If you could open your Bibles with me and turn to Galatians chapter 5. 22:57.900 --> 23:05.400 Galatians 5 is our text this morning and as always here at our church we read the entire chapter before the preaching. 23:05.400 --> 23:13.400 Galatians chapter 5, the Bible reads... 23:14.100 --> 23:22.340 Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage 23:22.940 --> 23:26.700 Behold I Paul say unto you that if you be circumcised 23:27.180 --> 23:33.200 Christ shall profit you nothing for I testify again to every man that is circumcised 23:33.280 --> 23:36.140 That he is a debtor to do the whole law 23:36.900 --> 23:42.740 Christ has become of no effect unto you, whosoever of you are justified by the law, 23:42.740 --> 23:49.460 ye are fallen from grace. This one's a little bit different. They go and edit it 27:58.400 --> 28:00.040 So it's not the exact same sermon. 28:00.040 --> 28:02.620 So if you cheated and listened to the sermon early, 28:02.620 --> 28:04.180 you would notice a little bit of a difference, okay? 28:04.180 --> 28:07.800 But by and large, it's mostly the same sermon. 28:07.800 --> 28:10.240 But I have a lot of notes to get through in this sermon. 28:10.240 --> 28:11.820 So let's just jump right into it. 28:11.820 --> 28:14.080 In Galatians 5.13, I wanna give you the context 28:14.080 --> 28:16.560 because we're jumping into the middle of this passage 28:16.560 --> 28:17.760 here in verse 13. 28:17.760 --> 28:20.600 It says, for brethren, you've been called unto liberty, 28:20.600 --> 28:23.080 only use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, 28:23.080 --> 28:26.040 but by love serve one another. 28:26.040 --> 28:26.400 And the 28:26.400 --> 28:30.000 The first thing I want to draw your attention to this morning is what is it that we've been 28:30.000 --> 28:31.000 called on to? 28:31.000 --> 28:34.640 We've been called on to liberty, but liberty from what? 28:34.640 --> 28:38.160 Liberty from the bondage of the law is what he is talking about here. 28:38.160 --> 28:43.040 And go back one chapter, I just want to show you this really quickly, to Galatians 4 verse 28:43.040 --> 28:44.040 number 3. 28:44.040 --> 28:45.600 We've been delivered from the bondage of the law. 28:45.600 --> 28:47.760 We've been delivered from the bondage of our sin. 28:47.760 --> 28:50.820 We've been delivered from the bondage of our flesh this morning. 28:50.820 --> 28:52.300 This is what Paul is talking about. 28:52.300 --> 28:54.320 That is the liberty we've been called on to. 28:54.400 --> 29:00.640 in Galatians 4.3 it says, even so we when we were children were in bondage under the elements of 29:00.640 --> 29:06.400 the world. But when the fullness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son made of a woman, 29:06.400 --> 29:11.920 made under the law to redeem them that were under the law that we might receive the adoptions, 29:12.560 --> 29:18.640 the adoption of sons. So clearly the liberty as I've shown you right here is a liberty from 29:18.640 --> 29:22.320 the bondage of the law that Jesus Christ when he was 29:22.400 --> 29:27.440 made sin for us delivered us from sin and because he was made a curse for us he delivered 29:27.440 --> 29:32.280 us from the curse of the law is what the Bible teaches us in these verses and in all the 29:32.280 --> 29:36.800 punishments of the law. But I do want to say really quickly too and you guys can go back 29:36.800 --> 29:38.080 to Galatians 5 13. 29:38.400 --> 29:42.800 I do want to say quickly though that I think it's important to bring out always with this topic that 29:42.800 --> 29:47.440 we do not believe that the law is evil or anything like that though because God made the law. The 29:47.440 --> 29:52.240 Bible says in Romans that the law is holy and righteous and just. The reality is that there 29:52.240 --> 29:57.920 was never a problem with the law. The Bible tells us in Hebrews that the problem was always with us. 29:57.920 --> 30:03.920 We made ourselves enemies of the law but the law is not evil we just made ourselves enemies to it. 30:03.920 --> 30:05.920 It's very similar to how if a 30:06.400 --> 30:12.480 A person in our land, right, in Spokane or in Washington, whatever, broke the law of 30:12.480 --> 30:13.480 Washington. 30:13.480 --> 30:18.640 They've made themselves an enemy of the judge that would be presiding over Washington State, 30:18.640 --> 30:19.640 right? 30:19.640 --> 30:22.280 But the judge is an evil for executing the sentence against that person. 30:22.280 --> 30:24.320 He's holy and righteous and just. 30:24.320 --> 30:28.400 And the person is enemies with the judge because they're evil. 30:28.400 --> 30:29.200 That's the reality, yeah? 30:29.800 --> 30:38.800 So it's the same thing with us. We are contrary to the law. The law is contrary to us because we sin, because we fell short of the glory of God. 30:38.800 --> 30:42.800 But as I just said before, we've been redeemed from the law. 30:43.500 --> 30:50.780 And we're no longer under the bondage of the law, but we're redeemed not just to live however we want to very clearly 30:50.780 --> 30:56.620 We're redeemed to serve one another is what the Bible says because look there again at Galatians 5 verse number 13 30:56.620 --> 31:02.740 It says for brethren you've been called unto liberty only use not liberty for an occasion of the flesh 31:02.740 --> 31:09.940 But by love serve one another so we've been delivered from the bond of the law from the bond of our flesh from the bondage 31:09.940 --> 31:11.500 of our sins not just 31:11.500 --> 31:15.660 to do whatever we want to do. So this would be to the bane of all the fleshly, really 31:15.660 --> 31:20.060 worldly Christians out there. You're not just free in Christ to do whatever you want, bro. 31:20.060 --> 31:24.380 That's taking these out of these paths, this passage out of scripture or out of context. 31:24.380 --> 31:29.380 Good night. What the Bible is saying here is that we're free now from the bondage, from 31:29.380 --> 31:35.260 the bondage of our sins and from the law and from our flesh is what it's teaching us. Not 31:35.260 --> 31:39.420 just to do whatever we want to. Obviously you can still 31:39.500 --> 31:44.220 live a bad life and go to heaven, but God has called us unto liberty and that 31:44.220 --> 31:48.300 liberty is from the motions of this flesh is what I want to submit to you 31:48.300 --> 31:50.200 this morning. 31:50.400 --> 31:51.560 And someone might look at this and be like, 31:51.560 --> 31:52.760 well, wait a minute though. 31:52.760 --> 31:55.840 If Paul is saying that he were delivered from bondage, 31:55.840 --> 31:57.960 then why is he telling us in the same breath 31:57.960 --> 31:59.560 to serve one another? 31:59.560 --> 32:02.480 Because wouldn't that be bringing us back into bondage again? 