WEBVTT

14:26.100 --> 14:31.440
Anchor Baptist Church. It is time to get started this evening. If you would turn to our first

14:31.440 --> 14:43.520
hymn in your hymnal, number 102, He Hideth My Soul. Hymn number 102102, He Hideth My

14:43.520 --> 14:44.360
My soul.

14:53.000 --> 14:55.600
102, let's sing it out all together.

14:55.600 --> 15:02.880
A wonderful Savior is Jesus, my Lord.

15:02.880 --> 15:07.680
A wonderful Savior to be.

15:09.800 --> 15:23.800
He hideth my soul in the cleft of the rock, Where rivers of pleasure I see.

15:23.800 --> 15:36.800
He hideth my soul in the cleft of the rock, That shadows a dry, thirsty land.

15:37.600 --> 15:44.600
He hideth my life in the depths of his love,

15:44.600 --> 15:51.600
And covers me there with his hand,

15:51.600 --> 15:56.200
And covers me there with his hand.

15:58.500 --> 16:12.740
A wonderful Savior is Jesus my Lord, He taketh my burden away.

16:12.740 --> 16:24.800
He holdeth me up, and I shall not be moved, He giveth me strength as my day.

16:26.500 --> 16:40.500
He hideth my soul in the cleft of the rock, At shadows a dry thirsty land.

16:40.500 --> 16:53.500
He hideth my life in the depths of his love, And covers me there with his hand.

16:54.800 --> 17:01.800
And God hears me there with his hand

17:01.800 --> 17:08.800
With numberless blessings each moment he crowns

17:08.800 --> 17:14.800
And filled with his fullness he ponders

17:16.100 --> 17:27.940
I sing in my rapture of glory to God, for such a Redeemer as mine.

17:30.200 --> 17:37.220
He hideth my soul in the clasp of the rock

17:37.220 --> 17:44.220
That shadows a dry, thirsty land.

17:44.220 --> 17:51.220
He hideth my life in the depths of his love

17:51.220 --> 17:57.220
And covers me there with his hand.

17:58.600 --> 18:02.700
And covers me there with his

18:05.700 --> 18:12.700
When clothed in his brightness, transported I rise

18:12.700 --> 18:18.700
To meet him in clouds of the sky

18:19.700 --> 18:26.700
His perfect salvation, his wonderful love

18:26.700 --> 18:31.700
I'll shout with a million song high

18:31.700 --> 18:33.700
Sing it out!

18:33.900 --> 18:41.060
He hideth my soul in the clad of the rock,

18:41.060 --> 18:47.740
And shadows of dry thirsty hands.

18:48.100 --> 18:55.260
He hideth my life in the depths of his love,

18:55.260 --> 19:02.300
And covers me there with his hand,

19:02.300 --> 19:06.460
And covers me there with his hand.

19:09.600 --> 19:11.760
Men, this time we'll open with a word of prayer.

19:11.760 --> 19:13.100
So bow your heads with me.

19:13.800 --> 19:20.020
Heavenly Father, we thank you for another opportunity to gather together that this is not simply a vain repetition, Lord,

19:20.020 --> 19:25.680
but that we should be and I pray that we are thankful for each and every time that we get to come together to assemble freely

19:25.800 --> 19:30.360
to hear praises and sing praises rather out to you and hear your word preached.

19:30.520 --> 19:36.560
Lord, I pray that you'd be with the seeds that were planted this evening that you would allow those to germinate and to grow into

19:36.760 --> 19:41.680
a faith. Also pray that you would remove any distractions from

19:41.800 --> 19:45.460
the service this evening that you would open our ears to the message and fill

19:45.460 --> 19:50.880
pastor with your spirit these things we pray in Jesus name amen for our next

19:50.880 --> 20:01.600
him number 208 grace greater than our sin 208 208

20:08.200 --> 20:10.200
208, let's sing together.

20:10.700 --> 20:17.920
Marvelous grace of our loving Lord,

20:17.920 --> 20:24.880
Grace that exceeds our sin and our guilt,

20:24.880 --> 20:31.820
Yonder on Calvary's mound outboard,

20:31.820 --> 20:38.620
There where the blood of the Lamb was spilled.

20:38.800 --> 20:52.600
Grace, grace, God's grace, grace that will pour down and cleanse within.

20:52.600 --> 20:57.200
Grace, grace, God's grace.

21:00.500 --> 21:06.300
that is greater than all our sin.

21:06.300 --> 21:16.300
Sin and despair like the sea waves cold threaten the soul

21:16.300 --> 21:20.420
with infinite loss.

21:20.420 --> 21:25.580
Grace that is greater, yes, grace untold.

21:27.300 --> 21:34.300
Moans to the refuge the mighty crawls.

21:34.300 --> 21:41.300
Grace, grace, God's grace.

21:41.300 --> 21:48.300
Grace that will pardon and cleanse within.

21:48.300 --> 21:52.800
Grace, grace, God.

21:56.000 --> 22:02.000
that is greater than all our sin.

22:02.000 --> 22:09.000
Dark is the stain that we cannot hide.

22:09.000 --> 22:16.000
What can avail to wash it away?

22:16.000 --> 22:22.000
Look, there is flowing a crimson tide.

22:23.700 --> 22:29.700
Earth and snow you may be today.

22:29.700 --> 22:36.700
Grace, grace, God's grace,

22:36.700 --> 22:43.700
Grace that will pardon and cleanse within.

22:43.700 --> 22:48.700
Grace, grace, God's grace.

22:51.500 --> 22:57.500
that is greater than all our sin.

22:57.500 --> 23:04.500
Marvelous, infinite, matchless grace

23:04.500 --> 23:11.500
freely bestowed on all who believe

23:11.500 --> 23:18.300
you that are longing to see His face.

23:18.400 --> 23:25.240
Will you this moment is grace, gracey?

23:25.240 --> 23:32.040
Grace, grace, God's grace,

23:32.040 --> 23:38.920
Grace that will pardon and cleanse within.

23:38.920 --> 23:45.200
Grace, grace, God's grace.

23:45.800 --> 23:52.400
race that is greater than all our sins.

29:21.300 --> 29:27.860
For our third song, you should now have access to somewhere near you, a binder.

29:28.100 --> 29:34.900
of handouts. So these will effectively replace our white handouts. These new binders have

29:34.900 --> 29:39.900
the Psalms and some printouts. If you need one and you don't have one, maybe raise your

29:39.900 --> 29:43.780
hand and we'll see if one of them in. I think they were evenly distributed out, so you should

29:43.780 --> 29:50.780
be good. So we'll be singing Psalm 117. They are in order. Psalm 117.

29:54.600 --> 30:00.440
Oh praise the Lord, all ye nations. Psalm 117.

30:03.200 --> 30:08.400
We're going to sing Psalm 117 there on that first and only verse.

30:08.400 --> 30:13.300
Oh, praise the Lord, all ye nations.

30:13.800 --> 30:26.600
Praise Him all ye people, for His merciful kindness is great toward us, and the truth

30:26.600 --> 30:31.720
of the Lord endureth forever.

30:31.720 --> 30:35.800
Praise ye the Lord.

30:44.000 --> 30:48.560
As the offering plates are being passed, turn if you would to Mark chapter number 10.

30:49.680 --> 30:52.080
Mark chapter number 10.

31:32.500 --> 31:37.860
Mark chapter 10, And he arose from thence, and cometh into the coast of Judea by the

31:37.860 --> 31:39.700
farther side of Jordan.

31:39.700 --> 31:44.100
And the people resorted unto him again, and as he was wont, he taught them again.

31:44.100 --> 31:48.820
And the Pharisees came to him, and asked him, Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife,

31:48.820 --> 31:49.820
tempting him?

31:49.820 --> 31:53.540
And he answered and said unto them, What did Moses command you?

31:53.540 --> 31:57.740
And they said, Moses suffered to write a bill of divorcement, and to put her away.

31:58.100 --> 32:02.300
And Jesus answered and said unto them, For the hardness of your heart he wrote you this

32:02.300 --> 32:07.560
precept, but from the beginning of the creation God made them male and female.

32:07.560 --> 32:12.180
For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and cleave to his wife, and they

32:12.180 --> 32:14.340
twain shall be one flesh.

32:14.340 --> 32:17.460
So then they are no more twain, but one flesh.

32:17.460 --> 32:20.980
What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.

32:21.400 --> 32:24.760
And in the house his disciples asked him again of the same matter.

32:24.760 --> 32:28.760
And he saith unto them, Whosoever shall put away his wife and marry another,

32:28.760 --> 32:33.000
committeth adultery against her. And if a woman shall put away her husband

32:33.000 --> 32:37.160
and be married to another, she committeth adultery.

32:37.160 --> 32:40.200
And they brought young children to him, that he should touch them.

32:40.200 --> 32:43.000
And his disciples rebuked those that brought them.

32:43.100 --> 32:47.980
But when Jesus saw it, he was much displeased, and said unto them, Suffer the little children

32:47.980 --> 32:52.940
to come unto me, and forbid them not, for of such is the kingdom of God.

32:52.940 --> 32:58.380
Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child,

32:58.380 --> 33:00.380
he shall not enter therein.

33:00.380 --> 33:04.260
And he took them up in his arms, and put his hands upon them, and blessed them.

33:04.700 --> 33:09.420
And when he was gone forth into the way, there came one running, and kneeled to him, and

33:09.420 --> 33:14.580
asked him, Good Master, what shall I do that I may inherit eternal life?

33:14.580 --> 33:17.500
And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good?

33:17.500 --> 33:20.060
There is none good but one, that is God.

33:20.060 --> 33:22.060
Thou knowest the commandments.

33:22.060 --> 33:27.380
Do not commit adultery, do not kill, do not steal, do not bear false witness, defraud

33:27.380 --> 33:29.300
not, honor thy father and mother.

33:29.800 --> 33:33.800
And he answered and said unto him, Master, all these have I observed from my youth.

33:34.600 --> 33:40.280
Then Jesus beholding him loved him, and said unto him, One thing thou lackest, go thy way,

33:40.280 --> 33:45.720
so whatsoever thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven, and come,

33:45.720 --> 33:50.600
take up the cross, and follow me. And he was sad at that saying, and went away grieved,

33:50.600 --> 33:52.120
for he had great possessions.

33:53.100 --> 33:57.880
And Jesus looked round about and saith unto his disciples, How hardly shall they that

33:57.880 --> 34:01.620
have riches enter into the kingdom of God?

34:01.620 --> 34:04.040
And the disciples were astonished at his words.

34:04.040 --> 34:09.040
But Jesus answereth again and saith unto them, Children, how hard is it for them that trust

34:09.040 --> 34:11.920
in riches to enter into the kingdom of God?

34:11.920 --> 34:17.680
It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter

34:17.680 --> 34:18.800
into the Kingdom of God.

34:19.200 --> 34:23.920
And they were astonished out of measure, saying among themselves, Who then can be saved?

34:23.920 --> 34:29.520
And Jesus looking upon them saith, With men it is impossible, but not with God.

34:29.520 --> 34:32.140
For with God all things are possible.

34:32.140 --> 34:36.280
Then Peter began to say unto him, Lo, we have left all, and have followed thee.

34:36.600 --> 34:41.960
And Jesus answered and said, Verily I say unto you, there is no man that hath left house,

34:41.960 --> 34:46.880
or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my sake

34:46.880 --> 34:48.720
in the gospels.

34:48.720 --> 34:53.200
But he shall receive in hundredfold now and this time houses, and brethren, and sisters,

34:53.200 --> 34:57.960
and mothers, and children, and lands, with persecutions, and in the world to come eternal

34:57.960 --> 34:58.960
life.

34:58.960 --> 35:02.200
Many that are first shall be last, and the last first.

35:02.800 --> 35:07.600
And they were in the way going up to Jerusalem, and Jesus went before them, and they were

35:07.600 --> 35:08.600
amazed.

35:08.600 --> 35:10.760
And as they followed, they were afraid.

35:10.760 --> 35:15.440
And he took again the twelve, and began to tell them what things should happen unto him,

35:15.440 --> 35:16.100
saying,

35:16.300 --> 35:21.380
Behold, we go up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man shall be delivered unto the chief priests,

35:21.380 --> 35:22.940
and unto the scribes.

35:22.940 --> 35:26.780
And they shall condemn him to death, and shall deliver him to the Gentiles.

35:26.780 --> 35:30.920
And they shall mock him, and shall scourge him, and shall spit upon him, and shall kill

35:30.920 --> 35:31.920
him.

35:31.920 --> 35:34.340
And the third day he shall rise again.

35:34.340 --> 35:39.780
And James and John, the sons of Zebedee, come unto him, saying, Master, we would that thou

35:39.780 --> 35:42.460
shouldest do for us whatsoever we shall desire.

35:42.800 --> 35:46.680
And He said unto them, What would ye that I should do for you?

35:46.680 --> 35:51.020
They said unto Him, Grant unto us that we may sit, one on thy right hand, and the other

35:51.020 --> 35:54.400
on thy left hand, in thy glory.

35:54.400 --> 35:57.480
But Jesus said unto them, Ye know not what ye ask.

35:57.480 --> 36:02.120
Can ye drink of the cup that I drink of, and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized

36:02.120 --> 36:02.400
with?

36:02.800 --> 36:04.800
And they said unto him, We can.

36:04.800 --> 36:08.800
And Jesus said unto them, You shall indeed drink of the cup that I drink of,

36:08.800 --> 36:12.800
and with the baptism that I am baptized withal shall ye be baptized.

36:12.800 --> 36:16.300
But to sit on my right hand and on my left hand is not mine to give,

36:16.300 --> 36:19.300
but it shall be given to them for whom it is prepared.

36:19.300 --> 36:23.800
And when the ten heard it, they began to be much displeased with James and John.

36:23.800 --> 36:27.200
But Jesus called them to him, and saith unto them,

36:27.800 --> 36:32.920
You know that they which are accounted the rule over the Gentiles exercise lordship over them,

36:32.920 --> 36:38.760
and their great ones exercise authority upon them. But so shall it not be among you. But

36:38.760 --> 36:44.760
whosoever will be great among you shall be your minister, and whosoever of you will be the chiefest

36:44.760 --> 36:50.840
shall be servant of all. For even the Son of Man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister,

36:50.840 --> 36:52.840
and to give his life a ransom for many.

36:53.300 --> 36:59.300
And they came to Jericho. And as he went out of Jericho with his disciples and a great number of people,

36:59.300 --> 37:04.300
blind Bartimaeus the son of Timaeus sat by the highway side begging.

37:04.300 --> 37:09.300
And when he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out and say,

37:09.300 --> 37:12.300
Jesus, thou son of David, have mercy on me.

37:12.300 --> 37:17.300
And many charged him that he should hold his peace, but he cried the more a great deal.

37:17.300 --> 37:19.300
thou son of David, have mercy on me.

37:19.500 --> 37:22.500
And Jesus stood still and commanded him to be called.

37:22.500 --> 37:27.500
And they called the blind man, saying unto him, Be of good comfort, rise, he calleth thee.

37:27.500 --> 37:30.500
And he, casting away his garment, rose and came to Jesus.

37:30.500 --> 37:35.500
And Jesus answered and said unto him, What wilt thou that I should do unto thee?

37:35.500 --> 37:39.500
The blind man said unto him, Lord, that I might receive my sight.

37:39.500 --> 37:44.500
And Jesus said unto him, Go thy way, thy faith hath made thee whole.

37:45.100 --> 37:49.100
and immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus in the way.

37:49.100 --> 37:53.900
Let's pray. Dear Heavenly Father, I pray that you'd fill Pastor Oz with your spirit this evening

37:53.900 --> 37:57.900
and bring the teaching edifying sermon for us and for us to receive it.

37:58.900 --> 38:01.540
Man, we're in Mark chapter number 10.

38:01.540 --> 38:06.980
And of course, we're building in the book of Mark to the climax of the cross.

38:06.980 --> 38:11.460
And so this chapter is really Jesus on his way to Jerusalem.

38:11.460 --> 38:14.960
Starts there in verse number one, it says, and he arose from thence and cometh into the

38:14.960 --> 38:18.180
coast of Judea by the farther side of Jordan.

38:18.180 --> 38:19.860
And the people resort unto him again.

38:19.860 --> 38:22.900
And as he was want, he taught them again.

38:22.900 --> 38:26.700
By the way, it means that he had a habit or custom of doing something.

38:26.700 --> 38:26.900
It's always.

38:26.900 --> 38:32.020
good to have the habit to preach and that's not just for preachers that's for all of us

38:32.020 --> 38:36.500
as soul winners we should make that a habit to where we could say hey as he was want he went

38:36.500 --> 38:44.580
and he preached the gospel verse 2 says and the Pharisees came to him and asked him is it lawful

38:44.580 --> 38:49.380
for a man to put away his wife notice tempting him

38:49.900 --> 38:56.780
Now, this is a topic that many people in our society are asking themselves because divorce,

38:56.780 --> 39:03.780
unfortunately, is a very, very common thing in our nation where over 50% of marriages

39:03.780 --> 39:05.540
end in divorce.

39:05.540 --> 39:09.340
And when people get remarried, sadly, the divorce rate is even higher for the second

39:09.340 --> 39:10.340
marriage.

39:10.340 --> 39:13.920
And here's the really sad part is that the divorce rate amongst Christians is really

39:13.920 --> 39:16.260
not that much different than the world.

39:16.260 --> 39:17.900
What I want you to notice from this verse right here.

