WEBVTT 00:00.200 --> 00:02.440 He shall surely be put to death. 00:02.440 --> 00:05.800 And if a man lie not in wait, but God deliver him into his hand, 00:05.800 --> 00:08.840 then will I appoint thee a place where he shall flee. 00:08.840 --> 00:12.680 But if a man come presumptuously upon his neighbor 00:12.680 --> 00:19.880 to slay him with guile, thou shall take him from my altar that he may die. 00:19.880 --> 00:23.640 The title of my sermon this morning is Insanity Makes You Copable. 00:23.640 --> 00:26.520 Insanity Makes You Copable. 00:26.520 --> 00:28.040 Here in Exodus 21, 00:28.200 --> 00:34.200 We find that if a person plans to deliberately and deceptively take a person's life, they 00:34.200 --> 00:37.720 are guilty of murder regardless of mental and social conditions. 00:37.720 --> 00:38.720 Okay? 00:38.720 --> 00:39.720 They're still guilty of murder. 00:39.720 --> 00:47.640 It talks about them lying in wait, waiting presumptuously, slaying him with guile. 00:47.640 --> 00:51.320 These are all phrases that involve what we would call today premeditated murder. 00:51.320 --> 00:56.200 And according to the Bible, the person who commits these things is surely put to death. 00:56.200 --> 01:02.080 It's a capital crime that it merits the death penalty according to the Bible go to Daniel chapter 4 if you would 01:02.440 --> 01:06.560 Daniel chapter number 4 I'm gonna read you a lot of verses here in my introduction 01:07.360 --> 01:11.620 Regarding the sermon here before we get into Daniel chapter 4 my main points 01:11.720 --> 01:15.500 But let's just talk about the death penalty for just a second number one 01:15.500 --> 01:18.920 Let me start off by saying that we as Christians should be pro death penalty 01:18.920 --> 01:23.880 Okay, meaning that we should believe in justice. We believe that the Bible teaches 01:24.200 --> 01:28.800 that if a person commits a capital crime, that according to God, according to his word, 01:28.800 --> 01:32.000 which is our final authority, they merit the death penalty. 01:32.000 --> 01:36.600 And no, we don't need to figure out whether the person was mentally sane or not, 01:36.600 --> 01:42.000 because according to the Bible, the Mosaic law does not carve out insanity as being an excuse to kill people. 01:42.000 --> 01:43.000 Amen. 01:43.100 --> 01:49.720 You're still held culpable for your crime if you have committed murder and even if you 01:49.720 --> 01:53.920 think you were insane, even if you think you were not in your right mind at the moment, 01:53.920 --> 01:56.060 it doesn't matter according to the Bible. 01:56.060 --> 01:59.560 And it's important for us as Christians to have that worldview, okay? 01:59.560 --> 02:03.680 To understand that this is what the Bible teaches and not allow your emotions to get 02:03.680 --> 02:08.160 involved in situations and think to yourself, well, I know that's what the Bible says, but 02:08.160 --> 02:10.200 I just feel, well, there's your problem. 02:10.200 --> 02:11.100 Bye, you see you 02:11.100 --> 02:16.000 lean not unto thine own understanding, and all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall 02:16.000 --> 02:17.000 direct thy paths." 02:17.000 --> 02:21.040 It's important for us to recognize that sometimes our emotions can deceive us. 02:21.040 --> 02:25.660 The heart is deceitful above all things, desperately wicked, who can know it? 02:25.660 --> 02:31.400 And so the Bible tells us that because our hearts are often susceptible to deception, 02:31.400 --> 02:34.240 we need to make sure that we govern our hearts according to the Bible. 02:34.700 --> 02:38.060 Sometimes the Bible goes against the grain of what we believe. 02:38.060 --> 02:41.740 Sometimes the Bible rubs us the wrong way, but folks, let me just remind you, 02:41.740 --> 02:45.260 it is the final authority, and we need to side with what the Bible says. 02:45.260 --> 02:48.140 And if you read the Bible and see what the Bible says regarding something, 02:48.140 --> 02:52.540 and it contradicts what you believe, it just kind of goes to show you that you've 02:52.540 --> 02:54.460 been conditioned to believe a certain way, 02:54.460 --> 02:57.460 contrary to the Word of God, and you need to be brainwashed! 02:58.200 --> 03:02.600 Okay, you need you need your brain to be washed from the filth of this world 03:02.800 --> 03:10.120 The Bible says be not conformed to this world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind Bible says 03:10.120 --> 03:14.960 Okay, and so it's important for us to recognize that you're like, oh man, just the death penalty 03:14.960 --> 03:20.340 Just sounds so bad though. Like is that Christ's like is that really in the Bible and the answer is yes 03:21.500 --> 03:24.700 The only reason you don't know that is because whatever church you've gone to, 03:24.700 --> 03:29.660 whatever pastor you listen to, never talks about it. Always stays out of the Old Testament. Always, 03:29.660 --> 03:35.580 you know, forbids themselves from talking about controversial things. And so it's important for us 03:35.580 --> 03:40.460 to preach the entire counsel of God so you can have a plenary understanding of what the Bible 03:40.460 --> 03:44.620 says regarding these issues. Let me read you a couple of verses here before we go to Daniel 03:44.620 --> 03:49.180 chapter 4. Numbers 35 verse 20 says this, but if he thrust him of hatred, 03:49.500 --> 03:53.900 or hurl at him by lying of weight, that he die, 03:53.900 --> 03:57.100 or in enmity smite him with his hand, that he die, 03:57.100 --> 04:00.540 he that smote him shall surely be put to death. 04:00.540 --> 04:02.980 Listen to this, for he is a murderer. 04:03.800 --> 04:07.960 The revenger of blood shall slay the murderer when he meeteth him. 04:07.960 --> 04:11.560 Well, that's in the law though, pastor. We're not under the law. 04:11.560 --> 04:16.680 Well, actually, the death penalty existed even prior to the Mosaic law being instituted. 