32:02.480 --> 32:04.440 But the reality is that it's not so. 32:04.440 --> 32:05.920 Because the liberty that we've been called onto, 32:05.920 --> 32:07.480 I want to point this out to you this morning, 32:07.480 --> 32:10.120 is a liberty not just from, 32:10.120 --> 32:12.600 like we haven't been delivered to have no master. 32:12.600 --> 32:14.360 The liberty that we've been given by Jesus Christ 32:14.360 --> 32:17.640 is that we get to choose which master we are going to serve. 32:17.640 --> 32:18.400 And we can see... 32:18.400 --> 32:24.800 this go to Luke 16 verse number 13 if you would Luke 16 verse number 13 32:26.300 --> 32:29.980 We're not just free to just, you know, not have a master now. 32:29.980 --> 32:31.300 We just do our own thing. 32:31.300 --> 32:35.500 We have the freedom to choose which master we are going to serve. 32:35.500 --> 32:37.500 He tells us this in Luke 16, verse number 13. 32:37.500 --> 32:38.300 He says, 32:38.300 --> 32:40.300 Now no servant can serve two masters, 32:40.300 --> 32:42.800 for either he will hate the one and love the other, 32:42.800 --> 32:45.100 or else he will hold to the one and despise the other. 32:45.100 --> 32:47.900 You cannot serve God and mammon. 32:47.900 --> 32:49.300 So notice that the Bible says right here 32:49.300 --> 32:51.200 that you cannot serve two masters. 32:51.200 --> 32:53.500 You have to choose one or the other. 32:53.500 --> 32:54.300 But if you don't 32:54.300 --> 32:58.980 God does he just say you don't have a master in this context no who do you 32:58.980 --> 33:02.260 who would your master be it be mammon right which would be like the lust of 33:02.260 --> 33:05.820 money and all these kind of things okay and if you don't want to if you want if 33:05.820 --> 33:08.980 you say I'm not really a materialistic person money doesn't really do it for me 33:08.980 --> 33:12.580 but you could just substitute anything else it would be a desire of the flesh 33:12.580 --> 33:16.580 you could substitute that in for a for mammon so it could be the lust of your 33:16.580 --> 33:20.340 eyes or just whatever but why I'm bringing this all up is because I want 33:20.340 --> 33:22.300 you to stand this morning is that you 33:22.300 --> 33:27.900 are serving someone or something as what these verses are teaching us. That there 33:27.900 --> 33:33.540 is no such thing as being masterless. You are subject, you are servant to someone 33:33.540 --> 33:37.460 or something this morning and the liberty that we've been called unto as 33:37.460 --> 33:41.940 Christians is that we get to choose who our master is. That once Jesus Christ 33:41.940 --> 33:46.780 gave us his Holy Spirit we now have the opportunity, we have the choice to walk 33:46.780 --> 33:49.460 in the Spirit and to serve Jesus Christ as our master. 33:49.460 --> 33:50.300 Whereas 33:50.300 --> 33:54.100 before we were constrained to just doing the lusts of the flesh. 33:54.100 --> 33:58.640 That's why if you remember, I forget what exactly this word is, but he says that when we were in the flesh, 33:58.640 --> 34:00.300 we walked in the motions of the flesh. 34:00.300 --> 34:03.740 It's just like, you're not like a robot, I don't want to say that, but it's just like, 34:03.740 --> 34:07.060 you're just doing whatever your flesh wants to do before you're saved. 34:07.060 --> 34:11.800 But now that we have liberty in Jesus Christ, we can choose who we want to serve. 34:11.800 --> 34:18.300 We can choose to go back into bondage in our flesh, or we can choose to serve God Almighty and to walk in the Spirit. 34:18.300 --> 34:24.540 But go if you would to 2nd Corinthians 3 verse number 17, 2nd Corinthians 3 verse number 17 34:25.200 --> 34:28.880 Because some people will probably be like, nah, I just don't have any master. 34:28.880 --> 34:30.240 I just do whatever I want. 34:30.240 --> 34:31.360 But wouldn't you like to think so? 34:31.360 --> 34:32.800 Because it's just not true. 34:32.800 --> 34:37.280 Because any area of your life, you're going to be serving someone or something. 34:37.280 --> 34:39.440 Because if you were to, like, just to use like a worldly example, 34:39.440 --> 34:44.320 if you're going to be like, hey, I'm not going to be under the bondage of keeping a budget. 34:44.320 --> 34:50.720 I'm not going to, restricting my spending, counting pennies, doing the spreadsheets. 34:50.720 --> 34:52.960 I'm not going to subject myself to the bondage of that. 34:53.200 --> 34:56.400 I'm just gonna spend my money on whatever I want to. 34:56.400 --> 34:58.640 People be like, oh, they're free in that scenario. 34:58.640 --> 34:59.480 But are they? 34:59.480 --> 35:01.160 They're not, who are they a servant to in that scenario? 35:01.160 --> 35:02.880 They're a servant to the lust of their flesh. 35:02.880 --> 35:04.160 They're a servant to the mammon. 35:04.160 --> 35:06.240 They're a servant to whatever their body, 35:06.240 --> 35:07.440 their flesh craves. 35:07.440 --> 35:09.820 They're not controlling themselves. 35:10.500 --> 35:13.380 And the same thing would be true with a diet. 35:13.380 --> 35:15.580 I don't want to be under the bondage of a diet. 35:15.580 --> 35:20.020 The excruciating torture of diet and exercise. 35:20.020 --> 35:22.060 So I'm just going to eat whatever I want. 35:22.060 --> 35:23.780 I'm just going to do whatever I want. 35:23.780 --> 35:24.380 But guess what? 35:24.380 --> 35:25.300 You're still not free. 35:25.300 --> 35:27.340 You are subject to your flesh still. 35:27.340 --> 35:30.500 You're just subject to the motions of your flesh, 35:30.500 --> 35:31.900 is what I'm pointing out to you. 35:31.900 --> 35:34.780 And so what Jesus Christ has delivered us from 35:34.780 --> 35:37.300 is from just being in the motions of our flesh. 35:37.300 --> 35:38.380 Now we have the choice. 35:38.500 --> 35:43.700 to walk in the spirit, whereas before we were just subject to doing whatever our flesh wanted 35:43.700 --> 35:44.700 to do. 35:44.700 --> 35:46.500 But here's what I also want you to understand about this as well, because you guys are there 35:46.500 --> 35:51.660 in 2 Corinthians 3, 17, is that we as humans are not just flesh. 35:51.660 --> 35:55.700 It's important to realize that when God made us, He made us a living spirit. 35:55.700 --> 35:57.200 Isn't that what He says with Adam? 35:57.200 --> 36:00.980 He formed us out of the dust of the earth and then He breathed His spirit into Adam 36:00.980 --> 36:03.020 and it says that He became a quickening spirit. 36:03.020 --> 36:06.380 A living spirit is what Adam became. 36:06.500 --> 36:11.500 So why I'm bringing this up though is because why we're in bondage when we sin is this, 36:11.500 --> 36:16.660 is the day that we sinned against God with understanding, with knowledge, Paul says sin 36:16.660 --> 36:18.460 revived and I died. 36:18.460 --> 36:21.180 So this day that we sinned against God, our spirit died. 36:21.700 --> 36:27.700 And at that point, we were no longer in a, you didn't have a choice to just try to serve God in the spirit. 