39:17.900 --> 39:23.780
here is that the Pharisees are asking Jesus this question insincerely, right?

39:23.780 --> 39:27.420
Because the Bible says that they ask this question, is it lawful for a man to

39:27.420 --> 39:32.300
put away his wife, tempting him? Now why does the Bible give us this detail?

39:32.300 --> 39:37.460
Because I believe that any sincere person who actually goes to the Scripture is

39:37.460 --> 39:43.000
not going to ask such a foolish question because the answer is no.

39:43.100 --> 39:46.380
Divorce is not something that God allows.

39:46.380 --> 39:48.680
Now let me make it very clear because of the fact

39:48.680 --> 39:52.140
that divorce is so prevalent in our societies.

39:52.140 --> 39:54.020
Sometimes people get the wrong idea

39:54.020 --> 39:56.220
when they hear preaching against divorce.

39:56.220 --> 39:58.620
Some people be like, can I even go to church

39:58.620 --> 39:59.460
if I've been divorced?

39:59.460 --> 40:01.120
Of course, the answer is yes.

40:01.300 --> 40:04.740
Teaching about divorce and teaching about divorce and remarriage

40:04.740 --> 40:07.900
is not to beat up people who have already committed this sin

40:07.900 --> 40:09.900
because you've already committed it. It's in the past.

40:09.900 --> 40:11.900
It's under the blood. Confess it.

40:11.900 --> 40:15.100
Right? It's something to move on from beating yourself up over.

40:15.100 --> 40:19.900
But we want to preach on this so that the next generation does not make the same mistakes.

40:20.300 --> 40:24.220
Okay, let me tell you something. You should not, because you have sinned in the past,

40:24.220 --> 40:29.980
want to water down that sin, lighten that sin, not want to shine a spotlight on that sin,

40:29.980 --> 40:32.860
just so people don't think negatively of you. Because let me tell you something,

40:32.860 --> 40:41.580
divorce ruins people's lives. It ruins families, it ruins children, it often causes generational harm,

40:41.580 --> 40:45.340
and the people asking this question are not asking sincerely.

40:45.900 --> 40:47.900
Notice what the Bible says there in verse 3.

40:48.900 --> 40:53.460
and he answered and said unto them, what did Moses command you?

40:53.460 --> 40:58.260
Now I think Jesus, of course, being very wise and being the word of God, knowing the scripture

40:58.260 --> 41:02.820
really well, I think that he perceived the reason that they were asking this question

41:02.820 --> 41:07.180
is because of what they're going to bring up in the Old Testament here.

41:07.180 --> 41:09.620
And so I think he kind of just gets ahead of the game.

41:09.620 --> 41:12.060
He's just like, okay, well, what did Moses command you?

41:12.060 --> 41:14.100
Like he kind of knows where they're going with this.

41:14.200 --> 41:15.500
Verse number four, they're eager.

41:15.600 --> 41:17.640
They're like, and they said, Moses suffered

41:17.740 --> 41:20.640
to write a bill of divorcement and to put her away.

41:20.740 --> 41:23.080
Notice they're really eager to get to that point

41:23.180 --> 41:25.420
because of the fact of what they're trying to do

41:25.520 --> 41:28.600
is they're trying to pit Jesus against Moses.

41:28.900 --> 41:32.540
They know Jesus is teaching on divorce and remarriage,

41:32.540 --> 41:34.440
and they're not asking sincerely,

41:34.440 --> 41:37.140
and they're trying to pit what Jesus is about to teach

41:37.140 --> 41:38.640
to what Moses said.

41:38.640 --> 41:41.220
Now, really, Jesus makes it clear

41:41.220 --> 41:43.420
that the Pharisees don't even have a good understanding

41:43.420 --> 41:45.680
of what Moses taught anyways.

41:45.680 --> 41:47.060
And that's, of course, always the case

41:47.060 --> 41:50.220
when people want to tell you that the Bible permits

41:50.220 --> 41:54.320
divorce and remarriage, or God permits divorce and remarriage.

41:54.320 --> 41:56.860
Let's go there, if you would, to Deuteronomy.

41:56.900 --> 42:02.900
chapter number 24. So they're saying, hey, Moses suffered to write a bill of

42:02.900 --> 42:07.900
divorcement and to put her away. So what answer do they want from Jesus? They want

42:07.900 --> 42:13.340
Jesus to put his stamp of approval on divorce. Why? Because this is a sin that

42:13.340 --> 42:17.180
is common to man. Because every single person who's ever been married is

42:17.180 --> 42:18.900
married to a sinner.

42:19.000 --> 42:22.200
and is going to have problems in your marriage.

42:22.200 --> 42:24.200
And by the way, don't ever listen to anyone

42:24.200 --> 42:26.200
that tells you that their marriage is perfect,

42:26.200 --> 42:29.000
they never have problems, they never have fights,

42:29.000 --> 42:31.400
we're all married to sinners, okay?

42:31.400 --> 42:34.000
All ladies are crazy from time to time.

42:34.000 --> 42:36.400
And you know what? All men can be jerks from time to time

42:36.400 --> 42:38.000
because we are sinners.

42:38.000 --> 42:40.200
So the problems that you probably have in your marriage

42:40.200 --> 42:44.200
are probably the same problems that are common to everyone else.

42:44.200 --> 42:47.000
Okay? And so these Pharisees, they want a stamp of approval from Jesus.

42:47.000 --> 42:53.280
us on their divorce. Notice verse 1, Deuteronomy 24. Notice this word, it says, when, we're

42:53.280 --> 42:59.280
talking about an acute moment in time here. It says, when a man hath taken a wife and

42:59.280 --> 43:06.920
married her, and it come to pass that she find no favor in his eyes, keep reading, because

43:06.920 --> 43:10.200
he hath found some uncleanness in her.

43:10.400 --> 43:15.520
then let him write her a bill of divorcement and give it in her hand and

43:15.920 --> 43:18.620
Send her out of his house now

43:19.300 --> 43:22.980
One thing I want to point out about this annulment clause,

43:22.980 --> 43:26.500
because this is not, hey, you've been married for seven years,

43:26.500 --> 43:31.540
and you got the seven-year itch, and she no longer is pleasing in your eyes,

43:31.540 --> 43:34.660
or you don't like that he leaves his socks on the floor,

43:34.660 --> 43:37.060
or you don't like he doesn't make enough money,

43:37.060 --> 43:40.580
you don't like she spends too much money, and so you just get divorced.

43:40.580 --> 43:45.060
This is, hey, you took a wife, you go to consummate that marriage

43:45.060 --> 43:47.220
on the wedding night, and behold, you find...

43:47.300 --> 43:53.380
some unclean thing in her. What is that talking about in our modern vernacular like an STD?

43:53.800 --> 43:59.560
Right? And so the situation is you marry someone, maybe she told you she's a virgin,

43:59.560 --> 44:05.240
she tells you that she's clean, you're entering into this life-long marriage where you're supposed

44:05.240 --> 44:11.240
to have and to hold this person only for both for however long you both live, and then you come to

44:11.240 --> 44:15.800
find out like hey she's got an STD, this is something I don't want to deal with, and then

44:15.800 --> 44:20.600
it says let him write her a bill of divorcement and give it in her hand and send her out of his house.

44:21.600 --> 44:24.600
This is not what's happening when Americans are getting divorced today.

44:25.100 --> 44:27.800
Let's just be honest, people getting divorced today,

44:27.800 --> 44:30.200
it's not they went to consummate the marriage

44:30.200 --> 44:32.600
and then realized, oh, there was marital fraud.

44:32.600 --> 44:35.400
Oh, this person was lying to me during the engagement.

44:35.400 --> 44:37.700
We're gonna break this off on the wedding night.

44:37.700 --> 44:40.640
People are getting divorced a year into marriage.

44:40.640 --> 44:44.380
Seven years into marriage, 20 years into marriage.

44:44.380 --> 44:48.820
That is not what this annulment clause in the law is for.

44:48.820 --> 44:49.660
Okay, keep reading.

44:49.660 --> 44:52.620
It says, and when she is departed out of his house,

44:52.620 --> 44:53.100
she may go.

44:53.100 --> 44:55.340
and be another man's wife.

44:55.340 --> 44:59.960
And if the latter husband hate her and write her a bill of divorcement, and giveth it in

44:59.960 --> 45:04.820
her hand, and sendeth her out of his house, or if the latter husband die, which took her

45:04.820 --> 45:06.180
to be his wife.

45:06.180 --> 45:08.380
Her former husband, which sent her away?

45:08.900 --> 45:11.400
may not take her again to be his wife,

45:11.400 --> 45:13.060
after that she is defiled,

45:13.060 --> 45:15.800
for that is abomination before the Lord,

45:15.800 --> 45:18.260
and thou shalt not cause the land to sin,

45:18.260 --> 45:20.800
which the Lord thy God giveth thee for an inheritance."

45:20.800 --> 45:24.440
So if a woman finds herself in a position in life...

45:24.900 --> 45:27.740
whether that's from sin or your spouse died,

45:27.740 --> 45:29.740
well, I guess it would just be sin in this situation.

45:29.740 --> 45:32.200
You can't go back to the first spouse.

45:32.200 --> 45:34.800
That's something that God says is an abomination,

45:34.800 --> 45:36.140
is something that you can't do.

45:36.140 --> 45:38.680
So hey, if you are on your second marriage tonight,

45:38.680 --> 45:40.940
if you're on your third, if you're on your fourth,

45:40.940 --> 45:41.780
if you're on your fifth,

45:41.780 --> 45:44.520
stay with whatever one you have, right?

45:44.520 --> 45:45.860
Don't make it a sixth.

45:45.860 --> 45:47.580
Don't make it a seventh, please.

45:47.580 --> 45:49.420
Stay with whatever spouse you have.

45:49.420 --> 45:50.800
Going back to your first spouse,

45:50.800 --> 45:52.900
at that point, the Bible says no to...

45:52.900 --> 45:58.660
that. But here's the thing about this annulment clause. Go back to Mark. This annulment clause

45:58.660 --> 46:05.140
is not even God's perfect will. This annulment clause is not like, hey, please do this. Hey,

46:05.140 --> 46:10.100
this is a good idea. Because the whole reason that this annulment clause was even allowed,

46:10.100 --> 46:14.020
notice what it says there in verse five, and Jesus answered and said unto them,

46:14.020 --> 46:18.900
For the hardness of your heart, he wrote you this precept.

46:19.000 --> 46:23.400
So notice this isn't like, hey, if you're in this situation, this is the best thing you should do.

46:23.400 --> 46:29.400
This is God's perfect will. He's saying the only reason this tiny annulment clause exists

46:29.400 --> 46:36.680
is because of your hard heart. So technically speaking, what would be the most righteous thing

46:36.680 --> 46:40.440
one could do is to stay with that person that you made a vow to.

46:41.600 --> 46:45.400
Even in that horrible terrible situation, okay

46:45.400 --> 46:52.480
How much more when you went to the wedding night and she didn't have uncleanness and you got married and you've been married for five years

46:52.720 --> 46:59.740
You've been married for ten years. You've had children together. How much more wicked is it to divorce at that point much more?

46:59.740 --> 47:02.560
So it's a terrible terrible thing

47:03.100 --> 47:04.700
Now he says, look, verse 6, he says,

47:04.700 --> 47:06.700
but from the beginning of the creation,

47:06.700 --> 47:08.740
God made them male and female.

47:08.740 --> 47:12.340
He's like, OK, you want to teach divorce out of Deuteronomy

47:12.340 --> 47:15.140
chapter 24, let's go back to Genesis.

47:15.140 --> 47:17.660
Let's go back to God's original plan.

47:17.660 --> 47:22.260
For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother

47:22.260 --> 47:27.460
and cleave to his wife, and they twain shall be one flesh.

47:28.200 --> 47:31.400
So then they are no more twain but one flesh.

47:31.400 --> 47:38.700
The marriage union is the most unique, special human relationship in the world.

47:38.900 --> 47:42.900
where you are becoming one flesh with that person.

47:42.900 --> 47:44.100
And notice it's a man.

47:44.100 --> 47:45.860
Let a man leave his father and mother

47:45.860 --> 47:48.660
and cleave to his wife singular.

47:48.660 --> 47:51.660
Not multiple women, not polygamy.

47:51.660 --> 47:53.900
You say, well, there's men that committed polygamy

47:53.900 --> 47:54.740
in the Bible.

47:54.740 --> 47:56.300
Yeah, what if I told you there's a difference

47:56.300 --> 47:57.700
between what God tells you to do

47:57.700 --> 47:59.300
and what people actually do?

47:59.300 --> 48:00.900
We live in a sinful world

48:00.900 --> 48:03.620
where people disregard what God says,

48:03.620 --> 48:05.340
but that doesn't mean it's right.

48:05.600 --> 48:08.160
And let me tell you something, polygamy is always wrong.

48:08.160 --> 48:08.660
Right.

48:08.660 --> 48:09.920
It's always been wrong.

48:09.920 --> 48:11.760
Divorce is always wrong.

48:11.760 --> 48:13.120
It's always been wrong.

48:13.120 --> 48:13.680
Yep.

48:13.680 --> 48:16.320
And he says there, verse number nine, here's your answer.

48:16.320 --> 48:17.360
Can you put away your wife?

48:17.360 --> 48:18.880
Here's your answer, verse nine.

48:18.880 --> 48:22.160
What therefore God hath joined together, here it is,

48:22.160 --> 48:24.800
let not man put asunder.

48:24.800 --> 48:25.520
Amen.

48:25.520 --> 48:26.800
Can you get divorced?

48:26.800 --> 48:27.920
No.

48:27.920 --> 48:29.680
Divorce is a sin, folks.

48:29.680 --> 48:30.180
Amen.

48:30.200 --> 48:34.200
Now let me help you understand something that our culture just seems not to understand.

48:34.200 --> 48:40.200
Because I feel like a lot of people will say, you know, when things are easy, yeah, don't divorce.

48:40.200 --> 48:43.200
Well, if you guys love each other, don't divorce.

48:43.200 --> 48:46.200
Well, if there's a financial reason to stay together, don't divorce.

48:46.200 --> 48:48.200
Well, it's for the children, don't divorce.

48:48.200 --> 48:52.200
Here's the thing, when you get married, you say this, for better or for worse.

48:52.700 --> 48:54.700
for better or for worse.

48:54.700 --> 48:57.200
You know what? You're going to have some worse in your marriage.

48:57.200 --> 49:00.700
And some people's worse is worser than my worse.

49:00.700 --> 49:01.700
Than your worse.

49:01.700 --> 49:03.700
Right? Some people have some really jacked up marriages.

49:03.700 --> 49:05.200
And look, that's sad.

49:05.400 --> 49:10.840
I'm sorry, right? And we want to help people. We want to get couples in church and make sure you're saved.

49:10.840 --> 49:15.080
Make sure you have the Holy Spirit. Get in church, read the Bible, pray, follow God's commandments.

49:15.080 --> 49:20.240
Look, your marriage is probably not a hopeless lost cause or anything like that, okay?

49:20.340 --> 49:25.880
But regardless of what you feel about your marriage, you are not allowed to get divorced in God's eyes.

49:26.140 --> 49:32.640
It doesn't matter what the US government says. The US law is not the arbiter of right and wrong. God's law is.

49:32.640 --> 49:33.400
But here's what people think.

49:33.400 --> 49:38.680
do. Even pastors today will get up and they'll be like, yeah, yeah, divorce is wrong. And

49:38.680 --> 49:43.480
then they're like, hey, okay, my husband committed adultery. Oh, well then you can divorce. And

49:43.480 --> 49:49.640
it's like, the whole reason people want to get divorced is when bad stuff happens.

49:49.900 --> 49:55.500
So when you tell people don't divorce, what I'm not saying is, hey, don't divorce when everything's perfect,

49:55.500 --> 49:58.300
when everything's wonderful, when you're happy with your marriage.

49:58.300 --> 50:01.400
Because guess what? People don't get divorced when they're happy with their marriage,

50:01.400 --> 50:03.400
and when everything's wonderful and perfect.

50:03.400 --> 50:05.800
People get divorced when things are hard.

50:06.200 --> 50:08.900
People get divorced when there's money problems.

50:08.900 --> 50:12.100
People get divorced when there's adultery.

50:12.100 --> 50:15.540
People get divorced when they have these issues going on,

50:15.540 --> 50:18.000
and I'm here to tell you that you should stick

50:18.000 --> 50:21.500
and stay in your marriage through the hardships.

50:21.500 --> 50:23.340
Now look, this is not me saying,

50:23.340 --> 50:27.980
go adultery, go money problems, go issues in your marriage.

50:27.980 --> 50:31.820
This is me telling you that you made a vow to God.

50:32.400 --> 50:39.400
You may devout to God to have and to hold, keeping yourself only unto this person for better, for worse,

50:39.400 --> 50:43.240
in sickness and in health, in poverty and in wealth.

50:43.240 --> 50:47.040
And you know, it is wicked as hell for pastors to get up today and say,

50:47.040 --> 50:54.080
Hey, I'll sanction your divorce as long as it's for adultery, for abuse or for abandonment.

50:54.080 --> 50:56.640
Guess what? The Bible doesn't teach that.

50:56.900 --> 51:02.100
And you know what? The Bible does teach, for example, the death penalty on adultery.

51:02.100 --> 51:04.500
And you know what? Instead of getting mad at the preacher for saying,

51:04.500 --> 51:07.620
hey, you have to stay with your adulterous spouse,

51:07.620 --> 51:11.380
you should get mad at the U.S. government for not exercising God's law.

