I have four points to preach this sermon and they 06:16.520 --> 06:20.000 are all found in Proverbs 30 verses 11 through 14. 06:20.600 --> 06:29.180 And I'm preaching this because we're in a generation where a lot of these, all four 06:29.180 --> 06:32.260 of these things are very pertinent to our generation right now. 06:32.260 --> 06:38.120 And the phrase, there's a generation is repeated four times as written by the writer of this 06:38.120 --> 06:43.540 proverb and it serves as a prophetic mirror looking down the corridors of time. 06:43.540 --> 06:47.480 I'm sure we found there's been other generations that you could say this about. 06:47.480 --> 06:48.600 But definitely this generation. 06:48.600 --> 06:53.440 generation, these things can be summed up in the generation that we're in right now. 06:53.440 --> 07:00.180 And this sermon is going to examine these four distinct spiritual and moral characteristics 07:00.180 --> 07:07.680 of a wicked and adulterous and backslidden culture, and this should warn believers to 07:07.680 --> 07:13.400 stand firm against the spirit of this generation, which has become very wicked. 07:13.400 --> 07:16.600 And point number one is the generation of... 07:16.600 --> 07:24.320 We live in a society of rebellion and in our country, I mean it's kind of based upon rebellion 07:24.320 --> 07:29.900 really but I don't want to get into politics at all but we do kind of live in a rebellious 07:29.900 --> 07:30.900 generation. 07:30.900 --> 07:34.280 Let's look down at our Bible at verse number 11 in Proverbs 30. 07:34.280 --> 07:40.520 It says, There is a generation that curseth their father and doth not bless their mother. 07:40.520 --> 07:44.600 Now today more than ever you find these, you find where 07:44.600 --> 07:49.680 where children don't care much about the connection with their parents and there's 07:49.680 --> 07:50.680 a culture where 07:50.680 --> 07:50.900 you 07:50.900 --> 07:56.100 It's where, and this is something that's kind of up and coming with this generation 07:56.100 --> 08:00.500 where they try, where children want to disconnect with their parents and don't want to have 08:00.500 --> 08:03.060 anything to do with them anymore. 08:03.060 --> 08:06.580 And I forget exactly what the term is called. 08:06.580 --> 08:08.860 I, it's escaping me right now. 08:08.860 --> 08:14.180 But it's basically where there's little or very little contact with their parents if 08:14.180 --> 08:18.820 they feel like that there's some sort of toxicity within the family structure. 08:18.900 --> 08:23.700 I'll grant you this, that as a Christian we should not allow our children to be around 08:23.700 --> 08:27.300 someone who's going to try to corrupt them or say, hey, when you're 18, you know, you 08:27.300 --> 08:29.420 don't have to go to church anymore and all this other stuff. 08:29.420 --> 08:30.500 Look, I get that. 08:30.500 --> 08:34.060 You don't want your children to be around some sort of corrupting influence in your 08:34.060 --> 08:35.060 life. 08:35.060 --> 08:41.100 And obviously, you know, Jesus said that he came not to bring peace but a sword, and you 08:41.100 --> 08:43.460 know, he came to bring division. 08:43.460 --> 08:46.900 And so there is a natural dividing that takes place within family. 08:46.900 --> 08:47.300 Please. 08:47.400 --> 08:52.760 within friendships when you get saved those things happen naturally they happen and we 08:52.760 --> 08:56.760 shouldn't resist those things because sometimes it's the best thing to do is to have those things 08:56.760 --> 09:00.920 divide i'm not talking about christians though i'm talking about people who are not christians 09:00.920 --> 09:06.680 trying to uh alienate their their family members because they're they have some kind of woke 09:07.480 --> 09:12.120 mentality where they think that they their parents have nothing to add to their relationship 09:12.680 --> 09:15.240 and and it's kind of funny because children think that 09:15.400 --> 09:17.700 like their parents forgot how to raise children or something. 