WEBVTT 00:00:46.720 --> 00:00:51.140 It starts out in verse number 1, "In the first year of Belshazzar, king of Babylon, Daniel 00:00:51.140 --> 00:00:54.820 had a dream and visions of his head upon his bed. 00:00:54.820 --> 00:00:58.310 Then he wrote the dream and told the sum of the matters. 00:00:58.310 --> 00:01:01.910 Daniel spake and said, 'I saw in my vision by night, and behold, the four winds of the 00:01:01.910 --> 00:01:09.080 heaven strove upon the great sea, and four great beasts came up from the sea, diverse 00:01:09.080 --> 00:01:10.930 one from another.'" 00:01:10.930 --> 00:01:15.470 Now this is going to be a throwback to Daniel chapter 2, and if you remember in Daniel chapter 00:01:15.470 --> 00:01:21.090 2, there's that great image that Nebuchadnezzar dreamed about, and the image had the head 00:01:21.090 --> 00:01:27.570 of gold, and then as you went down the image, it went from gold to silver to bronze, and 00:01:27.570 --> 00:01:31.190 then to iron, and then you had the feet mingled with iron and clay. 00:01:31.190 --> 00:01:38.200 And that dream was interpreted by Daniel to Nebuchadnezzar that the head of gold was Nebuchadnezzar 00:01:38.200 --> 00:01:43.380 himself, the great king of Babylon, and that was the first great empire. 00:01:43.380 --> 00:01:47.640 And the reason that it was gold is because it was the most superior empire. 00:01:47.640 --> 00:01:52.930 And then the next empire was the Medo-Persian Empire, which makes sense that it would be 00:01:52.930 --> 00:01:57.320 this portion of the body with the chest and arms because it had two arms. 00:01:57.320 --> 00:02:02.110 It had the Mede aspect and the Persian aspect. 00:02:02.110 --> 00:02:07.440 And it said that that kingdom was inferior to Nebuchadnezzar's great Babylonian empire. 00:02:07.440 --> 00:02:14.730 And then after that the third section of brass was the Grecian empire and then the Iron empire 00:02:14.730 --> 00:02:17.160 was the Roman empire. 00:02:17.160 --> 00:02:22.550 And of course Christ's first coming took place during the Roman empire. 00:02:22.550 --> 00:02:28.340 Well, in Daniel chapter seven we're going to see that these four beasts represent those 00:02:28.340 --> 00:02:32.090 same four kingdoms and they fit together perfectly. 00:02:32.090 --> 00:02:33.390 Look at verse number four. 00:02:33.390 --> 00:02:37.210 The Bible says the first was like a lion. 00:02:37.210 --> 00:02:43.020 Now right away the lion is used in the Bible often to symbolize a great king because the 00:02:43.020 --> 00:02:48.320 lion is considered the king of the jungle and it's considered the strongest among beasts 00:02:48.320 --> 00:02:52.140 that turneth not away for any, as it says in Proverbs chapter 30. 00:02:52.140 --> 00:02:59.270 So of course the greatest king in this series, Nebuchadnezzar, is symbolized by the lion. 00:02:59.270 --> 00:03:04.220 It says the first was like a lion and had eagle's wings and the eagle is considered 00:03:04.220 --> 00:03:06.380 the greatest flying bird. 00:03:06.380 --> 00:03:12.210 It says I beheld till the wings thereof were plucked, and it was lifted up from the earth, 00:03:12.210 --> 00:03:16.920 and made stand upon the feet as a man, and a man's heart was given to it. 00:03:16.920 --> 00:03:20.530 Now again, this makes perfect sense about Nebuchadnezzar because if you remember in 00:03:20.530 --> 00:03:22.360 chapter 4, what happened? 00:03:22.360 --> 00:03:28.650 He was given the heart of a beast and his hair grew like bird's feathers and his fingernails 00:03:28.650 --> 00:03:35.340 became as bird claws and he was on all fours like an animal eating grass outside for seven 00:03:35.340 --> 00:03:36.330 years. 00:03:36.330 --> 00:03:37.770 Now, after that what happened? 00:03:37.770 --> 00:03:42.990 He was lifted up from the earth, he was made to stand up like a man and a man's heart was 00:03:42.990 --> 00:03:46.330 given unto him, meaning that his sanity came back to him. 00:03:46.330 --> 00:03:49.740 So that fits perfectly again with Nebuchadnezzar. 00:03:49.740 --> 00:03:54.530 So everything fits there for verse number 4 with the head of gold being parallel with 00:03:54.530 --> 00:03:55.520 the lion. 00:03:55.520 --> 00:03:57.540 Okay, let's go to verse 5. 