WEBVTT

00:00.000 --> 00:25.840
Good evening.

00:25.840 --> 00:27.600
Good to see you this evening.

00:27.600 --> 00:31.680
Would you turn with me in your Bibles to the book of 1 Samuel?

00:31.680 --> 00:34.720
First Samuel chapter 12.

00:34.720 --> 00:36.040
Chapter 12?

00:36.040 --> 00:37.040
Good.

00:37.040 --> 00:38.040
Okay.

00:38.040 --> 00:42.720
First Samuel chapter 12.

00:42.720 --> 00:46.160
As is our custom, we'll read the entire chapter beginning in verse 1.

00:46.160 --> 00:50.160
First Samuel chapter 12.

00:50.160 --> 00:52.960
And in First Samuel chapter 12, the Bible reads,

00:52.960 --> 00:57.360
And Samuel said unto all Israel, Behold, I have hearkened unto your voice,

00:57.360 --> 01:00.920
And all that ye said unto me, And have made a king over you.

01:00.920 --> 01:04.520
And now behold, the king walketh before you.

01:04.520 --> 01:08.560
And I am old and gray-headed, And behold, my sons are with you,

01:08.560 --> 01:12.400
And I have walked before you From my childhood unto this day.

01:12.400 --> 01:16.920
Behold, here I am, Witness against me before the Lord,

01:16.920 --> 01:18.720
And before his anointed.

01:18.720 --> 01:22.120
Whose ox have I taken, Or whose ass have I taken,

01:22.120 --> 01:25.980
Or whom have I defrauded, Whom have I oppressed,

01:25.980 --> 01:31.180
Or of whose hand have I received any bribe To blind mine eyes therewith,

01:31.180 --> 01:33.220
And I will restore you.

01:33.220 --> 01:37.260
And they said, Thou hast not defrauded us, Nor oppressed us,

01:37.260 --> 01:40.660
Neither hast thou taken aught of any man's hand.

01:40.660 --> 01:43.840
And he said unto them, The Lord is witness against you,

01:43.840 --> 01:49.180
And his anointed is witness this day, That ye have not found aught in my hand.

01:49.180 --> 01:52.000
And they answered, He is witness.

01:52.000 --> 01:57.000
And Samuel said unto the people, It is the Lord that advanced Moses and Aaron,

01:57.000 --> 02:00.540
And that brought your fathers up out of the land of Egypt.

02:00.540 --> 02:05.140
Now therefore stand still, That I may reason with you before the Lord

02:05.140 --> 02:10.140
Of all the righteous acts of the Lord, Which he did to you and to your fathers.

02:10.140 --> 02:14.860
When Jacob was come into Egypt, And your fathers cried unto the Lord,

02:14.860 --> 02:20.180
Then the Lord sent Moses and Aaron, Which brought forth your fathers out of Egypt,

02:20.180 --> 02:23.160
And made them dwell in this place.

02:23.160 --> 02:28.160
And when they forgot the Lord their God, He sold them into the hand of Sisera,

02:28.160 --> 02:32.800
Captain of the host of Hazor, And into the hand of the Philistines,

02:32.800 --> 02:35.300
And into the hand of the king of Moab.

02:35.300 --> 02:36.840
And they fought against them.

02:36.840 --> 02:42.120
And they cried unto the Lord, And said, We have sinned because we have forsaken the Lord,

02:42.120 --> 02:45.140
And have served Baalim and Ashtaroth.

02:45.140 --> 02:50.400
But now deliver us out of the hand of our enemies, And we will serve thee.

02:50.400 --> 02:54.900
And the Lord sent Jeroboel and Bedan and Jephthah and Samuel,

02:54.900 --> 02:58.380
And delivered you out of the hand of your enemies on every side,

02:58.380 --> 03:01.000
And ye dwelt safe.

03:01.000 --> 03:05.160
And when ye saw that Nahash the king of the children of Ammon came against you,

03:05.160 --> 03:09.420
You said unto me, Nay, but a king shall reign over us,

03:09.420 --> 03:12.800
When the Lord your God was your king.

03:12.800 --> 03:15.940
Now therefore behold the king whom ye have chosen,

03:15.940 --> 03:21.040
And whom ye have desired, And behold the Lord hath set a king over you.

03:21.040 --> 03:25.500
If ye will fear the Lord and serve him, And obey his voice,

03:25.500 --> 03:28.420
And not rebel against the commandment of the Lord,

03:28.420 --> 03:32.540
Then shall both ye, and also the king that reigneth over you,

03:32.540 --> 03:35.020
Continue following the Lord your God.

03:35.020 --> 03:38.300
But if ye will not obey the voice of the Lord,

03:38.300 --> 03:41.060
But rebel against the commandment of the Lord,

03:41.080 --> 03:44.120
Then shall the hand of the Lord be against you,

03:44.120 --> 03:46.400
As it was against your fathers.

03:46.400 --> 03:49.080
Now therefore stand and see this great thing,

03:49.080 --> 03:52.000
Which the Lord will do before your eyes.

03:52.000 --> 03:54.080
Is it not wheat harvest today?

03:54.080 --> 03:58.600
I will call unto the Lord, And he shall send thunder and rain,

03:58.600 --> 04:02.680
That ye may perceive and see, That your wickedness is great,

04:02.680 --> 04:07.140
Which ye have done in the sight of the Lord, In asking you a king.

04:07.140 --> 04:09.500
So Samuel called unto the Lord,

04:09.500 --> 04:12.920
And the Lord sent thunder and rain that day.

04:12.920 --> 04:16.720
And all the people greatly feared the Lord, and Samuel.

04:16.720 --> 04:18.680
And all the people said unto Samuel,

04:18.680 --> 04:21.400
Pray for thy servants unto the Lord thy God,

04:21.400 --> 04:27.320
That we die not, for we have added unto all our sins this evil,

04:27.320 --> 04:29.640
To ask us a king.

04:29.640 --> 04:34.680
And Samuel said unto the people, Fear not, ye have done all this wickedness,

04:34.680 --> 04:37.760
Yet turn not aside from following the Lord,

04:37.780 --> 04:41.740
But serve the Lord with all your heart, And turn ye not aside.

04:41.740 --> 04:46.060
For then should ye go after vain things, Which cannot profit nor deliver,

04:46.060 --> 04:48.340
For they are vain.

04:48.340 --> 04:52.620
For the Lord will not forsake his people, For his great name's sake,

04:52.620 --> 04:57.020
Because it hath pleased the Lord To make you his people.

04:57.020 --> 05:01.260
Moreover as for me, God forbid That I should sin against the Lord

05:01.260 --> 05:05.980
In ceasing to pray for you, But I will teach you the good and the right

05:06.640 --> 05:12.640
Only fear the Lord, And serve him in truth with all your heart,

05:12.640 --> 05:16.600
For consider how great things he hath done for you.

05:16.600 --> 05:21.160
But if ye shall still do wickedly, Ye shall be consumed,

05:21.160 --> 05:24.360
Both ye and your king.

05:24.360 --> 05:26.360
Brother Alex, would you pray for us?

05:26.360 --> 05:29.360
Dear Father in heaven, thank you for your word,

05:29.360 --> 05:32.360
And thank you for the power it has.

05:32.360 --> 05:37.360
And we ask that you show Pastor Johnson the Holy Spirit,

05:37.360 --> 05:40.360
And that he may preach the Holy Spirit to us,

05:40.360 --> 05:44.360
And show us wondrous things, And give us ears to hear,

05:44.360 --> 05:47.360
And high and low in our hearts. Amen.

05:47.360 --> 05:50.360
Amen. Man, that sounded like Samuel himself was reading that.

05:52.360 --> 05:55.360
That's sort of, amen, we can just close our Bibles and go home.

05:55.360 --> 05:57.360
Messages received.

05:57.360 --> 05:59.360
All right.

05:59.360 --> 06:05.360
Last week, Saul, he ended up chopping up those oxen

06:05.360 --> 06:08.360
and sending them all over the nation of Israel

06:08.360 --> 06:15.360
because we saw the connection between the raimoth Gilead,

06:15.360 --> 06:18.360
which is a combo word there,

06:18.360 --> 06:21.360
named after Gilead, which was an actual person.

06:21.360 --> 06:24.360
As you can see from this chapter, Gilead was an actual,

06:24.360 --> 06:26.360
well, maybe not from this chapter,

06:26.360 --> 06:30.360
but Gilead was an actual person in the lineage of Manasseh.

06:30.360 --> 06:33.360
And I was doing a little bit of study on this,

06:33.360 --> 06:37.360
and Manasseh was actually the smallest tribe in all of Israel

06:37.360 --> 06:41.360
before the Benjaminites got beat up.

06:41.360 --> 06:45.360
And I showed the connection between Benjamin's tribe

06:45.360 --> 06:49.360
and that city of raimoth Gilead,

06:49.360 --> 06:53.360
and how the virgins that were left over

06:53.360 --> 06:56.360
from getting beat up and basically annihilated

06:56.360 --> 06:59.360
because they didn't go and help against the Benjaminites

06:59.360 --> 07:04.360
that were harboring those sodomites in Judges 19.

07:04.360 --> 07:07.360
There is a deep connection between these two places.

07:07.360 --> 07:11.360
So I showed that, so there is a deep connection there.

07:11.360 --> 07:16.360
But you have, Samuel kind of brings some stuff up here

07:16.360 --> 07:20.360
in this chapter that I think is also kind of a callback to it,

07:20.360 --> 07:22.360
and I'll get to that.

07:22.360 --> 07:27.360
But it's interesting how in Judges 19,

07:27.360 --> 07:29.360
somebody brought this up to me after the sermon last week,

07:29.360 --> 07:34.360
in Judges 19 that priest cuts up his concubine

07:34.360 --> 07:37.360
and sends the concubine's pieces all over Israel,

07:37.360 --> 07:41.360
and that's how they call all the rest of the tribes

07:41.360 --> 07:45.360
in order to fight them and say that this is a horrible thing that's happened.

07:45.360 --> 07:51.360
And then Saul, he cuts up an ox and sends it to all the places

07:51.360 --> 07:53.360
and says, hey, if you guys don't come and fight,

07:53.360 --> 07:55.360
this is what I'm going to do to all your oxen.

07:55.360 --> 07:59.360
And it's kind of interesting how those things tie together.

07:59.360 --> 08:01.360
I don't know, I just thought that was really cool

08:01.360 --> 08:03.360
that someone thought about that.

08:03.360 --> 08:05.360
Who was it that came up to me with that?

08:05.360 --> 08:06.360
Was that Brother Alex or who was that?

08:06.360 --> 08:07.360
I can't remember who it was.

08:07.360 --> 08:10.360
But anyway, that was really kind of a cool perspective there.

08:10.360 --> 08:12.360
The Bible is just so deep,

08:12.360 --> 08:16.360
there's lots of cool things that you can come up with.

08:16.360 --> 08:21.360
But tonight we're going to see Samuel's kind of farewell,

08:21.360 --> 08:23.360
it's kind of like his little farewell speech,

08:23.360 --> 08:26.360
farewell sermon to the nation as the leader.

08:26.360 --> 08:28.360
Now he still remains a prophet,

08:28.360 --> 08:32.360
and really he does kind of come back in a capacity

08:32.360 --> 08:36.360
to have to still do some leadership stuff that Saul won't do when he goes bad.

08:36.360 --> 08:41.360
But Samuel's telling them, he's kind of giving them a last hurrah here

08:41.360 --> 08:44.360
and addressing them when he's an old man.

08:44.360 --> 08:46.360
And so the first point I have tonight,

08:46.360 --> 08:48.360
and again, Saul has been coronated,

08:48.360 --> 08:51.360
and I believe that this is happening right after the coronation

08:51.360 --> 08:55.360
because it doesn't say like an after this or this happened at a certain place.

08:55.360 --> 09:01.360
It kind of seems like it just carries on after he's officially coronated as the king here.

09:01.360 --> 09:04.360
So, and this has gone on for many chapters,

09:04.360 --> 09:06.360
and they officially in the last chapter did this.

09:06.360 --> 09:09.360
They sacrificed all these sacrifices,

09:09.360 --> 09:13.360
and remember the chapter breaks are only done after the fact.