09:17.700 --> 09:19.300 They have nothing to add. 09:19.300 --> 09:20.660 Like they don't know how to change diapers. 09:20.660 --> 09:23.020 They forgot how to get children to sleep at night. 09:23.020 --> 09:27.980 They don't know how to give certain remedies to help them sleep and all this other stuff. 09:27.980 --> 09:32.260 Like we just, you know, somehow we raised you and you're still alive, but we don't 09:32.260 --> 09:35.980 know, we don't have anything to add to your life whatsoever. 09:35.980 --> 09:43.380 And it's just a weird thing in our culture today where you see this disconnection with 09:43.400 --> 09:47.780 children and parents. The Bible says in Exodus chapter 20 verse 12, honor thy 09:47.780 --> 09:52.440 father and mother that thy days may be long upon the land which the Lord thy 09:52.440 --> 09:59.240 God giveth thee. I mean the Bible's written to 10:54.960 --> 11:02.000 Christians in case you didn't realize that. I mean why is it warning Christians in what we think 11:02.000 --> 11:06.560 that this is just a warning against for secular people? No this is a warning to Christians that 11:06.560 --> 11:11.040 this will happen in Christian homes. This will happen to Christians. Let's go ahead and turn to 11:11.040 --> 11:15.520 Proverbs keep your finger here because we're going to come back to Proverbs chapter 30 but let's go 11:15.520 --> 11:18.000 Let's go to Proverbs chapter 20 verse 20. 11:18.000 --> 11:21.440 chapter 20, verse 20. And there's no verse that says, 11:21.440 --> 11:24.140 parents honor your children and the Lord for this is right. 11:24.140 --> 11:27.300 And look, I'm not saying that we shouldn't love our children. 11:27.300 --> 11:29.040 Of course we should love our children. I'm not saying we 11:29.040 --> 11:30.640 shouldn't raise our children right. Of course we should 11:30.640 --> 11:32.780 raise our children right. Of course we should love them. 11:32.780 --> 11:36.280 But there's no commandment in the Bible that we're supposed 11:36.280 --> 11:41.420 to honor our children. It's actually the opposite. 11:41.420 --> 11:43.420 The children are supposed to honor their father and mother. 11:44.000 --> 11:49.680 And the Bible talks about how if you don't love your brother that you can't see, how 11:49.680 --> 11:53.160 can you love God whom you have not seen? 11:53.160 --> 11:58.980 So God kind of gives us family and shows us, gives us the family structure so that we can 11:58.980 --> 12:01.560 kind of see how we should treat God. 12:01.560 --> 12:06.200 And if you don't treat your own family members good, how can you say that you love God when 12:06.200 --> 12:08.000 you can't even treat your own family members good? 12:08.000 --> 12:11.720 If you can't treat your own parents good, how can you say that you love God? 12:12.200 --> 12:15.800 And look, look, the exception proves the rule. 12:15.800 --> 12:18.200 Sometimes there are very wicked parents. 12:18.200 --> 12:19.760 And yes, there are certain instances 12:19.760 --> 12:21.360 where parents are so bad that you 12:21.360 --> 12:22.800 would want to stay away from them. 12:22.800 --> 12:23.720 I get that. 12:23.720 --> 12:25.400 But it doesn't mean you dishonor them. 12:25.400 --> 12:27.840 Doesn't mean that you have to come out and make 12:27.840 --> 12:31.920 some kind of big indictment against them or something. 12:31.920 --> 12:34.640 Obviously, God does not want you doing that. 12:34.640 --> 12:36.440 So let's see. 12:36.800 --> 12:39.040 You're in Proverbs chapter 20 verse 20 it says, 12:39.040 --> 12:41.560 who so curseth his father or his mother, 12:41.560 --> 12:45.760 his lamp shall be put out in obscure darkness. 12:45.760 --> 12:46.640 Now I don't know about you, 12:46.640 --> 12:49.320 but I don't like being in obscure darkness. 12:49.320 --> 12:52.280 I mean, nothing is worse than being out camping 12:52.280 --> 12:54.700 somewhere out in the woods where you have no light. 12:54.900 --> 12:56.900 and that your flashlight's like, oh no, 12:56.900 --> 12:59.180 it's the batteries are going out, 12:59.180 --> 13:01.980 or the charge is gone. 13:01.980 --> 13:04.460 And I've told this story before, 13:04.460 --> 13:09.180 but we were hunting a buck one time that we had shot, 13:09.180 --> 13:10.700 and we were trying to track it, 13:10.700 --> 13:15.560 because you track a deer that you shoot by the blood trail. 