36:27.700 --> 36:34.100 Your spirit's dead is what it said. You have to walk in the flesh. You have to walk in the motions of the flesh. 36:34.100 --> 36:39.100 But what Jesus Christ did is he gave us his Holy Spirit. And what does the Bible say there in 2 Corinthians 17? 36:39.100 --> 36:44.600 It says, and the Lord is that spirit and where the spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. 36:44.600 --> 36:49.700 So now we have liberty through the Holy Spirit, through our Lord Jesus Christ who delivered us from the 36:49.700 --> 36:55.140 bondage of sin. But still understand as I've been saying all this and a matter of fact 36:55.140 --> 36:58.500 go back to Galatians 5 and just keep your finger there the whole time. I apologize I 36:58.500 --> 37:01.320 said that earlier but keep your finger there the whole time because we're going to be going 37:01.320 --> 37:03.840 back and forth to Galatians 5. 37:04.400 --> 37:08.720 I want you to understand that with all this, even when we have Jesus Christ as our Savior though, 37:08.720 --> 37:13.200 it's not like we're masterless. Again, Jesus Christ is still our Master. So again, notice that 37:13.200 --> 37:18.560 the liberty is not to just do whatever you want to do. It's the liberty to no longer walk in your 37:18.560 --> 37:24.400 flesh, but to serve Jesus Christ. I kind of beat that to death. But so what Paul is saying here 37:24.400 --> 37:28.560 in Galatians 5 then is that the liberty we have is not to just do whatever we want to do. We have a 37:28.560 --> 37:31.680 liberty to serve Jesus Christ and what he said in that passage. 37:32.400 --> 37:34.960 to serve our fellow man, is what he also says. 37:34.960 --> 37:36.240 Because before we were saved, 37:36.240 --> 37:38.320 we could only do the desires of our flesh. 37:38.320 --> 37:42.240 But here Paul encourages us not to go back into bondage 37:42.240 --> 37:44.100 after we've been delivered from bondage, 37:44.100 --> 37:46.320 but to walk in the spiritual, walk in the freedom, 37:46.320 --> 37:49.760 to walk in the liberty that you've been delivered unto. 37:49.760 --> 37:51.720 And because I want you to understand too, 37:51.720 --> 37:56.720 going back to the flesh is not you like controlling yourself. 37:56.800 --> 37:58.760 That's just you going back into bondage. 37:58.760 --> 38:00.400 Like the example when I was typing the sermon, 38:00.400 --> 38:03.880 thought about it. It's like going back into Egypt with the children of Israel. 38:03.880 --> 38:08.240 Think about it, he delivers them from bondage and then he's like, hey don't go 38:08.240 --> 38:09.500 back to Egypt. 38:09.900 --> 38:12.700 Why? Because if they went back to Egypt, they'd be back in bondage, right? 38:12.700 --> 38:17.500 So the picture there is this, is that once God delivers us out of the bondage of our flesh, 38:17.500 --> 38:19.300 we should not go back into it. 38:19.300 --> 38:23.100 So if you just, as a Christian, decide not to live according to God's law, 38:23.100 --> 38:25.300 according to His principles, you're not free. 38:25.300 --> 38:27.000 You're just putting yourself back in prison. 38:27.000 --> 38:28.400 You're putting yourself back in bondage. 38:28.400 --> 38:31.800 You're putting yourself back in chains for no reason, because the door's open. 38:31.800 --> 38:33.900 But you're still just like locking yourself in there like, 38:33.900 --> 38:35.800 I'm just gonna chill out in here, okay? 38:35.800 --> 38:37.800 Like, you're making yourself a prisoner. 38:37.900 --> 38:39.180 what it would be then, okay? 38:39.180 --> 38:42.380 Now obviously, besides the bondage of the law, 38:42.380 --> 38:44.920 we also have liberty in this sense, 38:44.920 --> 38:46.780 that we don't have to keep the cardinal ordinances 38:46.780 --> 38:48.320 to be saved, we obviously understand that, 38:48.320 --> 38:49.420 we don't have to keep the cardinal ordinances 38:49.420 --> 38:52.660 of the law at all, and we don't have to keep the law 38:52.660 --> 38:54.420 for our salvation. 38:54.600 --> 38:57.160 But we're free from bondage now. 38:57.160 --> 38:58.840 Galatians 5.13, read it with me one more time, 38:58.840 --> 39:02.200 because now we're free to serve Christ and to serve one another. 39:02.200 --> 39:04.360 It says, for brethren, you've been called into liberty. 39:04.360 --> 39:09.000 Only use not liberty for an occasion of the flesh, but by love serve one another. 39:09.560 --> 39:17.000 For all the law is to fill then one word, even this, thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. 39:17.000 --> 39:18.440 I thought this was kind of a cool side note. 39:18.440 --> 39:22.440 If you guys are familiar with the book of Galatians, which I'm sure you are, that's 39:22.600 --> 39:27.760 In the beginning of Galatians Paul is really ripping these people a new one because they're obsessed with 39:28.280 --> 39:36.120 Trying to serve the law they're obsessed with trying to keep all the ordinances the Old Testament ordinances of the law and even 39:36.120 --> 39:40.920 Says to him like hey, I'm afraid of you guys you guys are observing days and months and times and years 39:40.920 --> 39:45.480 He's like he's like listening to you that say that you want to be under the law. Don't you hear what the law says? 39:46.100 --> 39:51.520 Then right here though why I'm bringing that up is because interesting is that he says the laws fulfilled in one word even this 39:51.620 --> 39:55.260 Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. So I think 39:55.860 --> 39:57.880 Paul's I don't know if you'd say like kind of cheek here 39:57.880 --> 40:00.820 But it does kind of seem like it that it's like they bring up he brings up them 40:01.140 --> 40:07.980 Wanting to fulfill the law by keeping those Old Testament customs and Paul's like hey if you guys want to keep the law so bad 40:08.100 --> 40:14.040 Don't worry about keeping the cardinal ordinances because that's not how you fulfill the law. How do you fulfill the law according to Paul? 40:14.100 --> 40:18.580 right here by one saying, thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. 40:18.580 --> 40:21.700 He's like, if you want to keep the law so bad, keep that part of the law, 40:21.700 --> 40:23.900 because that's the fulfillment of the law. 40:23.900 --> 40:27.580 Because keeping the carnal ordinances that could never make us perfect, 40:27.580 --> 40:31.580 and observing days and months and times and years, that's not fulfilling the law. 40:31.580 --> 40:35.700 Those things are done away with in Jesus Christ, is what the Bible teaches us. 40:35.700 --> 40:36.200 But. 40:36.600 --> 40:37.880 This is what some people need to hear as well. 40:37.880 --> 40:40.200 Go to Galatians 3 verse number 1. 40:40.200 --> 40:44.560 Galatians 3 verse number 1. 40:44.560 --> 40:46.320 This is what so many work salvations, 40:46.320 --> 40:47.440 is what I should say, need to hear. 40:47.440 --> 40:49.780 That you can't even keep the law of God 40:49.780 --> 40:51.320 until you're saved in the first place. 