We're in second Samuel 23. Let's start reading verse number one 44:23.120 --> 44:28.900 The Bible says now these be the last words of David David the son of Jesse said 44:29.040 --> 44:31.040 And the man who was raised up on high 44:31.040 --> 44:38.400 The anointed of the God of Jacob and the sweet psalmist of Israel said the Spirit of the Lord spake by me 44:38.400 --> 44:46.040 And his word was in my tongue here. We have David's last words on this earth before he dies 44:46.700 --> 44:50.300 And of course, David was a mighty man of God. 44:50.300 --> 44:51.940 How is it that the Bible describes him? 44:51.940 --> 44:55.380 He was the man who was raised up on high, right? 44:55.380 --> 44:57.980 So God's hand was upon David's life. 44:57.980 --> 44:59.220 He was a mighty man. 44:59.220 --> 45:02.540 He says he's the anointed of the God of Jacob. 45:02.540 --> 45:05.740 He was both a king and a preacher, a prophet, 45:05.740 --> 45:09.100 and the sweet psalmist of Israel said, 45:09.100 --> 45:11.660 the spirit of the Lord spake by me. 45:11.900 --> 45:19.740 So David obviously was a very mighty man. He had God's hand on his life. He was used both as a king as a preacher as a psalmist 45:19.980 --> 45:23.660 As an author of scripture. I mean, this is just a mighty man of God 45:23.660 --> 45:30.300 No doubt about that his most famous battle of course is him destroying the philistine with stones and the sling 45:30.680 --> 45:37.100 Goliath of course, but you know most of David's battles in his life was not just David and the Lord 45:37.500 --> 45:39.660 versus a Goliath most of the 45:39.900 --> 45:45.740 in his life was David and the Lord and a large group of mighty men alongside with 45:45.740 --> 45:50.740 him and that's really what this chapter chronicles for us is just a list of all 45:50.740 --> 45:56.060 these great mighty men that were there with David and look it is not enough in 45:56.060 --> 45:58.000 our world just to have a David 45:58.100 --> 46:01.600 It's not enough just to have a single man of God. 46:01.600 --> 46:04.600 We need some mighty men today. 46:04.600 --> 46:08.800 That is the title of my sermon is we need some mighty men. 46:08.800 --> 46:16.100 Our nation right now is going through just this massive crisis today of a lack of masculinity, 46:16.100 --> 46:20.100 a lack of mighty men, an increase in feminism, 46:20.100 --> 46:26.100 and just women running people's homes, women running police departments, women running... 46:26.100 --> 46:31.680 the nation and let me tell you something that is a curse from God that is not something 46:31.680 --> 46:36.800 that we should be okay with or striving for I'll read for you Isaiah 3 verse 12 says 46:36.800 --> 46:44.040 as for my people children are their oppressors and women rule over them oh my people they 46:44.040 --> 46:50.480 which lead thee cause thee to err and destroy the way of thy paths women ruling over the 46:50.480 --> 46:52.400 is a curse from God. 46:52.500 --> 46:55.860 I don't know, maybe like women ruling juries today 46:55.860 --> 46:58.180 in cases like the Lindsay Clancy case 46:58.180 --> 47:01.700 where a woman murders her kids, admits to murdering them, 47:01.700 --> 47:03.460 and then we have a hung jury. 47:03.460 --> 47:03.960 Why? 47:03.960 --> 47:06.340 Because there's a bunch of women on the jury 47:06.340 --> 47:08.820 who sympathize with this beast. 47:08.820 --> 47:10.580 You know, it's disgusting, it's wicked. 47:10.580 --> 47:12.900 We need some mighty men today in America. 47:13.500 --> 47:16.540 So I'm going to give you some attributes today of a mighty man. 47:16.540 --> 47:18.940 I want you to ask yourself, especially the men in this room, 47:18.940 --> 47:21.900 you know, can I get better in this area of life? Because let me tell you what, 47:21.900 --> 47:29.100 we need some mighty men today. Number one, let me say this mighty men lead by example. 