We're gonna go through the second half of Matthew chapter 26 this evening So we're gonna start around verse number 33 or so, maybe I'll recap a couple verses back But basically what we've had in the first sermon was you know Jesus was anointed by Mary she poured the oil on his head then Judas of course betrays Jesus he sells him out for 30 pieces of silver to the Pharisees to the religious leaders You know, we saw that Judas was the treasurer, you know, I'm thinking that Judas volunteered for that job You know if he loved the money so much that he would sell out the Lord Jesus Christ but of course that's all part of the plan part of the the prop fulfilling of prophecy of the purpose of Jesus coming to the earth so we saw that then we saw of course You know Jesus having the Passover feast the Last Supper and then he institutes the Lord's Supper. So we went through that on Last Wednesday, so we're gonna start out look at in verse number 30 The Bible says it's just interesting in verse number 30 It says and when they sung in him they went out into the Mount of Olives So now they leave the supper and they sung a hymn. I mean that sounds kind of familiar, doesn't it? It sounds kind of like us Ephesians 5 19 You don't have to turn there, but it says speak speaking to yourselves and Psalms and hymns and spiritual songs Singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord, you know, that's why we sing hymns We're supposed to make melody in our heart to the Lord, you know with these spiritual songs that we sing I mean, that's something that you should enjoy doing, you know It's one of those another one of those things that will tell you how you're doing in your Christian life If you don't like hymns, you know, maybe you do not listen to the right type of music You know, I mean this isn't a sermon on music, but that's what worldly music will do It's funny if you get into worldly music, you'll stop liking the spiritual songs You'll stop liking the hymns and you'll start having those songs play in your head and occupy You know you're thinking other than those songs and hymns and spiritual songs. Okay, just a just a starting point Look at verse 31 of Matthew 26 Then say a Jesus unto them all you shall be offended because of me this night for it is written I will smite the shepherd and the sheep of the flock shall be scattered abroad. Of course. This is a reference We looked at this We're not going to turn there but to reference to a prophecy in Zechariah 13 verse 7 where the Bible prophesies that the Bible says that It's a dual prophecy there says this the shepherd of course Jesus is going to be smited and the flock are gonna the scab they're gonna scatter just like is about to happen Look at verse 32, but after I'm risen again, I will go before you into Galilee Peter answered and said unto him So he said you're gonna be offended because of me tonight and then Peter answered and said unto him though All men shall be offended because of thee yet. I will never be offended. So Peters Puffs himself up and he says look everybody can flee and run but I will never leave you I will never be offended because of you and Jesus says unto him saith unto him said unto him Verily I say indeed yet that this night before the cock crow that's before that the rooster crows in the morning You ever had a rooster? Unfortunately, they crow in the morning. They crow all day long. That's why you should never have a rooster ever. No, I'm just kidding But anyway, the roosters start to crow in the morning. Okay, so he's saying look before the Sun comes up It's nighttime right now before the Sun comes up. You are going to you know, deny me three times So he tells Jesus Jesus tells Peter this and Peter saith unto him in verse 35 though I should die with thee yet. Why not deny thee likewise also said all the disciples so keep in mind It wasn't just Peter that says this I mean, did you know that I mean all the disciples that were with Peter were like We're gonna just die with you. We'll never we'll never leave you. We'll never be offended We're just we're in this with you. Okay, look at but it's interesting because turn to John chapter 21 We talked about this Earlier, I think it was Sunday. We talked to I mentioned this but look Peter does end up denying Jesus and I talked to you about why Jesus when he came back from the dead Why did he ask Peter three times if he loved him and I believe my opinion is that because Peter denied Christ three times That's why Jesus asked him three times Peter. Do you love me? Do you love me? Do you love me? So he asked him the same thing so much to the point where Peter was just he was vexed the Bible says he was stressed Out by Jesus just keep asking him the same question because he says of course, I love you But then what he says it's interesting because Peter here he says to Jesus He's like, oh, I'll never be offended of you and I'll die with you if I have to and then of course He denies Christ three times So then Jesus remember in John 21, we're not gonna recap it But in John 21, Jesus asked Peter after he's risen from the dead. He asked him. Do you love me three times? But then the last thing that he says to Peter in that encounter is this in verse 18 of John 21 He says verily verily I say unto thee when thou what's young now girders thyself and walkest whither thou wouldest But when thou shalt be old thou shall stretch forth thine hands and another shall gird thee and carry