09:13.360 --> 09:16.360
Many, many years later after the Bible is already written.

09:16.360 --> 09:20.360
And so, and it says, because if you look at verse 15 in chapter 12,

09:20.360 --> 09:23.360
it says, Saul and all the men of Israel rejoiced greatly,

09:23.360 --> 09:26.360
and Samuel said unto all Israel.

09:26.360 --> 09:28.360
So it's continuing on from the last passage.

09:28.360 --> 09:31.360
So this is happening right at the same time.

09:31.360 --> 09:33.360
It's not like there's a chapter break and this is years later,

09:33.360 --> 09:35.360
or a chapter break and this happened two weeks later.

09:35.360 --> 09:38.360
This is happening at the same exact time and moment.

09:38.360 --> 09:41.360
So this is probably awkward.

09:41.360 --> 09:43.360
This is an awkward moment,

09:43.360 --> 09:46.360
because you would think this is a time for everybody to celebrate,

09:46.360 --> 09:48.360
and oh yeah, this is a great day. Saul's the king.

09:48.360 --> 09:50.360
You know, we have a king now.

09:50.360 --> 09:56.360
But it's like Samuel kind of reigns on their parade, literally.

09:56.360 --> 10:01.360
And he gives them positives here, very positive message,

10:01.360 --> 10:04.360
but he also gives them some very negative things,

10:04.360 --> 10:07.360
and it's things that they need to hear.

10:07.360 --> 10:09.360
And this is what a true man of God will do,

10:09.360 --> 10:14.360
and he kind of starts out by just saying something that needs to be said

10:14.360 --> 10:16.360
that leaders have got to have integrity.

10:16.360 --> 10:19.360
And he in the first verse here shows this,

10:19.360 --> 10:21.360
but point number one in the sermon,

10:21.360 --> 10:23.360
and this is Samuel's farewell address,

10:23.360 --> 10:25.360
that leaders must have integrity.

10:25.360 --> 10:27.360
So verse number one, the Bible says,

10:27.360 --> 10:29.360
And Samuel said unto all Israel,

10:29.360 --> 10:31.360
Behold, I have hearkened unto your voice,

10:31.360 --> 10:36.360
And all that ye said unto me, and have made a king over you.

10:36.360 --> 10:39.360
And now behold, the king walketh before you,

10:39.360 --> 10:42.360
And I am old and gray-headed,

10:42.360 --> 10:44.360
And behold, my sons are with you,

10:44.360 --> 10:49.360
And I have walked before you from my childhood unto this day.

10:49.360 --> 10:53.360
Behold, here I am, witness against me before the Lord,

10:53.360 --> 10:57.360
And before his anointed, whose ox have I taken,

10:57.360 --> 10:59.360
Or whose ass have I taken,

10:59.360 --> 11:02.360
Or whom have I defrauded, whom have I oppressed,

11:02.360 --> 11:08.360
Or of whose hand have I received any bribe to blind my eyes therewith,

11:08.360 --> 11:10.360
And I will restore at you.

11:10.360 --> 11:14.360
And they said, Thou hast not defrauded us, nor oppressed us,

11:14.360 --> 11:17.360
Neither hast thou taken aught of any man's hand.

11:17.360 --> 11:21.360
And he said unto them, The Lord is witness against you,

11:21.360 --> 11:24.360
And his anointed is witness this day,

11:24.360 --> 11:27.360
That ye have not found aught in my hand.

11:27.360 --> 11:29.360
And they answered, He is witness.

11:29.360 --> 11:33.360
And I think that this is, he has to say this because,

11:33.360 --> 11:37.360
I mean, aside from the fact that he did put his sons in charge,

11:37.360 --> 11:40.360
which he shouldn't have done if they were not doing the job right,

11:40.360 --> 11:44.360
but he could have just stopped them from being judges or whatever,

11:44.360 --> 11:46.360
and he kind of has it seems like,

11:46.360 --> 11:48.360
because they came to him and are like,

11:48.360 --> 11:50.360
your sons aren't like your,

11:50.360 --> 11:52.360
because what they should have done instead of demanding a king,

11:52.360 --> 11:55.360
say, hey, your sons aren't doing their job right,

11:55.360 --> 11:58.360
you need to step in and do your job again

11:58.360 --> 12:00.360
until we can find somebody that's better,

12:00.360 --> 12:02.360
instead of demanding a king.

12:02.360 --> 12:04.360
That's where they went wrong, okay?

12:04.360 --> 12:06.360
And that's why I think he's bringing this up,

12:06.360 --> 12:09.360
because they don't really have a right to ask for a king,

12:09.360 --> 12:12.360
they should just ask for better judges.

12:12.360 --> 12:17.360
Because maybe Samuel just didn't know his sons were going to be like that, you know?

12:17.360 --> 12:21.360
So it's not like he is not, you know, he's perfect in, you know,

12:21.360 --> 12:24.360
that he's not prone to make mistakes.

12:24.360 --> 12:27.360
So Samuel first stood before the people, you know, with clean hands here,

12:27.360 --> 12:32.360
his honest testimony, and they said he is witness.

12:32.360 --> 12:34.360
They admitted that there's nothing that he's done,

12:34.360 --> 12:36.360
there's nothing they could accuse him of.

12:36.360 --> 12:41.360
And his life showed that, you know, true spiritual leadership

12:41.360 --> 12:45.360
is not built upon his position alone, but his character.

12:45.360 --> 12:52.360
And that's true with any leader that is in spiritual leadership.

12:52.360 --> 12:56.360
You have to have character, faithfulness, and accountability before God and men.

12:56.360 --> 12:59.360
And so that's what Samuel is calling down here from them.

12:59.360 --> 13:03.360
Now let's take a jog over to 1 Corinthians chapter 4.

13:03.360 --> 13:07.360
And the Bible, the New Testament teaches this concept,

13:07.360 --> 13:10.360
it's not just in things of monetary things,

13:10.360 --> 13:13.360
because that's what he's kind of talking about, because he's a judge.

13:13.360 --> 13:17.360
It's very important for judges to not be corrupted by gifts,

13:17.360 --> 13:20.360
by, you know, bribes and things like that.

13:20.360 --> 13:23.360
As a matter of fact, God lays the rules out for someone to be a judge.

13:23.360 --> 13:25.360
You cannot accept gifts.

13:25.360 --> 13:29.360
You cannot accept bribes because those things will poison you

13:29.360 --> 13:35.360
and make you, cause you to make judgments for somebody in their favor

13:35.360 --> 13:38.360
because that person's given you gifts and things like that before.

13:38.360 --> 13:40.360
It's really easy to corrupt somebody like that.

13:40.360 --> 13:43.360
And so they're not, they weren't supposed to be able to take things.

13:43.360 --> 13:48.360
In our country today, they are not supposed to take gifts and bribes from other people,

13:48.360 --> 13:52.360
including the position of becoming a judge in the first place.

13:52.360 --> 13:54.360
I mean, that is corruption.

13:54.360 --> 14:00.360
Hey, you know, I'll make you the Seventh Circuit judge or the Ninth Circuit judge in this place,

14:00.360 --> 14:04.360
but you gotta, you know, you gotta play ball.

14:04.360 --> 14:07.360
And so, sure.

14:07.360 --> 14:10.360
You know, and what happens in our country, the Ninth Circuit,

14:10.360 --> 14:13.360
isn't it the Ninth Circuit that always appeals all this stuff

14:13.360 --> 14:16.360
and makes all these crazy rulings?

14:16.360 --> 14:18.360
The Ninth Circuit.

14:18.360 --> 14:20.360
Yeah, the Ninth Circuit, is that what you said?

14:20.360 --> 14:21.360
Yeah, pretty much.

14:21.360 --> 14:22.360
It's based in San Francisco.

14:22.360 --> 14:23.360
It's based in San Francisco.

14:23.360 --> 14:25.360
That's what I was just gonna say.

14:25.360 --> 14:33.360
And they are able to just legislate from the bench there all kinds of insane rulings.

14:33.360 --> 14:35.360
And that's not the way it's supposed to be.

14:35.360 --> 14:39.360
You're supposed to judge by the law, not by your political stance.

14:39.360 --> 14:43.360
So, or by who gave you what.

14:43.360 --> 14:45.360
So it's funny how there's always just some weird liberal there

14:45.360 --> 14:48.360
that makes all these crazy rulings.

14:48.360 --> 14:50.360
Okay, 1 Corinthians 4, 1, it says,

14:50.360 --> 14:54.360
Let a man so account of us as of the ministers of Christ

14:54.360 --> 14:57.360
and stewards of the mysteries of God.

14:57.360 --> 15:02.360
Moreover, it is required in stewards that a man be found faithful.

15:02.360 --> 15:05.360
So, whatever it is that you're stewarding over,

15:05.360 --> 15:08.360
you need to be faithful in that thing.

15:08.360 --> 15:11.360
And he's just saying a generalized statement here,

15:11.360 --> 15:14.360
but he is talking specifically about something in context.

15:14.360 --> 15:16.360
He's talking about the stewards of the mysteries of God.

15:16.360 --> 15:20.360
It was the apostle Paul's responsibility to be a steward of the mysteries

15:20.360 --> 15:22.360
of the things that God has taught him.

15:22.360 --> 15:26.360
He's supposed to teach those things to other men as they're given to him.

15:26.360 --> 15:28.360
If he just goes and starts teaching whatever he feels like,

15:28.360 --> 15:34.360
or he just holds back part of the message because he thinks it's gonna hurt people's feelings,

15:34.360 --> 15:38.360
or he thinks it's gonna offend people, he's not gonna be doing his job.

15:38.360 --> 15:43.360
That was one of the main things that God demanded of the prophets in the Old Testament

15:43.360 --> 15:47.360
and the things that he demands of people even today that are preaching God's word

15:47.360 --> 15:50.360
is that you need to say what the Bible says.

15:50.360 --> 15:51.360
You cannot hold back.

15:51.360 --> 15:55.360
And a lot of people want to hold back and trim the message

15:55.360 --> 15:57.360
and not say what they're supposed to be saying,

15:57.360 --> 16:02.360
but it says that it's required in stewards that a man be found faithful.

16:02.360 --> 16:03.360
Let's read on. It says,

16:03.360 --> 16:08.360
But with me it is a very small thing that I should be judged of you or of man's judgment,

16:08.360 --> 16:13.360
yet I judge not mine own self, for I know nothing by myself,

16:13.360 --> 16:20.360
yet am I not hereby justified, but he that judgeth me is the Lord.

16:20.360 --> 16:24.360
Therefore judge nothing before the time until the Lord come,

16:24.360 --> 16:28.360
who both will bring to light the hidden things of darkness,

16:28.360 --> 16:31.360
and will make manifest the counsels of the hearts,

16:31.360 --> 16:34.360
and then shall every man have praise of God.

16:34.360 --> 16:37.360
So sometimes people just get too quick to judge about things,

16:37.360 --> 16:41.360
and he's just saying, hey, you shouldn't judge anything before the time,

16:41.360 --> 16:44.360
especially things that you don't really know 100% for sure.

16:44.360 --> 16:49.360
But what is the apostle Paul's point though, and why was I showing this to you,

16:49.360 --> 16:55.360
because as God's people we're supposed to be the stewards of the things of God.

16:55.360 --> 17:01.360
But in reality whatever responsibility you have even in this church,

17:01.360 --> 17:06.360
we're supposed to do those things and be faithful in the things that God's given us stewardship over.

17:06.360 --> 17:11.360
Whether it's counting the offering, whether it's being an usher,

17:11.360 --> 17:16.360
whether it's just doing your job out-soul-warning, whether it's cleaning the church,

17:16.360 --> 17:22.360
just whatever it is, even just the jobs that God has given you in your home.

17:22.360 --> 17:27.360
The roles that he's given you as husbands and wives to teach your children.

17:27.360 --> 17:33.360
Those things are things that he's given you stewardship over your children.

17:33.360 --> 17:36.360
He gave your children to you.

17:36.360 --> 17:40.360
And people are just like, well, those are my kids, I can do whatever I want with my kids.

17:40.360 --> 17:45.360
It's like, really? Because they're the heritage of the Lord.

17:45.360 --> 17:50.360
The children are a heritage of the Lord.

