18:11.940 But obviously, this is the part where we start getting into, 18:11.940 --> 18:13.580 in the book of John, we start getting 18:13.580 --> 18:17.140 into the details of the death of Jesus Christ. 18:17.140 --> 18:20.300 Now, the book of John is different in that it's 18:20.300 --> 18:23.540 telling more of, it's speaking more of actually Jesus 18:23.540 --> 18:25.100 and his character and some of his words, 18:25.100 --> 18:27.180 whereas other parts, other gospels 18:27.180 --> 18:29.700 give us more detail as to what is going on here. 18:29.700 --> 18:32.300 That's why we're 18:41.500 --> 18:45.220 And we clearly see that in the book of John, right? 18:45.220 --> 18:50.980 We see, especially in chapter 18, we see what Jesus comes in 18:50.980 --> 18:53.780 and he shows us what real power is, right? 18:53.780 --> 18:55.300 He's under control. 18:55.300 --> 18:56.460 He's not moved. 18:56.500 --> 18:57.780 There's no peer pressure. 18:57.780 --> 19:01.220 It doesn't even biggest characteristic is what Jesus said, you are of your father, the devil. 22:21.260 --> 22:23.740 He was a murderer from the beginning. 22:23.740 --> 22:27.740 And that's not just murder that we're accustomed to, that we know, you know, 22:27.740 --> 22:31.060 where you kill somebody and release them from their soul. 22:31.060 --> 22:35.860 But he's literally trying to kill people into the dealings. 23:58.940 --> 24:00.820 We need to be confident in our dealings. 24:00.820 --> 24:04.460 We need to come to the battle, not let the battle come to us. 24:04.460 --> 24:08.820 And what I mean by that is we're not picking a fight, but when the fight's there, we shouldn't retreat. 24:08.820 --> 24:10.180 We should just come forward. 24:10.180 --> 24:14.180 You know, I love that in when David is going against Goliath. 24:14.180 --> 24:18.380 I love that wording that says, and David hasted into battle. 24:18.380 --> 24:19.620 Meaning he was quick. 24:19.620 --> 24:21.500 He's like, I'm of men and officers from the chief priests and Pharisees, 24:53.260 --> 24:56.300 cometh thither with lanterns and torches and weapons. 24:56.300 --> 24:59.900 Jesus therefore knowing all things that how cool is it to have these verses? 25:28.580 --> 25:33.380 The Bible says he just spoke it, and there's so much power in God's word that they fell 25:33.380 --> 25:34.380 backwards. 25:34.380 --> 25:39.900 But it also proves a thing that humans are stubborn and hard headed, because you would 25:39.900 --> 25:44.660 think, you know, if that happened to someone in the spirit, we would cower at the presence 25:44.660 --> 25:45.660 of so much power. 25:45.660 --> 25:48.900 Instead, they were like, no, we're still going to take him to jail. 25:48.900 --> 25:55.220 We you know, the impetus and the arrogance to think that, hey, I can take down Jesus. 25:55.220 --> 26:00.260 He just proved that just by speaking his words, he can knock us down. 26:00.260 --> 26:03.580 But somehow they felt like they could still finish the job. 26:03.580 --> 26:06.860 That's how delusional the devil is. 26:06.860 --> 26:08.420 And I'm not bringing that's not a false accusation. 26:08.420 --> 26:09.780 He really thinks he's the most high. 26:09.780 --> 26:14.620 The Bible clearly tells us that he thinks he's, you know, he wants to be like the most 26:14.620 --> 26:15.620 high. 26:15.620 --> 26:19.060 And that's one of the attributes is that he's just implacable. 26:19.060 --> 26:20.420 He's not going to stop. 26:21.420 --> 26:22.540 this lie. 26:22.540 --> 26:24.740 And then he convinces others of this lie. 26:24.740 --> 26:27.020 All right, go over to John 10. 26:27.020 --> 26:28.020 Go over to John 10. 26:28.020 --> 26:29.020 I'll read for you really quick. 