thee whither thou wouldest not He's telling Peter here how he's going to die So it's interesting because he asked Peter denies him three times right before Peter says I'll never leave you I'll die with you if I have to and then Jesus asks him three times. Do you love me? Do you love me? Do you love me? And boy that by the way, you are going to end up dying for my name He tells Peter in John chapter 21. So that's just just interesting that Jesus he follows that up. He says oh by the way You will be killed. So gee, I mean Peter ends up fulfilling verse 35 of Matthew 2026 he does end up dying for the cause of Christ in his life go to Matthew 26 Matthew 26 and verse number 36 The Bible says then cometh Jesus with them unto a place place called Gethsemane and saith unto the disciples sit here ye sit ye here while I go and pray yonder So by the way, when Peter did die, you know Secular history says Peter was killed. He was crucified upside down just for an interesting little note He was crucified upside down because he said that he was not worthy to die the same death as Christ So he chose to be crucified upside down instead of just like Christ was crucified. So I mean Peter redeemed himself So, you know, he redeemed his his faithfulness to Christ. Okay Look at he didn't redeem himself. Okay, don't misquote me there So, all right, that's gonna be on someone's YouTube page or something He's like, oh, yeah, you know Peter worked his way to heaven or something. Anyway, all right, Matthew 26. Look at verse 36 Jesus goes to pray now and he says to the disciples sit here sit ye here while I go and pray yonder and he took with Him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee the sons of thunder James and John and he began to be sorrowful and very heavy It's very interesting. Don't don't don't miss these words here. He began to be sorrow sorrowful and very Heavy then sayeth he unto them. My soul is exceedingly sorrowful even unto death Look, that's sorrowful when you're so, you know down and and and Sorrowful that you feel like you could die. I mean that's a bad place You don't want to you don't want to be there Terry ye here and watch with me So what turn to Luke chapter 20 22? First of all, I want to point out that he was sorrowful He was full of sorrow. He was he was down. He was full of sorrow He was not afraid the Bible does not say he was afraid. He was full of sorrow sadness Okay, look at Luke 22 Let's look at another angle of this from the Gospel of Luke where the Bible says in Luke 22 42 Saying father if thou this is him praying now saying father if thou be willing remove this cup from me Nevertheless not my will but thine be done and there appeared an angel unto him from heaven Strengthening him. So the father just sends him an angel they were God the Father sends an angel to build him up to strengthen him and Being in agony He prayed more earnestly and his sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground So look he was stressed He was extremely stressed here. Now. Did he sweat actual blood? Well, I mean it says, you know, his his sweat was as it were Great drops of blood falling to the ground. I mean it could have said if it was just sweat It could have just said that his sweat was like great drops of water It could have said that you know, it was just great drops coming off of him But I mean, I do believe that there's a reason that it says it was actually, you know, great drops of blood I mean sweating blood is something that can happen It can suck. It's actually a medic a very rare medical condition Not like if the Bible says it happened it didn't just happen first of all, but it's actually a rare medical condition called her Hermatidrosis is actually sweating blood and it's caused by extreme physical and psychological stress So it sounds like that this could be you know him actually sweating blood even though it says it was as it were great drops Of blood falling to the ground. I mean, there's a reason that the word the Bible put blood in there Because that that's probably what happened Okay, so what Jesus the point I'm trying to make here is that Jesus is extremely stressed out here. He's sorrowful He's stressed out. He what why? Why because he knows what's coming? Because he knows what's about to happen to him, you know I think sometimes we read the story so many times we kind of just it becomes a vain repetition to us But you know what happened what's about to happen is very serious. It was a very, you know Extreme event that was about to happen to Jesus. Look at verse 39 And He went a little further and fell on his face and prayed saying oh my father if it be possible Let this cup pass from me. Nevertheless not as I will but as thou will now first of all You know, this isn't gonna be a sermon on the Trinity either but there's two different wills here. Okay, so Jesus it has a will he has a will he has the he's he's a man and he's God 100% of both and he has a will and he's just asking God like hey Is there any way that this doesn't have to happen to me? But then you know, it's very I mean he's sitting look first of all, he's simply asking God a question He's simply asking the Father a question Is there any way that this doesn't have to happen, but he quickly follows it up with this not as my will But as yours and that is a good way to pray Whenever you're praying for something first of all, this shows that you can ask God anything I mean Jesus whose