WEBVTT

16:30.500 --> 16:33.940
Welcome to anchor Baptist Church. It is time to go ahead and get started

16:33.940 --> 16:38.200
If you would grab a hymnal and turn to him number 158

16:39.940 --> 16:45.820
Him number 158 158 oh for a thousand tongues to sing

16:52.000 --> 16:56.720
158 there on that first verse.

16:56.720 --> 17:00.880
Oh, for a thousand tongues to sing,

17:00.880 --> 17:05.720
my great, great Jesus prays,

17:05.720 --> 17:07.720
O, Mary's love.

18:27.200 --> 18:27.900
prayer.

18:28.700 --> 18:33.180
Heavenly Father, we thank you for this day and the opportunity to gather together once again,

18:33.180 --> 18:37.420
to sing praises under your name, to hear preaching from your word. Lord, I just want to also take a

18:37.420 --> 18:43.020
moment to thank you for the great success we had out, soul winning yesterday for all the soul

18:43.020 --> 18:47.020
winners that showed up, as well as all the salvations that were had and the seeds that were

18:47.020 --> 18:52.700
planted. Lord, we just thank you for the opportunity to be fellow laborers in the harvest. For this

18:52.700 --> 18:56.620
service, Lord, I just pray that you'd be with us, that everything's done decently and in order, that you open

18:56.700 --> 18:59.860
our ears to the message and that you fill pasture with your spirit. These

18:59.860 --> 19:06.620
things we pray in Jesus name, Amen. For our next hymn number 183, Oh How I Love

19:06.620 --> 19:15.400
Jesus. Hymn number 183, 183, Oh How I Love Jesus.

19:20.500 --> 19:23.500
183 let's sing it out all together

21:43.300 --> 21:47.380
you this morning. At this time we'll go through our announcements. So if you don't have a

21:47.380 --> 21:52.400
bulletin raise your hand and Usher can go ahead and bring you one there. On the front

21:52.400 --> 21:58.300
we have our updated Bible verse of the week for memorization. That is 2 Timothy chapter

21:58.300 --> 22:04.780
number 2 verse 9. So keep working on this chapter. On the inside you'll see our service

22:04.780 --> 22:11.300
times are listed there. Sunday morning at 1030, evening at 430, and our Wednesday

22:11.300 --> 22:15.040
Wednesday Bible study through Mark at 7 o'clock.

22:15.040 --> 22:19.540
Below that we have all of our church-wide soul winning times.

22:19.540 --> 22:24.460
And just an update to the ladies time, it's no longer going to be meeting here at the

22:24.460 --> 22:25.500
church.

22:25.500 --> 22:29.440
So there will be an address sent out in the signal group by Ms. Nikki.

22:29.440 --> 22:31.240
And so be watching for that.

22:31.240 --> 22:34.980
So now it's going to be Sundays and Wednesdays meeting here at the church.

22:34.980 --> 22:37.580
Tuesdays and Saturdays meet on location.

22:37.580 --> 22:38.780
So keep that in mind.

22:39.200 --> 22:45.420
Below we have our year-to-date soul winning statistics for the US also for the Philippines

22:45.860 --> 22:52.260
Bringing us to 1323 for the year so great job so far this year with soul winning

22:52.420 --> 23:00.100
Then we also have our online visitor card as well as our online giving information and our prayer list

23:00.100 --> 23:03.780
There was an updated prayer request from miss Ashley Dickens

23:03.780 --> 23:07.000
So keep that in mind and as always if you have any

23:07.200 --> 23:12.960
requests, please do email the church and we'll add that for you. Also on the back,

23:12.960 --> 23:17.640
I just want to say thank you to all those who participated in or prayed for

23:17.640 --> 23:21.300
the soul winning marathon yesterday. Shawnee was very, very receptive.

23:21.300 --> 23:26.780
It was a really great time and if you've never been on these soul winning marathons, it's not just soul winning

23:26.780 --> 23:30.980
It's also a great time of fellowship hanging out with each other. And so it was a really great time

23:31.100 --> 23:35.120
We ended up having 26 soul winners and 18 salvations

23:35.120 --> 23:38.800
So definitely very receptive area and I had a great time

23:39.420 --> 23:47.080
We do have our upcoming events there this upcoming next Sunday, August 23rd will be the men's preaching night

23:47.080 --> 23:49.080
Make sure you sign up on the sign-up sheet

23:49.300 --> 23:51.300
back there if you want to participate.

23:51.300 --> 23:54.080
And please do indicate your sermon topic

23:54.080 --> 23:56.320
that you're going to be preaching about.

23:56.320 --> 23:59.840
September 19th is going to be our next soul-winding marathon

23:59.840 --> 24:04.320
in Pawhuska, and that is the Osage Indian territory.

24:04.320 --> 24:06.440
It's kind of a famed, or I would say infamous,

24:06.440 --> 24:08.560
town as far as Indian history goes.

24:08.560 --> 24:11.380
And so I'm really looking forward to visiting that place

24:11.380 --> 24:14.760
and preaching the gospel there to the Osage Indians.

24:14.760 --> 24:15.000
Thanks for watching!

24:15.000 --> 24:21.360
Then we have October 10th is our next soul winning marathon after that I should say.

24:21.360 --> 24:24.040
And that's going to be in Joplin, Missouri.

24:24.040 --> 24:27.080
And again we're teaming up with two other churches to do this.

24:27.080 --> 24:32.680
Kansas City Baptist Church and Straight Paths Baptist Church in St. Louis, Missouri.

24:32.680 --> 24:36.920
So we're all going to come together in Joplin, Missouri for a big soul winning marathon.

24:36.920 --> 24:39.400
sure to participate in that if you can.

24:39.600 --> 24:46.160
Then October 24th is going to be just a great fellowship day the or family farm on a Saturday

24:46.160 --> 24:50.140
And that's just an all-day event lots of fun looking forward to that

24:50.600 --> 24:58.080
October 31st is the chili cook-off or annual chili cook-off and that is on I want to say Saturday this year keep that in mind

24:58.700 --> 25:04.580
Then November 7th is the Enid Oklahoma soul winning marathon very receptive area

25:04.580 --> 25:09.500
So looking forward to our upcoming events. That's going to be it for announcements this morning

25:09.500 --> 25:11.500
Let's go ahead and go to our third song together

25:15.100 --> 25:19.980
For our third song, turn if you would to 405.

25:19.980 --> 25:28.260
Pym number 405, 405, the banner of the cross.

25:28.260 --> 25:28.760
us.

25:37.400 --> 25:40.400
405, let's sing it out all together.

25:40.400 --> 25:47.400
There's a royal banner, given for display to the soldiers.

28:18.800 --> 28:21.120
as the offering plates are being passed,

28:21.120 --> 28:25.200
turn if you would to Psalm 149.

28:25.200 --> 28:27.900
Psalm 149.

28:59.700 --> 29:07.200
Psalm 149, Praise ye the LORD, sing unto the LORD a new song, and his praise in the congregation of saints.

29:07.200 --> 29:13.200
Let Israel rejoice in him that made him. Let the children of Zion be joyful in their king.

29:13.200 --> 29:18.200
Let them praise his name in the dance. Let them sing praises unto him with the timbrel and harp.

29:18.200 --> 29:23.200
For the LORD taketh pleasure in his people. He will beautify the meek with salvation.

29:23.300 --> 29:27.780
Let the saints be joyful in glory. Let them sing aloud upon their beds.

29:27.780 --> 29:33.060
Let the high praises of God be in their mouths, and a two-edged sword in their hands,

29:33.060 --> 29:37.380
to execute vengeance upon the heathen and punishments upon the people,

29:37.380 --> 29:41.220
to bind their kings with chains and their nobles with fetters of iron,

29:41.220 --> 29:47.220
to execute upon them the judgment written. This honor have all His saints. Praise you the Lord.

29:47.220 --> 29:51.220
Let's pray. Your heavenly father, thank you for the great soul-willing marathon.

29:51.300 --> 29:56.020
today I pray that you'd fill Pastor Oz with your spirit, help him to preach an edifying

29:56.020 --> 30:01.020
sermon for us this morning and help us to receive it. Amen.

30:31.500 --> 30:36.620
and just the activities that we do as Christians. This is an area of life that's very important

30:36.620 --> 30:42.620
that we should give a lot of heed to. The title of my sermon is this Biblical Principles for Music.

30:43.420 --> 30:50.220
Biblical Principles for Music. Just like every other topic that we approach in life,

30:50.220 --> 30:56.700
we should base our standards, our opinions, our doctrines off of what the Bible teaches.

30:57.200 --> 31:01.280
And the Bible does teach a lot about music.

31:01.280 --> 31:06.760
And I'm here this morning to give our church a Biblical perspective on music because of

31:06.760 --> 31:12.880
the fact that I believe that there's been some unbiblical extremes on both sides of

31:12.880 --> 31:15.680
the spectrum on this topic.

31:15.680 --> 31:21.160
On one hand, you have the more ultra conservative side of music that I've heard pastors say

31:21.160 --> 31:24.000
things like, minor chords are simple.

31:24.200 --> 31:26.620
which is just like, what are you talking about?

31:26.620 --> 31:30.600
Like our hymnal is literally full of minor chords,

31:30.600 --> 31:34.280
or these dork, you know, redneck pastors talking about,

31:34.280 --> 31:37.020
you know, gotta watch out for those triads.

31:37.020 --> 31:38.680
It's like, bro, that's just a chord.

31:38.680 --> 31:41.320
Like, you don't even know what you're talking about, right?

31:41.320 --> 31:44.480
So you got just this extreme on one side of things,

31:44.480 --> 31:47.780
just acting like certain notes are sinful,

31:47.780 --> 31:49.620
certain instruments are sinful.

31:49.900 --> 31:51.500
That's not what the Bible teaches.

31:51.500 --> 31:55.660
Then I think you've got the ultra-liberal permissive side of things that just wants

31:55.660 --> 32:01.220
to pretend like music is just completely morally ambivalent and you know what, all worldly

32:01.220 --> 32:05.660
music is just on the table and we just shouldn't even have any standards for music.

32:05.660 --> 32:09.180
And you know what, I would submit to you that's not a Christian view either.

32:09.180 --> 32:11.500
That is not a biblical view either.

32:11.500 --> 32:15.660
So I'm going to give you what the Bible teaches, but you know the Bible always gives us a very

32:15.660 --> 32:17.300
balanced view on things.

32:17.300 --> 32:17.900
this world is

32:17.900 --> 32:20.340
is the one having the extreme opinions.

32:20.340 --> 32:23.580
And the Bible actually gives a pretty balanced opinion.

32:23.580 --> 32:27.740
So because of that, balanced views often pisses everyone off.

32:27.740 --> 32:29.940
And so if I piss everyone off this morning,

32:29.940 --> 32:32.140
then I've probably done my job as a preacher.

32:35.000 --> 32:39.800
I'll give you what the Bible teaches as far as the Bible's principles for music,

32:39.800 --> 32:45.800
then I'm going to explain to you how I come to my own personal standards for music.

32:45.800 --> 32:48.300
Now you've got to obviously realize there's a difference between these things.

32:48.300 --> 32:49.400
What is the standard?

32:49.400 --> 32:55.600
It's I'm looking at biblical principles, and then I'm coming to my own personal preferences, ideas.

32:55.600 --> 33:00.800
And you know, as Christians, we all come to a little bit different standards in life, and that is fine.

33:01.000 --> 33:06.480
But before I give you my standards and our church's standards, first I just want to lay

33:06.480 --> 33:09.640
down what does the Bible teach about music, okay?

33:09.640 --> 33:10.640
Number one...

33:10.800 --> 33:14.500
Music is an essential part of the Christian life.

33:14.500 --> 33:19.200
Let's just lay down that foundation that music is essential,

33:19.200 --> 33:21.500
is an essential part of the Christian life.

33:21.500 --> 33:24.500
Look at Psalm 149 verse 1. It says,

33:24.500 --> 33:27.200
Praise ye the Lord. How do we do that?

33:27.200 --> 33:32.400
Notice this word, sing unto the Lord a new song

33:32.400 --> 33:36.800
and his praise, notice, in the congregation of saints.

33:37.000 --> 33:46.200
So singing is actually a command of God. Right? So just like the Bible commands us to pray,

33:46.200 --> 33:51.800
to study His Word, to go to church, to preach the gospel, to abstain from sin,

33:51.800 --> 33:57.480
from breaking God's commandments, another commandment is to sing. It is God's commandment

33:57.480 --> 34:03.400
to sing and specifically singing where? In the congregation of saints.

34:03.900 --> 34:09.900
So some people want to argue like, you know, is it really a sin to not go to church?

34:09.900 --> 34:13.900
Well how are you going to fulfill this command if you're not in church?

34:13.900 --> 34:15.900
Because the Bible says that you must sing where?

34:15.900 --> 34:17.900
In the congregation of saints.

34:18.600 --> 34:23.160
So, I can prove that not going to church is a sin from many different verses, but here's

34:23.160 --> 34:26.840
one way I can prove it, is that if you're not going to church, you can't be singing

34:26.840 --> 34:27.840
in the congregation of saints.

34:27.840 --> 34:28.840
That would be a sin.

34:28.840 --> 34:35.480
Also, if you're coming to church and you're not singing with the congregation of the saints,

34:35.480 --> 34:36.640
you are sinning.

34:36.640 --> 34:40.160
You are not right with God because the Bible commands us to do so.

34:40.800 --> 34:49.200
Okay, look at verse number six. It says this, let the high praises of God, notice, be in their mouth.

34:49.920 --> 34:55.920
And a two-edged sword in their hand. So when it comes to praising God and singing unto God,

34:55.920 --> 35:00.300
God's emphasis is that His praises should be in our mouth.

35:00.500 --> 35:06.100
So the Bible does not emphasize, hey, you need to just listen to God in the music.

35:06.100 --> 35:09.500
Sit back and just listen to someone sing music.

35:09.500 --> 35:11.420
You are supposed to be participating.

35:11.420 --> 35:14.500
The praise of God should be in your mouth.

35:14.500 --> 35:17.820
This is why in our church, we don't have all these specials, right?

35:17.820 --> 35:23.460
Where a lot of churches, they'll bring up the college kids and the college kids will

35:23.460 --> 35:27.500
come up and do some sort of special and everyone's just listening to them.

35:27.500 --> 35:28.500
Look, I'm not saying...

35:28.500 --> 35:31.860
church is bad and they do something like that but we don't do that because of the

35:31.860 --> 35:35.660
fact that we believe the praises of God should be in all our mountains that we

35:35.660 --> 35:39.700
should be singing together and you know I didn't like going to churches where

35:39.700 --> 35:43.780
you know they're singing this hymn or the spiritual song and we got to sit

35:43.780 --> 35:48.380
there and watch like I wanted to partake I wanted to sing unto the Lord and it

35:48.380 --> 35:52.100
wasn't just it just didn't feel right to listen to someone else singing

35:59.600 --> 36:00.600
Roman's tap number 6.

36:01.800 --> 36:04.600
You can make all the excuses you want in the world.

36:04.600 --> 36:06.000
You don't like your voice.

36:06.000 --> 36:07.400
You don't like to sing.

36:07.400 --> 36:09.000
You don't like this. You don't like that.

36:09.000 --> 36:13.300
But at the end of the day, I'm here to tell you, singing is a commandment of God.

36:13.300 --> 36:17.200
And if you are not singing praises to God in the congregation,

36:17.200 --> 36:18.400
you are in sin.

36:18.400 --> 36:19.800
You are not right with God.

36:19.800 --> 36:21.500
You are breaking God's commandments.

36:21.500 --> 36:22.100
Right.

36:22.100 --> 36:26.600
And it's just weird why you would come to God's house to break His commandments.

36:26.600 --> 36:29.800
Like you would think this would be the place where you're getting more spiritual, where you're...

36:29.800 --> 36:34.600
God's commandments, but you know what? People that just sit there, stone-faced, not singing

36:34.600 --> 36:39.040
out, that person is for sure not building the spirit. They are breaking God's commandments.

36:39.040 --> 36:44.480
They are not writing to God. They need to sing out. Look at Romans 6 verse 12. The Bible

36:44.480 --> 36:50.040
says, Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the

36:50.040 --> 36:57.040
lusts thereof. Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin.

36:57.800 --> 37:03.120
but yield yourselves unto God as those that are alive from the dead.

37:03.120 --> 37:04.120
Notice this.

37:04.120 --> 37:10.120
And your instruments or your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.

37:10.120 --> 37:11.120
Right?

37:11.120 --> 37:16.560
So we have this body that God has blessed us with and we get to choose how we use our

37:16.560 --> 37:17.560
members.

37:17.560 --> 37:18.560
Right?

37:18.560 --> 37:21.800
People could use their hands to minister unto the saints.

37:22.200 --> 37:28.760
People could use their hands to kill someone. People could use their feet to go preach the gospel or

38:28.000 --> 38:32.120
and he's given us eternal security, and he's given us his Holy Spirit, and he's given us

38:32.120 --> 38:35.840
his Word, and he's given us the Church, and he's given us so many blessings.

38:35.840 --> 38:39.360
I mean, I think that the Lord is worthy of us singing praise to him.

38:39.360 --> 38:45.240
And it just shows a bad heart when someone's not willing to sing out and praise God.

38:45.240 --> 38:48.240
Go back to Psalm 149.

38:48.240 --> 38:50.240
Psalm 149, look at verse 1.

38:50.240 --> 38:53.720
The Bible says, Praise ye the Lord, sing unto the Lord.