00:03:57.540 --> 00:04:04.360 And behold another beast a second like to a bear and it raised up itself on one side 00:04:04.360 --> 00:04:09.830 and it had three ribs in the mouth of it between the teeth of it and they said thus unto it, 00:04:09.830 --> 00:04:12.310 arise devour much flesh. 00:04:12.310 --> 00:04:17.080 So if this is parallel with Daniel chapter 2 this would be the Medo-Persian Empire which 00:04:17.080 --> 00:04:18.960 makes perfect sense again. 00:04:18.960 --> 00:04:24.280 Why because in Daniel chapter 8 it likens the Medo-Persian Empire to a ram having two 00:04:24.280 --> 00:04:29.510 horns and it talks about how one horn was higher than the other. 00:04:29.510 --> 00:04:33.720 Because of the Medes and the Persians the Persians ended up being much more powerful 00:04:33.720 --> 00:04:34.870 and dominant. 00:04:34.870 --> 00:04:40.050 So it makes sense that the bear is raised up on one side, meaning it's off balance because 00:04:40.050 --> 00:04:44.540 it's a lot more heavily Persian than it is of the Medes. 00:04:44.540 --> 00:04:50.940 Now it says that there are three ribs in his mouth that say unto it, arise devour much 00:04:50.940 --> 00:04:52.080 flesh. 00:04:52.080 --> 00:04:53.070 What do those three ribs represent? 00:04:53.070 --> 00:04:56.960 Well flip over to Daniel chapter 11 to get the answer. 00:04:56.960 --> 00:05:01.960 Daniel chapter 11 because remember the bear with the three ribs represents the Medo-Persian 00:05:01.960 --> 00:05:04.800 Empire or the great king of Persia. 00:05:04.800 --> 00:05:11.360 Look if you would at Daniel chapter 11 verse 1, actually let's go to verse 2 and now will 00:05:11.360 --> 00:05:19.720 I show thee, behold there shall stand up yet three kings in Persia and the fourth shall 00:05:19.720 --> 00:05:26.490 be far richer than they all and by his strength through his riches he shall stir up all against 00:05:26.490 --> 00:05:29.060 the realm of Grecia. 00:05:29.060 --> 00:05:35.140 Now chapter 11 is a continuation of chapter 10 and in chapter 10 verse 1 it says that 00:05:35.140 --> 00:05:38.910 this is happening in the third year of Cyrus, okay. 00:05:38.910 --> 00:05:43.300 So Daniel gets this vision in the third year of Cyrus that says that there are going to 00:05:43.300 --> 00:05:49.790 be three more kings in Persia, Cyrus being that first king of Persia, Cyrus the great, 00:05:49.790 --> 00:05:55.080 there are going to be three more kings in Persia after him, okay. 00:05:55.080 --> 00:06:00.170 And the fourth which is basically the three plus Cyrus makes the last of the three the 00:06:00.170 --> 00:06:05.520 fourth, that fourth king is going to be the greatest, most powerful one and he's going 00:06:05.520 --> 00:06:09.870 to be the one that stirs up all against the realm of Grisha. 00:06:09.870 --> 00:06:14.390 Well these are the three kings, if you study your Bible and if you look in Ezra, Nehemiah 00:06:14.390 --> 00:06:17.700 and Esther, you'll get the names of those three kings. 00:06:17.700 --> 00:06:23.570 Those three kings are named Artaxerxes, Darius and Ahasuerus. 00:06:23.570 --> 00:06:28.690 And if you remember in the book of Esther, Ahasuerus is the really rich, wealthy, super 00:06:28.690 --> 00:06:37.630 powerful king that reigns over everything from Ethiopia to India, 127 provinces, and 00:06:37.630 --> 00:06:41.150 it just goes on and on about his wealth and luxury. 00:06:41.150 --> 00:06:46.800 Well historically we know that Ahasuerus, who's also known as Xerxes, is the one who 00:06:46.800 --> 00:06:52.720 ended up invading Greece, and you've heard about the famous battles of Thermopylae and 00:06:52.720 --> 00:06:56.760 Athens and so forth, so that's the king that's being referred to. 00:06:56.760 --> 00:07:01.640 So it makes sense, if you go back to Daniel chapter 7, it makes perfect sense that this 00:07:01.640 --> 00:07:06.610 bear has three ribs in its mouth because that represents the three kings that are going 00:07:06.610 --> 00:07:10.960 to be coming that are mentioned in Daniel 11, if we just kind of let the book define 00:07:10.960 --> 00:07:12.040 itself. 