You need to go accomplish something in life 30:51.040 --> 30:56.160 But I'll tell you what people who are very wicked are often busy bodies 30:56.640 --> 31:04.620 Often meddling in other people's drama and other people's lives and it's like why is it that the Pharisees care this much? 31:05.040 --> 31:11.880 About unwashing hands when you read the totality of the Gospels and the Pharisees themselves are what very wicked people 31:12.800 --> 31:19.680 You read Matthew chapter number 23 and Jesus is just laying into these people for what wicked hypocrites 31:19.680 --> 31:24.720 They are how for a pretense they make long prayer, right? 31:24.720 --> 31:29.040 Meaning they're not sincere and their prayer to God. They're just trying to put on a show 31:29.600 --> 31:33.760 They love the high seats in the marketplace. They love to be called 31:34.300 --> 31:39.140 Rabbi, they love the titles. They love the attention, but they don't love God 31:39.700 --> 31:42.340 And you know what, someone who is just a busy body, 31:42.340 --> 31:44.300 someone who is just one of these people 31:44.300 --> 31:46.100 that can't mind their own business, 31:46.100 --> 31:47.640 it's often a reflection of the fact 31:47.640 --> 31:49.400 that they're a very wicked individual. 31:49.800 --> 31:54.040 And you know what the Bible talks about how women who are unmarried in first Timothy five 31:54.280 --> 31:59.680 How those that have what turned aside after Satan? What does their life look like their busy bodies? 32:00.040 --> 32:02.920 Their gossips they go from house to house 32:03.440 --> 32:09.180 Speaking things which they ought not and the Bible gets to the root cause of what that is is that they don't have enough work 32:09.180 --> 32:12.640 To do they don't have enough labor to do and God says hey 32:12.640 --> 32:17.680 I will that the younger ladies get married bare children guide the house 32:17.800 --> 32:23.300 give none occasion to the adversary to speak reproachfully for some are already turned aside after Satan. 32:23.300 --> 32:26.640 You know, we as men and ladies, we need to stay busy in life. 32:27.800 --> 32:31.400 Because you start to look like an idiot when you pick people apart for the dumbest things 32:31.880 --> 32:34.360 You start to look like a complete fool and you know what? 32:34.360 --> 32:39.160 You're not impressing anyone at your mommy sleuth activities. We're just thinking like you need to get to work 32:39.720 --> 32:46.040 You need to cook better meals your house needs to be cleaner man. You need to provide better when you're just a busy body inside of life 32:47.080 --> 32:52.380 Notice verse three says for the Pharisees and all the jews except they wash their hands off 32:53.000 --> 32:55.800 of the elders, go to second Thessalonians chapter two. 32:55.800 --> 32:57.740 And of course, keep your place there throughout the sermon. 32:58.000 --> 32:59.320 It's a Bible study this evening. 32:59.640 --> 33:00.280 Now let me say this. 33:00.280 --> 33:02.520 There's nothing wrong with a tradition. 33:04.200 --> 33:08.680 So long as you're not violating the Bible with your tradition, the Bible says 33:08.680 --> 33:12.680 in second Thessalonians chapter number two, let's read verse 15. 33:16.300 --> 33:20.380 The apostle Paul saying, Hey, I want you guys to follow the traditions that we gave you. 33:20.380 --> 33:23.660 I want you to follow the example that we gave you. 33:23.900 --> 33:24.380 And you know what? 33:24.380 --> 33:28.780 It's good to hang on to the traditions that are passed down to us from previous 33:28.780 --> 33:33.740 generations, so long as those traditions are not causing us to transgress God's 33:33.740 --> 33:34.460 commandments. 33:44.200 --> 33:48.360 And that's really what Jesus is going to get into here is because you know, they washed their hands off 33:48.760 --> 33:55.160 I mean they're really into their hands being pure and their hands being clean because they want to hold on to this tradition 33:55.400 --> 33:57.560 But Jesus is going to point out that they're violating 33:58.280 --> 34:00.760 God's commandments in all sorts of other ways 34:01.320 --> 34:08.620 And i'm all for people having their tradition what i'm not for is people trumpeting their tradition while they violate scripture 34:09.200 --> 34:13.320 Honestly, there's just a wide variety of people that are very guilty of this 34:13.520 --> 34:19.760 You could look at the very extreme end of the spectrum which would be like what Catholics and Orthodox? 34:20.240 --> 34:23.680 these people would elevate tradition over scripture and 34:24.160 --> 34:28.880 They don't really care what the Bible says. They don't really care if you show them. Hey call no man father 34:29.000 --> 34:35.100 They don't care when Jesus says not to disfigure your faces when you're fasting cuz tradition, bro 34:35.700 --> 34:39.940 You know, I saw a comment today that was just like, how in the world can you say 34:40.140 --> 34:44.820 that the apostolic churches that that passed us down, the Catholic Church 34:44.820 --> 34:47.260 and the Orthodox Church could be teaching a false gospel. 