17:50.360 --> 17:53.360
He wants a godly seed to be brought forth.

17:53.360 --> 17:57.360
And so when people have that attitude, well, those are my kids, and I'll do what I want.

17:57.360 --> 18:00.360
Well, I mean, I don't think that's how God sees it.

18:00.360 --> 18:05.360
So I think that he sees it as he's given you stewardship over those children,

18:05.360 --> 18:09.360
and you should probably think about what God wants you to do with your children.

18:09.360 --> 18:15.360
And not just what your selfishness wants to do with your children.

18:15.360 --> 18:20.360
First, let's look at Colossians chapter 3.

18:21.360 --> 18:24.360
Verse number 23.

18:24.360 --> 18:34.360
And just anything that we do should be done with faithfulness.

18:34.360 --> 18:36.360
Colossians 3.23 says,

18:36.360 --> 18:42.360
And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily as unto the Lord, and not unto men.

18:42.360 --> 18:47.360
If we just have that as our baseline, that when we're doing stuff, we're doing it for God,

18:47.360 --> 18:52.360
it kind of just gets rid of the whining and complaining, because then really you're just,

18:52.360 --> 18:56.360
if that's how your attitude is, then you're essentially whining and complaining about God,

18:56.360 --> 19:01.360
or whining and complaining about God, because he's the one that allowed you to have that job.

19:01.360 --> 19:05.360
He's the one that allows you to work there. He's the one that gave you that boss.

19:05.360 --> 19:10.360
So if you're just complaining all the time, you're really just kind of like the children of Israel in the wilderness,

19:10.360 --> 19:12.360
just constantly griping.

19:12.360 --> 19:15.360
I mean, doesn't it make you sick when you read those stories in the Old Testament?

19:15.360 --> 19:18.360
It's like, why don't you just shut up, you little whiner?

19:18.360 --> 19:21.360
And it's like, then you just realize that you're just like them.

19:21.360 --> 19:24.360
That's what we're supposed to see, though.

19:24.360 --> 19:27.360
That's what we're supposed to see about the children of Israel in the wilderness.

19:27.360 --> 19:33.360
That's why it shows us that in the book of Hebrews, is that don't be like those people in the wilderness.

19:33.360 --> 19:37.360
Don't be like those people in the wilderness, and he applies it to us as Christians,

19:37.360 --> 19:42.360
because we can be just like them, even though we're saved and they weren't.

19:43.360 --> 19:46.360
But, you know, a lot of those people were, but some of them weren't, okay?

19:46.360 --> 19:47.360
But it says,

19:47.360 --> 19:48.360
It says,

20:07.360 --> 20:09.360
It doesn't matter what your last name is.

20:09.360 --> 20:12.360
It doesn't matter what your title is.

20:12.360 --> 20:17.360
You're going to receive the wrong that you do, because God does not respect titles.

20:17.360 --> 20:19.360
He doesn't respect persons.

20:19.360 --> 20:20.360
What does that mean?

20:20.360 --> 20:22.360
You're not better than anybody else.

20:22.360 --> 20:28.360
When you sin, He doesn't look at you, oh, but that's that person.

20:28.360 --> 20:31.360
I'm not going to punish that person like I'm going to punish that person,

20:31.360 --> 20:34.360
because that person's name is, you know, Rockefeller.

20:34.360 --> 20:38.360
Or, you know, if it's Rockefeller, it might be even worse.

20:38.360 --> 20:40.360
No, I was kidding.

20:40.360 --> 20:42.360
He doesn't respect persons in that way.

20:42.360 --> 20:44.360
God just judges everybody equally.

20:44.360 --> 20:48.360
And so that's what's funny when people think that they're better than other people.

20:48.360 --> 20:50.360
It's like you're not, though.

20:50.360 --> 20:52.360
And as a matter of fact, if you have that attitude,

20:52.360 --> 20:57.360
that He might actually punish you more severely, because you have a haughty attitude.

20:57.360 --> 20:59.360
God does not like haughty attitudes.

20:59.360 --> 21:02.360
You know, the more you're humble, the less He's going to punish you.

21:02.360 --> 21:06.360
The more mercy that you request, the more He's going to give you.

21:06.360 --> 21:11.360
But if you're just proud and just, you know, you just harden your neck,

21:11.360 --> 21:15.360
those are the people He has to correct more.

21:15.360 --> 21:18.360
It's just like your children when they, you know, babies, you know,

21:18.360 --> 21:21.360
if you had like, because there's willful babies too, right?

21:21.360 --> 21:25.360
And I remember when the babies like would try to not let you get them dressed, you know,

21:25.360 --> 21:29.360
they're just like, you know, they stiffen up and they'll arch their backs and stuff.

21:29.360 --> 21:31.360
You know what I'm talking about, right?

21:31.360 --> 21:33.360
It's been a long time since I had to dress a baby, though.

21:33.360 --> 21:37.360
But I just remember them, you know, doing the little stiffy, try to, you know,

21:37.360 --> 21:42.360
it's like, why don't you just sit still and let me put your onesie back on or whatever.

21:42.360 --> 21:46.360
And, but there's just some that are more difficult than others.

21:46.360 --> 21:49.360
Some are just like all pliable and they're smiling when you're doing everything.

21:49.360 --> 21:52.360
And some are just like, mm, mm, mm.

21:52.360 --> 21:55.360
Or you put them in the car seat and they instantly just start crying,

21:55.360 --> 21:59.360
as if they're just, you're just putting them in like some, you know,

22:00.360 --> 22:04.360
house of pain, like torture chamber or something, you know.

22:04.360 --> 22:07.360
They know, they just know they're going to fall asleep as soon as you start driving off in the car.

22:07.360 --> 22:09.360
That's what their problem is.

22:09.360 --> 22:13.360
They don't want to go to sleep and they know, this is the sleep device you're putting me in.

22:13.360 --> 22:17.360
I know what happens when I go around the corner a few times and you're going to go to sleep.

22:17.360 --> 22:20.360
That's why we got Remy to sleep for like a long time.

22:20.360 --> 22:24.360
We just put him in, we strap him in, go around the block a few times.

22:24.360 --> 22:28.360
Sometimes we'd have to go faster on the block, so just, I don't know what it was,

22:28.360 --> 22:34.360
but we used to put that kid, we had to put him in this.

22:34.360 --> 22:38.360
At one point, he'd fall asleep so hard, we had to put him in like one of those,

22:38.360 --> 22:41.360
back then they didn't have the battery powered swings.

22:41.360 --> 22:45.360
We're older, so they had the ones you had to wind up like this, you know.

22:45.360 --> 22:48.360
And they made a lot of noise when you wind them up, so you'd have to,

22:48.360 --> 22:50.360
we'd do it really fast so we could just hurry up and get it over with

22:50.360 --> 22:53.360
so he wouldn't wake up when he'd rewind it.

22:53.360 --> 22:55.360
But he was like hanging out of that thing.

22:55.360 --> 23:00.360
It was probably a danger, but we didn't care, we wanted him to sleep.

23:00.360 --> 23:06.360
We had to turn on the shop vac and put him in the swing at the same time.

23:06.360 --> 23:11.360
And we couldn't have the TV going, so we just, we couldn't watch TV anymore.

23:11.360 --> 23:15.360
So, you know, just him in the swing with the shop vac going,

23:15.360 --> 23:19.360
and that was just our life for a while.

23:19.360 --> 23:24.360
Yeah, Remy was a rough one.

23:24.360 --> 23:27.360
He was.

23:27.360 --> 23:30.360
He stopped taking naps at like two weeks old or something.

23:30.360 --> 23:33.360
I don't know. No, I don't know if it was two weeks, but it was pretty soon.

23:33.360 --> 23:36.360
You know those babies that you have that just sleep all the time?

23:36.360 --> 23:38.360
He was not one of those.

23:38.360 --> 23:42.360
But anyway, he's good now. He likes to sleep now.

23:42.360 --> 23:46.360
No, he's not in our house. I'm just joking.

23:46.360 --> 23:51.360
I'm kidding. So anyway, but yeah, I mean, God's not a respecter of persons.

23:51.360 --> 23:56.360
And so, you know, Samuel's, you know, he's putting the children of Israel

23:56.360 --> 24:01.360
and he's just saying, hey, look, you know, I didn't take anything from you.

24:01.360 --> 24:04.360
And he's kind of setting the stage for what he's going to say next here.

24:04.360 --> 24:08.360
So number two, God is faithful in every generation.

24:08.360 --> 24:12.360
So he's going to go on with his preaching here in verse six.

24:12.360 --> 24:14.360
It says, and Samuel said unto the people,

24:14.360 --> 24:18.360
It is the Lord that advanced Moses and Aaron

24:18.360 --> 24:21.360
and brought your fathers up out of the land of Egypt.

24:21.360 --> 24:24.360
Now it wasn't them that did it. It was the Lord that did it.

24:24.360 --> 24:27.360
God's the one that appeared to Moses at the burning bush.

24:27.360 --> 24:30.360
He's the one that sent him to Aaron because he said he couldn't speak very well.

24:30.360 --> 24:34.360
He's the one that led them out with a heavy hand.

24:34.360 --> 24:37.360
He's the one that did all those miracles.

24:37.360 --> 24:43.360
He just told Moses to tap his stick or whatever and then things would happen.

24:43.360 --> 24:48.360
Take your staff and point it this way or whatever and then God would make the miracle happen.

24:48.360 --> 24:52.360
It's like Moses didn't have the power. It was God that had the power.

24:52.360 --> 24:54.360
And God is the one that led them out.

24:54.360 --> 24:59.360
And it says, Now therefore stand still that I may reason with you before the Lord

24:59.360 --> 25:06.360
of all the righteous acts of the Lord which he did to you and to your fathers.

25:06.360 --> 25:11.360
And when Jacob was come into Egypt and your fathers cried unto the Lord,

25:11.360 --> 25:16.360
then the Lord sent Moses and Aaron which brought forth your fathers out of Egypt

25:16.360 --> 25:18.360
and made them dwell in this place.

25:18.360 --> 25:21.360
So he's basically giving them a big sum up here.

25:21.360 --> 25:23.360
Hey, God is the one that led you here.

25:23.360 --> 25:27.360
This is the place, the land of milk and honey.

25:27.360 --> 25:31.360
And this is the land of plenty that God led you to.

25:31.360 --> 25:36.360
And he's the one that is, he's your savior basically.

25:36.360 --> 25:41.360
And when they forgot the Lord their God, he sold them into the hand of Sisera,

25:41.360 --> 25:45.360
captive of the host of Hazor and into the hand of the Philistines

25:45.360 --> 25:48.360
and into the hand of the king of Moab.

25:48.360 --> 25:51.360
And they fought against them and they cried unto the Lord and said,

25:51.360 --> 25:57.360
We have sinned because we have forsaken the Lord and have served Balaam and Ashtaroth.

25:57.360 --> 26:01.360
And now deliver us out of the hand of our enemies and we will serve thee.

26:01.360 --> 26:05.360
So he's basically telling them about what Israel always does.

26:05.360 --> 26:10.360
They always do good when they have that savior come and help them and lead them.

26:10.360 --> 26:16.360
But then when that person would die, then they would just fall back into the same traps.

26:16.360 --> 26:21.360
They'd let the people around them influence them and then they would start serving other gods.

26:21.360 --> 26:24.360
And then they'd be oppressed by those people.

26:24.360 --> 26:30.360
So verse number 11 it says, And the Lord sent Jerubal.

26:30.360 --> 26:34.360
Who is Jerubal's, what is his name in the Bible though?

26:34.360 --> 26:36.360
Gideon, yes Gideon.

26:36.360 --> 26:40.360
And it says, And Bidan, who's that guy?

26:40.360 --> 26:42.360
Anybody know who that is?

26:42.360 --> 26:47.360
Neither do I. And neither does anybody else.

26:47.360 --> 26:55.360
And Jephthah and Samuel delivered you out of the hand of your enemies on every side and you dwelled safe.

26:55.360 --> 27:02.360
So these are, you know he's listing judges so Bidan must have lived in the time of the judges.

27:03.360 --> 27:08.360
So who is he? Well people don't really know who he was.

27:08.360 --> 27:11.360
It's kind of a mystery as to who he is.