38:53.720 --> 38:55.720
Notice a new song.

38:56.300 --> 39:02.380
His praise in the congregation of saints. There's nothing wrong with a new song

39:02.900 --> 39:08.540
Now does that mean that every new song is pleasing to God? Of course not, right?

39:08.540 --> 39:12.500
There's new songs pumped out in this world all the time. That's not pleasing to God

39:12.540 --> 39:19.020
But should we just say, you know thus saith the Lord the only songs that God takes pleasure in are songs written in the

39:19.340 --> 39:24.020
1600s and 1700s and 1800s, you know, can someone just dogmatic you say that

39:24.300 --> 39:25.300
Absolutely not.

39:25.300 --> 39:26.300
Right.

39:26.300 --> 39:28.300
Because the Bible says we are to sing unto the Lord a new song.

39:28.300 --> 39:33.300
And you've got to remember that the songs in our hymnal were all new at one point.

39:33.300 --> 39:36.300
They were all cutting edge and fresh off the press.

39:36.300 --> 39:38.300
It was brand new songs at one point.

39:38.300 --> 39:39.300
But you know what?

39:39.300 --> 39:42.300
Those songs though are pleasing unto God.

39:42.300 --> 39:47.300
And so there's nothing wrong with a new song so long as it's a song that's honoring unto

39:47.300 --> 39:48.300
the Lord.

39:48.300 --> 39:49.300
Right.

39:49.300 --> 39:51.300
So there's nothing wrong with a new song.

39:51.300 --> 39:52.100
There's three.

39:52.400 --> 39:56.900
The Bible says, let them praise his name in the dance.

39:56.900 --> 39:59.400
Let's switch topics for a minute.

39:59.400 --> 40:00.900
Let's talk about dancing.

40:00.900 --> 40:04.900
Can a preacher say, thus saith the Lord, all dancing is wrong?

40:05.400 --> 40:06.680
Absolutely not.

40:06.680 --> 40:10.600
Because the Bible is literally saying to praise the Lord in a dance.

40:10.600 --> 40:15.720
But what's the difference between, you know, this world's dancing and dancing unto the Lord?

40:15.720 --> 40:20.040
Well, I may not be able to exactly describe to you the different types of dances,

40:20.040 --> 40:23.400
but one is coming from a heart of wanting to please God,

40:23.400 --> 40:25.880
is rejoicing over the things that God has done.

40:25.880 --> 40:31.080
I mean, Daniel, or I'm sorry, David is like dancing all his might out to the Lord.

40:31.080 --> 40:33.400
You know, this is different though than the world's dancing.

40:33.400 --> 40:38.400
Like, just because dancing is in the Bible, are we going to say all dancing is fine?

40:38.400 --> 40:40.400
Okay, so we can praise the Lord of the dance.

40:40.400 --> 40:43.400
So the dancing that goes on in the night clubs is fine.

40:44.000 --> 40:47.280
So the dances that the pop stars of this world is doing is fine.

40:47.280 --> 40:50.400
Wouldn't that be a ridiculous standard to come to?

40:50.400 --> 40:53.920
So it's like, just because we say, hey, new songs are okay,

40:53.920 --> 40:55.520
as long as they're freezing, please the Lord.

40:55.520 --> 40:59.360
Therefore, just all music in this world is just totally fine and totally good.

40:59.360 --> 41:01.680
Wouldn't that be a ridiculous standard to also come to?

41:02.320 --> 41:03.760
Okay, here it goes.

41:03.760 --> 41:05.760
It says, let them praise his name in the dance.

41:06.600 --> 41:12.600
Let them sing phrases unto him, notice, with the timbrel and harp.

41:13.100 --> 41:18.460
for the Lord take it pleasure in his people he will beautify the meat of salvation okay let's

41:18.460 --> 41:24.300
talk about instruments there's nothing wrong with instruments right there's nothing wrong

41:24.300 --> 41:29.340
with praising God with different types of instruments in fact this is a command of God

41:29.340 --> 41:34.460
right here it says let them sing praises unto him with the temporal and heart and yet you have an

41:34.460 --> 41:40.860
entire you know Christian denomination today called the church of Christ yep that literally

41:41.100 --> 41:47.500
it is a sin to have musical instruments in church, which is absolutely asinine.

41:47.500 --> 41:52.860
That is a crazy doctrine. The Bible says, hey, let them sing phrases unto him.

41:52.860 --> 41:57.400
Notice with timbrel and harp. What is a timbrel?

41:57.600 --> 42:01.040
A timbrel is a tambourine or similar instrument.

42:01.040 --> 42:02.320
Right. What's a tambourine?

42:02.320 --> 42:08.560
A tambourine is a small drum consisting of a circular frame with a skin stretched over it

42:08.560 --> 42:14.720
and several pairs of metal jingles attached to the frame played by striking with the knuckles,

42:14.720 --> 42:16.400
shaking and the like.

42:16.400 --> 42:21.760
Okay, so again, can a creature get up and be right with his Bible?

42:21.760 --> 42:25.280
And dogmatic say, thus saith the Lord, all drums are of the devil.

42:25.800 --> 42:28.200
All percussion instruments are of the devil.

42:28.200 --> 42:28.700
No.

42:28.700 --> 42:29.200
No.

42:29.200 --> 42:31.800
Okay, and so look, already just in this intro,

42:31.800 --> 42:35.400
I've probably pissed off, you know, the vast majority of christened us.

42:35.800 --> 42:39.320
Because you got people that are so extreme on one side or the other where they're like,

42:39.320 --> 42:43.640
you know, all drums are wicked, this certain type of musical instrument is wicked,

42:43.640 --> 42:47.160
you know, a new song is wicked, a certain sound is wicked.

42:47.160 --> 42:52.360
Then you got people just saying like, all music is great and all worldly music is wonderful.

42:52.360 --> 42:55.160
And I'm here to tell you that both of those views are wrong.

42:55.160 --> 42:55.880
Right.

42:55.880 --> 42:58.280
Those views are wrong.

42:58.280 --> 42:59.480
Psalm 150.

43:01.000 --> 43:02.040
Psalm 150.

43:02.040 --> 43:02.520
Now look.

43:03.000 --> 43:08.200
You can come to a personal standard, you can say, hey, you know, the sound of this world's music,

43:08.200 --> 43:11.480
I don't really want that sound, and so you know what, we're not gonna have drugs in our church

43:11.480 --> 43:15.400
just as a personal preference. People are allowed to have their personal preferences.

43:15.400 --> 43:16.040
Right.

43:16.040 --> 43:21.560
But if another church, you know, I've seen IFD churches have like a snare drum to sound like,

43:21.560 --> 43:26.120
you know, a war type drum. Can I just say like that church is wicked as hell for having that?

43:26.120 --> 43:26.840
No, it's not.

43:27.300 --> 43:31.300
Like, why would I take them apart for something that the Bible does not condemn?

43:31.300 --> 43:35.300
You know, if they're preaching the gospel, if they're preaching hard on sin, if they're king-tains only,

43:35.300 --> 43:40.300
if they're doing the work of God, hey, I may not agree necessarily with that, but am I going to judge them for that?

43:40.300 --> 43:43.800
I am not going to judge them for that. I'm not going to say anything about that whatsoever.

43:43.800 --> 43:47.300
Does that mean that I have to have drones in my church? No, we're not going to.

43:47.300 --> 43:51.200
And that is my personal preference. Okay, Psalm 150.

43:51.500 --> 43:52.500
Look at verse 4.

43:52.500 --> 43:54.740
Praise him with the timbrel and dance.

43:54.740 --> 43:59.140
Praise him, notice, with strength, instruments, and order.

43:59.140 --> 44:00.140
Has it been off this whole time?

44:00.140 --> 44:00.640
No.

44:00.640 --> 44:02.140
Well, we've got the timbrel.

44:02.140 --> 44:02.900
OK.

44:09.000 --> 44:09.800
It's beautiful.

44:12.100 --> 44:16.900
Okay, so Psalm 150, sorry about that, let me get some populated here.

44:18.900 --> 44:24.820
Psalm 150 verse number four it says, praise him, notice the last part of that verse, praise him,

44:24.820 --> 44:31.220
notice with stringed instruments and organs. So again, this idea of, oh, you can't have

44:31.220 --> 44:34.740
instruments in church, the Bible saying, praise God with stringed instruments.

44:35.300 --> 44:36.660
And you know what we have at our church?

44:36.660 --> 44:40.140
We have two stringed instruments, a piano and a guitar.

44:40.140 --> 44:41.260
And even the piano is a little bit

44:41.260 --> 44:42.760
of a percussion instrument too,

44:42.760 --> 44:45.980
because you got hammers that are hitting those strings.

44:45.980 --> 44:46.820
And so you know what?

44:46.820 --> 44:48.660
We're just obeying what the Bible says there.

44:48.660 --> 44:51.340
Praise them with stringed instruments and organs.

44:51.340 --> 44:53.900
Go if you would to actually keep your place there.

44:53.900 --> 44:55.380
I'll just read for you.

44:55.380 --> 44:57.220
Psalm 33 verse three says this,

44:57.220 --> 45:01.260
sing unto him a new song, play skillfully.

45:01.400 --> 45:03.600
with a loud noise.

45:03.600 --> 45:05.900
Another attribute of music is that we should be trying

45:05.900 --> 45:10.280
to play and sing as skillfully as possible.

45:10.280 --> 45:12.820
Now that's not to say if someone's not super skilled

45:12.820 --> 45:13.920
that they shouldn't sing.

45:13.920 --> 45:15.320
You absolutely should sing.

45:15.320 --> 45:18.360
You should give your best, all that you have,

45:18.360 --> 45:21.360
but I am for people learning music,

45:21.360 --> 45:25.320
increasing in their skill, maybe getting musical training,

45:25.320 --> 45:28.760
voice training, musical instrument training.

45:28.760 --> 45:29.400
That's great because

45:29.400 --> 45:35.840
Bible says to praise praise him with skill. Okay now look at Psalm 149 verse 5. Here's

45:35.840 --> 45:42.000
another attribute of biblical music. The Bible says this, let the saints be joyful.

45:42.300 --> 45:45.180
Glory let them sing aloud

45:45.900 --> 45:50.660
Upon their beds look this is so important sing with some joy

45:51.220 --> 45:58.260
Sing with some passion act like you actually love God act like you actually are happy that you're saved and here's the thing

45:58.380 --> 46:02.940
There's a danger to where oh, it's okay. We you know we have all the right music standards

46:02.940 --> 46:05.420
We have all the right songs we have the right spirit

46:05.420 --> 46:10.280
We have the right culture, but yet people just aren't singing out and it's dead and then visitors go

46:10.300 --> 46:14.740
to the new evangelical churches, they go to the rock and roll churches, and they seem

46:14.740 --> 46:16.100
to care.

46:16.100 --> 46:18.140
They seem to be feeling something.

46:18.140 --> 46:19.140
They seem to be excited.

46:19.140 --> 46:20.300
And you know what?

46:20.300 --> 46:25.460
That often attracts people because they could tell when a service is just dead.

46:26.000 --> 46:30.460
And you know what, it is dangerous for a church to have all the right music standards, but

46:30.460 --> 46:32.880
to just be dead in spirit and to not care.

46:32.880 --> 46:34.220
And it's like, here's what I want.

46:34.220 --> 46:39.920
I want to have the right songs, the right attitude and the right spirit.

46:39.920 --> 46:41.320
I want to sing.

46:41.320 --> 46:46.200
We are on the winning side and sing like I'm actually on the winning side.

46:46.600 --> 46:53.680
Want to sing praise the Lord praise the Lord let the earth hear his voice and actually act like I'm praising the Lord

46:53.680 --> 47:00.760
I want to sing it as well with my soul and actually sing like it is well with my soul and a lot of people

47:00.760 --> 47:04.560
You know, they're singing the right tunes. But where is the heart like where's the passion?

47:04.560 --> 47:08.040
Where is the energy and it's like you are doing a disservice?

47:08.900 --> 47:13.220
To the fundamental baptist movement who I submit has the right music standards

47:13.700 --> 47:19.620
Has the right method of of worshiping and singing god, but you come to church and it's just dead and they're like man

47:19.620 --> 47:21.620
I'll go to the pentacostal church down the road

47:22.020 --> 47:27.540
I'll go to the new evangelical church down the road with the ccm because they really care about what they're singing

47:28.020 --> 47:31.140
And look that's rough because you go to those churches and yeah

47:31.140 --> 47:34.360
It's real emotional because like all their songs are geared towards women

47:34.800 --> 47:39.320
Like I feel like I can't even participate in it as a man because it's so faggity

47:39.320 --> 47:40.960
I mean, I remember growing up

47:40.960 --> 47:45.560
I only went to church a handful of times literally probably like less than five times in my life

47:45.560 --> 47:48.720
But every time even as a child, I just remember thinking like this is so gay

47:49.900 --> 47:53.400
right because the CCM was just so effeminate

47:53.400 --> 47:58.660
and you got the slow swaying and the hands waving and the rocking back and

47:58.660 --> 47:59.220
forth

47:59.220 --> 48:02.300
and the crying and it's like because these churches are just

48:02.300 --> 48:05.580
geared towards women let's just be honest okay and it's like

48:05.580 --> 48:11.540
we want to have a service where men and women can sing out in praise to the Lord

48:11.540 --> 48:14.680
and you know it's not like effeminate to sing these old-fashioned

48:14.680 --> 48:17.900
songs and hymns you know I think you're effeminate if you're afraid to sing out to God

48:17.900 --> 48:24.020
Is what I think you know you're acting ridiculous now go if you would to Psalm 81. Let's look at several verses here

48:24.620 --> 48:26.620
Psalm 81

48:27.340 --> 48:31.460
Notice it says in verse 1 sing aloud unto God our strength

48:31.740 --> 48:36.060
Make a joyful noise unto the God of Jacob right so joy

48:36.820 --> 48:41.440
Passion energy not like praise the Lord praise the Lord

48:42.300 --> 48:48.340
Let the earth hear his voice. It's just like that's not exactly singing a joyful noise unto God

48:48.540 --> 48:50.540
That's not exactly singing aloud

48:51.180 --> 48:53.180
Okay, look at Psalm 95

48:53.740 --> 48:57.560
Psalm 95 verse 1 Oh come let us sing unto the Lord

48:57.620 --> 49:04.020
Let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation Psalm 98 Psalm chapter 98

49:04.600 --> 49:09.600
Verse 4, make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all the earth.

49:09.600 --> 49:14.600
Make a loud noise and rejoice and sing praise.

49:14.600 --> 49:16.400
Sing unto the Lord with the harp.

49:16.600 --> 49:24.540
With the harp and the voice of a psalm with trumpets and sounds of cornet make a joyful noise before the Lord the king

49:24.880 --> 49:31.580
Psalm 100 look at psalm 100 verse 1 make a joyful noise unto the Lord all ye lands

49:31.880 --> 49:33.400
serve the Lord with

49:33.400 --> 49:40.020
Gladness come before his presence with saying I mean this is just a theme over and over and over

49:40.160 --> 49:45.720
It's just be happy be joyful sing aloud have a good attitude have some passion

49:46.160 --> 49:52.420
Care have joy in your heart, you know because that is what is fitting for our God. I mean, you know, it's funny

49:52.420 --> 49:54.420
He's like you go to college football games

49:54.800 --> 49:59.000
And people in the crowds, they will chant their team's little chant.

49:59.000 --> 50:01.800
They'll chant their heart out and they will scream.

50:01.800 --> 50:06.400
And it's like, go, go, fight big blue, fight, fight BSU.

50:06.400 --> 50:08.100
You know, they're just screaming it out.

50:08.100 --> 50:12.300
And they've got the trumpeters trumpeting and they've got passion and they've got energy.

50:12.300 --> 50:13.500
What's the Florida one?

50:13.500 --> 50:14.600
They'll do the Indian thing.

50:14.600 --> 50:17.100
Oh, right.

50:17.100 --> 50:17.700
They care.

50:17.700 --> 50:19.300
And then people come to church and just do nothing.

50:19.700 --> 50:22.460
And it's like, how hypocritical is it

50:22.460 --> 50:26.820
that you'll go to a sports game, you'll scream, you'll yell,

50:26.820 --> 50:29.680
you'll cheer, you'll jump, you'll clap,

50:29.680 --> 50:30.900
you'll stamp the feet.

50:30.900 --> 50:34.740
You actually have passion about your stupid ball game,

50:34.740 --> 50:37.580
but people don't care about singing out to God.

50:37.580 --> 50:38.500
That's a shame.

50:38.900 --> 50:41.400
Because look, when you go to a college football game

50:41.400 --> 50:44.060
and you see a crowd that has energy

50:44.060 --> 50:45.940
and you see a band that has energy

50:45.940 --> 50:49.000
and people are cheering and people are doing the chants,

50:49.000 --> 50:49.940
you know what it shows?

50:49.940 --> 50:52.520
Man, these people love their team.

50:52.520 --> 50:55.140
Man, these college kids, they love their team.

50:55.140 --> 50:56.540
They're loyal to their team.

50:56.540 --> 50:57.820
They're rooting for their team.

50:57.820 --> 50:59.620
Now, if you've ever been to a game

50:59.620 --> 51:02.340
where one side had the energy and one side didn't,

51:02.340 --> 51:04.480
it's like, ooh, this is rough.

51:04.700 --> 51:06.540
Like, they can't even cheer for their team.

51:06.540 --> 51:08.340
They're kind of ashamed of their team, right?

