robinson fill him with your Holy Spirit and help us all to learn. In Jesus name I pray. Amen. Amen. So you're there in 1st Corinthians chapter 5 and the first thing I think of when I think of 1st Corinthians 5 is church discipline. Church discipline. So this chapter definitely hits on that. It's something that is gone by the wayside when it comes to churches and you know that's why you get churches that just run roughshod with all kinds of sin and it's something that needs to be preached. It's something that needs to be done. So you know you could preach on it but you know if you preach on it but don't do it then it's not really doing much for you. So but that being said we see that Paul has been rebuking the Corinthians as far as basically following man to a fault and basically being a respecter of persons and the fact of you know I'm of Paul, I'm of Apollos and he's been kind of hitting on that and that they shouldn't be judging anything before the time when it comes to rewards or how you know how high up spiritually someone is than someone else. Chapter 5 here though we're going to be dealing with a major sin that's going on in the church and Paul is going to be hitting it hard. Notice in verse 1 here it says it is commonly reported that there is fornication among you and such fornication as it is not so much as named among the Gentiles that one should have his father's wife and ye are puffed up and have not rather mourned that he that had done this deed might take away or might be taken away from among you. So the first thing he says here is that there's fornication and it's commonly reported, commonly reported that there's fornication so everybody knows about it. Okay so this is not a secret if anything it's one of those you know well-known secrets if you will. A well-known secret is something that basically everybody's saying is a secret but everybody knows about it kind of thing and so this is commonly reported it's not in a corner and it's being done openly and when stuff like that is being done openly and no one is rebuking that then everybody that's looking at that will think that that's just the way things should be right or you know if kids were looking at you know adults that were in that act then why would they heed the preacher when he says flee fornication or any type of warning about fornication when everybody's just fine and dandy with someone in the church living that way. Okay and so this is something that needs to be addressed and fornication is basically any type of basically sin where you go to bed with somebody that's not your spouse okay and whether you're married or not married. Now some people believe fornication is only when you're not married meaning like it's only between people that are you know unmarried like both of them are unmarried. Adultery it doesn't you know it only takes one party to be married for it to be adultery. Does that make sense? Like both of them could be married or just one of them can be married either way both of them have committed adultery okay but I want to show you that I believe fornication is kind of like a bigger subset of that realm where adultery is more defined. Now this I do believe is adultery because you're talking about him sleeping with his father's wife. Now obviously this is probably a stepmom right it's kind of like Absalom you know how Absalom lay with David's wives and concubines on the roof. Dad is something that was done openly okay so to kind of give you a picture of Absalom. Absalom is not exactly a good character in the Bible just so you know but just to give you some verses on this and give you some explanation on this. Go to Galatians chapter 5 verse 19 because you know in the New Testament it doesn't say a lot about well it talks about adultery but here's the thing when it says flee fornication guess what husbands that's talking to you as well that's not just talking to the unmarried okay and I want to show you why I believe that basically fornication is just a bigger broader term whereas adultery is more you know like that is definitely something for example you're in Galatians 5 19 adultery is always fornication but fornication isn't always adultery does that make sense you know sin is evil but evil isn't always sin sometimes there's words that kind of take a broader scope of things in Galatians chapter 5 verse 19 notice what it says here it says now the works of the flesh are manifest which are these adultery fornication uncleanness lasciviousness now I just want you to see those words there but adultery fornication uncleanness uncleanness is even broader okay if you don't shower you're unclean okay if you if you're if you're a leper you're unclean but just because you're a leper doesn't mean that you committed fornication right does that make sense but fornication is unclean adultery is unclean not bathing is unclean you know like all these things are unclean whereas adultery is fornication you know going to bed with somebody and neither one of you are married that's fornication like and that act being committed is fornication okay and but adultery is people that are married okay whether one group whether one person of the party or whether both people the party doesn't matter you know that is adultery okay so go to Revelation chapter 2 and verse 21 Revelation chapter 2 and verse 21 Revelation chapter 2 and verse 21 and this is where I believe you can kind of see the link that fornication encompasses adultery okay now this doesn't you know and I think some people sometimes take a stance that fornication is only unmarried people because of the doctrine that we believe which I hold to that there is no cause for you know basically divorce safe fornication you know that talks about you're not to you know get a divorce it says safe for the cause of fornication and a lot of people will say well you you know we need to make sure that we use fornication to mean like just something that's outside of like being married because we know that that's talking about like at the very beginning like an annulment type thing where you didn't consummate the marriage and you found out someone committed an act right so kind of like the one example that we see is Mary and Joseph where she was found with child now obviously she was found with a child of the Holy Ghost right and that obviously was rectified but he was just man to put her away privily meaning that that would have been a you know a case where that would apply right but here's the thing what if she committed that act with someone that was married because then you could say well it says fornication not adultery so essentially committed adultery you know then it wouldn't apply or would apply does that make sense so fornication is kind of the broader term that would encompass adultery too when you look at the law back in Deuteronomy it says uncleanness see Jesus kind of honed it in like we're not just talking about not bathing okay we're not just talking about being unclean in the home right we're talking about you know things dealing with reproduction right we're dealing with what married people do okay coming together okay that's what we're dealing with there and so Jesus honed that in when he was talking about he's like I'm we're not just talking about uncleanness here we're not just talking about you didn't wash your hands before you ate or whatever the case may be right you didn't use running water you know that's not what he's talking about it's obviously talking about coming together with somebody but that being said look what it says in Revelation chapter 2 in verse 21 Revelation chapter 2 in verse 21 it says and I gave her space to repent of her fornication and she repented not so we're talking about Jezebel you know the one the woman that caused herself a prophetess and she's causing people to commit fornication but Jesus is saying here that he gave her space to repent of her fornication and she didn't but she didn't repent and it says verse 22 behold I will cast her in the bed into a bed and them that commit what adultery with her into great tribulation except they repent of their deeds so it's not like a contradiction here it's not like it's just a fact that fornication obviously encompasses adultery the next verse shows you that hey she's married which makes sense because she has children that Jesus says she's gonna that that Jesus said he's gonna kill he's gonna actually kill her children to be an example unto the churches that they don't go out and do this sin okay and so that's the judgment that's gonna be upon her that being said the reason I bring all that up is that this is fornication but this is not just that you know even it says here that hey this is not so much as to be named among the Gentiles not only is it fornication but it's adultery not only the adultery but it's your father's wife right so I mean it's just like on top of wickedness how far do you go with that right but that being said when you're dealing with sins to where there would be church discipline for example if someone were committing adultery in our church on a continual basis do you think that I don't have grounds to throw them out of the church well it's not fornication do you see what I'm saying here and this is why I'm making it very clear that fornication is dealing with any type of those sins okay whether in