whole point of his life was to come here and die and be the perfect Sacrifice for the sins of the world is asking God if there's any way out Is there any other way where what's about to happen doesn't have to happen? He's so stressed. He's sweating blood He's just asking God, you know, is there any other way but not my will be done Yours be done. He was never disobedient He was never disobedient. He simply asked a question So you can ask God anything that you want. The answer might be no As a matter of fact did God tell Jesus here did God the Father tell Jesus? Yeah, I mean, yeah We'll just change the plan. No God followed through on the plan that he had and Jesus followed through on the plan Okay, look at verse 41 Well verse 40 and he cometh unto the disciples and finding them asleep saith unto Peter what could you not watch with me one hour Watch and pray that you enter not into temptation the spirit indeed is willing but the flesh is weak He went against again away again a second time and prayed saying oh my father if this cup may not pass from me Except I drink it thy will be done Again, he says your will speaking to the father your will be done So there's two different wills I mean We definitely see the personhood of Jesus the personhood of the Father and other places in the Bible We see the person of the Holy Spirit as well. It's told, you know, there's there's three different persons here one God Okay, look at Matthew 26 and verse number 43 and he came and found them asleep again So for their eyes were heavy and he left them and went away and prayed the third time saying the same words Then cometh he to his disciples and saith unto them sleep now and take your rest behold the hours at hand And the Son of Man is betrayed into the hands of sinners rise. Let us be going behold He is at the hand He is at hand that doth betray me and while he yet spake lo Judas one of the twelve came and with him a great multitude with swords and staves from the chief priests and the elders of the people Now he that betrayed him gave them a sign saying this is Judas Of course whosoever I shall kiss that is he hold him fast and forthwith He came to Jesus and said hail master and kissed him. So he tells the guys he's like Hey, I'll go up and I'll kiss the one that's Jesus, you know, it's dark They're doing all this under you know darkness Of course because they don't want to take him during the day because of the people they feared the people Right, so he comes and he kisses Jesus and Jesus say unto him friend. Wherefore wherefore art thou come? He's like, where did you come from then came there and laid hands on Jesus and took him and behold one of them Which were with Jesus stretched out his hand and drew his sword and struck a servant of the high priest and smote off his ear Turn to John chapter 18. So who was this? somebody with Jesus had a sword pull out their sword and they they strike off the ear of You know the servant of the high priest look at John chapter 18 we get a different angle of who this was look at John chapter 18 and verse number 10 and the Bible says then Simon Peter having a sword drew it and Smote the high priests servant and cut off his right ear and the servants name was Malchus Then said Jesus to Peter put up thy sword into thy sheath the cup which my father hath given me Shall I not drink it? So first of all Jesus it's interesting this the words that he's using there I mean, there's a couple of things I want to point out here, but Jesus is asking in his prayer He's saying if this cup pass can pass from me if this cup and then he says here He says the cup that my father has given me. So he's received his answer. He's to drink the cup Okay, he is to not have that cup removed from him as he requested But he said that yet thy will be done to the father and he's gonna drink the cup and another interesting thing Is that Peter had a sword first of all, it was Peter and he just had a sword So, I mean is it wronged for you know, the disciples were armed Okay, and they were armed. I mean, but what does Jesus say to Peter? Okay, look at verse 52 Then Jesus said unto him put up again thy sword into its place for all they that take the sword Shall perish with the sword. He basically says turn to Ephesians chapter 6 This is where we get the saying live by the sword die by the sword. It's this verse right here, Matthew 26 52 so if somebody you know says live by the sword die by the sword. They're misquoting. Jesus is what they're doing They're just they're used as probably an NIV, you know version of it or something. But look at Ephesians 6 12 So Jesus says this to Peter who had a sword Jesus actually told the disciples by the way to go buy a sword You know what? I mean they were to have swords to defend themselves. They were to you know, they're living in the world It's it's a violent world out there look the world we live in today is a violent world out there There's nothing wrong in the world as a matter of fact the Bible teaches clearly that it is Okay, number one to be armed and number two to defend yourself with those arms But we're not to go out and just start wars and just start, you know fighting You know people that we don't like or we feel are evil or whatever. Look at the Ephesians chapter 6 and verse number 12 The Bible says this says for we wrestle not against flesh and blood but against principalities against powers against the rulers of the darkness of this world