47:29.820 --> 47:33.900 Mighty men lead by example. Look at verse eight of second Samuel 23. 47:34.900 --> 47:42.300 These be the names of the mighty men whom David had the Tacma night that sat in the seat chief among the captain. 47:42.300 --> 47:44.900 So notice this is like a leader of leaders. 47:44.900 --> 47:48.700 He's the chief among the captains of war. 47:48.700 --> 47:55.700 So this would be like in America, probably like the secretary of war where he's over the joint chiefs of staff. 47:55.700 --> 47:59.500 He's over all the military branches like this guy is a leader of leaders. 47:59.900 --> 48:01.900 He's the chief among the captains. 48:01.900 --> 48:04.580 The same was Adino, the Esnite. 48:04.580 --> 48:05.900 Notice what it says of him. 48:05.900 --> 48:12.900 He lift up his spear against 800, whom he slew at one time. 48:13.400 --> 48:18.160 So notice instead of sending everyone else out into battle, instead of just saying like, 48:18.160 --> 48:22.280 hey, we've got 800 enemies here, why don't we just have all you guys go? 48:22.280 --> 48:28.080 He leads by example and he just takes on 800 enemies of God by himself. 48:28.500 --> 48:29.620 I mean, don't read over that. 48:29.620 --> 48:33.540 Could you imagine one versus 800? 48:33.540 --> 48:36.460 We get impressed, rightly so, of David and Goliath, 48:36.460 --> 48:39.700 because it's one shepherd boy versus this giant beast, 48:39.700 --> 48:40.500 Goliath. 48:40.500 --> 48:42.340 And of course, that is an impressive feat. 48:42.340 --> 48:44.180 But this guy is pretty awesome, too, 48:44.180 --> 48:47.540 where he goes against 800 people by himself. 48:47.540 --> 48:48.340 And you know what? 48:48.340 --> 48:51.300 Real men, mighty men of God, good leaders, 48:51.300 --> 48:53.380 they're not afraid of being in the minority. 48:53.800 --> 48:56.800 They just lead by example, right? 48:56.800 --> 49:00.160 They don't, they're not like politicians where they stick their finger up and see 49:00.160 --> 49:03.720 which way the wind is blowing, figure out what people believe first. 49:03.800 --> 49:05.280 They just lead by example. 49:05.560 --> 49:06.600 They just do what's right. 49:06.840 --> 49:10.200 They're just willing to go out and fight the battles of the Lord, not checking 49:10.200 --> 49:11.160 who's going to go with them. 49:11.240 --> 49:13.000 They're the one leading the charge. 49:13.200 --> 49:14.600 You know, that's what a leader is. 49:15.000 --> 49:18.960 A leader is the person who's actually going out and leading by example, saying, 49:18.960 --> 49:20.120 Hey, come follow me. 49:20.240 --> 49:21.360 I'll go fight the enemies. 49:21.800 --> 49:23.080 I'll go take these people on. 49:23.280 --> 49:26.080 I don't care if I am the minority. 49:26.280 --> 49:31.120 Go to second Samuel 15, second Samuel 15. 49:31.320 --> 49:36.600 This is the exact opposite of a coward named Absalom. 49:36.800 --> 49:38.440 Second Samuel 15, look at verse one. 49:38.640 --> 49:42.520 And it came to pass after this, that Absalom prepared him chariots and 49:42.720 --> 49:46.300 horses and 50 men to run before him. 49:46.600 --> 49:48.520 charge to go out and fight the enemies. 49:48.640 --> 49:51.040 He's just saying, Hey, 50 guys, you go before me. 49:51.040 --> 49:52.040 I'll follow behind. 49:52.240 --> 49:53.560 That is not a leader. 49:54.040 --> 49:58.640 A leader needs to set the tone, say what's right, teach what's right 49:58.760 --> 50:00.000 and model what's right. 50:00.200 --> 50:02.520 And, you know, don't even worry about who's following behind you. 50:02.640 --> 50:04.120 You're the one at setting the example. 