Amen! Well let's take our bulletin and take some announcements real quickly. If you do not have a bulletin, just raise your hand and one of our ushers can get one for you. If you need a bulletin just put your hand up and we will get one for you. The verse this week's Psalm 122.1 I was glad when they said unto me Let us go into the house of the Lord. And that's a good verse there. your bulletin you'll see our service time Sunday morning service 10 30 a.m. and we are glad that you're with us on Sunday morning on the Lord's day for church of course it's always a good thing to be in the house of God we do invite you back tonight at 6 p.m for the evening service the evening service is different than the morning service different songs that are sung different sermon that's preached just one more opportunity to be in God's house with God's people under the preaching of the word of God and of course we have our Wednesday evening bible study at 7 p.m and we'd love for you to join us for the midweek service if you look at our soul winning times our main soul winning time is on Saturday mornings at 10 a.m and we'd love for you to join us of course for our soul winning rally and then we have additional soul winning times on Thursdays and Sundays at 2 p.m so if you'd like to go so there'll be an opportunity for you to do that this afternoon if you look across the page there to the announcements and upcoming events of course this week we just want you to be aware that we have our cleaning crew appreciation dinner and training that's this Friday August 2nd at 6 p.m and this is open to everyone who is part of our current cleaning crew which we've got a lot of people that volunteer in our cleaning crew and we appreciate your help with that and so if you're part of the cleaning crew don't forget about this we have a special dinner for you we want to appreciate you and then we also have just some additional training special trainings as we moved into the new building just some things that we want you to be aware of and things to know and if you are interested in helping with the cleaning crew we can always use help with this ministry and I think everyone should serve the Lord in some capacity you should find somewhere to serve in your local church and if you are currently not serving this would be a good place for you to jump in and you're welcome to come to the dinner and training as well if you'd like to join the cleaning crew and we'll get you set up on that night if you are planning to attend please let us know on your communication card you can sign up there and then you'll notice there's also a baby shower for miss rezell lee wilson on saturday august 10th at 3 p.m and miss rezell is having a boy she's registered on amazon and it is a potluck so if you can please bring a dish to share and if you'd like to sign up make sure you do that on your communication card to let us know and then also today begins choir and orchestra practice at 5 p.m for family and friend day and family and friend day of course is in september and we're celebrating our church's 14-year anniversary and the choir and the orchestra will have special music for that so if you're part of the choir make sure you're here at 5 p.m here in the auditorium or in the orchestra i think they may in the fellowship hall and if you'd like to join the choir then you can do so at this time it is open to ages 13 years old and up and they'll have an informational meeting and all of that so make sure you're here today at 5 p.m for that there's other things there for you to look at please don't forget to turn your cell phones off or place them on silent during the service so they're not a distraction to anybody if you look at the back of the bulletin birthdays and anniversaries for the month of july today is my brother-in-law's birthday brother jose cruz on july 28th and also brother rj marin both have an anniversary today excuse me and a birthday today on july 28th so happy birthday to both of them and then also mike ogarovich has a birthday on july 30th and kesia stelzer has a birthday on july 31st and jordan taylor has a birthday on august 1st and ashra taylor has a birthday birthday on august 3rd and the praise report money matters all of those things are there for you to look at do have just a couple of additional announcements first of all we want to announce that if you'd like to help bring a meal for miss cricket i think i announced on wednesday that she fell last week and broke her hip and she was in the hospital she's back home now but we'd like to help her with some meals of course if you'd like to sign up to bring miss cricket meals just see my wife after the service she has a sign-up sheet and she can get you situated and signed up of course for that and you should have one of these rooted and grounded cards i think in your bulletin and we're going to continue our rooted and grounded series and this is a series to help people go further faster in their christian faith and we're starting we're just going to cover the most fundamental truths we're starting with some things regarding salvation we're going to move on to some other things next week but this morning i'm preaching on the subject of eternal security actually last sunday was miss kimmy gessler's birthday and on church members who've been here for 10 years when their birthday falls on a sunday i let them pick if they'd like any sermon that they'd like me to preach she actually picked this sermon that i'm preaching this morning but i asked her if i could preach it this week because it was on the subject of eternal security and i need to preach the subject on the subject of eternal security anyway for our rooted and grounded series so i'm preaching uh this sermon of course i always tell people you know the sermons are different even though i'm i'm i take the outline i revamp it i redo it so it's not like i just print it and preach it but i think that sermon i preached at a conference somewhere or um i i know i preached it one time years ago i'm not sure when was the first time i should have asked miss kimmy but um i preached the one time at our church when i was just really pissed off about the subjects of eternal security because there's somebody who's trying to bring in this garbage about losing your salvation um at our church and then and then one time there's a soul winning conference and i was asked to preach on the subject of eternal security so i preached that sermon but they're they're different every time so anyway we're going to look at the subject of eternal security i think one of the most important subjects when it comes to salvation so we're glad that you're with us of course for that and uh let's see if there's anything else i don't think there's any other announcements there we do want to just let the guests know if you're a first-time guest here at verity baptist church we're so glad that you are with us and we have a gift i'd like to give you as you walk out of the church building this morning as you go out our main foyer you'll see a little table set up on that table you'll see these little uh gift bags please grab one on your way out as a gift from us to you for being our guest today there are several resources in this bag that we'd like you to have the one i like to highlight is this documentary that our church made it's called being baptist it's very well made very interesting we think you'll like it and we want to give this to you as a gift so please make sure you don't leave here without grabbing one of these gift bags on your way out and if you are a guest we'd ask that you please take a moment to fill out the communication card which is inserted in your bulletin and if you need a pen just raise your hand and one of our ushers can bring you by a verity baptist church pen and you're welcome of course to keep the pen as a gift from us as well and we'd love to have a record of your attendance and we would like to send you a little gift but we need your info to do that so please take a moment to fill the card out and when we're done with the announcements here in a minute we're going to sing a song when we're done singing we're going to receive the offering and as the offering goes by you can drop this card in the offering plate or you can hand it to me after the service i'll be standing at the main door greeting people on the way out and i think that's it for all of the announcements so we're going to go ahead and sing the chorus of the week which is the insert in the bulletin and we're going to sing he is mine as we prepare to receive the offering this morning long before the fall of