Amen 25:36.020 --> 25:38.020 Mark chapter one 25:38.580 --> 25:41.160 Last week we talked about verses one through 15 25:41.700 --> 25:47.220 We're going to go ahead and finish this chapter this evening and this chapter is going to focus on two main things 25:47.780 --> 25:55.140 Jesus choosing his disciples his disciples getting chosen to go do their work and also jesus's preaching and healing 25:55.620 --> 26:00.440 And his work, so let's start in verse number 16 number one. Jesus calls his disciples 26:01.100 --> 26:05.180 It says in verse 16 now as he walked by the sea of Galilee 26:05.420 --> 26:11.200 He saw Simon and Andrew his brother casting a net into the sea for they were fishers 26:11.200 --> 26:18.440 And Jesus said unto them come ye after me and I will make you to become fishers of men 26:19.100 --> 26:25.600 One thing I really like about this story is that it goes to show us that the Lord Jesus Christ is ready. 26:25.600 --> 26:29.100 He's willing. He wants to use just regular people. 26:29.600 --> 26:32.100 You know, he didn't go down to the temple. 26:32.100 --> 26:34.000 He didn't go to the Bible college. 26:34.000 --> 26:37.200 He literally is just walking as he's on his way. 26:37.200 --> 26:40.240 He's just happening to be walking by the Sea of Galilee, 26:40.240 --> 26:43.480 and he just sees Simon and Andrew, his brother. 26:43.480 --> 26:45.620 They're casting a net into the sea, 26:45.620 --> 26:47.480 and he just says, hey, follow me. 26:48.000 --> 26:54.080 And you know what I what I think is is being pointed out here. I don't think that necessarily you know, Jesus 26:54.400 --> 26:58.560 You know preordained all this stuff to happen. You know you could get a degree, you can go to Bible college and 28:08.500 --> 28:13.100 still be a fool spiritually and you could go get a degree and go to Bible 28:13.100 --> 28:16.780 college and not be one that follows Jesus. You know how I know that because 28:16.780 --> 28:19.780 one of the things he talks about here is if you follow me I will make you to 28:19.780 --> 28:23.640 become fishers of men and you know what I see a lot of Bible colleges in America 28:23.640 --> 28:27.300 producing graduates that don't do aggressive soul winning. 28:27.500 --> 28:32.700 You know that's telling me there's a lot of theological training out there that's giving people letters after their name, but you know what? 28:32.700 --> 28:34.700 They're not actually making disciples 28:34.700 --> 28:41.940 Here's what the Bible says in first Corinthians 1 verse 26 for ye see you're calling brethren how that notice not many wise men 28:42.380 --> 28:47.940 After the flesh not many mighty not many noble are called 28:48.800 --> 28:52.000 It's very rare to see someone, 28:52.000 --> 28:54.340 being an effective servant of God, 28:54.340 --> 28:56.840 it's very rare to see a really effective pastor, 28:56.840 --> 29:00.180 and they just happen to be super, super intelligent, 29:00.180 --> 29:04.060 super, super wise, and also be super mighty, 29:04.060 --> 29:05.980 you know, these athletic specimens. 29:05.980 --> 29:08.960 You know, you don't see a lot of NFL players become pastors. 29:08.960 --> 29:10.420 You don't see a lot of Major League Baseball players 29:10.420 --> 29:12.000 becoming pastors, right? 29:12.000 --> 29:15.900 Or many noble, like the rich and highly esteemed 29:15.900 --> 29:16.800 and well-to-do. 29:16.800 --> 29:22.660 You don't very you don't see it very often those type of people serving God now. Does that mean those people can't know? 29:22.660 --> 29:25.440 Of course they can but the Bible saying not very many 29:25.780 --> 29:31.780 Right and when you look at Simon and Andrew, of course Simon is Peter these men were not mighty in the flesh 29:32.060 --> 29:37.320 They are not so wise above other men where they had special training. They were not noble 29:37.440 --> 29:44.740 They're literally fishermen, but you know what they were called by Jesus Christ and they did great works with their life verse 27 29:44.800 --> 29:52.500 But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise, and God hath 29:52.500 --> 29:58.440 chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty." 29:58.440 --> 30:00.760 See God actually takes great pleasure. 