51:08.340 --> 51:10.660
You've seen those sports fans, like, man, they're so bad,

51:10.660 --> 51:12.340
they're kind of ashamed of their team.

51:12.340 --> 51:14.700
You know, they don't even show out in numbers.

51:14.700 --> 51:15.900
They don't even fill the stadium.

51:15.900 --> 51:17.380
The Oakland A's, right?

51:17.380 --> 51:18.900
You know, back when it was the Oakland A's,

51:18.900 --> 51:20.300
you know, they ended up moving to Las Vegas

51:20.300 --> 51:22.380
because no one would come to the games.

51:22.380 --> 51:24.740
No one had any passion for the A's.

51:24.740 --> 51:25.900
No one would support them.

51:25.900 --> 51:29.300
And it's like, look, we serve the Lord of Hosts.

51:29.300 --> 51:31.260
We serve the King of Kings.

51:31.260 --> 51:32.700
How embarrassing for us.

51:32.700 --> 51:35.260
when it's like Christians don't even care about their own god.

51:36.300 --> 51:40.700
Christians aren't fired up about their own God Christians can't sing out about their own God

51:40.820 --> 51:43.820
Whereas the world will sing out and cry out for their sports teams

51:44.180 --> 51:47.180
False religion will sing out and cry out for their false gods

51:47.340 --> 51:53.420
The pagan Indians will have a little bit of energy at their powwows won't they and it's like what a shame that we as Christians

51:53.620 --> 51:58.420
Often have this reputation of just dead quiet no energy no passion

51:58.420 --> 52:01.460
And again, we are doing ourself a disservice as Baptists

52:02.000 --> 52:07.880
Because of the fact that people are looking for some people that actually have some zeal or care and they're like well the Pentecostals seem

52:07.880 --> 52:13.020
To care well the new evangelicals seem to care and it's like look we as Baptist we have the truth

52:13.020 --> 52:15.500
We have the right doctrine we have the right standards

52:15.540 --> 52:21.280
But if you don't have the right spirit with those standards you are doing the movement a disservice

52:21.740 --> 52:27.420
And I'm just gonna be honest like this is something our churches needs to work on and it's just been you know an issue

52:27.460 --> 52:29.740
For a long time and look I think

52:30.000 --> 52:31.400
that our church is really great,

52:31.400 --> 52:33.640
but everyone has areas where we could work on,

52:33.640 --> 52:34.760
and I think it's gotten better,

52:34.760 --> 52:37.300
but it still needs to improve people participating

52:37.300 --> 52:38.900
and singing out, because you know what?

52:38.900 --> 52:40.080
God is worthy of that.

52:40.080 --> 52:41.480
Yeah.

52:41.480 --> 52:43.040
Okay, go to 1 Samuel chapter 16.

52:43.040 --> 52:43.880
So I said number one,

52:43.880 --> 52:47.200
music is an essential part of the Christian life.

52:48.740 --> 52:50.680
We saw some attributes there.

52:50.680 --> 52:52.600
You gotta be joyful, right?

52:52.600 --> 52:53.880
Musical instruments are great.

52:53.880 --> 52:55.100
You could sing a new song.

52:55.200 --> 53:00.560
But the praise is directed towards god. That's what we're doing is we're praising god. It's not about glorifying ourselves

53:00.880 --> 53:03.040
It's not about listening necessarily to music

53:03.040 --> 53:09.120
It's about god's praise as being in your mouth with the right heart and praise to god number two. Let me say this music

53:09.600 --> 53:11.600
affects your spirit

53:11.840 --> 53:12.800
music

53:12.800 --> 53:15.840
Affects your spirit first samuel 16 verse 14

53:16.560 --> 53:19.120
But the spirit of the lord departed from saul

53:19.600 --> 53:27.240
And notice an evil spirit from the Lord troubled him and Saul's servants said unto him behold now an

53:27.400 --> 53:31.680
Evil spirit from God trouble with thee let our Lord now command thy servants

53:31.680 --> 53:37.360
Which are before thee to seek out a man who is a cunning player on and harp and it shall come to pass

53:37.560 --> 53:42.860
When the evil spirit from God is upon thee that he shall play with his hand and thou shalt be well

53:43.300 --> 53:51.260
verse go to verse 22 and Saul sent to Jesse saying let David I pray thee stand before me for he hath found favor in my

53:51.260 --> 53:53.260
sight and it came to pass

53:53.300 --> 53:59.340
Notice when the evil spirit from God was upon Saul that David took in harp and played with his hand

53:59.780 --> 54:06.260
So Saul was refreshed and was well and the evil spirit departed from him

54:06.700 --> 54:10.620
So here we have Saul, the spirit of the Lord has departed from him.

54:10.620 --> 54:13.820
He has an evil spirit that's troubling him.

54:13.820 --> 54:19.340
The sweet Psalmist of Israel shows up and starts playing on a harp and the evil spirit

54:19.340 --> 54:24.220
departs from Saul and Saul is refreshed and he is well.

54:24.220 --> 54:25.580
What can we gather from this?

54:25.580 --> 54:27.540
Music affects your spirit.

54:27.900 --> 54:34.100
This is so obvious like how could anyone deny that music affects your spirit? Here's the thing this world

54:34.620 --> 54:37.340
Understands that music affects your spirit, right?

54:37.460 --> 54:41.540
Because you know you go into a certain type of restaurant you're gonna hear a certain type of music

54:42.100 --> 54:48.220
You go into a really high-class nice Italian restaurant. You're not gonna hear Metallica playing

54:48.900 --> 54:51.460
You're not going to hear techno playing.

54:51.460 --> 54:55.340
You're going to hear more of a soft, classy type music

54:55.340 --> 54:57.660
because they are looking for a certain spirit

54:57.660 --> 54:59.940
in their establishment.

54:59.940 --> 55:02.260
If you go to a college football game,

55:02.260 --> 55:04.780
when the players come out running on the field,

55:04.780 --> 55:06.140
you know what you're not going to hear?

55:06.140 --> 55:10.780
Da da da da da da da da da da da da da da da da da da.

55:10.780 --> 55:12.620
You're not going to hear that because it's

55:12.620 --> 55:15.780
like who wants to come out to go fight the enemy,

55:15.780 --> 55:16.900
to go play hard again?

55:16.900 --> 55:20.380
them listening to that type of music they're trying to set a certain kind of

55:20.380 --> 55:24.760
spirit and there's gonna be a heavy tone and there's gonna be a fighting spirit

55:24.760 --> 55:29.940
and there's gonna be a harder type of music to pump those guys up and look if

55:29.940 --> 55:33.100
that's the spirit you're going for maybe even there's a time and a place to get

55:33.100 --> 55:36.380
you fired up for something like that I'm not even necessarily saying that that in

55:36.380 --> 55:40.700
and of itself is wrong now some of the music they're playing is trash and

55:40.700 --> 55:44.260
blasphemous and teaches bad things that's true absolutely but I'm just

55:44.260 --> 55:44.900
saying like

55:44.900 --> 55:47.900
If you go to a football game, they're trying to get a certain type of spirit.

55:47.900 --> 55:48.900
Okay?

55:48.900 --> 55:52.520
I've never been to one, but if you went to a bar, I would imagine they're playing a certain

55:52.520 --> 55:53.520
kind of music.

55:53.520 --> 55:58.520
I would imagine if you go to a bar, I would imagine if you go to a nightclub, they're

55:58.520 --> 56:01.920
probably not singing Psalms and hymns and spiritual songs.

56:02.200 --> 56:05.560
I'm sure there's a type of music that they're looking for.

56:05.560 --> 56:08.640
You know, soldiers going into battle,

56:08.640 --> 56:11.040
you know, they're flying on the AC-130,

56:11.040 --> 56:13.200
they're about to parachute out into the enemy.

56:13.200 --> 56:14.160
You know, they're probably listening

56:14.160 --> 56:15.600
to a certain kind of music, right,

56:15.600 --> 56:17.600
to get them fired up for battle.

56:17.600 --> 56:19.240
Okay, you go to a boxing match,

56:19.240 --> 56:20.920
there's gonna be a certain kind of music

56:20.920 --> 56:22.440
when the boxers come out.

56:22.440 --> 56:26.240
Corporate America knows this very well, right?

56:26.240 --> 56:28.720
Everything in this world is sold with music.

56:28.720 --> 56:29.560
You know that?

56:29.560 --> 56:30.200
Every single...

56:30.200 --> 56:35.800
commercial has music, every single short or TikTok reel has music to grab your attention.

56:35.800 --> 56:40.200
Look, if the company is trying to get you to donate money to the nonprofit to go to

56:40.200 --> 56:44.600
the starving kids in Africa, there's going to be a certain kind of music playing when

56:44.600 --> 56:50.460
they want you to donate to the animal shelter and they show you the poor emaciated animals.

56:50.460 --> 56:53.720
There's going to be a certain kind of music playing and it's not going to be a cheerful

56:53.720 --> 56:58.200
one. Why? Because folks, let's just live in reality for a moment. Music affects your

56:58.200 --> 57:02.100
Spirit. Right. Not all music has the same spirit. And just to

57:02.100 --> 57:05.720
pretend like all music is just morally ambivalent and doesn't

57:05.720 --> 57:08.940
change your spirit whatsoever is just to ignore reality is to say

57:08.940 --> 57:11.980
that you know more than all of corporate America and all sports

57:11.980 --> 57:15.240
teams and all of the U. S. Military because look music is

57:15.240 --> 57:18.100
affecting your spirit. Okay. Go to second Kings chapter three.

57:18.100 --> 57:19.460
Let's let's prove this further.

57:25.300 --> 57:29.620
And look, there's even been times, like I remember Verity Baptist Church at one point

57:29.620 --> 57:33.820
made a documentary about psychopath reprobates.

57:33.820 --> 57:35.340
Now that's a pretty dark topic.

57:35.700 --> 57:39.620
It's a pretty creepy topic and you know what they did to go with the spirit of their film

57:39.620 --> 57:44.700
They put some kind of like darker music some more creepy music and a lot of people were just like saying that's crazy

57:44.700 --> 57:50.360
That's out of this world. That's wrong. That's wicked. It's like when you're talking about psychopath reprobates

57:50.780 --> 57:53.260
What background music do you want like praise the Lord?

57:53.700 --> 58:01.060
Praise the Lord Jeffrey Dahmer eats people like no it's like it makes sense like we're talking about a really creepy weird topic

58:01.060 --> 58:03.700
Okay, we're gonna set the tone like hey, we're talking about a serious topic

58:03.700 --> 58:08.840
So again, this sermon is just gonna piss everyone off. That's okay. Second Kings chapter 3 look at verse 14 and

58:09.500 --> 58:12.740
Elisha said as the Lord of hosts liveth before whom I stand

58:13.300 --> 58:18.780
Surely were it not that I regarded the presence of Jehoshaphat king of Judah. I would not look toward thee nor CD

58:19.800 --> 58:28.120
Now bring me a minstrel and it came to pass look at this when the minstrel played that the hand of the Lord came upon him

58:28.200 --> 58:34.480
Right. So there's a certain spirit with the music that was playing there that invited God's spirit that

58:34.720 --> 58:41.520
Invited the spirit of the Lord that there was a different, you know mood with this music that brought God's spirit go to Ephesians chapter 5

58:42.300 --> 58:48.200
Ephesians chapter 5 and of course once the Spirit of God came on him after he played that song he started preaching

58:48.540 --> 58:55.160
Right. This is why we have a song service before we start the preaching is because we're trying to get both myself and the listener

58:55.340 --> 58:57.260
Filled with the Holy Spirit of God

58:57.260 --> 59:03.460
We're saying hey Holy Spirit come in this place move in this place work in people's hearts fill us with God's Spirit

59:03.460 --> 59:05.920
You know, we're trying to have that type of an atmosphere in church

59:06.900 --> 59:14.180
Ephesians 5 look at verse 18 says and be not drunk with wine wherein is excess but be filled with the spirit

59:14.600 --> 59:21.680
Speaking to yourselves in Psalms and hymns and spiritual songs singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord

59:21.800 --> 59:29.740
So these are contrasted against each other wine which is alcohol in this context and being filled with the spirit Psalms

59:30.060 --> 59:31.200
songs

59:31.200 --> 59:34.860
Spiritual songs hymns. Okay, what does alcohol do? You know what?

59:34.900 --> 59:41.260
does it affects your spirits. Alcohol affects your spirit, right? People could be normally

59:41.260 --> 59:45.780
even keeled and you drink alcohol and you become a violent raging maniac.

59:46.100 --> 59:53.460
Or you could be someone who's normally very straight and narrow and you drink alcohol and all of a sudden now you're thinking about cheating

59:53.460 --> 59:55.940
On your spouse or you go and cheat on your spouse, right?

59:55.940 --> 01:00:03.220
Because alcohol affects your spirit and you know what also affects your spirit song songs hymns and spiritual songs, right?

01:00:03.220 --> 01:00:07.780
These are contrasted. Hey be filled with the spirit of God. How are you gonna be filled with the spirit of God?

01:00:07.940 --> 01:00:11.980
Hey the songs hymns spiritual songs how you gonna be filled with the spirit of this world drink alcohol

01:00:11.980 --> 01:00:13.980
That'll get you filled with the spirit of this world

01:00:14.100 --> 01:00:16.500
Notice these things are compared against each other.

01:00:16.500 --> 01:00:18.400
So let me say this.

01:00:18.400 --> 01:00:19.240
I want to be very clear.

01:00:19.240 --> 01:00:20.400
I don't believe there's such thing

01:00:20.400 --> 01:00:22.280
as an inherently sinful note.

01:00:22.280 --> 01:00:24.480
I don't think that minor chords are sinful.

01:00:24.480 --> 01:00:26.060
I don't think that triads are sinful.

01:00:26.060 --> 01:00:28.440
Those are called notes or those are called chords, okay?

01:00:28.440 --> 01:00:29.560
Okay, I'm not gonna say this.

01:00:29.560 --> 01:00:31.600
I am not gonna dogmatically say

01:00:31.600 --> 01:00:34.320
that all worldly music is sinful.

01:00:34.320 --> 01:00:35.760
I am not gonna preach for doctrines,

01:00:35.760 --> 01:00:37.180
the commandments of men.

01:00:37.180 --> 01:00:41.600
Now, my belief is that most of this world music is sinful.

01:00:42.000 --> 01:00:46.440
I do believe that. I believe the vast majority of this world's music is sinful.

01:00:46.440 --> 01:00:50.760
Why? Well, one reason why is because it's coming from a different spirit.

01:00:51.000 --> 01:00:56.640
Right? Do you really think that the musicians of this world are pumping out music that has a godly spirit?

01:00:57.280 --> 01:01:04.520
Absolutely not right oftentimes musicians are very wicked people right they're often really into drugs and fornication

01:01:04.880 --> 01:01:11.260
And the love of money these are not often godly individuals going to church reading the Bible

01:01:11.600 --> 01:01:16.480
Praying soul winning like let's just be real for a minute. These are often very wicked individuals

01:01:17.000 --> 01:01:23.080
Okay, I was in a coffee shop the other day funny enough writing this sermon and this is what I heard being played. Okay

01:01:23.640 --> 01:01:31.880
Love is just a history that they may prove and when you're gone, I'll tell them that my religion is you

01:01:32.360 --> 01:01:36.320
When punctuous which is another word for Pontius Pontius Pilate

01:01:36.800 --> 01:01:40.240
When Pontius Pilate comes to kill the king upon his throne

01:01:40.900 --> 01:01:49.140
I'm ready for their stones all dance dance dance with my hands hands hands above my head head head like jesus said

01:01:49.780 --> 01:01:51.780
You know that is lady gaga

01:01:52.420 --> 01:01:57.220
Now look am I saying that certain notes in that song is making it wicked

01:01:57.460 --> 01:02:01.800
But look if you think listening to lady gaga is okay. God help you

01:02:02.000 --> 01:02:07.120
I mean come on folks, she's literally singing about the crucifixion of Jesus Christ.

01:02:07.120 --> 01:02:11.680
And she's gonna dance, dance, dance with her hands above her head like Jesus said.

01:02:12.100 --> 01:02:17.300
That's blasphemous folks just saying oh, yeah, Jesus just told me to dance to put my hands up

01:02:17.460 --> 01:02:23.060
You know after the crucifixion after Pontius Pilate kills him like i'm sorry if you think listening to that is okay

01:02:23.140 --> 01:02:24.640
You're an idiot

01:02:24.640 --> 01:02:29.940
Disrespectfully, you are an idiot if you think that it is okay to listen to something like that now look

01:02:30.020 --> 01:02:35.540
It's not just bloody mary by lady gaga. That's the name of the song bloody mary by lady gaga

01:02:35.780 --> 01:02:39.860
You know what? It's also music genres that people think are more godly

01:02:40.100 --> 01:02:42.260
like country music.

01:02:42.260 --> 01:02:43.860
People say, well, of course, yeah,

01:02:43.860 --> 01:02:45.980
the pop of this world is wicked.

01:02:45.980 --> 01:02:49.660
And of course, the rock and the metal and the death metal.

01:02:49.660 --> 01:02:51.100
Of course, that stuff is bad.

01:02:51.100 --> 01:02:53.940
But bless God, Blake Shelton.

01:02:53.940 --> 01:02:56.140
Blake Shelton wrote a song called God's Country.

01:02:56.140 --> 01:02:57.740
I mean, it must be a good song, right?

01:02:57.740 --> 01:02:59.660
It's called God's Country.

01:02:59.660 --> 01:03:01.180
He's saying a song called God's Country.