marriage or out of marriage that's what we're dealing with here so when it talks about the fact that you're supposed to take away from among you that person this will apply whether it's fornication and whether that fornication actually delves into adultery because adultery is actually serious more serious than than the typical fornication because adultery actually has you know in the case of like where you find you have two or three witnesses the death penalty associated to it okay and in this case they're just lackadaisy about it they're not doing anything about it just commonly reported they're puffed up about it meaning like you're just like you know it's nothing like not even mourning the fact that this is going on right because you could have a church that's just mourning the fact that it's going on does that make sense like it's like God is going on what are we gonna do about it and you're just kind of like in a sad state because it's going on but you don't run it you don't want to throw them out you know you're like what do we do their state of mind is not even that their state of mind is like whatever you know not even thinking that it's a big deal and that's where Paul's hitting bringing down the hammer on this okay so first Corinthians chapter 5 verse 3 notice what he states here here's his judgment and listen I've never had to kick anybody out of the church for sin and why don't we be getting to you know when I when I kicked out Jesse Williams that was not first Corinthians 5 and that was not Matthew 18 that's what you call I'm kicking him out because he's not saved and I believe he's a predator and you know what I can kick out any false prophet I want to at any time that's that's second second John okay they bring not this doctrine you know have no basically if I'm not supposed to bid him God speeder and let him enter my house why would I let him in enter into the house of God right but also you know what when it comes to someone that's a predator someone that's a reprobate you know what the kings of old Asa and Jehoshaphat not only they get rid of the sodomites but they tore down the houses that were near the house of God so you know what that has nothing to do with what I'm talking about when I'm talking about church discipline I'm talking about believers okay so let's put that on the shelf here we're talking about saved people so we're not talking about you know when you deal with false prophets or you deal with predators or whatever the case may be with that we're talking about believers that get into some out you know just basically big sins that this isn't just like all you know someone like stole a pencil or you know whatever the case may be there's like some big sins that are listed so verse 3 here says for I barely as absent in body but present in spirit have judged already as though I were present concerning him that had so done this deed now you know why because this isn't a hard thing to judge okay right do I really need to be there to understand that if this guy is openly committing adultery or fornication with his father's wife and that is commonly reported that I really need to think about whether this guy this guy should be thrown out or not like this is it's kind of like you know when Shadrach it's a different case but when Shadrach Meshach and Abednego said we're not careful to answer the concerning this matter it's kind of like Paul's like I don't need to be there you know to know you know I'm absent in body but present in spirit to make this judgment because this is an easy judgment to make okay this is like this should be very simple to understand what needs to be done in this case in a verse 4 here it says in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ when you're gathered together and by spirit with the power of our Lord Jesus Christ to deliver such and one unto Satan for to the destruction of the flesh that the Spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus now this terminology of like delivering someone unto Satan you know some people say well this guy must not be saved okay well I believe this guy is saved I believe that's why he's even being excommunicated to begin with because later on it's basically saying that if it's not someone that's not a brother you know that's not what he's talking about he's talking about someone that calls himself a brother but it says to deliver such and one unto Satan for the destruction of the flesh go to 1st Timothy chapter 1 because Paul says this in a different manner about two other people meaning this is that there's consequences if you get kicked out of church for sin and the consequence isn't just the losing a fellowship and not being able to be around the people that used to be around you know what I believe the hedge of protection of God's protection is being taken away from you because of that sin because you're not repentant and here's the thing what we see in Revelation chapter 2 when you're dealing with Jezebel it says that Jesus gave her space to repent okay so she had time to get it right now when it comes to this when it comes to sins in the church I don't believe there's this cookie cutter way of dealing with it meaning like all right I'm gonna give them exactly this many days with everybody okay because it could depend on the person are you dealing with a baby in Christ are you dealing with someone that's seasoned and knows better right because to whom much is given much is required so when it comes to like if someone just came in and they were you know just newly saved and you know they were living with their girlfriend or whatever I you know I'm gonna address it if I know that that's going on okay but I'm gonna give them more space than if someone's been coming to our church for years and knows better and just starts living with their you know significant other or whatever right so do you see the difference there and it's not just this cookie cutter case and it's gonna depend on the pastor too because you know what we're all gonna have different opinions on how long we should let that go or you know maybe maybe it just depends on the attitude of the person too does that person have a bad attitude about it because if the person has a bad attitude about it and let's say I address it with with somebody and they're just like you know what are you gonna do about it be like get out of the church now you know what I mean like that that's if they're gonna have a bad attitude about it and they're just gonna like treat me with disrespect if I try to bring it up to them then it may be an instantaneous type of you know expulsion but if someone is like you know what I struggle with this you know I'm gonna try to deal with this and you know I'm gonna get this right you know what I'm gonna try to you know give them space to repent but I'm gonna make it known that it's not acceptable okay so I'm not gonna just be like oh yeah this is this is fine what this person is doing okay but again it's gonna be a case-to-case basis so you can't just you know why you know why it's probably case-to-case base if it was if it was a cookie cutter like everything fits you know it's a one-size-fits-all then it probably tell us how long the weight right I mean the Bible would say you know like wait a week or you know whatever wait ten days it's like the trial period right and so I don't think that there is an outline for that I think it's gonna take discernment it's gonna take depending on the situation how much time you give somebody but look at first Timothy chapter 1 verse 18 notice what it says it says this charge I commit unto thee son Timothy according to that the prophecies which went before on thee that thou by them Midas wore good warfare holding faith and a good conscience which some having put away concerning faith have made shipwreck of whom is hymenaeus and Alexander so he's calling two people out by name notice it says whom I have delivered unto Satan that they may learn not the blaspheme now I personally think that these guys are professed brothers but he's delivering them unto Satan so they'll learn their lesson not the blaspheme okay because I do believe believers can blaspheme they can speak evil of things in the church and all that and in a lot of cases blaspheming and railing are really closely knit okay which is one of the things that's mentioned in the list okay so that being said is that delivering someone on the Satan you can kind of think about how job job isn't a case of chastisement okay but think about the fact that if God takes away his hedge of protection from somebody how Satan comes in to attack so if you're in a good church and you're doing what you should be doing and then you get into some grievous sin it to the point where you get kicked out of that church you know God's gonna view that is that person is you know like the hedge of protection is being taken off of them so the destruction of the flesh is what you know is gonna happen and what's the purpose of that the whole purpose is for restoration the whole purpose to get it right okay the idea of chastening is the fact of you know you chasing them some you chasing your children because you love them and you want them to get right it's not you're not just chasing them just just for the pleasure of chasing them okay but this next phrase I think people you know obviously