30:01.200 --> 30:07.840 Using something that the world would look at and say that's foolish. That's weak. What has the stained glass windows? 31:14.720 --> 31:17.600 You know what has the beautiful architecture, but you? 31:17.600 --> 31:21.900 Here's the thing, does that sound like that's the way we should be judging who's going to 31:21.900 --> 31:23.340 be used greatly by God? 31:23.340 --> 31:28.020 If anything, hey, if something's based according to the world or despised by the world, there's 31:28.020 --> 31:31.800 actually a greater likelihood that that person's going to be used by God. 31:32.200 --> 31:34.420 Not all these high and fancy things. 31:34.420 --> 31:37.040 Now look, rich people, mighty people, wise people, 31:37.040 --> 31:38.840 they could be used greatly by God too, 31:38.840 --> 31:41.480 if they stay humble and they're ready 31:41.480 --> 31:42.740 to give all the glory to God. 31:42.740 --> 31:45.760 The whole reason people who are mighty, wealthy, 31:45.760 --> 31:49.240 noble, great in the flesh, often aren't used by God, 31:49.240 --> 31:50.640 not because God can't use them, 31:50.640 --> 31:52.200 but because they're often not humble. 31:52.300 --> 31:57.340 They're not willing to do something called follow Jesus, right? You know, that's a position of humility 31:57.420 --> 32:01.100 You're following the leader. You're listening to him. You're getting on his program 32:02.380 --> 32:04.380 Go if you would to matthew 28 32:05.260 --> 32:09.440 Mark 1 verse 17 says this jesus said unto them come ye after me 32:10.000 --> 32:14.100 I will make you to become fishers of men 32:14.100 --> 32:18.300 You know this is talking about soul winning preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ 32:18.300 --> 32:23.580 And you know what soul winning is not an optional part of following Jesus 32:23.980 --> 32:30.300 Jesus said hey come ye after me and I will make you to become fishers of men 32:30.300 --> 32:35.940 I'm not gonna get up here and say the only part of being a disciple of Jesus is soul winning 32:35.940 --> 32:37.940 But I will say this if you're not a soul 32:38.000 --> 32:42.440 You're not a disciple. I didn't say you're not saved. There's lots of people 32:42.440 --> 32:46.240 Hey, the Bible says believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved 32:46.400 --> 32:46.900 Hey 32:46.900 --> 32:53.820 You are justified by faith without the deeds of the law if someone believes in Christ and they never won another soul to Christ 32:53.820 --> 32:58.920 That person is going to heaven and praise God for that. We're doing a soul winning marathon. Okay. Here's what the Bible says 33:34.640 --> 33:41.880 You don't have to turn here Proverbs 1130 the fruit of the righteous is a tree of life and he that winneth souls is 33:42.160 --> 33:43.360 wise 33:43.360 --> 33:48.600 He that winneth souls, you know what that means we can win souls 33:49.200 --> 33:52.720 And the same type of an idiot, the same type of a fool, 33:52.720 --> 33:54.580 that would sit here and mock the idea of like, 33:54.580 --> 33:55.880 oh, we get people saved, 33:55.880 --> 33:57.880 they would have just mocked Jesus for saying, 33:57.880 --> 34:00.920 oh, you're gonna become a fisher of men? 34:00.920 --> 34:01.760 What are you gonna do? 34:01.760 --> 34:03.760 You're gonna get a big hook and hook a man? 34:03.760 --> 34:06.000 It's like, no, dummy, he's talking about soul winning. 34:06.300 --> 34:13.280 Jesus is literally saying if you follow me, I will make you to become fishers of men the whole point of 34:13.920 --> 34:20.680 Believing in Jesus is to get saved and the whole point of following Jesus is to preach the gospel 34:21.660 --> 34:23.660 Look at what the Bible says in Matthew 28 34:24.940 --> 34:31.680 Here's the Great Commission in verse 19. Jesus said go ye therefore and teach all nations now 34:32.700 --> 34:38.540 Sorry to cut off the middle that verse this just came to my mind. Okay, the very beginning of Jesus choosing his disciples 34:38.540 --> 34:41.060 What does he tell them you're gonna become fishers of men now? 34:41.060 --> 34:47.380 The very last thing he says to his disciples before he's gonna send to the father is what go you there for and teach all 34:47.380 --> 34:52.620 Nations sounds like this is the main thing about following Jesus.
