separation of church and hate separation of church and hate this morning i want to preach 01:35.520 --> 01:41.680 on the subject of biblical hatred and the importance of hating the things that god hates 01:41.680 --> 01:48.000 and we live in a day where many christians pastors churches have made the separation an unbiblical 01:48.000 --> 01:54.000 separation at that of church and hate meaning that they've denounced all manner of hatred as 01:54.000 --> 02:01.120 being sinful and in their attempts to appear loving gracious and acceptable before the eyes of the 02:01.120 --> 02:06.400 world they basically sought to completely remove hatred from christianity and that's why you have 02:06.400 --> 02:13.040 such watered down preaching today right you have a lot of preaching with no conviction no strictness 02:13.040 --> 02:18.560 in its doctrine intolerance for that which is wicked has increased exponentially why is that 02:18.560 --> 02:25.120 well because churches have made a separation between church and hate and in their minds 02:25.120 --> 02:31.440 church and hate cannot coexist therefore there must be a separation of the two and because they 02:31.440 --> 02:36.320 push this separation between church and hate churches have become weak pastors have become 02:36.320 --> 02:42.880 compromised and believers are easily offended okay because they tolerate what god condemns they 02:42.880 --> 02:47.840 accept what god rejects and you know just people are just easily offended at everything that's 02:47.840 --> 02:51.840 being preached the result of this is that false prophets are given the benefit of the doubt 02:51.840 --> 02:57.440 unfortunately right false doctrine isn't challenged it's allowed to just spread in the church 02:58.160 --> 03:03.840 going unchallenged and that which is abominable disgusting and filthy is excused under the banner 03:03.840 --> 03:10.080 of love why because churches have made a separation of church and hate but the reality is that you 03:10.080 --> 03:14.640 know we're not called to separate church and hate folks you know to the contrary we're called to 03:14.640 --> 03:20.880 unify them properly according to the bible and hatred is a biblical emotion that christians 03:20.880 --> 03:25.600 should have and in some instances are commanded to embrace and you know if you're hearing this 03:25.600 --> 03:30.400 for the first time you may be like having a meltdown right now thinking like whoa hold on a second 03:30.400 --> 03:37.600 i thought god is love and yeah god is love but not at the exclusion of hatred you know heaven exists 03:37.600 --> 03:44.560 eternal life exists but let me just remind you eternal damnation also exists hell exists and so 03:44.560 --> 03:50.080 you can't say that god is all love with no hate and believe in the concept of hell the reality of 03:50.080 --> 03:55.760 hell believe in eternal damnation and eternal punishment hell is a legitimate hatred is a 03:55.760 --> 04:01.920 legitimate thing in the eyes of god god is love but he's also a god of hate and you know we need 04:01.920 --> 04:07.600 to remove this you know jedi mentality from christianity now anybody who knows me knows 04:07.600 --> 04:13.760 you know i'm a geek for star wars i love star i'm a 90s kid or i'm not 90s anymore but you know i'm 04:13.760 --> 04:18.800 40 years old but i'm a 90s kid and i love star wars but when it comes to this particular subject 04:18.800 --> 04:23.040 you know that needs to be completely there needs to be a separation of that right and we need to 04:23.040 --> 04:28.960 recognize that the bible teaches us that hatred is a biblical emotion it's something that god does 04:28.960 --> 04:32.800 and it's something that he commands us to do as well as we're going to see in this particular 04:32.800 --> 04:38.800 sermon let me just say this is that often hatred operates as a meter of people's zeal and love for 04:38.800 --> 04:44.480 god so if you claim to love the lord you claim to have zeal for god but you have no hatred in your 04:44.480 --> 04:50.160 heart then you have a fake love a feigned love according to the bible okay because according to 04:50.160 --> 04:55.440 the bible if you look ye that love the lord listen to this hate evil now before i get into my main 04:55.440 --> 05:00.800 points let me start off by way of introduction examining