01:03:01.180 --> 01:03:02.140
OK, here's the lyrics.

01:03:03.100 --> 01:03:07.620
It's gonna be hard not to laugh reading this right outside of this one church town

01:03:07.960 --> 01:03:14.280
There's a gold dirt road to a whole lot of nothing. I got a deed to the land, but it ain't my ground

01:03:14.320 --> 01:03:18.860
This is God's country. Don't you just doesn't that just give you chills right there, man?

01:03:19.600 --> 01:03:23.940
We pray for rain and thank him when it's fault. I mean he's praying this great song, right?

01:03:24.500 --> 01:03:28.680
Because it brings the grain and a little bit of money we put it back in the plate

01:03:28.680 --> 01:03:34.400
I guess that's why they call it God's country. I saw the light in a sunrise

01:03:34.940 --> 01:03:37.540
Sitting back in a 40 on a muddy riverside

01:03:38.020 --> 01:03:44.700
Getting baptized in holy water and shine with the dogs running. What the hell are you even talking about?

01:03:45.540 --> 01:03:48.580
Baptized in holy water and shot. Are you talking about moonshine?

01:03:49.200 --> 01:03:52.320
Are you talking about Catholic holy water and moonshine?

01:03:52.320 --> 01:03:54.480
What are you even talking about?

01:03:54.480 --> 01:03:57.840
Getting baptized in holy water and shined with the dogs running.

01:03:57.840 --> 01:04:01.120
I don't even know what that has to do with anything, but okay.

01:04:01.120 --> 01:04:05.880
Saved by the sound of the band found.

01:04:05.880 --> 01:04:09.600
Dixie whistle in the wind, that'll get you heaven bound.

01:04:09.600 --> 01:04:10.600
What?

01:04:11.400 --> 01:04:13.800
Sirs, what must I do to be saved?

01:04:13.800 --> 01:04:15.960
You've got to be saved by the sound of the Benfound.

01:04:15.960 --> 01:04:18.520
Dixie whistle in the wind, that'll get you heaven bound.

01:04:18.520 --> 01:04:19.300
Huh?

01:04:19.900 --> 01:04:21.900
What are you talking about?

01:04:21.900 --> 01:04:23.820
Oh man, country music's so great.

01:04:23.820 --> 01:04:25.420
No, it's stupid, folks.

01:04:25.420 --> 01:04:26.580
It's trash.

01:04:26.580 --> 01:04:28.660
It's not God's spirit.

01:04:28.660 --> 01:04:29.940
It's not a godly spirit.

01:04:29.940 --> 01:04:31.900
It's not putting you in the right spirit.

01:04:31.900 --> 01:04:33.140
This is garbage.

01:04:33.140 --> 01:04:34.920
This is just getting you put in the spirit

01:04:34.920 --> 01:04:37.900
of just not caring about doctrine or anything

01:04:37.900 --> 01:04:40.940
because he said the word God and he said the word pray

01:04:40.940 --> 01:04:43.900
and he said the word saved and he said the word baptized

01:04:43.900 --> 01:04:45.440
and he said the word holy.

01:04:45.440 --> 01:04:47.780
It's deception from the devil is what it is.

01:04:47.900 --> 01:04:53.260
That's what country music is. It's like that red dirt road. It's where I crashed my first car

01:04:53.420 --> 01:04:56.220
It's where I found jesus where I drank my first beer. It's just like

01:04:57.180 --> 01:05:01.820
I'm just sick and tired of country music and people pretending like it's somehow godly. It's not

01:05:02.460 --> 01:05:04.860
Now look, here's the thing. Here's what the devil wants you to do

01:05:06.060 --> 01:05:11.180
The devil wants you to be like hey, well look there are some songs in the world that are not inherently simple

01:05:11.180 --> 01:05:13.000
You know, I would agree with that statement

01:05:13.200 --> 01:05:16.200
There are some country songs that are not inherently sinful.

01:05:16.200 --> 01:05:20.200
But let me just tell you the truth right now, is the devil doesn't care about those songs.

01:05:20.200 --> 01:05:24.200
The devil just wants you to listen to those songs so that you turn on the radio

01:05:24.200 --> 01:05:30.200
and you hear, oh this song ain't so bad. And then another song comes on that teaches work salvation.

01:05:30.300 --> 01:05:34.940
or glorifies drinking alcohol or glorifies divorcing your spouse.

01:05:34.940 --> 01:05:37.940
You know he wants you to turn on a song it's like ah there's nothing wrong with this song

01:05:37.940 --> 01:05:41.140
but then he wants you know Sabrina Carpenter to come up next.

01:05:41.140 --> 01:05:42.900
He wants Taylor Swift to come up next.

01:05:42.900 --> 01:05:44.180
You say what's wrong with those people?

01:05:44.180 --> 01:05:49.140
Again, just like God help you if you think that it's okay to listen to Sabrina Carpenter

01:05:49.140 --> 01:05:50.660
and Taylor Swift.

01:05:50.660 --> 01:05:52.880
These people are demonic.

01:05:52.880 --> 01:05:54.420
These people are wicked as hell.

01:05:54.420 --> 01:05:57.780
And again it's like sure you could show me songs that aren't necessarily bad but the

01:05:57.780 --> 01:05:58.280
The devil just w-

01:05:58.300 --> 01:06:00.140
wants to get your heart.

01:06:00.400 --> 01:06:04.800
On the appetites of this world so that it could lead to worse things because here's the thing

01:06:05.200 --> 01:06:07.200
Not everyone has the self-control

01:06:07.520 --> 01:06:10.320
Now look if you have the self-control praise god for you being the exception

01:06:10.640 --> 01:06:15.040
Most people don't have the self-control to say like let me actually consider what i'm listening to

01:06:15.520 --> 01:06:20.320
Let me think about what's being sung here. You know, is this something that's godly or not?

01:06:20.640 --> 01:06:27.360
Most people are just kind of mindlessly consuming stuff and they get sucked down a dark road to going to super wicked music

01:06:28.200 --> 01:06:32.360
And I think like those of us who are parents in here, like if we actually just honest for a minute,

01:06:32.360 --> 01:06:37.240
would you be pleased your children just consuming this world's music? Like would you really be

01:06:37.240 --> 01:06:41.880
pleased to just hear them listening to a bunch of worldly music? Would you really want your kids

01:06:41.880 --> 01:06:46.120
to go to these worldly concerts and be a part of this type of scene? I think if we're honest

01:06:46.120 --> 01:06:50.200
with ourselves, the answer is no. Like we would not want our children to be in that type of

01:06:50.200 --> 01:06:54.360
environment. So why would I try to like wet their appetite with worldly music?

01:06:54.900 --> 01:07:01.300
Why would I try to be like, hey, let me give you a list of, you know, 15 songs that I think are not sinful.

01:07:01.300 --> 01:07:07.900
Because do you really think these foolish children are going to have the wisdom and self-control to just stick with those 15 songs?

01:07:07.900 --> 01:07:12.900
Or do you think they're just going to become addicted to this world's music and end up going down a dark path?

01:07:12.900 --> 01:07:21.900
I'll just tell you from personal experience, teenagers that I've seen that get super big into this world's music often quit church the moment they turn 18.

01:07:22.700 --> 01:07:28.860
That's just reality. That's just what I've seen. Okay, whereas kids that end up sticking with godly music standards

01:07:29.100 --> 01:07:33.900
Oftentimes I see them continuing to serve God after 18 now look that's anecdotal sure

01:07:33.980 --> 01:07:40.140
But I'm just saying like show me all these godly teenagers that are just totally into this world's music that are just great

01:07:40.140 --> 01:07:44.160
Soul winners like I don't think you could find it. I don't think you could show that to me. Okay

01:07:45.900 --> 01:07:52.780
Go to first John chapter 2 first John chapter number 2, you know, I thought about just showing everyone tons of examples of bad lyrics

01:07:53.420 --> 01:07:55.900
But honestly like let's just be if you're just honest with yourself

01:07:56.060 --> 01:08:00.460
You just pull up just about any worldly song and you're going to find promotion of alcohol

01:08:01.080 --> 01:08:02.220
drugs

01:08:02.220 --> 01:08:03.340
violence

01:08:03.340 --> 01:08:05.340
Hordom or false religion

01:08:05.340 --> 01:08:07.340
Like let's just be honest and I even looked up

01:08:07.340 --> 01:08:10.140
I said what are the top five most famous songs in the u.s

01:08:10.140 --> 01:08:13.500
Right now and a lot of them I couldn't even tell you the lyrics because they're so filthy

01:08:13.900 --> 01:08:16.600
songs by Drake songs by Bad Bunny

01:08:18.200 --> 01:08:23.700
They're too fit like I can't even censor it would be like be be be be I would just be bleeping out every word

01:08:24.240 --> 01:08:26.240
Like you wouldn't even know what I'm saying

01:08:26.240 --> 01:08:28.240
Look at first John 2 verse 15

01:08:29.060 --> 01:08:32.900
Bible says love not the world notice neither the things that are in the world

01:08:33.420 --> 01:08:40.080
If any man loved the world the love of the Father is not in him for all that is in the world

01:08:40.700 --> 01:08:45.420
The lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the pride of life is not of the father

01:08:45.700 --> 01:08:47.540
But is of the world again

01:08:47.540 --> 01:08:51.240
I think if we're honest with ourselves is all worldly music simple no

01:08:51.380 --> 01:08:56.780
But is most of the world's music promoting things like the lust of the eyes the lust of the flesh and the pride of life

01:08:56.780 --> 01:08:58.400
The answer is yes

01:08:58.600 --> 01:09:06.140
What does the Bible command us do not love that stuff right God cares about where our affections are placed

01:09:06.640 --> 01:09:14.820
Again oftentimes our affections are going to be placed in the areas of life that we feed the most right you know people who?

01:09:15.140 --> 01:09:19.260
You know they just hate healthy food you want to know why they hate healthy because they never eat healthy food

01:09:19.800 --> 01:09:23.080
It's like people who just hate exercise, they hate running.

01:09:23.080 --> 01:09:25.080
It's because they never exercise.

01:09:25.080 --> 01:09:27.080
I just hate reading the Bible.

01:09:27.080 --> 01:09:28.080
I just hate going to church.

01:09:28.080 --> 01:09:30.080
It's probably because you just don't read the Bible and don't go to church.

01:09:30.080 --> 01:09:34.080
But oftentimes when you're feeding the right areas of your life, you know what you notice?

01:09:34.080 --> 01:09:36.080
You start to like those areas of life.

01:09:36.700 --> 01:09:40.700
Let me ask for just a raise of hands that when you first got saved, all right

01:09:40.940 --> 01:09:45.580
No one will judge you here when you first got saved and you heard heart preaching heart preaching

01:09:45.740 --> 01:09:50.700
It rubbed you the wrong way a little bit hard preaching when you first got saved. Okay. It's okay to admit that

01:09:50.780 --> 01:09:54.300
Okay now who says after growing I now like hard preaching

01:09:54.940 --> 01:09:59.740
Right that you see what i'm saying, right? So there could be things where like, oh, I don't really like this

01:10:00.200 --> 01:10:05.000
Or I do like this but have you ever thought the reason maybe you like this is because you're in the flesh and

01:10:05.440 --> 01:10:10.100
The reason maybe you don't like a certain thing is because you're not in the spirit or you're not in the flesh

01:10:10.100 --> 01:10:14.200
And it's like well, but you don't understand. It's like this music sounds good, and I like it

01:10:14.200 --> 01:10:16.600
It's like well duh because it's playing on the flesh

01:10:17.300 --> 01:10:19.500
Of course it sounds good, of course you like it.

01:10:19.500 --> 01:10:21.800
You know, people also like marijuana,

01:10:21.800 --> 01:10:23.300
and people also like alcohol,

01:10:23.300 --> 01:10:25.100
and people also like fornication,

01:10:25.100 --> 01:10:26.900
and people also like adultery.

01:10:26.900 --> 01:10:27.740
Why?

01:10:27.740 --> 01:10:29.980
Because, you know, this world plays on our flesh,

01:10:29.980 --> 01:10:32.420
and our flesh likes the things of the flesh.

01:10:32.420 --> 01:10:34.660
Our flesh likes worldly things.

01:10:34.660 --> 01:10:36.820
And so saying like, hey, you know, I like it,

01:10:36.820 --> 01:10:38.340
well it's like, okay, but that's not an argument

01:10:38.340 --> 01:10:40.700
that it's good, because you like it.

01:10:40.700 --> 01:10:41.520
What does the Bible say?

01:10:41.520 --> 01:10:42.200
I'll read for you.

01:10:42.500 --> 01:10:46.660
1st Thessalonians 522 the Bible says abstain from all appearance of evil

01:10:47.400 --> 01:10:53.000
Right? So like I care about the things that I do because as a leader, I know people are looking to me.

01:10:53.000 --> 01:10:55.000
I know that the children are looking to me.

01:10:55.000 --> 01:11:00.300
And it's like if I just started just listening to worldly music, just putting no restrictions on myself,

01:11:00.300 --> 01:11:02.400
just like, you know, promoting this kind of stuff.

01:11:02.400 --> 01:11:07.300
What are the children going to think? They're going to think, hey, then OK, let's just listen to Taylor Swift.

01:11:07.300 --> 01:11:10.100
Let's go for the death metal. Let's do all this kind of stuff.

01:11:10.100 --> 01:11:13.500
And the Bible doesn't say just avoid evil. It says avoid the appearance of evil.

01:11:14.100 --> 01:11:16.660
That's what the Bible says go to Colossians chapter number three

01:11:17.540 --> 01:11:22.980
So look like i'll just tell you my my opinion again. Let's have some nuance here. Generally speaking

01:11:23.540 --> 01:11:28.740
My opinion is that I don't like worldly music. I don't promote it. I don't think we should promote it

01:11:28.820 --> 01:11:33.220
I don't think we should promote it to the young kids in this church because in general it's bad

01:11:33.860 --> 01:11:35.800
In general, it's wicked

01:11:36.100 --> 01:11:40.660
Look at Colossians chapter 3 verse 1. It says, if you then be risen with Christ,

01:11:40.660 --> 01:11:44.900
seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God.

01:11:44.900 --> 01:11:49.940
Verse 2 is the key. Set your affection on things above.

01:11:50.300 --> 01:11:54.300
So look, we are supposed to control our hearts and our minds

01:11:54.300 --> 01:11:58.300
and we are supposed to tell our hearts what we're going to have our affection on

01:11:58.300 --> 01:12:02.300
not just consume whatever and ask ourself does this make me feel good

01:12:02.300 --> 01:12:06.300
does my heart like this we're supposed to say okay I'm going to put my love

01:12:06.300 --> 01:12:10.300
and affection on the things of God

01:12:11.400 --> 01:12:14.780
Now look, is there really, I mean, the world's music,

01:12:14.780 --> 01:12:17.640
let's just be honest, they're extremely talented.

01:12:17.640 --> 01:12:19.480
They're extremely talented.

01:12:19.480 --> 01:12:22.320
They've got music down to a literal science.

01:12:22.320 --> 01:12:24.000
They know how to play a song

01:12:24.000 --> 01:12:26.360
to immediately change your attitude.

01:12:26.360 --> 01:12:27.800
Sometimes you can hear a song and just like,

01:12:27.800 --> 01:12:29.360
all of a sudden you feel like you wanna cry

01:12:29.360 --> 01:12:31.240
or all of a sudden you feel like you wanna fight, right?

01:12:31.240 --> 01:12:32.600
Because they're very skilled.

01:12:32.700 --> 01:12:37.180
I'm not saying like man, you know listen to this guitar solo. Look how skilled it. Yeah, he is skilled

01:12:37.420 --> 01:12:42.700
Yeah, it does sound good. But the bible tells us we should set our affection on things above

01:12:43.260 --> 01:12:48.060
Right, so it's like, you know, you play some sort of worldly song and even though it has a horrible message

01:12:48.140 --> 01:12:51.580
It's teaching sinful things. It's like yeah, but it sounds good. It's like I know it sounds good

01:12:51.820 --> 01:12:55.040
But the bible says for us to set our affection on things above

01:12:56.200 --> 01:13:01.240
For you are dead and your life is hid with Christ in God when Christ who is our life shall appear

01:13:01.640 --> 01:13:04.920
Then shall you also appear with him in glory?

01:13:05.400 --> 01:13:11.740
Mortify notice mortify kill they'll therefore your members which are upon the earth listen to this list fornication

01:13:12.340 --> 01:13:21.740
uncleanness inordinate affection evil concupiscence and covetousness, which is idolatry for which things sake the wrath of God

01:13:22.300 --> 01:13:30.300
Cometh on the children of disobedience. Why is it that I would purposely listen to music that uses Colossians chapter 3 verse 5 as a

01:13:30.620 --> 01:13:36.780
Checklist I mean this is like a checklist of what most of this world's music is about fornication

01:13:37.820 --> 01:13:41.100
uncleanness inordinate affection evil concupiscence

01:13:42.060 --> 01:13:43.060
covetousness

01:13:43.060 --> 01:13:48.180
Idolatry you know the Bible says God's wrath is upon people because of these things

01:13:49.100 --> 01:13:53.100
So if God hates these sins if these sins makes God angry

01:13:53.340 --> 01:13:59.980
Why would I sit here and give my heart to and sing along and love songs that use this as a checklist?