04:16.680 --> 04:18.920 Genesis chapter 9 verse 6 says this. 04:18.920 --> 04:23.960 Genesis, which comes before Exodus, which comes before the Mosaic law, 04:23.960 --> 04:24.920 God said this, 04:24.920 --> 04:31.800 Whoso shedeth man's blood, by man shall his blood be shed for in the image of God, man. 04:31.800 --> 04:37.420 He him the Bible says the Bible is telling us here that if a person murders another individual takes their life 04:37.800 --> 04:44.160 According to the Bible by man's blood a man shall shed his shed his blood and murder that not murder 04:44.160 --> 04:47.780 But kill that person put them to death for the crime that they've committed 04:47.840 --> 04:53.580 Okay, there's no question that God demands the death penalty for those who commit capital crimes. You say well, okay 04:53.720 --> 04:57.060 You've proven that from Genesis, but what would Jesus say the pastor? 04:58.200 --> 05:00.800 What about Jesus? That's a big thing, you know? 05:00.800 --> 05:04.700 The New Testament, okay, well you know, Jesus said in Matthew 7-10 05:04.700 --> 05:08.500 to honor your father and mother, who so cursed as his father and mother, let him die the death. 05:08.500 --> 05:12.700 That's Jesus. But somehow that's not good enough, huh? 05:12.700 --> 05:16.900 Somehow, once you quote what Jesus said, it's like, well, you know, I still don't think... 05:16.900 --> 05:20.400 So it doesn't really matter how many verses we give people, 05:20.400 --> 05:24.900 how much evidence we provide, at the end of the day, you just don't like what the Bible says. 05:25.500 --> 05:32.400 So, Moses says it, God said it, Jesus Christ said it, you know, various people throughout 05:32.400 --> 05:35.600 the Bible were for this, they were for the Mosaic Law. 05:35.600 --> 05:39.400 It's up to us as Christians to just embrace it and recognize this is what the Bible teaches. 05:39.400 --> 05:44.520 Now, it's important for us to make the clarification here that we're not saying that Christians 05:44.520 --> 05:46.640 should go out and put people to death, okay? 05:46.640 --> 05:50.440 That's absurd, that's nonsensical, and you're like, well, we live in a society that doesn't 05:50.440 --> 05:53.480 really promote the death penalty, so it's kind of irrelevant to say... 05:53.500 --> 05:56.760 someone deserves the death penalty. No, because the Bible teaches us that we should still 05:56.760 --> 06:02.120 preach the counsel of God. And when we preach about certain capital crimes deserving the 06:02.120 --> 06:06.400 death penalty, it helps people to realize that there are sins and then there are certain 06:06.400 --> 06:11.640 sins that are exceedingly sinful. There are certain sins that are not just sinful, they're 06:11.640 --> 06:18.000 crimes in the eyes of God, to the point where God says, this person has forfeited their 06:18.000 --> 06:20.920 right to live and therefore they should be put to death. 06:22.200 --> 06:23.560 Now you say, why are you preaching this? 06:23.560 --> 06:27.000 Well, obviously I'm preaching this because of the whole Lindsay Clancy trial. 06:27.000 --> 06:29.600 Obviously the jurors are going to be deliberating tomorrow. 06:29.600 --> 06:32.520 And let me just remind everybody, in case you don't know, 06:32.520 --> 06:37.800 the trial isn't to determine whether she killed her children or not. 06:37.800 --> 06:39.360 Let me just repeat that again. 06:39.360 --> 06:44.720 The trial is not to determine whether she killed her children or not, 06:44.720 --> 06:49.640 because everyone, including Lindsay herself, said that she did it. 06:50.700 --> 06:57.420 The only people, listen to me, the only people who are claiming she didn't are TikTok investigators. 06:57.420 --> 07:06.380 True crime TikTok investigators who just think they have all types of evidence but no one cares about their trial, 07:06.380 --> 07:12.860 no one cares about their testimony, no one cares about their evidence because they're TikTok investigators and no one really cares what they have to say. 07:15.100 --> 07:19.140 Lindsay herself admitted that she did this well the system failed that well 07:19.140 --> 07:25.620 You know I failed to realize or see a passage in the Bible that says if a system fails you you're free to just kill your children 07:28.400 --> 07:30.080 Anybody got a verse? 07:30.080 --> 07:31.280 Anybody got some evidence? 07:31.280 --> 07:32.880 Doesn't exist! 07:32.880 --> 07:38.080 Okay, and so the trial is to determine whether she is criminally responsible 07:38.080 --> 07:40.720 based on whether she was sane or not. 07:40.720 --> 07:43.680 So the trial is not about to, you know, they're not trying to figure out 07:43.680 --> 07:44.560 did she do it or not. 07:44.560 --> 07:46.400 Everyone knows that she did it. 07:46.400 --> 07:50.320 The trial is there just to simply, you know, it's a stupid trial by the way. 07:50.320 --> 07:52.480 It's a trial that should not exist at all. 07:52.800 --> 07:58.800 Because it's simply there to determine whether she was in her right mind, you know, according to the law. 07:58.800 --> 08:06.800 And if she wasn't in her right mind, then she, you know, she's not going to, you know, be charged criminally with murdering her children, 08:06.800 --> 08:09.800 because she was just mentally insane. She would be institutionalized for the rest of her life. 08:09.800 --> 08:15.800 And quite frankly, even if she were to be found guilty, meaning that they don't believe she was insane, 08:15.800 --> 08:18.800 you know, all that's going to happen is she's going to go to prison for the rest of her life. 08:19.500 --> 08:21.500 Which according to God is just not enough! 08:21.500 --> 08:23.500 Right. Amen. 08:23.500 --> 08:25.500 Tooth for tooth! Eye for eye! Life for life! 08:25.500 --> 08:27.500 That's what the Bible teaches! 08:27.500 --> 08:29.500 Amen. 08:29.500 --> 08:31.500 So this morning, I want to preach on the subject of insanity. 08:31.500 --> 08:35.500 And the fact that it still makes you culpable. 08:35.500 --> 08:39.500 So let's just say hypothetically that she was mentally insane. 08:39.500 --> 08:41.500 And I do believe she's cuckoo, for sure. 08:41.500 --> 08:43.500 I believe she's insane. 08:43.500 --> 08:45.500 Because you have to be insane to kill your children. 08:46.500 --> 08:48.500 You have to be what the Bible calls past feeling. 