the prohibition of sinful hatred 05:00.800 --> 05:06.640 because make no mistake about it there are you know hatred examples of hatred in the bible that 05:06.640 --> 05:12.080 are prohibited by god you know and it's very explicitly mentioned in the word of god although 05:12.080 --> 05:17.120 the bible explicitly permits hatred in its proper context there are definite explicit scriptures 05:17.120 --> 05:22.240 that condemn and prohibit christians from hating and we want to make sure that we never blend the 05:22.640 --> 05:27.360 two right so go with me if you would to first john chapter two hold your place there in psalm chapter 05:27.360 --> 05:32.720 five we're going to come back to that put a bookmark there or a pen in psalm chapter five go to first 05:32.720 --> 05:38.320 john chapter two let's talk about no hatred towards the brethren that's something that god for sure 05:38.320 --> 05:45.280 prohibits for us as christians to do is to hate other believers other christians other saved people 05:45.280 --> 05:51.760 it's prohibited and it's sinful for us to have any hatred in our hearts towards the brethren this is 05:51.760 --> 05:57.120 probably one of the strongest prohibitions in the new testament which is hatred towards fellow 05:57.120 --> 06:02.160 christians fellow believers and in fact this is such a sinful thing in the eyes of god that it 06:02.160 --> 06:07.680 actually god actually equates it to darkness and even murder in certain instances now before we 06:07.680 --> 06:12.800 read in first john chapter two let me read to you from john 13 and verse 34 it says a new commandment 06:12.800 --> 06:19.840 i give unto you that you love one another as i have loved you that you also love one another by this 06:19.840 --> 06:26.560 shall all men know that ye are my disciples if ye have love one to another so according to the bible 06:26.560 --> 06:31.840 one of the greatest expressions to this world that we are disciples of jesus christ is that when we 06:31.840 --> 06:37.680 express and have love toward one another towards other christians that is explicitly stated in john 06:37.680 --> 06:43.600 chapter 13 first thessalonians chapter four verse nine says this but as touching brotherly love 06:43.600 --> 06:49.280 ye need not that i write unto you for ye yourselves are taught of god to love one another 06:49.920 --> 06:53.680 what is it saying it's saying that when you become a christian that that's something that kind of 06:53.680 --> 07:00.320 comes naturally to a certain degree right to have love towards the brethren obviously what doesn't 07:00.320 --> 07:07.200 come naturally is how we express that love in deeds right to serve one another to serve god 07:07.200 --> 07:11.680 but according to the bible that's like a supernatural thing that is taught of us of god 07:11.680 --> 07:15.760 to love one another this is kind of showing me that you know we don't necessarily have to learn 07:15.760 --> 07:21.120 how to love one another or love god what needs to be taught is how to hate that's something that 07:21.120 --> 07:25.440 doesn't necessarily come naturally to hate the things that god hates is something that we have 07:25.440 --> 07:30.880 to learn according to the bible so the bible is telling us here that we are taught of god to love 07:30.880 --> 07:36.160 one another it tells us that by this shall all men know that we are his disciples if we have love 07:36.160 --> 07:41.600 one to another now look at first john chapter two verse nine it says he that saved he is in the light 07:41.760 --> 07:49.280 and hated this brother is in darkness even until now he that loveth his brother abideth in the light 07:49.280 --> 07:54.960 and there's none occasion of stumbling in him he that hated this brother is in darkness and 07:54.960 --> 08:01.040 walketh in darkness and knoweth not whether he goeth because that darkness had blinded his eyes 08:01.040 --> 08:06.480 here's a summary of what this is basically saying if you hate a brother in christ you are not right 08:06.480 --> 08:11.600 with god when it says that you are in darkness it's referring to the fact that you are involved 08:11.600 --> 08:18.880 in sin why because it's a sinful thing in the eyes of god to harbor any hatred animosity 08:18.880 --> 08:25.200 antagonistic emotions towards your brother in christ why