13:15.560 --> 13:18.060 Well, we were tracking this buck that we had shot. 13:18.060 --> 13:20.300 I was probably, I don't know, nine, 10 years old. 13:20.500 --> 13:23.620 And we could hear coyotes just howling all around us. 13:23.620 --> 13:26.580 We could see the eyes when we'd shine the flashlight. 13:26.580 --> 13:28.740 We could see them, but they'd never get close enough, 13:28.740 --> 13:31.380 obviously, so that we could shoot them or anything like that. 13:31.380 --> 13:35.380 But every time I saw my stepdad would shine the light, 13:35.380 --> 13:39.580 you could see coyotes' eyes circling around us 13:39.580 --> 13:41.220 as far as you could see. 13:41.220 --> 13:44.100 And I was just thinking, if we didn't have any light 13:44.100 --> 13:45.900 whatsoever, these dogs would be on us. 13:45.900 --> 13:46.200 who are going to be there to 13:47.360 --> 13:46.200 help for you. 13:47.980 --> 13:46.200 We're going to have a lot of 13:48.660 --> 13:46.200 good stuff that you can't 13:49.760 --> 13:46.200 miss. 13:50.780 --> 13:46.200 We're going to have a lot of 13:51.620 --> 13:46.200 good stuff that you can't 13:52.180 --> 13:46.200 miss. 13:46.400 --> 13:52.640 like white on rice. I mean, it was scary as a kid to see that. But in the, but because you can see 13:52.640 --> 13:58.880 their eyes shine from the lights shining upon them. But I mean, to be in obscure darkness with a pack 13:58.880 --> 14:02.800 of coyotes like that, I mean, we never did find the deer. So obviously they dragged that thing off 14:02.800 --> 14:07.280 and ate it or something. But that was a, that was a big animal for them to drag off. So I'm sure they 14:07.280 --> 14:14.240 could drag off little nine-year-old me at that time. I wasn't always the size I am now. So, but 14:14.400 --> 14:18.200 But yeah, I mean the Bible says if you curse your mother and father, your lamp will be 14:18.200 --> 14:19.200 put out in obscure darkness. 14:19.200 --> 14:20.680 That doesn't sound very good, does it? 14:20.680 --> 14:24.320 It sounds like God is not pleased with somebody that would do something like that. 14:24.320 --> 14:27.160 They would curse their own parents like that. 14:27.160 --> 14:33.400 Matthew 15, 4 says, for God commanded, saying, honor thy father and mother, and he that curseth 14:33.400 --> 14:35.920 father or mother, let him die the death. 14:36.300 --> 14:42.900 People get this idea that Jesus is buddy Jesus, peaceful Jesus, hippie Jesus, dress wearing 14:42.900 --> 14:46.500 Jesus, long-haired hippie Jesus, but this isn't the case. 14:46.500 --> 14:48.740 He's not smiling Jesus all the time. 14:48.740 --> 14:51.620 You know, Jesus said, let them die the death. 14:51.620 --> 14:53.620 I mean, He's the one that came up with the rules. 14:53.620 --> 14:55.440 He is God manifested in the flesh. 14:55.440 --> 14:59.420 He is no different than the Old Testament God. 14:59.420 --> 15:00.420 He never changes. 15:00.420 --> 15:00.600 Amen. 15:00.800 --> 15:06.480 You know, yesterday, today, and forever, He has not changed. 15:06.480 --> 15:11.080 And just because He has grace and He loves us and He's long-suffering, it doesn't mean 15:11.080 --> 15:14.920 that there isn't a point that He doesn't want to go past. 15:14.920 --> 15:19.760 And we don't want to put God in a position where He wants to pour His wrath upon us or 15:19.760 --> 15:22.320 that He wants to punish us in this way. 15:22.320 --> 15:27.480 So when it says, he that curseth father or mother, let him die the death. 