01:14:00.060 --> 01:14:05.660
It's not it's not right. It's not godly. We should just be honest with ourselves as christians and say hey

01:14:05.900 --> 01:14:10.540
Yeah, it sounds good. But you know what? This is teaching wicked stuff. And so i'm not going to sing along with it

01:14:10.780 --> 01:14:13.500
I'm not going to promote this. This is something that's not good

01:14:14.300 --> 01:14:15.800
Now ask yourself this

01:14:15.900 --> 01:14:18.900
How would these lyrics affect your spirit?

01:14:18.900 --> 01:14:23.900
Okay, to God be the glory, great things He have done.

01:14:23.900 --> 01:14:26.900
So loved He the world that He gave us His Son,

01:14:26.900 --> 01:14:29.900
the vilest offender who truly believes

01:14:29.900 --> 01:14:32.900
that moment from Jesus a pardon receives.

01:14:33.600 --> 01:14:35.840
Praise the Lord, praise the Lord.

01:14:35.840 --> 01:14:37.500
Let the earth hear his voice.

01:14:37.500 --> 01:14:39.640
Praise the Lord, praise the Lord.

01:14:39.640 --> 01:14:41.140
Let the people rejoice.

01:14:41.140 --> 01:14:44.080
O come to the Father through Jesus the Son

01:14:44.080 --> 01:14:47.040
and give him the glory, great things he hath done.

01:14:47.040 --> 01:14:48.180
You know, singing that is gonna put you

01:14:48.180 --> 01:14:50.180
in a little bit of a different spirit.

01:14:50.180 --> 01:14:51.620
You know, a lot of this world's music,

01:14:51.620 --> 01:14:52.820
it gets you prideful.

01:14:53.200 --> 01:14:58.180
Right a lot of songs are trying to talk about you know how bad they are how tough they are how strong they're and you

01:14:58.180 --> 01:15:00.080
Sing that you start feeling a certain way about yourself

01:15:00.080 --> 01:15:04.920
You're not gonna feel prideful singing this great things he hath done to him be the glory

01:15:05.200 --> 01:15:07.320
Praise the Lord praise the Lord

01:15:07.320 --> 01:15:13.380
You know you're gonna have a certain spirit about yourself when you're singing praises to God versus the songs of this world

01:15:13.520 --> 01:15:15.500
Okay, how would this affect your spirit?

01:15:15.700 --> 01:15:19.100
I'd rather have Jesus than silver or gold.

01:15:19.100 --> 01:15:22.100
You think that's gonna match any rap song ever in existence?

01:15:22.100 --> 01:15:24.500
I mean, they're wanting to put silver and gold on their teeth.

01:15:24.500 --> 01:15:26.100
They don't want Jesus. They don't care about Jesus.

01:15:26.100 --> 01:15:28.400
They want silver and gold on their teeth.

01:15:28.400 --> 01:15:30.500
I'd rather have Jesus than silver or gold.

01:15:30.500 --> 01:15:32.900
I'd rather be His than have riches untold.

01:15:32.900 --> 01:15:35.100
I'd rather have Jesus than houses or lands.

01:15:35.100 --> 01:15:36.900
That's not promoting covetousness, is it?

01:15:37.300 --> 01:15:43.580
I'd rather be led by His nail-pierced hand than to be a king of a vast domain or be held

01:15:43.580 --> 01:15:45.020
in sin's dread sway.

01:15:45.020 --> 01:15:49.740
I'd rather have Jesus than anything this world affords today.

01:15:49.740 --> 01:15:52.180
I'd rather have Jesus than men's applause.

01:15:52.180 --> 01:15:55.180
I'd rather be faithful to His dear cause.

01:15:55.180 --> 01:15:58.380
I'd rather have Jesus than worldwide fame.

01:15:58.380 --> 01:16:00.020
I'd rather be true to His holy name.

01:16:00.400 --> 01:16:04.300
I mean that is the exact opposite of the message of this world's music.

01:16:04.300 --> 01:16:05.400
It is, right?

01:16:05.400 --> 01:16:10.440
This world is telling you, you know, stack cash, get money, get riches, get fame.

01:16:10.440 --> 01:16:13.920
I'm trying to get famous, you know, you know, that's what musicians are trying to do.

01:16:13.920 --> 01:16:14.920
They're trying to get famous, right?

01:16:14.920 --> 01:16:17.520
And they want you to be infected with the love of money.

01:16:17.520 --> 01:16:20.280
Whereas this song is just saying like, Hey, I'd rather have Jesus than anything.

01:16:21.000 --> 01:16:24.920
I don't need fame. I don't need glory. I don't need riches. I don't need honor

01:16:25.240 --> 01:16:27.720
I'm just trying to be faithful to his dear cause

01:16:27.880 --> 01:16:32.280
You know what that that song is going to make me want to do that song is going to stir my spirit to want to

01:16:32.280 --> 01:16:33.800
Go out and preach the gospel

01:16:33.800 --> 01:16:36.360
It's going to want it's going to make me want to go to church more

01:16:36.520 --> 01:16:39.720
It's going to make me want to read the bible more it's going to make me want to love god more

01:16:39.880 --> 01:16:42.680
It's not going to make me want to love myself more and be more selfish

01:16:43.480 --> 01:16:45.400
Here's another great song. I love this song

01:16:45.800 --> 01:16:52.460
Once far from God and dead in sin no light my heart could see but in God's word the light I found

01:16:52.860 --> 01:16:58.220
Now Christ liveth in me Christ liveth in me Christ liveth in me. Oh

01:16:58.820 --> 01:17:03.020
What a salvation this that Christ liveth in me. That's a beautiful song

01:17:03.560 --> 01:17:08.540
Just thinking about those words go back to Colossians 3 if you've already turned from there

01:17:09.100 --> 01:17:15.900
Number one music is an essential part of the Christian life number two music affects your spirit number three music is teaching you

01:17:16.860 --> 01:17:20.940
Music is teaching you look at Colossians 3 verse 16

01:17:22.220 --> 01:17:28.060
Let the word of christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another in

01:17:28.700 --> 01:17:31.520
Psalms and hymns and spiritual songs

01:17:32.100 --> 01:17:34.460
singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord and

01:17:34.980 --> 01:17:39.800
Whatsoever ye do in word or indeed do all in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ

01:17:40.260 --> 01:17:46.820
Giving thanks to God and the Father by him. So I one problem that I have with this world's music is its spirit

01:17:46.980 --> 01:17:52.740
Here's another big problem. I have with this world's music is what it is teaching you

01:17:53.300 --> 01:17:56.780
because the Bible teaches that music teaches.

01:17:56.780 --> 01:17:59.380
It's like, hey, make sure that you're teaching one another

01:17:59.380 --> 01:18:00.740
in Psalms, right?

01:18:00.740 --> 01:18:02.260
That's the inspired word of God.

01:18:02.260 --> 01:18:05.100
And then also hymns and spiritual songs,

01:18:05.100 --> 01:18:07.500
not necessarily inspired by God, of course not,

01:18:07.500 --> 01:18:10.460
but still teaching good lessons, teaching good morals.

01:18:10.460 --> 01:18:11.300
How about this?

01:18:11.300 --> 01:18:12.980
Teaching good doctrine.

01:18:13.700 --> 01:18:21.300
You know, this is a bit the big issue I have with CCM music is that CCM music is often either teaching you

01:18:22.000 --> 01:18:26.900
Absolutely nothing or it's teaching you wrong doctrine. He gets us

01:18:27.500 --> 01:18:33.800
Right? Just this super liberal, watered-down version of Christianity is what CCM is promoting oftentimes.

01:18:33.800 --> 01:18:41.200
Or it's teaching doctrine that is so vague that it could be championed by both Muslims and Christians and Mormons and everyone.

01:18:41.200 --> 01:18:43.700
Okay? Our God is an awesome God.

01:18:44.200 --> 01:18:45.800
He reigns from heaven above.

01:18:46.100 --> 01:18:49.800
He rules with wisdom, power, and love. Our God is an awesome God.

01:18:49.800 --> 01:18:51.200
Couldn't a Muslim sing that?

01:18:51.700 --> 01:18:53.000
Couldn't a Mormon sing that?

01:18:53.300 --> 01:19:00.980
Couldn't an unsaved tongue-talking Pentecostal sing that everyone could sing that why because CCM is just a money-making scheme is what it is

01:19:00.980 --> 01:19:04.420
And they've got to make their doctrine as absolutely broad as possible

01:19:05.020 --> 01:19:09.740
So as not to offend different cults different groups of Christians

01:19:09.740 --> 01:19:13.560
I mean one group of Christians could not sing that

01:19:14.400 --> 01:19:17.200
But you know what? We start singing the hymns in our hymnal

01:19:17.200 --> 01:19:20.700
and it's going to cut out a lot of people who believe in work salvation,

01:19:20.700 --> 01:19:22.900
who believe you could lose your salvation.

01:19:22.900 --> 01:19:23.900
Okay?

01:19:23.900 --> 01:19:24.900
How about this one?

01:19:24.900 --> 01:19:26.900
Your love is deeper than any ocean,

01:19:26.900 --> 01:19:28.400
higher than the heavens,

01:19:28.400 --> 01:19:31.100
reaches beyond the stars in the sky.

01:19:31.100 --> 01:19:33.400
I mean, a Freemason could sing that.

01:19:33.900 --> 01:19:38.780
who just believes someone who just believes in a higher power could sing that right i mean again

01:19:38.780 --> 01:19:44.220
it's just it's not teaching you anything good whereas in this world's music it's either let's

01:19:44.220 --> 01:19:47.180
just be honest most of the time this world's music is just teaching bad things it's using

01:19:47.180 --> 01:19:52.540
colostrums three five as a checklist and in ccm it's either teaching you nothing or could oftentimes

01:19:52.540 --> 01:19:55.340
be teaching false doctrine go to exodus chapter 15

01:19:56.200 --> 01:20:03.660
Exodus 15 eyes returning their Deuteronomy 31 19 says now therefore write ye this song for you and teach it

01:20:04.060 --> 01:20:09.440
To the children of Israel put it in their mouths that this song may be a witness for me

01:20:10.000 --> 01:20:11.760
Against the children of Israel, right?

01:20:11.760 --> 01:20:16.880
So God's telling Moses write this song and teach it to the next generation

01:20:16.880 --> 01:20:23.820
So this song could stand as a witness meaning it's going to be teaching doctrine. It's gonna have reminders the very first song

01:20:24.200 --> 01:20:30.520
in the bible is in exodus 15 the song of moses and here's the thing this song is inspired by god

01:20:30.520 --> 01:20:35.400
we know that this song is everything in it is 100 right notice the doctrine that's in this song

01:20:36.440 --> 01:20:41.640
exodus 15 verse 1 then saying moses and the children of israel this song unto the lord

01:20:42.200 --> 01:20:48.040
and spake saying i will sing unto the lord for he hath triumphed gloriously the horse and his

01:20:48.040 --> 01:20:51.960
rider Hathi thrown into the sea.

01:20:52.600 --> 01:20:55.800
I mean, you're singing about God's glorious triumph

01:20:55.800 --> 01:21:00.160
when he literally killed all of the Egyptians and Pharaoh

01:21:00.160 --> 01:21:01.360
in the Red Sea.

01:21:01.360 --> 01:21:03.520
Show me a CCM song that's talking

01:21:03.520 --> 01:21:06.700
about how great God is for killing his enemies.

01:21:06.800 --> 01:21:11.600
for destroying his enemies like man I love God because he killed his enemies

01:21:11.600 --> 01:21:16.160
he destroyed his enemies and look how God is just triumphing gloriously

01:21:16.160 --> 01:21:19.180
through his mighty power in killing his enemies

01:21:19.180 --> 01:21:23.600
I mean churches would freak out singing that. Let's sing about when God killed

01:21:23.600 --> 01:21:24.240
the Egyptians

01:21:24.240 --> 01:21:27.600
alright beloved turn your hymnals we're going to sing this song. Now this song is about when God

01:21:27.600 --> 01:21:28.280
killed

01:21:28.280 --> 01:21:32.680
the Egyptians. People would freak out over that. The Lord is my strength

01:21:32.680 --> 01:21:33.400
and song.

01:21:33.900 --> 01:21:39.020
He is become my salvation. He is my God and I will prepare him in habitation

01:21:39.420 --> 01:21:45.420
My father's God and I will exalt him look at verse 3 the Lord is a man of war

01:21:46.300 --> 01:21:48.300
The Lord is his name.

01:21:48.300 --> 01:21:49.300
Right?

01:21:49.300 --> 01:21:53.660
God is not this soft, pacifist, long-haired, effeminate, hippie.

01:21:53.660 --> 01:21:55.740
God is a man of war.

01:21:55.740 --> 01:22:01.260
And his enemies should tremble at his sight, tremble at his voice, tremble at his word,

01:22:01.260 --> 01:22:02.340
because you know what?

01:22:02.340 --> 01:22:03.340
Look at the Egyptians.

01:22:03.340 --> 01:22:04.340
Look what he did to them.

01:22:04.340 --> 01:22:05.340
He's a man of war.

01:22:05.340 --> 01:22:10.540
Hey, look what God did in the flood when he flooded the whole earth and killed every single

01:22:10.540 --> 01:22:12.460
human being except Noah and his family.

01:22:12.800 --> 01:22:18.160
Show me the the CCM song about God killing 99.9 percent of the Earth's population

01:22:18.480 --> 01:22:20.480
Where's that CCM song? I'd love to hear it

01:22:20.640 --> 01:22:25.120
But you know what? This is good doctrine and you know why people oftentimes have such a screwed up

01:22:25.660 --> 01:22:30.400
Perception of who God is is because all they're doing is reading a false bible version

01:22:30.880 --> 01:22:37.040
And going to church with a woman pastor and a man in skinny jeans and a feminine queer music

01:22:37.360 --> 01:22:40.480
Singing only about the love of grace of God and they don't even know

01:22:40.800 --> 01:22:42.800
that God is a man of war.

01:22:42.800 --> 01:22:46.000
They don't even know that God is one not to be messed with.

01:22:46.000 --> 01:22:49.240
And today, people are so crazy and so detached

01:22:49.240 --> 01:22:52.600
from who the God of the Bible is that they say things like,

01:22:52.600 --> 01:22:55.080
only God could judge me, not realizing

01:22:55.080 --> 01:22:57.800
that that should terrify you.

01:22:57.800 --> 01:22:59.120
People are just so permissive.

01:22:59.120 --> 01:23:00.480
They'll drink alcohol.

01:23:00.480 --> 01:23:02.040
They'll dress like whores.

01:23:02.040 --> 01:23:03.200
They'll just skip church.

01:23:03.200 --> 01:23:04.240
We don't need church.

01:23:04.240 --> 01:23:06.480
Because only God can judge me.

01:23:06.480 --> 01:23:07.100
It's like,

01:23:07.300 --> 01:23:09.900
Yeah, dummy, you should be terrified of that.

01:23:09.900 --> 01:23:12.860
Yeah, God judging you is something you should be terrified of,

01:23:12.860 --> 01:23:15.540
because let me show you some things that God did to people he judged.

01:23:15.540 --> 01:23:18.700
He killed the heathen, he flooded the world, he killed the Egyptians.

01:23:18.700 --> 01:23:19.540
Oh, but I'm safe.

01:23:19.540 --> 01:23:22.900
OK, he killed Ananias and Sapphira who were saved.

01:23:22.900 --> 01:23:23.940
Only God can judge me.

01:23:23.940 --> 01:23:24.580
Yeah, and you know what?

01:23:24.580 --> 01:23:26.580
God can kill you.

01:23:26.580 --> 01:23:28.580
The Bible is full of God killing people.

01:23:28.580 --> 01:23:30.140
That's just what the Bible teaches.

01:23:30.140 --> 01:23:30.540
And you know what?

01:23:30.540 --> 01:23:32.500
If people sang this song, they probably would know that.

01:23:33.600 --> 01:23:39.740
Pharaoh's chariots and his host had he cast into the sea his chosen captains also are drowned in the red sea

01:23:39.920 --> 01:23:45.200
The depths have covered them they sank into the bottom as a stone. He's getting graphic here

01:23:45.960 --> 01:23:50.360
The right thy right hand. Oh Lord has become glorious in power thy right hand

01:23:50.360 --> 01:23:53.360
Oh Lord hath dashed in pieces the enemy

01:23:53.640 --> 01:23:59.240
Right like like just this picture of God just picking up this pipsqueak human and just dashing him against the wall

01:23:59.400 --> 01:24:01.400
Just destroying his enemy

01:24:02.900 --> 01:24:08.800
It says verse 7 and in the greatness of thy excellency thou hast overthrown them that rose up against thee

01:24:09.080 --> 01:24:15.520
Thou sentest forth thy wrath which consumed them as stubble and with the blast of thy nostrils

01:24:15.520 --> 01:24:21.500
The waters were gathered together the flood stood upright as an heap and the depths were congealed in the heart of the sea

01:24:22.200 --> 01:24:25.600
The enemy said, I will pursue, I will overtake,

01:24:25.600 --> 01:24:29.400
I will divide the spoil, my lust shall be satisfied upon them.

01:24:29.400 --> 01:24:32.520
I will draw my sword, my hand shall destroy them.

01:24:32.520 --> 01:24:35.800
Thou didst blow with thy wind, the sea covered them,

01:24:35.800 --> 01:24:38.240
they sank as lead in the mighty waters.

01:24:38.240 --> 01:24:41.320
Who is like unto thee, O Lord, among the gods?

01:24:41.320 --> 01:24:44.520
Who is like thee, glorious in holiness,

01:24:44.520 --> 01:24:47.280
fearful in praises, doing wonders?