51:11.380 --> 51:14.340
Because, you know, we can live in a society today, unfortunately,

51:14.340 --> 51:17.780
where a man's wife can just go commit infinite adultery on him,

51:17.780 --> 51:19.780
and nothing will happen to her.

51:20.500 --> 51:24.500
but you could go steal a box of pencils at Office Depot and you could get locked up.

51:24.500 --> 51:28.420
This is the crazy backwards world that we live in, whereas the Bible says

51:28.420 --> 51:31.780
that if a woman goes out and commits adultery, she should be put to death.

51:31.780 --> 51:35.940
And if a man commits adultery with another man's wife, he should be put to death.

51:35.940 --> 51:38.020
Then you don't have to stay in that terrible marriage.

51:38.020 --> 51:41.140
Your spouse is dead, and once your spouse is dead, you can get remarried.

51:41.400 --> 51:48.400
That's what the Bible teaches. Okay? Abuse. The Bible does not say that you can get divorce for abuse.

51:48.400 --> 51:55.400
And you know what? It is a very slippery slope for preachers to get up and say you can get divorced for abuse

51:55.400 --> 51:59.400
because people just make up abuse to mean whatever the heck they want it to mean.

51:59.900 --> 52:06.700
It's ridiculous today the things that people claim are abusive and look there's problems in marriage

52:06.700 --> 52:09.220
And I'm sure people have some horrific situations

52:09.260 --> 52:15.280
But you know you got guys today men that get slapped by their wives and call the police on their wives

52:15.280 --> 52:19.260
And you know what's gonna happen your wife will be arrested for domestic violence

52:20.300 --> 52:26.380
Because I don't know if you realize this police they have discretion on some things when they get called for domestic violence call

52:26.380 --> 52:30.900
I've had multiple police officers tell me this they say when a domestic violence call happens

52:31.380 --> 52:36.520
Someone is leaving in cuffs may not have used to be that way. That's what I've been told by many cops

52:36.520 --> 52:41.360
I don't know if that's necessarily true in all cases. That's what I've been told someone's going away in cuffs

52:41.360 --> 52:44.140
You know you shouldn't play around with calling the cops on your spouse

52:45.100 --> 52:47.900
And you know what? I've seen this going around on social media.

52:47.900 --> 52:50.000
It's interesting that we're in this chapter tonight.

52:50.000 --> 52:52.800
But people talk about like, oh, what if your spouse slaps you?

52:52.800 --> 52:55.500
Now look, let me say something. Don't slap your spouse.

52:55.500 --> 52:59.000
Let me say something very clearly. I've never slapped my spouse, okay?

52:59.000 --> 53:01.500
But let me tell you something. If your spouse slaps you,

53:01.500 --> 53:03.700
you should not call the police on them.

53:03.700 --> 53:07.100
It would be wicked as hell to call the police on your spouse

53:07.100 --> 53:09.100
because that's your spouse!

53:09.600 --> 53:15.600
And you know what's funny? Jesus says, hey, if someone smites you on the one cheek, turn to him the other.

53:15.600 --> 53:18.600
Why does no one actually believe that verse?

53:18.600 --> 53:23.600
Oh, if your husband slaps you, you need to call the police on him. That's garbage.

53:24.200 --> 53:28.520
And you know, let's be honest, why are, let's just look out in the world, right?

53:28.520 --> 53:31.560
Because I believe that our marriages are way better than the world's.

53:31.560 --> 53:35.640
Especially in a church like this, in a hard preaching church, the new IV church, I believe

53:35.640 --> 53:39.900
our marriages are so much better than the marriages in this world.

53:39.900 --> 53:42.080
But you think about the ghetto places in this world.

53:42.600 --> 53:46.200
the terrible marriages that exist, people that don't have Christ,

53:46.200 --> 53:50.840
people where the husband's on drugs and alcohol, the wife's on drugs and alcohol.

53:50.840 --> 53:53.880
You know, the reason that people are probably slapping each other down is because serious

53:53.880 --> 53:59.640
bad stuff is going on, right? And like, let's just say that a man catches his wife committing

53:59.640 --> 54:03.320
adultery and slaps her across the face. It's like, well, first of all, the Bible says she

54:03.320 --> 54:04.200
should have been put to death.

54:04.800 --> 54:10.840
Okay, so let's just start there. She should be getting the death penalty her husband slaps her guess what still don't call the cops

54:11.560 --> 54:16.320
That's wrong. Okay, and men do not call the cops on your wives. Good night

54:16.840 --> 54:22.080
Be a man you can't you can't defend yourself against a little girl a woman. What are you talking about?

54:22.760 --> 54:27.460
It's ridiculous today folks. Look if you cannot restrain your wife in a fight

54:27.900 --> 54:31.200
You just need to start doing 100 push-ups a day, every day.

54:31.200 --> 54:33.800
It's just like, you know, you got the chart for your Bible reading,

54:33.800 --> 54:36.200
you need a chart for push-ups, you need a chart for squats,

54:36.200 --> 54:38.600
like you need to do something different in your life

54:38.600 --> 54:40.800
if you could get beat up by your wife.

54:40.800 --> 54:45.200
Any guy that calls the cops on his wife is a beta, alright?

54:45.200 --> 54:46.900
Terrible to think about.

54:47.300 --> 54:49.300
But you know what? Jesus gave us the answer.

54:49.300 --> 54:52.660
What therefore God have joined together, let not man put us under.

54:52.660 --> 54:55.540
Look, if you come to me and you tell me that you're going to divorce your spouse,

54:55.540 --> 55:00.660
I will never approve of that ever. If you come and tell me, hey, my husband committed adultery,

55:00.660 --> 55:03.220
look, my heart's going to break for that and I'm going to do my best to help you,

55:03.220 --> 55:08.100
but I will never tell you to divorce for any reason whatsoever,

55:08.100 --> 55:10.740
because the Bible never gives a reason to divorce.

55:11.400 --> 55:16.360
Let me make it even more clear that I will never perform a marriage for someone who is

55:16.360 --> 55:18.440
divorced and getting remarried.

55:18.440 --> 55:21.200
That is not allowed in the Bible and we'll go there in a little bit, but look at verse

55:21.200 --> 55:22.200
10.

55:22.200 --> 55:26.680
It says, and in the house his disciples asked him again of the same matter.

55:26.680 --> 55:33.080
And he saith unto them, Whosoever shall put away his wife, notice, and marry another,

55:33.080 --> 55:35.580
committed adultery against her.

55:36.100 --> 55:42.020
And if a woman shall put away her husband and be married to another, she committeth adultery."

55:42.020 --> 55:46.020
So, regardless of the party who initiates the divorce, doesn't matter if it's husband or wife,

55:46.580 --> 55:50.740
if a person divorces their spouse and gets married to someone else,

55:50.740 --> 55:56.980
the Bible says that that is adultery. Now, I do not believe that this is perpetual adultery.

55:57.500 --> 56:00.700
Some people would be like, oh, you know, we shouldn't allow people who have been

56:00.700 --> 56:04.780
divorced or remarried into church because they're adulterers. I believe this is a one-time act of

56:04.780 --> 56:10.300
adultery. Similar to polygamy, when you're taking that second wife, I believe that's a one-time act

56:10.300 --> 56:16.220
of adultery. You shouldn't do it. It's bad. It's wrong. Do not get divorced and remarried.

56:16.220 --> 56:22.540
And let me prove this elsewhere from the Bible. Go to 1 Corinthians 7, 1 Corinthians chapter number 7.

56:25.900 --> 56:32.860
Paul's addressing a church has a lot of issues in first Corinthians and he talks about this in chapter number seven look at verse number ten

56:34.140 --> 56:39.980
And unto the married I command yet. Not I but the Lord is God's word right here

56:40.700 --> 56:46.380
Let not the wife depart from her husband. All right, so before he even talks about other situations

56:46.380 --> 56:49.440
He's like, let me say this first. God says don't divorce at all

56:49.900 --> 56:54.180
Don't depart from your husband at all by the way don't separate from your husband either

56:54.560 --> 57:01.400
It doesn't even say divorce here. It says don't depart don't depart from your spouse because separation is just the road to divorce

57:01.840 --> 57:05.080
Do not separate from your spouse work through your problems

57:05.520 --> 57:12.500
Okay, it says let not the wife depart from her husband, but and if she depart let her remain

57:13.400 --> 57:14.200
unmarried

57:14.300 --> 57:17.000
or be reconciled to her husband,

57:17.000 --> 57:19.840
and let not the husband put away his wife.

57:19.840 --> 57:20.880
This is how the Bible works.

57:20.880 --> 57:22.500
This is how life works.

57:22.500 --> 57:24.380
There is God's commandments.

57:24.380 --> 57:25.220
What is that?

57:25.220 --> 57:27.040
That is what God expects us to do.

57:27.040 --> 57:28.380
That is what's right.

57:28.380 --> 57:29.980
That is what we preach.

57:29.980 --> 57:31.320
That's what we should preach.

57:31.320 --> 57:33.880
But there is also the reality of knowing

57:33.880 --> 57:36.520
that people are sinful, people are selfish,

57:36.520 --> 57:40.100
people are gonna be wicked and disregard God's word.

57:40.400 --> 57:42.440
And you say, hey, don't divorce your spouse.

57:42.440 --> 57:44.360
Don't separate from your spouse.

57:44.360 --> 57:47.280
But if you do, here are your options.

57:47.280 --> 57:50.700
Number one is to remain unmarried.

57:51.100 --> 57:55.100
Now I don't know about you, this is a great enough reason to never want to divorce.

57:55.100 --> 57:57.100
Right? Because you know why people get married?

57:57.100 --> 57:59.100
It says to avoid fornication.

57:59.100 --> 58:01.100
Let every man have his own wife.

58:01.100 --> 58:02.100
Let every wife have her own husband.

58:02.100 --> 58:05.100
So it's like, okay buddy, you want to divorce your wife,

58:05.100 --> 58:10.100
well then you are signing up to not have the physical relationship for the rest of your life.

58:10.100 --> 58:12.100
Are you okay with that?

58:12.100 --> 58:14.100
And if people were honest, they'd be like, no.

58:14.100 --> 58:16.100
Right? But that's what the Bible says.

58:16.100 --> 58:18.100
Hey, if you divorce your husband, ladies,

58:18.800 --> 58:22.240
Man, if you divorce your wife, you have to remain unmarried for the rest of your life.

58:22.240 --> 58:23.960
That's option number one.

58:23.960 --> 58:24.960
What's option number two?

58:24.960 --> 58:28.800
It says, or let her, what verse we in, 11?

58:28.800 --> 58:35.160
It says, or be reconciled to her husband and let not the husband put away his wife.

58:35.160 --> 58:38.320
So here's your other option is to reconcile with your spouse.

58:39.200 --> 58:43.600
Now, obviously, we already read in Deuteronomy, this is not talking about if you've already been remarried.

58:43.600 --> 58:46.400
That was wrong. That was a one-time act of adultery.

58:46.400 --> 58:49.800
But you shouldn't now break your second marriage to go back to the spouse.

58:49.800 --> 58:52.600
Stay with the spouse that you're with now, okay?

58:52.600 --> 58:55.100
But if you got divorced, here are your options.

58:55.100 --> 58:58.500
Stay unmarried or reconcile to your spouse.

58:58.500 --> 59:02.500
Man, people who are divorced today, if you've not yet been remarried,

59:02.500 --> 59:07.200
I cannot stress enough how good for you it would be just to reconcile with your spouse.

59:07.200 --> 59:12.700
And look, it is not too late, if you've been divorced and you've not been remarried, it

59:12.700 --> 59:17.000
is not too late to reconcile with your spouse.

59:17.000 --> 59:21.300
You can work on your problems, you can work on your issues, but I'm telling you, I wish

59:21.300 --> 59:24.700
people who get divorced would just reconcile with their spouse.

59:24.700 --> 59:27.260
Because here's the thing, why do people get divorced?

59:27.260 --> 59:30.740
Jesus said, because of the hardness of their heart.

59:30.740 --> 59:31.820
But let me tell you something.

59:31.820 --> 59:34.220
An old age comes knocking on your door.

59:34.800 --> 59:39.000
When you're single and alone and you're entering old age

59:39.000 --> 59:42.800
and you're starting to see, hey, I'm facing this alone,

59:42.800 --> 59:45.000
that might soften your heart a little bit.

59:45.000 --> 59:46.600
And you know what would be better is to wait,

59:46.600 --> 59:48.300
not wait until you get to that point,

59:48.300 --> 59:51.300
just reconcile with your spouse now.

59:51.300 --> 59:53.400
Because let me tell you what, people who get divorced,

59:53.400 --> 59:56.000
they have way more financial issues on average.

59:56.000 --> 59:57.700
You look at the earning,

59:57.700 --> 59:59.900
the average earnings of people who are married,

59:59.900 --> 01:00:01.600
people who are married earn more money.

01:00:02.000 --> 01:00:04.700
People who get divorced, they have way more money issues.

01:00:04.700 --> 01:00:08.540
Okay? Old age is like a living hell in and of itself,

01:00:08.540 --> 01:00:10.540
but imagine doing all of that alone.

01:00:10.540 --> 01:00:14.940
Look, it's just better to reconcile with your spouse if you can.

01:00:14.940 --> 01:00:18.040
Now, also look at verse number 39 of this same chapter.

01:00:18.040 --> 01:00:18.940
Notice it says,

01:00:24.900 --> 01:00:32.340
But if her husband be dead, she is at liberty to be married to whom she will only in the

01:00:32.340 --> 01:00:33.340
Lord.

01:00:33.340 --> 01:00:38.900
When is the only time that it is acceptable, according to God's word, to get remarried?

01:00:38.900 --> 01:00:41.140
It is when your spouse dies.

01:00:41.140 --> 01:00:42.140
Right?

01:00:42.140 --> 01:00:43.540
Because marriage is not eternal.

01:00:43.540 --> 01:00:44.540
Okay?

01:00:44.540 --> 01:00:45.540
We're not Mormons here.

01:00:45.540 --> 01:00:47.280
You're not going to be married in heaven.

01:00:47.280 --> 01:00:49.620
You're not going to be making spirit babies in heaven.

01:00:49.620 --> 01:00:51.380
It is till death do us part.

01:00:51.800 --> 01:00:59.200
Okay, so marriage is for right here and now in this world and the only time you can get remarried is when your spouse dies

01:00:59.920 --> 01:01:01.920
Okay, so look don't depart

01:01:02.120 --> 01:01:07.780
But if you depart prepare to stay unmarried it for the rest of your life or for the rest of their life until they die

01:01:08.600 --> 01:01:14.000
Now look, this is not talking about people who are married young and then their spouse

01:01:14.000 --> 01:01:15.000
dies.

01:01:15.000 --> 01:01:16.000
The Bible just says, hey, remarry.

01:01:16.000 --> 01:01:18.920
If you're under 60 years old, God wants you to remarry.

01:01:18.920 --> 01:01:20.080
That's a good thing to do.

01:01:20.080 --> 01:01:24.520
But remarriage, when you've divorced, is something God does not want you to do at all.

01:01:24.520 --> 01:01:26.840
Go back to Mark chapter number 10.

01:01:26.840 --> 01:01:27.680
Mark chapter number 10.

01:01:28.100 --> 01:01:32.020
So keep in mind throughout this chapter that what's going on is it's the road to Jerusalem.

01:01:32.020 --> 01:01:37.220
So so far we've had the Pharisees. Now we're going to have a new crowd here. It says in verse 13.

01:01:37.220 --> 01:01:42.020
And they brought young children to him that he should touch them and his disciples rebuked

01:01:42.020 --> 01:01:48.900
those that brought them. But when Jesus saw it, he was much displeased and said unto them,

01:01:48.900 --> 01:01:53.620
suffer the little children to come unto me and forbid them not for of such is the kingdom of God.

01:01:54.100 --> 01:02:00.380
Verily, I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child,

01:02:00.380 --> 01:02:01.860
he shall not enter therein.

01:02:01.860 --> 01:02:06.420
And he took them up in his arms, put his hands upon them, and blessed him."

01:02:06.420 --> 01:02:09.820
So notice that there are people who brought young children to Jesus Christ.

01:02:10.200 --> 01:02:14.680
And for some reason, the disciples had a bad attitude towards this in Mark chapter nine.

01:02:14.680 --> 01:02:17.640
And in this chapter, there's just several things the disciples do.

01:02:17.640 --> 01:02:21.320
It's just face palm, you know, having a bad attitude, not having faith.

01:02:21.320 --> 01:02:23.000
Like they're definitely sinful men, right?

01:02:23.000 --> 01:02:25.640
The focus is on Jesus, the sinless one.

01:02:25.640 --> 01:02:28.520
But, you know, people are bringing these young children to Jesus

01:02:28.520 --> 01:02:30.920
and they rebuke people for doing this.

01:02:30.920 --> 01:02:33.400
And Jesus is much displeased.

01:02:34.100 --> 01:02:37.460
So Jesus really cares about the little children.

01:02:37.460 --> 01:02:41.220
Jesus really wants us to minister unto the little children.

01:02:41.220 --> 01:02:45.500
And let me tell you this, I think this is a great reminder for us that the gospel of

01:02:45.500 --> 01:02:48.720
Jesus Christ is simple.

01:02:48.720 --> 01:02:53.340
If you're preaching a gospel that a child cannot understand, you're preaching a false

01:02:53.340 --> 01:02:53.780
gospel.