50:04.320 --> 50:04.520 Good. 50:04.520 --> 50:05.520 First Samuel 30. 50:06.080 --> 50:08.520 We'll see that David himself did this. 50:11.900 --> 50:16.300 And of course, you know, how did David raise such mighty men such as Adino? 50:16.300 --> 50:18.140 It's because he set the example himself. 50:18.780 --> 50:22.220 And you know, a great leader is going to produce other great leaders as well. 50:22.860 --> 50:24.140 Notice first Samuel 30. 50:24.940 --> 50:25.980 Put yourself in this story. 50:25.980 --> 50:26.700 Don't just read over this. 50:26.700 --> 50:27.740 Look at verse number three. 50:27.740 --> 50:29.900 So David and his men came to the city. 50:30.300 --> 50:32.140 Behold, it was burned with fire. 50:32.140 --> 50:37.500 Notice and their wives and their sons and their daughters were taken captives. 50:37.500 --> 50:38.060 Imagine that. 50:38.600 --> 50:41.960 You come back from battle and just your city is destroyed. 50:41.960 --> 50:43.280 It's raised to the ground. 50:43.280 --> 50:45.000 All your wives are gone. 50:45.000 --> 50:46.560 All your kids are gone. 50:46.560 --> 50:48.680 That would be a very distressing day. 50:49.000 --> 50:52.000 That would be the worst day of your life that you've ever experienced. 50:52.000 --> 50:54.000 And of course, that's how they felt. Verse four, it says, 50:54.000 --> 50:58.000 Then David and the people that were with him lifted up their voice 50:58.000 --> 51:02.000 and wept until they had no more power to weep. 51:02.000 --> 51:05.000 I mean, they're just weeping until they're like falling asleep. 51:05.000 --> 51:08.000 Their bodies just have no more power to even produce tears. 51:08.000 --> 51:10.000 That's how distressed that they are. Verse five, 51:10.000 --> 51:13.000 And David's two wives were taken captives, 51:13.000 --> 51:17.000 Ehenom, the Jezreelitis, and Abigail, the wife of Nabal, the Carmelitis. 51:17.000 --> 51:23.780 David was greatly distressed for the people's spake of stoning him because the soul of all the people was grieved 51:24.340 --> 51:26.660 Every man for his sons and for his daughters 51:26.660 --> 51:33.500 So not only does David have to deal with the stress of losing his family losing his wives losing his kids losing his city now 51:33.620 --> 51:35.580 Everyone's turned against him 51:35.580 --> 51:41.380 Everyone's wanting to stone him everyone's blaming the leader but notice but David encouraged himself 51:42.500 --> 51:43.900 in the Lord his God. 51:43.900 --> 51:44.900 That's a leader. 51:45.200 --> 51:47.800 saying, Hey, we're in a horrible situation. 51:47.960 --> 51:49.000 We're distressed. 51:49.160 --> 51:50.400 We're cast down. 51:50.560 --> 51:54.560 We need God's help, but someone needs to step up and lead. 51:54.720 --> 51:59.520 Someone needs to step up and encourage himself in the Lord and just lead God's 51:59.680 --> 52:02.720 people to do what's right to fight the battles of the Lord. 52:02.880 --> 52:04.200 That's who King David was. 52:04.360 --> 52:05.320 Is it any surprise? 52:05.480 --> 52:10.120 That's also who his mighty men were because he's leading by example. 52:13.200 --> 52:19.600 Now look, what are some areas in life where men today just need to lead by example? 52:19.600 --> 52:24.080 You just got to grab the bull by the horns and just show people how it's done, whether 52:24.080 --> 52:27.600 it's hard, whether it's popular, whether other people are doing it or not. 52:27.600 --> 52:29.600 How about this providing for your family? 52:32.100 --> 52:38.340 This is something today that most men are not willing to do is to pay the bills, work hard, 52:38.340 --> 52:43.060 allow their wives to stay home, have mom raise the kids at home. You know, most families today, 52:43.060 --> 52:48.340 it's the dual income, mom working, dad working.