anytime it says saved you know people are like what in the world you know is this person saved is he not saved you know as far as like eternally it says the destruction of the flesh that the Spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus now there may be different thoughts on like what this is talking about but I'm gonna give you my thoughts on what this is talking about and I'm gonna show you another verse which is kind of another harder verse to answer and I'm gonna give you why what I believe this is talking about I don't believe this is talking about our spirit as far as like our spirit that has no guile or our soul that's been purified like the the part of our being right our being I don't think that's what this is talking about does that make sense but I'm gonna show you what I do believe it's talking about go to 2nd Corinthians chapter 7 2nd Corinthians chapter 7 and verse 1 and I want to show you another verse that kind of says something similar to this okay so as far as you know what we believe as far as our being when we get saved our spirit our soul is purified our spirit it says whose spirit is no guile talks about who you have purified your souls to sanctification of the Spirit and you know belief of the truth and all that okay so I don't believe it's talking about your being but in 2nd Corinthians chapter 7 verse 1 it says is this having therefore these promises dearly beloved let us notice that the us is in there so Paul's including himself in here let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit perfecting holiness in the fear of God so what is this talking about well go to Ephesians chapter 4 Ephesians chapter 4 because spirit isn't always talking about our being just the message soul sometimes it's just talking about you know just the person themselves right it's kind of holistically that person like it as far as the soul that sin if it shall die just talking about that person is gonna die physically right it's not always talking about that spiritual element of your being okay but spirit sometimes can be talking about different there's different types of spirits dealing with and I'm going to show you here this one is dealing with the spirit of your mind okay so in Ephesians chapter 4 verse 22 it says verse 22 says that you put off concerning the former conversation the old man which is corrupt according to the deceitful lust so we're talking about the old man now we usually we think of the old man we just think of the body right we think of the just the physical and you know like you know basically stuff you can feel right it says and be renewed in the spirit of your mind so that we're talking about the spirit of our mind it says it then that you put on the new man which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness go to Romans chapter 8 Romans chapter 8 I believe when you get saved you kind of you have this this this carnal mind the spirit of the carnal mind that's still there that needs to be cleansed so that term spirit of your mind is used a lot so when we're talking about the spirit of the mind do you understand that's not the spirit of you right that's a different type of mention there and those are says in Roman chapter 8 and verse 6 it says for to be carnally minded is death but to be spiritually minded is life and peace because the carnal mind is enmity against God for it is not subject to the law of God neither indeed can be so when it's talking about that the spirit may be saved I believe it's talking about the mind you know basically the you know there's this this entity or I don't say entity but it's this idea of your thoughts your your your desires like all these different things that you have to reign in dealing with the fleshly mind right you have this fleshly mind that's still there and it's something that you have to reign in and you don't want to just destroy the person completely right to the point where they're just completely out of commission right because if you still have your mind just there's still hope okay and I believe that the destruction of the flesh will purify your mind does that make sense so when you you can think about this in in aspects of just like if you get out of sin it'll help your mind to think about better things right if you physically read right your mind will be thinking about it so you're kind of like trying to cleanse the mind through physical means right as far as what you're doing physically where do you go what do you look at all these different things you know the light of the body is the eye right your physical members are gonna cause your mind it's gonna basically be the switch to either renew your mind or let your mind just keep going into the deceitful lusts okay so that's why you know destroy the flesh so that the Spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus meaning that so that the mind you know will basically be renewed and that in that renewing of the mind you can start doing the will of God and I'll show you another verse here Roman chapter 12 Rome chapter 12 I know this is a little deep to kind of explain this but that's what I believe is talking about we obviously know that it's not talking about the fact that you need to like you know flog yourself to get saved you know as far as like destroying the flesh you write the destruction of the flesh so that you can make sure that you're saved one day right no this is talking about the fact of how even fasting how that affects your mind right you know just denying the flesh how that affects your mind whether it's with sin or whether it's just with pastries right and you know what there is a lot of truth to fasting that's a physical thing but how that affects your mind how you think better how you don't think about sin like you would if you're eating a bunch of junk food there's a lot to be said about denying the flesh and destroying the flesh if you will to the point of how that affects your mind okay so in Romans chapter 12 verse 1 it says I beseech you therefore brethren by the mercies of God that you present your your bodies a living sacrifice so notice we're talking about the bodies you presented a living sacrifice wholly acceptable unto God which is a reasonable service and be not conformed to this world notice this but be transformed how by the renewing of your mind that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God notice that the renewing is something that's going on right because when you get saved you just automatically know everything do you automatically just you're just completely spiritual minded no that's something that you're working on right you're working on getting away from the carnal mind and getting to a spiritual mind right and the carnal mind is death spiritually minded that's what's profitable unto God and you know and obviously when you're walking in the spirit you're spiritually minded right but that carnal mind is gonna be with you until you die okay but the idea is to renew that mind so that it's walking or you die daily right that's a process that happens and that's what I believe it's talking about here in 1st Corinthians chapter 5 when it's talking about the destruction of the flesh that the spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus because and I don't have this in my notes but if you look at like it when that you may be confident and not be ashamed before I'm at his coming right or that as you may be unblameable right and that he may preserve you body soul and spirit you know at this coming the idea there is that you want to be physically like ready when he comes like even bodily you know I mean you're not ashamed bodily because obviously spiritually speaking we're ready soul and spirit we're ready we're ready to go we're saved we're you know our sins have been forgiven but bodily or fleshly speaking or even carnally speaking when you're thinking about the physical realm right that is what you have to reign in but there's not just the physical body parts there's actually the spirit of the carnal mind that's there you know you have those you still have those fleshly desires does that make sense so if you want to look at the spirit as being like these desires you know you know what are you desiring are you desiring the things of the flesh are you desiring the things of God and of the Spirit of God and that is where if you destroy the flesh okay then that'll get you back on the right track or at least that's the path of getting you back on the right track okay so go to 1st Corinthians chapter 5 verse 6 so that is a warning shot to anybody that would get into some grievous sin to be kicked out of church because and I'm going to show you here after we get it after we get after this part right here but that when a pastor or a church practices church discipline God regards that okay God regards that I'm gonna I'm gonna prove that from the Bible but God regards that that means that it's not like we're just saying it that's a big deal so I take it very seriously if I were to kick someone out of church I'm not just gonna throw that around and and not you know think about that in a serious manner or have gravity towards that situation because it is a very serious matter but in 1st Corinthians chapter 5 verse 6 here oh by the way you know what that's what separates us from being a cult because you know what