08:48.500 --> 08:50.500 You have to be a reprobate. 08:50.500 --> 08:54.500 You have to be just absolutely out of your mind, 08:54.500 --> 08:57.500 not only to kill your children, kill three of them, 08:57.500 --> 09:00.400 and kill them in the manner that she did it. 09:01.200 --> 09:07.640 Okay, but despite all that let me tell you this insanity still makes a person culpable for their actions 09:07.920 --> 09:11.600 Okay, I'm gonna keep reading here a couple verses before we get into Daniel chapter 4 09:12.360 --> 09:18.200 Ecclesiastes chapter 9 verse number 3 says this is an evil among all things that are done under the Sun that there is one event 09:18.200 --> 09:22.880 unto all yea also the heart of the sons of men is full of evil and 09:23.960 --> 09:26.720 Madness is in their heart while they live 09:27.300 --> 09:28.800 And after that they go to the dead. 09:28.800 --> 09:29.960 What is the Bible telling us here? 09:29.960 --> 09:33.880 Madness is another way of saying insanity, to go crazy. 09:33.880 --> 09:35.320 It's just a synonym for that. 09:35.320 --> 09:38.720 And the Bible's saying here that pretty much all of humanity 09:38.720 --> 09:41.300 has the potential to go insane. 09:41.500 --> 09:49.900 Whether you're a Christian or not, whether you're saved or not, everyone has the potential to just absolutely lose their minds. 09:49.900 --> 09:54.500 It's possible for anybody to come under this type of condition. 09:54.500 --> 09:58.300 And I'm going to explain to you, I'm going to show you a bunch of different examples in the Bible, 09:58.300 --> 10:01.100 both saved and unsaved, who just completely lost their mind. 10:01.100 --> 10:03.800 Everyone is subject to this, right? 10:03.800 --> 10:05.600 Now, why do people go insane? 10:05.800 --> 10:09.800 Why is it that people lose their minds? Why do they go through a state of psychosis? 10:09.800 --> 10:14.800 Well, I'm going to give you a couple of reasons. First and foremost, as a form of judgment from God. 10:14.800 --> 10:18.800 Okay? So you have to understand this. Before we can ever even get into the examples, 10:18.800 --> 10:24.800 before we can give a conclusion to this, we have to recognize that this is a spiritual thing. 10:24.800 --> 10:30.500 Meaning that when people go insane, it could be because of the fact that God is punishing them. 10:30.800 --> 10:33.560 And in fact, let me read you from Deuteronomy 28 verse 27. 10:33.560 --> 10:35.960 You can write these verses if you want to read them later. 10:35.960 --> 10:38.520 Deuteronomy chapter 28 verse 27 says this, 10:38.520 --> 10:41.760 the Lord will smite thee with the botch of Egypt 10:41.760 --> 10:45.160 and with emirats and with the scab and with the itch, 10:45.160 --> 10:46.960 whereof thou canst not be healed. 10:46.960 --> 10:51.300 The Lord shall smite thee, listen to this, with madness. 10:51.400 --> 10:57.800 blindness and astonishment of heart the Bible says so this shows us that the 10:57.800 --> 11:02.120 source of insanity for a lot of people in this world is God you see people 11:02.120 --> 11:06.920 just going insane it's possible that God has stricken that person with 11:06.920 --> 11:09.200 absolute insanity as a form of punishment 11:09.500 --> 11:11.220 You say, why would God do such a thing? 11:11.220 --> 11:13.660 Well, I don't know, maybe because they're blaspheming God in their heart, 11:13.660 --> 11:16.180 maybe because they're just an absolute wicked person, 11:16.180 --> 11:17.700 maybe because they're a reprobate, 11:17.700 --> 11:23.540 maybe because they're blaspheming and cursing God and harming others and rejecting the truth, 11:23.540 --> 11:29.380 and therefore God removes their mental faculties so they can no longer function as a normal human being. 11:29.380 --> 11:30.380 That's a punishment. 11:30.800 --> 11:34.360 He smites them, the Bible says, with madness. 11:34.360 --> 11:36.600 2 Thessalonians 2 verse 10 says this, 11:36.600 --> 11:39.480 And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness, 11:39.480 --> 11:43.320 and them that perish, because they receive not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. 11:44.200 --> 11:48.920 And for this cause, listen to this, God shall send them strong delusions 11:48.920 --> 11:53.020 that they should believe a lie, that they all might be damned who believe not the truth 11:53.020 --> 11:54.920 that have pleasure in unrighteousness. 11:54.920 --> 12:01.720 So according to 2 Thessalonians chapter 2, the Bible tells us that sometimes God makes people mentally insane. 12:01.720 --> 12:06.440 He gives them a strong delusion as a result of their rejection of the truth. 12:07.100 --> 12:12.400 So they just continually reject the gospel, continually reject that it's by faith in Jesus Christ 12:12.400 --> 12:17.200 and then on top of that they have a hatred for the truth and a love for the lie 12:17.200 --> 12:21.400 God says, okay, I'll just give you a strong delusion that you should believe a lie and be damned 12:21.400 --> 12:24.700 Now this is different than the God that you hear about in your Sunday school class 12:24.700 --> 12:30.200 You don't really hear this on a Sunday morning in Sunday school class because pastors don't really know how to explain all this 12:30.200 --> 12:32.200 But I'll explain it to you, God just does it 12:34.000 --> 12:35.140 Here, I'll explain it to you. 12:35.140 --> 12:38.880 That's why you shouldn't reject the gospel. 12:38.880 --> 12:40.880 Here's a good reason not to reject the gospel aside 12:40.880 --> 12:43.320 from the fact that hell is real. 12:43.320 --> 12:45.840 And if you reject the gospel, you reject salvation, 12:45.840 --> 12:49.800 you will go to hell for all of eternity and burn there 12:49.800 --> 12:52.320 and be tormented day and night if you don't believe 12:52.320 --> 12:53.360 on the Lord Jesus Christ. 12:53.360 --> 12:53.920 Here's another thing. 12:53.920 --> 12:54.880 While you're here on this earth, you 12:54.880 --> 12:55.960 can go mentally insane. 12:56.300 --> 13:02.700 You can become delusional and it's God's form of punishment on your life for rejecting the truth. 