man and let's go ahead and sing it out on the first long before the fall of man god designed a master plan he exchanged the sinner for the sinless one jesus left his throne on high came to earth to bleed and die he said father not my will but mine be done he is mine he is mine i am beyond all measure he is mine is on the second through god's mercy and his grace he's prepared for us words cannot describe the matchless beauty there he will praise the perfect lamb king of kings the great i am he has made the joys of heaven hours to sing it out he is mine he is mine beyond all measure he is mine me amen all right before we have the guys come up i do want to just remind you that we are of course a family integrated church children and infants are always welcome in the service we do not separate children from their parents for any reason however we do have mother-baby rooms and daddy rooms available for your convenience all the rooms are comfortable seating they've got monitors or windows set up so you can watch the service and listen to it so if you have a child that's been distracting during the service or if you need some privacy i would encourage you to please use those usher will bring you one first john chapter three we will read the entire chapter as is our custom first john chapter three just keep your hands up and i'll bring you a bible first john chapter three the bible reads behold what manner of love the father hath bestowed upon us that we should be called the sons of god therefore the world knows us not because it knew him not beloved now are we the sons of god and it doth not yet appear what we shall be but we know that when he shall appear we shall be like him for we shall see him as he is for we shall see him as he is and every man that hath in hope in him purify himself even as he is pure whosoever committed sin transgresseth also the law for sin is the transgression of the law and you know that he was manifested to take away our sins and in him is no sin whosoever abideth in him sineth not whosoever sinneth hath not seen him neither known him little children let no man deceive you he that doeth righteousness is righteous even as he is righteous he that commits sin is of the devil the devil sinneth from the beginning for this purpose the son of god was manifested that he might destroy the works of the devil whosoever is born of god doth not commit sin for his seed remaineth in him and he cannot sin because he is born of god in this the children of god are manifest and the children of the devil whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of god neither he that loveth not his brother for this is the message that he heard from the beginning that we should love one another not as cain who was of that wicked one and slew his brother and wherefore slew him because his own works were evil and his brother's righteous marvel not my brethren if the world hate you we know that we have passed from death unto life because we love the brethren he that loveth not his brother abideth in death whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer and you know that no murderer hath eternal life abiding in him hereby perceive we love of god because he laid down his life for us and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren but whoso hath this world's good and seeth his brother have need and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him how dwelleth the love of god in him my little children let us not love in word neither in tongue but in deed and in truth and hereby we know that we are of the truth and shall assure our hearts before him for if our heart condemn us god is greater than our heart and knoweth all things beloved if our heart condemn us not then have we confidence toward god and whatsoever we ask we receive of him because we keep his commandments and do those things that are pleasing in his sight and this is his commandment that we should believe on the name of his son jesus christ and love one another as he gave us commandment and he that keepeth his commandments dwelleth in him and he in him and here by we know that he abideth in us by the spirit which he hath given us let's pray lord god almighty thank you for this day and for this opportunity to come together please bless pastor and the message please let it bring glory and honor to you in the name of jesus christ i pray amen amen all right we're there in first john chapter number three and today we are dealing with the subject of eternal security and eternal security is a doctrine that teaches that you cannot lose your salvation and this is sometimes referred to as one is saved always saved and in fact people will say that phrase one saved always saved in a a mocking term they'll say oh you believe in one saved always saved but i do believe in one saved always saved and the bible is clear that the bible teaches on the subject of eternal security and what i'd like to do this morning is i'd like to give you several arguments from the bible to prove the doctrine of eternal security because when you look at the bible you realize that eternal security or one saved always saved is the only thing that makes sense it's the only reasonable logical belief that you can have if you're going to believe the bible and believe what the bible says about salvation and people will often scoff at this and they'll say oh that's not something the bible teaches but the bible teaches us all throughout scripture and in fact it's the only way to be able to really look at the bible and make sense of a lot of things that are taught in the bible so i'd like to give you these statements and if you're taking notes and i always encourage you to take notes on the back of course a week of course there's a place for you to write down some things i want to give you these seven statements or seven reasons seven arguments and these are not oftentimes when i give you arguments they're succinct and they're alliterated and that's not the case this morning i'll try to give these to you as seven statements but they're really just seven arguments for the belief of one saved always saved and to prove that the bible teaches one saved always saved now when it comes to eternal security and the people who do not believe in eternal security people often think that if you perform some sin or if you perform some major sin then you can lose your salvation you're there in first john chapter three i'd like you to look down at verse number four i want you to notice that in first john three four we find a biblical definition for sin the bible says here in first john three four whosoever committed sin transgresseth also the law for sin is the transgression of the law and the bible here defines sin for us and it tells us that sin is the transgression of the law the word transgressed or transgression means to go beyond or to cross the boundary of it means to break the law of god so the bible tells us here that sin is when we transgress or when we break the law of god sin is defined as the breaking of god's law and it is therefore directly connected to the keeping or the breaking of god's command i'd like you to keep your place there in first john chapter three if you would we're going to come back to first john throughout the sermon but go with me to the book of galatians towards the beginning of the new testament you've got matthew mark luke john acts romans first second corinthians galatians acts romans first second corinthians galatians while you turn there let me just read to you from romans chapter three and verse 10 because in romans 3 10 we see again this connection between god's law and sin the breaking of god's law and sin in romans 3 10 the bible says therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in a sight for by the law is the knowledge of sin so we see how sin is defined as the breaking of god's law and there is this connection there is this uh direct connection between the keeping or the breaking of god's commandments and law uh because and sin excuse me because the bible says here that sin is a transgression of the law the bible says by the law of knowledge is sin now in galatians 5 and verse 2 i'd like you to notice what the bible says here galatians chapter 5 and verse 2 and here the apostle paul is writing to the church in galatia and these individuals are under attack they've got people that are creeping into their church that are coming into their church and trying to bring damnable heresy trying to add works to salvation and in galatians 5 and verse 2 we see these words behold i paul say unto you that if you be circumcised christ shall profit