if we're kicking people out that doesn't sound too much like a cult does it okay because anybody can go in calm as they please and actually if people are gonna be heretics they're out the door if people are gonna be predators they're out the door if people are gonna be in some grievous sin that's against the Bible they're gonna be out the door so you know what that's that's opposite of a church of a cult because a cult is gonna basically state state that you can't go okay unless you drink the Kool-Aid or something so 1st Corinthians chapter 5 verse 6 here it says your glory is not good know ye not that a little leaven leaven at the whole lump sound familiar because when we went through Galatians it uses that same terminology but when it was talking about a little leaven leaven at the whole lump it was talking about specific person right but in that case you're dealing with a false prophet right you're dealing with someone with damnable heresy here we're not dealing with a false prophet or a false prophet or damnable heresy we're dealing with a grievous sin so leaven is used in both those cases as being something that will basically corrupt the church so that little bit of leaven to that one person can completely leaven that whole church and corrupt that whole church so those sins even though we look at it be like wow you know people of the world commit it yeah but that can corrupt the whole church because then everybody's gonna look at that and say well that's acceptable and then the whole church starts doing it and then you have scandals and adultery and like all this other stuff going on you know what you need to nip it in the bud you need to hit it when you first notice that that's that's a problem so that's not running rampant and you know what if someone gets kicked out maybe that'll scare other people that may be doing it that no one knows about but and keep reading there in verse 7 there says purge out there for the old leaven so notice how it's using this as an example it's talking about leaven little leaven leaven at the whole time it's basically purge that out get that out okay because if that leavens in there it's gonna basically puff up the whole lump right that's that's not the biblical term but you know being puffed up you know that is a biblical aspect there purge out there for the old leaven that you may be a new lump as ye are unleavened for even Christ our Passover is sacrificed for us therefore let us keep the feast not with old leaven neither with the leaven of malice and wickedness but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth so notice how it's like getting leaven unto sin in this example and unleavened you know being unleavened as you know truth and sincerity right and just those two opposites right but you got to purge out that sin you got to get that sin out now obviously no church is perfect and everybody has sin if we say that we have no sin we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us and that's what people usually want to you know say well you know how you gonna kick someone out for being a sinner you know you're a sinner yeah but you know what not everybody's a murderer did you know that not everybody's you know like in some deep like dark sin that's in the Bible yeah we're all sinners we're not all struggling with being a drunkard I don't know about you but I'm not okay I praise the Lord because then I wouldn't be qualified you know to be a pastor I was just some alcoholic up here actually I don't think anybody you know as far as I know no one in our church is an alcoholic no one in our churches is a drunk no one in our church is an extortioner so obviously you can say well you know but you know yeah ask the people in your church if they ever drank any alcohol that's that's that's beside the point obviously we you know everybody has sinned and done different things and you know we're not gonna go raise our hands and tell everybody what we've done or what we haven't done but at the same time you know there's a difference between what someone did in the past and what they're doing now and you know what you know what this reminds me of this reminds me of the Pharisees that will basically teach for doctrines commandments of men and they'll make void the commandment of God through their tradition it's like well you are saying well you know I can't judge on these matters you're getting rebuked in this chapter because Paul's gonna say you're not gonna judge in these matters he's gonna rebuke them for not judging in these matters and not taking care of business and you know what if you're guilty you know because you're like well you can't be hypocritical in judgment well listen if you're a fornicator then you shouldn't be a pastor if you're an extortioner then you shouldn't be a pastor if you're covetous you shouldn't be a pastor if you're anything on these lists you shouldn't be a pastor so guess what that'll take care of that problem get someone in there that's not those things and then he can take care of business and kick out the people that are you know offending in those cases okay so listen this is not a respecter of persons on lists here because if the pastor is guilty of it guess what he should be kicked out too so but listen the pastor has a big list of qualifications and listen but these things are gonna that would apply to the pastor as well okay but in go to first I'm sorry Exodus chapter 12 because we see here that Christ our Passover this is the one place now we are we we already kind of assessed that right because you can see that Jesus is called the Lamb of God which taketh away the sin of the world and we know that he was killed you know Isaiah 53 it says like a you know a sheep to the slaughter you know like a lamb before his shears is dumb you know so he openeth not his mouth the fact that he's going as a lamb that he's you know the Lamb of God taketh away the sin of the world that he literally was killed when the Passover was killed on the day but first Corinthians 5 just straight-up says that Christ is our Passover so this is an important verse just for that aspect that it just confirms all that to be true even though technically that verse wasn't there I mean it we would still know that's true right you you could you could figure you could fill in the blanks okay but this straight-up says that Jesus Christ is our Passover Anna sit down and stop moving around now in Exodus chapter 12 is where you had the Passover and notice what it says here just to show you the Passover in verse for example verse 5 okay and so I'm not gonna go through the whole Passover here but just so you see here it says verse 5 says your lamb shall be without blemish a male of the first year you shall take it out from the sheep or from the goats and you shall keep it up until the 14th day of the same month and the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel shall kill it in the evening that's literally what happened with Jesus okay and you know it says in first Peter that it he's as a lamb without blemish and without spot you know the blood you know of Jesus is as a lamb without blemish without spot and you know you take the blood it says in verse 7 and they take of the blood and strike it on the two two side posts and the upper door post of the houses wherein ye shall eat it and they shall eat the flesh in that night I'm sorry and they shall eat the flesh in in that night roast with fire and unleavened bread with bitter herbs they shall eat it so they're roasting this sacrifice with fire gave this lamb it's a burnt offering go to Genesis chapter 22 you know what's interesting is that lamb if you just look up the word lamb you're gonna see the first two places Genesis 22 and Exodus 12 and Genesis 22 is the picture of Jesus obviously and Isaac obviously was offered this is a picture of the Lord Jesus but I want to show you this verse right here it says verse 7 it says so Genesis chapter 22 and verse 7 it says and Isaac spake unto Abraham his father and said my father and he said here am I my son and he said behold the fire in the wood but where is the lamb for a burnt offering and Abraham said my son God will provide himself a lamb for a burnt offering so they went both of them together now if you know the story it wasn't a lamb that showed up it was a ram caught in the thicket a lamb is is a young you know ram or sheep you know depending on gender right obviously Jesus as a man so obviously the ram makes sense okay as being an adult but the fact that it says I will he will provide himself a lamb and like I said in the Bible says that behold the Lamb of God it taketh away the sin of the world now we just got done going through Revelation chapter 5 where you see the lamb as it as if it had been slain chapter 6 is gonna be talking about the wrath of the lamb you know the lamb is talked about throughout the book of Revelation so the idea of Jesus being the Passover is very clear now go to Luke chapter 22 Luke 22 and what I want to show you here is that the Passover Jesus obviously fulfilled the Passover but the equivalent of keeping the Feast of the Passover is the Lord's Supper okay and no coincidence that 1st Corinthians hits on the Lord's Supper a lot and this is the first place where it's kind of hitting on this because it's talking about keeping the feast