15:27.900 --> 15:29.900 Jesus is saying that he's okay with that 15:30.420 --> 15:34.460 Isn't it isn't that what he's saying like why would you want to tempt God to? 15:35.220 --> 15:41.540 Have you want to be put to death? I'm not saying that like look our human government would never do this 15:42.300 --> 15:47.980 that we're past that point now. The laws of Connecticut in the 1600s are no longer in effect 15:47.980 --> 15:52.060 in this country. The laws and the charters that were put forth from the Mayflower 15:52.780 --> 15:58.220 and the first settlers of this country are no longer in effect. Connecticut is about one of 15:58.220 --> 16:03.340 the most liberal hellholes that you'll find in this country nowadays, but the laws that used to 16:03.340 --> 16:08.060 be put in effect were biblical laws. You could just take the laws straight from the Bible, 16:08.060 --> 16:10.060 and they were put right into the laws of 16:10.300 --> 16:14.620 the land at that time. It's a fact, just go look it up, you can read, you can get the 16:14.620 --> 16:23.980 book, the laws of Connecticut, so from the 1600s. So anyway, but yeah, Jesus is not different 16:23.980 --> 16:28.500 in the New Testament when it comes to these things. Look at Matthew chapter 10 verse 21, 16:28.500 --> 16:35.420 Matthew chapter 10 verse number 21. So people kind of get this idea, like I said, that Jesus 16:35.420 --> 16:36.820 This is different in the New Testament. 16:37.500 --> 16:44.700 And he went after the Pharisees over stuff like this, saying that the Pharisees were saying, 16:44.700 --> 16:49.020 well, if you just give a gift, then you can get out of having to take care of your parents when 16:49.020 --> 16:55.900 you're older. And it was called giving korban or whatever. And he said, what is more sanctified, 16:55.900 --> 16:59.180 the gift or the altar that sanctified the gift? 16:59.700 --> 17:07.700 And he's basically saying that you're making the law of God of none effect with your man-made traditions. 17:07.700 --> 17:16.700 And so he's saying, no, giving a gift at the altar is not going to absolve you of your duties to take care of your parents. 17:16.700 --> 17:19.700 That's rebellion. That's wickedness. 17:19.700 --> 17:22.700 And rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft. 17:22.800 --> 17:26.560 the Bible says. Look at Matthew chapter 10 verse 21 it says, 17:26.560 --> 17:32.480 And the brother shall deliver up the brother to death, and the father the child, and the children 17:32.480 --> 17:36.720 shall rise up against their parents and cause them to be put to death. 17:37.000 --> 17:41.960 So Jesus already knows what's in the heart of certain generations. There's going to be a 17:41.960 --> 17:46.680 generation that comes, it's going to be worse than all generations. But we're just gearing up to that 17:46.680 --> 17:52.440 now. I mean you can see it in the society that we live in today. It's just getting worse and worse. 17:52.600 --> 17:57.080 It's like you'll see like kind of a lull in things and things seem like they're, you know, 17:57.080 --> 18:00.020 they're going more to the right and we're like, oh yeah, this is kind of cool. 18:00.020 --> 18:04.000 But then it's just like all this crazy news hits and you're like, what in the world is 18:04.000 --> 18:05.000 wrong with people? 18:05.000 --> 18:07.600 Like how and how do people think this way? 18:07.600 --> 18:11.760 Well, it's because society and this generation is becoming more wicked. 18:11.760 --> 18:15.160 Every single generation, it just gets worse. 18:15.160 --> 18:20.240 Matthew 10 35 says, for I'm come to set a man at variance against his father and the 18:20.240 --> 18:20.600 The dog. 18:20.600 --> 18:24.600 against her mother and the daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law." 18:24.600 --> 18:26.960 You're like, well, why would Jesus do that? 18:26.960 --> 18:28.960 Well, He's not intentionally doing that. 18:28.960 --> 18:35.520 It's just that Jesus Christ is the great divider because, look, if you love God, there's people 18:35.520 --> 18:38.960 that are going to hate you because you love God. 18:38.960 --> 18:43.060 And so when you are Christ and you belong to Christ, that is going to make people hate 18:43.060 --> 18:45.120 you because they hate Christ. 18:45.500 --> 18:49.180 and they don't want anything to do with Christ, so they don't want anything to do with you, 18:49.180 --> 18:53.420 because you shine that light of Christ and they don't want to see that light. 