you nothing now the reason that paul says to the galatians if you be circumcised is because of the fact that there are people at this time when he's speaking to the galatians there are individuals that are coming into the church of galatia and they are teaching that you have to be circumcised in order to be saved and in order to be saved in order to be a christian it's not enough to just believe on the lord jesus christ but you also have to be circumcised and of course they're trying to bring them under the law of moses i'm telling them you have to keep uh the part of circumcision in order to be saved and paul is dealing with that and arguing that he says behold i paul say unto you that if you be circumcised christ shall profit you nothing and what he's saying is this if you think that keeping any part of the law is going to save you then christ shall profit you nothing because when it comes to salvation it's either all jesus or nothing it's not half jesus and half you half of what he did and half of what you do it's either jesus or it's you and he says if you be circumcised christ shall profit you nothing now what i want you to understand is this that he's using the example of circumcision because that's what they happen to be believing at that time but really we could interchange that phrase if you be circumcised with anything else that people today like to add to salvation or like to say that you must do in order to be saved there are people out there who say you have to be baptized to be saved it's not just enough to believe on jesus you also need to be baptized well we could say that if you be baptized christ shall profit you nothing and again the idea is not that there's anything wrong with baptism it's good to get baptized the bible teaches the subject of baptism but if you're getting baptized and thinking that that's what's going to save you then christ shall profit you nothing if you think that you need to repent of your sins we talked about that in the previous lesson in order to be saved then christ shall profit you nothing if you think that going to church is going to somehow earn you a way into salvation then christ shall profit you nothing if you be circumcised christ shall profit you nothing is what the apostle paul is saying here look at verse 3 he says for i testify again to every man that is circumcised again he's speaking to people that are trusting in circumcision for salvation he's talking to the guy that got circumcised as part of his salvation and he says for i testify again to every man that is circumcised look at these words that he is a debtor to do the whole law and here's the big point that i want you to get and what i want you to understand is that the apostle paul is teaching here that if you decide that salvation is earned or kept by keeping any part of the law then you have to understand that the law comes as a complete unit it comes all together and the moment that you decide that you have to keep any part of the law in order to be saved then you become a debtor to keep the whole law once you commit to keeping any part you have to commit to keep all of it now remember what is sin sin is the transgression of the law when we break god's law we sin and if you think that keeping god's law or any part of god's law is going to save you then you are a debtor to do the whole law you have to commit to keeping the whole law look at verse 4 galatians 5 and verse 4 he says again christ is become of no effect unto you whosoever of you are justified by the law ye are fallen from grace he says look if you think you're going to be justified by the law then you don't have grace because grace is unmerited favor and keeping the law is you attempting to have merited favor he says christ is become of no effect unto you because you're a debtor to do the whole law you say well what does this have to do with eternal security and here's what i want you to understand and here's the first statement because people often think they'll say well uh of course salvation is by grace through faith and it's jesus christ but if you perform some major sin i mean just this week i was out soul in england brother shaw and somebody said to us at the door well you you just think that you could perform some major sin and and still be on your way to heaven and this is the idea that people think people think well uh some sin a major sin some big sin could cause you to lose your salvation paul said if you keep the law you're a debtor to do the whole law christ has become of no effect unto you whosoever you are justified by the law go with me if you would just real quickly james chapter two if you kept your place in first john continue to keep your place there in first john but if you go backwards from there you'll find the book of james first john then you'll have second peter first peter then james james chapter two here's a statement if any sin can cause you to lose your salvation then every sin can cause you to lose your salvation this is what the bible teaches because here's the problem with people who think you can lose your salvation they don't think every sin can cause you to lose salvation they just think some big major sin can cause you to lose your salvation they don't think that well if you just tell a little lie of course that's what's going to send you to hell they just think if you kill somebody if you do some major heinous thing but here's what you need to understand if any sin can cause you to lose your salvation then we need to understand that every sin can cause you to lose your salvation are there in james 2 look at verse 10 james chapter 2 in verse 10 notice what the bible says the bible says here for whosoever this is an illustration being given by james he says for whosoever shall keep the whole law he says if there was an individual out there who was able to keep the whole law he says for whosoever shall keep the whole law and yet offend and one point he is guilty of all and here's the truth about sin and i don't have time to delve into this or to give you verses on this you can study this out on your own but the truth about sin is this that all sin is not equal but all sin will send you to hell and any sin will send you to hell and people who think that you can lose your salvation based off any sin based off some major sin then they have to realize that every sin can cause you to lose your salvation and if you believe that then no one is going to ever be saved because here's the truth you sin every day i sin every day the bible says that we're all sinners and look people often think of like these big major sins of sin but you know the bible says that when you know that it's good to do something and you don't do it that's a sin for he that knows to do good and do that not to him it is sin so there's sins of commission when we go out and we commit sin but there's sins of omission when you know you should do something and you don't do it and here's the truth if you believe that you can lose your salvation based off any sin then you have to understand that you're a debtor to do the whole law that you have to keep every commandment and again some people think that a major sin will cause them to lose their salvation but the truth is this if any sin if a sin can cause you to lose your salvation then any sin can cause you to lose your salvation no matter how big or small and therefore no one could ever be saved because you and i sin every day whosoever shall keep the whole law and yet offend one point he is guilty of all go to hebrews if you would hebrews chapter 12 you're there in james if you just go backwards you go into the book of hebrews hebrews chapter number 12 and what's funny to me about people who think you can lose your salvation is that they always come up with this list of sins that they think will cause you to lose your salvation and and they'll say you know well if you commit murder that'll cause you to lose your salvation if you commit adultery that'll cause you to lose your salvation if you do this if you do that that'll cause you to lose your salvation but what's always interesting to me is that whatever sins they choose to tell you that can cause you to lose your salvation it's always the sins that they're not doing so you know it's like well if you commit murder and it's like well yeah how many people have actually committed murder honestly and then they'll just and and the more righteous they are the harder their list gets but the more unrighteous they are the easier their list is look i i think that drinking alcohol is a sin and people will say well you know what i mean not not that