01:02:54.600 --> 01:02:59.640
If you're preaching a gospel that a child cannot understand, you're doing something wrong.

01:02:59.640 --> 01:03:04.200
Because he actually points at a child and says, hey, to even enter into the kingdom of God,

01:03:04.200 --> 01:03:08.920
you've got to become like this child right here. Right? So when we're out soul winning,

01:03:08.920 --> 01:03:15.240
do not over complicate the gospel and do not give this weird idea that people have to understand

01:03:15.240 --> 01:03:21.080
everything about the Bible to get saved. Do not hold off preaching the gospel to your children,

01:03:21.080 --> 01:03:21.900
parents.

01:03:22.100 --> 01:03:23.820
because of this idea where you're like,

01:03:23.820 --> 01:03:26.780
well, I just don't know if they understand everything.

01:03:26.780 --> 01:03:28.740
They're not gonna understand everything.

01:03:28.740 --> 01:03:30.700
But can they understand that Jesus Christ

01:03:30.700 --> 01:03:32.340
died on the cross for our sins,

01:03:32.340 --> 01:03:34.460
that he was buried and he came back to life

01:03:34.460 --> 01:03:36.140
to pay the punishment for our sin,

01:03:36.140 --> 01:03:39.460
and that all we have to do is trust him to be saved?

01:03:39.460 --> 01:03:41.260
Yes, a child can understand that.

01:03:41.260 --> 01:03:42.080
Because you know what?

01:03:42.080 --> 01:03:44.060
Children are the embodiment of people

01:03:44.060 --> 01:03:46.660
who are needy, dependent, and trusting.

01:03:46.660 --> 01:03:46.900
you

01:03:47.000 --> 01:03:52.760
Because you know what, my kids, they turn on the shower and they'll have a bath for two hours long

01:03:52.760 --> 01:03:58.520
and they're enjoying the free water and they open up the pantry and there's just all this food and

01:03:58.520 --> 01:04:02.120
they're just enjoying it. They don't care if they leave the sprinkler on for 10 hours. They're not

01:04:02.120 --> 01:04:06.680
worried about the water bill. They're not thinking about, man, this is one of the hottest Oklahoma

01:04:06.680 --> 01:04:11.400
summers in history. We should really be careful about the A.C. They're not thinking about where's

01:04:11.400 --> 01:04:15.000
the next meal coming from. How's the mortgage going to get paid? They just

01:04:15.000 --> 01:04:18.040
They just trust their dad to pay the bills.

01:04:18.040 --> 01:04:20.360
They just trust their dad to provide for them.

01:04:20.360 --> 01:04:22.760
They just trust dad to protect them.

01:04:22.760 --> 01:04:25.800
Well guess what, that's what salvation is.

01:04:25.800 --> 01:04:29.440
Salvation is nothing good have I whereby thy grace to claim.

01:04:29.440 --> 01:04:31.040
It's nothing but the blood of Jesus.

01:04:31.040 --> 01:04:33.680
Grace, grace, wonderful grace.

01:04:33.680 --> 01:04:35.780
Grace that's greater than all of our sin.

01:04:35.780 --> 01:04:37.240
That's salvation.

01:04:37.240 --> 01:04:39.000
Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ.

01:04:40.200 --> 01:04:45.480
So again, I also want to say this. I don't think necessarily this is talking about baptism, but also with baptism

01:04:45.480 --> 01:04:49.960
I've noticed some people like they don't want to preach their kids the gospel because they're like man

01:04:49.960 --> 01:04:51.960
I don't know if my kids are going to understand everything

01:04:51.960 --> 01:04:55.800
Then their kids get to an age where they could understand the gospel they get same like well

01:04:55.800 --> 01:05:01.020
I don't want them to get baptized if they don't understand everything if your child is saved. They should get baptized

01:05:01.800 --> 01:05:05.800
Because when people in the Bible get saved, they get baptized the same day.

01:05:05.800 --> 01:05:07.300
Babes in Christ.

01:05:07.300 --> 01:05:10.800
Do you think that they understand perfectly all the pictures of baptism

01:05:10.800 --> 01:05:13.300
and all the Old Testament pictures of baptism?

01:05:13.300 --> 01:05:15.800
You know what baptism is? It's obeying Christ.

01:05:15.800 --> 01:05:18.800
And it's like, man, I want my kid to learn more

01:05:18.800 --> 01:05:21.800
and be more filled with the Spirit so they can be baptized.

01:05:21.800 --> 01:05:23.800
Baptism is the first step.

01:05:24.400 --> 01:05:29.360
If you want your child to grow in grace and in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ,

01:05:29.360 --> 01:05:34.000
baptism is the first thing you should do. And look, I don't believe in this idea of,

01:05:34.000 --> 01:05:38.000
hey, I'm going to get my kids saved. All right, they got saved. And I believe kids can get saved

01:05:38.000 --> 01:05:42.160
at a young age. All right, I got them saved. Let's say they got saved at six years old.

01:05:42.160 --> 01:05:46.320
I will baptize them when they're eight. So you want your child to be in sin for two years and

01:05:46.320 --> 01:05:50.000
disobedience to Christ because the command is to be baptized.

01:05:50.700 --> 01:05:56.200
Any believer who has not been scripturally baptized is in disobedience to Christ.

01:05:56.200 --> 01:06:00.900
Now look, I don't think it's this kid's fault because his parents are just being weak, being lame.

01:06:00.900 --> 01:06:04.100
But you know what? That child should be baptized.

01:06:04.100 --> 01:06:06.800
Don't have this idea they have to understand everything perfectly.

01:06:06.800 --> 01:06:11.900
Jesus says, hey, whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child,

01:06:11.900 --> 01:06:13.500
he shall not enter therein.

01:06:13.800 --> 01:06:17.000
And you know some people will like scoff at soul winning for kids.

01:06:17.000 --> 01:06:20.360
We'll like, hey we go to the ghetto, hey we got like five kids saved.

01:06:20.360 --> 01:06:24.360
And people will be like, oh where are the adults? How many adults did you get saved?

01:06:24.360 --> 01:06:25.720
And it's like, hey a soul is a soul.

01:06:26.360 --> 01:06:29.160
And if an adult wants to get saved he's going to have to become like a child.

01:06:29.800 --> 01:06:30.760
Is what the Bible teaches.

01:06:32.040 --> 01:06:34.600
Then we get the next encounter on the road to Jerusalem here.

01:06:35.800 --> 01:06:39.080
Says in verse 17, and when he was gone forth into the way.

01:06:39.600 --> 01:06:43.120
there came one running and kneeled to him and asked him,

01:06:43.120 --> 01:06:48.480
Good master, what shall I do that I may inherit eternal life?

01:06:48.480 --> 01:06:52.320
And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good?

01:06:52.320 --> 01:06:55.520
There is none good but one that is God."

01:06:55.520 --> 01:07:00.720
Now, Jesus kind of answers him in a very unique, kind of cryptic way.

01:07:00.720 --> 01:07:05.280
And the reason I think Jesus does this is because Jesus is a master soul winner.

01:07:06.000 --> 01:07:08.000
Of course, he's the best soul winner.

01:07:08.000 --> 01:07:10.500
And when you've been soul winning for a long time,

01:07:10.500 --> 01:07:11.760
you can read people.

01:07:11.760 --> 01:07:14.500
You get discernment and you can read people.

01:07:14.500 --> 01:07:15.600
We're gonna keep reading the story

01:07:15.600 --> 01:07:17.600
and we're gonna see that this is a rich man.

01:07:17.800 --> 01:07:23.000
He has great possessions. Now, probably what happened is that you could probably tell he's

01:07:23.000 --> 01:07:27.960
rich just by his appearance. Some people you could tell they're rich just by their appearance,

01:07:27.960 --> 01:07:32.280
by the car that they drive, by the clothes that they wear, by the house that they live in,

01:07:32.280 --> 01:07:36.040
the business that they have or something like that. You know, perhaps, I don't know this for

01:07:36.040 --> 01:07:40.600
sure, but perhaps he was dressed in a certain way that Jesus could look at this man and say,

01:07:40.600 --> 01:07:45.160
oh, oh, this is a rich person. Now, let me tell you, what's not happening in this story is that

01:07:45.160 --> 01:07:45.800
that Jesus is.

01:07:45.800 --> 01:07:51.280
not reading minds. Jesus was a human being on this earth. He's a hundred percent God,

01:07:51.280 --> 01:07:57.160
a hundred percent man, but when he was on this earth, he was living the human experience.

01:07:57.700 --> 01:07:59.700
He did not have superpowers.

01:07:59.700 --> 01:08:03.200
All the miracles that he did, he did by the power of the Holy Spirit.

01:08:03.200 --> 01:08:05.700
So it's not like he saw this guy and read his mind, okay?

01:08:05.700 --> 01:08:08.700
I believe there must have been something about this guy that tipped Jesus off.

01:08:08.700 --> 01:08:10.700
Oh, this is a rich person.

01:08:10.700 --> 01:08:13.700
Now if you're a discerning soul winner, if you're an experienced soul winner,

01:08:13.700 --> 01:08:17.700
you're going to know something about rich people, is that they're prideful.

01:08:18.400 --> 01:08:24.160
that they think they're good and that they think they can earn their way to heaven so right away

01:08:24.480 --> 01:08:29.080
Jesus just turns it back on this guy. He's at oh good master. What should I do inherit life?

01:08:29.080 --> 01:08:33.920
And he's like why are you calling me good? There's none good, but one that is God. What is he telling him?

01:08:33.920 --> 01:08:35.800
He's saying hey, you're not good

01:08:36.100 --> 01:08:41.500
You're a sinner. That's point one of the gospel for all have sinned and come short of the glory of God

01:08:41.500 --> 01:08:45.180
He say hey, you're not good now. Some people would go here to say

01:08:45.180 --> 01:08:51.220
Oh, this is proof that Jesus isn't God that is the most stupid take of this verse. I've ever heard in my life

01:08:51.780 --> 01:08:54.060
Let me ask you this is Jesus good

01:08:54.700 --> 01:08:56.600
Yes, well, then he's God

01:08:56.900 --> 01:09:01.340
Because he said, hey, there's none good but one that is God.

01:09:01.340 --> 01:09:05.500
He's saying, hey, rich guy, you're not good, but I am.

01:09:05.500 --> 01:09:07.340
I'm the one you need to trust in.

01:09:07.340 --> 01:09:09.340
I'm the one you need to believe on.

01:09:09.340 --> 01:09:12.260
And stop trusting in yourself.

01:09:12.260 --> 01:09:13.700
OK, notice it says.

01:09:14.200 --> 01:09:16.360
He's answering the question now. Remember the question is,

01:09:16.360 --> 01:09:19.160
what shall I do that I may inherit eternal life?

01:09:19.160 --> 01:09:22.200
The answer in verse 19, he says, thou knowest the commandments,

01:09:22.200 --> 01:09:26.040
do not commit adultery, do not kill, do not steal, do not bear false witness,

01:09:26.040 --> 01:09:31.480
defraud not, honor thy father and mother. Now, Jesus is not teaching.

01:09:32.000 --> 01:09:34.080
that you have to keep the commandments to be saved.

01:09:34.080 --> 01:09:37.920
Okay, he's not going to contradict the rest of the Gospels, contradict everything in the

01:09:37.920 --> 01:09:42.560
New Testament. What he's trying to do is he's trying to kind of in a roundabout way reveal

01:09:42.560 --> 01:09:50.400
to this guy that he's not perfect, that he is a sinner. Okay, also verse number 20 says this,

01:09:50.400 --> 01:09:56.000
And he answered and said unto him, Master, all these have I observed from my youth.

01:09:56.500 --> 01:09:59.700
So again, was Jesus' assumption about this guy correct?

01:09:59.700 --> 01:10:00.500
Yes.

01:10:00.500 --> 01:10:02.000
Oh, here comes this rich guy.

01:10:02.000 --> 01:10:04.200
I bet you this guy thinks he's really good.

01:10:04.200 --> 01:10:06.900
I bet you this guy thinks that he's just perfect.

01:10:06.900 --> 01:10:08.400
I bet you this guy's really prideful.

01:10:08.400 --> 01:10:09.500
Hey, why are you calling me good?

01:10:09.500 --> 01:10:11.200
There's none good but one, that's God.

01:10:11.200 --> 01:10:12.300
Oh, you know the commandments, right?

01:10:12.300 --> 01:10:13.000
You've read the Bible.

01:10:13.000 --> 01:10:14.300
I'm sure you've read the Bible.

01:10:14.300 --> 01:10:15.500
You know all the commandments.

01:10:15.500 --> 01:10:19.000
Oh, yeah, I've done all of those for my youth up.

01:10:19.000 --> 01:10:21.000
Now, I don't believe this guy.

01:10:21.500 --> 01:10:23.340
I think he's a liar.

01:10:23.340 --> 01:10:24.180
And you know what?

01:10:24.180 --> 01:10:26.580
Prideful people are often the most wicked people.

01:10:26.580 --> 01:10:28.420
They're just blinded to it.

01:10:28.420 --> 01:10:30.620
That's the thing about pride that is scary,

01:10:30.620 --> 01:10:33.620
is that pride is the most blinding sin that exists.

01:10:33.620 --> 01:10:36.720
And it's like everyone else can see it but you.

01:10:36.720 --> 01:10:39.520
Everyone else can see it but this rich guy.

01:10:39.520 --> 01:10:41.520
And of course, Jesus can see it.

01:10:41.520 --> 01:10:43.800
Now, go view it to James chapter number two.

01:10:44.400 --> 01:10:51.840
James chapter 2 all these things have I kept for my youth up. That's garbage you've sinned you've messed up

01:10:52.300 --> 01:10:56.300
And I'm sure some rich people or some people trusting in their works, they think of themselves,

01:10:56.300 --> 01:11:00.300
well, maybe they don't go as far as this guy. Maybe they say, yeah, I've sinned,

01:11:00.300 --> 01:11:06.140
but I haven't killed anyone. I mean, I've never committed adultery with another person. I mean,

01:11:06.140 --> 01:11:09.740
I've never done something like that. Right. Okay. Look at verse 10. It says,

01:11:09.740 --> 01:11:17.740
for whosoever shall keep the whole law and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.

01:11:18.800 --> 01:11:22.000
For he that said, Do not commit adultery, said also, Do not kill.

01:11:22.800 --> 01:11:28.480
Now, thou commit no adultery, yet if thou kill thou art become a transgressor of the law.

01:11:28.480 --> 01:11:35.120
Here's the thing, go to Romans 4. Technically speaking, if you have never sinned and if you

01:11:35.120 --> 01:11:40.320
have kept God's commandments perfectly from the time you entered this world to the time you leave

01:11:40.320 --> 01:11:42.160
it, you would not go to hell, you'd be saved.

01:11:42.600 --> 01:11:48.360
You'd go to heaven if you kept the commandments perfectly because guess what? It's the wages of sin that is death, right?

01:11:48.360 --> 01:11:53.760
The reason that we deserve hell is because we've sinned and I've got bad news for you

01:11:53.760 --> 01:11:59.260
If you've ever committed one sin your hope of getting there on your own righteousness is already done

01:12:00.200 --> 01:12:03.200
Right? So it's like, oh man, I just want to be a good person.

01:12:03.200 --> 01:12:07.200
I want to repent of my sins, do my best to just strive to keep God's commandments.

01:12:07.200 --> 01:12:10.200
And hopefully my good will outweigh my bad.

01:12:10.200 --> 01:12:13.200
Your bad will always outweigh your good.

01:12:13.200 --> 01:12:16.200
If you stop sinning today and was perfect for the rest of your life,

01:12:16.200 --> 01:12:20.200
the sins you've already committed, they've got to be paid for by someone.

01:12:20.200 --> 01:12:24.200
And if you decide to trust in yourself, you'll pay for it in hell for all of eternity.

01:12:24.800 --> 01:12:27.600
Here's the answer. Notice Romans 4 verse 1.

01:12:27.600 --> 01:12:31.920
What shall we say then that Abraham our father as pertaining to the flesh hath found?

01:12:31.920 --> 01:12:38.560
For if Abraham were justified by works, he hath whereof to glory, but not before God.

01:12:38.560 --> 01:12:42.320
What is this rich young ruler doing? He's glorying in his works.

01:12:42.880 --> 01:12:45.520
All these things have I kept from my youth up.

01:12:45.520 --> 01:12:47.760
Well, why don't we just get down on our knees and worship you?

01:12:48.800 --> 01:12:51.600
You must be the Messiah. You must be God in the flesh.

01:12:51.600 --> 01:12:53.300
No, obviously not.

01:12:53.300 --> 01:12:56.200
Right? If Abraham didn't have whereof to glory of his works,

01:12:56.200 --> 01:13:00.000
I'm pretty sure this rich bozo doesn't either.

01:13:00.000 --> 01:13:02.000
Notice verse 3. This is a good question.

01:13:02.000 --> 01:13:03.500
For what sayeth the scripture?

01:13:03.500 --> 01:13:05.500
It's always the best question.

01:13:05.500 --> 01:13:08.300
Abraham believed God,

01:13:08.300 --> 01:13:11.300
and it was counted unto him for righteousness.

01:13:11.500 --> 01:13:14.340
To go to heaven, you've got to be righteous.

01:13:14.340 --> 01:13:17.840
But here's the thing, you need Christ's righteousness.

01:13:17.840 --> 01:13:21.140
And Jesus Christ paid for the sins of the whole world.

01:13:21.140 --> 01:13:22.640
Every single person in this world

01:13:22.640 --> 01:13:25.100
has had their sins paid for.