with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth chapter 10 is gonna be hitting on the communion of the Lord and the cup of the Lord's table it kind of hits on that but I just want to show you that when when the Lord when the when Jesus did the Last Supper as we call it he was eating the Passover with his disciples okay so in Luke 22 verse 14 it says and when the hour was come he sat down in the 12 apostles with him and he said unto them with desire I have desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer for I say unto you I will not any more eat thereof until it be fulfilled in the kingdom of God and he took the cup and gave thanks and said take this and divide it among yourselves for I say unto you I will not drink of the fruit of the vine until the kingdom of God shall come by the way that's what it says in every place where he did the supper meaning that said the fruit of the vine he didn't even say wine okay so this idea of having alcoholic wine doesn't even say wine in any of those places it says the fruit of the vine it's almost like God knew that people would be twisting that word and trying to say this alcoholic and he even put in there the fruit of the vine just so you know we're talking about fruit they're drinking fruit okay they're not drinking alcohol but keep reading there that's a sign that it has nothing to do in my sermon right now besides don't be a drunkard so so yeah but I guess it does apply in a certain aspect there verse 19 it says and he took bread and gave thanks and break it and gave unto them saying this is my body which is given to you for you this do in remembrance of me likewise also the cup after supper saying this cup is the New Testament in my blood which is shed for you so I want you to see that it's very clear that the Lord's Supper has replaced oh man I can't believe you said that it has replaced the feast of the Passover right the feast of unleavened bread which is the Passover it's replaced that okay just like the Old Testament was replaced by the New Testament the Passover was replaced by the Lord's Supper okay and say why are you pointing that out well I want to point this out because I want to answer something in 1st Corinthians chapter 11 now we're gonna be get the 1st Corinthians chapter 11 but there's other things I want to hit on 1st Corinthians chapter 11 but in verse 27 here I want to explain what why someone shouldn't eat the Lord's Supper okay and this is my reasoning of why I believe you would say okay I'm not gonna eat the Lord's Supper as a believer and notice what it says in verse 27 here so we just got done saying talking about the Lord's Supper and kind of just the same thing we read in Luke 22 to be honest and 1st Corinthians chapter 11 when verse 27 says wherefore whosoever shall eat this bread and drink this cup of the Lord unworthily shall be guilty of the blood our body and blood of the Lord but let a man examine himself and so let him eat of that bread and drink of that cup for he that eateth and drinketh unworthily eateth and drink a damnation to himself not discerning the Lord's body now I don't believe this is talking about unbelievers although you know if you're a reprobate you know like Judas then yeah I mean there's gonna be definitely a consequence like you're just kind of adding damnation to yourself as far as eternal damnation but what this is actually talking about is talking about believers examining themselves I believe I don't believe this is examining yourself whether you'd be in the faith kind of like 2nd Corinthians 13 talks about because of what's said right after this okay notice what says in verse 30 for this cause many are weak and sickly among you and many sleep for if we would judge ourselves we should not be judged so notice how he's putting himself in this example right examine yourselves right if we would judge ourselves it says but we I'm sorry but when we are judged we are chastened of the Lord that we should not be condemned with the world so notice that chastening is applied there okay so this meaning this is that when he's talking about examining yourselves and eating the Lord's Supper he's talking about you know if you're sick or even if some people sleep meaning some people died because they took this it's because they didn't examine they didn't judge themselves and they ate it unworthily now what would it mean to eat it unworthily well I believe eating it with leaven would be unworthy unworthy right would that make sense if you're supposed to eat this with unleavened bread and by the way you know an alcoholic beverage that has leaven in it okay so another point of why it's non alcoholic okay there's not leaven in the drink and there's not leaven in the bread okay but if there's leaven I believe that would be basically defiling the Lord's Supper if you will if you just you know just on a surface level of putting leaven in the bread right when we do the Lord's Supper we don't put any leaven in the bread okay there's a point for that and but spiritually speaking I believe this is talking about grievous sins like 1st Corinthians chapter 5 is talking about now here's the thing in a perfect world I knew any grievous sin that was going on in the church and I kicked the person out you wouldn't even have to worry about does that make sense perfect world you don't have to worry about it but how about this you think there's a chance that someone could be coming to church and no one knows about a grievous sin that they're in is that possible so you know what this warning is for that person that person that's in a grievous sin like fornication drunkenness covetousness extortion railing whatever you know whatever on that list you know what that is it's leaven and if you know people knew about it and if the pastor knew about it you know what they wouldn't even be here to be able to eat does that make sense like they wouldn't even be able to take the feast you know or take the the Lord's Supper if that was known but if you don't know or if no one knows about it but it's still going on that's where I believe people are sick and people are even in a case of you know there's a sin unto death kind of thing right and keep that in mind when you read this next passage here in 1st Corinthians chapter 5 verse 9 here so that's my reasoning and you can disagree with me on that and be like well I think that's just talking about not being saved or something like that but to me the chastening is what links that in that you're definitely talking about a safe person but I don't believe this is talking about like just confessing all your sins like you have to have a moment of silence to confess all your sins now there's nothing wrong with that okay I'm not here to say like you shouldn't do that okay because anytime is a good time to confess your sins to the Lord but I don't believe that this is just talking about unconfessed sins or whatever the case may be I think this is talking about grievous sins like sins that would get you kicked out of a church kind of sins that that has a harsh punishment if you're eating the Lord's Supper knowing that you're in those sins okay and that is what that warning is about now 1st Corinthians chapter 5 verse 9 keep this all in mind it says in verse 9 it says I wrote unto you in an epistle not the company with fornicators yet not all together with the fornicators of this world or with the covetous or extortioners or with idolaters but then must genies go out of the world so he's basically he's putting in caveat in here you know don't come here with fornicators but he's saying but I'm not talking about the unsaved because if you don't company with them how in the world are you gonna win people to Christ how you gonna you know so the idea is that you got to be in the world but not of the world okay so we're not gonna go on a convent so you know this completely annihilates the idea of being Amish or Mennonite this annihilates you know going on some convent or just you know buying a piece of property and just getting away from everybody okay because that's not what Jesus said you know I don't want to take them out of the world but keep them from the evil right it's kind of like you need to be in the world but don't be of the world be in the world but don't be you know basically you know in the evil and all the stuff they're doing be separate but in where did I stop there verse verse 11 it says but now I've written unto you not to keep company if any man that is called a brother be a fornicator so see the distinction there we're talking about keeping company with brothers in Christ brothers or sisters in Christ that are in specific grievous sins okay and it says if a brother be a fornicator or covetous or an idolater or a railer or a drunkard or an extortioner with such and one notice this know not to eat what were we just talking about keeping the keeping the feast of the Passover right now you could take that beyond that because obviously if someone's kicked out of the church I'm not going to be fellowshipping with them outside of the church either okay kind of defeat the purpose of you know kind of distancing yourself from that person and cutting yourself off from that person you know so they get things right okay but at the same time in context what specifically are we talking about I believe we're talking about eating the