one not that one and they're always just making this list fit whatever their life is and i mean for some people it's like you know you got to be adolf hitler that's how bad you have to be and look the truth is this if you think that anything can cause you to lose your salvation then everything can cause you to lose your salvation and that doesn't make any sense because if you think that keeping any aspect of the law is required to be saved if you think that keeping any aspect of the law then you have to understand that you must keep every aspect of the law and you are a debtor to do the whole law so i've got seven statements for you number one if any sin can cause you to lose your salvation then every sin can cause you to lose your salvation that doesn't make any sense and that's not what salvation is because you sin every day and by the way we'll talk about it later jesus forgave you all your sins if you're saved let me give you another statement you're there in hebrews chapter 12 let me just say this i'll just read this for you in john 1 12 the bible says this but as many as received him to them gave you power to become the sons of god even to them that believe on his name the day that you got saved you became a child of god you were given the power to become we were given the power to become the sons of god even to them that believe on his name god became your heavenly father and here's the second statement when it comes to the arguments for one saved always saved statement number one is if anything can cause you to lose your salvation then everything can cause you to lose your salvation but your statement number two a good father disciplines his children a good father does not abandon his children the bible tells us that god is our heavenly father and god is a good father as a good father our heavenly father disciplines his children are you there in hebrews 12 look at verse 5 notice what the bible says here in hebrews 12 and verse 5 and ye have forgotten the exhortation which speaketh unto you as unto children my son despise not thou the chastening of the lord nor faint when thou art rebuked of him say why should i not despise the chastening of the lord why should i not faint when i am rebuked of him here's why verse 6 for whom the lord loveth he chasteneth and scourges every son whom he receiveth you know the bible teaches that good parents loving parents discipline their children they chasten their children why because they don't want their children to go down the road of rebellion they don't want their children to go down a road that is going to cause them to ruin their lives and here the bible says for whom the lord loveth he chasteneth and scourges every son whom he receiveth so if you're saved and god is your heavenly father because god is a good father god disciplines his children notice verse 7 hebrews 12 and verse 7 if ye endure chastening god dealeth with you as with sons for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not so here the bible tells us look if you if you've ever received chastening from the lord if you've ever received discipline from the lord if you've ever gone to something where it's just real obvious this is the chastisement of god upon my life then here's here's a good news in regards to that is this that if you endure chastening god dealeth with you as with sons that should give you assurance of your salvation when god has given you a spiritual spanking he only spanks his children if you endure chastening god deals with you as with sons for what son is he whom the father chastens not verse 8 but if ye be without chastisement where of all our partakers then are ye bastards and not sons notice what the bible says there he says if ye be without chastisement where of all our partakers that phrase where of all our partakers means this everyone who's saved everyone who's a child of god partakes in the discipline of god god disciplines all his children and all his children get disciplined you say why do all his children get disciplined well we talked about it in point number one because you sin every day because i sin every day and because sometimes god our heavenly father has to get our attention and correct us but if you be without chastisement look the bible is saying here if you say that you're a believer and you're saved and you can just live like the devil and live like the world and god never chastises you god never disciplines you god never uh corrects you if you be without chastisement where of all our partakers then are ye bastards you know what that means that means you don't have a father then are ye bastards and not sons don't get offended at me i'm just reading the word of god to you now let me just say this just because we believe in eternal security does not mean that we believe that you can live however you want because this is an attack that people often make they'll say well if you believe that in eternal security then you're telling people they can uh live however they want and there's no consequences for sin and they can do whatever they want well hold on a second the bible says that you reap what you sow and the bible says that god is a good heavenly father and god disciplines his children so just because we believe in eternal security does not mean that we believe that you can live however you want do whatever you want because god will cause you to suffer consequences god does chastise and he does discipline his children as a good heavenly father god disciplines his children i mean that's clear from hebrews 12 is it not but then flip over to hebrews chapter 13 let's just be clear about this as well as a good heavenly father god disciplines his children that's true but as a good heavenly father god does not abandon his children you know that a good father doesn't abandon his children hebrews 13 and verse 5 notice what the bible says here hebrews 13 5 let your conversation be without covetousness and be content with such things as you have for he has said notice what the bible says here for he had said i will never leave thee nor forsake thee by the way that little phrase there i would never leave thee nor forsake thee that's eternal security that's once saved you're always saved that means that once you're with god and god's with you he's never going to leave you and he's never going to forsake you but you know the people who teach that you can lose your salvation it makes no sense because here's what they teach they say oh the moment you got saved god became your heavenly father but the moment you do something he doesn't like he's going to kick you out of the family he's going to throw you out of the family he's going to abandon you so are you telling me that god is a deadbeat dad are you trying to tell me that because let's just be honest men who have children and don't raise them are dirtbags right they're deadbeats no no my heavenly father is a better father than that he doesn't abandon his children but you know what he does do he does discipline his children that's what a good father does too and the only way that these verses the only way that this concept jesus taught us as believers when we pray he said pray our father which are in heaven we have been told and we have been commanded to come to our to god as our heavenly father that he is our father we've been given the power to become the sons of god and the only way that salvation makes sense with regards to god being my heavenly father is that he would never leave us or forsake us oh wait that's what the bible says i will never leave you nor forsake thee look i'm just giving you arguments and if you want to argue and say no no i think you can lose your salvation then you've got to answer these arguments because if you think that a sin can cause you to lose your salvation then every sin can cause you to lose your salvation and you're going to have to argue that and if you think that our heavenly father abandons us when we cross a line i mean think about that the lord has blessed my wife and i with six children do my six children always do the things that please us and make us happy no but what are we just going to abandon them you didn't clean your room that's it you're out of the family i've already told you twice to take that try i don't care that you're 11 years old get out of here would you ever do that to your children you say well i'd never do it to my children if ye being evil know how to give good gifts unto your children how much more shall your heavenly father look do you know that god is a better father than you are amen god is a better better father than i am so if a good father