34:47.260 --> 34:49.180 And it's like, bro, read Galatians. 34:49.380 --> 34:51.900 People were perverting the gospel in the first century. 34:52.460 --> 34:53.260 So here's the thing. 34:53.260 --> 34:56.060 We as Christians pay traditions can be fine. 34:56.220 --> 34:57.980 Even old traditions can be fine. 34:58.100 --> 34:59.940 So long as it's not violating the Bible. 35:00.300 --> 35:06.540 But I don't care how far back your tradition goes if it violates scripture. We should reject it out of hand 35:06.860 --> 35:13.340 That's one of the things I love about being a baptist is that I am so free and at liberty to do what the bible says 35:13.820 --> 35:18.140 And it doesn't matter who said it doesn't matter if your favorite old ifb preacher said something 35:18.380 --> 35:22.000 If it doesn't match with what the bible says we're going to what the bible says 35:22.400 --> 35:27.760 So you got one extreme is like the Orthodox and the Catholic then you got other in another end of the spectrum where it's not 35:27.760 --> 35:30.740 As extreme but people still violate this, you know 35:30.740 --> 35:35.040 I would say that there's some old ifb churches that violate this where they want to act like hey 35:35.040 --> 35:38.120 If you don't have an old-fashioned altar call praise God 35:38.120 --> 35:43.060 You're not even a real church and no church who doesn't have an old-fashioned altar calls worth their salt 35:43.060 --> 35:45.780 And it's like okay. Well show me that in the Bible 35:46.600 --> 35:51.500 Now look man, if you want to have an altar call, you knock yourself out, you're the pastor of your church, 35:51.500 --> 35:53.640 you're in charge of your church, you do whatever you want, 35:53.640 --> 35:58.600 but you know what, you don't get to sit here and hold other people to the same standards that you have. 35:59.000 --> 36:00.160 What is a standard? 36:00.160 --> 36:04.280 A standard is where I look at a principle that God's word teaches and I come up with 36:04.280 --> 36:05.760 a standard for my life. 36:05.760 --> 36:06.760 Right? 36:06.760 --> 36:10.240 So I recently preached on music and I look at how the Bible teaches. 36:10.240 --> 36:11.800 It affects your spirit. 36:11.800 --> 36:12.800 It teaches you. 36:12.800 --> 36:14.540 There's a culture associated with that. 36:14.540 --> 36:17.760 And so I come up with a music standard for my family. 36:17.760 --> 36:18.760 Now guess what? 36:18.760 --> 36:22.640 I as someone in authority over my family, I could enforce my standard on my family. 36:23.400 --> 36:27.640 And I can enforce my standard that doesn't violate the Bible on church because I'm the pastor 36:28.120 --> 36:33.560 But you know what I don't do is I don't enforce my personal standards on your personal life 36:34.280 --> 36:36.280 That's where it gets too far 36:36.280 --> 36:40.760 And look, I think washing your hands is cool. I'm all for washing your hands. That's awesome 36:41.080 --> 36:43.900 But if you don't want to wash your hands knock yourself out 36:44.200 --> 36:49.280 It's not gonna be like you can't come to anchor Baptist Church if you don't wash your hands before you eat now 36:49.280 --> 36:53.200 You know, I don't necessarily want to eat the same finger food with you. That's for sure 36:53.720 --> 36:57.400 But you know, I'm not gonna make a big deal out of it. And look people who are busybodies 36:57.400 --> 37:01.420 They just make a big deal out of little things and it's very annoying to be around 37:02.560 --> 37:07.720 Go back if you would to mark chapter 7 mark chapter number 7 37:08.800 --> 37:12.160 So let's get another detail here in verse four. It says, And when they come from the market, 37:12.160 --> 37:18.480 except they wash not, except they wash, they eat not. And many other things there be which 37:18.480 --> 37:25.760 they have received to hold as the washing of cups and pots, brazen vessels, and of tables. 37:26.100 --> 37:27.900 And so look, there's nothing wrong with these things. 37:27.900 --> 37:31.540 They could do them, but they cannot hold other people to the same standards. 37:31.540 --> 37:36.220 So for example, think about chapters like Romans chapter number 14 talks about, 37:36.420 --> 37:40.340 hey, he that honors the day to the Lord, he honors it to the Lord. 37:40.340 --> 37:41.140 He regards it. 37:41.340 --> 37:44.940 Hey, he that doesn't celebrate a holiday to the Lord, he does not regard it. 37:45.140 --> 37:47.980 Let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind. 37:48.400 --> 37:51.160 So we have traditions in America, things like Christmas. 37:51.160 --> 37:52.640 I happen to like that tradition. 37:52.640 --> 37:54.320 I'm going to celebrate that tradition. 