13:02.700 --> 13:03.200 Okay? 13:03.200 --> 13:09.100 So, you know, sometimes people go mentally insane as a form of judgment from God. 13:09.100 --> 13:15.300 But also, just persisting in sinfulness and sinful activities can cause you to go insane. 13:15.300 --> 13:16.800 Ecclesiastes 10.13 says, 13:16.800 --> 13:22.700 The beginning of the words of his mouth is foolishness and the end of his talk is mischievous madness. 13:22.700 --> 13:24.300 You know, another way to describe it- 13:24.300 --> 13:31.660 would be, you know, if someone is delving into, you know, mind altering drugs, they're, 13:31.660 --> 13:37.780 you know, experimenting with LSD, they're experimenting with shrooms, they're experimenting 13:37.780 --> 13:43.100 with any form of drugs that can just completely change your mind, they can just permanently 13:43.100 --> 13:44.900 be fried. 13:44.900 --> 13:49.220 And we've seen this, if you don't know what I'm talking about, go to Downtown LA, you'll 13:49.220 --> 13:51.380 see tons of examples, lots of illustrations there. 13:51.800 --> 13:55.280 Okay, and you think there's a what's wrong with these people they just seem insane 13:55.280 --> 13:59.560 They are insane and obviously you know we can say some of them are demonically possessed 13:59.560 --> 14:01.160 And we're gonna get into that in just a bit 14:01.160 --> 14:05.400 But sometimes they just had a bad trip and they stayed on that bad trip 14:05.600 --> 14:11.080 God allowed them to suffer the consequences of their actions of their sinfulness 14:11.160 --> 14:17.200 They destroy their minds look folks this is why it's important for us to value the virtue of being sober 14:18.500 --> 14:23.740 That means we abstain from alcohol, abstain from marijuana, abstain from drugs, because 14:23.740 --> 14:27.220 the Bible exalts being sober and being vigilant. 14:29.200 --> 14:32.400 So why do people go insane? Sometimes it's a punishment from God. 14:32.400 --> 14:37.280 Sometimes because of the fact that they are just persisting in sinful behavior. 14:37.280 --> 14:42.720 Persisting in, you know, drugs and alcohol. It can cause them to go insane. 14:42.720 --> 14:45.200 Here's another reason, and this is going to shock you. 14:45.840 --> 14:48.080 You know, sometimes people go insane just because they're faking it. 14:49.200 --> 14:50.400 Meaning they're not really insane. 14:52.000 --> 14:54.480 You know there's people in this world that just fake being crazy? 14:55.400 --> 14:58.680 either because they want to get the drugs, 14:58.680 --> 15:01.720 get the antidepressants, you know, get whatever, 15:01.720 --> 15:04.920 or just because they want people to sympathize with them. 15:04.920 --> 15:06.840 Sometimes people actually fake it. 15:06.840 --> 15:09.160 Now in 1st Samur 21, we have an example of this, 15:09.160 --> 15:12.160 of David feigning himself to be mad. 15:12.400 --> 15:17.800 And he's literally like, you know, he's allowing saliva to come out of his mouth, he's scribbling on the doors 15:17.800 --> 15:20.540 And they're just like, why are you bringing this crazy guy around? 15:20.540 --> 15:24.540 He wasn't really insane, he's just acting like it, but you know, you have a lot of people today 15:24.540 --> 15:27.440 That feign themselves to be insane as well, okay? 15:28.440 --> 15:29.480 They're just faking it 15:30.480 --> 15:31.680 Here's another reason 15:32.140 --> 15:33.440 It's because of false religion 15:33.940 --> 15:36.100 You know, false religion can cause you to go insane 15:36.500 --> 15:41.900 So how do you know? Well, when you look at the religions of this world, and the fact that they actually have followers, 15:41.900 --> 15:43.900 you think to yourself, these people gotta be crazy. 15:44.900 --> 15:48.900 The fact that Islam has so many converts, you guys are crazy. 15:48.900 --> 15:55.900 The fact that their leader is a pedophile, and you're still following that, you gotta be crazy. 15:55.900 --> 16:02.900 The fact that Mormonism exists, and that there's people following Mormonism, and doing the holy underwear thing, 16:03.600 --> 16:08.600 And believing they're going to get their own planet and have eternal babies, that's insane! 16:08.600 --> 16:11.600 You know what? False religion can make people go crazy. 16:11.600 --> 16:18.600 Because along with that is just a rejection of the truth, therefore God allows them to be given over to the lie. 16:18.600 --> 16:20.600 Jeremiah chapter 50 verse 38 says, 16:30.500 --> 16:37.160 Mad meaning crazy insane and look you can go to India you can go to Southeast Asia and see this 16:37.700 --> 16:44.200 All these idols on every corner, just being performed to just demonic entities, demonic idols 16:44.200 --> 16:46.620 and you think to yourself, how can these people believe these things? 16:46.620 --> 16:49.800 Yeah, because they're crazy. They've gone insane. 16:49.800 --> 16:56.540 Their mental faculties are not operating because of the fact that they knew God, but they glorified Him not as God, neither were thankful, 16:56.540 --> 17:00.420 but became, listen to this, vain in their imagination and their foolish heart was darkened. 17:01.500 --> 17:08.220 So sometimes they're faking it, sometimes it's a judgment from God, it's persistent sinfulness, it's because of false religion. 17:08.220 --> 17:14.380 Let me also say this is that physical conditions can affect a person's mental state where they think that they're going crazy. 17:14.380 --> 17:21.260 I mean think about this, you know Elijah was so emotionally and physically depleted that he literally told God, 17:21.260 --> 17:23.100 take my life away, right? 17:23.100 --> 17:26.700 And no man ever yet hated his own flesh but nourished it and cherished it. 17:26.700 --> 17:27.740 So obviously, 17:28.000 --> 17:31.840 He must have been in a very bad physical and mental condition to have those thoughts 17:33.120 --> 17:39.760 Job's physical condition was so profoundly devastating that he said in job 7 14 15. Excuse me 17:40.560 --> 17:44.100 All right, let me read to you from verse 14. Then thou scares me with dreams 17:44.900 --> 17:52.260 And terrifies me through visions so that my soul chooseth strangling and death rather than my life 17:52.660 --> 17:59.380 I loathe it. I would not live all way. Let me alone for my days are vanity now with elijah 17:59.700 --> 18:03.160 The solution to his you know, uh depression 18:03.780 --> 18:07.480 To his uh mental state god just said sleep and eat 18:08.200 --> 18:13.400 You just need more sleep, you need to get some food in you, and then you can be replenished, and you'll be fine. 18:13.400 --> 18:17.400 How about this? Fear can often be a result of insanity. 