26:29.020 --> 26:39.700 And Isaiah 53, the Bible says in Isaiah 53. 26:39.700 --> 26:40.700 I'll go here. 26:40.700 --> 26:41.700 Isaiah 53. 26:41.700 --> 26:42.700 Real quick. 26:42.700 --> 26:46.900 You guys go to John 10. 26:47.380 --> 26:51.420 Right there in verse seven, the Bible says he was oppressed and he was afflicted, yet 26:51.420 --> 26:52.860 he opened not his mouth. 26:52.860 --> 26:58.060 He is brought as a lamb to the slaughter and as a sheep before he shears his dumb. 26:58.060 --> 27:00.660 So he opened not his mouth. 27:00.660 --> 27:01.660 And we see that, right? 27:01.660 --> 27:06.940 I mean, we see the small interaction, but once it's committed, once he's condemned here 27:06.940 --> 27:09.780 on this earth, then he no longer speaks. 27:09.780 --> 27:10.780 Right? 27:10.780 --> 27:15.900 In John 10 verse 14, we see here, he says, I am the good shepherd and my and know my 27:15.900 --> 27:19.420 sheep and am known of mine. 27:19.420 --> 27:28.380 And the father knoweth me, even so I, the father, even so now, so now I, sorry about 27:28.380 --> 27:34.620 that, even so know I the father and I lay down my life for the sheep and other sheep 27:34.620 --> 27:40.260 I have, which are not of this died, he took his life, you know, he took 28:14.740 --> 28:18.980 that power, got the father was involved and the Holy Spirit. 28:18.980 --> 28:22.260 And then when he's risen from the game, because other places tell us that God raised them 28:22.260 --> 28:24.100 from the dead. 28:24.100 --> 28:25.260 It's God Almighty. 28:25.260 --> 28:28.060 All three of them are involved in this because he says, I take it again. 28:28.060 --> 28:29.060 Right. 28:29.060 --> 28:34.260 I have the power, but also then he says the this commandment that I mean, have I received 28:34.260 --> 28:35.620 of my father. 28:35.620 --> 28:42.740 This also clears up the other false doctors we get on the Trinity that Jesus is submissive 28:42.740 --> 28:43.740 to God the father. 28:43.740 --> 28:47.460 I mean, literally, if you get a commandment and your obedience to that commandment, that 28:47.460 --> 28:50.620 means somebody gave it to you and you're obeying that. 28:50.620 --> 28:51.620 Right. 28:51.620 --> 28:56.180 Go over to Matthew, just go back a few to the very first book in the New Testament, 28:56.180 --> 29:00.220 Matthew 26, Matthew 26. 29:00.220 --> 29:06.220 We see another account of this and right there in verse 50, it says, and Jesus said unto 29:06.220 --> 29:13.340 him, friend, Matthew 26, verse 50, Jesus said unto him, friend, where art thou come? 29:13.340 --> 29:14.900 They came. 29:14.900 --> 29:17.940 Then they came and laid hands on Jesus and took him. 29:17.940 --> 29:20.380 Notice he called Judas friend, right? 29:20.380 --> 29:25.220 And he says, hey, and they laid hands on him and took him and behold, one of them, which 29:25.220 --> 29:26.660 were with Jesus stretched out his hand. 29:26.660 --> 29:31.100 And we know from this account that it's Peter and drew his sword and struck a servant of 29:31.100 --> 29:33.420 the high priest and smote off his ear. 29:33.420 --> 29:38.100 Then Jesus said, then said Jesus unto him, put away thy sword into this place. 29:38.100 --> 29:41.260 For all they that take the sword shall perish with the sword. 29:41.260 --> 29:46.420 Think it's thou that I cannot pray to my father and he shall presently give me more than 12 29:46.420 --> 29:48.760 legions of angels. 29:48.760 --> 29:53.660 But how then shall the scriptures be fulfilled that it must be? 29:53.660 --> 29:56.700 And so that thus it must be. 29:56.700 --> 30:01.280 So we know when Jesus makes it clear and other parts of the gospel too, that he has the power 30:01.280 --> 30:06.220 to do this thing, but that's not the power that the ultimate power, the ultimate show 30:06.220 --> 30:11.980 of power is the fact that he gave up his life for us, that he took it and he took it back 30:11.980 --> 30:12.980 again. 