sermon this evening entitled abiding in the word. 36:39.780 --> 36:41.380 Abiding in the word. 36:41.380 --> 36:43.060 And I want to go through this chapter for a moment. 36:43.060 --> 36:44.900 The Bible says in verse 1. 36:44.980 --> 36:49.300 I am the true vine and my father is the husbandman. 36:49.300 --> 36:52.980 Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he take it away. 36:52.980 --> 36:58.100 And every branch that beareth fruit he purgeth it that it may bring forth more fruit. 36:58.100 --> 36:59.140 So this is a parable. 36:59.780 --> 37:06.580 Jesus Christ is using the picture of a vine bearing fruit to picture a spiritual truth 37:06.580 --> 37:13.460 of abiding in the Lord Jesus Christ and abiding in him to create spiritual fruit. 37:13.460 --> 37:16.180 Will be spiritual fruit that would be soul saved. 37:16.180 --> 37:20.260 This would be getting people saved by abiding in Christ says in verse 3. 37:20.820 --> 37:25.220 Now you're clean through the word which I have spoken on you. 37:25.220 --> 37:28.660 Notice what cleanses you is the word. 37:28.660 --> 37:31.380 The word of God is what cleanses us. 37:31.380 --> 37:36.660 Verse 4 abide in me and I and you as the branch cannot bear fruit of itself. 37:36.660 --> 37:38.740 Except that abide in the vine. 37:38.740 --> 37:42.180 No more can ye except ye abide in me. 37:43.140 --> 37:45.860 I am the vine you're the branches. 37:45.860 --> 37:50.260 He that abided in me and I am him the same bringeth forth much fruit. 37:50.260 --> 37:52.660 For without me ye can do nothing. 37:52.660 --> 37:54.340 So the Bible is crystal clear. 37:54.340 --> 38:02.740 The only way to get people saved the only way to bear fruit is to be abiding in the vine. 38:02.740 --> 38:08.420 And for you to be plugged into this vine because without it you cannot produce fruit. 38:08.420 --> 38:11.540 Just like you look at an actual vineyard. 38:11.540 --> 38:14.420 You look at a plant that's producing grapes. 38:14.420 --> 38:18.100 If it's not plugged into the root if it got cut off it's going to be dead. 38:18.100 --> 38:19.700 It's not going to produce any fruit. 38:19.700 --> 38:23.300 It has to be plugged into that root so it's getting the nutrients in the water. 38:23.300 --> 38:28.260 And therefore it can create fruit in the same way that we have to be abiding in Christ. 38:28.260 --> 38:29.220 In order to do the same. 38:29.780 --> 38:34.900 Now it says in verse 6 if a man abide not in me he is cast forth as a branch and is withered. 38:34.900 --> 38:38.020 And then gather them and cast them into 38:46.580 So I want to point out a few things here in this chapter. 38:46.580 --> 38:50.500 Notice number 3 said that what cleanses us is the word of God. 38:52.180 --> 38:56.660 The Bible tells us in verse number 7 here he says if ye abide in me, 38:56.660 --> 39:04.420 notice this, and my words abide in you ye shall ask what ye will and it shall be done unto you. 39:04.420 --> 39:07.940 This gives us the clue to understand his entire chapter. 39:08.340 --> 39:14.740 What is the chapter really describing here is the fact that to abide in Christ means to abide in 39:14.740 --> 39:15.700 his word. 39:15.700 --> 39:16.580 That's what it means. 39:17.140 --> 39:23.620 You know he's not giving us just some abstract idea that has no real practical solution. 39:23.620 --> 39:29.940 The practical solution is that this is Jesus Christ and by abiding in his words is what it 39:29.940 --> 39:31.140 means to abide in him. 39:31.700 --> 39:34.500 And without him you can do nothing. 39:34.500 --> 39:38.980 And if you have his word abiding in you then you can bear much fruit. 39:38.980 --> 39:41.700 Without his word you're not going to bear much fruit. 39:41.700 --> 39:44.900 That is why those who are not saved can do nothing. 39:45.700 --> 39:48.180 The Catholics cannot accomplish anything. 39:48.180 --> 39:50.100 The Catholics cannot get anyone saved. 39:50.660 --> 39:53.300 The Orthodox cannot get anyone saved. 39:53.300 --> 39:53.620 Why? 39:53.620 --> 39:55.700 Because they're not abiding in Christ. 