01:13:25.100 --> 01:13:28.680
The question is, has it been applied to your account?

01:13:28.680 --> 01:13:32.480
Hey, I have bought the tickets for the Orr Family Farm.

01:13:32.900 --> 01:13:36.740
But you know what? It's going to be given to you when you show up at the event, right?

01:13:36.740 --> 01:13:41.060
Well, it's like, how do we get this payment of Jesus Christ dying on the cross for our sins?

01:13:41.060 --> 01:13:44.420
How do we get this payment applied to our account? We believe.

01:13:45.100 --> 01:13:47.140
And believe means trust.

01:13:47.140 --> 01:13:48.980
Believe does not mean works.

01:13:48.980 --> 01:13:50.140
This is so frustrating.

01:13:50.140 --> 01:13:51.980
The Bible's saying, hey, it's not of works.

01:13:51.980 --> 01:13:54.620
If it were of works, you would get to glory.

01:13:54.620 --> 01:13:55.620
It's actually believe.

01:13:55.620 --> 01:13:57.060
And people are like, yeah, yeah, it's believe.

01:13:57.060 --> 01:13:57.920
Yeah, it's faith.

01:13:57.920 --> 01:13:59.220
And faith means works.

01:13:59.220 --> 01:14:00.700
It's like, what are you talking about?

01:14:00.700 --> 01:14:02.660
We just got done saying it's not works.

01:14:02.660 --> 01:14:04.760
You would get to glory if it was your works.

01:14:04.760 --> 01:14:07.100
Now you're telling me that faith means works?

01:14:07.100 --> 01:14:07.840
Well, guess what?

01:14:07.840 --> 01:14:09.300
This chapter demolishes that.

01:14:09.800 --> 01:14:13.960
Because notice he says now to him that worketh is the reward not reckoned of grace

01:14:14.440 --> 01:14:18.520
But of debt if you could work your way to heaven then god would owe you a debt

01:14:19.160 --> 01:14:24.760
But god doesn't owe us a debt. We owe him a debt. He's given us grace something. We don't deserve

01:14:25.240 --> 01:14:27.800
Notice but to him that worketh not

01:14:28.440 --> 01:14:31.400
But believeth notice that works cannot be belief

01:14:31.880 --> 01:14:37.000
Works is not faith works is not trust because there's a person who doesn't work, but they believe

01:14:37.500 --> 01:14:42.300
It says, but to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly,

01:14:42.300 --> 01:14:45.400
his faith is counted for righteousness.

01:14:45.400 --> 01:14:46.400
There it is.

01:14:46.400 --> 01:14:47.400
There's that accounting term.

01:14:47.400 --> 01:14:49.400
How do you get that payment onto your account?

01:14:49.400 --> 01:14:54.100
Well, it's counted to you for righteousness when you believe.

01:14:54.100 --> 01:14:57.020
That's what this rich young man is missing.

01:14:57.020 --> 01:14:59.020
Now he had a very foolish answer here.

01:14:59.020 --> 01:15:00.380
Go back to Mark chapter number 10.

01:15:01.000 --> 01:15:05.880
It says in verse number 21, it says, then Jesus beholding him loved him. That's always the right

01:15:05.880 --> 01:15:10.600
response, right? Because of the fact that the Bible talks about in meekness instructing those that

01:15:10.600 --> 01:15:15.480
what? Oppose themselves, right? And you got to realize like, man, people who are unsaved,

01:15:15.480 --> 01:15:22.600
they are their own worst enemy. It's so sad to think about like, here's a free gift. It's called

01:15:22.600 --> 01:15:26.920
eternal life. It's been paid for by Jesus Christ. There's nothing you have to do.

01:15:27.400 --> 01:15:29.000
except put your faith in Him.

01:15:29.000 --> 01:15:30.800
Do you want this gift? No.

01:15:30.800 --> 01:15:32.800
It's just like, there's nothing more sad than that.

01:15:32.800 --> 01:15:35.500
There's nothing more tragic

01:15:35.500 --> 01:15:38.200
than someone rejecting the gospel of Jesus Christ.

01:15:38.600 --> 01:15:42.040
Right? And our response to that should be love for that person.

01:15:42.040 --> 01:15:45.880
Right? It's not, oh, that was the dumbest answer I've ever heard in my life.

01:15:45.880 --> 01:15:47.720
You know, have fun burning in hell. Right?

01:15:47.720 --> 01:15:50.120
Now look, there's a time for the false prophets of this world

01:15:50.120 --> 01:15:52.920
where we gotta kick it up a notch and tell them to go to hell or something like that.

01:15:52.920 --> 01:15:55.000
I'm not saying, hey, the Mormons, tell them to go to hell.

01:15:55.000 --> 01:15:59.240
All right? If anyone preaches another gospel, let them be accursed, the Bible says.

01:15:59.240 --> 01:16:01.800
But you know what? Just average Joe that we're out there.

01:16:01.800 --> 01:16:04.760
You know, if they're not getting saved the first time we interact with them,

01:16:04.760 --> 01:16:06.440
we don't want to just tear their head off.

01:16:06.600 --> 01:16:09.400
off, you know, rip them a new one or something like that.

01:16:09.400 --> 01:16:10.840
We want to show love to that person.

01:16:10.840 --> 01:16:14.600
And of course, love does not mean we don't correct them.

01:16:14.600 --> 01:16:18.960
Love does not mean we don't tell them that they're wrong, that we don't tell them that

01:16:18.960 --> 01:16:20.920
they're on their way to hell, right?

01:16:20.920 --> 01:16:24.540
Because the most loving thing we could do is tell them, hey, you're not saved, right?

01:16:24.540 --> 01:16:25.780
Because what are we there to do?

01:16:25.780 --> 01:16:27.800
We're there to get them saved.

01:16:27.800 --> 01:16:30.880
We're not there even necessarily to get them in church, though we'd love them to come to

01:16:30.880 --> 01:16:31.600
church.

01:16:31.700 --> 01:16:34.700
We're not there to do anything else, some hidden agenda.

01:16:34.700 --> 01:16:37.300
We are just there to pull them out of the fire.

01:16:37.300 --> 01:16:37.800
That's it.

01:16:37.800 --> 01:16:38.300
And you know what?

01:16:38.300 --> 01:16:41.900
You need to always keep that love in your heart as a soul winner.

01:16:41.900 --> 01:16:47.800
The most effective soul winners, they have this in common, compassion, love, tears.

01:16:47.800 --> 01:16:50.600
That should never get rid of that in your life.

01:16:50.600 --> 01:16:52.000
You need that love.

01:16:52.000 --> 01:16:56.500
Stupid answer, foolish answer, but Jesus beholds him, loves him.

01:16:57.100 --> 01:17:01.340
and said unto him, One thing thou lackest, go thy way, sell whatsoever thou hast, and

01:17:01.340 --> 01:17:06.620
give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven. And come, take up the cross, and follow me.

01:17:07.000 --> 01:17:12.680
and he was sad at that possession and went away grieved. Notice for he had great possessions.

01:17:12.680 --> 01:17:17.480
Again, one thing about that story I just want to reiterate to you is that Jesus is not reading

01:17:17.480 --> 01:17:23.720
minds. Jesus is an experienced soul winner. He uses discernment and you know what the longer

01:17:23.720 --> 01:17:28.600
you go soul winning hopefully the more you could recognize patterns in people and say,

01:17:28.600 --> 01:17:32.600
okay this person told me they're of this church I bet you they believe this.

01:17:32.700 --> 01:17:37.500
Oh, this person's in this type of neighborhood. Hate to say it. I bet you they believe this.

01:17:37.500 --> 01:17:41.980
You know, if we went soul winning today in Nichols Hills, let me tell you what we would find.

01:17:41.980 --> 01:17:47.580
Prideful people. Prideful people. I'm sure we'd find some saved individuals. Absolutely. There

01:17:47.580 --> 01:17:51.580
are some good rich men in the Bible. But you know, we're going to find a lot of prideful people

01:17:51.580 --> 01:17:55.660
that have lived their whole life pulling themselves up by their bootstraps,

01:17:55.660 --> 01:18:00.060
working hard, being smart, earning the things that they have. But guess what? Salvation is not that

01:18:00.060 --> 01:18:00.700
way.

01:18:01.000 --> 01:18:02.700
Salvation is not something that's earned.

01:18:02.700 --> 01:18:04.040
Salvation is a free gift.

01:18:04.040 --> 01:18:06.040
This is why, hey, if you've been soul winning

01:18:06.040 --> 01:18:07.880
more than one time in your entire life,

01:18:07.880 --> 01:18:09.640
you could probably figure out that we should be going

01:18:09.640 --> 01:18:13.340
to the more poor areas of this city and of this world.

01:18:13.340 --> 01:18:16.480
When we go to the more poor areas, it's more receptive.

01:18:16.480 --> 01:18:18.760
Now, there can kind of be like a cap

01:18:18.760 --> 01:18:21.480
where it's like there's poor, there's like working poor.

01:18:21.480 --> 01:18:23.760
Then there's like high 100% of the time,

01:18:23.760 --> 01:18:25.500
drunk 100% of the time, poor.

01:18:25.500 --> 01:18:27.800
These are like the Indian towns we've been to in Oklahoma.

01:18:28.000 --> 01:18:30.000
And hopefully, Pauska will break the cycle.

01:18:30.000 --> 01:18:33.280
But you know, we're not going to quit trying preaching to the Native Americans.

01:18:34.400 --> 01:18:35.200
Great story there.

01:18:36.080 --> 01:18:39.760
Then it says in verse 23, and Jesus looked round about and saith unto his disciples,

01:18:39.760 --> 01:18:44.560
How hardly shall they that have riches enter into the kingdom of God.

01:18:44.560 --> 01:18:46.320
So Jesus just spells it out.

01:18:46.320 --> 01:18:48.240
Rich people are not receptive.

01:18:48.960 --> 01:18:50.800
Very few rich people will be in heaven.

01:18:51.360 --> 01:18:52.320
That's the reality.

01:18:53.600 --> 01:18:55.680
Notice verse 24, very important verse,

01:18:55.680 --> 01:18:58.480
and the disciples were astonished at his words.

01:18:58.480 --> 01:19:00.800
But Jesus answered again and saith unto them,

01:19:00.800 --> 01:19:03.680
Children, how hard is it, notice,

01:19:03.680 --> 01:19:08.480
for them that trust in riches to enter into the kingdom of God.

01:19:08.480 --> 01:19:11.200
What is stopping a rich person from getting saved?

01:19:11.200 --> 01:19:12.080
It's not their riches.

01:19:12.080 --> 01:19:15.600
It's not that they have to really give up all their possessions

01:19:15.600 --> 01:19:18.000
and become this ultra disciple of Christ.

01:19:18.000 --> 01:19:20.720
It's their trust that's stopping them.

01:19:20.720 --> 01:19:21.560
They are trusting in-

01:19:21.600 --> 01:19:25.920
themselves that's why they're not saved that's why anyone's not saved what they

01:19:25.920 --> 01:19:30.880
have to do to do to be saved is realize hey this is one bill I can't pay this is

01:19:30.880 --> 01:19:34.600
one job I can't complete I can't finish this is something I have to wholly

01:19:34.600 --> 01:19:39.560
depend on someone else to do for me that's why few rich people are saved and

01:19:39.560 --> 01:19:43.600
that's why it's hard for a rich man to be saved now what you'll notice in this

01:19:43.600 --> 01:19:45.700
verse it did not say that it's hard to be saved

01:19:46.200 --> 01:19:48.100
It did not say it's hard to go to heaven.

01:19:48.100 --> 01:19:52.000
It's hard for those that trust in riches to go to heaven.

01:19:52.000 --> 01:19:53.540
Now, what if someone told you,

01:19:53.540 --> 01:19:56.680
man, it's really hard to be saved.

01:19:56.680 --> 01:19:59.040
Would you think that person was saved or unsaved?

01:19:59.040 --> 01:20:00.580
Unsaved, right?

01:20:00.580 --> 01:20:02.240
Hey, you know, do you think you're going to heaven?

01:20:02.240 --> 01:20:03.980
Man, it's just so hard.

01:20:03.980 --> 01:20:05.440
So much work.

01:20:05.440 --> 01:20:06.680
There's so many things I have to do.

01:20:06.680 --> 01:20:07.740
I just don't know if I'm going to heaven

01:20:07.740 --> 01:20:08.580
because it's so hard.

01:20:08.580 --> 01:20:09.540
You'd say like, hey,

01:20:09.540 --> 01:20:10.940
I immediately know something about you.

01:20:10.940 --> 01:20:11.780
You're not saved.

01:20:12.300 --> 01:20:17.100
You believe a false gospel because saying it's hard to go to heaven is a false gospel.

01:20:17.100 --> 01:20:21.500
Well, let me tell you something. The modern versions of the Bible teach a false gospel here.

01:20:21.500 --> 01:20:28.300
Because in the NIV, this is what it says, children, how hard is it to enter the kingdom of God?

01:20:29.100 --> 01:20:31.180
The NIV just says, hey, it's hard to go to heaven.

01:20:31.180 --> 01:20:33.180
That's a false gospel.

01:20:33.180 --> 01:20:37.980
Look, we're not King James only because some redneck told us to be King James only.

01:20:37.980 --> 01:20:40.540
We're King James only because it doesn't pervert the gospel.

01:20:41.260 --> 01:20:45.260
We have the word of God in the King James Bible, and this is a very important topic

01:20:45.260 --> 01:20:49.100
that you have at King James Bible because it's not that the modern versions

01:20:49.100 --> 01:20:50.780
are just updating the language.

01:20:51.100 --> 01:20:53.700
It's not that they're just getting rid of the these and the owls.

01:20:53.700 --> 01:20:55.400
Oh, it's a little easier to understand.

01:20:55.400 --> 01:20:57.500
No, they're perverting doctrine.

01:20:57.500 --> 01:20:59.700
They're perverting salvific doctrine.

01:20:59.700 --> 01:21:01.900
This could affect someone's eternity.

01:21:01.900 --> 01:21:06.300
When they open up the Bible and they see Jesus Christ, supposedly,

01:21:06.300 --> 01:21:07.900
saying, it's hard to go to heaven.

01:21:07.900 --> 01:21:09.900
Boy, that would be discouraging.

01:21:09.900 --> 01:21:12.200
I thought the gospel was good news.

01:21:12.200 --> 01:21:14.900
Hey, good news, it's super hard to go to heaven.

01:21:15.500 --> 01:21:18.460
It's just like, whosoever will.

01:21:18.460 --> 01:21:20.700
That's the good news, is that it's free.

01:21:20.700 --> 01:21:26.560
The ESV says this, children, how difficult is it to enter the kingdom of God?

01:21:26.560 --> 01:21:28.860
That is a false gospel.

01:21:28.860 --> 01:21:31.760
It's hard for those that trust in riches.

01:21:31.760 --> 01:21:34.760
It's difficult for those that trust in riches, but you know what?

01:21:34.760 --> 01:21:36.600
It's easy to be saved.

01:21:36.600 --> 01:21:38.080
Whosoever believeth, the Bible says.

01:21:39.200 --> 01:21:43.760
Notice he says in verse 25, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for

01:21:43.760 --> 01:21:48.080
a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God. And they were astonished out of measure,

01:21:48.080 --> 01:21:50.080
saying among themselves, who then can be saved?

01:21:50.500 --> 01:21:55.460
And Jesus looking upon them, saith with men, it is impossible, but not with God.

01:21:55.460 --> 01:21:57.620
For with God all things are possible.

01:21:57.620 --> 01:22:01.400
You know if salvation was by man's effort, it would be impossible.

01:22:01.400 --> 01:22:02.860
No one would be saved.

01:22:02.860 --> 01:22:07.460
If you could lose your salvation, then salvation would be impossible.

01:22:07.460 --> 01:22:11.460
Because if I could lose my salvation, I would.

01:22:11.460 --> 01:22:13.940
If you could lose your salvation, you would.

01:22:13.940 --> 01:22:17.740
And the only person who says that they wouldn't is just a prideful lying jerk.

01:22:18.200 --> 01:22:22.840
Because you know what the thought of foolishness is sin if you look at a woman to lust after her

01:22:22.840 --> 01:22:27.720
It's a sin coveting is a sin lying is a sin greed is a sin

01:22:27.840 --> 01:22:33.000
You are gonna sin in your life this idea of just like I'm saved now. I'm never gonna sin. No, that's not true

01:22:33.800 --> 01:22:39.480
Verse 28 says, Then Peter began to say unto him, Lo, we have left all and have followed these.

01:22:39.480 --> 01:22:43.400
Like you just got done telling this guy, hey, sell everything you have, follow me,

01:22:43.400 --> 01:22:47.800
you're gonna have rewards. And he's like, hey, we've actually done that. We've done that, Lord.

01:22:48.000 --> 01:22:52.880
Notice verse 29, and Jesus answered and said, Verily, I say unto you, there is no man that

01:22:52.880 --> 01:23:00.000
hath left. Notice this list, house or brethren or sisters or father or mother or wife or children

01:23:00.000 --> 01:23:06.960
or lands for my sake and the gospels, but he shall receive and hundredfold now in this time houses

01:23:06.960 --> 01:23:12.880
and brethren and sisters and mothers and children and lands with persecutions and in the world to

01:23:12.880 --> 01:23:14.560
come eternal life.

01:23:15.300 --> 01:23:17.800
One thing I want to point out about this is that you know what?