18:17.400 --> 18:19.400 People who are just paranoid. 18:19.400 --> 18:23.000 Constantly wondering what's going on, thinking that people are after them. 18:23.000 --> 18:29.000 This is fear. But the Bible says that God didn't give us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind. 18:29.000 --> 18:32.900 And look, I've known Christians who are just paranoid. 18:33.300 --> 18:37.140 I've known Christians that were so paranoid that, you know, they have... 18:37.140 --> 18:42.100 And look, if you have a security system, you know, it's all good, but this guy was like overkill. 18:42.100 --> 18:46.740 Like, he was like Batman, you know what I mean? He just had like all these screens in his room, 18:46.740 --> 18:50.340 and then he just had all these weapons, and I'm like, have you been threatened? 18:50.340 --> 18:54.180 He's like, no, I haven't. I'm like, have people said they're coming after you? 18:54.180 --> 18:58.980 He's like, no, I'm just getting ready for what? No one knows you! Nobody knows you! 19:00.100 --> 19:08.580 Paranoia, but the Bible says perfect love casteth out fear fear has torment the Bible says and so people can go insane 19:09.380 --> 19:14.940 Because of fear they become paranoid they become so overly worried that they lose their minds 19:15.700 --> 19:20.860 The Bible tells us in Leviticus chapter 26 verse 36 and upon them that are left alive of you 19:20.860 --> 19:26.760 I will send a faintness into their hearts in the land of their enemies and the sound of a shaken leaf 19:27.140 --> 19:32.860 Shall chase them and they shall flee as fleeing from a sword and they shall fall when none 19:33.180 --> 19:39.060 Pursue it here's another reason why people go insane and this is very common and that is demonic possession 19:39.700 --> 19:43.860 Sometimes people absolutely lose their minds because they're possessed by 19:44.460 --> 19:49.440 Devils yes, that's a real thing okay, and then often works in conjunction with drugs 19:50.100 --> 19:54.320 You know like I don't know if this person is on drugs or the demon possessed yes 19:55.980 --> 20:01.280 Yes, because sometimes it's the drugs that kind of opens up the door to demonic possession 20:01.280 --> 20:06.100 Okay, the Bible says in Matthew chapter 4 verse 24 and his fame went throughout all Syria 20:06.800 --> 20:11.600 And they brought unto him all sick people that were taken with diverse diseases and torments 20:11.600 --> 20:16.800 and those which were possessed with devils and those which were lunatic 20:16.800 --> 20:21.100 and those that had the palsy and he healed them. 20:21.100 --> 20:25.100 And lastly, let me say this is that people go insane because they're reprobates. 20:26.300 --> 20:32.840 Meaning that they have been rejected by God indefinitely for salvation because of their rejection of the truth. 20:32.840 --> 20:37.000 Romans 1.28 tells us this, even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, 20:37.000 --> 20:42.600 God gave them over to a reprobate mind to do those things which are not convenient. 20:42.600 --> 20:45.100 And so that's important to note there as well. 20:45.100 --> 20:49.300 Sometimes people are just mentally insane because of the fact that God removed their conscience. 20:49.300 --> 20:51.900 Their conscience is seared according to the Bible. 20:51.900 --> 20:54.300 They don't have the mental capacity. 20:54.300 --> 20:57.300 to differentiate between good and evil 20:57.300 --> 20:59.300 because they have a reprobate mind. 20:59.300 --> 21:00.300 Okay? 21:00.300 --> 21:03.300 So the point being here is that people go insane 21:03.300 --> 21:04.300 for a variety of reasons, 21:04.300 --> 21:06.300 but in every single instance, 21:06.300 --> 21:08.300 if they're to commit a crime, 21:08.300 --> 21:09.300 they're still culpable for that crime. 21:10.200 --> 21:14.900 If they murder someone, they are supposed to be held responsible for that murder. 21:14.900 --> 21:16.900 Doesn't matter how insane they were. 21:16.900 --> 21:17.600 Okay? 21:17.600 --> 21:21.500 Now let's look at a couple examples of people who lost their minds in the Bible. 21:21.500 --> 21:23.200 You're in Daniel chapter 4. 21:23.200 --> 21:25.700 Let's talk about Nebuchadnezzar, okay? 21:26.700 --> 21:30.200 Nebuchadnezzar was made insane by God 21:30.200 --> 21:33.400 because of his pride and unwillingness to repent and correct his ways. 21:33.400 --> 21:35.000 Look at verse 27. 21:35.000 --> 21:35.300 It says, 21:35.300 --> 21:36.420 Wherefore, O King? 21:36.900 --> 21:43.300 Let my counsel be acceptable unto thee, and break off thy sins by righteousness, 21:43.300 --> 21:50.100 and thine iniquities by showing mercy to the poor. It may be a lengthening of thy tranquility. 21:50.400 --> 21:53.700 So, Nebuchadnezzar is a pretty godless person. 21:53.700 --> 22:03.200 He's a very angry individual, short-fused, power-hungry, and the guy is just extremely arrogant, unmerciful. 22:03.200 --> 22:05.400 You could read the chapters prior to this. 22:05.400 --> 22:10.200 And so he, you know, he is boasting, he's prideful, and they're basically saying, 22:10.200 --> 22:15.200 hey, you know, if you act righteously as a king, this doesn't mean he's saved. 22:15.400 --> 22:19.080 But if you act righteously, you show mercy to the poor, 22:19.080 --> 22:22.360 you know, God can lengthen your peace. 22:22.360 --> 22:26.440 He can lengthen the peace of mind that you'll have here on this earth, right? 22:27.100 --> 22:30.300 You can live out your day, he's just living in peace. 22:30.300 --> 22:34.220 And I don't believe this is God dealing with Nebuchadnezzar as a safe person. 