Well, we are in 1 Samuel 17. You want to keep your place here throughout the sermon, 37:21.760 --> 37:26.720 of course, the famous story of David and Goliath. And I want to start reading to get us some context 37:26.720 --> 37:32.240 here in verse number eight. The Bible says, and he, that's Goliath, stood and cried unto the armies 37:32.240 --> 37:38.480 of Israel and said unto them, Why are you come out to set your battle in array? Am not I a Philistine 37:38.480 --> 37:43.280 and ye servants to Saul? Choose you a man for you and let him come down to me. 37:43.800 --> 37:48.680 if he be able to fight with me and to kill me, then will we be your servants. 37:48.680 --> 37:53.640 But if I prevail against him and kill him, then shall ye be our servants and serve us." 37:54.600 --> 37:59.560 And the Philistine said, notice this, I defy the armies of Israel this day. 37:59.560 --> 38:01.960 Give me a man that we may fight together. 38:02.300 --> 38:09.500 When Saul and all Israel heard those words of the Philistine, they were dismayed and greatly afraid. 38:09.500 --> 38:12.700 So here we have the famous story of David and Goliath. 38:12.700 --> 38:19.260 And to set the scene way before David kills Goliath, we see this literal giant enemy of God 38:19.260 --> 38:24.220 just openly defying the people of God, just kind of mocking them, acting like, 38:24.220 --> 38:28.700 hey, there's no way you could defeat me. You go ahead and send a man to try to fight me. 38:28.700 --> 38:30.220 If he beats me, we'll be yours. 38:30.300 --> 38:34.420 servants. Of course, he's super confident that he's just going to be able to destroy 38:34.420 --> 38:39.180 the people of God. But what I want you to notice is notice the audience that is there 38:39.180 --> 38:44.900 when this is going on. Look at verse 13. It says, In the three eldest sons of Jesse went 38:44.900 --> 38:46.500 and followed Saul to the battle. 38:46.700 --> 38:50.700 and the names of his three sons that went to the battle were Eliab the firstborn, 38:50.700 --> 38:54.860 and next unto him Abinadab and the third Shammah, and David was the youngest, 38:54.860 --> 39:00.460 and the three eldest followed Saul. But David went and returned from Saul to feed his father's sheep 39:00.460 --> 39:07.660 at Bethlehem, and the Philistine drew near morning and evening, notice this, and presented himself 39:07.660 --> 39:09.100 40 days. 39:09.700 --> 39:15.200 So King Saul, the king of the nation, is there and he does nothing. 39:15.600 --> 39:20.880 The armies of Israel, those who are supposed to be fighting the battles, they are there. 39:20.880 --> 39:24.960 They do nothing. David's eldest brothers are there. 39:24.960 --> 39:27.840 They're, you know, they're older, they're supposedly stronger, right? 39:27.840 --> 39:30.400 They do nothing. For how long? 39:30.400 --> 39:34.080 40 days. Morning and evening. 39:34.080 --> 39:37.520 Day one, defying the armies of God, nothing being done. 39:37.520 --> 39:39.440 Day two, nothing being done. 39:39.440 --> 39:41.200 Day three, nothing being done. 39:41.200 --> 39:43.520 Think about this. Morning and evening for f- 39:43.600 --> 39:45.160 40 days. 39:45.400 --> 39:50.560 Now, on one more spiritual level, I think we could look at this 40-day period as a picture 39:50.560 --> 39:56.080 of the temptation of Christ in the wilderness, how He is tempted by the devil for 40 days. 39:56.080 --> 40:01.800 But of course, this also literally happened where this giant enemy of God is just openly 40:01.800 --> 40:07.440 defying the people of God for 40 days and no one does anything about it. 40:07.440 --> 40:11.440 The king, the armies, the older brothers, no one does anything about it. 40:11.440 --> 40:13.400 Finally, look at verse number 20. 40:13.400 --> 40:15.440 It says, and as he that's David. 