disciplines his children and a good father does not abandon his children and we know that god the heavenly father will never abandon us and again people say well you're giving people a license to sin well people do pretty well sinning undocumented and unlicensed i don't feel like we ever need to give people permission to sin they do a pretty good job of doing it without permission but look no matter what my children do they will always be my children that is a relationship that will be true throughout all of eternity in fact one day when i go to heaven my wife and i will no longer be married but one day when we go to heaven our children will still be our children now their actions and the way they behave and the things they do will have an effect on our relationship if they are obedient and they are respectful and they are living in a way that pleases us then we're going to bless them and we're going to favor them and we're going to have a good relationship if they are rebellious then we're going to have to discipline them and chasing them and chastise them but they're never going to stop being my children and when god became your heavenly father you're never going to stop being his child a good father disciplines his children a good father does not abandon his children go with me to the book of john if you would john chapter number three i've got seven of these so i'd like to move as quickly as we can john chapter number three matthew mark luke john john chapter three then do me a favor when you get there put a ribbon or bookmark or something there because we're going to leave it and we're going to come back to it i want you to be able to get to it quickly you should have your place in first john towards the end of the new testament and also in john the gospel of john towards the beginning of the new testament and look we're just talking about logical reasons to believe in eternal security it's the only thing that makes sense when it comes to salvation argument number one if any thing can cause you to lose your salvation then everything can cause you to lose your salvation number two a good father disciplines his children a good father does not abandon his children here's argument number three if everlasting life ends then it did not last forever if everlasting life ends look i'm just being reasonable with you so i don't think that eternal security is true i think you lose your salvation okay then answer me this if everlasting life ends if everlasting life ends then it did not last forever are you there in john 3 notice verse 16 john 3 16 most famous verse of the bible for god so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son that whosoever believeth in him should not perish but have everlasting life what the bible promises at the moment of salvation is everlasting life the bible also refers to it as eternal life notice john 3 and verse 36 because here's what people will say people will make this argument they'll say well yeah salvation is everlasting life but you get it after you die so they'll try to make add works to salvation by saying well while you're living on earth you know it's all dependent on how you live your life are you good are you bad you go to church and you repent of your sins and then once you die then god decides okay was he good enough was he not good enough and then if he decides to save you then he gives you eternal life then he gives you everlasting life here's the question though is that what the bible says does the bible say that you get everlasting life once you die then god decides if you're we're good enough to go to heaven he'll give you everlasting life well notice what the bible says in john 336 john 336 says this he that believeth on the sun i want you to notice this word it says half see that word half there he that believeth on the sun hath everlasting life and he that believeth not the sun shall not see life but the wrath of god abideth on him according to john 336 he that believeth on the sun hath everlasting life the word half is an older word that we don't use a lot today but it is defined as this to hold or maintain as a possession to hold certain the way that you and i would say it in modern vernacular would be half the word half is just the word of half he that believeth on the sun half everlasting life you have it you possess it you are certain of it according to the bible when do you get everlasting life everlasting life begins the moment you believe so it's not something you're going to get in the future he that believeth on the sun hath everlasting life the moment you believe on the lord jesus christ you say when does everlasting life begin it begins the moment you place your faith and confidence in the lord jesus christ it means it begins the moment that you believe on the lord jesus christ he that believeth on the sun hath everlasting life this is found throughout all the scripture look at john chapter five john chapter five and verse 24 just flip over a couple of pages there john 5 24. john 5 24 says this verily verily i say unto you he that heareth my word and believeth on him that sent me look at these words half everlasting life and shall not come into condemnation but is passed from death unto life notice john chapter 6 just to give you another example john chapter 6 verse 47 john 6 47 verily verily i say unto you he that believeth on me look at these look at this word half everlasting life verily verily i say unto you he that believeth on me half everlasting life you got everlasting life the moment that you believe and i have to explain this to people when i'm out soul winning the bible is not saying here that when you got saved god gave you everlasting life you're going to live on earth like some sort of immortal obviously you're going to die physically if you don't live to the rapture but the bible is teaching here that when your body dies physically you will not die the second death of being cast into the lake of fire but you'll go live with god for all of eternity that is everlasting life and it begins the moment you believed amen but here's the thing though people today believe go to first john chapter five if you would people today believe that yes god gives you everlasting life but he can take it away if you do something really bad he'll take it from you if you rob a bank and kill somebody if you turn away from him if you perform some major heinous sin and look please understand this we're not up here telling you live a wicked life we've already talked about it if you're a son of god god's going to chastise you and god's going to correct you and sin brings its own punishment and you reap what you sow but the thing is this if you believe that god gives you everlasting life and then five years from now 10 years from now 15 years from now because you did something bad or you stopped going to church or you walked away from living for god and then he takes it away from you then that would mean and and that that your everlasting life did not last forever and here's what you need to understand and what i need to understand is that if your everlasting life ends then that will make god a liar first john five look at verse 10 he that believeth on the son of god hath the witness in himself he that believeth not god look at these words he that believeth not god hath made him a liar now the bible says here he that believeth on the son of god hath the witness in himself he that believeth not god hath made him a liar you say well how has you how has this individual made god a liar here's how look at what it says because he believeth not the record that god gave of his son so here's what the bible is saying if you believe on the son of god you have the witness in yourself but he that believeth not god hath made him a liar because he believeth not the record that god gave his son the bible says if you do not believe the record that god gave of his son you are calling god a liar i think that's pretty serious to look at god and to say god you are a liar i mean to accuse someone of being a liar is something that would be very offensive to them and it's offensive to people that are liars and god isn't a liar he that believeth on the son of god hath the witness in himself he that believeth not god hath made him a liar because he believeth not the record that god gave of his son if you don't believe the record that god gave his son you are looking up at god and you are calling him a liar say well what's the record look at verse 11 and this is the record that god has given to us eternal life and this life is in his son you know what the record that god gave of his