22:34.220 --> 22:38.700 I do believe that God just deals with magistrates and kings and presidents 22:38.700 --> 22:44.700 in their own type of position where if they act righteously, you know, God can bless that nation, 22:44.700 --> 22:46.940 he can bless that individual and so forth. 22:46.940 --> 22:48.140 And I believe that's what's taking place here. 22:48.140 --> 22:52.300 He's saying, hey, you know, repent of your ways, stop being a wicked person, 22:52.300 --> 22:55.020 and you'll lengthen your peace, your tranquility. 22:55.100 --> 23:02.380 your soundness of mine verse 28 says this came upon the kingdom of kineser at the end of 12 months 23:02.380 --> 23:04.780 He walked in the palace of the kingdom of Babylon 23:05.220 --> 23:10.500 The King's bacon said is not this great Babylon that I have built for the house of the kingdom 23:10.740 --> 23:15.120 By the might of my power and for the honor of my majesty 23:15.700 --> 23:19.220 So what's going on here? You know he the prophet tells him hey 23:19.940 --> 23:20.900 repent 23:21.000 --> 23:25.640 Get right, don't be arrogant, be good to the poor, 23:25.640 --> 23:27.640 break off your sins by righteousness. 23:27.640 --> 23:31.360 And for a full 12 months, he just ignores this. 23:31.360 --> 23:33.520 So I would say that God is being pretty merciful 23:33.520 --> 23:35.240 to Nebuchadnezzar. 23:35.240 --> 23:37.040 Now, what's the principle there that we can learn 23:37.040 --> 23:38.240 that's outside of this sermon? 23:38.240 --> 23:39.200 I'll tell you what. 23:39.200 --> 23:41.360 Just because God hasn't punished you right now for your sin 23:41.360 --> 23:43.720 doesn't mean you're not going to get it. 23:43.720 --> 23:46.120 You might be in the fifth month. 23:46.120 --> 23:47.800 You might be in the sixth month. 23:48.000 --> 23:51.740 You might be in the ninth month. Hey, you might be in the 11th month 23:52.280 --> 23:54.620 Don't think just because God has not punished you 23:55.140 --> 23:58.900 That just automatically means that he places his stamp of approval on your actions 23:59.140 --> 24:04.360 Because the Bible says here that on the 12th month when he walked out and he said these things evil came upon him 24:05.060 --> 24:12.080 What does he say? He said? Oh man, this Babylon is because of me. I did this no Nebuchadnezzar. God did it 24:12.400 --> 24:18.400 not because he likes you, not because he favors you, but because it's working towards his ultimate plan. 24:19.400 --> 24:21.400 Verse 31 says, 24:21.400 --> 24:24.400 While the word was in the king's mouth, 24:24.800 --> 24:30.320 There fell a voice from heaven saying, Oh, King Nebuchadnezzar, to thee it is spoken, 24:30.320 --> 24:36.640 the kingdom departed from thee, and they shall drive thee from men, and thy dwelling shall 24:36.640 --> 24:41.720 be with the beasts of the field, and they shall make thee to eat grass as an oxen, and 24:41.720 --> 24:47.560 seven times shall pass over thee, until thou knowest that the Most High ruleth in the kingdom 24:47.560 --> 24:50.320 of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will." 24:50.320 --> 24:52.760 So as he's just boasting about his greatness. 24:52.800 --> 24:59.700 And how he's awesome God just speaks to him and he basically says like you're gonna be punished for this 24:59.700 --> 25:01.460 I'm gonna remove your sanity 25:01.460 --> 25:06.320 I'm paraphrasing verse 33 the same hour was the thing fulfilled upon Nebuchadnezzar 25:06.320 --> 25:11.700 And he was driven from men and did eat grass as an oxen 25:11.700 --> 25:19.580 And his body was wet with the dew of heaven till his hairs were grown like Eagles feathers and his nails like birds claws 25:20.600 --> 25:25.600 So what do we have here? We have that he just completely goes insane. He thinks himself to be an animal. 25:25.600 --> 25:28.600 So he goes from being this awesome king... 25:29.200 --> 25:32.700 This conquering king, this powerful magistrate, 25:32.700 --> 25:36.700 to being reduced to acting like an absolute animal. 25:36.700 --> 25:41.000 He becomes a vegetarian, his nails grow, his hair grows, 25:41.000 --> 25:43.200 he just looks absolutely horrendous, 25:43.200 --> 25:46.200 even to the point where his subjects are just kicking him out. 25:46.200 --> 25:47.700 They want nothing to do with him. Why? 25:47.700 --> 25:49.700 Because he went insane. He went crazy. 25:51.800 --> 25:55.960 His insanity was a punishment for his pride and his sin. 25:55.960 --> 26:00.440 Now, this is actually today referred to clinically as bowanthropy. 26:00.440 --> 26:01.960 Okay? 26:01.960 --> 26:07.360 Where people, you know, there's been people throughout history that they thought that they were like a cow or an ox. 26:07.360 --> 26:10.360 And they start literally eating grass. 26:10.800 --> 26:18.280 You know, like a cow, like an ox, and there's actually a recorded instance of this in the 11th century with a ruler from Persia 26:18.280 --> 26:20.280 who basically thought he was a cow. 26:20.280 --> 26:22.880 And he would eat grass like an ox and everything. 26:22.880 --> 26:25.880 I believe it was God's punishment on that person for doing so. 26:25.880 --> 26:26.880 Okay? 26:26.880 --> 26:29.520 And you know what, you say, well, do you have any modern examples? 26:29.520 --> 26:31.800 Well, you know, furbies are kind of like that, right? 26:31.800 --> 26:37.480 Well, is that what they're called? Furries, furries, not furpiece, furries! 26:38.200 --> 26:40.200 Furries are the little animals, right? 26:41.700 --> 26:45.700 Furries are an example of this, or just people who just think that they're animals. 26:46.700 --> 26:52.700 You know, these reprobates who just want to be, you know, called the dog, they want to be called the cat, 26:52.700 --> 26:57.700 they want to identify themselves as some sort of animal, you know, this is a curse upon them. 26:57.700 --> 27:03.700 They're acting like animals, and God's saying, okay, because you've rejected the truth, I'm going to make you go insane. 27:04.400 --> 27:08.800 And yeah, they're not being driven physically from society, but society's looking at them and saying, 27:08.800 --> 27:09.800 you're weird. 