40:16.200 --> 40:21.960 talked with them. Behold there came up the champion, the Philistine of Gath, Goliath by name, 40:21.960 --> 40:27.880 out of the armies of the Philistines and spake according to the same words and David heard them." 40:27.880 --> 40:31.720 So the Bible's pointing out like hey there's a there's a new guy here who's paying attention 40:31.720 --> 40:36.200 to what the Philistine is saying and it kind of insinuates that like his words are affecting David 40:36.200 --> 40:39.800 like he's kind of getting stirred up because that's what it says look at verse number 24 it says 40:39.800 --> 40:43.960 and all the men of Israel when they saw the man fled from him and 40:44.200 --> 40:50.280 were sore afraid. So Saul's afraid, the eldest brothers are afraid, the armies of Israel 40:50.280 --> 40:54.960 are afraid. It says verse 25, and the men of Israel said, have ye seen this man that 40:54.960 --> 40:59.320 has come up? Surely to defy Israel has he come up. Yeah, did you figure that out after 40:59.320 --> 41:01.000 40 days of him defying Israel? 41:01.700 --> 41:06.420 And it shall be that the man who killeth him, the king will enrich him with great riches, 41:06.420 --> 41:09.980 and will give him his daughter, and make his father's house free in Israel." 41:09.980 --> 41:13.580 So notice Saul is afraid to take care of this, and he's like, I've got to provide this huge 41:13.580 --> 41:18.500 reward just so someone will be stupid enough to go try to kill this Philistine, and hopefully 41:18.500 --> 41:21.180 they'll win, and if they win, here's the prize they'll get. 41:21.180 --> 41:22.620 And David's listening to this. 41:22.620 --> 41:23.940 26 as in David. 41:24.500 --> 41:31.100 Spake to the man that stood by him saying what shall be done to the man that killeth this Philistine and takeeth away 41:31.100 --> 41:33.660 The reproach from Israel for who is this? 41:34.140 --> 41:39.860 Uncircumcised Philistine that he should defy the armies of the living God so notice everyone's afraid 41:40.340 --> 41:47.160 Everyone's inactive. No one's doing anything. Haven't you seen this giant that's coming to defy Israel David's like hey 41:47.160 --> 41:52.320 What was the prize there? You know I get a wife I get money. Let's go. You know who is this? 41:52.500 --> 41:55.500 Oh, he's going to defy us? 41:55.500 --> 41:56.500 Well, you know what? 41:56.500 --> 41:58.500 We have the armies of the living God on our side. 41:58.500 --> 41:59.500 Verse 27, 41:59.500 --> 42:02.500 And the people answered him after this man are saying, 42:02.500 --> 42:05.500 So shall it be done to the man that killeth him. 42:05.500 --> 42:08.500 So David's like, all right, I wasn't just hearing things there. 42:08.500 --> 42:09.500 That's the real prize. 42:09.500 --> 42:10.500 He's excited. 42:10.500 --> 42:11.500 So think about this. 42:11.500 --> 42:13.500 After 40 days of inaction, 42:14.300 --> 42:21.100 After 40 days of fear 40 days of being a coward in the face of one of the enemies of God 42:21.660 --> 42:24.660 Finally one person seems like he's about to do something 42:25.060 --> 42:32.520 One person has stirred himself up and actually has faith that God is gonna allow him to defeat this enemy and he's saying hey 42:32.520 --> 42:39.040 Why not me? There's this prize. Why don't I go out there and destroy this Philistine now? Now you would think 42:39.500 --> 42:42.740 that the armies of the living God would be excited 42:42.740 --> 42:45.620 that someone has finally stepped up to the challenge. 42:45.620 --> 42:47.140 You would think that Saul is excited. 42:47.140 --> 42:48.980 Hey, he's offering this bounty. 42:48.980 --> 42:51.100 He himself wasn't fighting the battle. 42:51.100 --> 42:52.460 He wasn't getting excited. 42:52.460 --> 42:53.900 He didn't have faith in God. 42:53.900 --> 42:56.020 You would think that David's eldest brothers 42:56.020 --> 42:59.020 would be excited because they weren't doing anything. 42:59.020 --> 43:00.620 But you know what you see as a result 43:00.620 --> 43:03.060 of David actually stepping up to do something 43:03.060 --> 43:05.140 is that everyone's just against him 43:05.140 --> 43:06.940 and tries to discourage him. 43:07.400 --> 43:15.520 Okay, and you know what when someone is too afraid to do the work of God too afraid to do God's commandments 43:15.520 --> 43:22.000 You know the best thing you could do is at least shut up and not discourage other people who are willing to fight 43:22.000 --> 43:28.600 And you know what someone is who would discourage Christians from fighting the good fight from standing for the Lord 43:28.760 --> 43:34.080 From doing a great work for God. You know what there's a word for a person like that. It's called a loser an 43:34.960 --> 43:35.400 absolute 43:35.400 --> 43:38.240 And you know what, you're going to see a loser mentality. 