27:11.360 --> 27:17.360
Some people think that it's talking about that it's just another name for Barack or Barack.

27:17.360 --> 27:23.360
Barack, not Obama, but a different Barack, a way cooler Barack, not a homo.

27:23.360 --> 27:29.360
But I think it ties back once again to Manasseh.

27:30.360 --> 27:36.360
Because the only other time that this name is mentioned is in 1 Chronicles chapter 7.

27:36.360 --> 27:39.360
Go ahead and turn to 1 Chronicles chapter 7.

27:39.360 --> 27:48.360
And I'm not sure if this is the same guy or not, but I mean Samuel just pops this name out, Bidan.

27:48.360 --> 27:55.360
And if it was, I don't know, it's just weird that it's only one other name in the whole Bible.

27:56.360 --> 28:00.360
And who is he in front of? Well he's in front of Saul, who's the king now.

28:00.360 --> 28:07.360
And I don't know, I mean there might be something I'm just missing here.

28:07.360 --> 28:13.360
And maybe I'll come back to you later on and I'll have done some deep dive into this genealogy right here

28:13.360 --> 28:15.360
and figure something out that I haven't figured out yet.

28:15.360 --> 28:19.360
But as of right now, I'm not 100% sure if this is even the right guy.

28:19.360 --> 28:23.360
But I'm just going to show you the only passage that ever mentions this guy.

28:23.360 --> 28:26.360
And we'll just leave it at that.

28:26.360 --> 28:31.360
It could be just a totally different guy that the Bible just doesn't mention in the list of judges.

28:31.360 --> 28:36.360
And it's just Samuel just giving us an extra guy that we didn't know about.

28:36.360 --> 28:39.360
So he's even talking about himself in the passage.

28:39.360 --> 28:42.360
So anyway, it says in 1 Chronicles 7.14, it says,

28:42.360 --> 28:54.360
The sons of Anassah, Asriel, whom she bare, but his concubine, the Arimatus, bear Macur, Amature, the father of Gilead.

28:54.360 --> 28:58.360
So here's Gilead, right? This is where it names him.

28:58.360 --> 29:03.360
Amature or Macur or however you want to, how do you say that brother Eli?

29:03.360 --> 29:06.360
That mature, is it mature?

29:06.360 --> 29:10.360
Oh sorry, he's reading something else. He's not even listening to me.

29:10.360 --> 29:14.360
All right, I love when I get a call you out and you're not paying attention. Love it.

29:14.360 --> 29:15.360
No, I'm just kidding.

29:15.360 --> 29:19.360
Amature took to wife the sister of Huppim and Shuppim.

29:19.360 --> 29:22.360
There's some baby names for you in case you're looking for ones.

29:22.360 --> 29:26.360
Whose sister's name was Macca.

29:26.360 --> 29:31.360
And the name of the second was Zolophahad.

29:31.360 --> 29:33.360
And Zolophahad had daughters.

29:33.360 --> 29:42.360
I'm guessing these are the ones that their dad died and they didn't have, they asked for an inheritance from Moses is what I'm guessing here.

29:42.360 --> 29:48.360
And Macca, the wife of Macur, bare a son and she called his name Poresh.

29:48.360 --> 29:51.360
And the name of his brother was Shoresh.

29:51.360 --> 29:55.360
And his sons were Ulam and Rekem.

29:55.360 --> 29:58.360
And the sons of Ulam, Bidan.

29:58.360 --> 30:01.360
So there's only another time it's ever mentioned in the Bible.

30:01.360 --> 30:11.360
And these were the sons of Gilead, the son of Macur, the son of Manasseh and his sister, Hemoliketh.

30:11.360 --> 30:15.360
Bear Ishad and Ebbeazer and Mahala.

30:15.360 --> 30:23.360
And the sons of Shemita were Ahayan and Shechem and Lichai and Anayam.

30:23.360 --> 30:25.360
So baby names in case anybody was looking for them.

30:25.360 --> 30:41.360
But one thing that I was having a hard time figuring out, I just kind of came to a dead end last week, was the name of that city,

30:41.360 --> 30:43.360
Reymoth Gilead.

30:43.360 --> 30:47.360
It doesn't really tell why it was named in the two different names.

30:47.360 --> 30:53.360
So why it was mixed with that first name before it.

30:53.360 --> 30:56.360
But that I haven't been able to figure out yet.

30:56.360 --> 30:58.360
So I probably never will.

30:58.360 --> 31:07.360
But it is interesting how this person's name ties back to being a relative of Gilead.

31:07.360 --> 31:13.360
Because in the sons of Ulam, Bidan, these were the sons of Gilead.

31:13.360 --> 31:24.360
And Gilead has those ties to the tribe of Benjamin because of the intermarrying of those virgin daughters from that city that got destroyed.

31:24.360 --> 31:30.360
I don't know if that really is enough to, I don't even know if you find that interesting or not.

31:30.360 --> 31:36.360
I just, I had never noticed that in First Samuel before, in my Bible reading before.

31:36.360 --> 31:38.360
I never knew who Bidan was.

31:38.360 --> 31:41.360
And then I was asking you guys and you didn't know who he was either.

31:41.360 --> 31:46.360
So I didn't know if anybody else has been stumped by this before.

31:46.360 --> 31:51.360
But every once in a while you'll come across, as a pastor you'll come across a pastor and I'm like, who's Bidan?

31:51.360 --> 31:57.360
And I'm glad that I looked because I just, I was thinking, I don't remember a judge named Bidan.

31:57.360 --> 32:00.360
And then I started looking and I was like, oh yeah, nobody else does either.

32:00.360 --> 32:05.360
So here's the answers that come up when you look at a commentary.

32:05.360 --> 32:08.360
And this is why we don't follow commentaries, by the way.

32:08.360 --> 32:17.360
It says, the mention of Bidan in his passage has led to some debate among biblical scholars and theologians regarding his identity.

32:17.360 --> 32:25.360
The name Bidan does not appear in the book of Judges, which is the primary biblical source detailing the lives and deeds of the judges of Israel.

32:25.360 --> 32:30.360
This absence has led to various interpretations and theories about who Bidan might be.

32:30.360 --> 32:36.360
One common interpretation is that Bidan is another name for Barak, one of the judges mentioned in the book of Judges.

32:36.360 --> 32:44.360
Barak, alongside the prophetess Deborah, led Israel in victory against the Canaanite army commanded by Sisera, judges four and five.

32:44.360 --> 32:48.360
And then Sisera is mentioned in the passage, so I think maybe that's why they tie him in together.

32:48.360 --> 32:49.360
I don't know.

32:49.360 --> 32:55.360
But there's other things that aren't tied together with some of the names either, so I don't know if that's really a dog that hunts.

32:55.360 --> 33:02.360
But this view is supported by the sub-tugent, an ancient Greek translation of the Hebrew Bible,

33:02.360 --> 33:06.360
which substitutes the name Barak for Bidan in 1 Samuel 12-11.

33:06.360 --> 33:10.360
So really, the real reason is because the sub-tugent.

33:10.360 --> 33:11.360
That's why.

33:11.360 --> 33:15.360
And I'm not going to use that as a primary source as to why I would think it's Barak.

33:15.360 --> 33:19.360
Anyway, another theory suggests that Bidan could be a reference to Samson.

33:19.360 --> 33:21.360
Yeah, they sound pretty much almost the same.

33:21.360 --> 33:23.360
Another prominent judge of Israel.

33:23.360 --> 33:24.360
Ben Dan.

33:24.360 --> 33:25.360
Son of Dan.

33:25.360 --> 33:26.360
Ben Dan?

33:26.360 --> 33:27.360
Ben Dan.

33:27.360 --> 33:30.360
It's a contraction of, or could be a contraction of Ben Dan.

33:30.360 --> 33:31.360
Son of Dan.

33:31.360 --> 33:33.360
Oh, but it says Bidan.

33:33.360 --> 33:36.360
I know, but it could be a contraction of Ben Dan.

33:36.360 --> 33:38.360
Oh, I see what you're saying.

33:38.360 --> 33:40.360
Dan shall judge his people.

33:40.360 --> 33:47.360
Oh, maybe.

33:47.360 --> 33:52.360
Samson's exploits against the Philistines are well documented in Judges 13-16,

33:52.360 --> 33:58.360
and his inclusion in Samuel's speech would be fitting given the role in delivering Israel from their enemies.

33:58.360 --> 34:08.360
A less common interpretation is that Bidan might be a reference to Jer,

34:08.360 --> 34:11.360
a judge mentioned in Judges 10-35.

34:11.360 --> 34:13.360
I'm just giving you all the options here, okay?

34:13.360 --> 34:23.360
Jer judged Israel for 22 years and had 30 sons who rode 30 donkey asses, ruling 30 towns in Gilead.

34:23.360 --> 34:27.360
However, there was little direct evidence to support this identification.

34:27.360 --> 34:31.360
Some scholars propose that Bidan could be a textual corruption.

34:31.360 --> 34:33.360
Oh, yeah, let's go with that one.

34:33.360 --> 34:34.360
No.

34:34.360 --> 34:36.360
Or a scribal error.

34:36.360 --> 34:37.360
No.

34:37.360 --> 34:41.360
Possibly arising from the similarity of Hebrew letters.

34:41.360 --> 34:44.360
These guys, man.

34:44.360 --> 34:47.360
Or the transmission of oral traditions.

34:47.360 --> 34:52.360
This theory suggests that the original text may have intended to refer to a different judge.

34:52.360 --> 34:55.360
See, they always want to just, oh, it's just a mistake.

34:55.360 --> 34:57.360
We can't figure it out, so it's a mistake.

34:57.360 --> 35:00.360
Despite the uncertainty, blah, blah, blah.

35:00.360 --> 35:02.360
So, I don't know.

35:02.360 --> 35:03.360
I don't know.

35:03.360 --> 35:08.360
The Bidan, because, well, there's B times.

35:08.360 --> 35:10.360
It's the early Dan.

35:10.360 --> 35:11.360
No.

35:11.360 --> 35:12.360
Huh?

35:12.360 --> 35:14.360
Yeah.

35:14.360 --> 35:16.360
Gotcha.

35:16.360 --> 35:17.360
Yeah.

35:17.360 --> 35:20.360
Either way, the name's only mentioned twice in Scripture.

35:20.360 --> 35:24.360
It's here and then also in 1 Chronicles chapter 7.

35:24.360 --> 35:27.360
So, it could be the same person.

35:27.360 --> 35:34.360
It fits the timeline because of the time of the birth of him that would be in the time of the judges.

35:34.360 --> 35:36.360
But I don't really know.

35:36.360 --> 35:41.360
And he's not mentioned in the timeline of the judges, but there's a lot of things that aren't mentioned.

35:41.360 --> 35:47.360
And then they get, well, it's like Enoch's words are not recorded in the Old Testament, necessarily.

35:47.360 --> 35:49.360
But they are recorded in the New Testament.

35:49.360 --> 35:50.360
Things like that.

35:50.360 --> 35:52.360
So, I don't know.

35:52.360 --> 35:55.360
It's kind of a little bit of a mystery.

35:55.360 --> 36:00.360
I don't think that there's anything that's super rock solid besides the fact that his name is only mentioned twice.

36:00.360 --> 36:01.360
Alright.

36:01.360 --> 36:05.360
Turn to 1 Corinthians chapter 10.

36:05.360 --> 36:07.360
1 Corinthians chapter 10.

36:07.360 --> 36:12.360
But my opinion is, you know, it probably is just the same guy.

36:12.360 --> 36:15.360
But that's just my, like, my opinion, man.

36:15.360 --> 36:23.360
So, anyway, I'll do some more studying about that.

36:23.360 --> 36:27.360
I felt like I was beating my head against the wall for quite a long time.

36:27.360 --> 36:31.360
1 Corinthians chapter 10, verse 4, the Bible says,

36:31.360 --> 36:38.360
And did all drink that same spiritual drink, and they drank of that spiritual rock that followed them, and that rock was Christ.

36:38.360 --> 36:42.360
But with many of them God was not well pleased, for they were overthrown in the wilderness.

36:42.360 --> 36:50.360
Now, these things were our examples to the intent that we should not lust after evil things, as they also lusted.

36:50.360 --> 36:54.360
Neither be ye adulterers, as were some of them.