00:07:12.040 --> 00:07:15.320 There are three future kings associated with Persia. 00:07:15.320 --> 00:07:17.600 Okay, let's go to the next beast. 00:07:17.600 --> 00:07:23.700 It says in verse number 6, "After this I beheld in low another like a leopard, which had upon 00:07:23.700 --> 00:07:30.060 the back of it four wings of a fowl, the beast had also four heads, and dominion was given 00:07:30.060 --> 00:07:31.040 to it." 00:07:31.040 --> 00:07:35.350 Now we know that the next great kingdom that came after the Medo-Persians, according to 00:07:35.350 --> 00:07:40.980 Daniel chapter 8 and the rest of the book of Daniel, is the kingdom of Grecia. 00:07:40.980 --> 00:07:44.130 Well let's see if this description fits that kingdom. 00:07:44.130 --> 00:07:46.510 First of all, it's symbolized by a leopard. 00:07:46.510 --> 00:07:50.160 Well what is a leopard known for more than anything else? 00:07:50.160 --> 00:07:52.550 It's known for its great speed, okay. 00:07:52.550 --> 00:07:58.950 Well, Alexander the Great was the one who conquered for the realm of Grecia, and Alexander 00:07:58.950 --> 00:08:01.660 the Great's army was known for its great speed. 00:08:01.660 --> 00:08:06.430 That's how it was able to be so effective, was that it moved in really fast. 00:08:06.430 --> 00:08:11.560 And in Daniel chapter 8, the king of Grecia is represented by a he goat, and it talks 00:08:11.560 --> 00:08:15.320 about that goat coming so fast that it doesn't even touch the ground. 00:08:15.320 --> 00:08:18.750 So whenever it talks about the Greek empire, it's always talking about the speed, whether 00:08:18.750 --> 00:08:21.230 it's a leopard or not touching the ground. 00:08:21.230 --> 00:08:27.910 This is because of the rapidity that Alexander the Great's armies had when they attacked. 00:08:27.910 --> 00:08:34.240 But then it talks about how this leopard-like beast has four wings and four heads. 00:08:34.240 --> 00:08:35.550 Why is that? 00:08:35.550 --> 00:08:39.270 Well, you'll notice that over and over again in the book of Daniel, the number four is 00:08:39.270 --> 00:08:44.720 going to come up in association with Greece, and here's why. 00:08:44.720 --> 00:08:50.990 Because Alexander the Great died as a very young man, and he died unexpectedly when he 00:08:50.990 --> 00:08:53.420 was only 32 years old. 00:08:53.420 --> 00:08:59.970 And so because he died young and unexpectedly, he hadn't really assigned an heir to take 00:08:59.970 --> 00:09:01.460 over for him when he was gone. 00:09:01.460 --> 00:09:04.580 Because when you're 32 years old, you don't really think that somebody else is going to 00:09:04.580 --> 00:09:08.170 necessarily need to take over, you're not necessarily thinking about those things. 00:09:08.170 --> 00:09:14.020 And so when Alexander the Great died, his kingdom was divided into four pieces. 00:09:14.020 --> 00:09:17.130 And Daniel brings that up repeatedly later in the book. 00:09:17.130 --> 00:09:22.990 So there were four of his generals that took over and they carved up the kingdom and it 00:09:22.990 --> 00:09:25.840 split into four kingdoms. 00:09:25.840 --> 00:09:30.840 And so that's why this leopard has four heads, because there are four different people that 00:09:30.840 --> 00:09:32.750 end up being in charge. 00:09:32.750 --> 00:09:38.210 You have the Seleucid Empire being the main one in the north, the Ptolemaic Empire is 00:09:38.210 --> 00:09:39.400 the main one in the south. 00:09:39.400 --> 00:09:41.870 But it was split into four pieces. 00:09:41.870 --> 00:09:43.660 And so we'll get into that in future lessons. 00:09:43.660 --> 00:09:46.450 I don't want to dwell on that for now. 00:09:46.450 --> 00:09:47.640 So that makes perfect sense. 00:09:47.640 --> 00:09:51.290 Then when we get to verse seven, it says, "After this I saw in the night visions, and 00:09:51.290 --> 00:09:56.210 behold, a fourth beast, dreadful and terrible and strong exceedingly. 00:09:56.210 --> 00:09:58.720 And it had great iron teeth. 00:09:58.720 --> 00:10:03.470 It devoured and break in pieces and stamped the residue with the feet of it, and it was 00:10:03.470 --> 00:10:09.470 diverse," meaning different, "from all the beasts that were before it, and it had ten 00:10:09.470 --> 00:10:10.580 horns." 