39:55.700 --> 39:59.700 They're obviously not saved themselves and they don't have the word of God dwelling in them. 39:59.700 --> 40:03.140 They're not abiding in the word of God and without the word of God they can do nothing. 40:05.140 --> 40:06.180 He says in verse number eight, 40:06.180 --> 40:10.340 Here it is my father glorified that you bear much fruit so shall you be my disciples. 40:10.340 --> 40:13.060 As the father loved me so have I loved you. specifically I've made it known unto you. 41:06.100 --> 41:07.860 So Christ isn't holding anything back. 41:07.860 --> 41:13.220 He's saying I have I have let you know every single thing that God wants you to know. 41:13.220 --> 41:17.380 This matches if you think about what Christ says in Luke chapter number four where he says man 41:17.380 --> 41:20.180 doth not live by bread alone but by every word of God. 41:20.180 --> 41:22.660 God wants us to have every single word. 41:22.660 --> 41:25.460 Jesus Christ did not hold back any single word. 41:25.460 --> 41:27.300 He gave them every single word. 41:28.260 --> 41:31.860 Now he says in verse 16 you have not chosen me but I have chosen you and ordained you 41:31.860 --> 41:37.220 that you should go forth go and bring forth fruit and that your fruit should remain that 41:37.220 --> 41:40.260 whatsoever you shall ask of the father in my name he may give it you. 41:41.060 --> 41:43.140 These things I command you that you love one another. 41:43.140 --> 41:46.100 If the world hate you you know that it hated me before it hated you. 41:46.100 --> 41:50.100 If you're of the world the world will love its own but because you're not of the world 41:50.100 --> 41:53.860 but I have chosen you out of the world therefore the world hateth you. 41:53.860 --> 41:59.140 So you know we have all these different things where the Bible is kind of telling us about 41:59.140 --> 42:01.940 Christ and how the world hates him. 42:01.940 --> 42:03.300 It doesn't necessarily hate us. 42:03.300 --> 42:04.420 It hates Christ. 42:04.420 --> 42:09.780 Says in verse 20 remember the word that I said unto you the servant is not greater than his 42:09.780 --> 42:15.140 Lord if they have persecuted me they will also persecute you if they have kept my saying 42:15.780 --> 42:17.540 they will keep yours also. 42:17.540 --> 42:22.500 Now why in the world would they keep your saying because it's not your saying you're 42:22.500 --> 42:23.540 saying what Christ said. 42:24.420 --> 42:28.500 Why because the word of God abides in you and if the word of God abides in you then you deliver 42:28.500 --> 42:32.900 his message therefore if they're going to keep Jesus saying they would keep yours because 42:32.900 --> 42:37.220 you're saying what Jesus said because you have the word of God in you. 42:37.220 --> 42:41.380 Now again I want you to think about this chapter again in another light. 42:41.380 --> 42:45.380 We've just gone through it we've talked about a little bit because the Bible talks about Jesus 42:45.380 --> 42:50.180 Christ being the word of God and if we think about what it's saying in this particular chapter 42:50.180 --> 42:54.420 and we think about it from the word of God perspective then we kind of get another 42:54.420 --> 42:54.980 understanding. 42:54.980 --> 42:56.500 Think about this in verse 18. 42:56.500 --> 43:00.340 If the world hate you you know that it hated me before it hated you. 43:00.340 --> 43:05.380 Look the world hated the scripture hated the word of God before it ever hated me. 43:06.500 --> 43:13.620 People have been mad at every doctrine I teach before I ever existed before I ever even came 43:13.620 --> 43:15.780 as a twinkle in my father's eye. 43:15.780 --> 43:19.220 The world already hated the scripture and let me tell you something. 43:19.220 --> 43:22.420 The world hated the scripture before Jesus Christ was incarnated. 43:23.140 --> 43:29.460 They hated the word of God they despise God's word they rejected God's word throughout history. 43:29.460 --> 43:29.780 Why? 43:29.780 --> 43:36.980 Because they have free will and of course free will shows us by and large most people will reject 43:36.980 --> 43:37.780 the things of God. 43:37.780 --> 43:40.580 Most people will not accept the commandments of God. 43:40.580 --> 43:42.580 Man is very rebellious by nature. 