36:54.360 --> 36:59.360
As it was written, as it is written, the people sat down to eat and drink and rose up to play.

36:59.360 --> 37:06.360
Neither let us commit fornication, as some of them committed, and fell one day three in twenty thousand.

37:06.360 --> 37:11.360
Neither let us tempt Christ, as some of them also tempted, and were destroyed of serpents.

37:11.360 --> 37:17.360
Neither murmur ye, as some of them also murmured, and were destroyed of the destroyer.

37:17.360 --> 37:30.360
Now, all these things happened unto them for in samples, and they are written for admonition upon whom the ends of the world are come.

37:30.360 --> 37:43.360
So, the Bible talks about all these examples from the Old Testament, but God is faithful, and Christ followed them around in the wilderness.

37:43.360 --> 37:47.360
It says that rock was Christ. There was a spiritual rock that followed them.

37:47.360 --> 37:53.360
And he's mentioning all these things of the Old Testament that they committed these wicked sins.

37:53.360 --> 38:00.360
And look what it says in verse 12, Wherefore, let him that thinketh he standeth take heed, lest he fall.

38:00.360 --> 38:06.360
There is no temptation taking you, but such is common to man, but God is faithful.

38:06.360 --> 38:14.360
So, see, God is faithful. We're not necessarily always faithful, but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that which you are able.

38:14.360 --> 38:21.360
But will, with the temptation, also make a way to escape that you may be able to bear it?

38:21.360 --> 38:27.360
So, God has made it to where we are able to bear temptation.

38:27.360 --> 38:33.360
So, when people say, well, I just couldn't help myself, you know, the devil made me do it, or whatever excuse people have to sin.

38:33.360 --> 38:40.360
And yeah, we do give in to sin, but it doesn't mean that God, it's not God's fault that we're doing that.

38:40.360 --> 38:45.360
And to say that the devil made me do it is a bad excuse.

38:45.360 --> 38:50.360
You know, our flesh overcame us, well, because you weren't being spiritual.

38:50.360 --> 38:58.360
There's always a reason. It's like, you know, it's like when you get in an accident, and somehow it's always made out to be your fault.

38:58.360 --> 39:00.360
There's some way that was your fault somehow at work.

39:00.360 --> 39:05.360
Have you ever been in like maybe some sort of a work accident, like maybe you hurt yourself at work or something?

39:05.360 --> 39:09.360
They always make it where somehow it was your fault and you could have done something better.

39:09.360 --> 39:12.360
But it really is that way when it comes to sin.

39:12.360 --> 39:19.360
I mean, that's what this verse is teaching, you know, and but God understands how we are.

39:19.360 --> 39:25.360
Even though he will give us a way to get out of the temptation, it doesn't mean that we always take the right way out.

39:25.360 --> 39:28.360
This is wherefore my dearly beloved flee from idolatry.

39:28.360 --> 39:40.360
If we would flee from things and get away from the situation, that would be helpful or not give provision to the flesh to fulfill the loss thereof and things like that.

39:40.360 --> 39:45.360
If we would put our own guards upon our hearts and upon our eyes and upon our ears,

39:45.360 --> 39:53.360
then we'd probably be out of a lot of situations that we wish we hadn't been in or do things that we wish we hadn't done.

39:53.360 --> 40:00.360
So but God is faithful and he is not going to allow us to be tempted about that which we're able to deal with.

40:00.360 --> 40:06.360
So we might be put in hard situations, but there's always a way to get out of it.

40:06.360 --> 40:08.360
It's what God's I mean, do you believe God's work or do you not?

40:08.360 --> 40:12.360
I mean, I believe his word.

40:12.360 --> 40:16.360
So turn to Second Timothy, Chapter two, Second Timothy, Chapter two.

40:16.360 --> 40:31.360
Second Timothy, Chapter two, Verse 11 says, Is a faithful sane, for if we be dead with him, we also live with him.

40:31.360 --> 40:34.360
If we suffer, we shall also reign with him.

40:34.360 --> 40:37.360
If we deny him, he also will deny us.

40:37.360 --> 40:43.360
If we believe not, yet he abideth faithful, he cannot deny himself.

40:43.360 --> 40:45.360
See how it says, yet he abided faithful.

40:45.360 --> 40:48.360
See God's faithfulness endures always.

40:48.360 --> 40:50.360
He's always faithful.

40:50.360 --> 40:53.360
There's times when we have lack of faith.

40:53.360 --> 41:02.360
Whatever it is in our life that we have a lack of faith on, there's people, all of us have times where we lack faith.

41:02.360 --> 41:06.360
I'm not saying, I'm not even talking about necessarily salvation or eternal security right here.

41:06.360 --> 41:08.360
I'm just talking about in general.

41:08.360 --> 41:10.360
There's times when we lack faith.

41:10.360 --> 41:14.360
There's times when we think, well, there's no way that this is going to happen.

41:14.360 --> 41:19.360
But if you have that attitude, then you're right, it probably isn't going to happen.

41:19.360 --> 41:23.360
Because you lack faith.

41:23.360 --> 41:32.360
But if it's something that God promised to do, and you lack faith, he is going to pick up a slack on that because he already promised and he is faithful.

41:32.360 --> 41:35.360
He's not going to let that promise fail no matter what.

41:35.360 --> 41:36.360
No matter what.

41:36.360 --> 41:39.360
That's why it says, he abided faithful.

41:39.360 --> 41:41.360
He cannot deny himself.

41:42.360 --> 42:00.360
See this is why it's so important to not just be messing around with false prophets and listening to their preaching and fighting with them.

42:00.360 --> 42:02.360
Why?

42:02.360 --> 42:05.360
Because this is subverting to the hearers.

42:05.360 --> 42:09.360
Because their bad doctrine can rub off on you.

42:09.360 --> 42:13.480
Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly

42:13.480 --> 42:15.720
dividing the word of truth.

42:15.720 --> 42:22.360
But shun profane and vain babblings, for they will increase unto more ungodliness.

42:22.360 --> 42:29.120
And their word will eat as doth a canker or cancer, of whom is Hymenaeus and Philetus,

42:29.120 --> 42:33.820
who concerning the truth have erred, saying that the resurrection is already past and

42:33.820 --> 42:35.720
overthrow the faith of some."

42:35.720 --> 42:40.480
See the end of messing around with people like this is that you can be affected by their

42:40.480 --> 42:42.560
bad doctrine.

42:42.560 --> 42:46.720
And this is why it's always advised to just not listen to these types of people.

42:46.720 --> 42:53.760
Even if it's just to see the dumpster fire sometimes, it's just a good thing to avoid

42:53.760 --> 42:56.040
the dumpster fire.

42:56.040 --> 43:01.400
Dumpsters stink, burning garbage stinks, and it's like there's better things to look at

43:01.400 --> 43:04.600
than garbage that's on fire.

43:04.600 --> 43:09.680
And Samuel here is reminding the children of Israel of the righteous acts of the Lord,

43:09.680 --> 43:15.420
even when the people of God just forget God and they fall into sin, the Lord still heard

43:15.420 --> 43:18.640
their cries though when they're ready to get right with him.

43:18.640 --> 43:23.940
That's the thing about God is that we can be the biggest betrayers of him sometimes,

43:23.940 --> 43:30.600
and sometimes just we're not thinking about him, we're not right with him, we aren't

43:31.600 --> 43:39.160
we're not reading our Bible, whatever it is that we're not doing right, and then we have

43:39.160 --> 43:44.440
this kind of like get right time, and then he's just right there.

43:44.440 --> 43:48.920
He's already being faithful to us because when we reach out to him, he's just already

43:48.920 --> 43:53.200
ready to reach out back to us.

43:53.200 --> 43:56.560
And he raises up deliverers every time for the children of Israel.

43:56.560 --> 44:00.780
We don't think that's a guide for us, that every time that they actually really meant

44:00.780 --> 44:06.920
it though, it's not like just oh please forgive me, blah blah blah and then go to bed.

44:06.920 --> 44:10.840
They actually were crying out to God because they're being oppressed.

44:10.840 --> 44:16.600
It's just a weird cycle that goes through the whole Old Testament of the Bible, but

44:16.600 --> 44:18.800
it goes through the New Testament too.

44:18.800 --> 44:21.600
It had problems too.

44:21.600 --> 44:24.840
People in the New Testament had problems too, and we have the same problem that the children

44:24.840 --> 44:29.180
of Israel had, whereas we have times where we're slumping.

44:29.180 --> 44:31.440
We have times where we're not being the best Christians.

44:31.440 --> 44:35.920
But you know what, God is the same yesterday, today, and forever, and he'll be right there

44:35.920 --> 44:39.720
for us the minute we're ready to jump right back in.

44:39.720 --> 44:43.580
So the thing that's different is that we have the Holy Spirit.

44:43.580 --> 44:46.660
They didn't have that necessarily at the time.

44:46.660 --> 44:52.500
But God was still ready to just show mercy again and again, and he's like that now too.

44:52.500 --> 44:56.940
So number three, rejecting God's laws brings God's chastening.

44:56.940 --> 44:58.660
Yes, God still does chasten you.

44:58.660 --> 45:00.260
Look at 1 Samuel 12, 12.

45:00.260 --> 45:08.220
It says, And when ye saw that Nahash the son of, or the king of the children of Ammon came

45:08.220 --> 45:13.720
against you, ye said unto me, Nay, but a king shall reign over us, when the Lord your God

45:13.720 --> 45:15.460
was your king.

45:15.460 --> 45:19.940
Now therefore behold the king whom ye have chosen, and whom ye have desired, and behold

45:19.940 --> 45:23.300
the Lord has set a king over you.

45:23.300 --> 45:29.140
If you will fear the Lord, and serve him, and obey his voice, and not rebel against

45:29.140 --> 45:35.380
the commandment of the Lord, then shall both ye and also the king that reigneth over you

45:35.380 --> 45:39.500
continue following the Lord your God.

45:39.500 --> 45:40.500
So what's he saying?

45:40.500 --> 45:44.220
He's saying, hey, just keep following God, you know.

45:44.220 --> 45:48.020
And even though you rebelled, you can still just keep following God.

45:48.020 --> 45:53.300
He says, verse 15, But if ye will not obey the voice of the Lord, but rebel against the

45:53.300 --> 45:58.460
commandment of the Lord, then shall the hand of the Lord be against you, as it was against

45:58.460 --> 46:00.060
your fathers.

46:00.060 --> 46:05.300
Now therefore stand and see this great thing which the Lord will do before your eyes.

46:05.300 --> 46:07.660
Is it not the wheat harvest today?

46:07.660 --> 46:12.700
I will call unto the Lord, and he shall send thunder and rain, that ye may perceive and

46:13.700 --> 46:18.820
that your wickedness is great, which ye have done in the sight of the Lord, and asking

46:18.820 --> 46:19.820
you a king.

46:19.820 --> 46:21.980
So was it wrong for them to ask for a king?

46:21.980 --> 46:22.980
Yes it was.

46:22.980 --> 46:25.340
He's just flat out saying it.

46:25.340 --> 46:26.980
It was.

46:26.980 --> 46:28.620
That's what their problem was.

46:28.620 --> 46:34.420
So Samuel called unto the Lord, and the Lord sent thunder and rain that day, and all the

46:34.420 --> 46:38.580
people greatly feared the Lord and Samuel.

46:39.420 --> 46:43.660
It wasn't just God that they feared, they feared Samuel too.

46:43.660 --> 46:47.180
So this day, because the first day of the wheat harvest, that should have been a day

46:47.180 --> 46:49.380
of celebration for them.

46:49.380 --> 46:52.260
That's like a big deal.

46:52.260 --> 46:55.420
They're supposed to be having some sort of mirth.

46:55.420 --> 46:57.340
The king just got inaugurated.

46:57.340 --> 46:59.300
God save the king.

46:59.300 --> 47:00.300
Cut down on the fields.

47:00.300 --> 47:01.940
Let's have a harvest party.

47:01.940 --> 47:03.940
This is supposed to be a great day.

47:03.940 --> 47:07.980
But instead it's like, you asked for a king though.

47:07.980 --> 47:09.220
Now it's going to rain.

47:09.220 --> 47:10.220
Now it's going to thunder.