37:54.320 --> 37:56.500 If you don't want to, that's fine. 37:56.600 --> 38:02.520 But here's where people get off is the people who don't want to celebrate that holiday often are saying like you're a pagan 38:02.920 --> 38:07.160 If you celebrate christmas, you're a pagan if you celebrate easter and it's like no 38:07.160 --> 38:12.280 You just actually railed is what you did because what we're doing is we're celebrating the birth of jesus 38:12.760 --> 38:18.120 I I didn't say, you know astereth. I didn't say molok. I didn't say bail. I said jesus 38:18.680 --> 38:22.700 We're celebrating the birth of jesus christ. How in the world is that pagan? 38:23.600 --> 38:29.080 Well, if you go to Jeremiah, it talks about a treat. Yeah, and it's saying like hey, don't be afraid of it 38:29.080 --> 38:33.280 It doesn't have a mouth. It doesn't have eyes. It doesn't have ears. It's not talking about a Christmas tree, but look people just get so into their personal opinions on their personal standards 38:40.400 --> 38:45.800 It's like look you have your standards, but don't try to push that on other people whom you have no authority over 38:46.520 --> 38:48.700 We do have Liberty as Christians 38:49.500 --> 38:55.780 Okay, so then it says in verse number five says then the Pharisees and scribes asked him why? 38:56.260 --> 38:59.760 Walk not thy disciples according to the tradition of the elders 39:00.420 --> 39:06.680 But eat bread with unwashed hands now. They're way out of line to ask this question because who are these people? 39:07.400 --> 39:11.560 Like do they have any authority over Jesus or over Jesus's disciples? 39:11.800 --> 39:14.760 But yet they just want to come and just demand something of him 39:14.760 --> 39:18.680 And it's like you don't get to just demand things of people you have no authority over 39:19.000 --> 39:21.000 You're just a busy body. Who do you think you are? 39:21.320 --> 39:26.760 Just saying why do your disciples do this? You know, Jesus is not very soft with them how he answers 39:27.560 --> 39:32.220 He doesn't say oh, let me explain myself. Here's here's why we do it. Notice his reaction here. He says 39:32.500 --> 39:38.900 He answered and said unto them, Well, Hath Isaias prophesied of you hypocrites, as it 39:38.900 --> 39:43.900 is written, This people honoreth me with their lips, but their heart is far from me. 39:43.900 --> 39:48.020 So notice he wasn't worried about this demanding question. 39:48.020 --> 39:50.540 He wasn't going to trip all over his words. 39:50.540 --> 39:53.740 He's just saying, man, the Bible's so true, you wicked hypocrites. 39:54.300 --> 40:00.180 Man, the Bible is so true about you wicked hypocrites who with your mouth want to honor 40:00.180 --> 40:05.900 God and play this game like you're pretending like you love God, but your heart is far from 40:05.900 --> 40:06.900 Him. 40:06.900 --> 40:12.900 And you know, people could do oftentimes religious actions that are in the flesh. 40:12.900 --> 40:17.300 Now, 100% of unsaved people who are religious are doing this. 40:17.900 --> 40:22.900 100% of unsaved religious people are hypocrites. 40:23.900 --> 40:25.400 Because what is a hypocrite? 40:25.400 --> 40:27.540 A hypocrite in the Bible could be a couple things. 40:27.540 --> 40:30.180 It could be one who says and does not. 40:30.180 --> 40:32.660 It also could be someone who says things 40:32.660 --> 40:34.400 that they don't believe. 40:34.700 --> 40:38.700 This is usually how Jesus is using the word hypocrite. 40:38.700 --> 40:42.700 It's people that just get up and say things that they don't actually believe. 40:42.700 --> 40:43.700 Now let me help you. 40:43.700 --> 40:49.700 100% of Christians that are not saved are saying things they don't believe. 40:49.700 --> 40:54.700 Because they're saying they believe the Bible, and if you believe the Bible, you'd be saved. 40:54.700 --> 41:00.700 If you believed in Jesus, you'd actually believe the Gospel of Jesus Christ, which is faith alone. 41:01.200 --> 41:04.000 And so you get up and say, oh, I'm a Christian, 41:04.000 --> 41:05.160 but you believe in works. 41:05.160 --> 41:06.760 Oh, yeah, salvation's by faith. 41:06.760 --> 41:09.000 But ah, ah, you're unsaved. 41:09.000 --> 41:12.040 Whatever was going to come after that, I don't care what it was, 41:12.040 --> 41:13.160 you're unsaved. 41:13.160 --> 41:15.440 No, no, no, it's faith alone. 41:15.440 --> 41:17.760 And so look, there's a lot of hypocrites in this world 41:17.760 --> 41:23.240 that honor God with their lips, but their heart is far from God. 41:23.240 --> 41:24.440 How about the Jews? 41:28.100 --> 41:33.940 Jesus said if you would have believed Moses you would have believed me for he wrote of me 41:34.260 --> 41:37.980 So Jews the Bible rightly says that they are liars 41:38.520 --> 41:43.020 Who is a liar that he then he that denied that Jesus is the Christ is? 41:43.500 --> 41:48.880 Antichrist that denieth the father and the son. How is it that they're liars because they say they believe the Torah 41:49.580 --> 41:51.580 They say they believe the Tanakh 41:51.700 --> 41:55.460 But they don't. They are liars.