against spiritual wickedness in High places the Bible here is telling us what our battle is. Yes. It's good to be armed It's good to be able to defend yourself It's good to be able to defend your family against crime or evil or whatever that would attack and try to harm People that you are, you know in charge of and supposed to protect but our battle in this Christian Life is a spiritual battle It is a spiritual battle our charge. Look, it's not it's not a physical battle that we're supposed to fight It's not it's not a political battle that we're supposed to fight It is a spiritual Battle and look the spiritual wickedness is where? It's in high places I Mean there are principalities and powers. I mean, can you not see this? Can you not see this today? Especially this year. I mean, can you not see this happening? Not only in our country, but in the world I mean look at our choices for a president I'm not gonna get political but I mean we have like some wicked guy, you know and some game show host Who's also a wicked guy? I Mean it's it's it's it would be laughable if it wasn't wicked But look this it's spiritual wickedness in even higher places than that office in the highest places Okay, so that's our battle and that's why we are to go one-on-one So these these wicked leaders and wicked powers are influencing the people of the entire world Unfortunately in our battle is to take that spiritual truth to those people Before they can be influenced and taken over by those wicked powers that be that's the bottom line I mean the main issue is the wickedness is in high places It's corrupted most people and we are to focus on People with the gospel that is our that is our charge That is our charge look at verse number 53 I've got to hurry up. We got a lot to get through here Thinkest thou that I cannot pray to my father and she shall presently give me more than 12 legions of angels So he basically says look he's like this has to happen. I've got to drink this cup. He's like These they're not they don't have any power over me. He's like I could just call down heaven and it would just be done in like a Second right But how then shall the scriptures be fulfilled that it must be in that same hour said Jesus to the multitudes or you come out Against are you come out as against a thief with swords and stays for to take me? He's like I sat daily with you teaching in the temple and you laid no hold on me You know what? He just did right there. He just called him. He said you're a bunch of cowards Is what he just called him. He said you're a bunch of cowards He said I sat in the temple Every single day and you did nothing but you have to come and you have to get me in the dark You know, that's like, you know, you got a pro, you know some guy and you know is you know comes against you with ten People or something. It's like, you know, why don't you just fight one-on-one like a man? You know is what is what Jesus is basically saying here. He's like you're a bunch of cowards. He's like I was right there He's like you're afraid of those people Cowards he's like you're afraid of those people. So they're doing it in the darkness as Everything bad happens in the darkness. When's that when you see all this stuff going on by the way on the news? It's always at night It's always in the dark. I mean my dad used to always tell me he's like you want to stay out of trouble So you want to stay out of trouble? He's like just don't go anywhere after 10 o'clock or after 9 o'clock He's like, you know what just be home It's like cuz nothing good happens after 9 o'clock cuz it's dark it's the dark that's when the cockroaches come out That's when all the bad stuff happens Same thing here They're doing something evil. That's why all these places that you go and people go to drink. It's all just dark people don't want to go into a Bar or a casino that's well lit where they could just see I mean no they want to be in the dark Because they know that something's wrong that they're doing something wrong. It covers up their conscience verse 57 And they laid hold on Jesus and led away led him away to Caiaphas the high priest Where the scribes and the elders were assembled but Peter followed him afar off into the high priest place and went in and sat With the servants to see the end Oh, by the way verse 56 But when this was done the scriptures and the prophets might be fulfilled then all the disciples forsook him and fled They all ran away So they all said we're gonna die with you we're not gonna be offended they all just ran away And then they took Jesus away and Peter follows Peter follows along So they knew what was coming Matthew 26 and verse 59 now the chief priests and the elders and all the councils sought false witness against Jesus to put him to death But found none yea many false witnesses came yet. They found none at last came two false witnesses And then said this fellow said and I am able to destroy the temple of God and to build it in three days He was speaking about his body, of course and the high priest arose and said unto him answer ist thou nothing What is it which this witness said against thee verse 63? But Jesus held his peace and the high priest answered and said unto him I adjure thee by the living God that thou tell us first of all has Jesus said anything to this guy So all these these these people that say well Jesus never Jesus never claimed to be the Son of God Jesus never claimed to be the