43:43.300 --> 43:46.980 God made man upright but they have sought out many inventions. 43:47.700 --> 43:52.820 And the Bible makes it clear that hey God wants us to do right but unfortunately because of free 43:52.820 --> 43:55.060 will many people don't make that decision. 43:56.100 --> 43:59.940 Look at chapter 16 verse 13 now I'm gonna skip through to this portion. 43:59.940 --> 44:04.660 He says how be it when he the spirit of truth has come he will guide you in all truth for he shall 44:04.660 --> 44:11.620 not speak of himself who whatsoever he shall hear that shall he speak and he will show you things 44:11.620 --> 44:12.580 to come. 44:12.580 --> 44:17.540 Notice what he's saying here he's saying that the Holy Ghost is hearing things. 44:18.660 --> 44:21.460 Who is the Holy Ghost hearing stuff from? 44:23.220 --> 44:23.780 From God. 44:24.340 --> 44:28.820 It's God the Father's words is God the Father speaking and the Holy Ghost is what? 44:29.380 --> 44:31.940 Hearing and then the Holy Ghost is doing what? 44:31.940 --> 44:33.860 He's delivering it unto us. 44:33.860 --> 44:39.460 He says whatsoever he shall hear that shall he speak and he will show you things to come. 44:39.460 --> 44:40.740 So what does this mean? 44:40.740 --> 44:46.580 Well the Bible says holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost meaning that the 44:46.580 --> 44:50.180 Holy Ghost everything the Holy Ghost heard he delivered on demand. 44:50.980 --> 44:54.420 He gave it on demand by inspiration of God. 44:54.420 --> 44:59.140 So everything that God the Father gave to Jesus Christ to speak Christ spoke everything that's 44:59.140 --> 45:02.340 given to the Holy Ghost to speak he has spoken. 45:02.340 --> 45:07.460 So this would give us an indication that we have every single word of God given to us that God's 45:07.460 --> 45:13.620 not holding back anything that he's revealing unto us all of his word and we are to abide in 45:13.620 --> 45:16.420 the word because that is what it means to abide in Christ. 45:16.420 --> 45:17.540 Look at verse 14. 45:17.540 --> 45:18.660 He shall glorify me. 45:19.540 --> 45:20.340 Who's the he there? 45:22.180 --> 45:25.460 The Holy Ghost the Holy Ghost is going to glorify Jesus Christ. 45:26.900 --> 45:27.940 What does the scripture do? 45:30.820 --> 45:33.860 Isn't all the scripture just glorifying Jesus isn't it all about Jesus? 45:34.420 --> 45:40.660 So all the words the Holy Ghost heard he gave by inspiration through man and all it does is 45:40.660 --> 45:41.700 just glorify who? 45:41.700 --> 45:42.180 Christ. 45:42.820 --> 45:43.060 Right? 45:43.860 --> 45:47.700 So guess what? 45:59.540 --> 46:01.460 The Holy Ghost is speaking of what? 46:01.460 --> 46:06.180 He's getting the words of God from Jesus Christ and he's revealing them to man and 46:06.180 --> 46:07.140 he's revealing of who? 46:07.140 --> 46:09.380 Of Jesus Christ because it's his words. 46:09.380 --> 46:10.020 Right? 46:10.020 --> 46:10.980 Because he is the word. 46:12.420 --> 46:17.460 He says here in verse number 14 for he shall receive a mine and shall show it unto you. 46:17.460 --> 46:21.860 Notice this all things that the father hath are what? 46:23.220 --> 46:23.700 Are mine. 46:24.580 --> 46:25.380 What does that mean? 46:26.180 --> 46:27.940 Because Jesus Christ is the word of God. 46:28.580 --> 46:32.900 All the words that God the Father has are Jesus Christ because they're his. 46:33.620 --> 46:36.180 It's Christ that's the word and guess what? 46:36.180 --> 46:37.460 The Father is speaking the word. 46:37.460 --> 46:39.140 The Holy Ghost is hearing the word. 46:39.140 --> 46:44.260 The Holy Ghost is taking from the Son because it's his words and he's revealing unto his 46:44.260 --> 46:44.580 his words. 46:44.580 --> 46:49.780 We sing the Trinity working together here and notice what the origin of the words are. 46:49.780 --> 46:51.700 It's Jesus Christ every single time isn't it? 46:52.420 --> 46:53.460 What does the Father have? 46:53.460 -->