because god wants us to love one another 08:25.200 --> 08:29.600 and here's the thing folks i believe this is explicitly referring to other saved people 08:30.560 --> 08:35.520 okay we obviously know that our default setting as christians is just in general love people 08:36.080 --> 08:40.080 but the bible tells us to show favor especially those of the household of faith 08:40.640 --> 08:45.840 and it's it specifically commands us to love our brothers and sisters in christ and so that's why 08:45.840 --> 08:49.360 it's important that if you ever have beef with another brother or sister in christ you better 08:49.360 --> 08:54.560 get that settled okay don't let it turn into resentment don't let it turn into bitterness 08:54.560 --> 08:59.920 and definitely don't let it turn into hatred towards your brother or sister in christ if you 08:59.920 --> 09:06.080 have some sort of odd against your brother go get that settled immediately it's not worth 09:06.080 --> 09:11.680 having god's hand against you because of your sin of hatred towards your brother you are in darkness 09:11.680 --> 09:16.640 and you cannot say with 100% assurance and honesty that you're right with god all the 09:16.640 --> 09:21.360 while hating your brother okay now look this there's a difference between hating your brother and not 09:21.360 --> 09:27.760 liking your brother though you can not like your brother i think that's a legitimate thing to do 09:27.760 --> 09:32.720 and the bible doesn't say hey you know you you cannot not like your brother you have to make 09:32.720 --> 09:37.200 sure you like your brother and no i believe the bible teaches us that we have to be diplomatic 09:37.200 --> 09:42.480 towards other christians as much as lies within us live peaceably with all men the bible tells us 09:42.480 --> 09:48.480 and obviously sometimes personalities collide sometimes people are just annoying sometimes 09:48.480 --> 09:53.600 people you know they just don't connect with other people like others do that's completely normal but 09:53.600 --> 09:57.040 the bible tells us that we cannot be malicious towards other brothers and sisters in christ 09:58.000 --> 10:02.800 why because we should show love one toward another and if there's someone in our church that you just 10:02.800 --> 10:08.400 don't like you know that you find them a little annoying maybe you just don't click maybe you 10:08.400 --> 10:14.800 guys are constantly clashing heads stay away from them be diplomatic with them be kind to them be 10:14.800 --> 10:21.920 loving to them don't be malicious towards them but steer clear of the people that may cause you 10:21.920 --> 10:27.840 to be tempted to hate them if you get involved in some sort of argument or whatever it may be 10:27.840 --> 10:33.200 at the end of the day it requires spiritual maturity to make sure that we love one another 10:33.200 --> 10:39.120 and sometimes from a distance right the point being is that we want to avoid hating our brother 10:39.120 --> 10:44.480 and sister in christ we want to avoid hating each other we want to make sure that we don't harbor 10:45.040 --> 10:51.840 any malicious intent any bad thoughts any hatred in our hearts towards the children of god because 10:51.840 --> 10:57.200 god says that if we do we're in darkness we're not right with god and as we're going to see in 10:57.200 --> 11:03.040 chapter 3 look at chapter 3 he equates it to murder it says in verse 14 we know first john chapter 3 11:03.040 --> 11:08.720 verse 14 we know that we have passed from death into life because we love the brethren he that 11:08.720 --> 11:16.080 loveth not his brother abideth in death whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer and ye know that 11:16.080 --> 11:20.160 no murderer hath eternal life abiding in him now i don't believe this is referring to the fact that 11:20.160 --> 11:25.840 if a christian finds himself in a situation where he hates his brother and sister in christ because 11:25.840 --> 11:31.200 he's just sinful he's being carnal he's abiding in darkness this means that he's not saved i believe 11:31.200 --> 11:35.440 this what's being stated here is what we see in ephesians chapter 5 if you can go there go to 11:35.440 --> 11:40.400 ephesians chapter 5 let's look at it real quick because we can easily read first john chapter 3 11:40.400 --> 11:45.840 and kind of come to the conclusion like oh man is this saying that like if i hate my fellow christian 11:45.840 --> 11:50.160 that that means i'm just not saved and you can see how people can pervert that scripture into 11:50.160 --> 11:56.240 teaching that right to say oh you hate so and so you're not saved because the bible says here 11:56.240 --> 12:01.840 that no murderer hath eternal life abiding in him look at ephesians chapter 5 and verse number five 12:01.840 --> 12:07.760 it says for this you know that no whoremonger nor unclean person nor covetous man who is an idolater 12:07.760 --> 12:13.360 hath any inheritance in the kingdom of christ and of god let no man deceive you with vain words for 12:13.360 --> 12:18.640 because of these things come at the wrath of god upon the children of disobedience so we see here 12:18.640 --> 12:23.520 that he's obviously addressing christians and we obviously know that christians have the capability 12:23.520 --> 12:28.640 of being whoremongers they have the capability of being covetous they have the capability of 12:28.640 --> 12:36.160 being unclean being idolaters which is why the bible commands us not to do that if once you got 12:36.160 --> 12:40.560 saved batteries came included and you never sinned once after that you just kept all of god's 12:40.560 --> 12:45.440 commandments that there should be no command to do right the reason the command exists is because 12:45.440 --> 12:50.400 god knows that we have the propensity to commit sin when we abide in darkness when we are walking 12:50.400 --> 12:55.440 in the flesh right and it specifically says here in verse number six that these things come at the 12:55.440 --> 13:01.280 wrath of god upon the children of disobedience this is another way of saying the unsaved verse 13:01.280 --> 13:08.160 seven says be not ye therefore partakers with them what is he saying don't be like them 13:09.120 --> 13:14.960 so you know we obviously know that for these sins the wrath of god comes upon the unsaved 13:14.960 --> 13:18.720 don't be like the unsaved is what he's saying he's not saying that you're not going to inherit 13:18.720 --> 13:24.000 eternal life he's saying you should not be characterized by the sins that characterize 13:24.000 --> 13:29.440 the unsaved he says in verse eight for ye were sometimes darkness but now are you light in the 13:29.440 --> 13:35.600 lord walk as children of life so what i believe first john chapter three is saying is that no 13:35.600 --> 13:40.640 murder have eternal life which is true so don't be like the unsafe who don't have eternal life 13:41.280 --> 13:45.440 now the fact of the matter is though is that many christians unfortunately do behave like unsafe 13:45.440 --> 13:51.280 people they do hate their fellow brothers and sisters in christ and it's not right you know 13:51.280 --> 13:57.200 we have to work at learning how to forgive we have to work at learning how to reconcile we have to 13:57.200 --> 14:02.720 learn how to you know be at peace with our brothers and sisters in christ and it's easy to have peace 14:02.720 --> 14:07.920 with those who are peaceful with us it's another thing to try to exercise peace with someone who 14:07.920 --> 14:12.880 doesn't want peace that's where true christian virtue comes into play right that's where the 14:12.880 --> 14:19.760 challenge lies but this is where when you become a good christian is by becoming peaceable loving 14:20.320 --> 14:26.480 gracious merciful towards those who don't reciprocate that to you first john chapter four 14:26.480 --> 14:30.160 turn with me if you would to matthew chapter five go to matthew chapter five if you would first 14:30.160 --> 14:35.840 john chapter four verse 20 says if a man say i love god and hated this brother listen to this he's 14:35.840 --> 14:42.160 a liar so if you're sitting there saying no i love god i love the bible but let me say this you hate 14:42.160 --> 14:47.440 your spouse you hate your brother and sister in christ you hate you know your fellow christian 14:47.440 --> 14:53.920 the bible says you're a liar you do not the truth for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath 14:54.640 --> 15:01.200 how can he love god whom he hath not seen the bible says and this commandment have we from him 15:01.200 --> 15:06.960 that he