Christ. What was their problem with him? I Mean, he's not answering. He's not answering. He's not answering. They try to get false witnesses They can't find any finally They find these two guys that heard him say something that they didn't understand what it meant And they come in and they say something and he's still not answering and the high priest finally gets so angry He just comes out and says tell us whether or not he's like a journey by the living God that thou tell us whether thou be the Christ the Son of God They knew exactly what he was claiming to be Exactly and Jesus saith unto him thou hast said He's basically saying you said it Nevertheless I say unto you Hereafter shall you see the Son of Man sitting on the right hand of power and coming in the clouds of heaven So first of all, I said, yep, you said it I am the Christ and by the way I'm gonna be sitting on the right hand of God and I'm coming back And I'm coming back in the clouds of heaven. So What Bible are people reading to think this They're not reading the Bible. They never even opened it before People that say stupid things like that Verse 65 Then the high priest now, did they understand what Jesus said? Did they understand that Jesus was saying that I'm the Christ then the high priest rent his clothes That's what people did when they were upset. They tear their clothes. Remember the Kings would tear their clothes Remember David tore his clothes when he found out his son was killed the Bible in the Bible says in the high priest rent his Clothes saying he has spoken blasphemy What further need we have witnesses? Behold now you have heard this blasphemy what think he they answered and said he is guilty of death Then they spit in his face. They buffeted him and others smote him with the palms of their hands They're hitting him and they're slapping him saying prophesy unto us thou Christ Who is he that smote thee? Now Peter sat in the palace and a damsel came to him saying thou also was with Jesus of Galilee But he denied before them all saying I know not what thou sayest And when he was gone out into the porch another maid saw him and said unto him that were that were there This fellow was also with Jesus of Nazareth. And again, he denied with an oath. I do not know the man He said, you know, I swear by whatever he gave some oath And after a while it came unto him they that stood by and said to Peter surely thou art thou also art one of them For thy speech be ray of thee then began he to curse and swear Saying I know not the man and immediately the cock crew so here two gals come up to him basically Two ladies, you know a maid a damsel I mean that's not some intimidating guy sticking a sword in your face and he denies Christ and then he not only denies Christ the third time but he tries to be profane and You know convince them that he's not with this godly person or not with this, you know religious Spiritual leader or whatever, you know They thought these ladies thought he was in verse 75 and Peter remembered the word of Jesus Which said unto him before the cock crow thou shalt deny me thrice and he went out and he wept bitterly Now look, I mean if you are all sitting here and you're like, oh Peter, you know, what an epic failure This was, you know, and yeah, I mean he failed here, but look Here's the bottom line and this is something that should make that should should check us here, you know talk is cheap Until you've been tested In your life. I mean, I don't care what the situation is, but talk is cheap until you've been tested. I've had many People that I've seen they get in a stressful situation and they tuck tail and run You'll meet people in your life that you'll see tested and some people literally run and some people Stay and face the music and look Peter had a bad day here, but think about this I mean his faith was challenged here or his you know His faith to Jesus his loyalty to Jesus was challenged here and you know He didn't pass the test in this case We know that he passed the test later in his life and with the rest of his life But look this is I mean, this is a neat little thought experiment that you should all go through in your life You should think about I know we live in America and it's getting a little easier to imagine Persecution in America, but we still live in America We're still sitting here in church Nobody's busting through the door and trying to take us off to jail or try to kill us for our faith or anything like this But it's an interesting thought experiment that you should put yourself through from time to time to say what would I do? If my faith was challenged What would I do if somebody in my life? challenged my faith if my faith was if my my loyalty and faith in Jesus Christ was going to be Tested and it was gonna cost me something if I didn't deny it What would I do? Look, I mean nobody lost their salvation here But I mean this was a an act of you know of lack of faith I Mean, what would it what would you do? Think about it? What would you do if your boss said you you know what if you go to church? You're not you can't work here anymore. This happens all the time, by the way If you go to church, you can't work this job anymore. Would you say okay, you know, that's good enough for me That's good enough for me. I'm just not gonna go to church anymore. Would you deny Christ over that? If it wasn't even your life, but it was money Would you deny Christ over that? How about