18:53.420 --> 18:56.860 Men love darkness rather than light because their deeds are evil, 18:56.860 --> 19:00.540 and so they don't want to see that light. I mean how many times have you gone and knocked on a door 26:48.880 --> 26:56.560 and I'm good. I'm good. Good. No, you're not good. You're not even saved, homie. You're not saved. 26:56.560 --> 27:02.880 How are you good? The Bible says there's none good, no not one. How are you good? What do you mean 27:02.880 --> 27:10.160 you're good? No, you're not good. You need to get saved. You're not good at all. You're a hypocrite. 27:10.160 --> 27:11.760 You're a holier than now. 27:12.200 --> 27:15.900 So the Bible says in Proverbs 16 verse 2 it says, 27:15.900 --> 27:20.200 all the ways of man are clean in his own eyes, 27:20.200 --> 27:23.600 but the Lord weith the spirits. 27:23.600 --> 27:27.500 See, and everybody, every man thinks, you know, 27:27.500 --> 27:30.900 every man proclaimeth his own goodness. 27:30.900 --> 27:35.100 And again, I've said this before and I'll say it again many times, 27:35.100 --> 27:37.500 it bears repeating that 27:37.700 --> 27:41.140 The number one answer that we get at the door when we knock on the door and we say, 27:41.140 --> 27:45.060 how do you know you're going to heaven? And what do they say? Because I'm what? 27:46.260 --> 27:52.660 A good person. And they probably do believe that. But the Bible says most men will proclaim 27:52.660 --> 27:57.300 his own goodness. I mean, is the Bible true or is it not? That means, you know, like we would call it in our modern lingo, having a big head. 31:02.700 --> 31:04.700 But isn't that what being puffed up is? 31:05.000 --> 31:08.480 So, you get puffed up, you think that you know more than everybody else, and then you 31:08.480 --> 31:12.600 can start looking down on other people because you think you know more than they do. 31:12.600 --> 31:15.840 And you can be in danger of being a holier than now. 31:15.840 --> 31:22.920 Isaiah 65, 5 says, which say, Stand by thyself, come not near to me, for I am holier than 31:22.920 --> 31:24.180 now. 31:24.180 --> 31:29.320 These are a smoke in my nose, a fire that burneth all the day. 31:29.320 --> 31:30.300 So God's saying what? 31:31.000 --> 31:33.400 There's people out there that say, 31:33.400 --> 31:35.760 stand by thyself, don't come around me. 31:35.760 --> 31:37.000 I don't want you around me, 31:37.000 --> 31:39.560 because I'm holier than you are. 31:39.560 --> 31:41.900 That's where the term holier than out comes from. 31:41.900 --> 31:45.460 It's a very famous saying, people that aren't saved know this. 31:45.460 --> 31:47.660 They know, I mean, there's Metallica sings a song called, 31:47.660 --> 31:48.660 Holier Than Now. 31:48.660 --> 31:52.700 It's, you know, it's in society. 31:52.700 --> 31:57.380 People know, this is a very popular phrase that secular people know, 31:57.380 --> 32:01.700 that people that are not saved know, and they don't, 32:01.700 --> 32:03.380 but God doesn't like this. 32:03.700 --> 32:07.060 And he says, it's a smoke in my nose. 32:07.060 --> 32:10.340 Nobody likes to have smoke coming up their nose. 32:10.340 --> 32:13.220 It's an unfamiliar scent. 32:13.220 --> 32:17.100 I mean, some smoke smells good, but apparently not this stink. 32:17.100 --> 32:18.660 God doesn't like this kind of stink. 32:18.660 --> 32:20.020 It's like a campfire. 32:20.020 --> 32:22.660 And it burns all the day long in his nose 32:22.660 --> 32:25.340 when someone just acts like they're better than other people. 32:25.340 --> 32:26.500 And God doesn't like it. 32:26.500 --> 32:27.860 He doesn't like that attitude. 32:27.860 --> 32:29.600 He doesn't like the attitude where someone 32:29.600 --> 32:31.260 thinks they're better than other people. 32:31.260 --> 32:31.700 You're... 32:31.700 --> 32:33.340 Because what are you doing by doing that? 32:33.340 --> 32:36.460 You're judging that other person that you're better than them. 32:36.460 --> 32:38.220 And God doesn't like that either. 32:38.220 --> 32:43.960 So we're responsible for our own actions and every man must bear his own burdens. 