son is this that god has given to us eternal life and this life is in his son you say why do i have eternal life because i've got the son of god because he is life he said i am the way the truth and the life no man cometh unto the father but by me he said i am the resurrection and the life he that believeth in me though he were dead yet shall he live and whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die and he asked the question of the ages he says believeth thou this the record of the son of god is this that god has given to us eternal life and this life is in his son and if you don't believe that record you're calling god a liar if you don't believe that it's eternal life then you're calling god a liar and the truth is this that god cannot lie you say what is your hope for eternal life you don't have to turn here in fact you can go back to john chapter 10 if you would john chapter 10 in titus 1 2 the bible says this in hope of eternal life that's what we're talking about right eternal life he says here's your hope for time what is your hope for eternal life if you were to ask me pastor you meant is what is your hope for eternal life everlasting life eternal security once saved always safe in hope of eternal life here it is which god that cannot lie promise before the world began my hope for eternal life is this that god cannot lie and if god promised that i would have everlasting life the moment i believed then that life better last forever it better not come to an end and if it comes to an end that would make god a liar and people say well what if you do something really bad what if you sin what if you do something bad well if you're a child of god god is a good heavenly father and he'll chastise you and he'll correct you but he's not going to break his promise and take away your everlasting life so we're just talking about reasons why eternal security is true why one saved always saved is true why is it true because the truth is this that if any sin can cause you to lose your salvation and every sin can cause you to lose your salvation and that doesn't make any sense if you think that salvation is keeping any aspect of the law then you are a debtor to keep the whole law and you can't do that that's the whole reason why you got saved to begin with why do we believe in eternal security because at salvation god became our heavenly father and a good father disciplines his children but a good father does not abandon his children why do we believe in eternal security why do we believe in one saved always life well we believe it because if everlasting life ends then it did not last forever doesn't that just make sense let me give you a fourth statement go to john chapter number 10 again i'm just giving you these arguments right people will say well yes god gives you every life's life but he can take it away well if he takes it away that would make him a liar so he actually cannot take it away because god cannot lie so then others will say well no he won't take it away but you can give it back you can walk away from it like god will never take it away from you but you can decide to give it back john 10 look at verse 28 john 10 28 this is what jesus said and i give unto them look at these words eternal life that's what we're talking about right eternal life and i give unto them eternal life look at these words and they shall never perish look if god gives you eternal life if jesus gives you eternal life you will never perish you'll never die and go to hell now notice these words neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand i want you to look down at this verse john 10 28 jesus said and i give unto them eternal life and they shall never perish neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand he said when you got saved you got put into the hands of the lord jesus christ and he said neither shall any man pluck them remove them out of my hand now you see that that those two little words there any man in verse 28 when the bible says there any man that means every man that means all mankind no one can anyone pluck you out of the hands of god and the answer is neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand you know that that any man includes you you yourself cannot pluck yourself out of the hand of the lord jesus christ because you are included in that any man neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand then it gets worse look at verse 29 my father which gave them me i love this is greater than all notice that people always like to brag about their dads especially young children out on the playground my daddy can beat up your daddy let me tell you something as a child of god my daddy can definitely beat up your daddy my father which gave them me is greater than all and look at the words again no man is able to pluck them out of my father's hand again that no man includes you no man he says look when you got saved you got placed into the hands of the lord jesus christ and then god the father put his hand over the hands of the lord jesus christ and he says neither shall any he says they shall never perish neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand my father which gave them me is greater than all and no man is able to pluck them out of my father's hand here's the truth if you think that you can give your salvation back or you can walk away from god if i can walk away from god then that would make me stronger than god you understand what i just said we're talking about arguments why eternal security is true and here's what people they think they're smart they'll say well no god won't take it away but you can give it back god won't take it away but but you can walk away from god god won't take it away but you can walk away from god well here's the problem with that if i can walk away from god then that would make me stronger than god if i can pluck myself out of god's hand that would make me stronger than god and that doesn't make any sense because my father which gave them me is greater than all and no man is able to pluck them out of my father's hand and look again the idea go to romans chapter 8 if you would romans chapter 8 you're there in john you'll go past acts into the book of romans again this idea is the idea of a father with a child if you've ever been out traveling with one of your children often as we've traveled and gone to different countries or different places we've taken our children out soul winning maybe like in the philippines or mexico or something like that and we would often hold on to our children we'd make them when they were younger hold our hands why because wanted to keep them with us wanted to keep them safe now you know this is true that you're holding hands with a little three-year-old or a four-year-old or a five-year-old they'll see something that gets their attention and they'll start trying to run to it they'll start trying to get to it but i am their daddy and i am stronger than they are they've got their hand in my hand and they might be trying to pluck at that moment their hand out of my hand but i'm stronger than they are and they're not going anywhere because i'm their father and i will never leave them leave them nor forsake them and i'm not going to let them leave me either that's the idea look and you say well what about when people get back to it and what if when people go back to sin you might be like that little child that got distracted by something in the world and you might even now be currently trying to tug at that hand and try to get yourself away from god but your father is greater than you and he's not going to let you go and if you think that you can walk away from god then you must think that you can beat god in some sort of a spiritual arm wrestling competition and the truth is this that if i can walk away from god then that would make me stronger than god and greater than god and jesus said and i give unto them eternal life and they shall never perish neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand my father which gave them me is greater than all and no man is able to pluck them out of my father's hand notice romans 838 it underscores this same idea romans 838 paul said this for i am persuaded that neither death nor life nor angels nor principalities nor powers nor things present nor things to come nor height nor death nor any other creature shall be able to separate us from the love of god which is in christ jesus our lord what can separate you from the love of god nothing what can separate you no well i can separate myself no you're included in that neither death nor life nor angels