43:38.240 --> 43:39.240 Look at verse 28. 43:39.240 --> 43:44.700 And Eliab, his eldest brother, heard when he spake unto them, and Eliab's anger was 43:44.700 --> 43:46.800 kindled against David. 43:46.800 --> 43:48.960 And he said, Why camest thou down hither? 43:48.960 --> 43:52.560 And with whom hast thou left those few sheep in the wilderness? 43:52.560 --> 43:57.120 I know thy pride and the naughtiness of thine heart, that thou art come down, that thou 43:57.120 --> 43:59.580 mightest see the battle. 43:59.580 --> 44:02.500 my sermon is the mentality of a loser. 44:02.900 --> 44:09.140 the mentality of a loser because look I don't know what Eliab and his brothers were like their entire life 44:09.140 --> 44:13.780 but I'll tell you right in this in this moment they are being losers and you know what I know 44:13.780 --> 44:18.580 that King Saul was good at one point but King Saul in this story is being a loser 44:18.800 --> 44:23.920 and the armies of Israel are being losers because they're afraid to fight the battle, 44:23.920 --> 44:29.600 they're afraid to trust God, and not only are they afraid, but they actually want to discourage the 44:29.600 --> 44:35.600 one man who's willing to fight, and you know what, that makes someone a loser. And boy, we see this 44:35.600 --> 44:42.240 all the time in our movement, in the new IFB, in Christianity as a whole, we see very few people 44:42.240 --> 44:46.640 willing to stand up against the feminist agenda. And it's like, it's bad enough. 44:46.800 --> 44:51.100 that we have to deal with these unsaved idiots against us, 44:51.100 --> 44:52.300 against our mentality. 44:52.300 --> 44:54.740 But it's so much worse, the loser Christians 44:54.740 --> 44:57.460 who don't have the guts to believe what the Bible says, 44:57.460 --> 44:59.600 and they want to attack men of God. 44:59.600 --> 45:01.340 They want to act like we're bad. 45:01.340 --> 45:03.860 They want to say, you want to scribe bad motives to us 45:03.860 --> 45:07.660 for what we're doing because they themselves are losers. 45:07.900 --> 45:11.300 And that's the sermon this morning is the mentality of a loser. 45:11.300 --> 45:15.700 I want to give you four mindsets that all losers share. 45:15.700 --> 45:21.400 Number one, losers get mad when you aren't a loser with them. 45:21.400 --> 45:26.000 Losers get mad when you are not a loser with them. 45:26.000 --> 45:27.500 Misery loves company. 45:27.500 --> 45:30.500 And you know what? When you are inadequate, when you're a failure, 45:30.500 --> 45:34.000 when you're weak, when you're a coward, it helps you feel good about yourself 45:34.000 --> 45:35.800 when you're around other weak people. 45:36.200 --> 45:42.280 And when someone actually stands up and has bravery and courage and tenacity and work ethic 45:42.280 --> 45:47.800 and intelligence and bravery, you know that threatens you. That threatens you and it makes 45:47.800 --> 45:53.160 you attack that person because inside you yourself know that you are a pathetic loser. 45:53.160 --> 45:58.920 Look at what the Bible says in verse 28. In Eliab his eldest brother heard when he spake unto the 45:58.920 --> 46:02.120 the men. Notice this in Eliab's anger. 46:02.600 --> 46:04.600 was kindled against David. 46:04.700 --> 46:09.900 And he said, Why camest thou down hither, and with whom hast thou left those few sheep in the wilderness? 46:09.900 --> 46:15.500 I know thy pride and the naughtiness of thine heart, for thou art come down that thou mightest see the battle. 46:15.500 --> 46:23.260 Why is it that Eliab was angry? Because David's bravery exposed Eliab's cowardice. 46:23.260 --> 46:28.540 You would think like, hey, here's this enemy that's been defying us 40 days, 40 nights. 46:28.540 --> 46:32.540 Isn't it awesome that someone actually wants to go defeat this Philistine instead? 46:32.700 --> 46:37.360 A man stands up and wants to defeat the flisting and what is his response anger? 