01:24:47.280 --> 01:24:48.520
Man, that's a great song.

01:24:49.300 --> 01:24:54.400
Someone knows how to turn that into music and make it sound like our traditional hymns. We'll sing that song. It's great

01:24:54.580 --> 01:24:59.940
That's a wonderful song right there. Go to Psalm 139, you know Psalm 139. We do sing in church

01:25:00.700 --> 01:25:06.620
You know what's so funny about this is I've seen visitors come to church both here and at St. Fast Baptist Church

01:25:07.100 --> 01:25:12.780
when we are singing Psalm 139 and I've seen looks of terror and horror come upon their

01:25:12.780 --> 01:25:13.780
face.

01:25:13.780 --> 01:25:15.260
But let me explain something to you.

01:25:15.260 --> 01:25:18.900
Psalm 139 is the inspired words of God.

01:25:19.400 --> 01:25:24.880
And why is it that someone would come to a Christian church with a Bible in their hand

01:25:24.880 --> 01:25:27.160
and be shocked at what the Bible says?

01:25:27.160 --> 01:25:28.160
I'll tell you why.

01:25:28.160 --> 01:25:31.800
Because they're not reading the Bible and they're listening to a bunch of CCM that would

01:25:31.800 --> 01:25:36.800
never portray God as the Bible does in Exodus 15 or in Psalm 139.

01:25:36.800 --> 01:25:41.520
And it's just such a shock to hear that God hates people.

01:25:41.520 --> 01:25:42.800
Yeah, I said it.

01:25:42.800 --> 01:25:44.680
The Bible teaches that God hates some people.

01:25:45.700 --> 01:25:49.340
And most Christians, they have this idea, God hates no one.

01:25:49.340 --> 01:25:51.940
It's like, you have never read your Bible.

01:25:51.940 --> 01:25:54.700
Because all over the Bible, there are phrases,

01:25:54.700 --> 01:25:58.220
thou abhorrest all the workers of iniquity.

01:25:58.220 --> 01:25:59.880
Do not, oh, let's just read it right here.

01:25:59.880 --> 01:26:01.260
Psalm 139 verse 19.

01:26:01.260 --> 01:26:03.580
Surely thou wilt slay the wicked, O God.

01:26:03.580 --> 01:26:04.420
You know what that means?

01:26:04.420 --> 01:26:05.500
You're gonna kill them, God.

01:26:06.200 --> 01:26:11.980
Depart from me therefore you bloody men for they speak against thee wickedly and thine enemies take thy name in vain

01:26:12.080 --> 01:26:15.200
Notice verse 21 do not I hate them?

01:26:15.200 --> 01:26:20.500
Oh Lord that hate thee and am not I grieved with those that rise up against thee I?

01:26:21.120 --> 01:26:25.440
Hate them with perfect hatred I count them mine enemies

01:26:25.760 --> 01:26:30.160
But doesn't the Bible say love everyone at all times no it doesn't actually

01:26:31.000 --> 01:26:35.220
Doesn't the Bible say that God loves everyone at all times no matter what no it doesn't say that whatsoever

01:26:35.740 --> 01:26:41.200
Doesn't the Bible say love your enemies. Yes, it does say love your enemies. You know what it doesn't say love God's enemies

01:26:41.660 --> 01:26:45.900
You know the Bible says here do not I hate them Oh Lord that hate thee

01:26:46.360 --> 01:26:48.920
Go to Romans chapter chapter what no don't actually go there

01:26:48.920 --> 01:26:52.560
I'm saying if you went to Romans chapter 1 and you read about sodomites

01:26:52.560 --> 01:26:55.980
You know what the Bible says about sodomites that they are haters of God

01:26:56.700 --> 01:26:58.420
Why would you guys hate homos?

01:26:58.420 --> 01:27:00.220
Because I hate those that hate God.

01:27:00.220 --> 01:27:01.540
You're saying you hate sodomites?

01:27:01.540 --> 01:27:03.540
I hate all sodomites, yes.

01:27:03.540 --> 01:27:04.860
I hate all reprobates.

01:27:04.860 --> 01:27:06.300
Well, how could you possibly hate someone?

01:27:06.300 --> 01:27:08.340
Well, because they hate God.

01:27:08.340 --> 01:27:09.980
Do you think that I would get along

01:27:09.980 --> 01:27:11.940
with someone that hates my wife?

01:27:12.500 --> 01:27:18.940
If someone's just trashing my wife, speaking evil of my wife, attacking my wife, hating

01:27:18.940 --> 01:27:21.500
my wife, do you think I'm going to be friends with that person?

01:27:21.500 --> 01:27:23.300
Do you think I'm going to like that person?

01:27:23.300 --> 01:27:24.300
Absolutely not.

01:27:24.300 --> 01:27:29.220
Okay, how much more someone that hates God, who we should love God infinitely more than

01:27:29.220 --> 01:27:30.340
any human being in this world?

01:27:30.700 --> 01:27:35.280
We're supposed to love the Lord our God with all of our heart all of our mind all of our soul all of our strength

01:27:35.500 --> 01:27:41.520
Nothing is to come close in comparison to our love for God. So if there are people out there hating God

01:27:42.020 --> 01:27:46.280
Speaking against him wickedly taking his name in vain hating God. Yeah, I hate them

01:27:46.280 --> 01:27:49.080
I hate those people and look at also go to Psalm chapter number five

01:27:49.780 --> 01:27:55.060
Because the Bible doesn't teach just that oh we should hate people that God hates the Bible also

01:27:55.580 --> 01:27:58.380
Teaches that God hates certain people

01:27:59.700 --> 01:28:04.060
Okay, look at Psalm chapter 5 verse 5.

01:28:04.060 --> 01:28:06.740
The foolish shall not stand in thy sight.

01:28:06.740 --> 01:28:11.580
Look at this, thou hatest all workers of iniquity.

01:28:11.580 --> 01:28:13.740
You know who workers of iniquity are?

01:28:13.740 --> 01:28:14.740
Reprobates.

01:28:14.740 --> 01:28:18.780
You can just insert, workers of iniquity, Romans 1.

01:28:18.780 --> 01:28:21.420
Thou hatest all workers of iniquity, the Bible says.

01:28:21.420 --> 01:28:23.100
Look at verse number 6.

01:28:23.500 --> 01:28:27.180
Thou shalt destroy them that speak leasing.

01:28:27.180 --> 01:28:28.980
That's an old word for lying.

01:28:28.980 --> 01:28:34.740
Thou notice the Lord will abhor that means hate the bloody and deceitful man.

01:28:34.740 --> 01:28:40.340
Go to Psalm 11, Psalm 11, Psalm 11.

01:28:40.340 --> 01:28:41.380
Look at verse number five.

01:28:41.380 --> 01:28:47.780
The Lord trieth the righteous, but the wicked and him that loveth violence, his soul hate

01:28:47.780 --> 01:28:48.280
creative.

01:28:48.700 --> 01:28:54.700
In Amos it talks about all their wickedness was in Gilgal. Therefore I hated them.

01:28:54.700 --> 01:28:59.600
I mean here's the thing, people that say God doesn't hate you, it's like you are just arguing with God.

01:28:59.700 --> 01:29:04.580
You're just sitting here telling me the bible isn't real. You just don't believe the bible. No god does hate certain people

01:29:05.060 --> 01:29:09.540
Now look it is a fraction of the population. It is a small percentage of the population

01:29:09.700 --> 01:29:10.180
But you know what?

01:29:10.180 --> 01:29:12.660
There is some people that god hates and you know what?

01:29:12.740 --> 01:29:18.420
I love the vast majority of human beings and i'm making it my life's goal to preach the gospel to every creature

01:29:18.500 --> 01:29:23.080
That's what many people here are doing as well. But you know what? There's a small part of the population that we hate

01:29:23.600 --> 01:29:30.140
They're called sodomites. They're called reprobates. They're called pedophiles. They're called child molesters. They're called people that hate God

01:29:30.360 --> 01:29:32.720
Yes, we hate them now. Here's the thing

01:29:32.960 --> 01:29:38.200
Well, man, I've never heard this before probably because you haven't been in a church that's singing these as a song

01:29:38.600 --> 01:29:43.080
Whereas like we literally sing Psalm 139 and it's like do not I hate them. Oh lord that hate thee

01:29:43.080 --> 01:29:46.520
I hate them with perfect hatred. I count them my enemies. It's like how do you have that memorized product?

01:29:46.520 --> 01:29:50.480
I've sang it so many times. How do you know this doctrine because we've saying it so many times, you know

01:29:50.480 --> 01:29:55.080
We want the kids to know this doctrine. They're not gonna be confused in this doctrine because they're singing it

01:29:56.040 --> 01:30:02.440
Okay, so what's the most important thing about a song is the message it is teaching. That's the most important thing

01:30:02.900 --> 01:30:06.700
The values, the morals, the message, the doctrine that a song is teaching.

01:30:06.700 --> 01:30:08.100
That is the most important thing.

01:30:08.100 --> 01:30:09.500
Because I'm not getting up here and saying,

01:30:09.500 --> 01:30:12.400
Oh, all traditional songs are good because they're traditional.

01:30:12.400 --> 01:30:15.800
Because guess what? There's songs in our hymnal that we will not sing

01:30:15.800 --> 01:30:17.700
because of the message that it teaches.

01:30:17.700 --> 01:30:20.000
Like, victory in Jesus.

01:30:20.800 --> 01:30:22.400
Why? Because it says,

01:30:22.400 --> 01:30:25.900
Then I repented of my sins and won the victory.

01:30:26.300 --> 01:30:27.800
It teaches a false gospel.

01:30:28.400 --> 01:30:31.100
And yet I feel like some people, they just shut their brain off

01:30:31.100 --> 01:30:32.340
when they sing.

01:30:32.340 --> 01:30:34.180
And a lot of old IFB churches who

01:30:34.180 --> 01:30:36.180
teach the right doctrine of salvation,

01:30:36.180 --> 01:30:38.260
everyone's just getting up, singing,

01:30:38.260 --> 01:30:43.340
and I repented of my sins and won the victory.

01:30:43.340 --> 01:30:45.740
It's like, that's not how you win the victory.

01:30:45.740 --> 01:30:48.260
Faith is the victory that overcome at the world.

01:30:48.260 --> 01:30:50.140
We have victory through Jesus.

01:30:50.140 --> 01:30:52.220
And then you just contradicted yourself by saying,

01:30:52.220 --> 01:30:53.980
oh, I got the victory by what I did.

01:30:54.400 --> 01:30:57.160
I mean what a contradictory stupid song.

01:30:57.160 --> 01:30:58.280
Does it have a good melody?

01:30:58.280 --> 01:30:59.320
Yes.

01:30:59.320 --> 01:31:00.240
Does it sound good?

01:31:00.240 --> 01:31:01.120
Yes.

01:31:01.120 --> 01:31:02.480
Do you like everything about it?

01:31:02.480 --> 01:31:04.520
Pretty much, except for that part.

01:31:04.520 --> 01:31:05.160
And so guess what?

01:31:05.160 --> 01:31:06.100
We don't sing that song.

01:31:06.600 --> 01:31:09.320
And whenever I'm visiting a church and they sing it, I always sing,

01:31:09.320 --> 01:31:12.200
then I believed in Jesus Christ.

01:31:12.200 --> 01:31:15.080
You know, it's really funny, we did a missions trip in the Bahamas,

01:31:15.080 --> 01:31:18.920
and there was just this horde of new IFB soul winners, like 60 of us.

01:31:18.920 --> 01:31:21.240
And we go to this old IFB church and they sang that.

01:31:21.240 --> 01:31:24.280
We all just screamed, then I believed in Jesus Christ and won the victory.

01:31:24.280 --> 01:31:27.080
And some of the people are like, you know, like, what's going on?

01:31:27.080 --> 01:31:29.880
But it's like, we're not singing that we repented of our sins to win the victory

01:31:29.880 --> 01:31:31.080
because that's a false gospel.

01:31:31.700 --> 01:31:37.620
So again, it's not like oh old song traditional song automatically good. The most important thing is what it is teaching

01:31:38.340 --> 01:31:42.660
A lot of the hymns teach a pre-trib rapture. We don't sing that because it's teaching a pre-trib rapture

01:31:43.300 --> 01:31:45.540
Okay. Now listen to what these songs are teaching

01:31:46.580 --> 01:31:48.660
Look and live this is a song in our hymnal

01:31:49.380 --> 01:31:52.200
It says life is offered unto you. Hallelujah

01:31:52.900 --> 01:31:54.420
eternal life

01:31:54.420 --> 01:31:56.400
thy soul shall have

01:31:56.500 --> 01:31:59.900
If you'll only look to him, hallelujah,

01:31:59.900 --> 01:32:02.980
look to Jesus who alone can save.

01:32:02.980 --> 01:32:04.900
So much doctrine already in that.

01:32:04.900 --> 01:32:07.300
Life is offered unto you.

01:32:07.300 --> 01:32:09.580
Whosoever will, let him come and take

01:32:09.580 --> 01:32:11.060
of the water of life freely.

01:32:11.060 --> 01:32:12.500
Calvinists can't sing this.

01:32:12.700 --> 01:32:16.300
Life may or may not be offered unto you, hallelujah,

01:32:16.300 --> 01:32:18.340
depending if God preordained you to be burned in hell

01:32:18.340 --> 01:32:20.000
from the foundation of the world.

01:32:20.000 --> 01:32:22.000
Like, how would they sing a song like that?

01:32:22.000 --> 01:32:23.700
They can't sing life is offered unto you

01:32:23.700 --> 01:32:25.100
because they believe God picks and chooses

01:32:25.100 --> 01:32:26.940
who is going to hell and who's going to heaven

01:32:26.940 --> 01:32:28.140
based on nothing.

01:32:28.140 --> 01:32:30.180
Whereas we're saying, hey, we're going out knocking doors.

01:32:30.180 --> 01:32:32.180
Life is offered unto you.

01:32:32.180 --> 01:32:33.540
Hey, all you have to do is what?

01:32:33.540 --> 01:32:34.380
Look and live.

01:32:34.700 --> 01:32:39.360
Look and live look to Jesus who alone can save right?

01:32:39.360 --> 01:32:46.840
No man goes unto the father but through Jesus the son great doctrine already look and live my brother live look to Jesus now

01:32:46.840 --> 01:32:54.020
And live tis recorded in his word hallelujah, right? Hey, why are we preaching this because the Bible says this not preaching our opinion

01:32:54.020 --> 01:32:57.320
It's recorded in his word. It is only that you look and live

01:32:57.800 --> 01:33:04.060
Will tell you how I came hallelujah to Jesus when he made me whole was believing on his name

01:33:04.820 --> 01:33:06.560
hallelujah, I

01:33:06.560 --> 01:33:12.520
Trusted and he saved my soul. It's not I will tell you how I came. I was an MS 13 gang member

01:33:13.100 --> 01:33:18.820
Was a prostitute for 50 years. I was this I was that that's a lot of churches are I'll tell you how I came man

01:33:18.820 --> 01:33:22.660
I was so sinful. I was so wicked and then I repented of my sins and won the victory

01:33:22.700 --> 01:33:26.080
It's like let me tell you how I came I believed in Jesus

01:33:26.080 --> 01:33:30.500
Oh, and in case you don't know what believe means I trusted and he saved my soul

01:33:30.660 --> 01:33:36.600
That's what Ephesians chapter one teaches that believing is trusting so you can't even sing that and be confused like well

01:33:36.600 --> 01:33:41.100
Yeah, you believe but believe actually means live a good life. That's what a lot of churches teach. It's like let me clear

01:33:41.100 --> 01:33:47.340
us up for you. I believed in him and I trusted in him and that's how I'm saved. How about

01:33:47.340 --> 01:33:55.340
this song? Jesus paid it all. Not half, not 99%. He paid it all. For nothing good have

01:33:55.340 --> 01:33:57.900
I, whereby thy grace to claim.

01:33:58.400 --> 01:34:03.600
I mean yesterday me and brother cam and we're out preaching the gospel and this one guy he was so stuck on works and he was

01:34:03.600 --> 01:34:08.240
Just saying he's like look. I have a good heart. He said all of my intentions are right all the time

01:34:08.240 --> 01:34:10.240
Is that not what he said?

01:34:10.240 --> 01:34:16.320
All of my intentions are right all the time. We're saying nothing good. Have I

01:34:16.900 --> 01:34:22.420
Whereby thy grace to claim the unsaved this world are saying my intentions are good. I live a good life

01:34:22.420 --> 01:34:25.860
I got baptized. I don't cuss anymore. I don't drink

01:34:25.860 --> 01:34:31.420
I don't do drugs just saying all the good that they have to claim the grace of God if you had something to claim

01:34:31.420 --> 01:34:35.500
God's grace it would no longer be grace because grace is something you don't deserve

01:34:35.880 --> 01:34:40.020
You know we're telling people I don't deserve salvation. You don't deserve salvation

01:34:40.260 --> 01:34:43.560
There's one way that you can claim God's grace is through Jesus Christ

01:34:44.700 --> 01:34:49.640
I'll wash my garments white in the blood of Calvary's lamb John MacArthur

01:34:50.100 --> 01:34:53.800
Hey without the shedding of blood. There's no remission of sins

01:34:53.840 --> 01:34:57.880
How could you sing this song if you don't believe that you're actually washed by the blood?