47:10.220 --> 47:13.780
I don't know, who heard that thunder the other night?

47:13.780 --> 47:17.140
That was like thunder that's not normal for this area.

47:17.140 --> 47:18.500
I was like, what is that sound?

47:18.500 --> 47:19.500
I was like, that's thunder.

47:19.500 --> 47:26.220
And I don't know about you, but when I hear thunder, it immediately makes me think of

47:26.220 --> 47:28.100
God's angry.

47:28.100 --> 47:33.700
And maybe he's not, but I mean there's too many times in the Bible where thunder

47:33.700 --> 47:35.820
is God being angry.

47:35.820 --> 47:37.900
And I'm not saying that that's the only reason when thunder strikes.

47:37.900 --> 47:40.940
I'm just saying that thunder claps or whatever.

47:40.940 --> 47:47.800
But it's a scary feeling to feel that thunder, because you can feel it.

47:47.800 --> 47:53.460
And then you know that that rain's coming because it's not too far behind.

47:53.460 --> 47:54.460
And it can do damage.

47:54.460 --> 47:58.700
That lightning that strikes, it can do damage and burn places up.

47:58.700 --> 48:00.340
It can cause forest fires.

48:01.100 --> 48:07.340
Obviously, it's not going to cause a forest fire necessarily here, but the wind that comes

48:07.340 --> 48:10.820
from the storm and all that, it's scary.

48:10.820 --> 48:14.160
And it makes me think right away to repent.

48:14.160 --> 48:15.160
What have I done?

48:15.160 --> 48:19.180
I don't know about you, but that's exactly what I think immediately.

48:19.180 --> 48:25.900
I'm like, whatever I've done, Lord, just pass over my house.

48:25.900 --> 48:27.340
I'm saved.

48:27.340 --> 48:28.340
Whatever I've done, I'm sorry.

48:29.340 --> 48:31.060
I mean, I'm just being honest with you.

48:31.060 --> 48:32.260
Nobody else is listening anyway.

48:34.860 --> 48:36.420
And that's what you should think too.

48:36.420 --> 48:37.940
Because what is he doing?

48:37.940 --> 48:41.620
He's intentionally scaring them here.

48:41.620 --> 48:44.020
And they are afraid.

48:44.020 --> 48:47.820
But people are like, what do people outside of churches like this

48:47.820 --> 48:50.340
say when we preach stuff like this?

48:50.340 --> 48:52.380
You shouldn't be afraid of God.

48:52.380 --> 48:54.580
God is love.

48:54.580 --> 48:57.740
Yeah, well, there's love mixed in with this sermon that he's preaching.

48:57.740 --> 49:01.100
But he's also saying, but you've got to fear God also.

49:01.100 --> 49:04.500
Because if you don't, then you're going to do whatever you want.

49:04.500 --> 49:09.300
And we shouldn't just do whatever we want, because God will cloud up and rain on you.

49:09.300 --> 49:12.780
He will put the thunder and lightning upon your life.

49:12.780 --> 49:14.780
And he's just showing them his power.

49:14.780 --> 49:18.940
And he's showing them the power of God's word and the power of the man of God.

49:18.940 --> 49:23.180
He just prayed, and then God just did what he said.

49:23.220 --> 49:26.500
So obviously, Samuel had a lot of power with God.

49:26.500 --> 49:28.380
And God was with him.

49:28.380 --> 49:31.820
And God was with the message that he was preaching so much to the fact

49:31.820 --> 49:34.140
that he just did exactly what he said.

49:34.140 --> 49:35.500
Watch what happens.

49:35.500 --> 49:37.300
And then it's just like, boom.

49:37.300 --> 49:41.860
And I'm sure that wasn't just some normal thunder and lightning storm and rain.

49:41.860 --> 49:45.380
I'm sure it was something that scared them half to death.

49:45.380 --> 49:49.020
Because they're like, OK, we get it.

49:49.020 --> 49:50.980
Message received.

49:50.980 --> 49:52.980
Don't kill us.

49:53.020 --> 49:55.740
Because what are they instantly afraid of?

49:55.740 --> 49:58.140
They're instantly afraid of dying.

49:58.140 --> 50:04.140
Because it does put dread in your heart when you hear the claps of thunder.

50:04.140 --> 50:08.220
Brother Bill, is it worse on the East Coast when thunder and lightning happen?

50:08.220 --> 50:10.340
Yeah, we all have baby lightning.

50:10.340 --> 50:11.380
Yeah, we have baby lightning.

50:11.380 --> 50:12.980
I've heard that before, though.

50:12.980 --> 50:15.140
Like, Nia and Brandon live in Texas now.

50:15.140 --> 50:18.260
And they're like hiding in closets and stuff when the storms are coming.

50:18.260 --> 50:20.060
Every place in the South is more bad.

50:20.060 --> 50:22.420
Yeah.

50:22.420 --> 50:24.380
That's why there's churches on every corner in the South.

50:24.380 --> 50:27.540
Because they all know what happens.

50:27.540 --> 50:29.300
God gets angry.

50:29.300 --> 50:33.940
But a few nights ago, those loud cracks of thunder,

50:33.940 --> 50:36.940
it got me definitely fearing right away.

50:36.940 --> 50:41.020
And they're afraid of the Lord's man here, too.

50:41.020 --> 50:45.300
And again, there's that modern belief that we should never fear God.

50:45.300 --> 50:46.860
We should never be afraid.

50:46.860 --> 50:50.540
And that God's men should never be feared either.

50:50.580 --> 50:53.780
There should all be like Joel Osteen, big smiles on their faces,

50:53.780 --> 51:00.060
big million dollar tooth jobs, and tooth, yeah, teeth jobs, tooth,

51:00.060 --> 51:01.860
whatever, however you would say that.

51:01.860 --> 51:05.380
But he's just always like, hi.

51:05.380 --> 51:07.100
God's not mad at you at all.

51:07.100 --> 51:09.500
He's just happy.

51:09.500 --> 51:12.500
Don't let the devil steal your joy.

51:12.500 --> 51:14.180
All that stuff.

51:14.180 --> 51:16.420
But it's just always positive.

51:16.420 --> 51:18.900
And look, there's nothing wrong with positive messages.

51:18.900 --> 51:20.260
There's nothing wrong with it.

51:20.260 --> 51:24.300
If that's all it is, then what are they getting out of it?

51:24.300 --> 51:27.740
How is their life being fixed at all?

51:27.740 --> 51:29.060
It's not.

51:29.060 --> 51:31.940
And Samuel's not just giving only negative.

51:31.940 --> 51:33.620
He's giving positive in here, too.

51:33.620 --> 51:36.540
But he's also mixing it together.

51:36.540 --> 51:39.060
And then he's just like, well, here's what's going to happen.

51:39.060 --> 51:39.580
Boom, boom.

51:39.580 --> 51:41.820
He's just like, the thunder's clapping.

51:41.820 --> 51:44.300
And it rains all day.

51:44.300 --> 51:48.300
And he's just giving a little, here's what you can expect

51:48.300 --> 51:51.740
if you don't obey the Lord, if you don't serve the Lord,

51:51.740 --> 51:53.700
if you don't keep his commandments.

51:53.700 --> 51:55.540
And look, obviously, we're in the New Testament.

51:55.540 --> 52:00.980
And we're not required to keep the law as some sort of a way

52:00.980 --> 52:04.980
to, we're not under the law.

52:04.980 --> 52:07.020
We're under the New Testament.

52:07.020 --> 52:08.180
We're under grace.

52:08.180 --> 52:11.780
But that doesn't mean that we don't keep God's moral law.

52:11.780 --> 52:14.460
That doesn't mean that we can just do whatever we want.

52:14.460 --> 52:16.940
And God's not going to be mad.

52:16.940 --> 52:18.220
That's ridiculous.

52:18.220 --> 52:21.860
That is Joyce Meyer's teaching.

52:21.860 --> 52:23.900
That is Joe Jones teaching.

52:23.900 --> 52:25.780
That is not what the Bible teaches.

52:25.780 --> 52:28.060
Because all the way through the New Testament,

52:28.060 --> 52:30.900
it brings us up over and over again.

52:30.900 --> 52:34.060
And it brings it up in Hebrews chapter 10.

52:34.060 --> 52:37.180
It brings it up all over the Bible.

52:37.180 --> 52:40.060
Why is he bringing, why are Old Testament concepts brought

52:40.060 --> 52:41.620
into the New Testament and saying, hey,

52:41.620 --> 52:43.860
don't be like these guys in the wilderness that

52:43.860 --> 52:48.300
died 23,000 in one day, flee idolatry.

52:48.300 --> 52:49.900
No, idolatry is just fine, man.

52:49.900 --> 52:54.020
You can just wear Jesus as a cross necklace around your,

52:54.020 --> 52:57.780
no, don't wear Jesus as a cross necklace around your neck.

52:57.780 --> 52:59.540
Because that's idolatry.

52:59.540 --> 53:01.940
Jesus isn't on the cross anymore, number one.

53:01.940 --> 53:05.700
And number two, you're not supposed to make images of God.

53:05.700 --> 53:07.700
And Jesus is God.

53:07.700 --> 53:09.200
And you don't know what he looked like.

53:09.200 --> 53:10.740
And you know what he didn't look like?

53:10.780 --> 53:14.300
He didn't look like a skinny hippie with long hair.

53:14.300 --> 53:15.380
OK?

53:15.380 --> 53:17.860
So that shouldn't be around your neck.

53:17.860 --> 53:19.820
When you walk into a church, it shouldn't

53:19.820 --> 53:23.260
have statues of a bunch of angels and demons

53:23.260 --> 53:24.580
all over the place.

53:24.580 --> 53:27.620
And Mary praying for us because she's not

53:27.620 --> 53:29.900
the one that prays for us.

53:29.900 --> 53:32.340
And we shouldn't have to walk into a building

53:32.340 --> 53:34.780
and kiss a bunch of icons of saints

53:34.780 --> 53:36.780
that you don't know what they look like.

53:36.780 --> 53:38.300
And you know what you're doing?

53:38.300 --> 53:40.620
You're kissing the lips of every person

53:40.620 --> 53:43.020
that kissed those things before you.

53:43.020 --> 53:46.900
How many people have herpes in the Orthodox church?

53:46.900 --> 53:48.180
It's probably an epidemic.

53:51.500 --> 53:53.140
I mean, maybe they use Windex in between.

53:53.140 --> 53:54.500
I don't know.

53:54.500 --> 53:56.420
Maybe that's why Windex is such a big deal

53:56.420 --> 53:57.820
in the Greek community.

53:57.820 --> 54:00.020
I don't know.

54:00.020 --> 54:00.860
That's the connection.

54:00.860 --> 54:03.340
I just made it.

54:03.340 --> 54:07.060
That's why they use Windex for everything.

54:07.060 --> 54:10.660
But look, Israel's demand for a king,

54:10.660 --> 54:15.580
it revealed fear, unbelief, and a desire

54:15.580 --> 54:19.060
to trust human government more than divine leadership.

54:19.060 --> 54:19.980
They wanted a king.

54:19.980 --> 54:21.780
The king's going to save them.

54:21.780 --> 54:23.940
And Samuel made it clear that when people move away

54:23.940 --> 54:26.700
from God's authority, they invite sorrow and correction

54:26.700 --> 54:27.460
in their lives.

54:27.460 --> 54:28.860
That's what he's teaching them.

54:28.860 --> 54:32.060
He's saying, hey, you want to desire a king?

54:32.060 --> 54:33.740
God's your king.

54:33.740 --> 54:36.540
You left your king.

54:36.580 --> 54:39.300
And today, the Old Life Bees are more worried

54:39.300 --> 54:42.260
about who's getting elected and what mayor's

54:42.260 --> 54:46.060
going to be on their platform and what flags from Israel

54:46.060 --> 54:49.020
they're going to fly in their building

54:49.020 --> 54:54.500
and what's happening in Israel than what they

54:54.500 --> 54:55.780
should be worrying about.

54:55.780 --> 54:58.740
People getting saved, preaching right doctrine.

54:58.740 --> 55:01.740
How about just preaching doctrine, period?

55:01.740 --> 55:06.580
They saved the doctrine for times when, I don't know,

55:06.580 --> 55:07.500
what the cameras aren't rolling.