40:51.320 --> 40:54.520 So work salvation completely just debunks itself. 40:54.520 --> 40:56.560 Like, this is what we're going to see in these passages. 40:56.560 --> 40:58.360 It's unbelievable that people think, 40:58.360 --> 41:00.400 and the people at this church obviously thought, 41:00.400 --> 41:02.280 that they could make themselves perfect. 41:03.300 --> 41:06.820 in their flesh is what he says in Galatians chapter number two or maybe it's Galatians 41:06.820 --> 41:10.980 chapter number three that he says that but he says if you were gun in faith are you going to be made 41:10.980 --> 41:15.460 perfect now in the flesh he's like absolutely not but the point i'm bringing up with this is this 41:15.460 --> 41:20.580 is that not only do you start out in faith you stay in faith and you could have never got yourself 41:20.580 --> 41:25.460 saved by just your flesh this is very evident in the bible that's where you guys are in uh uh 41:25.460 --> 41:30.340 Galatians 3 1 i'll read for you guys Romans 3 31 okay it says this do we then make void the law 41:30.340 --> 41:31.300 through faith, God... 41:31.300 --> 41:33.940 God forbid, yea, we establish the law. 41:33.940 --> 41:39.340 So Paul isn't teaching the Galatians here that they should just disobey the law of God 41:39.340 --> 41:42.460 and just never follow any of his commandments besides the ones obviously they're done away 41:42.460 --> 41:44.500 with, right, the carnal ordinances. 41:44.500 --> 41:47.860 What he's teaching them is the same thing that we teach you while soul-warning is that 41:47.860 --> 41:52.440 trying to keep the law in order to be saved is impossible. 41:52.440 --> 41:55.460 Because I'm saying to you, it's impossible for many reasons, but because if you send 41:55.460 --> 41:57.620 one time, you're a transfer to the law. 41:57.620 --> 41:59.300 But it's also impossible because you need the whole 41:59.300 --> 42:04.660 Spirit to fulfill the laws that we're gonna see in these passages but we don't 42:04.660 --> 42:09.380 just like throw out the law once we believe on Jesus Christ the Bible says 42:09.380 --> 42:12.740 here that we establish it which like what does that look like like think 42:12.740 --> 42:15.300 about this when we are we're also one with people we tell them all the time 42:15.300 --> 42:19.740 like hey we this is our big fight with people be like if you robbed a bank but 42:19.740 --> 42:23.000 you believe in Jesus Christ where would you go when you go when you die 42:23.100 --> 42:28.460 to heaven right if you did something worse like you killed yourself god forbid you know and you 42:28.460 --> 42:32.940 believed on jesus christ where would you go when you die to heaven right and then at the end of 42:32.940 --> 42:35.740 presentation after we pray with them if they believe on jesus christ right at the very end 42:35.740 --> 42:40.380 of it we'll be like okay now we know that we told you that you could technically do all these things 42:40.380 --> 42:42.600 and still go to heaven but now 42:42.700 --> 42:44.580 don't do any of those things, right? 42:44.580 --> 42:47.300 Why? Not for salvation, but because after faith, 42:47.300 --> 42:49.180 that's when we establish the law. 42:49.180 --> 42:51.100 Once you believe on Jesus Christ, 42:51.100 --> 42:53.100 that's when you can keep the law. 42:53.100 --> 42:54.820 That's why it's a fool's errand to think 42:54.820 --> 42:57.860 that you could ever get yourself saved by the law 42:57.860 --> 42:59.220 is what he's teaching in these passages. 42:59.220 --> 43:00.660 This is where you guys are at in Galatians 3. 43:00.660 --> 43:01.500 When he says, 43:01.500 --> 43:04.340 Oh foolish Galatians, who hath bewitched you 43:04.340 --> 43:05.420 that you should not obey the truth 43:05.420 --> 43:07.580 before whose eyes Jesus Christ has been evidently set forth 43:07.580 --> 43:08.820 crucified among you. 43:08.820 --> 43:10.500 This only what I learn of you. 43:10.700 --> 43:14.700 received you the Spirit by the works of the law or by the hearing of faith? 43:14.700 --> 43:15.500 What's the answer to that? 43:15.600 --> 43:22.360 Clearly faith right he says are you so foolish having begun the spirit are you now made perfect by the flesh? 43:22.500 --> 43:28.160 You cannot make yourself perfect by the flesh you can't even make yourself perfect by the flesh after after faith 43:28.240 --> 43:33.320 Let alone before you have faith in the first place right he says are you so foolish you think that you get saved? 43:33.840 --> 43:40.520 Initially by faith on Jesus Christ, and then you have to keep yourself saved. That's nonsense. That's stupidity 43:40.520 --> 43:43.580 That's the opposite of what Paul is teaching the Bible. He said 43:43.600 --> 43:47.940 You don't just start off in faith you stay in faith to say to be safe 43:47.940 --> 43:54.580 It's not just like oh, I initially get myself saved and then if I don't follow these claimants, I lose my salvation 43:54.640 --> 43:59.680 That's still your flesh saving you not so though in the sight of God. No deeds of the law 44:00.060 --> 44:03.520 That's the the deeds of law cannot justify us what Bible teaches us 44:04.360 --> 44:06.880 You guys are there in relations go to Romans 8 3. Okay, this last place 44:06.880 --> 44:10.000 I'm gonna have you turn until I have you turn back to Galatians Romans 8 44:10.700 --> 44:26.700 Verse number three. I'm making a big point about this. I mean, I think I people need to hear this kind of stuff though that like they really think that they could keep themselves saved or get themselves saved by following the law of their own accord and they're out of their mind. 44:26.700 --> 44:31.700 You have to have the Holy Spirit of God to even walk in the Spirit of God in the first place. 44:31.700 --> 44:33.700 Romans eight verse number three. 44:34.400 --> 44:36.240 The Bible says this, it's echoing the same idea. 44:36.240 --> 44:38.560 It says, for what the law could not do, 44:38.560 --> 44:40.000 in that it was weak through the flesh, 44:40.000 --> 44:42.960 God sending his own son in the likeness of sinful flesh, 44:42.960 --> 44:46.000 and for sin, condemns sin in the flesh. 44:46.000 --> 44:48.560 That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, 44:48.560 --> 44:51.840 who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. 44:51.840 --> 44:53.120 Notice right there that last phrase, 44:53.120 --> 44:54.960 who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. 44:54.960 --> 44:56.480 If we're gonna fulfill the law at all, 44:56.480 --> 44:58.080 it's gonna be in the Spirit, okay? 44:58.080 --> 44:59.680 And when do you get the Holy Spirit? 44:59.680 --> 45:02.080 The news flashed, it's after you're saved, right? 45:02.300 --> 45:03.300 Why am I bringing this all up though? 