01:34:59.220 --> 01:35:04.500
Jesus paid it all all to him. I owe sin hath left a crimson stain

01:35:04.540 --> 01:35:08.700
He washed it white as snow great doctrine the Mormons can't sing this

01:35:09.300 --> 01:35:16.500
The repent of your sins heretics can't sing this the Muslims can't sing this the Freemasons can't sing this like they can with CCM

01:35:17.380 --> 01:35:19.580
Okay, how about this song on Christ the solid rock?

01:35:20.600 --> 01:35:25.480
My hope is built on nothing less than Jesus blood and righteousness

01:35:25.920 --> 01:35:29.880
Right Jesus is the spotless lamb of God. We believe in the

01:35:30.600 --> 01:35:35.460
Substitutionary death of Christ that he was fully righteous. He took our sin

01:35:35.460 --> 01:35:39.100
We took his righteousness and that's the only way we have hope

01:35:39.620 --> 01:35:42.560
My hope is built on nothing less than Jesus blood and righteousness

01:35:42.560 --> 01:35:47.480
I dare not trust the sweetest frame, but holy lean on Jesus name

01:35:48.000 --> 01:35:53.920
Christ the solid rock I stand all other ground is sinking sand I believe in

01:35:53.920 --> 01:35:57.360
Jesus but I also think we should get baptized I also think we need to go

01:35:57.360 --> 01:36:01.080
through the catechism and go through all the confession no no it's all sinking

01:36:01.080 --> 01:36:06.120
sand beside Jesus all other ground is sinking sand when he shall come with

01:36:06.120 --> 01:36:13.200
trumpet sound oh may I then in him be found dressed in his righteousness alone

01:36:13.600 --> 01:36:17.400
Faultless to stand before the throne. How do you know I'm going to heaven?

01:36:17.400 --> 01:36:22.880
How do I know that I'm gonna stand faultless before the throne of God is because I have Christ's righteousness imputed unto me

01:36:23.200 --> 01:36:30.700
Hey, I won't even trust on the sweetest frame. I'm only leaning on Jesus name. What great doctrine in these hymns

01:36:31.200 --> 01:36:33.200
How about this song nothing but the blood?

01:36:34.220 --> 01:36:37.920
Nothing can for sin atone nothing but the blood of Jesus

01:36:38.400 --> 01:36:44.240
Nothing but the blood of Jesus. Oh precious is the flow that makes me white as snow

01:36:44.560 --> 01:36:48.480
No other founts. I know nothing but the blood of Jesus

01:36:48.480 --> 01:36:53.120
He is the only way to heaven his blood is the only way to heaven go to Daniel chapter 3

01:36:53.120 --> 01:36:55.920
I said number one music is an essential part of the Christian life

01:36:56.720 --> 01:37:01.520
Number two music affects your spirit number three music is teaching you

01:37:03.900 --> 01:37:06.900
Music is associated with a certain culture.

01:37:08.220 --> 01:37:12.900
This is why there may be a musical instrument that may not necessarily be wrong,

01:37:12.900 --> 01:37:16.300
but I don't necessarily want to in church because it's associated with a certain culture.

01:37:16.300 --> 01:37:17.900
Look at Daniel three verse four.

01:37:25.000 --> 01:37:32.000
Then in herald cried aloud to you it is commanded O people nations and languages that at what time you hear the

01:37:32.240 --> 01:37:37.920
Sound of the coronet flute harp sackbutt sultry dulcimer and all kinds of music

01:37:38.120 --> 01:37:42.560
you fall down and worship the golden image that Nebuchadnezzar the king had set up and

01:37:43.000 --> 01:37:50.040
Whoso falleth not down and worshipeth shall be the same hour shall the same hour be cast into amidst

01:37:50.120 --> 01:37:52.120
the midst of a burning fiery furnace

01:37:52.700 --> 01:37:58.100
Therefore, at that time, when all the people heard the sound of the cornet, flute, harp,

01:37:58.100 --> 01:38:04.320
sackbut, psaltery, and all kinds of music, all the people, the nations, and the languages

01:38:04.320 --> 01:38:10.860
fell down and worshiped the golden image that Nebuchadnezzar the king had set up.

01:38:10.860 --> 01:38:16.540
Notice that Babylon's music was associated with Babylon's false religion.

01:38:17.100 --> 01:38:21.740
Now, does the Bible tell us, does the Bible give us the notes of what this sounded like?

01:38:21.740 --> 01:38:26.460
Do we have the sheet music of Babylon's false religion music?

01:38:26.460 --> 01:38:30.300
No, but I bet you, you could recognize it when you heard it.

01:38:30.600 --> 01:38:37.260
Betcha if you're in the plains of Shinar and you hear the certain sound I bet you're like, oh, that's Nebuchadnezzar's music

01:38:37.260 --> 01:38:42.120
That's involved with worshiping a false. God just like you go to a Catholic church

01:38:42.120 --> 01:38:48.580
And there's gonna be a certain kind of chanting right where the ether orthodox church. They have like this Gregorian chanting

01:38:48.580 --> 01:38:50.580
It's like they just have a certain culture

01:38:51.280 --> 01:38:57.360
Associated with that music right so it's like I don't know what Babylon's music sounded like but the people I'm sure at the time

01:38:57.360 --> 01:38:58.600
Could tell that hey

01:38:58.600 --> 01:39:01.600
Oh, this is the song for worshiping a false God

01:39:01.600 --> 01:39:09.280
Oh, this is that song where people get down on their face and worship Babylon worship Nebuchadnezzar's golden image

01:39:09.280 --> 01:39:12.280
Okay, this is not a one-off story in the Bible go to Exodus 32

01:39:13.160 --> 01:39:15.160
Exodus 32 now, here's the thing

01:39:16.040 --> 01:39:19.240
The world has a spirit right? We're not supposed to love the things of the world

01:39:19.240 --> 01:39:20.920
Why because all the things in this world?

01:39:20.920 --> 01:39:25.840
They don't have the love of God the lust of the flesh the the pride of life all these things

01:39:26.400 --> 01:39:30.400
The devil himself, if you read Ezekiel, is a musical creation.

01:39:30.400 --> 01:39:34.400
Okay? His body is a musical instrument, if you read Ezekiel.

01:39:34.400 --> 01:39:38.400
So again, are we supposed to really believe that the devil is a musician?

01:39:38.400 --> 01:39:44.400
The devil is a master musician, but just all music in this world is just morally ambivalent.

01:39:44.400 --> 01:39:45.800
Wouldn't that be crazy?

01:39:46.000 --> 01:39:50.600
Like the devil himself is a musical instrument. He's producing world music

01:39:50.600 --> 01:39:55.880
I would say that there are types of music in this world. There's the devil's music that the devil I mean some musical

01:39:56.980 --> 01:40:01.900
Musicians they even say like that. They didn't even write their song that they feel like a dark spirit came over them

01:40:01.960 --> 01:40:06.200
There's rock songs that you play backwards and it's literally a completely different message

01:40:06.480 --> 01:40:10.020
Like some of these people are literally demon possessed. What is the song stairway to heaven?

01:40:10.600 --> 01:40:14.800
Stairway to heaven you play it backwards. It's got all sort of satanic things

01:40:14.800 --> 01:40:19.480
It's because there's demons behind a lot of these songs. The devil is behind a lot of these songs

01:40:20.600 --> 01:40:26.320
Exodus 32 verse 17 and when Joshua heard the noise of the people as they shouted

01:40:26.360 --> 01:40:29.960
He said unto Moses there is a noise of war in the camp

01:40:30.500 --> 01:40:36.220
And he said, it is not the voice of them that shout for mastery, neither is it the voice

01:40:36.220 --> 01:40:39.500
of them that cry for being overcome.

01:40:39.500 --> 01:40:44.580
Notice, but the noise of them that sing do I hear.

01:40:44.580 --> 01:40:51.380
And it came to pass, as soon as he came nigh unto the camp, that he saw the calf and the

01:40:51.380 --> 01:40:52.380
dancing.

01:40:52.380 --> 01:40:57.820
And Moses' anger waxed hot, and he cast the tables out of his hands and break them beneath

01:40:57.820 --> 01:40:58.400
them out.

01:40:58.700 --> 01:41:04.060
So notice Joshua hears something he hears he's like this is like the the sound of war but he's like wait a second

01:41:04.300 --> 01:41:10.700
It doesn't sound like they're being destroyed by an enemy and it doesn't sound like they're destroying an enemy. Oh, what is that? They're singing

01:41:11.500 --> 01:41:17.500
They're singing a song and what was what what were they doing in conjunction conjunction with singing the song?

01:41:17.740 --> 01:41:20.240
They were worshiping a false idol

01:41:20.700 --> 01:41:26.700
Why? Because there is a certain type of culture that goes along with a certain type of music.

01:41:26.900 --> 01:41:30.800
And I'm pretty sure that they were not singing to God be the glory

01:41:30.800 --> 01:41:36.000
I'm pretty sure they're not singing Jesus paid it all pretty sure they're not singing it as well with my soul

01:41:36.000 --> 01:41:41.560
They were singing something some sort of song that had a culture going along with false religion nebuchadnezzar

01:41:41.560 --> 01:41:49.180
He's playing music that goes along with false religion. What am I saying? There is a certain culture associated with a certain type of music

01:41:49.600 --> 01:41:55.760
Now look we have to make those judgments for ourselves because the bible does not give us a song list or a song sheet

01:41:56.160 --> 01:41:58.160
But this principle is true

01:41:58.160 --> 01:42:03.440
That there is a certain type of music that goes along with a certain type of culture

01:42:04.560 --> 01:42:05.920
Go if you would

01:42:05.920 --> 01:42:07.920
to jeremiah chapter six

01:42:08.080 --> 01:42:10.080
Now let's think about this

01:42:10.480 --> 01:42:13.520
Let's look at a church today that has ccm

01:42:14.480 --> 01:42:16.960
What kind of culture I wonder are we going to find?

01:42:17.300 --> 01:42:21.460
We are going to find weak, effeminate, watered down,

01:42:21.460 --> 01:42:24.100
soft preaching, light on doctrine,

01:42:24.100 --> 01:42:25.900
not taking a stand of anything,

01:42:25.900 --> 01:42:27.540
not fighting the Lord's battles,

01:42:27.540 --> 01:42:28.940
not preaching hard on sin.

01:42:28.940 --> 01:42:32.940
We are going to see a weak, watered down culture.

01:42:32.940 --> 01:42:35.380
Is there any coincidence that all the churches

01:42:35.380 --> 01:42:39.300
that sing CCM music are super weak in their doctrine?

01:42:39.400 --> 01:42:45.040
Show me the King James only soul winning hard preaching church that's seeing CCM show it to me

01:42:45.120 --> 01:42:50.400
You won't be able to find it. You know why because there's a certain type of culture that goes with a certain type of music

01:42:50.400 --> 01:42:57.240
Okay, let's think about this world's music rap music has a certain kind of culture. You know what it is

01:42:57.240 --> 01:42:59.240
It's a culture that glorifies

01:42:59.320 --> 01:43:00.300
violence

01:43:00.500 --> 01:43:03.660
that glorifies the degradation of women,

01:43:03.660 --> 01:43:06.040
that glorifies the love of money,

01:43:06.040 --> 01:43:08.840
that glorifies hating police officers,

01:43:08.840 --> 01:43:13.180
hating authority, not knowing how to put a belt on,

01:43:13.180 --> 01:43:16.020
not having a father, I'm just being honest right now,

01:43:16.020 --> 01:43:19.020
that's the culture that is associated with rap music.

01:43:19.020 --> 01:43:21.860
It's trash, it's garbage.

01:43:21.860 --> 01:43:23.460
And how crazy is it that we have people

01:43:23.460 --> 01:43:25.760
try to make Christian rap music?

01:43:25.760 --> 01:43:25.900
you

01:43:26.200 --> 01:43:32.040
That's just crap. Okay, Christian rap is just crap. It's garbage. Okay, we don't need to have Christian rap music

01:43:32.040 --> 01:43:37.400
We should just stay away with it from it because there's a certain culture that's associated with it. Okay rock music

01:43:38.360 --> 01:43:42.840
Has a certain type of culture. Okay, let's think about like the heyday of rock

01:43:42.840 --> 01:43:46.680
What would that be the 80s and you know what 80s rock is?

01:43:46.840 --> 01:43:51.640
I don't get how people glorify the 80s so much. What was with all these guys dressing up like women?

01:43:52.600 --> 01:43:54.600
All these bands that you love so much,

01:43:54.600 --> 01:43:57.520
have you ever looked at the cover of the album?

01:43:57.520 --> 01:44:01.720
It's like dudes dressing like women, dudes putting on makeup,

01:44:01.720 --> 01:44:03.640
dudes growing their hair out long.

01:44:03.640 --> 01:44:04.480
What else do they do?

01:44:04.480 --> 01:44:06.960
They have their groupies, fornication.

01:44:06.960 --> 01:44:07.800
What else they do?

01:44:07.800 --> 01:44:09.760
They're really big into drugs.

01:44:09.760 --> 01:44:13.040
This is not a godly culture associated with it, OK?

01:44:13.040 --> 01:44:13.840
What about country?

01:44:13.840 --> 01:44:15.600
Oh, country, that's godly.

01:44:15.600 --> 01:44:16.840
No, it's not.

01:44:16.840 --> 01:44:18.400
You know what country music glorifies?

01:44:18.400 --> 01:44:19.040
Drinking beer.

01:44:19.900 --> 01:44:25.820
Losing your wife lost my wife. Oh got another divorce another divorce country music does not glorify God

01:44:26.220 --> 01:44:32.760
It's teaching the world's message as well. And usually when it does mention God, it's perverting doctrine. It's blasphemous

01:44:32.760 --> 01:44:36.020
It's calling God the man upstairs the big boss

01:44:36.660 --> 01:44:41.820
The man no, it's just it's the Lord Jesus Christ. It's the Lord God of hosts the Lord God Almighty

01:44:42.900 --> 01:44:44.900
Okay, techno music.

01:44:44.900 --> 01:44:46.900
What kind of culture goes along with techno music?

01:44:46.900 --> 01:44:48.900
A bunch of feminine Europeans doing drugs,

01:44:48.900 --> 01:44:50.600
taking psychedelic drugs.

01:44:50.800 --> 01:44:53.640
You go to some sort of techno show in Germany.

01:44:53.640 --> 01:44:55.640
Do you really think you're gonna be among a good culture?

01:44:55.640 --> 01:44:56.840
No, you're not.

01:44:56.840 --> 01:44:59.080
You're gonna be around a bunch of atheists

01:44:59.080 --> 01:45:01.680
that despise the Bible, that are getting high.

01:45:01.680 --> 01:45:02.840
You're gonna be around a bunch of women

01:45:02.840 --> 01:45:05.800
that are taking their clothes off and throwing them around.

01:45:05.800 --> 01:45:08.120
This is what, I'm just being honest, this is how it is.

01:45:08.120 --> 01:45:09.800
This is how this world's music is.

01:45:09.800 --> 01:45:12.560
There's a bad culture that goes along with it.

01:45:12.560 --> 01:45:15.720
Let me say this, there is no godly culture

01:45:15.720 --> 01:45:17.760
that goes along with this world music.

01:45:18.500 --> 01:45:25.060
There isn't show me a genre of this world's music where there's a godly culture associated with it. It does not exist

01:45:25.540 --> 01:45:32.580
Okay. Now let's think about other activities a bar or a nightclub. It's going to have a certain culture associated with his music

01:45:33.060 --> 01:45:37.380
I'm picking on the indians i'm going to keep doing so the indian powwow is going to have a certain type of music

01:45:37.700 --> 01:45:43.940
And guess what? There's a certain type of culture there. What's the culture one that hates god and hates the bible is one of that culture

01:45:44.700 --> 01:45:49.700
Okay, so what are we we are anchor Baptist Church? What are we we are a fundamental?

01:45:50.560 --> 01:45:53.000
Baptist Church we are a King James only

01:45:53.700 --> 01:45:55.700
soul-winning hard preaching

01:45:55.980 --> 01:45:57.940
Baptist Church, so you know what I want to do

01:45:57.940 --> 01:46:05.160
I want us to look sound feel believe act like a fundamental Baptist Church because that's who we are

01:46:05.800 --> 01:46:08.520
It wouldn't make sense to just have all the right doctrine,

01:46:08.520 --> 01:46:10.200
all the right stances, but then we're

01:46:10.200 --> 01:46:12.560
just going to adopt a rock culture,

01:46:12.560 --> 01:46:15.320
adopt a country called the cowboy church.

01:46:15.320 --> 01:46:16.720
It's so weird.

01:46:16.720 --> 01:46:19.800
What are we going to have, like punk skater church next?

01:46:19.800 --> 01:46:21.960
Are we going to have Dungeons and Dragons church?

01:46:21.960 --> 01:46:23.680
Like whatever subculture you like,

01:46:23.680 --> 01:46:26.180
we're just going to make a church of your little subculture.

01:46:26.180 --> 01:46:28.680
Baseball fan church, college football fan church,

01:46:28.680 --> 01:46:31.120
it's like, how about just New Testament Christianity?

01:46:31.600 --> 01:46:35.740
It's so weird. It's like well, I like country music. So I'm gonna go to the cowboy church. It's like that's weird

01:46:35.900 --> 01:46:40.920
It's weird that you have that culture. We're a fundamental Baptist Church. We want to look sound and feel like a Baptist Church

01:46:41.560 --> 01:46:43.360
Jeremiah 6 verse 16

01:46:43.360 --> 01:46:48.040
Thus saith the Lord stand ye in the ways and see and ask for the old paths

01:46:48.480 --> 01:46:55.580
wherein is the good way and walk there in and ye shall find rest for your souls, but they said we will not walk there in

01:46:56.100 --> 01:47:03.460
Think about this when we look at the churches of today and of the past that were awesome churches

01:47:04.080 --> 01:47:08.660
Salvation by faith king james only soul winning doing great works for god

01:47:08.820 --> 01:47:12.740
Just name any great church you could think of in the past any great church like that today

01:47:12.900 --> 01:47:15.060
Do you know what they all have in common?