nor principalities nor powers nor things present nor things to come nor height nor depth nor any other creature that includes you you can't walk away from god if you're safe you can't ever make him stop being your heavenly father go to ephigians if you would ephigians chapter one you're there in romans you're there in romans you just go past first and second corinthians into galatians and ephigians ephigians chapter one why do we believe in eternal security why would we believe in one saved always saved well here's what we believe we believe that any sin can send you to hell and that was actually the reason why we got saved because no matter how good we are we're not good enough to get ourselves to heaven and we needed jesus and once we're saved if you think any sin can cause you to lose your salvation then the truth is this that every sin could cause you to lose your salvation and therefore no one would ever be saved because we all sin every day why do we believe in eternal security we believe in eternal security because the day you got saved god became your heavenly father and a good father disciplines his children a good father does not abandon his children why do we believe in one saved always saved we believe in one saved always saved because if everlasting life ends then it did not last forever and that would make god a liar why do we believe in one saved always saved because if i can walk away from god and that would make me stronger than god and listen to me my confidence for eternal security is not in my strength but in his strength he can keep us from falling he can keep us saved you're there in ephesians one let me give you a fifth statement i'm giving you seven statements here's statement number five if i can lose my salvation based on the things i do then my faith is dependent on me and my works not christ you say why do you believe in eternal security why do you believe in one saves always saved well here's why i believe it are you there in ephesians one look at verse 13 in whom he also trusted your sense of the bible serves as its own dictionary and the bible often defines words for us and here the bible says in whom you also trusted after that you heard the word of truth the gospel of your salvation in whom also after that you believed you were sealed with the holy spirit of promise here salvation is being described how does somebody get saved they heard the word of truth the gospel of your salvation and then they believed after that you heard the word of truth the gospel of your salvation in whom also after that you believed you were sealed the holy spirit of promise that's how you got saved that's how everyone gets saved faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the word of god you hear the word of truth you hear the gospel and you believe it but the bible here is given us the definition for the word believe because oftentimes one word will have more than one definition and when the bible says believe it is not referring to a belief like i believe in the existence of something it's not talking about like a child who believes in the tooth fairy or in santa claus it's not just saying that we believe in the existence of god because the bible says that the devils believe and tremble they believe in the existence of god are they going to heaven when the bible says believe on the lord jesus christ and thou shalt be saved what it is saying is to put our trust or our confidence in the lord jesus christ look at the word look at ephesians 1 13 again in whom ye also trusted after that ye believed in whom ye also trusted after that you heard the word of truth the gospel of your salvation in whom also after that you believe notice how the phrases are similar for us to connect them in whom you also trusted in whom also after that you believe in whom you also trusted in whom also after that you believe trusted means to believe now what is salvation salvation is this i'm not trusting in myself to get me to heaven i'm not going to heaven because i live a good life because i go to church because i got baptized because i did anything salvation true salvation is i put my trust and confidence in the lord jesus christ look if you were to ask me pastor menez do you think you you're on your way to heaven if you were to die today if you were if you were to knock on my door and i open the door and you say do you know if you were to die today if you're on your way to heaven i would say yes and if you ask well what are you trusting in to give you to heaven what gives you that confidence that you're on your way to heaven i'm saying my confidence is in the lord jesus christ it's not in anything that i've ever done but here's the problem with people who think that they can lose their salvation is that if you think you can lose your salvation based on anything you've ever done then your faith is now dependent on you you understand what i'm saying to you well i'm on my way to heaven as long as i don't commit adultery well i hope you never commit adultery but if your confidence for going to heaven is the fact that i'll never commit adultery well now your confidence is in you i'm on my way to heaven as long as i don't kill someone i'm on my way to heaven as long as i don't turn on god i'm on my way to heaven as long as i don't do drugs i'm on my way to heaven look if your confidence in going to heaven or staying safe is as long as you don't or as long as you do then your confidence is not in jesus it's in you and that's not salvation and what's interesting to me is that people will say people will say well no you can't work your way to heaven you can't earn it but then they'll say but you can lose it well if i can't earn it by anything i do then why would i be able to lose it by anything i do look it's all jesus and if i can lose my salvation based on things that i do then my faith is dependent on me and on my works and not christ now are there in ephesians 1 we are looking at verse 13 but i'd like you to notice another thing here in verse 13 ephesians 1 13 in whom you also trusted after that you heard the word of truth the gospel of your salvation in whom also look at these words after that you believed you were sealed with that holy spirit of promise the bible teaches that the moment you got saved the moment you believed you were sealed with the holy spirit of promise now the pentecostals and the charismatics they like to teach that no you get the holy spirit down the road first you believe then you repent of your sins then you get baptized and then you get the holy spirit later they try to teach that it's something that's separate from believing but that's not what the bible says look at it again ephesians 1 13 in whom also in whom ye also trusted after that ye heard the word of truth the gospel of your salvation in whom also look at these words after that ye believed after that you believe what happened after that you believe you were sealed with that holy spirit of promise not only did you get eternal life and the promise of eternal life the moment that you believe you got you were sealed with the holy spirit of promise after that you believe you were sealed by the holy spirit the moment you believed look at ephesians chapter 4 ephesians chapter 4 and verse 30 ephesians 4 30 look at what it says here ephesians 4 and verse 30 says this and grieve not the holy spirit of god whereby ye are sealed until the day of redemption you receive the holy spirit after that you believe and you are sealed unto the day of redemption until the day that you're fully redeemed not just soul and spirit but our bodies until the day of the rapture until the day that we receive the glorified bodies the bible says that we are sealed with the holy spirit until the day of redemption go to second corinthians chapter one if you go backwards you have ephesians galatians second corinthians go to second corinthians chapter number one here's statement number six if i can lose my salvation then god would lose his holy spirit if i can lose my salvation then god will lose his holy spirit you say well how can that be well the day that i got saved i was sealed with the holy spirit of promise we were sealed by the holy spirit the moment we believed notice second corinthians chapter 1 and verse 22 second corinthians 1 22 who have also sealed us look at look at this phrase and given the earnest of the spirit in our hearts here in second corinthians 1 22 the bible tells us that when we were sealed by the holy spirit of promise that he was given as the earnest of the spirit the earnest of the spirit that word earnest is a term that is often used in