who loveth god loveth his brother also sounds to me like god is very much concerned with 15:06.960 --> 15:14.160 us loving one another right making sure that we keep our hearts clear of any hatred towards the 15:14.160 --> 15:19.040 brethren now don't misunderstand me here you know sometimes people say oh man you're calling out 15:19.040 --> 15:24.160 this person you're calling out this sin that's unloving but that's not necessarily the case now 15:24.160 --> 15:29.040 is it because the command to call out sin and the command to love our brother are able to be done 15:29.040 --> 15:34.240 at the same time and so if they're able to be done at the same time that means i can call out sin 15:34.240 --> 15:39.600 i can call people out who are saved and still love them and in fact according to the bible if i love 15:39.600 --> 15:45.280 them i'll call them out if i love someone i'm going to rebuke them if i love them i will 15:45.280 --> 15:51.520 reprove them because that's what a good preacher a good pastor someone who loves the truth should 15:51.520 --> 15:56.320 do in fact according to the bible the person who doesn't tell you the truth is the person who doesn't 15:56.320 --> 16:00.320 love you they're the ones who don't want to tell you to have cancer they're the ones who don't 16:00.320 --> 16:03.600 want to tell you your disease they're the ones who don't want to tell you that you are destroying 16:03.600 --> 16:08.480 your life they don't care about you the person who actually cares about you is willing to offend you 16:08.480 --> 16:14.560 in order to correct your steps okay the bible also says in romans 12 verse 18 if it be possible 16:14.560 --> 16:19.920 as much as lies lies within you live peaceably with all men dearly beloved listen to this avenge 16:19.920 --> 16:25.680 not yourselves but rather get placed into wrath for it is written vengeance is mine i will repay 16:25.680 --> 16:31.440 say the lord so what this is teaching us is that you know if you harbor the danger of harboring 16:31.440 --> 16:37.600 hatred towards your brother and sister in christ is that there may be a desire to have vengeance 16:37.600 --> 16:44.080 upon them for whatever wrong they did to you that is what essentially evolves from a hatred of towards 16:44.080 --> 16:48.160 your brother's sisters in christ is that you want vengeance you want to be recompensed whereas the 16:48.160 --> 16:53.360 bible tells us that you need to give place unto wrath you need to give that unto the lord allow 16:53.360 --> 16:59.280 the lord to deal with that situation forgive that individual and in fact if you harbor some sort of 16:59.280 --> 17:03.440 resentment towards someone that you can't control then pray unto the lord say lord if i'm in the 17:03.440 --> 17:08.560 wrong forgive me but if they're in the wrong punish them there's nothing wrong with imprecatory 17:08.560 --> 17:13.280 prayers my friends because here's the thing if you're praying for god to punish someone 17:13.280 --> 17:18.640 and he does it that means it was according to his will if you pray for god to punish someone and he 17:18.640 --> 17:24.080 doesn't then guess what it's not according to his will so at the end of the day we need to make sure 17:24.640 --> 17:31.520 that we don't act out our vengeance we don't act out our hatred and we we keep a clean heart before 17:31.520 --> 17:37.360 the lord not desire and vengeance upon our brothers and sisters in christ by being malicious towards 17:38.000 --> 17:44.080 you know uh being dishonest towards them seeking their heart their hurt or their harm we need to 17:44.080 --> 17:47.920 make sure that we love them look at matthew chapter 5 verse 43 it says you have heard that 17:47.920 --> 17:53.280 have been said thou shall love thy neighbor and hate thy enemy verse 44 but i say to you love your 17:53.280 --> 17:58.880 enemies bless them that curse you do good to them that hate you and pray for them which despitefully 17:58.880 --> 18:05.520 use you and persecute you and i want you to notice verse 45 that ye may be the children of your father 18:05.520 --> 18:12.240 which is in heaven for he maketh his son to rise on the evil and on the good and sendeth rain on 18:12.240 --> 18:16.560 the just and on the unjust so two things regarding this this passage that we just read in matthew 18:16.560 --> 