It seems kind of subtle. Yeah. Good evening, everyone. Welcome to Faithful Workout Church. All right. Great to see you all here for this evening's service. If you all please have a seat. Grant Himmel will open up that building to song number. Song number 136. ["FAST, WELL, TENDER'S PRAISE"] Fast, we'll watch as grace is breaking. The willows are touched to see right. The sky is your shadow and bright. The shelter, Lord, for is mine. There is not long coming, tender, not with the fire of sin. In the trumpets so fast, they have stood me. I've prayed and who ain't redeemed. No reason, no patience, no faith, no path, we long with peace, but still. Where the little wrath of the souls must see, more demons or better, more death or defeat, no water can swallow the ship. The answer goes to Jesus Christ outside. May the Lord just keep me awake, I will. He is the Son of Jesus. May the Lord just keep me awake, I will. Please, please, please, still. Fast, my living, and we shall see it rain. I've gathered my King to give. But there's a voice in my heart, O Lord, who will give his name and reign. O Lord, who's still a-hanging, see who I'm speaking to. And if I wish, I'm nourished and destined. O, hasten and take control. The voice of my King shall obey my will. Please, please, please, still. O, better the wrath of the souls must see, more demons or better, more death or defeat, no water can swallow the ship. Let life, the bastard of the ship, gather in sight. May the Lord just keep me awake, I will. Please, please, still. Please, please, still. May the Lord just keep me awake, I will. Please, please, still. Now, the last thing. Master of temper is over, he alone will speak, he will. But so has the confidence given, and that has within my rest. Faker, hopeless, and redeemer, he alone, O Lord. Let me true thyself in the disorder, and rest all the blissful shore. The voice of my King shall obey my will. Please, please, still. O, better the wrath of the souls must see, more demons or better, more death or defeat, no water can swallow the ship. Let life, the bastard of the ship, gather in sight. May God just keep me awake, I will. Please, please, still. Please, please, still. May God just keep me awake, I will. Please, please, still. Amen. Great segment, everyone. Father Elbow, would you pray for us? Well, God, thank you for this church, and thank you for this evening's service. Please bless this evening's service, and receive all the glory tonight, Father God, in Jesus' mighty name. Amen. Amen. Amen. Amen. Let's turn to the hymn. It's a song of 441. 441. Great is thy name. 441. Good is heaven in the people of my Father. There is no shadow on turning with me. Now changes come to the question, take them up, as the vast gift of forever come near. Great is thy faithfulness. Great is thy faithfulness. Morning by morning, new mercies I see. All I have needed thy hand hath provided. Great is thy faithfulness, Lord unto me. Summer and winter, springtime and harvest. Sun and moon and stars, their voices above. Join with the majoring in thy true greatness. To thy great name, who makes mercy and love. Great is thy faithfulness. Great is thy faithfulness. Morning by morning, new mercies I see. All I have needed thy hand hath provided. Great is thy faithfulness, Lord unto me. Morning by morning, new mercies I see. My own dear presence to cheer and to guide. Strength for today and my hope for tomorrow. Blessings all mine for strength now to be sung. Great is thy faithfulness. Great is thy faithfulness. Morning by morning, new mercies I see. All I have needed thy hand hath provided. Great is thy faithfulness, Lord unto me. Amen. It's time to go over to the announcements. We need to do the Apollo and we need to do the Soviet modules. We're actually out of bulletins tonight, but just follow along with me. It's pretty much the same, obviously, as every week. We have the Sunday services. Every Sunday at 10.30 p.m. we get five great p.m. And, of course, we just celebrated a few birthdays for September, and we had a big five-year anniversary. So thanks to everybody that came out and brought a dish or just brought your appetite in year one. It was appreciated. So it was a great Sunday. We had 92 in attendance, so it was great to see a lot of folks from Tempe now and several visitors. So we appreciate everybody coming out for that. And then also, just quickly, there is still the sign-up sheet back there for the cleaning. If anyone wants to help participate in the volunteer cleaning program, that's back there. And then that's really it. That's all we've got in the announcements tonight. So just move right along. Let's go ahead and count up some of it going back to Monday. Is it from Monday? Tuesday? Is it Tuesday? I don't know. So that makes three. Okay. Right Wednesday in here somewhere right there right now. Okay. Okay. Anything from Wednesday or today? All right. Okay. We'll go ahead and sing one more song before we go to the future tonight. All right. It's like Gabriel's hand going first. Up! 47. 47. Watch me not know it. Well, it looks like I don't know it. 355. 355. I know that one. You know that one. All right. 355. We have a Jesus. 