27:09.800 --> 27:12.120 You're a freak. 27:12.120 --> 27:13.120 What is this? 27:13.120 --> 27:16.360 You know, you're like, oh, I know a furry, you know? 27:16.360 --> 27:19.560 Yeah, you know an insane person. 27:19.560 --> 27:21.400 It's insane! 27:21.400 --> 27:25.280 It's God's punishment on that person, because that's embarrassing. 27:25.280 --> 27:27.880 It's embarrassing to frolic like a little fox. 27:28.200 --> 27:30.640 So, frolick like a deer or something. 27:30.640 --> 27:33.740 Act like, you know, put the little ears on your head 27:33.740 --> 27:35.740 and act like you have a tail and all this. 27:35.740 --> 27:36.780 That's nonsense. 27:36.780 --> 27:37.620 It's embarrassing. 27:37.620 --> 27:38.440 Stop doing that. 27:38.440 --> 27:42.580 And parents, don't let your kids get involved in being a furry. 27:42.580 --> 27:46.340 You're a grown man walking around with a tail. 27:46.340 --> 27:48.140 What is that? 27:48.140 --> 27:49.500 Bring bullies back, amen. 27:49.500 --> 27:50.000 Amen. 27:52.600 --> 27:55.640 Why do people go insane? I'll tell you why because they reject the truth 27:55.640 --> 28:01.500 But here's a clear example of someone who went insane not because he had some sort of chemical imbalance 28:01.500 --> 28:06.660 Not because the system failed him not because of any of that. It's because he disobeyed God 28:07.880 --> 28:13.760 prideful and arrogant and rebellious God exalted him to the position of being a king of 28:14.200 --> 28:18.040 Conquering all these nations. He gives no glory to God and God says, okay 28:18.500 --> 28:21.500 You want to take credit? Then I'll just make you an ox. 28:21.500 --> 28:24.500 For seven entire years. 28:24.500 --> 28:28.500 Bro became a vegetarian for seven entire years. 28:29.500 --> 28:34.500 Where he's just eating grass like an ox, looking like an absolute beast, just completely embarrassing himself, 28:34.500 --> 28:38.500 living out there like an animal, okay? 28:38.500 --> 28:41.500 You know, and by the way, homos act like animals. 28:41.500 --> 28:43.500 So you can see how that's like associated with that. 28:43.500 --> 28:45.500 They act like animals. 28:46.300 --> 28:49.300 And so this is part of the punishment, okay? 28:49.300 --> 28:53.000 Lycanthropy or broanthropy is what it's often called. 28:53.000 --> 28:56.800 Lycanthropy is just when people think they're transitioning into becoming an animal. 28:56.800 --> 29:00.300 This is what's happening to Nebuchadnezzar. Go to 1 Samuel chapter 16. 29:00.300 --> 29:02.100 1 Samuel chapter 16. 29:02.100 --> 29:06.300 We would look at Nebuchadnezzar today and say, that guy went mentally insane. 29:06.300 --> 29:08.000 That person is crazy. 29:08.000 --> 29:10.600 Would we say, oh, put him on antidepressants. 29:10.600 --> 29:12.300 Put on, you know, give him some medication. 29:12.300 --> 29:14.000 No, get right with God. 29:14.700 --> 29:20.140 And in fact, it wasn't until the seven years were over that Nebuchadnezzar gave glory to 29:20.140 --> 29:25.660 God, he gave credit to the God of heaven, recognized that he's the only deity, and what 29:25.660 --> 29:26.660 happened? 29:26.660 --> 29:31.420 His saneness, his mind, his reason, the Bible says, returned unto him. 29:31.420 --> 29:33.100 Because God is able to just flip the switch. 29:33.800 --> 29:39.740 Say okay now you're thinking right let me just flip the switch and guess what he reinstated him to his former glory 29:39.780 --> 29:44.600 He became the king again his life was restored as normal as before 29:44.600 --> 29:47.980 But it took an entire seven years for him to get right he didn't need 29:48.540 --> 29:54.280 Medication he didn't need pills. He didn't need the apothecary. He didn't need a sorcerer 29:54.300 --> 29:58.020 He needed the great physician and he needed to get right with God 29:59.400 --> 30:05.000 Insanity sometimes plays out because people are just rebellious against the Lord, that's why. 30:05.000 --> 30:08.700 And let me say this, obviously Nebuchadnezzar is an unsaved example, 30:08.700 --> 30:11.900 but I guarantee you there's an example of saved people doing this. 30:11.900 --> 30:13.400 And in fact, we're going to look at one right now. 30:14.400 --> 30:20.200 Let's look at example number two of someone going absolutely insane, and that is Saul. 30:21.400 --> 30:24.400 Saul's probably the greatest example of all of these, okay? 30:25.200 --> 30:27.500 Look at 1st Samuel chapter 16 verse 14. It says, 30:27.500 --> 30:32.600 Then Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him, referring to David, in the midst of his brethren. 30:32.600 --> 30:35.600 And the Spirit of the Lord came upon David from that day forward. 30:35.600 --> 30:37.600 So Samuel rose up and went to Ramah. 30:37.600 --> 30:41.600 Now we obviously know that Saul was the first king of the United Kingdom of Israel. 30:41.600 --> 30:45.200 And he started off great. He was head and shoulders above the rest. 30:45.200 --> 30:50.000 He was a humble person. He was little in his own sight, the Bible says. 30:50.000 --> 30:51.800 I mean, the guy had a great beginning. 30:52.000 --> 30:59.000 But then pride snuck into his heart, rebelliousness snuck into his heart, and he began to disobey the Lord. 30:59.000 --> 31:03.400 He wasn't carrying out the commandments of God, and therefore God ended up punishing him. 31:03.400 --> 31:09.000 And in fact, part of his sin was that he was envious towards David. 31:09.500 --> 31:15.700 Now, God had already determined once Saul disobeyed him, that the kingdom of God was going to be taken from him and given to David. 31:15.700 --> 31:18.700 Okay, which is why David is being anointed at this time. 31:18.700 --> 31:24.100 But even though David is the one being anointed, you know, Saul still has to fulfill his terms, so to speak. 