00:10:10.580 --> 00:10:16.860 Now, this fourth kingdom that comes up is the Roman Empire that just crushed everything 00:10:16.860 --> 00:10:23.770 with an iron fist and defeated and took over the previous empires, and so those are the 00:10:23.770 --> 00:10:28.590 four kingdoms in succession, the same ones that we saw in Daniel chapter 2 with the great 00:10:28.590 --> 00:10:33.210 image, and if you've seen the film Babylon USA, you remember we talked a lot about this 00:10:33.210 --> 00:10:39.250 in that film as well, and then here we have the four beasts that represent those same 00:10:39.250 --> 00:10:40.240 four kingdoms. 00:10:40.240 --> 00:10:45.140 Now, if you remember, the image in Daniel chapter 2, it didn't just have those four 00:10:45.140 --> 00:10:49.330 main sections though, it didn't just have the golden head and then the silver and then 00:10:49.330 --> 00:10:54.570 the bronze, and then finally the iron, because at the bottom, if you remember, it had the 00:10:54.570 --> 00:11:01.840 feet that were of iron mingled with clay, the ten toes of Daniel, you might have heard. 00:11:01.840 --> 00:11:08.660 Well, in this scripture, instead of being the ten toes, we have ten horns, but it still 00:11:08.660 --> 00:11:14.600 is compatible with that same idea, and the ten toes of Daniel 2 and the ten horns of 00:11:14.600 --> 00:11:19.310 Daniel 7 here, according to Revelation, they represent ten kings, right, that we're going 00:11:19.310 --> 00:11:21.460 to see in the end times. 00:11:21.460 --> 00:11:26.260 So we have these four kingdoms that led up to the first coming of Jesus Christ, right? 00:11:26.260 --> 00:11:32.420 But then, there's also a foreshadowing of a great kingdom that's going to come up for 00:11:32.420 --> 00:11:37.860 the second coming of Jesus Christ, what we often call the New World Order, or a one world 00:11:37.860 --> 00:11:42.140 system that's going to be in place before Christ returns. 00:11:42.140 --> 00:11:48.190 Flip over just quickly to Revelation 13, Revelation chapter 13 just quickly, and we'll see that 00:11:48.190 --> 00:11:56.140 comparison with end times events, because certainly these things were relevant to Daniel's 00:11:56.140 --> 00:12:03.150 time and the time leading up to Christ's first coming, because they had to do with events 00:12:03.150 --> 00:12:09.550 that took place back then, the kings of Persia, Alexander the Great, his four generals and 00:12:09.550 --> 00:12:15.350 the kingdoms that they had, and then ultimately the Roman Empire taking control around 60 00:12:15.350 --> 00:12:20.120 BC before Jesus Christ was born. 00:12:20.120 --> 00:12:25.720 And so you have the Roman Empire taking control in preparation for the coming of Christ. 00:12:25.720 --> 00:12:31.130 The stage was set so that Christ came at the perfect time in history so that the gospel 00:12:31.130 --> 00:12:32.960 could be spread most effectively. 00:12:32.960 --> 00:12:39.710 Obviously God in His infinite wisdom chose to allow Jesus Christ to be born at that particular 00:12:39.710 --> 00:12:43.560 time. 00:12:43.560 --> 00:12:50.300 So in Revelation 13 though we have a future event because a lot of this like I said covered 00:12:50.300 --> 00:12:53.050 things that already happened in the past. 00:12:53.050 --> 00:12:57.750 But there's also a future fulfillment because when we go to Revelation 13 which is written 00:12:57.750 --> 00:13:01.850 after all those things happened we see a similar beast. 00:13:01.850 --> 00:13:06.300 Look at verse 1, "And I stood upon the sand of the sea and saw a beast rise up out of 00:13:06.300 --> 00:13:07.300 the sea." 00:13:07.300 --> 00:13:11.800 Now if you remember back in Daniel 7 all four of those beasts they arose out of the sea. 00:13:11.800 --> 00:13:17.690 Well this is an N times beast arising out of the sea and it says that he had seven heads 00:13:17.690 --> 00:13:25.530 and ten horns and upon the horns ten crowns, again the ten kings, and upon his heads the 00:13:25.530 --> 00:13:26.480 name of blasphemy. 00:13:26.480 --> 00:13:29.760 "And the beast which I saw was likened to a leopard." 00:13:29.760 --> 00:13:30.740 Does that sound familiar? 