355. We love you. We love you. We love you. We love you. We love you. We love you. We love you. We love you. Go to Philippians chapter number three. The Bible says in Jeremiah, Thus saith the Lord, Stand ye in the ways, and seek, and ask for the old paths. Where is the good way? And walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls. You know we don't need to come up with some new way of raising kids. We don't need to come up with some new avant-garde way of running a household, or conducting ourselves in our marriages or marriage roles. We don't need to come up with all new ways of preaching. Get a new Bible of the month up here. Just to be different. Just to tell some new thing. What we need is ask for the old paths. Because that's the good way. And that's the way that brings rest onto our souls. You know all I'm interested in is the end result. And if it's the old tried and true that gets me there, then that's what I'm going to use. Because I'm just interested in the result. Look at Philippians chapter 3 verse 1. Finally my brethren, rejoice in the Lord. To write the same things to you, to me it is not grievous, but for you it is safe. You know as a preacher you don't want to always get caught up and say, well this Sunday, this Thursday night, you know I got to come up with just this sermon's got to be better than the last one. I just got to blow the last sermon out of the water. I just got to wow everybody and rock everyone's theology. No, he said to write the same things to me indeed is not grievous. It doesn't bother me that I'm preaching the same thing. It doesn't bother me that I'm covering the same subject I might have covered months ago, a year ago. You know, you know why it doesn't bother me is because I know how it is. You're lucky, and this goes for me, this goes for anybody that sits through a church service, you're lucky if you get out that door and remember one or two things from the sermon tonight. I try to make it, you know, try to make main points. I know tonight we're kind of all over the place. You know, but that's what makes the verse by verse stuff kind of hard sometimes to make it all congeal because you know that most people, 90% of what you say is going to whoop, right? And that's why you have to be faithful to church. Week in and week out, week in and week out. That's why people who typically are the three to thrive crowd like you folks here tonight that are showing up Sunday morning, Sunday night, Thursday night, typically are the more mature Christians that go further in their Christian life that do more. Because, why? Because they're hearing new things. No, because they're consistently being reminded of the same old things that they've forgotten. Things that they might have heard, remembered for a little while and then forgot. Because that's just human nature. That's how our minds work. Things just, if we aren't constantly thinking about it, it just goes out of our mind. You know, the reason why I know my way home tonight is when I leave is because I've driven that way a thousand times. Right? But if you tell me to go over somewhere I've never been, I'm going to have to get directions. And I know that, you know, if you tell me to go to the same place next week, I'm going to have to get directions. I'm going to have to go there three or four times before I know how to get there. Because that's how our minds are built. And the older we get, the worse that gets. I've noticed too, right? Now you walk in rooms and you're just like, why did I come in this room? You go back to where you were and you're like, maybe if I just stand when I was like this. You know, what was I doing? Try to reenact what happened. And you're like, oh yeah. And then you figure it out. Sometimes you don't figure it out. Isn't that dragging nuts? You're like, you knew there was something you had to write down anyway. But that's how our minds work, right? That's why, you know, it's not grievous to me to get up, you know, and preach through a chapter that hundreds of other preachers, thousands of other preachers, you know, you could probably go home tonight and get on YouTube and find really good preaching on Acts chapter number 17. And you might even hear some of the same things being said. Well, aren't you afraid that someone's going to accuse you of being just like so-and-so? No, because I'm just preaching the Bible. It's not grievous to me. If I'm making the same points that somebody else has made, well then I must be right. You've got to get nervous when I start making up stuff that you've never heard before, which I know happens every now and then. Right? But if that's like a consistent, steady diet of me just like trying to come up with new things, you know, well, it won't be for long before you know, I've bounded off into the land of heresy. You know? He's saying it's not grievous for me to write the same things on to you. But notice, he goes on, but for you, it is safe. It's safe. Look, the old paths, the good way, it's safe. That's where the rest is. Just trust the Bible. Trust what God said. It's tried and true. It's worked for millennia. Many marriages have been rescued, saved. Many marriages have been greatly blessed. Children have been raised. Churches have been built. Souls have been saved by the millions, yea, even the billions, through the old paths for the same things. Not from coming up with new things all the time. I know I keep threatening to close this up. I mean it this time. Go back to our story. I've got to wrap this up quickly. Then Paul stood in the midst of Mars Hill and said, ye men of anthems, I perceive that in all things you are too superstitious. For as I passed by, and behold, your devotions, I found an altar with the inscription to the unknown God, whom therefore he ignorantly worshipped, him declare I unto you, God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that he is the Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands, neither is worship with men's hands, as though he needed anything, seeing he giveth life to all and the breath at all