45:03.300 --> 45:06.780 Isn't this kind of like a, it's seemingly like a long rabbit trail. 45:06.780 --> 45:10.260 It's because I want you to understand what Paul is saying in Galatians 5, that now that 45:10.260 --> 45:16.020 he says that we're delivered out of the bondage of the law, we are free to serve God and we're 45:16.020 --> 45:19.920 free to serve God and that we don't have to keep the carnal ordinances which you could 45:19.920 --> 45:26.700 never get us saved, but we're free to serve God, Jesus Christ and one another now fully 45:26.700 --> 45:29.340 that we actually have faith in Jesus Christ. 45:29.340 --> 45:30.300 Okay? 45:30.300 --> 45:34.380 teaching here. Looking verse number 14 of this, okay? Because I want to point out to you, 45:35.340 --> 45:39.020 if this is what helps us to keep the law, right? Loving our neighbor as ourselves, 45:39.020 --> 45:42.300 then what is the opposite of this? What would hinder us from keeping the law? Look what he 45:42.300 --> 45:45.900 says in verse 14. He says, for all the laws fulfill the one saying, even this, 45:45.900 --> 45:47.660 thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. 45:48.400 --> 45:55.120 But if ye bite and devour one another, take heed that ye be not consumed one of another." 45:55.120 --> 46:00.240 So what Paul is saying right here is that keeping the law is fulfilled in one saying. 46:00.700 --> 46:02.700 Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. 46:02.700 --> 46:04.060 What is the opposite of that? 46:04.060 --> 46:05.420 What is the hindrance of that? 46:05.420 --> 46:09.380 What would be the exact opposite of walking in the Spirit 46:09.380 --> 46:11.420 out of loving your neighbor as yourself? 46:11.420 --> 46:13.220 Be devouring each other, right? 46:13.220 --> 46:15.660 Biting each other, consuming each other 46:15.660 --> 46:17.580 is what he says right here. 46:17.580 --> 46:19.380 And who is he applying this to? 46:19.380 --> 46:22.780 Is Paul applying this to devouring unsafe people? 46:23.000 --> 46:30.840 He's not talking about that. He's talking about devouring your brothers and sisters in Christ very clearly in this passage. 46:30.840 --> 46:36.040 And so what you should take from these verses is this, is that if you're seeking to destroy your brother and sister in Christ, 46:36.040 --> 46:42.120 if you're seeking to devour your brother and sister in Christ, if you're seeking to tear down your brother or sister in Christ, 46:42.120 --> 46:48.840 you are not fulfilling the law, you're not walking in the Spirit, you are walking in the flesh is what he's teaching us right here. 46:48.840 --> 46:51.000 And if that's not true, then why would you do that? 46:51.000 --> 46:53.120 would Paul put this right after that verse? 46:53.120 --> 46:55.120 He's like, hey, the whole law's for the one saying, 46:55.120 --> 46:56.440 thou shalt love thy neighbor thyself. 46:56.440 --> 46:57.700 And then immediately he says. 46:57.900 --> 47:02.700 But take heed that you don't, if you bind devour one another, that you be not consumed one another. 47:02.700 --> 47:07.260 You know why? Because you can't love your neighbor as yourself if you're devouring him. 47:07.260 --> 47:11.420 You can't love your neighbor as yourself if you're consuming him. You can't love your neighbor as 47:11.420 --> 47:16.620 yourself if you're actively seeking to destroy them, is what I want to show you from these verses. 47:16.620 --> 47:21.340 This is the point that Paul is getting to right here. And I want you to stop and think about this 47:21.340 --> 47:25.740 commandment for a second, the gravity of it. How like, how like wonderful it is. 47:25.900 --> 47:30.900 is and how mighty it is, Paul says the whole entire law, 47:30.900 --> 47:34.140 every commandment that you could see from the Old Testament 47:34.140 --> 47:37.660 to the New Testament, is fulfilled in one saying. 47:37.660 --> 47:38.260 What is it? 47:38.500 --> 47:40.740 Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. 47:40.740 --> 47:42.820 He doesn't even put loving God 47:42.820 --> 47:43.780 with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength, 47:43.780 --> 47:46.100 which obviously is like these two are like 47:46.100 --> 47:48.180 right next to each other, right, in terms of commandments. 47:48.180 --> 47:50.140 But I want you to see how powerful it is 47:50.140 --> 47:53.180 that Paul can boil down all of these things 47:53.180 --> 47:54.820 to just this one saying. 47:54.820 --> 47:57.860 Just this one saying, every commandment that you see 47:57.860 --> 47:59.380 in the Bible can be boiled down 47:59.380 --> 48:01.340 to loving your neighbor as yourself. 48:01.340 --> 48:03.140 And if you love your neighbor as yourself, 48:03.140 --> 48:05.340 you are fulfilling the whole law of God, 48:05.340 --> 48:06.500 is what he's teaching us here. 48:06.500 --> 48:14.900 And if you can't understand the gravity of that even more, understand that even Jesus Christ himself says that on these two commandments hang the law on the prophets. 48:14.900 --> 48:18.600 Loving God with all your heart, soul, mind and strength and loving your neighbor as yourself. 48:18.600 --> 48:21.800 He says these are the two greatest commandments that they are. 48:21.800 --> 48:30.200 These are what the Bible hangs on is what he says are those two commandments and everything descends from those two things. 48:30.800 --> 48:35.860 But so what I want to submit to you and you guys are go to first John 4 verse number 20 real quick 48:44.900 --> 48:52.400 What I want to submit to you is that if you're seeking or wanting or desiring to destroy your brother or sister in Christ, 48:52.400 --> 48:56.100 you are not walking in the Spirit, you are walking in the flesh, 48:56.100 --> 49:02.500 and you are doing the opposite of the second chiefest commandment that there is in the Bible, 49:02.500 --> 49:04.400 loving your neighbor as yourself. 49:04.400 --> 49:07.600 And there's multiple examples I could show you this in the Bible as you're going to 1 John, 49:07.600 --> 49:10.700 but the clearest one is just David and Saul. 49:10.700 --> 49:12.900 Think about how well these two... 49:12.900 --> 49:15.900 represent walking in the spirit versus walking in the flesh. 49:15.900 --> 49:20.380 You have King Saul, whose life is centered around nothing 49:20.380 --> 49:22.000 but destroying David. 49:22.100 --> 49:24.100 Is he walking in the spirit or is he walking in the flesh? 49:24.100 --> 49:26.100 Walking in the flesh, right? 49:26.100 --> 49:30.100 And his whole mindset is just to destroy another brother in Christ. Isn't that insane? 49:30.100 --> 49:35.100 But then you have David, who not only does not want to kill Saul, 49:35.100 --> 49:41.100 he doesn't even want to kill Saul, but he just outright refuses to raise his hand against King Saul. 49:41.100 --> 49:43.100 What is this an example of? 49:43.100 --> 49:45.100 Of one of these men are walking completely in the flesh, 49:45.100 --> 49:49.100 and another one of these men are walking completely in the spirit. 