if it cost you a family member? Somebody that said you know what because Jesus said look I came to divide Like the father will be against the son the mother against the daughter the whole thing and it's real seen it hundred times It's real what would you do if People in your life, maybe even the closest people in your own family said, you know what we're not okay with that What would you do? Would you deny Christ for that? Would you deny Christ for money? Would you deny Christ for relationships? What would you do if it came to your life? I Mean Peter was tested with the hardest test right away Cut the guy a little bit of slack. He was tested with the threat of his life right away At the beginning of his ministry, what would you do if somebody said you know what if you Continue to read and study and and come to church and follow the Lord Jesus Christ. We are going to kill you What would you do? It's a thought experiment You know as of right now in this country, it's not anything that's going to come true today But it's a thought experiment that you should put yourself through Now the application that I really want to make tonight is this Turn to Colossians chapter 2 in verse number 9 Turn to Colossians chapter 2 and look at verse number 9 I want to focus in we talk a lot about the deity of Christ I want to focus in on the humanity of Christ tonight and I want to show you why the Bible gives us So much about the humanity of Christ and how important the humanity of Christ actually is Look at Ephesians 2 or I'm sorry Colossians 2 in verse number 9 The bodies that the Bible says for in him dwelleth all the fullness of the Godhead Bodily, so it says that he is fully God in a body In a body. Okay. Now look there's tons of scripture on this We're not going to be able to go through it all but the bottom line is there's two real big Heresies that happened since Christ and they came out almost immediately if you look through history They came out almost immediately after like within a hundred years of Christ, you know coming These two heresies popped up and one of them was denying the deity of Christ But the other was denying the humanity of Christ that that Christ was really human that he was a real person Oh, he was just God. He was this super, you know He was just God, but he wasn't really a man But look back at verse number 38 of Matthew chapter 26. I Just want to show you that you know it that is not the case and why the Bible talks so much about it Look at verse 38 The Bible says then he saith unto them my soul is exceedingly sorrowful even unto death Terry ye here and watch with me Jesus Experienced the same thing that any man would experience that knew what he was about to go through in this situation Just the stress over the idea of this coming suffering, you know, we focus a lot on the deity of Christ But tonight I want to focus on the full 100% humanity of Jesus Christ look turn to Luke chapter 2 Jesus had a Jesus had a normal human birth He had a normal human birth You know other than the fact that it was, you know, he was conceived by the Holy Spirit He had a normal physical birth The Bible says in Luke 2 21 and when eight days were accomplished for the circumcising of the child His name was called Jesus who was so named at the angel before he was conceived in the womb and when the days of her Purification according to the law of Moses were accomplished They brought him into Jerusalem to present him to the Lord the genealogy of Jesus Christ is so Important why because it shows that Jesus was a physical descendant of David look at Luke chapter 3 Now don't you don't have to go turn there turn to 2nd Samuel chapter 7 Look Luke chapter 3 talks about the actual genealogy So we looked at the the genealogy in Matthew 1 that goes from Jesus all the way back to David But Luke chapter 3 actually gives the genealogy of Jesus Christ all the way back to Adam The first Adam we're not going to get into the first and second Adam, but look it's important. It was fulfillment of prophecy It's important that he was the physical Descendant of David that he was that obviously were all the physical descendant of Adam But look the genealogy goes all the way back to Adam in Luke chapter 3 look at 2nd Samuel chapter 7 Look at verse number 12 The Bible says and when thy days be fulfilled and thou shalt sleep with thy fathers I will set up thy seed after thee which shall proceed out of thy bowels and will establish his kingdom He shall build and house for my name and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever This is God talking to David saying your son is gonna build the temple and then I will rise a seed out of your son And I will establish that kingdom forever so God gave a promise first of all that Jesus would be a physical descendant of David and that he would take that Kingdom of David into eternity. It's fulfilling God's promise turn to Luke chapter 19 Jesus here's another point Jesus referred to himself constantly as the Son of man as the Son of man Look at Luke chapter 19 in verse number 10 I could read you verse after verse after verse of Jesus referring to himself as the Son of man Because God became a man in the person of Jesus Christ was he the Son of God. Yes He was was he the Son of man. Yes. He was a Perfect descendant of David the Bible says in Luke 19 10 or look at verse number 9 and Jesus saith unto him This day is salvation come to this house for as for so much as he