01:23:17.800 --> 01:23:22.100
It might be God's will for you to have to sacrifice some of these things.

01:23:23.000 --> 01:23:25.140
Look, salvation is very easy.

01:23:25.140 --> 01:23:26.840
Being a disciple is very hard.

01:23:27.500 --> 01:23:29.600
There are few people that are disciples.

01:23:29.600 --> 01:23:31.240
You don't have to be a disciple to be saved.

01:23:31.240 --> 01:23:34.100
Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved.

01:23:34.100 --> 01:23:36.540
But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that

01:23:36.540 --> 01:23:39.980
justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness.

01:23:39.980 --> 01:23:43.020
But you know, being a disciple of Jesus Christ is counting the

01:23:43.020 --> 01:23:46.860
cost and being willing to sacrifice anything for Jesus Christ.

01:23:46.860 --> 01:23:47.820
You know what that could look like?

01:23:47.820 --> 01:23:50.360
That could look like houses or lands.

01:23:51.200 --> 01:23:52.800
And look, that's something that I've done.

01:23:52.800 --> 01:23:55.960
I've moved multiple times across this country

01:23:55.960 --> 01:23:57.860
for the ministry of Jesus Christ.

01:23:57.860 --> 01:23:59.380
And it's something that I don't regret doing.

01:23:59.380 --> 01:24:00.460
I would do it again.

01:24:00.460 --> 01:24:01.640
There's other people in this room

01:24:01.640 --> 01:24:03.040
who have done that same thing.

01:24:03.040 --> 01:24:04.360
But look, let me tell you something.

01:24:04.360 --> 01:24:05.860
Just because you were born somewhere

01:24:05.860 --> 01:24:07.400
does not necessarily mean it's God's will

01:24:07.400 --> 01:24:09.640
for you to stay there your whole life.

01:24:09.640 --> 01:24:11.240
There are some people who were born in America

01:24:11.240 --> 01:24:13.880
and it's God's will for them to be a foreign missionary.

01:24:13.880 --> 01:24:16.140
You know, here's something a lot of people get upset with.

01:24:16.140 --> 01:24:17.720
You know, there's people that are here

01:24:17.720 --> 01:24:19.100
in the United States illegally.

01:24:19.400 --> 01:24:21.960
and they get deported and some people say like,

01:24:21.960 --> 01:24:24.200
oh, that's so terrible, that's so awful.

01:24:24.200 --> 01:24:28.440
You know, selfishly, I want to keep as many safe people here as possible.

01:24:28.440 --> 01:24:31.080
But the way I look at it is like, hey, if someone's going to our church

01:24:31.080 --> 01:24:33.640
and they get deported because they're not here legally,

01:24:33.640 --> 01:24:37.960
maybe it was just God's will for them to be a light in their country, right?

01:24:37.960 --> 01:24:41.320
Not saying that I'm going to try to get someone who saved part of our church

01:24:41.320 --> 01:24:43.880
deported or something like that. But look, we've had someone in this church.

01:24:44.300 --> 01:24:46.500
who their visa expired and they had to go home.

01:24:46.500 --> 01:24:47.700
They weren't deported or anything like that.

01:24:47.700 --> 01:24:50.100
They just went on their own because they overstayed the visa.

01:24:50.100 --> 01:24:51.200
They couldn't stay here any longer.

01:24:51.200 --> 01:24:52.500
And we love that person.

01:24:52.500 --> 01:24:53.100
We were sad.

01:24:53.100 --> 01:24:56.700
But you know that person's preaching the gospel in their country doing great things for God.

01:24:56.700 --> 01:24:57.200
And you know what?

01:24:57.200 --> 01:24:59.500
I think that person's in the will of the Lord.

01:24:59.500 --> 01:25:00.500
Right?

01:25:00.500 --> 01:25:05.100
And so I'm just saying like wherever you're from doesn't necessarily mean that that's where God wants you forever.

01:25:05.100 --> 01:25:07.000
You may have to move to be in God's will.

01:25:07.000 --> 01:25:08.100
And you know what?

01:25:08.100 --> 01:25:11.000
For my life, I want to serve God the best I possibly can.

01:25:11.600 --> 01:25:14.400
I want to be in the greatest church I possibly can be in.

01:25:14.400 --> 01:25:16.960
I even want to go to a church in a receptive area.

01:25:16.960 --> 01:25:21.520
I want to be in a church where I can go there and preach the gospel and get lots of people saved.

01:25:21.800 --> 01:25:25.480
And you know what? I came to Oklahoma City by my own choice.

01:25:25.480 --> 01:25:29.000
I wanted to come here. And look, there's some people all over America

01:25:29.000 --> 01:25:32.520
where they don't really have a great church option. They don't have people that they go

01:25:32.520 --> 01:25:37.320
soul-winning with. They're constantly miserable about constantly hearing about Zionism and the

01:25:37.320 --> 01:25:41.560
pre-trib and not hearing hard sermons and not being involved in soul-winning.

01:25:41.560 --> 01:25:43.480
And you know what? I think that you should probably move.

01:25:44.100 --> 01:25:49.100
because this life is too short to not do something big for Christ.

01:25:49.100 --> 01:25:50.400
His life's just too short.

01:25:50.400 --> 01:25:51.200
And you know what?

01:25:51.200 --> 01:25:53.300
Your house, you'll have a better one in heaven.

01:25:53.300 --> 01:25:55.700
Your lands, the earth is going to be way cooler in heaven.

01:25:55.900 --> 01:26:00.220
And so, you know, the millennial reign of Christ and the new heaven and new earth, that's

01:26:00.220 --> 01:26:05.460
our time to really enjoy this world, enjoy the pleasures of this earth and of the creation

01:26:05.460 --> 01:26:06.460
that God's made.

01:26:06.460 --> 01:26:08.700
But you know what God has put us here to do now?

01:26:08.700 --> 01:26:10.420
To work.

01:26:10.420 --> 01:26:12.620
We are here to work.

01:26:12.620 --> 01:26:15.780
Quit complaining about the work that God's given you to do.

01:26:15.780 --> 01:26:17.060
Oh, I'm tired.

01:26:17.060 --> 01:26:18.380
I'm so tired from my work.

01:26:18.380 --> 01:26:19.820
I can't go soul winning.

01:26:19.820 --> 01:26:21.380
God created you to work.

01:26:21.800 --> 01:26:26.200
It's so funny today, you got men in their 20s and their 30s coming into church just like,

01:26:27.320 --> 01:26:33.640
oh, it's like, dude, wake up and get on fire for God. You know, come to church ready to hear God's

01:26:33.640 --> 01:26:39.960
word. Be excited to be in the house of God. Be engaged. Have a Bible in your hand. Follow along.

01:26:39.960 --> 01:26:44.200
Say, hey, when's the soul winning marathon? When's the next soul winning time? I'm ready to be a

01:26:44.200 --> 01:26:48.760
disciple. And you know what? Some people have literally sacrificed houses and lands to come here.

01:26:49.700 --> 01:26:52.100
And mother and father, let me tell you what, here's another thing.

01:26:52.100 --> 01:26:54.660
It's not promised you're gonna have a good relationship with your parents.

01:26:54.660 --> 01:26:58.500
I hope that you do. I hope that you do. But Christ comes first.

01:26:59.460 --> 01:27:05.460
Christ comes before any human relationship. And I'm telling you, there is a cult of the family

01:27:05.460 --> 01:27:11.460
today. There is a worship and an exaltation of the family today amongst many Christians that is not

01:27:11.460 --> 01:27:16.740
healthy. Not only is it not healthy, it's definitely not something that a disciple would do.

01:27:17.400 --> 01:27:20.520
because the disciple is willing to forsake all to follow Jesus Christ.

01:27:21.400 --> 01:27:25.640
And not to say, hey, we should be quick to burn people, quick to lose relationships,

01:27:25.640 --> 01:27:30.760
just make just haphazard decisions in your life. No, you should make very calculated decisions saying,

01:27:30.760 --> 01:27:34.840
hey, I will do whatever it takes to serve Jesus Christ the best way that I can.

01:27:35.480 --> 01:27:41.160
And if that means leaving house, if that means brethren, sisters, father, mother, wife, children,

01:27:41.160 --> 01:27:43.740
lands for my sake and the gospels.

01:27:44.000 --> 01:27:50.160
Notice it says but he shall receive an hundredfold now in this time houses and brethren and sisters and mothers and children and lands

01:27:50.360 --> 01:27:53.880
with persecutions and in the world to come eternal life

01:27:54.520 --> 01:27:58.880
But many that are first shall be last and the last first here's the good news

01:27:58.880 --> 01:28:05.280
Here's the silver lining is that when you sacrifice something for Christ all of our work will be rewarded

01:28:06.000 --> 01:28:11.040
God is not unrighteous to forget your work and labor of love, which you have

01:28:11.040 --> 01:28:12.520
shown toward His name, the Bible says.

01:28:13.000 --> 01:28:14.280
God's not going to forget your work.

01:28:14.280 --> 01:28:16.680
God's not going to forget the sacrifices that you made.

01:28:16.680 --> 01:28:19.800
And so you don't have to look at it as like, oh, woe is me.

01:28:19.800 --> 01:28:21.480
I had to give something to Christ.

01:28:21.480 --> 01:28:23.560
Hey, I get to give something to Christ.

01:28:23.560 --> 01:28:25.880
I get to sacrifice something for Jesus Christ.

01:28:25.880 --> 01:28:26.600
And you know what?

01:28:26.600 --> 01:28:30.680
The privilege of sacrificing for Jesus Christ is all that I need.

01:28:30.680 --> 01:28:31.240
But you know what?

01:28:31.240 --> 01:28:32.600
Christ is going to do more than that.

01:28:32.600 --> 01:28:35.000
He's going to recompense me with eternal life.

01:28:35.000 --> 01:28:37.960
He's going to recompense me with rewards in heaven,

01:28:37.960 --> 01:28:40.920
you know, ruling in the kingdom of God, but also even in this life.

01:28:41.000 --> 01:28:46.520
life sometimes. Also sometimes in this life he rewards you with more houses, more lands,

01:28:46.520 --> 01:28:52.200
and mothers, and brothers, and sisters, and all of that. Not wives, okay? Not wives. But

01:28:52.200 --> 01:28:55.820
you know what? Maybe you don't have the greatest relationship with your family. You know what?

01:28:55.820 --> 01:28:58.440
You can get plugged into Anchor Baptist Church and you can make some great friends that can

01:28:58.440 --> 01:29:03.600
be family to you. Hey, when I say, hey, let's go to the Lord in prayer as a church family,

01:29:03.600 --> 01:29:04.680
I believe we're a family here.

01:29:05.100 --> 01:29:09.180
We're the family of God. We are brothers and sisters in Christ. You know what?

01:29:09.180 --> 01:29:13.980
Thank God for the house of God that though family forsake you carnal family may forsake you

01:29:13.980 --> 01:29:18.040
You might have issues with mom or dad or brother or sister or uncles or cousins

01:29:18.040 --> 01:29:21.960
But you know you can come to the house of God and be around other people that love Jesus Christ

01:29:22.640 --> 01:29:27.460
That love you that love Jesus Christ. Let me tell you what people who get out of church. They are hurting themselves

01:29:28.480 --> 01:29:29.700
Let me tell you what?

01:29:29.800 --> 01:29:33.200
Way more than you are a blessing to church church is a blessing to you

01:29:34.160 --> 01:29:37.460
Way more than I am a blessing to church church is a blessing to me

01:29:37.460 --> 01:29:41.720
That's the attitude we have but we have many people today that think about churches. What can I get from church?

01:29:41.760 --> 01:29:44.060
What could church get you know do for me?

01:29:44.060 --> 01:29:46.060
You know people used to go to church to work

01:29:46.320 --> 01:29:48.320
People used to go to church to serve God

01:29:48.400 --> 01:29:52.880
People used to go to church to love other people to provoke one another unto love and the good works

01:29:52.880 --> 01:29:56.640
That's what church should be not all about you, but rather other people

01:29:57.500 --> 01:30:02.940
Then he says in verse number 32, And they were in the way going up to Jerusalem.

01:30:02.940 --> 01:30:04.700
And Jesus went before them, and they were amazed.

01:30:04.700 --> 01:30:06.500
And as they followed, they were afraid.

01:30:06.500 --> 01:30:11.220
And he took again the twelve, and began to tell them what things should happen unto him,

01:30:11.220 --> 01:30:13.620
saying, Behold, we go up to Jerusalem.

01:30:13.620 --> 01:30:17.940
Notice the detail that Jesus predicts of his own death.

01:30:17.940 --> 01:30:22.100
And the Son of Man shall be delivered unto the chief priests, and unto the scribes.

01:30:22.100 --> 01:30:23.000
There's the Jews.

01:30:23.400 --> 01:30:29.040
And they shall condemn him to death, by the way, the Jews killed Jesus, and shall deliver

01:30:29.040 --> 01:30:32.520
him to the Gentiles, the Romans, right?

01:30:32.520 --> 01:30:36.900
And they shall mock him, and shall scourge him, and shall spit upon him, and shall kill

01:30:36.900 --> 01:30:41.360
him, and the third day he shall rise again.

01:30:42.000 --> 01:30:47.120
third time that Jesus is prophesying of his death, burial, and resurrection to the disciples.

01:30:47.120 --> 01:30:51.200
And I just love how much detail he gives here because you know what this goes to show is that

01:30:51.200 --> 01:30:56.560
this is not some man with delusions of grandeur who thinks he's some great prophet but who's really

01:30:56.560 --> 01:31:02.160
like some sort of false prophet or anti-Christ. This is the Christ. This is the Messiah. This is

01:31:02.160 --> 01:31:07.120
the one who's coming to fulfill scripture. And you want to know why Jesus knows all of these things

01:31:07.120 --> 01:31:10.000
things are going to happen to them because the scripture teaches that.

01:31:10.000 --> 01:31:15.280
that. Again, it's not like Jesus has superpowers to see into the future or something like that.

01:31:15.280 --> 01:31:19.560
The Bible already saw into the future. The Old Testament already saw into the future.

01:31:19.560 --> 01:31:22.800
And He knows what's written of Himself. And He says, Hey, we're going to Jerusalem right

01:31:22.800 --> 01:31:25.120
now and here's all the things that I'm going to go through.

01:31:26.000 --> 01:31:32.320
Notice verse 35 as Jesus is talking about something spiritual here goes James and John and James and John the sons of Zebedee

01:31:32.720 --> 01:31:37.760
Come unto him saying master we would that thou shouldest do for us whatsoever. We desire

01:31:38.080 --> 01:31:40.420
All right, so interesting way to start a conversation

01:31:40.960 --> 01:31:45.520
They're kind of pulling Jesus aside for like a little secret meeting here. We're gonna have like a more intimate meeting

01:31:45.680 --> 01:31:49.520
Hey Jesus, just for us to we do me a favor just do whatever I ask you

01:31:50.000 --> 01:31:53.120
Whatever I want you to do great way to start a conversation, right?

01:31:54.500 --> 01:32:00.340
Then it says verse 36, he said unto them, what would ye that I should do for you?

01:32:00.340 --> 01:32:04.820
And you know, in a sincere sense, we actually can go to Jesus and ask whatsoever we want from him

01:32:04.820 --> 01:32:08.660
in prayer. Absolutely. But of course, the disciples are a little misguided with what

01:32:08.660 --> 01:32:15.060
they're about to ask here. They said unto him, grant unto us that we may sit one on my right hand

01:32:15.060 --> 01:32:16.980
and the other on my left in my glory.

01:32:17.400 --> 01:32:22.360
Right, so Jesus is talking about how he's about to suffer and go through the worst thing imaginable

01:32:22.360 --> 01:32:26.120
and die. They're like, yeah, yeah, yeah, cool, cool. So when you're raining...

01:32:26.400 --> 01:32:30.240
When you're leading the kingdom, is it cool if we're on the right and the left hand?

01:32:30.240 --> 01:32:34.160
The other ten guys, don't worry about them. Let us have the preeminence, right?

01:32:34.160 --> 01:32:38.160
Let us have that prestige and that station. You can see where it's kind of misguided.

01:32:38.160 --> 01:32:40.800
It's like, why don't you focus on what Jesus just said?

01:32:40.800 --> 01:32:44.640
That you're about to witness the gospel. You're about to witness the suffering of Christ.

01:32:44.640 --> 01:32:46.240
How about you be there for your friend?

01:32:46.600 --> 01:32:50.300
I mean, he's about to go through this stuff and the disciples are going to be sleeping

01:32:50.300 --> 01:32:51.300
in prayer.

01:32:51.300 --> 01:32:53.480
This should be a moment like, wow, you're about to go through this.

01:32:53.480 --> 01:32:55.160
Let's get really spiritual.

01:32:55.160 --> 01:32:56.700
Let's start praying for you.

01:32:56.700 --> 01:32:57.700
Let's be with you.

01:32:57.700 --> 01:32:59.900
But no, they're just thinking about themselves.

01:32:59.900 --> 01:33:01.380
They're thinking about their status.

01:33:01.380 --> 01:33:04.540
They're thinking about their power, their prestige.

01:33:04.540 --> 01:33:08.140
And Jesus correctly diagnoses their problem, of course, in verse 38.

01:33:08.140 --> 01:33:10.580
But Jesus said unto them, you know not what you ask.

01:33:10.580 --> 01:33:12.100
He's like, you guys don't even know what you're talking about right now.