01:47:15.540 --> 01:47:18.840
The traditional songs and hymns that's what they all have in common

01:47:19.200 --> 01:47:25.160
You're not gonna find some great church of the old IFB from the 60s 70s 80s 90s that was doing the CCM

01:47:25.160 --> 01:47:27.860
You're not gonna find it. You are not gonna find today a

01:47:28.500 --> 01:47:33.020
Baptist church doing great works for God go look at the other new IFB churches. Okay, what is it?

01:47:33.020 --> 01:47:37.020
It's all traditional hymns songs and spiritual songs the good old life be churches up today

01:47:37.020 --> 01:47:40.540
It's all traditional hymns songs and spiritual song spiritual songs

01:47:40.540 --> 01:47:44.720
Is that a coincidence you think or is that just reality that what we see?

01:47:46.100 --> 01:47:52.500
Okay, so now I've given you the Bible's principles. Okay, the Bible's principles is that music is very important

01:47:52.980 --> 01:47:59.460
Music affects your spirit music is teaching you music has a certain culture associated with it

01:47:59.700 --> 01:48:03.940
So we take those biblical principles now we come to our standards

01:48:04.100 --> 01:48:08.500
Okay, so i'm gonna give you what the standards are for our church and obviously these are my standards as well

01:48:08.580 --> 01:48:13.620
Because i'm the pastor i'm the one making these standards, but this is how I judge music I ask myself

01:48:14.100 --> 01:48:16.440
What spirit does this music have?

01:48:16.440 --> 01:48:19.380
What message is this music teaching?

01:48:19.380 --> 01:48:21.900
What culture is this music promoting?

01:48:21.900 --> 01:48:24.720
And is this music pleasing to God?

01:48:24.720 --> 01:48:26.580
Why do I ask myself those questions?

01:48:26.580 --> 01:48:28.200
Because those are the principles

01:48:28.200 --> 01:48:29.900
that the Bible teaches about music.

01:48:30.100 --> 01:48:34.260
The bible does not give us a list of approved songs and disapproved songs

01:48:34.500 --> 01:48:38.180
It does not give us a list of this note is okay. This note is not okay

01:48:38.420 --> 01:48:45.000
I have to use some discernment. You have to use some discernment in your life filtering music through these principles

01:48:45.620 --> 01:48:49.640
What spirit what message what culture is it pleasing to god? So?

01:48:50.200 --> 01:48:58.620
Come to what is our church's stance on music our church will only ever sing traditional style hymns psalms and spiritual songs

01:48:59.260 --> 01:49:00.900
That's our church's stance

01:49:00.900 --> 01:49:06.980
That will never change why because of the fact that these hymns psalms and spiritual songs

01:49:07.300 --> 01:49:11.120
RT are having the right spirit. They're teaching the right doctrine

01:49:11.260 --> 01:49:15.240
They're promoting the right culture and they are pleasing to God. That's why

01:49:16.200 --> 01:49:19.240
I am not saying that we will not ever sing something new.

01:49:19.340 --> 01:49:21.040
I'm for us singing something new.

01:49:21.140 --> 01:49:24.540
Pastor Shelley has written a lot of the Psalms to music,

01:49:24.640 --> 01:49:27.700
and they came out in the last five years, and they're great.

01:49:27.800 --> 01:49:31.400
But you know what that song is. It's the word of god. So it's obviously gonna have the right spirit

01:49:31.480 --> 01:49:34.040
It's obviously gonna have the right message. It's obviously gonna have the right culture

01:49:34.120 --> 01:49:38.200
It's obviously going to be pleasing to god. I'm not even limiting it at the psalms

01:49:38.600 --> 01:49:42.680
There could be other just spiritual songs that people who are musically gifted, right?

01:49:42.920 --> 01:49:46.860
And let me tell you something if it matches those criteria we will sing it

01:49:47.100 --> 01:49:51.380
Now, my personal preference is I want music to sound traditional.

01:49:51.380 --> 01:49:53.180
I don't want it to sound new age.

01:49:53.180 --> 01:49:54.900
I don't want it to sound like CCM.

01:49:54.900 --> 01:49:56.380
I don't want it to sound like this world.

01:49:56.380 --> 01:49:59.420
I want it to sound traditional because of the culture, right?

01:49:59.420 --> 01:50:00.620
We want to promote that culture.

01:50:00.620 --> 01:50:01.620
Let me say this.

01:50:01.620 --> 01:50:03.260
Our church will never sing CCM.

01:50:04.100 --> 01:50:09.860
should be obvious. We will never promote CCM. Why? Because of the spirit that goes along with CCM,

01:50:09.860 --> 01:50:14.660
which is an effeminate one. Because of what it's teaching, or lack of what it's teaching in that

01:50:14.660 --> 01:50:20.020
case. Because of the culture associated with CCM. A bunch of watered down lame churches not doing

01:50:20.020 --> 01:50:25.300
anything for God. And because I don't think it's pleasing to God. Why? Because oftentimes

01:50:25.300 --> 01:50:27.540
it's super effeminate and effemacy is a sin.

01:50:27.900 --> 01:50:30.320
Okay, let me say this our church will never have

01:50:31.020 --> 01:50:35.760
Sensual style performances, right? Even a lot of good old ivy churches

01:50:35.800 --> 01:50:40.620
They'll just bring up all the young ladies and have them singing a bunch of breathy weird song

01:50:40.620 --> 01:50:44.060
You guys know what I'm talking about where it's kind of like a sensual vibe

01:50:44.180 --> 01:50:48.020
We are not gonna ever have that why because I don't want that spirit

01:50:48.500 --> 01:50:54.040
I don't want to teach that message to our young kids. I don't want to promote that culture. I don't think it's pleasing to God

01:50:54.220 --> 01:50:56.220
That's why that's my stance on that

01:50:56.860 --> 01:50:59.220
Our church will never condone of worldly music

01:50:59.900 --> 01:51:04.860
And let me say this in general because I'm not going to be teaching for doctrines the commandments of men

01:51:05.100 --> 01:51:08.540
I am not going to say hey all worldly music is 100% wrong

01:51:08.700 --> 01:51:14.380
I bet you you could find me cases where some songs are not sinful, but i'm just saying in general

01:51:14.780 --> 01:51:20.220
I am never going to condone of worldly music our church does not condone of worldly music. Why because of its spirit

01:51:20.780 --> 01:51:25.920
Because of what it's teaching because of its culture and because I don't think it's pleasing to god

01:51:26.500 --> 01:51:31.620
I would caution you to be very careful, even with the exceptions when people are looking

01:51:31.620 --> 01:51:32.260
to you as a leader.

01:51:40.000 --> 01:51:45.560
Why is that? Because of the fact that yeah, you might be able to find some songs that aren't that bad

01:51:45.640 --> 01:51:48.760
But you know what your kids don't know how to make that differentiation yet

01:51:48.760 --> 01:51:51.500
The young people in our church don't have the wisdom yet

01:51:51.500 --> 01:51:58.040
And they just see people just endorsing worldly music promoting worldly music and they might go all the way to Taylor Swift

01:51:58.160 --> 01:52:05.120
They might go all the way to what's that horse named Sabrina Carpenter? Okay, it's like we don't want to promote that

01:52:06.000 --> 01:52:08.360
Because again, even if there's some that you like,

01:52:08.360 --> 01:52:09.400
there's some that aren't bad,

01:52:09.400 --> 01:52:11.800
I think even if those people are honest with themselves,

01:52:11.800 --> 01:52:13.480
if they thought like, do I really want my kids

01:52:13.480 --> 01:52:14.480
going to worldly concerts?

01:52:14.480 --> 01:52:16.560
Is that really a scene that I want them to go to?

01:52:16.560 --> 01:52:18.880
Do I really want them blasting death metal?

01:52:18.880 --> 01:52:20.400
Do I really want them listening to these things?

01:52:20.400 --> 01:52:23.240
I think most parents in here would say absolutely not.

01:52:23.240 --> 01:52:26.080
We do not want to promote that to our kids.

01:52:26.080 --> 01:52:27.560
I can't say it's all sinful,

01:52:27.560 --> 01:52:29.520
but I think that any person that's honest

01:52:29.520 --> 01:52:33.360
can agree that the vast majority of it is sinful, okay?

01:52:33.700 --> 01:52:35.860
Go view it to 2nd Corinthians chapter number 6.

01:52:35.860 --> 01:52:37.540
2nd Corinthians chapter number 6.

01:52:37.540 --> 01:52:40.660
So my personal advice would be to set the right example

01:52:40.660 --> 01:52:41.500
and just avoid it.

01:52:43.700 --> 01:52:45.700
You are free in Christ, bro.

01:52:45.700 --> 01:52:48.200
You have, we believe in individual soul liberty.

01:52:48.200 --> 01:52:49.200
You can do whatever you want.

01:52:49.200 --> 01:52:51.000
I am not gonna police people's lives.

01:52:51.000 --> 01:52:53.500
Don't be like, hey, did you see what so-and-so is listening to?

01:52:53.500 --> 01:52:55.900
Don't be like, hey, Pastor, did you see this person at a concert?

01:52:55.900 --> 01:52:58.200
Because I don't care, okay?

01:52:58.200 --> 01:53:01.100
What my job is, is to preach the Word of God

01:53:01.100 --> 01:53:03.900
in a way that I believe is honoring to Christ.

01:53:03.900 --> 01:53:08.100
I come to these standards for our church and for me personally

01:53:08.100 --> 01:53:10.600
from the only desire is to please God.

01:53:10.600 --> 01:53:11.400
That's it.

01:53:11.500 --> 01:53:15.880
It's not it's not that I just really want to step on your Metallica loving toes or something like that

01:53:16.140 --> 01:53:20.660
It's not that I just don't want to be fun. Don't want to have any fun. Honestly. I'm just trying to have our church

01:53:20.660 --> 01:53:22.660
Please God, that's it

01:53:22.740 --> 01:53:24.740
second Corinthians 6 verse 14

01:53:25.140 --> 01:53:30.260
Be not unequally yoked together with unbelievers for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness

01:53:30.620 --> 01:53:36.940
And what communion hath light with darkness and what concord hath Christ with Belial or what part have he that?

01:53:37.400 --> 01:53:43.920
Believeth with an infidel and what agreement at the temple of God with idols for ye are the temple of the living God as God

01:53:43.920 --> 01:53:49.000
Hath said I will dwell in them and walk with them and I will be their God and they shall be my people

01:53:49.720 --> 01:53:54.280
Wherefore come out from among them and be ye separate

01:53:54.680 --> 01:53:59.700
Say at the Lord and touch not the unclean thing and I will receive you

01:54:00.040 --> 01:54:03.100
Here is a command of God be ye separate

01:54:03.800 --> 01:54:09.400
That's what the bible teaches that we are to be separate from this world now. Look, here's what you have to do

01:54:09.720 --> 01:54:14.760
Especially you fathers and you husbands. Here's what you have to do is you have to take the word of god

01:54:15.240 --> 01:54:20.840
You have to take the principles that are taught in the word of god and you have to make personal application in your own life

01:54:21.240 --> 01:54:25.900
To come to your own personal standards, but I will say this you got to be separate somehow

01:54:26.400 --> 01:54:32.120
If you just carte blanche just say like music's 100% morally ambivalent and just all worldly music is fine

01:54:32.120 --> 01:54:35.480
I don't think anyone here believes that but I know that there are Christians who do

01:54:36.040 --> 01:54:42.760
And it's like how can you say that you're separate when you're just listening to all of this stuff that is promote things that are promoting

01:54:43.160 --> 01:54:48.800
Fornication covetousness look that is just too far. But look at the end of the day. You are gonna have to come to your own decision

01:54:48.800 --> 01:54:51.600
But look at the end of the day you are gonna have to come to your own decision

01:54:52.200 --> 01:54:54.600
You're gonna have to make your own standards for your life.

01:54:54.600 --> 01:54:56.760
I as a pastor am not gonna please your life.

01:54:56.760 --> 01:54:58.600
And contrary to what some people may think of pastors,

01:54:58.600 --> 01:54:59.900
I don't want to.

01:54:59.900 --> 01:55:00.740
I really don't.

01:55:00.740 --> 01:55:02.140
I've got my own life to live.

01:55:02.140 --> 01:55:04.040
I've got my own kids to shepherd.

01:55:04.040 --> 01:55:05.480
I'm the pastor of this church.

01:55:05.480 --> 01:55:08.180
So at times I'm gonna give you my personal standards

01:55:08.180 --> 01:55:09.920
because of the fact that I'm setting these standards

01:55:09.920 --> 01:55:11.080
for our church.

01:55:11.300 --> 01:55:16.740
Like this is what our church is doing our church is only gonna have traditional hymns songs

01:55:17.300 --> 01:55:19.460
Psalms and spiritual songs and you know what?

01:55:19.780 --> 01:55:24.820
When it comes to like people in leadership, you can't just bring a new song without telling me without asking me again

01:55:24.820 --> 01:55:26.580
No one here has done that but you know

01:55:26.580 --> 01:55:31.060
This just has to be said from time to time as a pastor last place to go to is Psalm chapter number 69

01:55:31.900 --> 01:55:33.900
Psalm chapter number 69

01:55:34.400 --> 01:55:40.400
You don't have to agree with my exact standards for your personal life, but you do have to support the church's standards in the house of God.

01:55:40.400 --> 01:55:42.400
You do have to do that.

01:55:42.400 --> 01:55:46.400
It is impossible for our kids to completely avoid this world's music.

01:55:46.400 --> 01:55:50.400
There's just no way of going through life without our kids being exposed somewhat to this world's music.

01:55:50.400 --> 01:56:00.400
But I think you as a parent should be very careful in what you promote and allow because of the fact that kids often go way farther than what their parents do.

01:56:00.900 --> 01:56:05.140
What's the phrase? It's what parents do in moderation the kids do in excess. That's true

01:56:05.540 --> 01:56:10.580
And so even if you could handle it you should think about people looking to you as to what whether or not they can handle it

01:56:11.940 --> 01:56:13.940
Okay, look at psalm 69 verse 30

01:56:14.020 --> 01:56:18.260
The bible says I will praise the name of god with a song

01:56:18.980 --> 01:56:21.400
And will magnify him with thanksgiving

01:56:22.180 --> 01:56:26.040
This also notice this shall please the lord

01:56:26.500 --> 01:56:31.500
Better than an ox or bullock that have horns and hooves.

01:56:31.500 --> 01:56:33.500
Here should be your heart as a Christian.

01:56:33.500 --> 01:56:35.500
How can I please the Lord?

01:56:35.500 --> 01:56:37.500
Like no matter your standards on music,

01:56:37.500 --> 01:56:39.500
this is where you should come to in your life

01:56:39.500 --> 01:56:41.500
is saying, hey, I want to come to these standards

01:56:41.500 --> 01:56:43.500
because I want to please God.

01:56:43.500 --> 01:56:44.500
And you know what?

01:56:44.500 --> 01:56:46.500
Music, the right kind of music, the right kind of praise.

01:56:46.500 --> 01:56:49.500
The Bible says, I will praise the name of God with a song

01:56:49.500 --> 01:56:51.500
and will magnify Him with thanksgiving.

01:56:51.500 --> 01:56:53.500
This also shall please the Lord.

01:56:54.200 --> 01:56:55.740
Why am I coming to these standards?

01:56:55.740 --> 01:56:56.580
You know what?

01:56:56.580 --> 01:56:59.500
Because I want Anchor Baptist Church to please the Lord.

01:56:59.500 --> 01:57:00.780
I want you to please the Lord.

01:57:00.780 --> 01:57:02.980
And so you gotta come to these decisions on your own,

01:57:02.980 --> 01:57:04.360
but this is where our church stands.

01:57:04.360 --> 01:57:05.200
Let's pray.

01:57:05.200 --> 01:57:06.560
Lord, thank you so much for your word.

01:57:06.560 --> 01:57:08.900
Thank you for the principles that are found therein.

01:57:09.100 --> 01:57:14.460
Lord, I pray that you would give us each wisdom on how to apply these standards and come to our own

01:57:15.020 --> 01:57:19.340
personal standards in our life. But Lord, I pray that we would all do so with the intention

01:57:19.340 --> 01:57:23.740
of wanting to please you. Lord, I pray that you would just bless the times in our church where

01:57:23.740 --> 01:57:29.260
we are lifting up our voice to you. I pray that you would fill us with the Holy Spirit of God.

01:57:29.260 --> 01:57:34.700
I pray that everyone in this church would strive to sing out loud with joy to their heart because

01:57:34.700 --> 01:57:36.980
because you are worthy of that praise.

01:57:36.980 --> 01:57:37.100
And in.

01:57:37.100 --> 01:57:38.600
In Jesus' name we pray, Amen.

01:57:41.200 --> 01:57:41.900
Hmm

01:57:46.800 --> 01:57:51.800
For our last him this morning, turn if you would to 129.

01:57:55.300 --> 01:57:59.300
Him number 129, rock of ages.

01:58:09.100 --> 01:58:14.100
129-129 Rock of Ages.

01:58:24.400 --> 01:58:26.400
129 let's sing it out all together.