also is a son of Abraham for the Son of Man is come to seek and to save that which is lost know what turn to Matthew chapter 4 I'm gonna read you several examples now of Jesus, you know experiencing the human experience Jesus experienced everything that you experience and the Bible talks about it all the time Look at Matthew chapter 4 just a few verse chapters back. Look at verse number 2 The Bible says and when he had fasted 40 days and 40 nights. He was afterward and hungry. He was hungry He fasted for 40 days and he was hungry I'll read for you John 19 you turn to John chapter 4 John 1928 says after this Jesus knowing that all things were now accomplished that the scripture might be fulfilled said I Thirst he got thirsty Look at John 4 6 now Jacob's well was there Jesus therefore being wearied with his journey Sat thus on the well, and it was about the sixth hour. Look he got tired He went on a long journey kind of like when you guys go on a hike you get tired Some of you get more tired than others. I'm not making eye contact right now John Chapter 11 verse 35 the shortest verse in the Bible when Lazarus dies Jesus wept We look Jesus felt compassion in Matthew chapter 9. It says that he had compassion on the multitude Jesus felt human emotions and Finally turn to Hebrews chapter 4 Turn to Hebrews chapter 4 He was 4 verse 15 Hebrews 4 verse 15 so how do you know that he you know felt everything, you know He was tempted as well all the temptations that you've had in your life as a human being Jesus felt them as well, but here's the difference Look at verse 15 of Hebrews 4 for we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities So the Bible here is saying is that Jesus this high priest is like look It's not that he was just some super, you know came down here in some Supernatural way where he didn't get down into our infirmities Where he didn't get down into the situation that we're in today. We're I mean we have this flesh Around us and we're gonna have this until we die Physically, but look it says we not have we do not have a high priest Which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities, but was in all points tempted like as we are yet without sin So Jesus felt all the temptations that you feel But he didn't give in to them He had the same flesh. He had the same feelings. He had the same hunger. He had the same thirst He had the same compassion. Hopefully you have compassion but yet without sin He experienced all these physical feelings these emotions, but he did not succumb to them like we do every single day That's the difference So so why why is this so important? well mainly because any good leader will not Have others endure something that they are not willing to go through. Did you know that I? Mean think about Moses, I mean Moses was there judging the people leading the people doing all the things Look Moses ended up delegating the judging of the people to other to others, but he first did it He first did it himself. God expects us to live a certain way But he also did it and He did it successfully. I Mean think about this God God will send people that do not believe on his son. He will send them to hell He will send them to hell but still This is something that he also endured Turn to Acts chapter 2 Look, it makes perfect sense If he was to be if he was to bodily endure everything that we endure but in a perfect way Why would he not do the same thing spiritually that he is going to you know, have other people endure Look if you do not believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you die physically you are going to spend yours Your soul is going to spend in eternity in hell But but God went there went there too. He knows what that's like. Look at Acts chapter 2 and verse 30. I Mean it makes perfect sense when you think about it from the perspective of the nature of who God is It makes perfect sense Acts 2 30 therefore being a prophet and knowing that God had sworn an oath to him That the fruit of his loins according to the flesh He would raise up Christ to sit on his throne. So first of all, he was the fruit of David's loin according to the flesh That's more evidence He's seeing this before spake of the resurrection of Christ that his soul was not left in hell. Neither did his flesh see Corruption so we see the soul in hell and the flesh in the tomb and both were not left there The flesh did not see corruption and Jesus's soul was not left in hell. It came out I mean, that's the difference that Jesus's soul came out of hell He defeated death So what I mean a side note is you would be wise if you have any kind of leadership position in your life Which you all do it would be wise for you to lead this way It would be wise for you to lead in a way where you show people that you are not sending them to do things That you're unwilling to do yourself You should show people that you're willing to do the lowest things What Jesus went to the lowest point on earth? He went I mean not I'm not talking about hell he went to the lowest physical experience you can have on earth the lowest the worst The most painful something you and I will never experience he took the physical life that he had and he took it all the way to the lowest point and I mean then his soul went to hell Something you'll never experience if you're saved tonight so many people think that we have this God, you know, we just have this God of unreasonable expectations You come