01:33:12.700 --> 01:33:17.660
You guys have no clue. I'm talking about spiritual things. You guys think I'm about to set up a kingdom right now

01:33:17.900 --> 01:33:20.540
You guys are not understanding. You don't even know what you're asking right now

01:33:20.940 --> 01:33:24.460
Okay, then he says hey, can you drink of the cup that I drink of?

01:33:24.940 --> 01:33:28.780
And be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with

01:33:29.340 --> 01:33:30.800
They said unto him we can

01:33:31.000 --> 01:33:35.160
And Jesus said unto them, You shall indeed drink of the cup that I drink of, and with

01:33:35.160 --> 01:33:38.520
the baptism that I am baptized with all shall ye be baptized.

01:33:38.520 --> 01:33:43.000
Now, the disciples here probably think that Jesus is talking about drinking out of a cup

01:33:43.000 --> 01:33:47.320
and getting baptized because the disciples seem to always not understand what Jesus is

01:33:47.320 --> 01:33:48.320
saying.

01:33:48.320 --> 01:33:52.000
But what is Jesus talking about when he talks about this cup and this baptism?

01:33:52.000 --> 01:33:53.480
It's talking about his suffering.

01:33:53.480 --> 01:33:55.560
Okay, let's prove that in a few places.

01:33:55.560 --> 01:33:56.400
Chapter 14.

01:33:56.800 --> 01:33:59.800
We're going to flip over a few pages to Mark chapter number 14.

01:34:02.600 --> 01:34:10.680
Mark 14 look at verse number 36 and he said Abba father all things are possible unto thee take away this cup from me

01:34:11.400 --> 01:34:18.420
Nevertheless, not what I will but what thou will what's the cup that he's talking about is the suffering of the cross is the passion

01:34:18.420 --> 01:34:21.580
He wants that cup to be removed from him and he's saying hey

01:34:21.580 --> 01:34:25.200
Can you drink of the cup that I'm going through they say we can he says yes you can

01:34:25.480 --> 01:34:28.540
Okay, the baptism. What about the baptism Luke chapter 12?

01:34:30.300 --> 01:34:35.300
Luke chapter number 12 verse 50 when you get there.

01:34:35.300 --> 01:34:36.900
Look at Luke 12 50.

01:34:37.000 --> 01:34:41.700
Jesus said, but I have a baptism to be baptized with,

01:34:41.700 --> 01:34:45.240
and how am I straightened till it be accomplished?

01:34:45.240 --> 01:34:47.600
Again, not talking about when he's baptized with John,

01:34:47.600 --> 01:34:50.140
it's talking about the baptism of suffering

01:34:50.140 --> 01:34:52.420
that he's about to go through, the cross,

01:34:52.420 --> 01:34:54.220
the pain and death of the cross.

01:34:54.220 --> 01:34:55.920
So that's what he's talking about.

01:34:55.920 --> 01:34:58.620
And of course, Jesus says, go back to Mark 10,

01:34:58.620 --> 01:34:59.780
we'll be flipping a few pages here

01:34:59.780 --> 01:35:01.460
looking at some cross references,

01:35:01.460 --> 01:35:03.820
but back in Mark 10, verse 39, he says,

01:35:03.820 --> 01:35:04.820
ye shall indeed.

01:35:05.000 --> 01:35:10.000
drink of the cup that I drink of and with the baptism that I'm baptized with

01:35:10.000 --> 01:35:15.560
all shall ye be baptized what is Jesus saying hey you are gonna suffer you are

01:35:15.560 --> 01:35:18.600
gonna endure the suffering that I'm going through you're gonna get the same

01:35:18.600 --> 01:35:22.880
cup you're gonna get the same baptism now do we see in Scripture this actually

01:35:22.880 --> 01:35:26.480
come to pass yes we do go to Acts chapter number 12 Acts chapter number 12

01:35:26.480 --> 01:35:30.100
let's look at the cup that James drank of

01:35:31.100 --> 01:35:35.900
the baptism that he was baptized of Acts chapter number 12. Look at verse number one.

01:35:37.020 --> 01:35:42.700
Now about that time Herod the king stretched forth his hands to vex certain of the church.

01:35:42.700 --> 01:35:48.540
Notice and he killed James the brother of John with the sword. So you know James ended up drinking

01:35:48.540 --> 01:35:53.820
of that cup. James ended up being baptized with that baptism. And you know what Jesus said a few

01:35:53.820 --> 01:35:56.600
verse earlier he said with persecutions.

01:35:56.700 --> 01:36:03.420
Hey, all these things. Yeah, they'll be added to you. But with persecutions, what do we see James happens to James? He gets martyred

01:36:03.580 --> 01:36:05.820
He's a martyr for the Lord Jesus Christ. Okay. What about?

01:36:06.460 --> 01:36:08.620
John go to Revelation chapter number one

01:36:09.420 --> 01:36:15.860
Got James and John he says hey you both are gonna drink of this cup. You're going to be baptized with this baptism

01:36:16.260 --> 01:36:18.260
Well, what happened to John?

01:36:18.500 --> 01:36:20.500
John said Revelation chapter number

01:36:21.100 --> 01:36:28.580
1 verse 9, I John, who also am your brother, notice, and companion in tribulation, and

01:36:28.580 --> 01:36:33.500
in the kingdom and patience of Jesus Christ was in the isle that is called Patmos for

01:36:33.500 --> 01:36:37.300
the word of God and for the testimony of Jesus Christ.

01:36:37.300 --> 01:36:42.640
His cup and his baptism was exile, persecution, tribulation.

01:36:42.640 --> 01:36:44.460
So hey, careful what you ask for.

01:36:45.000 --> 01:36:47.300
Hey, you know, hey, can you drink of this?

01:36:47.300 --> 01:36:48.400
And they say, yeah, we can.

01:36:48.400 --> 01:36:50.400
He says, yeah, you will drink of it.

01:36:50.400 --> 01:36:53.240
You will be baptized with the same baptism.

01:36:53.240 --> 01:36:55.800
Go back to Mark chapter number 10.

01:36:55.800 --> 01:36:58.200
So he says, hey, you don't know what you're asking right now.

01:36:58.400 --> 01:37:03.760
You guys are going to die. You guys are going to suffer. You are going to suffer persecution.

01:37:03.760 --> 01:37:07.200
Again, why would I believe the preacher of rapture again? That Christians aren't going to suffer

01:37:07.200 --> 01:37:12.240
persecution? That no Christians will ever be martyred when James himself was martyred? When

01:37:12.240 --> 01:37:17.520
Jesus died on the cross? When John was exiled and persecuted? I'm supposed to believe that none of

01:37:17.520 --> 01:37:20.400
us will ever receive persecution. That is ridiculous.

01:37:20.700 --> 01:37:27.260
Verse 40 says this, but to sit on my right hand and on my left hand is not mine to give,

01:37:27.820 --> 01:37:31.660
but it shall be given to them for whom it is prepared. Another thing I want to point out here

01:37:31.660 --> 01:37:36.860
is that there are distinct persons in the Trinity. Right? If you look at the parallel accounts and

01:37:36.860 --> 01:37:41.820
the other gospels, he makes it clear that it shall be given to them of whom my father has prepared.

01:37:41.820 --> 01:37:48.220
Right? So Jesus is not the father. Okay. There are three persons, one God.

01:37:48.800 --> 01:37:55.520
the father, the son, and the Holy Spirit, and this idea of modalism that Jesus is the father,

01:37:55.520 --> 01:38:00.400
and Jesus is the Holy Spirit, and Jesus just like turns into different modes of being,

01:38:00.400 --> 01:38:05.120
puts on different hats at different times, is completely foreign to Scripture. There are three

01:38:05.120 --> 01:38:10.160
persons and Jesus is not the father. How do we know that? Because he says, hey, it's not mine to

01:38:10.160 --> 01:38:15.760
give. It's someone else's to give. That means they're not the same person. Crystal clear.

01:38:16.300 --> 01:38:22.020
Verse 41, and when the ten heard it, they began to be much displeased with James and

01:38:22.020 --> 01:38:23.020
John.

01:38:23.020 --> 01:38:26.100
I think they're displeased because in the previous chapter they were arguing about who's

01:38:26.100 --> 01:38:27.100
going to be the greatest.

01:38:27.100 --> 01:38:28.860
And they're like, man, we wanted that secret meeting.

01:38:28.860 --> 01:38:31.140
We wanted to ask that question, right?

01:38:31.140 --> 01:38:34.580
So I don't think they're coming from like a moment of holiness here where they're like,

01:38:34.580 --> 01:38:35.980
that was prideful, James and John.

01:38:35.980 --> 01:38:36.980
You shouldn't have done.

01:38:36.980 --> 01:38:38.820
They're probably just mad that they didn't get to ask that same question.

01:38:40.100 --> 01:38:44.820
But Jesus called them to him and said unto them, saith unto them, You know that they

01:38:44.820 --> 01:38:49.700
which are accounted to rule over the Gentiles exercise lordship over them, and their great

01:38:49.700 --> 01:38:52.180
ones exercise authority upon them.

01:38:52.180 --> 01:38:59.140
But so shall it not be among you, but whosoever will be great among you shall be your minister."

01:38:59.140 --> 01:39:00.140
Right?

01:39:00.140 --> 01:39:01.760
So what is the context here?

01:39:01.760 --> 01:39:06.300
The context is that in the last chapter the disciples are literally arguing about who's

01:39:06.300 --> 01:39:07.540
going to be the greatest.

01:39:07.900 --> 01:39:11.980
Then, they were rebuked for it, and they still didn't get the message, because James and

01:39:11.980 --> 01:39:16.020
John get this little sidebar with Jesus, where they're like, hey, can we sit on your right

01:39:16.020 --> 01:39:17.020
hand?

01:39:17.020 --> 01:39:18.020
Can we sit on your left?

01:39:18.020 --> 01:39:21.340
What is the spirit behind what the disciples are doing that is wrong?

01:39:21.340 --> 01:39:24.420
It's that they're focusing on position.

01:39:24.420 --> 01:39:26.080
They're focusing on power.

01:39:26.080 --> 01:39:27.620
They're focusing on prestige.

01:39:27.620 --> 01:39:31.600
Now, is what Jesus is teaching here that power is just inherently bad?

01:39:32.000 --> 01:39:34.100
or that being a leader is somehow bad,

01:39:34.100 --> 01:39:36.560
or that exercising authority is somehow bad?

01:39:36.560 --> 01:39:38.820
No, but there is something bad with just like

01:39:38.820 --> 01:39:40.620
wanting power for the sake of power.

01:39:41.000 --> 01:39:47.280
Wanting authority for the sake of authority what defines greatness in a leader and in any person is

01:39:47.780 --> 01:39:54.140
The quantity and quality of their service for other people right because some people have twisted this and said like hey

01:39:54.140 --> 01:39:58.040
Well the Gentiles they exercise lordship or they exercise authority

01:39:58.160 --> 01:40:00.760
But you know we as Christians we should do

01:40:01.180 --> 01:40:06.060
Servant leadership and what some people mean by servant leadership is that the employees are in charge

01:40:07.000 --> 01:40:11.160
that the wife is in charge of the husband, that the church members are in charge of the pastor.

01:40:11.160 --> 01:40:16.600
That is not what this is saying. Okay, if you ever have a Bible interpretation that causes

01:40:16.600 --> 01:40:21.000
contradictions with other parts of the Bible, you are wrong. You have a problem. What does the

01:40:21.000 --> 01:40:25.960
Bible say? Hey, servants, be in subjection to your own masters with all fear.

01:40:26.600 --> 01:40:29.600
Wives, obey your husbands. Submit your husbands.

01:40:29.600 --> 01:40:34.000
Hey, the elders that rule well, obey them that have the rule over you.

01:40:34.000 --> 01:40:37.000
Obey the higher powers. We're not getting rid of authority.

01:40:37.300 --> 01:40:40.500
Okay, husbands are in charge of their families.

01:40:40.500 --> 01:40:42.380
Husbands are an authority over their families.

01:40:42.380 --> 01:40:44.620
The government has authority from God.

01:40:44.620 --> 01:40:47.260
Pastors have authority from God, right?

01:40:47.260 --> 01:40:48.820
You know, any area of life.

01:40:48.820 --> 01:40:51.420
The piano teacher's in charge of the kid learning piano.

01:40:51.420 --> 01:40:53.500
Like we don't want to get rid of authority,

01:40:53.500 --> 01:40:57.020
but we want people in authority to use their authority

01:40:57.020 --> 01:40:59.540
out of service for other people.

01:41:00.000 --> 01:41:03.400
As a husband, I'm in charge, and so I'm going to make all the decisions,

01:41:03.400 --> 01:41:07.000
and I'm going to do my best to make decisions that are best for my wife and kids.

01:41:07.000 --> 01:41:08.200
Because I love them.

01:41:08.200 --> 01:41:11.200
This is not saying that whatever my wife wants, she gets.

01:41:11.200 --> 01:41:13.200
Whatever my kids want, they get.

01:41:13.200 --> 01:41:15.600
No, no, no. I make all the decisions as a husband,

01:41:15.600 --> 01:41:18.600
but I do that out of service for them. Right?

01:41:18.600 --> 01:41:21.800
A good boss, you know, he wants his employees to thrive.

01:41:21.800 --> 01:41:23.700
He wants his employees to do well.

01:41:23.700 --> 01:41:25.800
Employees do well, the company does well,

01:41:25.800 --> 01:41:27.800
but does that mean he gives authority to the employees?

01:41:28.000 --> 01:41:29.560
Absolutely not.

01:41:29.560 --> 01:41:30.760
Right, so here's the thing.

01:41:30.760 --> 01:41:32.480
Greatness in life, what does he say?

01:41:32.480 --> 01:41:34.860
But whosoever will be great among you

01:41:34.860 --> 01:41:36.600
shall be your minister.

01:41:36.600 --> 01:41:37.780
Here's the great thing about this

01:41:37.780 --> 01:41:41.360
is that whether you are a leader or a follower,

01:41:41.360 --> 01:41:43.900
we all can be ministers.

01:41:43.900 --> 01:41:45.680
We all can serve.

01:41:45.680 --> 01:41:49.160
So great leaders, they're not people who, you know,

01:41:49.160 --> 01:41:50.000
thwart their authority.

01:41:50.000 --> 01:41:51.560
They're not people who get rid of their authority.

01:41:51.560 --> 01:41:53.080
They're people who serve.

01:41:53.200 --> 01:41:59.740
Leaders who serve and the best followers. They're not people who take authority from their bosses or something like that. They serve

01:42:00.200 --> 01:42:04.200
And this is awesome how the playing field could be leveled in Christianity.

01:42:04.200 --> 01:42:08.360
How no matter if you have a position, whether you have authority, whether you have a title,

01:42:08.360 --> 01:42:13.480
we all can be great in heaven by the service that we do right now.

01:42:13.480 --> 01:42:17.400
And this is how we know, by the way, that it's not like you're going to get to heaven,

01:42:17.400 --> 01:42:22.200
and it's like, well, you know, pastors automatically are just going to be the special class in heaven,

01:42:22.200 --> 01:42:24.360
and all the pastors are going to be better than everyone else.

01:42:24.360 --> 01:42:27.720
Now look, I'm sure there's going to be some pastors that are great in the kingdom of heaven.

01:42:28.100 --> 01:42:30.440
But you know what, there's also going to be laymen,

01:42:30.440 --> 01:42:31.780
whatever if you want to use that word,

01:42:31.780 --> 01:42:33.420
that are great in the kingdom of heaven.

01:42:33.420 --> 01:42:34.980
There's going to be mothers that are great

01:42:34.980 --> 01:42:36.020
in the kingdom of heaven.

01:42:36.020 --> 01:42:37.360
There's going to be widows that are great

01:42:37.360 --> 01:42:38.280
in the kingdom of heaven.

01:42:38.280 --> 01:42:39.860
You know what's going to be great in the kingdom of heaven?

01:42:39.860 --> 01:42:41.520
People who spent their life serving others

01:42:41.520 --> 01:42:42.560
and serving God.

01:42:42.560 --> 01:42:43.820
That's what it comes down to.

01:42:43.820 --> 01:42:44.660
Keep your place there.

01:42:44.660 --> 01:42:46.400
Go to 1 Timothy chapter five.

01:42:46.400 --> 01:42:49.460
1 Timothy chapter number five.

01:42:52.100 --> 01:42:54.180
1 Timothy 5, look at verse 24.

01:42:54.180 --> 01:42:57.380
Some men's sins are open beforehand,

01:42:57.380 --> 01:43:00.380
going before the judgment, and some men, they follow after.

01:43:00.380 --> 01:43:03.340
You look at some people, and you can just see on the surface,

01:43:03.340 --> 01:43:05.740
wow, this person is living a sinful life.

01:43:05.740 --> 01:43:06.540
But you know what?

01:43:06.540 --> 01:43:08.740
Just because you can't see on the surface

01:43:08.740 --> 01:43:10.260
that someone's living a sinful life

01:43:10.260 --> 01:43:11.820
doesn't mean that they are not secretly

01:43:11.820 --> 01:43:12.800
living a sinful life.

01:43:13.100 --> 01:43:15.400
Right? Sometimes it's obvious, sometimes it's not.

01:43:15.400 --> 01:43:16.600
We'll look at verse 25.

01:43:16.600 --> 01:43:21.300
Likewise, also the good works of some are manifest beforehand.

01:43:21.300 --> 01:43:24.800
And they that are otherwise cannot be hid.

01:43:24.800 --> 01:43:26.900
Hey, there are some people, you could look at their life

01:43:26.900 --> 01:43:29.200
and they're like, wow, this person's dedicated.