things. Because these guys are, they're offering things to these idols. But he's saying, look, the God that made everything doesn't need anything from you. He made everything. Notice verse 26, and he made, hath made of one blood all nations for men to dwell on the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed and the bounds of their habitation. So he says here that God hath made of one blood all nations. We all trace our lineage back to one person. We can go back far enough, we all came from the same blood. This is why it's so stupid when people get hung up on things like ethnicity, race, whatever tribal thing that they cling onto. And it's so stupid when you hear even people who claim to believe the Bible teach some kind of a supremacist view. And look, every ethnicity has their take on that. You have the white nationalists, and then you have the black Hebrew Israelites. And they both agree that the other is, can't get saved, doesn't have a soul, whatever. And it's racist, it's bigotry. You know? And look, he hath made of one blood all nations. And there's so many other passages we could turn to. If you would, very quickly, go to Acts 14, I'm wrapping this up. I'll remind us of Revelation chapter number 7 where after the opening of the sixth seal, in between the sixth and seventh seal, you have the sealing of the 144,000 in Revelation 7. And then John says that he beheld, and lo, a great multitude, this is the rapture, which is after the sixth seal. He saw, lo, a great multitude, which no man could number. And they were all white. They were all Anglo-Saxon. No, they were all Hispanic. They were all black. They were all native. No, he said, of all nations. All nations. And kindred, and people, and tongues, and you know, this disproves some stupid doctrines that are out there, that you know, when we all get to heaven, we're all gonna be 30-year-old white men. It's crazy. This, this nutty stuff that's out there. Cause he's looking and saying, I saw all nations, all kindreds, peoples, tongues. How do you think he noticed that? He'd walk up to each individual, you know, 30-year-old white male and say, where are you from? And where are you from? No, he just looked at him and said, there's people from Africa, there's people from Germany, there's people from Canada. I don't know what Canadians look like. You know, there's people, there's people from all over the world up here. All nations. Right? Just by looking at them. Okay? So again, it shows us that we, we must retain some kind of our, you know, our ethnicity in there. We're identifiable in some way. Okay? Cause you know, that's, you know, there's your diversity training for tonight. Right? And then, of course, in Galatians we're taught that we are all one in Christ Jesus. But let's move along in the story. I think we all get that. Okay? He said that they should seek the Lord if happily they might feel after him. Talking about the nations. They should feel after them. They should seek for the Lord. For in him we live, verse 28, and have our being, as certain also of your own poets have said, for we are his offspring. So that's what they said. We're all God's children. So he's just kind of using that. Obviously we know, the Bible says that if we believe on Christ, we're born again. Right? Then to him gave the power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name. John 1-12. Okay? Not everyone is a child of God. Not everyone is a child of the devil either. Some people are just the sons of men. Okay? They're just normal, average sinners. You know, they're not, they haven't pledged allegiance to Satan. They're not sons of Belial, as the Bible calls it. But they're not born again. Now why would Paul say that? We are also offspring. Obviously he's using what one of their own poets have said as a springboard to get them thinking. Okay? He's just taking advantage of that. He goes on and says in verse 24, as much then as we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the God has like unto God or silver or stone and graven by art and man's device. He's saying if we're all made in God's image, then why would you think that God is a graven image? Why would you think that he's made of gold or of stone? He's saying if we're his offspring, that means we're like him. You know, God, Christ has a body. It's in heaven. He's not some ethereal spirit there. Okay? And the times of this ignorance, the ignorance of thinking that God is an idol, God winked at, but now commandeth all men everywhere to repent. Now, that term winked at, go back to Acts 14 real quick. He's not saying, you know, because in our vernacular, we might think, oh, winked. Like God's being dismissive of the fact that they are idolaters. Right? Like God's just like, hey, I know you're into idolatry and that's wrong. You know? I know I wrote like whole passages in the Old Testament condemning idolatry. I know I, you know, told my people I'd curse them and destroy them if they practice it, but, you know, wink, wink. That's not what it's saying. That's how we think of winking. Right? It's like one of these kind of things. Like, eh, you know what I mean? I know that's what I said, but mum's the word. Kind of a tongue-in-cheek thing. That's not what it means here. What he's saying, and I think Acts 14 kind of clears that up. It says in verse 15, and saying, Sirs, why do ye these things? We also are men of like passions with you and preached on you that you should turn from these vanities unto the living God. Because you remember they were going to come and sacrifice to Paul and Barnabas. They thought they were gods coming down from heaven because