Lord's Supper I believe we're talking about coming together and you could even take it as far as break you know coming together and breaking bread with each other because I don't think breaking bread is always talking about keeping the Lord's Supper I think that could just be talking about fellowship okay it could be talking about keeping the Lord's Supper as well but that being said I believe that's what we're talking about here notice in verse 12 it says for what have I to do to judge them also that are without so he's basically saying you know I'm not judging those that are without do not ye judge them that are within now that's not that's a rhetorical question meaning that he's he's rebuking them with that you should be judging people that are within why aren't you dealing with this it says in verse 13 but them that are without God judges therefore put away from among yourselves that wicked person meaning this I believe even with the case of you know if you cast someone out of the church you know what you're doing you're putting it into God's hands and God could be lifting that that hedge of protection on that person to where Satan's going to come in and destroy the flesh to purify their minds if you will meaning that God's going to use that and you know what God's gonna you know you can look at this as God judging them saved obviously you know because we're not you know judging them but we're just judging those that are within our authority lies in the church I'm not going around telling people what to do or kicking them out of their you know people's families and stuff like that for their their sins but listen I have been made the overseer of Mountain Baptist Church I am the bishop of Mountain Baptist Church and you know what I'm going to you know rule well at least try to right that's my job is to rule well and if I see leaven I'm going to cut it out I'm going to cut it out so that it doesn't leaven everybody else you say well you just don't care about that person you know what I care about everybody that's in this church and if I have to cut one out to save the rest I'm going to do it okay now it's not that I don't care about the person I'm cutting out because I do it's just that this is God's design to get that person right okay because you know what our society is filled with a bunch of enablers meaning that someone does something wrong and they're just like well I'm just going to help them out in this you know what sometimes you just need to let them just suffer it's it's sad and especially when you deal with parents with their children you know what sometimes when you know what when that that that child is you know not paying rent and spending their money on things they shouldn't be spending it on and then they're just they get into you know they just keeps happening over and over and over again maybe sometimes you just let them not know what to do and let them struggle until they get you know figure out that hey I can't do this maybe it should be like the prodigal son where they're eating corn husks or would feign to fill their belly with corn husks to the point where they just come to themselves right remember he kind of came to himself what is that the destruction of the flesh that the spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus you know what that son got right came back to the father and was humbled okay but the problem is is we don't let people get humbled and we you know what we veil it with charity we veil it with love you know what we love them too much you know what the Lord loveth him he chasteneth and discourageth every son whom we receive it you know you know what you know what's not love is not disciplining and not chastening because the bible says he that spareth his rod hateth his son he that loveth the son chase chasteneth him betimes you know what times means early you don't just wait until it's just like infecting everything else you you nip it in the blood okay now there's there's things on here that I think everybody knows what we're talking about here we're talking about fornicators okay kind of hit that because that's that's the one that's that's pertinent to this chapter right but then you have covetous okay and covetousness you know that's where you're dealing with someone that that's all they ever talk about is money it's like people that are just like you know just money money money money material material material and it's just like and you know what that does it that gets infectious because then people start thinking oh I need these materials too I need this or that it's not it's not wrong to talk about like things every once in a while I'll be like talking about well you know I'm building my house over here well you're talking about all those material things it's like you know you can talk about materials but if that's all it's about and that's just your whole mindset is just wrapped around that then there's a problem right if if you came up to me and that's all I was ever talking about is material things you know or clothing or whatever the case may be actually clothing you'll probably never have to worry about that because I I had the same clothes I would wear the same clothes for the rest of my life if it didn't if they didn't wear out I find clothes that fit and they fit nice and I and they're comfortable and I just wear them all the time actually you know it's it's just one of those things I hate shopping too I hate shopping and and this doesn't just be like oh you know just to prove to you I'm not coverage I'm just telling you a fact I hate shopping if I know I need to I want to know where it's at in the store before I get to the store so I can beeline it there and get out of there like I don't I don't understand the whole browsing and looking and all that stuff I can't even do Amazon to be honest with you I get on Amazon I'm like what do I look for like where do I start you know if I don't know where I'm going with Amazon I might as well get on there but that being said that some people deal with that and here's the thing we all have things that we deal with that other people don't right shopping is not my not my Achilles heel okay racy cups maybe so but it didn't say anything about gluttony on here did it I'm joking obviously you know you don't want to be slothful and you know all that but but railing is I think one that I just kind of want to give you some verses on this to kind of explain what I believe this is talking about now the word gets thrown around a lot and it is a biblical term but when you look up the term like if you just look up the definition of the term railer or like railing or you know to rail on something is to utter bitter complaint or vehement denunciation now complaining in the bible most of times bad like complaining about something but being like a bitter complaint right it's not right to be bitter because you in the bible sometimes like david will make his complaint right and and it's kind of like a biblical you're like complaining but it's not this bitter thing it's kind of more this like bringing it you know casting all your care upon him kind of kind of complaint right but then you've got complainers you know what I'm talking about and when I think of someone that's railing is someone that's complaining you know and they're just like they're they're they're spreading like you know they're speaking evil on you now railing I don't think is inherently a false accusation okay I think it can be okay and I think a lot of times railing is bringing up false accusations right but if you were just to be like you're preaching sucks you know you you are horrible at this you can't put a sermon together you're you're like off with this right now you could be subjective and say that person's falsely accusing you because you're like your sermons are awesome you know I'm just kidding but but do you see how you can like rail against somebody but it's not necessarily a false accusation but you are speaking evil of them you are like reviling them kind of thing but I do think in a lot of cases people that are railers are making false accusations in a lot of cases they don't know what they're talking about and that's what I want to talk about here is that they're speaking of things that they don't understand okay and that's what a lot of cases which in turn a lot of times will be making false accusations because you don't know what you're talking about does that make sense so you're like complaining you're murmuring about something you don't even understand now go to second peter chapter two second peter chapter two and verse 10 now we never had this problem in our church that I know of but uh meaning like I've never had a problem where I had people in my church like just railing either about me or even other people because this isn't always like coming at the pastor this could be coming at each other right so if someone's a railer in church it could be like they're railing against other people in the church and like um but notice what it says in second peter chapter two in verse 10 it says but chiefly them that walk after the flesh in the lust of uncleanness and despise government presumptuous are they self-willed they are not afraid to speak evil of dignity so notice what we're prefacing when we get to railing accusation here is that they despise government