49:49.100 --> 49:50.100 They're walking according to the spirit. 49:50.100 --> 49:51.960 to these principles that we see right here, 49:51.960 --> 49:53.520 even without them being written. 49:53.520 --> 49:54.360 Because this is what I'm gonna submit to you 49:54.360 --> 49:55.980 later on in the sermon, I'm kinda getting ahead of myself, 49:55.980 --> 49:57.140 but I wanna submit to you this, 49:57.140 --> 49:59.240 that when you are walking in the Spirit, 49:59.240 --> 50:02.520 the need for the letter of the law is not even, 50:02.520 --> 50:04.240 is not even 100% necessary, 50:04.240 --> 50:07.540 because you're just naturally doing what's good 50:07.540 --> 50:09.920 according to the righteousness of the law. 50:09.920 --> 50:11.560 I mean, think about it, when he says the law's written, 50:11.560 --> 50:13.200 not for godly men, but for who? 50:13.200 --> 50:14.920 For the unrighteous, for sinners. 50:14.920 --> 50:16.240 That's what the law's written for, 50:16.240 --> 50:18.100 but when you're walking in the Spirit, you're gonna... 50:18.100 --> 50:21.380 to be naturally doing the things of the law without even looking at the commandments of 50:21.380 --> 50:25.700 God. If you're actually walking spiritually minded is what I'm going to submit to you 50:25.700 --> 50:29.900 later on. So this is what I'd say to you though, if your main ministry... 50:30.500 --> 50:33.700 Trying to tear someone down trying to tear down a brother or sister in Christ 50:33.940 --> 50:38.260 How could you think that God's pleased with that isn't that insane how if your whole? 50:38.700 --> 50:42.580 like like prerogative when you wake up in the morning the like what you 50:42.740 --> 50:47.740 Focus your mind on is how to cause someone else to fall how to tear down a brother in Christ 50:47.740 --> 50:49.380 How did the power of brother Christ? 50:49.380 --> 50:54.340 How could you honestly even think that you're walking in the spirit when you have verses like this in the Bible? 50:54.340 --> 50:58.500 But this is this is why people think like this. There's like a disconnect amongst Christian 50:58.500 --> 51:11.500 where they think that like loving God is in like one compartment and then loving your neighbors yourself is like in another and they think that it's possible to love God with all their heart soul mind strength while they're despising their neighbor. 51:11.500 --> 51:21.500 But let me tell you these things are not so that's why I have you guys there in first John because what does he say he says if a man say I love God and hated his brother. 51:21.500 --> 51:25.980 He is a liar for he have he that love is not his brother who may have seen 51:26.500 --> 51:28.300 How can he love God whom he's not seen? 51:28.300 --> 51:30.280 And this is the command that we have from him, 51:30.280 --> 51:34.760 that he who loveth God loveth, or love his brother also. 51:34.760 --> 51:37.360 Paul's saying right here, or John is saying right here, 51:37.360 --> 51:40.040 that if you wanna love God, here's what you need to do first. 51:40.040 --> 51:42.220 You need to love your brother and sister in Christ. 51:42.220 --> 51:44.400 And if you think that you love God 51:44.400 --> 51:47.300 while you despise your brother and sister in Christ, 51:47.300 --> 51:49.020 you're a liar, is what he says. 51:49.020 --> 51:51.700 How can you love God who you cannot even see 51:51.700 --> 51:53.540 when you can't even show love to someone 51:53.540 --> 51:54.500 that's in the same room? 51:54.500 --> 51:56.420 is you is what John is saying right here. 51:56.420 --> 51:58.240 How could you try to say that you love God 51:58.240 --> 52:00.200 while you despise his children? 52:00.200 --> 52:01.380 Doesn't make any sense. 52:01.380 --> 52:03.620 How can you say that you're walking in the spirit 52:03.620 --> 52:05.240 when you're trying to devour your brothers 52:05.240 --> 52:07.340 and sisters in Christ according to flesh? 52:07.340 --> 52:09.540 It's not of God, it's not of the spirit. 52:09.540 --> 52:13.700 It is 100% of the flesh to want to consume 52:13.700 --> 52:16.680 and bite and devour people is what I wanna show you. 52:16.680 --> 52:18.540 And I'm talking about the disconnect 52:18.540 --> 52:19.880 that there is amongst Christians. 52:19.880 --> 52:22.500 There's really people that will go to church. 52:22.500 --> 52:26.300 and think that they're righteous and think that they're holy and think that 52:26.300 --> 52:30.180 they're just and they'll go and they'll sing the praises to God they'll sing the 52:30.180 --> 52:35.100 hymns to God with their mouth and then with that same mouth minutes later 52:35.100 --> 52:39.580 they'll go and try to destroy and consume and slander and lie about a 52:39.580 --> 52:42.400 brother or sister of Christ that's in the same room as them. 52:42.600 --> 52:47.800 How could people think that you're walking in the spirit when you're doing things like this? 52:47.800 --> 52:49.400 This disconnect, that's why. 52:49.400 --> 52:54.800 But what I want you to do is reconnect these things and realize that how much you love your brother or sister in Christ 52:54.800 --> 52:58.400 is a direct sign of how much you love God Almighty. 52:58.400 --> 53:00.000 That's what he's saying in these verses. 53:00.000 --> 53:04.800 And someone that wants to consume their brother is walking in the flesh. 53:04.800 --> 53:09.600 Go back to Galatians 5 verse number 15. Galatians 5 verse number 15. 53:10.400 --> 53:15.900 Because John also says, and later on in John, that if you hate your brother, you're a murderer in your heart. 53:15.900 --> 53:19.400 And he says you're like Cain that slew his brother Abel, is what he says. 53:19.400 --> 53:22.400 So how grave of a sin is it to hate your brother in Christ? 53:22.600 --> 53:26.520 And so if you think that you're spiritual, if you think that you're righteous, and you 53:26.520 --> 53:30.920 think that you're holy while you want to consume someone else that's in the same room as you, 53:30.920 --> 53:34.360 or you want to consume another Christian that's out there, you better think again, 53:34.360 --> 53:39.320 is what you should realize from these verses. You're deceiving yourself is what John says, 53:39.320 --> 53:43.960 because you cannot love God unless you love your brother or sister in Christ. 53:44.300 --> 53:47.260 Or at least just not despise and not hate them, okay? 53:47.260 --> 53:49.340 Because I'm sure, this is what I would submit to you, okay? 53:49.340 --> 53:51.180 And I probably submitted this idea before. 53:51.180 --> 53:53.100 It's like, I'm not saying that you have to get along 53:53.100 --> 53:54.380 with everybody that's a brother or sister in Christ, 53:54.380 --> 53:55.980 but you should not despise someone 53:55.980 --> 53:57.420 that's a brother or sister in Christ. 