of the miracle that they did. They were going to sacrifice oxen. They brought forth the garlands. And he's stopping them. He's like, don't do this. We're men like you and we serve the god that's teaching us you should turn unto the living god. Turn from these vanities unto the god which made heaven and earth and the sea and all things therein who in times past suffered all nations to walk in their own ways. I think that's what he means by the winking. Is that god wasn't like, oh, you know, what's a little idolatry among the heathen. Right? He's just saying he suffered it. You know, he just put up with it. He winked at it. He just kind of, you know, it was almost like a wince maybe. I don't know. But basically he didn't give it as much thought as he does now. He's not as concerned with it now. Because obviously, you know, prior to Christ, the nation of Israel was meant to be a light unto the gentiles. They were supposed to be an example to the other nations. That the other nations would come and learn of the lord. And they would worship god there. That they would learn the true and living god. Of course, they utterly failed at that. And it's, you know, and god didn't just give the heathen nations a pass. He allowed them to continue doing what they were doing. But now, he says at the end of verse 30 of Acts 17, but now commandeth all men everywhere to repent. Meaning he's not going to suffer it any longer. He's not going to, you're kind of without excuse at this point. Not that it was right or okay before. But now it's not just the nation of Israel that's having this truth and they're seeking them out. Now that god is done with Israel, right, he's taken the kingdom from them and given unto a nation bringing out the fruits thereof. The spiritual Israel, those of us that have believed on Christ, and he's sending his disciples, his apostles out into the world to preach the gospel. And he's commanding that all men repent because now the gospel is being brought to them. Okay. In times past, he winked at it. Times past, he suffered it. You know, in the end of Acts 14, nevertheless he left not himself without witness and that he did good and gave us rain from heaven and fruitful seasons, filling our hearts with food and guidance. God didn't just outright judge and come down hard on the heathen. He suffered it. He winked at it. He still provided for them. But now that the gospel's going out unto the gentile nations, now there's no excuse. Now you need to repent of that. Look, if you were an idolater before, you're still going to die and go to hell because you didn't believe in Christ. God suffered it. But now he's sent out the message of the gospel. There's no excuses. Look at verse 31. We'll wrap it up. So, the witch was Dionysus, the Areopagite, and a woman named Damarius and others with them. So in closing, you know, Paul is going out there and preaching all this and we see that he has mixed results. Right? When he's preaching in the synagogues, some of the Greek, you know, very few of the Jews are believing, many of the Greeks, and of the chief men and women, not a few. Right? He's getting mixed results. And the thing, the last thing I want to close on is just that, you know, we need to keep preaching and let the results take care of themselves. The results are going to be whatever they're going to be. Because what happened here? Some mocked. Look, you go out preaching the gospel, you're going to have people that mock. There's going to be some people that just laugh at you, not interested. There's going to be others said, we will hear the again this matter, some people. You don't want to get this attitude either if somebody's not interested. Reprobate. Just like, oh, that's it, they're damned to hell. You know what I mean? Or be overly upset about it. Because sometimes people, like, they'll go and preach to someone and they just don't get it, or they're not interested. They're not mean, they're not mocking, they're not cruel. But it's just not their day. Okay? And look, when we go out soul winning and preaching the gospel to people, we know that God knows where we're going before we even do. You know, and if we go knock a door and someone's not home, well, God knew we weren't going to be there. And God could have engineered circumstances to cross our paths with certain people. I believe that. That's why I don't get super upset about something when some people don't receive it. Because sometimes they say, we will hear the again this matter. And you know what? Some people, that's just what it takes. They'll hear it again. I mean, I can't tell you how many times, I mean, I remember going into a Baptist church in some Sunday school or whatever, and having the gospel preached to me when I was like in fifth grade. I didn't get saved then though. I remember talking to guys downtown where I grew up. Baptists, you know, I came in late to find out, preaching me the gospel, I didn't get saved. You know, and it took another person, you know, preaching to me consistently, it took time. You know? Some people have to hear it more than once. In fact, a lot of people do. Okay? That's why it's so important that we just keep going. Right? Because we need to go catch those people again. Right? But notice verse 34, how be it certain men clave unto him. There is going to be certain people that are going to hear it, they're going to believe it, and there's going to be some people that cleave, that grab onto it and run with it. They believed, and then you get these very specific people to, you know, Dionysus, this is Dionysus, excuse me, however you say it, and a woman named