and they're not afraid to speak evil of dignity so we're talking about like basically speaking evil of authorities or basically um you know bringing uh you know evil report if you will towards uh someone that's in authority verse 11 it says whereas angels which are greater in power and might bring not railing accusation against them before the lord so when you're talking about railing accusation you know i don't believe that equates to false accusation but it is basically talking about basically bringing a bitter vehement complaining accusation about something and what it's going to get into is that when you bring an accusation about something you don't know what you're talking about that's bad okay because you're basically setting yourself up to just be completely in the wrong okay and most of the time you're just not going to be right about it notice what it says in the next verse says but these as natural brute beasts made to be taken and destroyed speak evil of the things which they understand not and shall utterly perish in their own corruption because they're speaking evil things uh speaking uh evil of things which they understand not now and jude it kind of gives the same thing talking about how uh michael the archangel does not bring against the devil a railing accusation but said the lord rebuked thee and the same kind of thing about despising government and all these other things meaning this that michael won't even bring a railing accusation against the devil okay so meaning that he's saying the lord rebuked thee i'm not going to be the one to basically make this this type of complaining accusation against him and a lot of times i think about this like ah the devil's you know doing this to me it's like first of all maybe but you don't know that okay so in some cases you might actually not be telling a lie but do you really know what's going on do you know all the circumstances you're speaking to things that you don't understand okay and when you're dealing with this um go to uh jude uh one of verse uh fourteen there it says in enoch also the seventh from adam prophesied of these saying behold the lord cometh with ten thousands of his saints to execute judgment upon all and to convince all of their ungodly i'm sorry of uh again convince all that are ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds which they have ungodly committed and of all their hard speeches with ungodly sinners have spoken against him these are murmurers complainers walking at their own lusts and their mouths speak of great swelling words having men's persons in admiration because of advantage now there's a verse in proverbs that i think couples with this he that answers the matter before he heareth it it is shame and folly unto him or folly and shame unto him so meaning that you answer something or you're you're rebuking something or you're you're basically bringing an accusation that you don't even understand you haven't even heard it and a lot of times before you heard it meaning before you understood it before you had all the facts behind what you're saying okay i'll give you i'll give you an example someone just posted on like when i preached against that pro the the sermon against the heresy of uh repentance someone posted on there and said this is a calculated uh sermon against like pastor mcmurdery and paul whitenberger and listen this that sermon had nothing to do with them okay nothing to do with them so but you know what that is that's a railing accusation because you're speaking about something you don't even know obviously it's a false accusation right because it wasn't you know like i'm not i'm not out to like make anybody feel bad about who they're friends with okay but you know what we had a family you know like that that started coming and and you know sometimes you just gotta deal with false doctrines that if a family were to leave a church because of certain false doctrines you know what i'm gonna preach on it and if a false teacher gets in my way guess what i'm gonna use them as an example so uh you can put that in your pipe and smoke it but in the end you know what that's answering a matter before you hear it that that's answering a matter before you had no you had no idea what was going on in our church you had no idea who i was preaching to or for but you just well because there's drama going on here and there you know i gotta basically put my two cents in here and start rebuking a pastor for what he preaches online and who he preaches against because you know what i said to the person i'm like so do you agree with shiftlet do you agree with him is that who you're defending or is it just because you're upset that i i i preached against someone that someone else is friends with which honestly i had i don't care who's friends with him because i'm not friends with him and that's all you should probably care about too is who you're i mean as far as if you're gonna if you're gonna care about uh you know a pastor and who he's friends with you should probably care about who your pastor is friends with and just kind of leave it at that you know i mean as far as that goes especially so you obviously know i'm not friends with shiftlet because i preached you know a whole sermon against him but there's an example of a railing accusation but we don't want to just throw that term out there and just be like everybody's railing they're railing they're railing and railing it's like just because someone says something mean about somebody doesn't necessarily mean they're railing okay um but more so it's it's dealing with speaking about things you don't know right you're bringing accusations about things you don't you don't understand you're not you're not privy to the information and with the cases the two cases that you see like in second peter and then jude you're dealing with like angels right you're dealing with things like do you know right do you know for sure that the devil's the one that gave you that flat tire right do you know for sure and so when you start accusing like people like the devil or you know anybody like the demons or you know whatever the case may be you know what you're kind of setting yourself up to make a railing accusation on that so you're better to just not speak on things that you don't understand okay meaning that you know what when i reviewed shiftlet guess what i understood what he said i mean show me where i was mistaken on what he preached in jonathan chapter three show me show me you know and then at that point then i'll eat crow and say yeah i was speaking of things i didn't understand i was railing against that pastor because you know what uh he didn't actually preach that the way i said he preached that but i challenge you to go look up that sermon and tell me that he's preaching anything other than what i i preached on you know i'm i'm you know fallible you know meaning like i can make mistakes but at the same time that's a big difference you see the difference there between rebuking a false prophet and speaking about something you know to be true you know what they preach you know what the bible says and then just like throwing out accusations about you know what someone did or didn't do okay we need to be careful about that stuff okay you don't want to just throw out stuff um and throw out accusations and just start just and here's the thing do you want to church let's just say it just means complainers do you want a church full of complainers okay show i could show you the verses and verses about murmurs complainers whether it be in the wilderness you know the church that's in the wilderness or in the new testament talking about it and how that destroys churches and how that destroys congregations when you have a bunch of complainers listen if you're going to complain go home okay and if that's all you're ever going to do is just put a wet blanket on everything complain about everything just be a debbie downer a negative nancy about everything that we do you know what we don't want you here okay so that's what i believe you know railing is is dealing with there now ultimately the goal is restoration go to second corinthian chapter two second corinthian chapter two so we need to remember this because some people take things too far right it's kind of like the bible says there's a time to hate it's like okay but just know this that's a small group of people okay so don't take you know like it's a good doctrine it's biblical but just know this that that's a very small percentage of the population that we should be like hating and and praying imprecatory prayers to okay and the same thing with like church discipline this isn't like a chapter to just be like it's time to throw some people out you know and just like have fun doing it you know you know what i i don't believe i'm ever gonna have fun throwing anybody out that's like a brother in christ or a sister in christ that's in some deep sin that's going to be a sad thing to do it's not going to be fun ultimately the whole point of that is for restoration the whole point is so that they get it right they come back into the fold and and we we continue on right we've we forgive and forget you know and if anybody ever gets kicked out of the church for sin and they get it right and come back you know what they should it should never be mentioned