55:07.500 --> 55:07.980
I don't know.

55:07.980 --> 55:11.020
When do they actually preach doctrine anymore?

55:11.020 --> 55:13.420
Maybe some churches do, but they don't put it on the internet

55:13.420 --> 55:16.460
because they know people get upset.

55:16.460 --> 55:18.660
They don't want people to leave their churches.

55:18.660 --> 55:20.460
So they don't preach doctrine because there's

55:20.460 --> 55:21.780
a lot of people that believe different things

55:21.780 --> 55:22.940
in their church.

55:22.940 --> 55:24.540
They're afraid to preach stuff.

55:24.540 --> 55:26.000
They're afraid to preach because they

55:26.000 --> 55:28.740
know if they preach it, people will leave.

55:28.740 --> 55:31.500
Deacons will fire them or whatever else

55:31.500 --> 55:33.220
they're afraid of.

55:33.220 --> 55:35.060
And it's sad because you shouldn't

55:35.060 --> 55:37.220
be afraid to preach what the truth is.

55:37.220 --> 55:40.140
And if people don't like it, then they should just

55:40.140 --> 55:40.860
leave.

55:40.860 --> 55:41.540
But you know what?

55:41.540 --> 55:44.460
Just because you learn something new

55:44.460 --> 55:46.260
and you think that you're right about it,

55:46.260 --> 55:49.100
it doesn't mean I have to tiptoe around your new belief

55:49.100 --> 55:51.020
because I'm not going to.

55:51.020 --> 55:54.020
I'm going to preach what I believe the Bible teaches.

55:54.020 --> 55:55.620
And I'm not going to apologize for it.

55:55.620 --> 55:56.780
And I'm not going to go, oh, well,

55:56.780 --> 55:58.500
you don't believe that God punishes people anymore?

55:58.500 --> 56:00.740
Well, I'm just not going to preach about that anymore.

56:00.740 --> 56:03.180
You don't believe in the universal church now?

56:03.180 --> 56:04.020
Oh, OK.

56:04.020 --> 56:05.100
Well, you know what?

56:05.100 --> 56:06.900
Our church doesn't believe that.

56:06.900 --> 56:08.980
So I'm not going to tiptoe around that.

56:08.980 --> 56:10.300
You don't believe, oh, you don't believe

56:10.300 --> 56:11.540
you have to go to church anymore?

56:11.540 --> 56:12.260
Well, guess what?

56:12.260 --> 56:13.760
That's not what our church believes.

56:13.760 --> 56:15.820
And we've never believed that.

56:15.820 --> 56:20.420
So go into the woods and then pretend

56:20.420 --> 56:22.540
that that's where two or three are gathered in my name

56:22.540 --> 56:24.420
or whatever you believe about that.

56:24.420 --> 56:27.220
I've been hearing that crap my whole Christian life.

56:27.220 --> 56:30.340
But we're already in church.

56:30.380 --> 56:32.460
Me and my dogs and I got the fishing poles.

56:32.460 --> 56:34.460
I'm headed out to church right now.

56:34.460 --> 56:37.420
That's not church, you idiot.

56:37.420 --> 56:39.860
Church means congregation.

56:39.860 --> 56:41.940
You're not congregating with your fish

56:41.940 --> 56:44.540
that are in the bucket next to you or something.

56:44.540 --> 56:46.860
You know, you got the little talking fish or whatever.

56:46.860 --> 56:50.980
You know, the people that had the fish, whatever.

56:50.980 --> 56:54.580
Nature is not God's congregation.

56:54.580 --> 56:55.740
I know that people think that.

56:55.740 --> 56:57.700
I know the people worship animals now.

56:57.700 --> 57:01.980
But that's just not what God's talking about.

57:01.980 --> 57:05.620
So last thing here really quickly, verse 19.

57:05.620 --> 57:09.020
Repentance and reverence restore the people of God.

57:09.020 --> 57:11.140
Verse 19, and all the people said unto Samuel,

57:11.140 --> 57:15.780
pray for thy servants unto the Lord thy God, that we die not.

57:15.780 --> 57:19.100
For we have added unto all our sins this evil

57:19.100 --> 57:20.500
to ask us a king.

57:20.500 --> 57:21.460
So what are they doing?

57:21.460 --> 57:23.380
They're admitting their sin, aren't they?

57:23.380 --> 57:27.060
And Samuel said unto the people, fear not.

57:27.060 --> 57:28.860
You have done all this wickedness,

57:28.860 --> 57:31.620
yet turn not aside from following the Lord,

57:31.620 --> 57:33.780
but serve the Lord with all your heart.

57:33.780 --> 57:37.340
And turn ye not aside, for then should you

57:37.340 --> 57:42.460
go after vain things, which cannot profit nor deliver,

57:42.460 --> 57:43.580
for they are vain.

57:43.580 --> 57:44.780
So what's he saying here?

57:44.780 --> 57:45.660
And this is really important.

57:45.660 --> 57:47.660
This is probably the most important part

57:47.660 --> 57:48.740
of this whole thing.

57:48.740 --> 57:51.060
He's saying, hey, you know, you've

57:51.060 --> 57:52.860
admitted that you've done wrong.

57:52.860 --> 57:54.500
Fear not, though.

57:54.500 --> 57:56.220
You have done all this wickedness,

57:56.220 --> 57:58.420
yet turn not aside from following the Lord.

57:58.420 --> 57:59.820
Yeah, you've admitted you've sinned.

57:59.820 --> 58:01.020
You have sinned.

58:01.020 --> 58:02.620
But that doesn't mean to quit.

58:02.620 --> 58:05.700
We used to have this guy in our youth group named Rudy.

58:05.700 --> 58:07.940
And every time things would start to go bad in his life,

58:07.940 --> 58:11.620
he'd always say, I'm done.

58:11.620 --> 58:13.940
I'm going back to my old life.

58:13.940 --> 58:16.140
Like, that's the answer when things are going wrong

58:16.140 --> 58:17.500
or when you've done something wrong

58:17.500 --> 58:18.900
and you've been called out on it.

58:18.900 --> 58:22.940
It's just, I'm just going to go back to my old life.

58:22.940 --> 58:25.100
That's like saying, I'm going back to Egypt.

58:25.100 --> 58:26.760
I'm going back to the world.

58:26.760 --> 58:28.620
That's not the answer.

58:28.620 --> 58:29.780
And Peter did that.

58:29.780 --> 58:32.940
When he denied the Lord three times, what did he do?

58:32.940 --> 58:35.500
He went back to Galilee and went fishing again

58:35.500 --> 58:38.100
and thought he was just going to quit being an apostle,

58:38.100 --> 58:40.020
quit being a follower.

58:40.020 --> 58:43.140
And Jesus is like, no, that's not what you're doing.

58:43.140 --> 58:44.780
You need to put down the fishing nets

58:44.780 --> 58:46.580
and come and follow me.

58:46.580 --> 58:47.220
Feed my sheep.

58:47.220 --> 58:47.860
Feed my lambs.

58:47.860 --> 58:49.340
Feed my sheep.

58:49.340 --> 58:52.740
So Peter tried to do that.

58:52.740 --> 58:54.740
That's not what he wants.

58:54.740 --> 58:56.700
He just wants us to get it right.

58:56.700 --> 58:58.120
He just wants us to get back up.

58:58.120 --> 59:01.060
The Bible says in Proverbs 24, verse 16,

59:01.060 --> 59:04.020
for a just man falls seven times and riseth up again,

59:04.020 --> 59:06.100
but the wicked fall into mischief.

59:06.100 --> 59:08.680
So we shouldn't be wicked and just fall into mischief,

59:08.680 --> 59:10.980
just go get out of church.

59:10.980 --> 59:15.700
And hey, I just can't keep up this appearance

59:15.700 --> 59:17.380
that I'm just so good all the time.

59:17.380 --> 59:19.400
Who's saying you have to do that?

59:19.400 --> 59:21.660
Nobody's saying you have to do that.

59:21.660 --> 59:22.860
Nobody's perfect.

59:22.860 --> 59:25.260
Nobody's just sinless in this room.

59:25.260 --> 59:27.220
Nobody's sinless in this church.

59:27.220 --> 59:29.100
But what is Samuel saying here?

59:29.100 --> 59:29.940
Yeah, you sinned.

59:29.940 --> 59:31.340
You did something wrong.

59:31.340 --> 59:33.940
But don't turn away from following the Lord.

59:33.940 --> 59:34.700
Look at it again.

59:37.820 --> 59:39.700
You have done all this wickedness,

59:39.700 --> 59:42.580
yet turn not aside from following the Lord,

59:42.580 --> 59:45.300
but serve the Lord with all your heart.

59:45.300 --> 59:48.580
And turn you not aside, for then should you

59:48.580 --> 59:52.660
go after vain things, like things that mean nothing,

59:52.660 --> 59:57.540
things that are worthless, which cannot profit nor deliver,

59:57.540 --> 59:59.380
for they are vain.

59:59.380 --> 01:00:02.300
Look, there's nothing back in the world for you.

01:00:02.300 --> 01:00:04.740
There's nothing back in your old life for you

01:00:04.740 --> 01:00:07.900
that you're going to find any enjoyment out of.

01:00:07.900 --> 01:00:10.300
You might think that you are, but you're not.

01:00:10.300 --> 01:00:12.100
It's never going to be the same.

01:00:12.100 --> 01:00:14.660
It's never going to be like it was before.

01:00:14.660 --> 01:00:16.460
And so you're just wasting your time

01:00:16.460 --> 01:00:18.660
doing vain things that aren't going to help you anyway.

01:00:21.580 --> 01:00:23.140
1 John chapter 1.

01:00:23.140 --> 01:00:24.300
1 John chapter 1.

01:00:24.300 --> 01:00:25.180
I'm almost done.

01:00:25.180 --> 01:00:25.700
I really am.

01:00:25.700 --> 01:00:27.580
Sorry.

01:00:27.580 --> 01:00:29.340
1 John chapter 1.

01:00:29.340 --> 01:00:30.300
Here's the thing.

01:00:30.300 --> 01:00:32.660
People were self-deceptive.

01:00:32.660 --> 01:00:34.820
And we like to lie to ourself.

01:00:34.820 --> 01:00:38.420
And we deceive ourselves sometimes.

01:00:38.420 --> 01:00:42.260
It says, if we say that we have no fellowship with Him,

01:00:42.260 --> 01:00:44.460
if we say, excuse me, if we say that we have fellowship

01:00:44.500 --> 01:00:48.420
with Him and walk in darkness, we lie and do not the truth.

01:00:48.420 --> 01:00:50.260
So there's people that say that they're

01:00:50.260 --> 01:00:51.500
in fellowship with Jesus.

01:00:51.500 --> 01:00:53.500
But in reality, they're walking in darkness.

01:00:53.500 --> 01:00:55.700
They're not doing what they're supposed to be doing.

01:00:55.700 --> 01:00:57.500
It says they do not the truth.

01:00:57.500 --> 01:01:00.220
But if we walk in the light, as He is in the light,

01:01:00.220 --> 01:01:02.260
we have fellowship one with another.

01:01:02.260 --> 01:01:04.540
And the blood of Jesus Christ, His Son,

01:01:04.540 --> 01:01:07.100
cleanseth us from all sin.

01:01:07.100 --> 01:01:09.900
If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves

01:01:09.900 --> 01:01:11.100
and the truth is not in us.

01:01:11.100 --> 01:01:12.340
Look, everybody sins.

01:01:12.340 --> 01:01:13.900
That's what it's saying.

01:01:13.940 --> 01:01:17.140
We are deceiving ourselves that we say that we don't.

01:01:17.140 --> 01:01:19.660
But if we confess our sins, He's faithful and just

01:01:19.660 --> 01:01:22.260
to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us

01:01:22.260 --> 01:01:24.020
from all unrighteousness.

01:01:24.020 --> 01:01:25.420
That's what He expects.

01:01:25.420 --> 01:01:30.300
He expects us to admit it, just like they admitted it up here.

01:01:30.300 --> 01:01:34.300
But if we say we have not sinned, we make Him a liar

01:01:34.300 --> 01:01:36.500
and His word is not in us.