00:13:30.740 --> 00:13:34.370 "And his feet were as the feet of a bear." 00:13:34.370 --> 00:13:35.340 Does that sound familiar? 00:13:35.340 --> 00:13:39.270 "And his mouth was as the mouth of a lion." 00:13:39.270 --> 00:13:43.580 So it's the same beast just in the descending order, the opposite order. 00:13:43.580 --> 00:13:48.080 Instead of going lion, bear, leopard, it's going leopard, bear, lion. 00:13:48.080 --> 00:13:54.290 And then it says, "And the dragon gave him his power and his seat and great authority." 00:13:54.290 --> 00:14:01.840 So the devil is putting this king in power, this beast, this great empire is coming into 00:14:01.840 --> 00:14:06.770 play in the end times that's sort of a mixture of all of them. 00:14:06.770 --> 00:14:11.100 I believe that in the end times, this great one world system that the devil's going to 00:14:11.100 --> 00:14:18.450 put in place, it's going to have the power and the strength and the prestige of all four 00:14:18.450 --> 00:14:21.640 of those ancient kingdoms combined. 00:14:21.640 --> 00:14:26.360 I mean it's going to be greater than the Babylonian, Medo-Persian, Grecian, and Roman empires all 00:14:26.360 --> 00:14:27.340 combined. 00:14:27.340 --> 00:14:29.190 It's going to be super powerful. 00:14:29.190 --> 00:14:35.190 It's like a mixture of all those elements coming together in one beast, in one great 00:14:35.190 --> 00:14:38.190 empire of the end times. 00:14:38.190 --> 00:14:43.140 He talks about this beast in verse 5, "And there was given unto him a mouth, speaking 00:14:43.140 --> 00:14:48.980 great things and blasphemies, and power was given unto him to continue forty and two months." 00:14:48.980 --> 00:14:50.540 So I want you to remember that. 00:14:50.540 --> 00:14:57.120 This beast that arises, which is symbolic of a king and a kingdom, the Antichrist and 00:14:57.120 --> 00:15:01.860 his one world government, that's empowered by Satan. 00:15:01.860 --> 00:15:05.590 It says that he's given a mouth, speaking great things. 00:15:05.590 --> 00:15:07.170 Remember that. 00:15:07.170 --> 00:15:08.240 And blasphemies. 00:15:08.240 --> 00:15:10.290 And how long was he going to continue? 00:15:10.290 --> 00:15:13.460 For 42 months, right? 00:15:13.460 --> 00:15:15.290 And then if you would, go down to verse 7. 00:15:15.290 --> 00:15:19.850 It says it was given unto him to make war with the saints and to overcome them. 00:15:19.850 --> 00:15:24.260 And power was given him over all kindreds and tongues and nations. 00:15:24.260 --> 00:15:31.910 Let's back up to Daniel 7 now and see how this fits together. 00:15:31.910 --> 00:15:37.080 In Daniel chapter 7, it talked about how the fourth beast, the dreadful beast, the different 00:15:37.080 --> 00:15:43.460 beast, the divers beast, with the iron teeth, had ten horns, it says at the end of verse 00:15:43.460 --> 00:15:44.430 7. 00:15:44.430 --> 00:15:45.690 Well, look at verse 8. 00:15:45.690 --> 00:15:51.360 "I considered the horns, and behold, there came up among them another little horn," 00:15:51.360 --> 00:15:58.190 so this is not one of the ten horns, this is another horn, right, "another little horn 00:15:58.190 --> 00:16:03.640 before whom there were three of the first horns plucked up by the roots. 00:16:03.640 --> 00:16:09.160 And behold, in this horn were eyes like the eyes of a man," and watch this, "a mouth speaking 00:16:09.160 --> 00:16:10.150 great things." 00:16:10.150 --> 00:16:13.080 Now, does that sound familiar from Revelation 13? 00:16:13.080 --> 00:16:17.310 So this little horn of Daniel chapter 7 is the Antichrist. 00:16:17.310 --> 00:16:23.010 So the little horn who comes up among the ten horns, the ten horns are ten kings, he 00:16:23.010 --> 00:16:28.720 ends up subduing three of those kings and he has a mouth that speaks great things. 00:16:28.720 --> 00:16:34.010 We know from Revelation 13 they are great things and blasphemies, blaspheming the God 00:16:34.010 --> 00:16:36.310 of heaven and so forth. 00:16:36.310 --> 00:16:37.790 Let's keep reading. 00:16:37.790 --> 00:16:42.370 Verse 9, "I beheld till the thrones were cast down." 00:16:42.370 --> 00:16:43.420 What thrones?