to them again okay and obviously i'm talking i'm not talking about predators okay so you know you know how this makes how this works is that you you take that part out okay predators homos you know like serial killers you know what i mean like you take the psychopaths out of the equation now you know what if someone comes back in that was in fornication or they were into alcohol or you know they were whatever the case may be they're an extortioner you know what they get right come back and you're just like you know what don't even mention it let's just keep going let's not even think about it don't bring it up don't make them feel guilty about it just you know what your sins and iniquities are well i remember no more type of attitude okay that's the way that restoration should work and notice in verse five here of second corinthian chapter two it says but if any have caused grief he hath not grieved me but in part that i may not overcharge you all sufficient to such a man is this punishment which was inflicted to many i believe we're talking about the man that was actually ended up being kicked out so i i believe they heeded you know the rebuke and they kicked this guy out and paul's addressing this saying basically you need to forgive him and you know what restore okay notice what says number seven it says so that contrary wise yet rather to forgive him and comfort him lest perhaps such an a one should be swallowed up with over much sorrow wherefore i beseech you that you would confirm your love toward him for to this end also did i write that i might know the proof of you whether you be obedient and all things so he basically like i wrote this to see if you'd be obedient you were but you know what don't take it too far right you need to restore this person you need to restore this man so that you know he's just not overburdened with sorrow you know comfort him forgive him verse 10 to whom ye forgive anything i forgive also for if i forgave anything to whom i forgave it for for your sakes forgave i it in the person of christ lest satan should get get an advantage of us for we are not ignorant of his devices so you delivered him unto satan to the destruction of the flesh that the spirit may be saved in the day the lord he is you know what he learned his lesson you know what restore this person that's ultimately the goal and so there's a happy ending i believe to the story so first corinthians five yet sad and it's something that's not fun to do when it comes to church discipline but in the end that's something that needs to be taken care of and hopefully it ends like this guy did that was a grievous sin but you know what i believe he got back into church and he was you know what purified through it he was chastened and he was a better person having gone through that process okay go to matthew chapter 18 and i'm just going to kind of hit this really quick okay meaning this is that matthew 18 is another case where someone will be kicked out of church but this is different than first corinthians 5 okay now just so you know i have a church bylaws you know because like to make a church or make you know to like set up a church you technically have to have bylaws my bylaws state that i can i have the right as a pastor to uh to remove anybody from church based off of first corinthians 5 matthew chapter 18 and any reason i deem necessary according to the king james bible okay because ultimately there's reasons to kick people out that aren't in matthew 18 that aren't in first corinthians chapter 5 and people are you know what people are gonna do they're gonna say well you should have done matthew chapter 18 well matthew chapter 18 is dealing with personal like grievances between people in church and church like you you sinned against one person first corinthians chapter 5 is dealing with a grievous sin that everybody knows about you don't even have to be dealing with somebody in the church but you know what it's a grievous sin matthew chapter 18 verse 15 it says moreover if thy brother shall trespass against thee go and tell him his fault between thee and him alone if he shall hear thee thou has gained thy brother so you're talking about a personal beef between two people in the church he's saying you know what the best way to deal with this just deal with it yourselves go to that person get it right then it says but if he will not hear thee then take with thee one or two more then in the mouth that at the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established so it's basically saying if that doesn't work take a couple people with you so that you know what they witness that this person just won't hear you okay but if that doesn't work then if he shall neglect to hear them tell it unto the church but if you neglect to hear the church let him be unto thee as a heathen man and a publican okay so this is not first corinthians five does that make sense this is a different type of situation and so this is different in the fact that you're dealing with someone sitting against another brother somehow and it's not like maybe even known throughout the whole church but it's a grievance and you know what it didn't they wouldn't listen to the person themselves that he that he wronged he wouldn't listen when he had two people there and he wouldn't listen if you had the whole church so this is this progression of how to deal with it without making a big scene okay but ultimately if you bring it before the church and you're just like you know what nasty you guys i'm not getting this right right you just will not you know deal with the situation then you know what then the church has the right to lose that person and notice what it says in verse 18 barely i say to you whatsoever ye shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven and whatsoever ye shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven this is the same thing that said in matthew chapter 16 when it says upon this rock while i build my church and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it and it says and i will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loose in heaven we're talking about loosing and binding members within a church right we're talking about whether you kick someone out you're loosing them if you bring them back in you bind them okay so what this is meaning is that god regards it okay so if a church decides that person is going to be kicked out then you know what god regards that and if i as a pastor decide that hey this person is 11 they're gonna 11 the whole lump and i kick them out god regards that person as being loosed that's a big deal okay so uh that being said is that that's church discipline now do i i don't want to deal with that i don't want to do it okay i wish all my kids were awesome and they never needed a spanking right i mean don't we all don't we all just with our children we're like god's gift that came down and they didn't need any discipline but when you show me that special child let me know because i haven't found it yet but that that being said is that we don't we don't want to do it but we do it because we care we do it because we want them to turn out right and that is what first christian chapter five is dealing with and we as a church need to remember that you know what it could end up happening and know that this is biblical this is something that god has laid out but know this too ultimately we want them to be restored okay so keep that in mind you don't want to burn bridges with people okay if someone gets into some grievous sin don't just like tell that person off make them feel like mud you know what just cut ties with them be like you need to get this right get this right and we can have fellowship again and not don't just burn bridges with people when it comes to this type of stuff okay because if you just start mouthing off them saying all kinds of things about them blasting them on social media good luck that person trying to come back to the church would you want to come back i wouldn't so think about that before you start blasting people about their sins when it's being dealt with with the church okay so uh let's end with the word of prayer father we thank you for today thank you for your word thank you for the this chapter and just pray that you would help us that if we ever need to deal with this lord to deal with it uh the way you'd want us to and lord just pray that you'd uh help this not to be a problem obviously we would love that we'd never have to deal with it but lord just help me as the pastor to uh be able to oversee and to not let any leaven get into the church whether it's false doctrine or whether it's grievous sin and lord we just love you in prayer in jesus christ name amen so brother they will come and sing one more song and then we'll be dismissed all right take your song books and turn to song 75 song number 75 we'll sing on jordan's stormy banks and if you would stand we'll sing song number 75 on jordan's stormy banks i stand and cast a wishful eye to canin's fair and happy land where my possessions lie i am bound for the promised land i am bound for the promised land oh who will come and go with me i am bound for the promised land all or those wide extended plane shines one eternal day there god the sun forever rains and scatters night away i am bound for the promised