31:24.100 --> 31:29.100 So he's still the king, even though David is the runner-up after he goes away. 31:29.100 --> 31:30.500 Look at verse 14, it says, 31:37.900 --> 31:43.740 And Saul's servant said unto him, Behold now an evil spirit from God, trouble at thee. 31:43.740 --> 31:48.220 Let our Lord now command the servants which are before thee to seek out a man who is a 31:48.220 --> 31:52.700 cunning player on a harp, and it shall come to pass when the evil spirit from God is upon 31:52.700 --> 31:56.460 thee that he shall play with his hand, and thou shalt be well." 31:56.460 --> 32:01.940 So you know, the Lord departs from him in the sense of God's power is no longer with 32:01.940 --> 32:02.400 him. 32:02.500 --> 32:09.200 Now people often point to this and say, well isn't this proof that Saul was not saved because the Spirit of the Lord departed from him? 32:09.200 --> 32:16.300 No, because in the Old Testament, when people got saved, the Holy Spirit would come and regenerate them, 32:16.300 --> 32:22.500 bring their dead spirits to life, but he wouldn't necessarily live within them as he does with us today. 32:22.500 --> 32:27.500 The part of salvation that the Holy Spirit plays in is that he regenerates the dead spirit. 32:27.800 --> 32:32.920 You know, the Bible tells us, you hath he quickened who were dead in trespasses and sin 32:32.920 --> 32:39.520 Not by works of righteousness, which we have done, but according to his mercy, he saved us by the washing and regeneration 32:39.520 --> 32:41.260 And renewing of the Holy Ghost 32:41.260 --> 32:46.320 So the Holy Spirit comes at the moment of salvation, brings your spirit to life, and that's it 32:46.320 --> 32:51.200 But in the New Testament, the Bible tells us that he sealed there unto the day of redemption 32:51.200 --> 32:55.320 The major difference between the two is the temple 32:56.200 --> 33:01.040 Tabernacle and temple the Bible says in the New Testament that we're the temple of the Holy Ghost which we have of God and we 33:01.040 --> 33:04.200 Are not our own the temple in the Old Testament was a literal physical building 33:04.540 --> 33:08.960 So God's presence in the Old Testament was in that physical tabernacle and temple 33:08.960 --> 33:13.180 Well since our bodies are the temple in the New Testament the Holy Spirit resides within us 33:14.100 --> 33:19.420 So in the Old Testament when the Holy Spirit would save people he would do the same exact way that he does it today 33:19.580 --> 33:24.560 The difference is he would not abide in them as he does in the new 33:24.820 --> 33:27.860 He would come upon them in order to give them wisdom 33:28.780 --> 33:32.780 Courage boldness and so forth, but that was it 33:32.780 --> 33:39.140 So when the Bible says here that the Spirit of Lord departed from Saul it means that he's not a spirit filled person anymore 33:40.100 --> 33:45.860 And then God sends an evil spirit, a demonic spirit, to oppress him. 33:47.860 --> 33:50.740 Now the funny thing is, is that you know, the servants see this, they're like, 33:50.740 --> 33:52.340 oh man, this guy's tripping out, you know. 33:52.820 --> 33:54.980 He's got like an evil spirit on him. 33:55.180 --> 33:55.940 And what do they do? 33:55.940 --> 33:57.900 They're like, he needs antidepressants. 33:58.800 --> 34:05.520 He needs antidepressants, we need to take him to the doctor, he needs a psychiatrist, 34:05.520 --> 34:09.920 he needs a therapist, because what they're doing is creating a solution with music but 34:09.920 --> 34:11.720 it doesn't really do anything. 34:11.720 --> 34:14.120 Chills them out for a moment but it doesn't really take care of the job. 34:14.120 --> 34:18.560 Because he's listening to it, he calms down for a little bit, but then later on he goes 34:18.560 --> 34:22.380 on his murderous spree thereafter. 34:22.380 --> 34:24.360 And this is kind of like your pharmaceutical industry. 34:25.400 --> 34:31.400 where people pay millions of thousands and millions of dollars for medication doesn't do anything 34:31.400 --> 34:36.400 they're still depressed, they're still angry, they still got mental issues 34:36.400 --> 34:42.400 does absolutely nothing but put money into the pockets of those who are promoting it 34:42.400 --> 34:45.400 and so look at chapter 18 if you would, chapter 18 34:49.200 --> 34:51.520 1st Samuel chapter 18, look at verse 7, it says, 34:51.520 --> 34:54.600 And the woman answered one another as they played, 34:54.600 --> 34:57.440 and said, Saul hath slain his thousands, 34:57.440 --> 34:59.080 and David his ten thousands. 34:59.080 --> 35:02.960 So David comes back from a war, and you know, David, 35:02.960 --> 35:05.040 he is a mighty warrior. 35:05.040 --> 35:06.240 God's with him. 35:06.240 --> 35:07.200 He's a man's man. 35:07.200 --> 35:08.320 He's taking care of business. 35:08.320 --> 35:09.360 He's not the king. 35:09.360 --> 35:11.240 He's subject unto Saul. 35:11.240 --> 35:12.840 But you know, he's famous. 35:12.840 --> 35:14.760 He's famous in the congregation, so to speak. 35:15.500 --> 35:20.500 And so, you know, he has these fans who are making songs about him. 35:20.700 --> 35:26.380 And one of the songs is just like, you know, hey, Saul slain, he slew his thousands, but David is ten thousands. 35:26.380 --> 35:30.100 In other words, they're giving him more credit than what Saul has accomplished. 35:30.100 --> 35:34.020 Oh, you know, look, in my opinion though, if I was Saul, I'd be like, yeah, he works for me. 35:34.020 --> 35:36.860 So he's supposed to be doing the bulk of the work, you know. 35:36.860 --> 35:39.180 He's working for the kingdom. We're on the same team. 35:39.180 --> 35:43.380 It doesn't matter how many people I've slain or he slain, we're both on the same team. 35:43.380 --> 35:47.420 But because he has the evil spirit, because he's envious, it's bothering him. 35:47.800 --> 35:52.680 Look at verse 8, and Saul was very wroth. Wroth means that he's wrathful. 35:52.680 --> 35:57.640 And the same displeased them. And he said, they have ascribed them to David ten thousands. 35:57.640 --> 35:59.760 And to me they have ascribed them to thousands. 35:59.760 --> 36:03.400 And what can he have more but the kingdom? He's just being, just kind of throwing a fit. 36:03.400 --> 36:06.440 Why don't you guys just give him the crown already? You know? 36:06.440 --> 36:10.000 He's like throwing a little fit. Verse 9, and Saul 36:10.000 --> 36:13.360 eyed David from that day forward.