32:43.960 --> 32:47.860 And so, you know, instead of just thinking that every sermon is about somebody else and 32:47.860 --> 32:51.620 that person should have been here to hear that, you should have been here to hear that. 32:51.620 --> 32:57.200 You should be applying these things to yourself and where you can fix yourself and fix your 32:57.200 --> 32:58.500 life instead of. 32:59.400 --> 33:06.040 you know thinking about other people all the time. Turn to John, 1 John chapter 1, 1 John chapter 1. 33:06.040 --> 33:12.520 How do we remedy this? How do we fix this in our life? Well we do have to be humble to a certain 33:12.520 --> 33:21.000 extent and we have to admit that we sin, you know, and God can fix us. If we have a, if we would judge 33:21.000 --> 33:25.480 ourselves the Bible says, you know, if we would judge ourselves then He would not judge us. 33:26.600 --> 33:32.760 When we know we've messed up, see David when he realized he's sinned he said, I have sinned. 33:32.760 --> 33:37.680 When Nathan the prophet said, thou art the man, he's like I have sinned. 33:37.680 --> 33:42.600 He didn't say, oh the people that you gave me, oh it's their fault, they're the ones 33:42.600 --> 33:43.600 that caused me to sin. 33:43.600 --> 33:45.160 That's what Saul said. 33:45.160 --> 33:48.720 And so why did God have mercy on David and not on Saul? 33:48.720 --> 33:50.500 Because Saul was making excuses. 33:50.500 --> 33:52.160 He was blaming the people. 33:52.160 --> 33:53.560 And David was like, no, it's me. 33:53.800 --> 34:00.040 You know, right away. So once he realized it was him, he took ownership and took accountability. 34:00.040 --> 34:03.640 We've got to take accountability for the things we do. 1 John 1-6 says, 34:03.640 --> 34:09.240 If we say that we have fellowship with Him and walk in darkness, we lie and do not the truth. 34:09.240 --> 34:14.280 But if we walk in the light, as He is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, 34:14.280 --> 34:18.760 and the blood of Jesus Christ, His Son, cleanseth us from all sin. 34:19.400 --> 34:24.840 If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. 34:24.840 --> 34:28.760 So look, we can't just walk around and act like we're better than everybody else because look, 34:28.760 --> 34:31.560 if you say you have no sin, you're deceiving yourself. 34:31.900 --> 34:36.300 And we don't like to look at ourselves in the mirror and see ourselves sometimes. 34:36.300 --> 34:40.460 We like to see what other people are doing and look down our nose at other people sometimes. 34:40.460 --> 34:43.100 It's a dangerous place. It's a dangerous game to play. 34:43.100 --> 34:47.820 It's a dangerous place to be because God doesn't like the holier than now attitude. 34:47.820 --> 34:52.220 He doesn't like it. And this generation loves to say that they're good people. 34:52.700 --> 34:59.100 and woe unto Christians, and woe unto us if we have the same attitude that other people have in this area 34:59.100 --> 35:02.860 where we're thinking we're better than everybody else. What's the remedy though? 35:02.860 --> 35:11.900 Well, if we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. 35:11.900 --> 35:17.820 But, I gotta turn here because I forgot to copy and paste this last verse in there. 35:17.820 --> 35:19.820 First John 1, 9. 35:22.600 --> 35:27.080 says, yeah, if we confess our sin, 35:27.080 --> 35:30.720 He is faithful and just to forgive us our sin 35:30.720 --> 35:34.520 and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 35:34.520 --> 35:36.840 I mean, there's the remedy right there. 35:36.840 --> 35:40.800 So we have to confess our sins, and He will cleanse us. 35:40.800 --> 35:43.080 It says, and this isn't talking about getting saved over 35:43.080 --> 35:44.160 and over again. 35:44.160 --> 35:46.280 This is what people think that aren't saved. 35:46.280 --> 35:48.040 They think, well, if I just. 35:48.400 --> 35:52.400 If I just confess my sin right before I die, then I'm going to get saved. 35:52.400 --> 35:56.400 It's like, no dude, that's not what this is talking about.