53:57.420 --> 53:59.740 You shouldn't, you don't have to be besties with everybody. 53:59.740 --> 54:00.860 You're not gonna be besties with everybody. 54:00.860 --> 54:01.980 It's not possible, okay? 54:01.980 --> 54:03.500 That's not what God expects from us either. 54:03.500 --> 54:05.100 But you know what God does expect? 54:05.100 --> 54:07.980 For you to love your brother and sister in Christ. 54:07.980 --> 54:10.060 Even if it's with an overarching love, okay? 54:10.060 --> 54:12.140 Even when there's like a deep seed of love. 54:12.300 --> 54:15.700 can't see on the surface okay seriously though like you should not despise your 54:15.700 --> 54:20.660 brother or sister in Christ what he's saying in these verses and if you 54:20.660 --> 54:26.620 are you need to get your heart and check because this is not walking in the 54:26.620 --> 54:32.600 spirit it is walking in the flesh you guys are there in Galatians 5 verse 54:32.900 --> 54:39.140 Number 15, because I'm sure people play war games with that as well. Be like, well, I'm not trying to I don't hate my brother 54:39.140 --> 54:42.980 I'm just I'm just trying to devour him but it's like but dude if you're trying to devour your brother 54:42.980 --> 54:45.100 Then you hate your brother. Okay from these verses again 54:45.100 --> 54:48.420 So you have to like the word games are bizarre 54:48.420 --> 54:53.220 Like if you're seeking to consume someone then how can you not say that you hate that person? 54:53.220 --> 54:56.540 It's very bizarre or at least you're getting on the border of it is what I'd say at the very least 54:57.200 --> 55:01.160 Galatians 515 it says but if you bite and devour one another take heed that you can be not consumed one another 55:01.400 --> 55:06.580 This I say then walk in the spirit and ye shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh 55:06.580 --> 55:09.680 So how do we avoid the loss of the flesh? 55:09.680 --> 55:16.520 It is to walk in the spirit is what he says how we avoid consuming one another devouring each other. It's by walking in the spirit 55:16.900 --> 55:18.300 But what does it mean to walk in the spirit? 55:18.300 --> 55:21.020 Because this is why I titled this sermon the way I did 55:21.020 --> 55:23.460 and why I wanted to preach this sermon in the first place. 55:23.460 --> 55:25.180 Because sometimes when you bring up, 55:25.180 --> 55:26.780 if I were to ask someone, like, what does it 55:26.780 --> 55:28.100 mean to walk in the spirit? 55:28.100 --> 55:30.300 They'll just say, to walk in the spirit 55:30.300 --> 55:33.180 just means to not fulfill the lust of the flesh. 55:33.180 --> 55:36.220 But that doesn't make sense with this verse, though, OK? 55:36.220 --> 55:38.820 Because he's saying, walk in the spirit 55:38.820 --> 55:41.100 so that you don't fulfill the lust of the flesh. 55:41.100 --> 55:42.600 If you take that interpretation, it'd 55:42.600 --> 55:44.440 be like saying, don't fulfill the lust of the flesh. 55:44.440 --> 55:44.500 you 55:44.600 --> 55:46.160 so that you don't fulfill the lust of the flesh. 55:46.160 --> 55:47.800 It doesn't make any sense, right? 55:47.800 --> 55:50.400 So walking in the Spirit is not just not fulfilling 55:50.400 --> 55:53.200 the lust of the flesh, though, listen what I say though, 55:53.200 --> 55:55.720 if you are walking in the Spirit, clearly from this verse, 55:55.720 --> 55:58.840 you will not fulfill the lust of the flesh. 55:58.840 --> 56:01.320 But what does it mean to be walking in the Spirit then? 56:01.320 --> 56:04.440 It means to be spiritual minded is what it means, okay? 56:04.440 --> 56:06.600 Go to Romans 8 verse number one, 56:06.600 --> 56:08.400 Romans 8 verse number one real quick. 56:13.900 --> 56:19.580 To be spiritually minded is not just to not fulfill the lust of the flesh, though if you 56:19.580 --> 56:22.380 are spiritually minded and if you're walking the Spirit, you will not fulfill the lust of the flesh, 56:22.380 --> 56:25.260 okay? But these things are not just a one-for-one with each other. 56:25.700 --> 56:33.700 being spiritual minded is thinking about spiritual things and being focused on spiritual things and doing things according to 56:34.020 --> 56:36.220 both the kingdom of heaven and 56:36.580 --> 56:41.480 According to what benefits your fellow man is what I'd submit to you that definition is but look what it says in Romans 8 56:41.480 --> 56:46.760 1 it says there is therefore now no condemnation of them which are in Christ Jesus who walked not after the flesh 56:46.760 --> 56:51.980 But after the spirit and then jump down to verse 5 it says for they that are after the flesh do mind things the flesh 56:51.980 --> 56:53.700 But they that are after the spirit 56:54.000 --> 57:00.000 the things of the spirit for to be carnally minded is death but to be spiritually minded is life and 57:00.000 --> 57:05.200 peace so i i think someone could also take from these verses maybe they could think like walking 57:05.200 --> 57:09.440 in the spirit just means to obey the law of god but i would also submit to you that that's not 57:09.440 --> 57:13.840 exactly what it means to walk in the spirit though i would also push back and say again though to be 57:13.840 --> 57:18.720 clear that if you are walking in the spirit you are going to be fulfilling the law of god there's 57:18.720 --> 57:21.920 there's no you can't be like walking in the spirit but also breaking the laws 57:22.000 --> 57:23.600 at the same time, that's not true. 57:23.600 --> 57:26.040 But what I'm saying is walking in the spirit 57:26.040 --> 57:29.800 is not just synonymous with keeping the law of God, 57:29.800 --> 57:32.280 it is to be spiritually minded. 57:32.280 --> 57:33.640 And when I say spiritual minded again, 57:33.640 --> 57:35.880 what I mean is this, is having your focus 57:35.880 --> 57:38.140 on the kingdom of heaven and having your focus 57:38.140 --> 57:40.880 on your brothers and your sisters in Christ around you, 57:40.880 --> 57:42.360 this is what it means to be spiritual minded. 57:42.360 --> 57:44.880 Or for the loss that are around you as well, okay? 57:44.880 --> 57:46.480 This is what it means to be spiritual minded. 57:46.480 --> 57:47.800 Thinking about what would be best, 57:47.800 --> 57:50.000 not just for yourself, but what's best. 57:50.000 --> 57:54.360 for everything concerning the kingdom of God's sake is what I'd submit to you is what it 57:54.360 --> 57:59.380 means to be spiritual minded and to be walking in the spirit because think about how much 57:59.380 --> 58:03.580 sense this makes okay if you're thinking about what's best for the kingdom of God and you're 58:03.580 --> 58:08.040 thinking about what's best for your fellow man you're naturally going to be keeping the 58:08.040 --> 58:10.640 law of God aren't you because what is the fulfilling the law 58:11.400 --> 58:13.000 loving your neighbor as yourself, right? 