18:22.800 chapter 5 first and foremost this is addressing those who are our personal enemies someone who 18:22.800 --> 18:28.080 stole money from you someone who is you know just doesn't like you because of your personality 18:28.080 --> 18:33.120 someone you have beef with for whatever you know frivolous reason these are the enemies that matthew 18:33.120 --> 18:39.280 chapter 5 are referring to secondly matthew chapter 5 is basically describing what our 18:39.280 --> 18:44.880 default setting should be in general and how do we know that well because verse 45 tells us 18:45.680 --> 18:52.160 that we may be the children of our father which is in heaven who makes the son to rise on the evil 18:52.160 --> 18:58.400 and on the good right he sends rain on the just and on the unjust does this does this mean that 18:58.400 --> 19:02.720 god loves the workers of iniquity no because we just read in psalm 55 that he hates the workers 19:02.720 --> 19:09.040 of iniquity what this is saying here is that god's default setting is love and our default setting as 19:09.040 --> 19:15.520 well is love meaning that we don't go around just hating people we go around first and foremost 19:15.520 --> 19:22.640 with the disposition and the default setting of just loving people in general unless they cross 19:22.640 --> 19:28.400 a boundary a biblical boundary whereby they merit righteous hatred understand so it's not like we 19:28.400 --> 19:32.800 just look for people to hate or something right just because psalm 55 says so you know in general 19:32.800 --> 19:37.520 we just love people and how do how do you know that we as a church love people well how about 19:37.520 --> 19:42.880 the fact that we give people the gospel how about the fact that we spend thousands of dollars and 19:43.520 --> 19:50.400 hundreds of hours and hundreds of of people to go out and we send them out to different parts of 19:50.400 --> 19:54.320 the world to preach the gospel to the loss because we want them to know the love of god 19:54.800 --> 19:59.280 and what's funny to me is that people criticize pastors like oh you're so hatred but these same 19:59.280 --> 20:04.800 people don't preach the gospel they're not actually going out there and invest in their time 20:04.800 --> 20:10.640 and their talents and energy leaving their families and their spouses and children to go out and 20:10.640 --> 20:17.360 preach the word of god and get people saved that's what true love is is to want to get people saved 20:17.360 --> 20:22.480 and so it's important for us to realize that we our default setting setting should always be to 20:22.480 --> 20:27.440 love people unless they cross that biblical boundary whereby they merit righteous hatred 20:27.440 --> 20:32.160 according to the bible okay now turn with me if you would go back to psalm 5 if you would psalm 20:32.160 --> 20:37.840 chapter 5 and let me also say this in that regard is that we should be characterized by forgiveness 20:38.400 --> 20:43.360 okay the bible tells us that let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and evil speaking be 20:43.360 --> 20:49.040 put away from you with all malice be kind one to another tender hearted forgiving one another even 20:49.040 --> 20:54.400 as god for christ's sake has forgiven you the bible tells us that we should be characterized 20:54.400 --> 20:58.160 by forgiveness and you know what the best way to learn forgiveness is just do it 20:58.160 --> 21:03.840 immediately as soon as you're offended don't let time pass from the offense you know don't let 21:03.840 --> 21:08.320 don't let the gap be too large from the time that you're offended to the time that you forgive 21:08.320 --> 21:14.320 because the more time you give yourself to just think upon that offense to just think upon you 21:14.320 --> 21:19.360 know your anger to think upon the wrath the less likely it is that you will forgive the person who 21:19.360 --> 21:24.480 offended you the best thing to do is just not let the sun go down upon your wrath the best thing to 21:24.480 --> 21:28.800 do is once you're offended immediately forgive that person in your heart and don't wait for that 21:28.800 --> 21:33.440 person to come to you to ask for forgiveness either but if they do come ask for forgiveness forgive 21:33.440 --> 21:40.320 them you know and and this is