to church and we preach on sin and and we just you know we tell you you should do this and you should wear this and you should you should act this way and you should get this Out of your life and you're like man. This God is just unreasonable. We don't have this God you you have Misunderstood God in general first of all, there are no expectations Except to believe on the Lord Jesus Christ to have eternal life That's the only expectation of you I mean that what that's a pretty good deal. I Don't know what your problem is if you think otherwise Because I mean just believe on my son Hey, you don't have to believe on my son and then you know do all this thing for ten years No, just believe on my son, please He drank this cup He went through this he lived this perfect life and died this perfect death Did you please just believe in my son and I'll give you everlasting life. That's a pretty good deal But All the other expectations since they're not requirements for Think about it this way all the other expectations except, you know, because they're not requirements for everlasting life They could be looked at as goals They could be looked at as goals and here's what here's the thing every single one of these goals these commandments these rules on an individual basis is achievable I Mean it's achievable in your life. Look you can quit drinking. I Mean you can quit smoking weed or whatever it is you're doing You can do these things you can control your tongue. I Mean you can have a good marriage. I Mean, that's a blessing I Mean you could follow all these things in the Bible when it talks to how you should treat your wife and how you should treat Your husband and you know what? I mean, it's not even like just follow all these rules It's like follow these rules and I'll bless you with a great marriage. I Mean what is your problem? I Mean, this is a good deal. I mean you can you can I mean, did you know you can raise children? That can grow to love and serve the Lord even in this wicked world Do you I mean look do you know that that's possible? Look it is I'm telling you and we're gonna talk about it Sunday morning again. It's not easy to do It's not easy to do You can't just come to this church and be like, oh, I'm in this church, right? There's no there's no danger anymore wrong That's why you're gonna keep hearing sermons again and again and again on raising children because look I don't want anybody to lose their kids Because it's bad when you lose your kids in this world in this world. It will chew your kids up and spit them out But Did you know that if you follow all these these legalistic rules these unreasonable rules in the Bible and you had and you quit thinking about it that way and you just start listening to what God has for you in your life and For your family and for your marriage, it's possible It's possible to circumvent that garbage out there It can be done But there's a lot of risk If you don't if you don't follow These expectations these goals. I mean look you can what have you been talking about Sunday nights? You can look you can defeat whatever it is that is holding you back in your Christian life It's possible. I Mean the Bible says that if you're saved you're not a slave to anything You're not a slave to these sins to these loss to this. It doesn't matter where you've been It doesn't matter where you've been. It doesn't matter what you've done. It doesn't matter any of that. You're not a slave to that stuff You can put your hand to the pile and you can move forward and he'll still give you those promises right there You can I mean you could start the Christian life at any time Or you can waste your whole life. You could be saved and waste your whole life. We meet these people every week Every single week, but here's the thing. Not only does the Bible tell us that we're not a slave to these things In Romans 6 and many other places in the Bible, but here's the thing we have a God that showed us That it can be done You want to lead successfully you want to lead successfully in your family first show the way I Mean look here's the thing you'll get liberal Christian churches out there. They've got the gospel wrong There they got everything wrong and they teach that Jesus was just and is just an example for us Look it's heresy But look Jesus came to save us. He came to save us and to believe on him is everlasting life But he also did it He also was that example that these things can be endured they can be defeated look I'm not talking about sinless perfection But the Bible says that you can overcome whatever it is that's holding you back in your life So, I mean look we have a God that's not only done it for us But I mean he showed us he's not only done it for us He not only died for us, but he showed us how to win in this life He showed that he showed us I mean you say win what's that mean? He showed us what victory is That's why that's why the humanity of Christ is a big deal Because he wasn't this just this superhuman, you know God that came down here He felt everything that you feel he went through everything that you go through But he did it in a perfect way and that's why he could be that sacrifice for us. And I mean, I thank God That he did it in a perfect way When we talk about that all the time out soul winning that's why the humanity of Christ is Just as big of a deal as the deity of Christ 100% God 100% man, let's bow our heads and have a word of prayer