30:12.980 --> 30:13.980 Right? 30:13.980 --> 30:18.620 And it's not this split nature where he was in human nature. 30:18.620 --> 30:21.920 He was 100% divine in his manhood. 30:21.920 --> 30:23.640 And that's the thing that makes him different, right? 30:23.640 --> 30:28.920 Because he went to hell as a man, but also 100% God. 30:28.920 --> 30:32.960 That's why he was able to conquer and he was able to be raised on the third day. 30:32.960 --> 30:36.720 Because when we die, first of all, we couldn't raise our bodies. 30:36.720 --> 30:40.880 Second of all, the only thing that's going to raise our incorruptible bodies into a, 30:40.880 --> 30:46.120 I mean, I'm sorry, our corruptible bodies and incorruptible body is God Almighty, is 30:46.120 --> 30:47.880 Jesus Christ. 30:47.880 --> 30:49.400 That's the difference, right? 30:49.400 --> 30:52.040 He was the one in control. 30:52.040 --> 30:53.960 He's the one that made it happen. 30:53.960 --> 30:58.360 And so much so that it actually shows us his power by saying, hey, I am he. 30:58.360 --> 30:59.360 And they all fell. 30:59.360 --> 31:00.360 Can you imagine if I had that power? 31:00.360 --> 31:03.640 Like, I'm like, I am he and all these pews just went backwards and you guys all fell. 31:03.640 --> 31:06.000 You know, that'd be wild. 31:06.000 --> 31:12.720 That's literally what, you know, is showing us here, you know, except for the pews, right? 31:12.720 --> 31:15.640 So point number one was this, Jesus steps forward. 31:16.120 --> 31:19.320 You know, that's a, how do we make that application for us today? 31:19.320 --> 31:23.880 Hey, when people question us on the gospel, we should be clear, right? 31:23.880 --> 31:29.000 We should be very, you know, one of the things that we see here in John 18 is Jesus is very 31:29.000 --> 31:30.480 clear in his answers, right? 31:30.480 --> 31:32.560 They ask him a question and he's clear. 31:32.560 --> 31:38.000 But when they ask him, when he asks a question, they're not, you know, what does Pilate say? 31:38.000 --> 31:39.000 You know, am I a Jew? 31:39.000 --> 31:43.960 You know, one of the things I hate is when I ask someone a question and then they answer 31:43.960 --> 31:47.000 me what they think I want to hear instead of just answering me the question, right? 31:47.000 --> 31:52.520 Like, I'm like, especially in a work setting, it's like maybe let's say, hey, what time is it? 31:52.520 --> 31:54.080 Right? Just something simple like that. 31:54.080 --> 31:57.320 And they're like, oh, you know, I didn't get around to doing that thing you asked. 31:57.320 --> 31:58.200 I'm not even asking that. 31:58.200 --> 31:59.520 I just want to know what time it is. 31:59.520 --> 32:00.920 Like, what time is it? 32:00.920 --> 32:04.480 That's all I care about, you know, but the reason is because people are not clear. 32:04.480 --> 32:07.480 They're not transparent and they're not willing to own up to stuff. 32:07.480 --> 32:11.160 Jesus was like, hey, everything I said is out of the open. 32:11.160 --> 32:12.080 I'm transparent. 32:12.120 --> 32:13.760 What do you want to know? 32:13.760 --> 32:19.000 Right? So the biggest thing we need to always be is in the word. 35:47.240 --> 35:49.320 It has to be a daily thing. 35:49.320 --> 35:54.040 You know, one of the things that differentiates us even from other Baptist churches 35:54.040 --> 35:57.520 is that we're constantly imploring you, right? 35:57.520 --> 36:02.160 That we're constantly exhorting you to what? Read your Bible. 36:02.160 --> 36:05.400 Right?