01:43:29.200 --> 01:43:32.400
Wow, this person's using a lot of their time, energy, resources,

01:43:32.400 --> 01:43:35.400
love towards other people, serving God, serving others.

01:43:35.400 --> 01:43:37.700
But you know, there's other people doing great things for God

01:43:37.700 --> 01:43:39.100
that you don't see as much.

01:43:39.300 --> 01:43:42.980
And just because you don't see it doesn't mean it's not being done. What's a good example? Well,

01:43:42.980 --> 01:43:49.620
how about this very chapter we're talking about widows and notice a godly widow here. It says in

01:43:49.620 --> 01:43:55.540
verse number five. Now she that is a widow indeed and desolate trusted in God and continueth in

01:43:55.540 --> 01:44:01.860
supplications and prayers night and day. You know, there could be some people that are praying to God

01:44:01.860 --> 01:44:03.540
night and day and you don't see that.

01:44:04.100 --> 01:44:05.100
You don't know that.

01:44:05.100 --> 01:44:08.460
Then there's other people they put on a show that they're spiritual and they never even

01:44:08.460 --> 01:44:09.460
pray.

01:44:09.460 --> 01:44:12.140
They don't spend 10 minutes in prayer with the Lord throughout a week.

01:44:12.140 --> 01:44:15.860
Here's this widow, probably won't pay attention to her, but yet she's praying to God night

01:44:15.860 --> 01:44:16.860
and day.

01:44:16.860 --> 01:44:18.060
Hey, just serve God.

01:44:18.060 --> 01:44:19.060
Fear God.

01:44:19.060 --> 01:44:22.580
Be real in your walk with God because people who serve God are going to be great in the

01:44:22.580 --> 01:44:23.580
kingdom of heaven.

01:44:23.580 --> 01:44:25.980
Go back to Mark chapter 10.

01:44:25.980 --> 01:44:26.300
Mark 10.

01:44:27.100 --> 01:44:31.820
He says verse number 44, and whosoever of you will be the chiefest shall be servant of all.

01:44:31.820 --> 01:44:37.900
Hey, in some ways, the more responsibility as a leader that you have, the more people you serve,

01:44:37.900 --> 01:44:43.500
the more responsibility that you have. Verse 45, I believe this is the theme verse of the whole

01:44:43.500 --> 01:44:44.800
book of Mark right here.

01:44:45.100 --> 01:44:52.140
for even the Son of Man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a

01:44:52.140 --> 01:44:58.140
ransom for many." Beautiful verse there. Last part of this chapter, we'll get through it here,

01:44:58.140 --> 01:45:03.340
and they came to Jericho, and as he went out of Jericho with his disciples and a great number of

01:45:03.340 --> 01:45:08.780
people, blind Bartimaeus, the son of Timaeus, sat by the highwayside begging.

01:45:09.200 --> 01:45:15.360
And when he noticed this heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out and say,

01:45:15.360 --> 01:45:20.720
Jesus, thou son of David, have mercy on me. This right here is just too good to pass up.

01:45:20.720 --> 01:45:28.160
This is a great picture of salvation because the unsaved, they are like a blind man. They can't see

01:45:28.160 --> 01:45:32.640
they're not going to be able to understand salvation, the spiritual things of the Bible.

01:45:32.640 --> 01:45:34.400
What they have to do is hear.

01:45:35.300 --> 01:45:39.260
faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the word of God.

01:45:39.260 --> 01:45:41.020
This man is blind, but it says,

01:45:41.020 --> 01:45:44.060
and when he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth,

01:45:44.060 --> 01:45:46.900
notice this, he began to cry out.

01:45:46.900 --> 01:45:47.820
You know what that is?

01:45:47.820 --> 01:45:49.420
Calling upon the name of the Lord.

01:45:49.420 --> 01:45:50.980
Just real quickly, this is too good to pass up,

01:45:50.980 --> 01:45:53.380
Romans chapter 10, Romans chapter number 10.

01:45:53.380 --> 01:45:56.740
Hey, this man's blind, picturing someone that's not saved.

01:45:56.740 --> 01:46:00.300
He can't save himself, he can't make himself not blind,

01:46:00.300 --> 01:46:02.260
but he hears Jesus.

01:46:02.900 --> 01:46:05.200
Romans 10, look at verse 13,

01:46:05.200 --> 01:46:07.800
for whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord

01:46:07.800 --> 01:46:08.740
shall be saved.

01:46:08.740 --> 01:46:11.240
This man ends up having his blindness restored,

01:46:11.240 --> 01:46:13.080
having his vision restored.

01:46:13.080 --> 01:46:13.980
And you know why that happened?

01:46:13.980 --> 01:46:16.040
It's because he called out to Jesus.

01:46:16.040 --> 01:46:17.780
Right, so that's salvation.

01:46:17.780 --> 01:46:20.020
The moment of salvation is calling upon the name of the Lord.

01:46:20.020 --> 01:46:23.660
Then the Bible gives us like a backtrack of this process.

01:46:23.660 --> 01:46:27.960
Okay, it says, and how then shall they call on him

01:46:27.960 --> 01:46:29.620
in whom they have not believed?

01:46:30.100 --> 01:46:34.420
And how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard?

01:46:34.420 --> 01:46:37.860
And how shall they hear without a preacher?

01:46:38.500 --> 01:46:41.060
How shall they preach except they be sent as it is written?

01:46:41.060 --> 01:46:45.140
How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace and bring glad tidings of

01:46:45.140 --> 01:46:50.260
good things. And so verse 17, so then faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the word of God.

01:46:50.260 --> 01:46:52.100
Go back to Mark chapter number 10. So that's what's happening.

01:46:52.100 --> 01:46:55.860
This is a picture of exactly what happens when we go soul winning. We have a preacher.

01:46:56.300 --> 01:47:01.040
A preacher shows up and he preaches the word of God and someone decides that they want

01:47:01.040 --> 01:47:03.880
to put their faith in Jesus Christ and how do they do that?

01:47:03.880 --> 01:47:06.340
They do that by calling upon the name of the Lord.

01:47:06.340 --> 01:47:09.180
This man heard, oh Jesus is here, what did he do?

01:47:09.180 --> 01:47:10.180
He called out.

01:47:10.180 --> 01:47:11.540
He called out to Jesus.

01:47:12.100 --> 01:47:16.020
And notice what he called out. He said Jesus thou son of David have

01:47:16.740 --> 01:47:22.100
Mercy on me, right? So he doesn't think he's good. He's not the rich young ruler. He's saying hey god

01:47:22.100 --> 01:47:25.140
I want you to give me mercy. You know what that means? Hey, I'm a sinner

01:47:25.940 --> 01:47:31.640
You know some people they have issues in their life and they want to blame god and that's a wicked attitude

01:47:32.400 --> 01:47:38.100
Wicked attitude. I mean this man is blind right some people would just be so down in the dumps

01:47:38.100 --> 01:47:41.500
They'd be so complaining. They'd be so charging God, but you know this man is blind

01:47:41.500 --> 01:47:44.900
And you know what when he heard about Jesus he said show mercy on me

01:47:44.900 --> 01:47:51.160
He doesn't say why did you make me blind couldn't you have made me not be blind God you you could have done something about this

01:47:51.160 --> 01:47:54.020
He's just like hey, I deserve it. I deserve it. I need mercy God

01:47:54.400 --> 01:47:57.560
That's the attitude that we should have and that's the attitude that's going to lead to

01:47:57.560 --> 01:48:00.640
someone getting saved is begging for mercy, wanting mercy.

01:48:00.640 --> 01:48:05.280
And many charged him that he should hold his peace, but he cried the more great deal, now

01:48:05.280 --> 01:48:07.920
son of David have mercy on me.

01:48:07.920 --> 01:48:10.560
Don't ever let people discourage you from seeking Christ.

01:48:10.560 --> 01:48:13.560
If you're like, oh, stop calling out to Jesus.

01:48:13.560 --> 01:48:15.240
It's like, don't listen to those people.

01:48:15.240 --> 01:48:17.160
Don't listen to the naysayers.

01:48:17.160 --> 01:48:19.160
And Jesus stood still.

01:48:19.600 --> 01:48:21.600
and commanded him to be called.

01:48:21.600 --> 01:48:23.360
And they called the blind man, saying unto him,

01:48:23.360 --> 01:48:26.320
Be of good comfort, rise, he calleth thee.

01:48:26.320 --> 01:48:29.520
And he, casting away his garment, rose and came to Jesus.

01:48:29.520 --> 01:48:31.120
And Jesus answered and said unto him,

01:48:31.120 --> 01:48:33.600
What wilt thou that I should do unto thee?

01:48:33.600 --> 01:48:35.440
The blind man said unto him, Lord,

01:48:35.440 --> 01:48:37.920
that I might receive my sight.

01:48:37.920 --> 01:48:41.440
And Jesus said unto him, Go thy way, thy faith hath made thee whole.

01:48:41.440 --> 01:48:43.760
And immediately he received his sight.

01:48:44.200 --> 01:48:49.880
and followed Jesus in the way. I love how this chapter ends because you know what this whole

01:48:49.880 --> 01:48:52.920
chapter has been? It's the road to Jerusalem.

01:48:53.300 --> 01:48:58.020
We have all these different audiences that are interacting with Jesus. First, it's the Pharisees.

01:48:58.020 --> 01:49:02.820
Did they follow Jesus? No, they wanted to catch him in his words. No, they wanted to ask an

01:49:02.820 --> 01:49:07.700
insincere question about divorce. They wanted to tempt him. They didn't end up following Jesus.

01:49:07.700 --> 01:49:11.860
And of course, what were they? The religious Jews who thought they were righteous, who were

01:49:11.860 --> 01:49:16.100
trusting in themselves. And so they didn't get saved and they did sure didn't follow Jesus.

01:49:16.100 --> 01:49:21.300
Right. Then we have even the disciples having a bad attitude when children are brought to Jesus.

01:49:21.300 --> 01:49:25.460
Jesus, and they rebuke people for bringing children to Jesus.

01:49:25.460 --> 01:49:29.700
Then you have the rich young man and he's, oh good master, what do I have to do to be

01:49:29.700 --> 01:49:30.700
saved?

01:49:30.700 --> 01:49:32.780
Oh, all these things have I kept for my youth up.

01:49:32.780 --> 01:49:34.180
He, did he follow Jesus?

01:49:34.180 --> 01:49:35.860
Nah, he went away, departed.

01:49:36.200 --> 01:49:38.040
He went away sad.

01:49:38.040 --> 01:49:40.040
And then it ends with this man right here,

01:49:40.040 --> 01:49:43.840
this humble man, this blind man, asking for mercy.

01:49:43.840 --> 01:49:44.680
And you know what?

01:49:44.680 --> 01:49:46.380
He's the one who got mercy.

01:49:46.380 --> 01:49:49.520
He's the one whose faith made him whole.

01:49:49.520 --> 01:49:51.220
And he's the one who ultimately, what?

01:49:51.220 --> 01:49:53.760
Followed Jesus Christ.

01:49:53.760 --> 01:49:55.920
This is who we're looking for in this world.

01:49:55.920 --> 01:49:58.500
We're looking at people not who can see,

01:49:58.500 --> 01:50:01.160
because people who think they can see can't really see.

01:50:01.160 --> 01:50:02.360
You know, we're looking for those who say,

01:50:02.360 --> 01:50:03.400
hey, I'm blind.

01:50:04.100 --> 01:50:07.860
I don't know. Don't you love when you go soul hunting and there's like, I don't know if I'm saved.

01:50:08.580 --> 01:50:12.820
Can I show you? Yeah, I have no idea what the Bible says it takes to get to heaven. Can I show you?

01:50:12.820 --> 01:50:16.500
You know that when someone has that attitude, it's pretty much a guarantee that person's going to

01:50:16.500 --> 01:50:20.820
get saved. It's pretty much a guarantee because you know that's the people that we're looking for

01:50:20.820 --> 01:50:25.780
in this world. Let me tell you what, the people that Jesus is looking for to follow him in the way

01:50:25.780 --> 01:50:28.500
are the same type of people, humble people.

01:50:29.500 --> 01:50:32.800
Be careful. Okay, look. Okay, you're saved. Great.

01:50:32.800 --> 01:50:35.800
I'm glad you're saved. Be careful about pride.

01:50:36.500 --> 01:50:38.100
Do not become a prideful person.

01:50:38.100 --> 01:50:39.100
Do not start to think like,

01:50:39.100 --> 01:50:40.600
oh, I see everything.

01:50:40.600 --> 01:50:41.800
Oh, I'm so great.

01:50:41.800 --> 01:50:43.600
All these things have I kept.

01:50:43.600 --> 01:50:44.600
I'm so wonderful.

01:50:44.600 --> 01:50:45.500
You know what we are?

01:50:45.500 --> 01:50:49.100
All of us in this room are sinners saved by grace.

01:50:49.100 --> 01:50:50.500
It's like that song that we sing,

01:50:50.500 --> 01:50:53.000
only a sinner saved by grace.

01:50:53.000 --> 01:50:55.500
Hey, if you want to be used by Jesus Christ,

01:50:55.500 --> 01:50:57.400
you need to be blind in a way, right?

01:50:57.400 --> 01:50:59.000
And just say like, hey, I don't know.

01:50:59.000 --> 01:51:01.000
I don't know the right thing in this world.

01:51:01.000 --> 01:51:02.400
I don't know where to go in my life.

01:51:02.400 --> 01:51:04.300
I don't know the right opinions about everything.

01:51:04.500 --> 01:51:06.680
but I know that someone who does.

01:51:06.680 --> 01:51:08.700
Oh, I heard that Jesus is in the way.

01:51:08.700 --> 01:51:10.300
I'm just gonna call out to him.

01:51:10.300 --> 01:51:11.940
I'm just gonna believe what he says.

01:51:11.940 --> 01:51:13.380
I'm just gonna follow what he says.

01:51:13.380 --> 01:51:14.880
Here's who God's ready to use.

01:51:14.880 --> 01:51:16.980
People who are humble,

01:51:16.980 --> 01:51:18.880
people who are ready to call out to him,

01:51:18.880 --> 01:51:21.020
and who's gonna be great in the kingdom of God,

01:51:21.020 --> 01:51:22.660
those that serve other people.

01:51:22.660 --> 01:51:23.580
Let's strive to be that way.

01:51:23.580 --> 01:51:24.420
Let's pray.

01:51:24.420 --> 01:51:26.900
Lord, thank you so much for this great chapter in your word.

01:51:27.200 --> 01:51:31.840
I pray that you would bless the remainder of this evening, the fellowship, our drive home. Keep us safe.

01:51:31.840 --> 01:51:36.080
And God, I just pray that you would continue to open up this great gospel to our hearts

01:51:36.080 --> 01:51:40.080
and help us to learn the lessons you would have us to learn and make application in our

01:51:40.080 --> 01:51:44.160
own life where we need to. We love you very much. And in Jesus name, we pray. Amen.

01:51:52.600 --> 01:51:57.400
For our last hymn this evening, turn if you would to 351.

01:52:04.900 --> 01:52:08.900
P.M. number 351, tell it to Jesus.

01:52:20.100 --> 01:52:25.100
351, tell it to Jesus.

01:52:28.900 --> 01:52:30.900
351 let's sing together.

01:52:50.900 --> 01:53:00.500
Tell it to Jesus, tell it to Jesus He is a friend that's well known

01:53:00.500 --> 01:53:09.620
You've no other such a friend or brother Tell it to Jesus alone

01:53:10.200 --> 01:53:15.160
Do the tears flow down your cheeks unbidden?

01:53:15.160 --> 01:53:20.040
Tell it to Jesus, tell it to Jesus

01:53:20.040 --> 01:53:24.840
Abuse sins that humans' eyes are hidden

01:53:24.840 --> 01:53:29.080
Tell it to Jesus alone

01:53:29.500 --> 01:53:39.100
Tell it to Jesus, tell it to Jesus He is a friend that's well known

01:53:39.100 --> 01:53:47.980
You've no other such a friend or brother Tell it to Jesus alone

01:53:48.700 --> 01:53:53.500
Do you fear the gathering clouds of sorrow?

01:53:53.500 --> 01:53:58.300
Tell it to Jesus, tell it to Jesus

01:53:58.300 --> 01:54:03.100
For you ain't just what shall be tomorrow

01:54:03.100 --> 01:54:07.900
Tell it to Jesus alone

01:54:07.900 --> 01:54:12.700
Tell it to Jesus, tell it to Jesus

01:54:12.700 --> 01:54:16.700
He is a friend that's well known

01:54:16.700 --> 01:54:22.220
You've no other such a friend or brother,

01:54:22.220 --> 01:54:26.220
Tell it to Jesus alone.

01:54:27.200 --> 01:54:32.160
Are you troubled at the thought of dying?

01:54:32.160 --> 01:54:37.040
Tell it to Jesus, tell it to Jesus

01:54:37.040 --> 01:54:41.840
For Christ's coming kingdom are you sighing?

01:54:41.840 --> 01:54:46.160
Tell it to Jesus alone

01:54:46.600 --> 01:54:51.400
Tell it to Jesus, tell it to Jesus.

01:54:51.400 --> 01:54:56.200
He is a friend that's well known.

01:54:56.200 --> 01:55:01.000
You've no other such a friend or brother.

01:55:01.000 --> 01:55:05.600
Tell it to Jesus alone.

01:55:05.600 --> 01:55:07.000