58:13.000 --> 58:14.960 So if you're naturally, you know, 58:14.960 --> 58:16.880 if you're thinking about what's best for the kingdom of God 58:16.880 --> 58:18.720 and you're thinking about what's best for your fellow man, 58:18.720 --> 58:21.560 you're naturally gonna be keeping the law of God. 58:21.560 --> 58:23.080 And you're naturally not gonna be giving it 58:23.080 --> 58:24.480 to the lust of your flesh, 58:24.480 --> 58:27.080 because the lust of your flesh are contrary 58:27.080 --> 58:29.320 to loving your neighbor as yourself. 58:29.320 --> 58:31.440 And that's obviously established in the fact that 58:31.440 --> 58:33.000 if the fulfilling of the law 58:33.000 --> 58:34.480 is loving your neighbor as yourself, 58:34.480 --> 58:35.680 then the opposite of that would be 58:35.680 --> 58:38.280 to be indulging in your flesh, right? 58:38.280 --> 58:39.400 Indulging in whatever. 58:39.400 --> 58:46.360 Benefits you okay like just the best example that it's like if you're spiritually minded you wouldn't murder your brother or sister in Christ because I 58:46.540 --> 58:50.780 Mean that's just wicked as hell first of all but then second of all for like even in like a 58:51.300 --> 58:55.900 I don't know we say logistic standards like if you're killing someone that's on your own side for God's team 58:56.060 --> 59:00.940 Then that would be hindering the kingdom God as well and also it's just an abomination obviously of course 59:00.940 --> 59:06.100 I don't want to dump like that, but it's just like I'm trying to show you there that you why would you want to murder someone? 59:06.100 --> 59:07.400 That's a brother in Christ though 59:07.400 --> 59:09.360 it'd be because of something in your flesh, right? 59:09.360 --> 59:13.340 Because maybe someone is envious like Cain was of Abel, 59:13.340 --> 59:15.800 or maybe because someone made you really mad, 59:15.800 --> 59:20.220 or maybe because someone did whatever, okay? 59:20.220 --> 59:22.740 There's a lot of different things you could point that to. 59:22.740 --> 59:24.160 But what I'm trying to show you though is this, 59:24.160 --> 59:26.500 is that when you're walking in the spirit then... 59:26.900 --> 59:32.980 you're going to be keeping the moral commandments of God without force, not by like someone 59:32.980 --> 59:40.180 forcing you at gunpoint, or not with like you being like being forced to do so, but out of 59:40.180 --> 59:43.700 the natural love for your heart for God and for your fellow man, okay? 59:43.900 --> 59:47.580 But if you're walking in the flesh, you're gonna be doing what's best according to your own flesh. 59:47.580 --> 59:49.020 Just whatever makes you happy. 59:49.020 --> 59:51.020 Like, you can think about this lots of different ways. 59:51.020 --> 59:55.500 Like, oh, you know what? I don't feel like going soul hunting, so I'm just not gonna go soul hunting. 59:55.500 --> 59:58.700 It's like, who does that benefit? That's what it really is. It's just you making yourself 01:00:14.980 --> 01:00:19.900 the most important person, your flesh the most important person in reality. Same 01:00:19.900 --> 01:00:23.300 thing is true of church. Why wouldn't you want to come to church? There's not 01:00:23.300 --> 01:00:27.700 going to be a spiritual reason for it like I would say like 99% of time, right? 01:00:27.700 --> 01:00:30.260 But there's not going to be a spiritual reason for it. It's going to be because 01:00:30.260 --> 01:00:33.420 you didn't feel like getting up. You didn't feel like coming to the house of 01:00:33.420 --> 01:00:38.180 God. You were tired because you did this and you did that but would the 01:00:38.180 --> 01:00:39.900 God you take the focus off just you? 01:00:39.900 --> 01:00:44.660 and you'd be spiritually minded and you think about the fact that the fulfilling of the law is 01:00:45.020 --> 01:00:49.780 Loving your neighbor as yourself putting your neighbors needs above your own needs 01:00:49.780 --> 01:00:53.640 Which means doing what you don't want to do when you don't want to do it sometimes 01:00:53.820 --> 01:00:58.840 Which means pushing yourself and saying hey, even though it's hard to do this good work right now 01:00:58.840 --> 01:01:00.180 I'm gonna do it anyways 01:01:00.180 --> 01:01:06.200 Not just for myself but for the kingdom of God and for my fellow man that that is walking in the spirit 01:01:06.200 --> 01:01:07.900 That is being spiritually minded 01:01:07.900 --> 01:01:14.340 I want to submit to you and the the reason why we don't do those things is because of the lusts of our flesh 01:01:14.340 --> 01:01:20.220 This is the reality. Okay, same thing with even Bible reading. It's like I don't feel like reading my Bible 01:01:20.220 --> 01:01:22.100 Why because your flesh is tired, right? 01:01:22.100 --> 01:01:25.900 Because the Bible says study this is a weariness to the flesh right studying is a weariness to the flesh 01:01:26.260 --> 01:01:29.540 So when you don't want to do the things that you're supposed to 01:01:30.380 --> 01:01:35.900 Part of walking in the spirit is doing them anyways because of course, this is what we're gonna see these experts looking for this 01:01:35.900 --> 01:01:39.900 says in verse 17 it says for the flesh lusts against the spirit and the spirit 01:01:39.900 --> 01:01:43.100 against the flesh and these are contrary the one to the other so that you cannot 01:01:43.100 --> 01:01:46.760 do the things that you would but if you be led of the spirit you're not under 01:01:46.760 --> 01:01:50.720 the law the reality is is that the flesh is contrary to the spirit and the spirit 01:01:50.720 --> 01:01:54.760 of the flesh so when you're walking in one of them you're not going to be doing 01:01:54.760 --> 01:01:59.420 the other okay so when you're only thinking about yourself of course you're 01:01:59.420 --> 01:02:02.360 not going to be doing spiritual things it's going to be whatever pleases your 01:02:02.360 --> 01:02:03.900 flesh doing the 01:02:03.900 --> 01:02:08.300 the hobbies you want to do, doing the video games you want to do, doing the sports you want to do, 01:02:08.300 --> 01:02:13.660 watching whatever you want to do. It just, it just, it all boils down to this. It just boils down to 01:02:13.660 --> 01:02:19.500 you is the reality and what your flesh wants to do. But as Christians again, this is what I, 01:02:19.500 --> 01:02:21.500 because I was, this is how I was going to tie this all together. 01:02:22.000 --> 01:02:26.560 That as I said earlier when you go back to just doing whatever your flesh wants to do 01:02:26.600 --> 01:02:34.140 You're putting yourself back in bondage that that is literally literally what God delivered you from the people of this world 01:02:34.140 --> 01:02:37.860 Just do whatever they want to do because they're of the flesh because they don't have the spirit 01:02:37.860 --> 01:02:44.380 But Paul says he's given us liberty not just to do whatever our flesh wants to do.