business in the sense of purchasing or making some purchase and the way that we probably would use it the most today is as earnest money let me give you a definition for the phrase earnest money earnest money is defined as a deposit made to a seller showing the buyer's intent to purchase this is often for something a major purchase like like a house or property or thing like that the bible says a deposit made to a seller showing the excuse me not the bible the definition earnest money is a deposit made to a seller showing the buyer's intent to purchase often used in real estate transactions earnest money may be lost if the buyer backs out so what happens is that somebody decides i'd like to purchase this house and they put some money down not necessarily the down payment just some earnest money a thousand dollars because i'm saying i'd like to purchase this and i'm going to come back and buy it i'm going to go get a loan and i'm going to go get it all situated i'm going to come back and buy it but the person selling the property in order for them to stop listing it or stop showing it or to hold it you've got to put something down to show you're serious about this thing put a thousand dollars down as earnest money so what happens if you decide later on now i decided i don't want it you lose the earnest money the earnest money is there to show that you're serious about coming back for the thing you'd like to purchase well the bible says that we were sealed second Corinthians 1 22 who have also sealed us and given the earnest of the spirit in our hearts you say why did god seal us with the holy spirit why did he give us the holy spirit when we got saved why were we sealed with the holy spirit he was given as an earnest to show that he was going to come back for us he was given as the earnest payment of his redemption to show that he was not going to forsake us that he was not going to forget about us and here's the thing about something being given as an earnest given as a pledge is that if you don't come back and purchase it you lose it we see this in the old testament as well it was called the pledge someone wanted to purchase something they'd give a pledge they give something of value saying i'm going to come back and i'm going to purchase i'm going to make the payment and then i'll receive what i pledged back and the idea was that if they never came back they lost that which was pledged they lost that which was earnest and listen the holy spirit has been given as the earnest of my salvation so if i can lose my salvation if i can walk away from god or god walks away from me then not only would i lose my salvation but god would lose the holy spirit just like someone would lose the earnest money when they decide i don't want to purchase it if god decides i don't want to go through with this transaction i don't want to purchase their salvation then he would lose the holy spirit and god's not going to lose the holy spirit god is the holy spirit the holy spirit is the third member of the godhead the holy spirit is gone so why are you so sure that you can't lose your salvation i'm as sure that i can't lose my salvation as i am sure that god cannot lose the holy spirit because i was sealed with the holy spirit of promise god made a promise and god doesn't lie i was sealed with the holy spirit of god whereby he are sealed unto the day of redemption he's going to come back and redeem us he's going to finish the transaction and make the purchase and he was given as the earnest of the spirit in our hearts who has also sealed us and given the earnest of the spirits in our hearts so i said number one we believe in eternal security because if anything can cause you to lose your salvation then everything can cause you to lose your salvation number two we believe in internal security because a good father disciplines his children a good father does not abandon his children number three we believe in internal security because if everlasting life ends then it did not last forever number four we believe in eternal security because if i can wake walk if i can walk away from god then that would make me stronger than god number five if i can lose my salvation based on things i do and my faith is dependent on me and not christ number six if i can lose my salvation then god can lose his holy spirit and god is not going to lose his holy spirit let me give you one last one and we'll finish up go to hebrews chapter 10 if you would if you kept your place in first john if you go backwards from first john you've got second and first peter james and then hebrews hebrews chapter 10 going backwards from first john second first peter james and then hebrews hebrews chapter number 10 hebrews chapter number 10 and verse 12 here's statement number seven if jesus paid for all my sins then i can't pay for any of my sins past present or future in hebrews 10 and verse 12 the bible says this but this man referring to jesus after he had offered i love how this is worded look at it one sacrifice four sins forever after he had offered one sacrifice four sins forever sat down on the right hand of god you know that jesus is one sacrifice paid for all of our sins forever how many sacrifices one sacrifice four sins forever first john one seven you have to turn there says this but if we walk in the light as he is in the light we have fellowship one with another and the blood of jesus christ his son cleansed us from all sin the bible teaches that jesus is one sacrifice paid for all our sins he paid for all our sins and as a result all our sins are gone look at hebrews chapter 10 hebrews chapter 10 look at verse 17 hebrews chapter 10 and verse 17 notice this verse hebrews 17 and their sins and iniquities will i remember no more the bible says that god will not remember our sins or iniquities and their sins and iniquities will i remember no more why because but this man after he had offered one sacrifice for sins forever sat down on the right hand of god and look today people they'll have this idea they'll say okay well yeah when i got saved jesus forgave me of my sins he forgave me all my past sins but what if i do something in the future if i do something bad in the future then i could still lose my salvation did he pay for those sins listen to me the bible says that jesus was the lamb slain from the foundation of the world the bible says that when jesus died on the cross he died over 2 000 years ago and here's the truth 2 000 years ago all of your sins were in the future so people think well what if i do something bad in the past look when jesus forgives you of your sins he forgives you of all your sins past present and future you're going to do something in the future you shouldn't do you're going to sin we're all without sin but he's already paid for that sin one sacrifice for sins forever that's how he guarantees eternal life and here's the truth if jesus paid for all my sins then i don't have to pay for any of them past present or future and people get this idea well what if i do something really bad he paid for those two and the truth is that you have to believe in the eternal security of the believer you have to believe in one saved always saved because people sometimes that will make this argument say well i don't believe in it but you believe in it i think we're all saved no no no because every statement we've looked at this morning everything we've seen from the bible proves this that if you think you can lose your salvation then you're still trusting in yourself and that's not salvation you can't earn it and once you have it you can't lose it or you're not saved because he either paid for all of it or he paid for none of it well he paid for the past but not the future but no he paid for all of them and their sins and iniquities will i remember no more psalm 103 12 you have to turn there says this as far as the east is from the west so hath he removed our transgressions from us if you are saved your sins are gone he's paid for all of them and he doesn't remember any of them anymore he's forgiven all of them that's eternal security that's one saved always saved my trust and my confidence is in jesus christ alone let's bow our heads and have a word of prayer family father lord we do love you and we do thank you for the security that is found in christ lord i pray you'd help us to be clear about these things we believe that salvation is in jesus christ alone and our confidence is in him lord i pray you'd help us i pray you'd guide us lord i pray that you would help us to understand these things and to not waver on them and help us to teach others also that