46:38.100 --> 46:43.720 Getting mad, you know imagine someone's not a soul winner and they get mad that someone became a soul winner 46:43.860 --> 46:49.980 But you know what as crazy as this sounds you see this all the time in life where if a Christian decides 46:50.060 --> 46:55.940 Hey, I want to start living for God. I want to start being separated. I want to stop being a fornicator 46:55.940 --> 47:01.160 I want to stop drinking alcohol. I want to go to church three times a week. I want to go be a soul winner 47:01.160 --> 47:06.080 I want to memorize scripture. I want to read the Bible. Some of your family members will literally get mad 47:06.100 --> 47:11.900 at you. They will actually experience the emotion of anger and let me explain to 47:11.900 --> 47:16.300 you, let me pull back the veil of why this is, is because they are uncomfortable 47:16.300 --> 47:20.220 with the fact that they are a loser. Because let me tell you something, you 47:20.220 --> 47:23.700 know what the only winners in this life are people serving God, people pleasing 47:23.700 --> 47:26.500 God. Because you know what to fear God and to keep His commandments is the 47:26.500 --> 47:30.500 whole duty of man. So you know what winning in life is? Fearing God. 47:30.600 --> 47:33.300 keeping His commandments. That's what makes you a winner. 47:33.300 --> 47:36.200 And so if you're not doing that, you know what you are? A loser. 47:36.200 --> 47:40.200 And there are even a lot of Christians today that, yes, in the long run, 47:40.200 --> 47:44.200 they're on the winning side because they're saved and they can't lose their salvation, 47:44.200 --> 47:47.600 but the life that they're living on this earth is that of a loser. 47:47.600 --> 47:49.900 They're saved. They have the Holy Spirit. 47:49.900 --> 47:53.100 But you know what? A Christian that doesn't go to church is a loser. 47:53.400 --> 48:00.600 A Christian that does not want to improve and serve God and become closer to God, that is a loser mentality. 48:00.600 --> 48:05.400 And it shows itself when they start getting mad at you for becoming more godly. 48:05.400 --> 48:08.400 They're mad at you for not being a feminist like they are. 48:08.400 --> 48:15.200 They're mad at you for not holding on to this world's philosophies like they are. You know what? They are a loser. 48:15.600 --> 48:17.800 Go to 1 Peter chapter 4 and read for you. 48:17.800 --> 48:19.480 John 3 19 the Bible says, 48:19.480 --> 48:23.840 and this is the condemnation that light is come into the world 48:23.840 --> 48:27.480 and men loved darkness rather than light 48:27.480 --> 48:29.280 because their deeds were evil. 48:29.280 --> 48:31.720 For everyone that doeth evil hateth the light, 48:31.720 --> 48:33.840 neither cometh to the light, why? 48:33.840 --> 48:37.240 Lest his deeds should be reproved. 48:37.400 --> 48:41.400 So the default state of man is to love darkness, 48:41.400 --> 48:42.900 to love sin. 48:42.900 --> 48:44.400 And people don't want to see the light. 48:44.400 --> 48:46.900 People don't want the light to be shown on their life 48:46.900 --> 48:50.400 because what it does is it exposes their evil deeds. 48:50.900 --> 48:54.700 Right? So people all day long, they'll lie to themselves. 48:54.700 --> 48:57.900 And they'll say, oh, drinking alcohol isn't a sin. 48:57.900 --> 49:00.200 It's just getting drunk that's a sin. 49:00.200 --> 49:03.000 But you know what? Deep down, a lot of these people don't really believe that. 49:03.000 --> 49:06.800 You know why? Because they get mad when you don't drink. 49:06.800 --> 49:07.800 They get mad. 49:08.000 --> 49:14.040 They get angry and why is that emotion coming out of their heart because they know that drinking makes them a loser 49:14.580 --> 49:20.640 Because wine is a mocker and strong drink is raging and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise 49:21.440 --> 49:25.200 Proverbs 20 verse 1 that's what the Bible says. You're an idiot if you drink alcohol 49:25.640 --> 49:29.740 You're not wise and the Bible says hey look not thou on the wine when it is red 49:29.920 --> 49:34.040 When it gives its color in the cup when it move with itself a right, right? 49:34.040 --> 49:36.000 The Bible says don't even look at the fermented 49:36.000 --> 49:41.900 Beverage of alcohol. It's wicked. It's a sin.