Demerius. Right? These two, they believed, and they cleaved onto it. But, you know, there's always going to be the some, there's always going to be the others. It's just that we want the certain to be the majority. That's usually not how it works, outsole winning. So, prepare yourself for that. Don't get so, you know, you go outsole winning sometimes. For example, you know, we went out last Saturday, several teams for several hours, and had one salvation. Right? And it could be discouraging, but you know what? At least those people got a chance. And for all you know, there's people there, that was just another, you know, the Bible says in 1 Corinthians, some water, some plant, but God giveth the increase. You know, that might have been a planting that needed to take place. Look, if that's all it was, praise God. Now we can come back, or somebody else can come along and water that seed. You know, never, never think that your labor is in vain in the Lord. It's not. Even if you don't come back and report and have people saved, or you're not seeing people just flooding here to get baptized and on fire for God and whatever. You know, if we just faithfully and dutifully keep serving God, the results will take care of themselves. The important thing is that we keep doing things the way we know we're supposed to do them. The old way, the tried and true, the tested, that's where rest is found for people's souls. You know, that's what's gonna get people saved. Just keep doing the same thing that we've always been doing. You know, because it works. Look, if we're doing things that don't work, then yeah, we'll change it. But what we do works. You know, it might not work as effectively as we would like it all of the time, but we know from our own experiences and from the examples of other people that going out and preaching the gospel is never the wrong way to do it. In fact, it's the biblical way. You know, that's what the Bible said, to go into the world and preach the gospel, not go out and see how many door hangers you can put up. We could pay people to do that. We could literally just take our pool of our resources and hire someone. Hire one person to go out and hang a thousand door fliers or whatever on a weekend. That's not what we're called to do. A door flier ministry, we're called to go out and preach the gospel. And I feel like I'm going to start preaching a whole other sermon, but I need to close. Why am I preaching? Why am I making that last point? Because that's what works. That's the tried and true. That's the tested. Keep sticking with it. That's what Paul kept doing. Every time I go into a synagogue, something bad happens and just focus on the negative. I get stoned. Well, not the way you're thinking. I get run out of city on the rail. People get arrested. I get beaten. Riots are started. Focus on the negative and how it's not working, but think of all the good things that worked. Every time he's going into these synagogues and preaching these people, you're going into where people are, going to them and preaching to them. Some are mocking. Others will say, hey, we'll hear again. But certain are getting saved. And sometimes multitudes are getting saved. So just keep doing what we're doing and God will take care of the rest. Dear Lord, again, thank you for the great example of the Apostle Paul throughout Scripture. Lord, I pray you'd help us to continue to learn from his life and, Lord, his ministry in the coming weeks as we go through the book of Acts. And, Lord, thank you for an example of persistence. Lord, an example of willingness to suffer, Lord, for the sake of others. And, Lord, I pray you'd help us to have that same mentality, that same attitude, that same philosophy when it comes to evangelism, Lord, and preaching your word, Lord, that we would go out there and we'd be willing to be mocked, Lord, to be ridiculed, to be persecuted, Lord, in order to get our message out there. It's a message that the world needs to hear. It's the message that you want published unto all the nations, Lord, so that we can contribute to that great multitude that's John saw, Lord, of all nations. Lord, I pray you'd help us to do that and that you would continue to bless our efforts. We ask these things in Christ's name. Amen. Alright, we'll go ahead and sing one more song before we go. Amen. We'll put our handles to song number 224. There shall be showers in the last 224. There shall be showers of blessing. This is the promise of love. There shall be seasons refreshing. Sand from the spade through above. Showers of blessing. Showers of blessing we need. First we trust round us to call thee. But for the showers we need. There shall be showers of blessing. Precious reviving again. Under the hills and the valleys. Sound of abundance of rain. Showers of blessing. Showers of blessing we need. First we trust round us to call thee. But for the showers we need. There shall be showers of blessing. Send them upon us, O Lord. And to us thou art refreshing. Come and thou under thy word. Showers of blessing. Showers of blessing we need. First we trust round us to call thee. But for the showers we need. There shall be showers of blessing. Old as we've been in life, Lord. Now as to God we're confessing. Now as to Jesus we know. Showers of blessing. Showers of blessing we need. First we trust round us to call thee. But for the showers we need. But for the showers we need. Hey, how are you doing? I'm good. Good to see you. Hi. I'll be surprised you're here. I know. I'm surprised you're here. I know. I'll be surprised you're here. I know. I'll be surprised you're here. I know.