01:01:36.500 --> 01:01:39.380
It just shows that you're not reading your Bible.

01:01:39.380 --> 01:01:41.340
You're not being very spiritual at all.

01:01:41.340 --> 01:01:44.180
Because if you say that you haven't sinned,

01:01:44.180 --> 01:01:46.740
you're just making Him a liar because it's just

01:01:46.740 --> 01:01:48.700
ridiculous to say that.

01:01:48.700 --> 01:01:50.940
And His word is not really abiding in you.

01:01:50.940 --> 01:01:54.660
So back to 1 Samuel chapter 12, verse 22.

01:01:54.660 --> 01:01:57.700
Look, He doesn't want us to quit.

01:01:57.700 --> 01:02:01.620
He just wants us to get right and get back up again.

01:02:01.620 --> 01:02:04.900
Because if you're a just man, if you're a just lady,

01:02:04.900 --> 01:02:06.540
you're going to get back up.

01:02:06.540 --> 01:02:08.460
You're going to get back in the fight.

01:02:08.460 --> 01:02:11.180
1 Samuel 12, 22 says, for the Lord will not

01:02:11.180 --> 01:02:15.660
forsake His people for His great name's sake,

01:02:15.660 --> 01:02:19.540
because it hath pleased the Lord to make you His people.

01:02:19.540 --> 01:02:22.100
Moreover, as for me, God forbid that I

01:02:22.100 --> 01:02:25.340
should sin against the Lord by ceasing to pray for you.

01:02:25.340 --> 01:02:28.260
But I will teach you the good and right way.

01:02:28.260 --> 01:02:32.260
This is the job of a pastor, of a preacher,

01:02:32.260 --> 01:02:34.900
is to teach the right way.

01:02:34.900 --> 01:02:38.020
Only fear the Lord and serve Him in truth

01:02:38.060 --> 01:02:40.020
with all your heart.

01:02:40.020 --> 01:02:43.900
For consider how great things He hath done for you.

01:02:43.900 --> 01:02:47.060
And that's a good motivating factor, right?

01:02:47.060 --> 01:02:48.460
Remember what God's done for you.

01:02:48.460 --> 01:02:49.500
Remember that He saved you.

01:02:49.500 --> 01:02:52.220
Remember He gave you eternal life.

01:02:52.220 --> 01:02:55.860
Remember the things, the former things that you used to be.

01:02:55.860 --> 01:02:58.820
And serve Him.

01:02:58.820 --> 01:03:01.180
It's our reasonable service.

01:03:01.180 --> 01:03:04.900
But if you shall still do wickedly,

01:03:04.900 --> 01:03:08.900
ye shall be consumed both ye and your king.

01:03:08.900 --> 01:03:12.260
So he's like, hey, you still want to be stupid?

01:03:12.260 --> 01:03:15.060
You still want to just be wicked?

01:03:15.060 --> 01:03:19.620
Then you're going to be consumed.

01:03:19.620 --> 01:03:23.180
And he's just going to keep beating you until you're done.

01:03:23.180 --> 01:03:24.380
And what did he do with Saul?

01:03:24.380 --> 01:03:27.140
He went back and started being wicked

01:03:27.140 --> 01:03:28.700
and started doing wicked things.

01:03:28.700 --> 01:03:31.940
And what did he end up finally doing when he went to the witch?

01:03:31.940 --> 01:03:33.020
He kills him.

01:03:33.020 --> 01:03:35.180
He allows him to be killed.

01:03:35.180 --> 01:03:38.660
It says in Proverbs 14, 34, it says,

01:03:38.660 --> 01:03:40.580
righteousness exalted the nation,

01:03:40.580 --> 01:03:44.100
but sin is a reproach to any people.

01:03:44.100 --> 01:03:47.540
Joshua 24, verse 14 says, now therefore, fear the Lord

01:03:47.540 --> 01:03:49.780
and serve Him in sincerity and in truth

01:03:49.780 --> 01:03:51.980
and put away the gods which your fathers served

01:03:51.980 --> 01:03:56.180
on the other side of the flood and in Egypt

01:03:56.180 --> 01:03:58.820
and serve ye the Lord.

01:03:58.820 --> 01:04:02.380
So he just wants you to serve Him

01:04:02.380 --> 01:04:04.900
and to follow Him.

01:04:04.900 --> 01:04:09.620
And when we sin, we need to get back up and dust ourself off

01:04:09.620 --> 01:04:12.820
and get back in the fight and not to quit.

01:04:12.820 --> 01:04:14.340
And that's the biggest thing.

01:04:14.340 --> 01:04:16.300
I think that's talked about so much in the Bible

01:04:16.300 --> 01:04:18.220
because a lot of people do quit.

01:04:18.220 --> 01:04:19.260
A lot of people do give up.

01:04:19.260 --> 01:04:20.420
And they say, this is just too hard.

01:04:20.420 --> 01:04:21.220
I just can't do this.

01:04:21.220 --> 01:04:25.620
And what's hard is going back to that life

01:04:25.620 --> 01:04:28.020
and being mocked and ridiculed for it

01:04:28.020 --> 01:04:35.340
and ending up as a quitter.

01:04:35.340 --> 01:04:38.660
Quitters are not highly looked upon with favor.

01:04:38.660 --> 01:04:42.820
So in conclusion, as Samuel closed his address here,

01:04:42.820 --> 01:04:45.140
he left Israel with this message.

01:04:45.140 --> 01:04:48.100
And it still speaks today, though, doesn't it?

01:04:48.100 --> 01:04:50.900
It's just like the modern message

01:04:50.900 --> 01:04:52.860
that we all need to hear.

01:04:52.860 --> 01:04:55.860
And God honors integrity.

01:04:55.860 --> 01:04:58.580
He remembers every generation.

01:04:58.580 --> 01:05:02.180
And He judges rebellion.

01:05:02.180 --> 01:05:05.860
And He receives those who return to Him in sincerity.

01:05:05.860 --> 01:05:11.460
And the call of this chapter is simple yet powerful.

01:05:11.460 --> 01:05:12.980
Fear the Lord.

01:05:12.980 --> 01:05:15.660
Serve Him with truth with all your heart.

01:05:15.660 --> 01:05:17.220
And never forget the great things

01:05:17.220 --> 01:05:18.820
that He's done for you.

01:05:18.820 --> 01:05:21.980
And if we stay faithful to Him, His mercy will sustain us

01:05:21.980 --> 01:05:25.020
and His hand will lead us in the right way.

01:05:25.060 --> 01:05:27.260
And His word will lead us in the right way.

01:05:27.260 --> 01:05:29.660
We still have these words of Samuel.

01:05:29.660 --> 01:05:31.380
It's a great message that Samuel preaches.

01:05:31.380 --> 01:05:35.540
This is like basically a sermon.

01:05:35.540 --> 01:05:38.380
1 Samuel 12 is just basically a sermon from Samuel.

01:05:38.380 --> 01:05:39.300
It's pretty cool.

01:05:39.300 --> 01:05:40.860
I like it.

01:05:40.860 --> 01:05:44.180
And then we got the mystery man.

01:05:44.180 --> 01:05:45.540
Be Dan.

01:05:45.540 --> 01:05:46.420
Badan.

01:05:46.420 --> 01:05:46.940
Whatever.

01:05:46.940 --> 01:05:47.460
OK.

01:05:47.460 --> 01:05:47.740
All right.

01:05:47.740 --> 01:05:48.060
Let's pray.

01:05:48.060 --> 01:05:50.220
Lord, we thank you so much for this chapter.

01:05:50.220 --> 01:05:52.700
And Lord, help us to be right in our hearts toward you

01:05:52.740 --> 01:05:55.340
and to remember the great things that you've done for us, Lord.

01:05:55.340 --> 01:05:57.860
And help us to remember where we were before we were saved

01:05:57.860 --> 01:06:01.660
and to remember what great salvation you've given to us.

01:06:01.660 --> 01:06:04.140
Help us to not get too high and lifted up

01:06:04.140 --> 01:06:07.100
in thinking that we did something when it was actually

01:06:07.100 --> 01:06:09.180
that you that did it for us.

01:06:09.180 --> 01:06:12.980
Help us to love you and to serve you

01:06:12.980 --> 01:06:15.180
and to train up the next generation.

01:06:15.180 --> 01:06:18.460
Help us to be red hot for soul winning.

01:06:18.460 --> 01:06:23.060
Help us to, Lord, to love doctrine

01:06:23.060 --> 01:06:26.500
and to love the truth and to not be ashamed of the church

01:06:26.500 --> 01:06:29.380
that we go to and not be ashamed of our brethren

01:06:29.380 --> 01:06:31.180
that we go to church with.

01:06:31.180 --> 01:06:34.740
And help us to love each other and help us forgive each other

01:06:34.740 --> 01:06:38.420
and help us to go to you when we sin

01:06:38.420 --> 01:06:40.540
and to ask us to be cleansed, Lord.

01:06:40.540 --> 01:06:43.060
And pray that you just bless us as we go our separate ways

01:06:43.060 --> 01:06:44.540
here and take us home safely.

01:06:44.540 --> 01:06:45.540
In Jesus' name we pray.

01:06:45.540 --> 01:06:47.060
Amen.

01:06:48.460 --> 01:06:56.060
All right, David.

01:06:56.060 --> 01:07:00.380
It's funny that the different perspective you have being on a plane like Texas or Kansas

01:07:00.380 --> 01:07:05.060
versus the mountains of West Virginia, because we just sit on the porch and watch the lightning

01:07:05.060 --> 01:07:06.980
like it was a firework show.

01:07:06.980 --> 01:07:10.740
But if you're out in the plains, like you don't know if your house is going to get taken

01:07:10.740 --> 01:07:13.740
away like Toto in Wizard of Oz.

01:07:13.740 --> 01:07:15.980
All right.

01:07:15.980 --> 01:07:19.620
370.

01:07:19.620 --> 01:07:31.620
Christ is all I need.

01:07:31.620 --> 01:07:34.620
All together on the first.

01:07:34.620 --> 01:07:39.180
Christ is all I need.

01:07:39.180 --> 01:07:44.460
Christ is all I need.

01:07:44.460 --> 01:07:52.260
All I need.

01:07:52.260 --> 01:07:56.820
Christ is all I need.

01:07:56.820 --> 01:08:02.060
Christ is all I need.

01:08:02.060 --> 01:08:10.060
All I need.

01:08:10.660 --> 01:08:17.660
Christ is all I need.

01:08:17.660 --> 01:08:22.660
All I need.

01:08:22.660 --> 01:08:27.660
Christ is all I need.

01:08:27.660 --> 01:08:30.660
All I need.

01:08:30.660 --> 01:08:35.660
Christ is all I need.

01:08:35.660 --> 01:08:38.660
All I need.

01:08:38.660 --> 01:08:45.660
Christ is all I need.

01:08:45.660 --> 01:08:46.660
Amen.

01:08:46.660 --> 01:08:47.660
Good to see you.

01:08:47.660 --> 01:08:48.660
Brother Eli, can you close us with a prayer?

01:08:48.660 --> 01:08:49.660
Heaven and Father, Lord, thank you for your word.

01:08:49.660 --> 01:08:50.660
Father, thank you that we've got an oasis here that we can come and hear your word preached,

01:08:50.660 --> 01:08:51.660
Lord, and get away from the world for a while.

01:08:51.660 --> 01:08:52.660
Lord, I pray that we go out with your word, Lord, and preach it to others, how we can be

01:08:52.660 --> 01:08:53.660
more successful in the world.

01:08:53.660 --> 01:08:54.660
Thank you.

01:08:54.660 --> 01:08:55.660
Amen.

01:08:55.660 --> 01:08:56.660
Amen.

01:08:56.660 --> 01:08:57.660
Amen.

01:08:57.660 --> 01:08:58.660
Amen.

01:08:58.660 --> 01:08:59.660
Amen.

01:08:59.660 --> 01:09:00.660
Amen.

01:09:00.660 --> 01:09:01.660
Amen.

01:09:01.660 --> 01:09:02.660
Amen.

01:09:02.660 --> 01:09:03.660
Amen.

01:09:03.660 --> 01:09:04.660
Amen.

01:09:04.660 --> 01:09:05.660
We're dismissed.
