WEBVTT

09:05.800 --> 09:11.320
is going to be give me oil in my lamp. If you don't have one, we're going to take a

09:11.320 --> 09:15.320
second. You can lift your hand real quick. I want to make sure we get these passed out.

09:15.320 --> 09:15.960
Okay. So

09:44.400 --> 09:52.100
songs we tried to come up with some hand motions. So you can try and do the hand motions with

09:52.100 --> 10:00.900
me if you want. And any of you kiddos, I know a lot of times we normally sit when we sing,

10:00.900 --> 10:04.980
but you can stand for these songs so that way you can do the hand motions a little bit

10:04.980 --> 10:05.980
better.

10:05.980 --> 10:06.100
you

10:16.500 --> 10:20.100
Alright, we're gonna go ahead and sing, Give Me Oil in My Lamp.

10:20.700 --> 10:21.900
There on the first.

10:25.600 --> 10:26.600
On the first.

10:26.600 --> 10:31.600
Give me oil in my lamp, keep it burning.

10:31.600 --> 10:36.600
Give me oil in my lamp, I pray.

10:36.600 --> 10:41.600
Give me oil in my lamp, keep me burning, burning, burning.

10:41.600 --> 10:45.600
Keep me burning till the break of day.

10:46.200 --> 10:55.080
Sing, oh, zanna sing, oh, zanna sing, oh, zanna to the king of kings

10:55.800 --> 11:03.360
sing, oh, zanna sing, oh, zanna sing, oh, zanna to the king

11:03.720 --> 11:09.720
Now we can do this faster i know, my musicians can play this song faster alright so let's give us a little bit more tempo

11:09.720 --> 11:14.160
On the second here we go hide your word in my

11:14.200 --> 11:23.280
heart keep me learning. Hide your word in my heart I pray. Hide your word in my

11:23.280 --> 11:30.600
heart keep me learning learning learning keep me learning till the break of day.

11:31.000 --> 11:40.000
Sing, Hosanna, sing, Hosanna, sing, Hosanna to the King of Kings.

11:40.000 --> 11:47.000
Sing, Hosanna, sing, Hosanna, sing, Hosanna to the King.

11:47.000 --> 11:51.000
Alright, we got it, we got even more tempo. I know we have a little more tempo in there, alright?

11:51.000 --> 11:53.000
So we're gonna do this one even faster, alright?

11:53.700 --> 12:00.100
Here on the last, give me hope in my heart keep me yearning.

12:00.100 --> 12:04.420
Give me hope in my heart I pray.

12:04.420 --> 12:08.740
Give me hope in my heart keep me yearning, yearning, yearning.

12:08.740 --> 12:12.580
Keep me yearning till the break of day.

12:13.500 --> 12:22.300
Sing, O Zannah, sing, O Zannah, sing, O Zannah, to the King of Kings.

12:22.300 --> 12:30.300
Sing, O Zannah, sing, O Zannah, sing, O Zannah, to the King.

12:30.300 --> 12:32.300
Great singing. Let's go ahead and pray.

12:33.300 --> 12:36.660
Thank you, Father, so much for this opportunity to be gathered together.

12:36.660 --> 12:39.780
Thank you so much for all these children and for these families.

12:39.780 --> 12:41.820
I pray that you would bless the preaching this evening.

12:41.820 --> 12:43.860
Thank you so much for Pastor Russell to be here.

12:44.100 --> 12:46.780
I pray that you would bless his sermon and you bless our time.

12:47.180 --> 12:50.300
I pray that you would help us to have hope in our hearts

12:50.300 --> 12:53.460
and to have yearning for the word of God, that we can inspire our children

12:53.460 --> 12:57.180
to love you sincerely and to want to serve you with the rest of their lives.

12:57.180 --> 12:58.660
In Jesus name, we pray. Amen.

12:59.700 --> 13:03.300
So we're going to our next song. It's going to be Ho Ho Ho Hosanna.

13:04.740 --> 13:09.460
Now this one, we're going to actually sing it through a couple different times

13:09.460 --> 13:12.500
and we're going to try and speed it up and we're going to see

13:12.500 --> 13:15.700
if we can sing faster than the musicians can play. You know what I mean? All right?

13:16.500 --> 13:21.300
But we'll give them some time to warm up. All right? Down the first.

13:25.500 --> 13:31.200
Ho, ho, ho, ho, Xana, ha, ha, hallelujah.

13:31.200 --> 13:36.900
He, he, he, he saved me and I've got the joy of the Lord.

13:36.900 --> 13:42.400
Ho, ho, ho, ho, Xana, ha, ha, hallelujah.

13:42.400 --> 13:48.100
He, he, he, he saved me and I've got the joy of the Lord.

13:48.100 --> 13:49.300
Now here's the thing.

13:49.300 --> 13:51.300
I want you kids to stand up with me, all right?

13:51.300 --> 13:53.300
Because you're going to be able to do these motions better, right?

13:53.500 --> 13:54.340
guys stand up.

13:55.200 --> 13:56.580
We're going to speed it up, all right?

13:56.580 --> 13:57.060
Are we ready?

13:57.060 --> 13:58.560
Let's speed it up just a little bit.

13:58.560 --> 13:59.340
Let's try it again.

13:59.340 --> 14:00.340
Ready?

14:00.340 --> 14:03.060
Ho, ho, ho, Hosanna.

14:03.060 --> 14:05.420
Ha, ha, hallelujah.

14:05.420 --> 14:10.220
Hee, hee, hee, hee, save me, and I've got the joy of the Lord.

14:10.220 --> 14:12.540
Ho, ho, ho, Hosanna.

14:12.540 --> 14:14.940
Ha, ha, hallelujah.

14:14.940 --> 14:19.220
Hee, hee, hee, hee, save me, and I've got the joy of the Lord.

14:19.220 --> 14:21.180
All right, we're going to go even faster.

14:21.180 --> 14:22.180
You got to keep up.

14:22.600 --> 14:25.600
Alright, let's go! Are we ready?

14:26.600 --> 14:30.600
Ho ho ho, Hosanna! Ha ha, hallelujah!

14:30.600 --> 14:34.600
Hee hee hee hee, save me and I've got the joy of the Lord!

14:34.600 --> 14:38.600
Ho ho ho, Hosanna! Ha ha, hallelujah!

14:38.600 --> 14:42.400
Hee hee hee hee, save me and I've got the joy of the Lord!

14:42.700 --> 14:44.700
Alright, we're going really fast. Ready?

14:44.700 --> 14:48.200
Oh, that was in a hallelujah.

14:48.200 --> 14:50.200
He's a man, I've got the joy of the Lord.

14:50.200 --> 14:52.200
Alright, good job.

14:52.200 --> 14:54.200
Good job, alright.

14:54.200 --> 14:57.200
I'm going to go through our bullets in real quick.

14:57.200 --> 15:00.700
Again, if you didn't get one, sorry, if you could lift your hand up.

15:00.700 --> 15:03.200
If you still need one, we'll try to get you a bullet in.

15:04.000 --> 15:05.960
On the inside, we have our conference schedule.

15:05.960 --> 15:10.360
So again, tomorrow morning, we're going to be having our annual spelling bee.

15:10.360 --> 15:12.160
It's going to be here at 930.

15:12.160 --> 15:19.160
Just a reminder, there is unfortunately going to be a parade blocking entrance into this

15:19.160 --> 15:20.280
parking area.

15:20.700 --> 15:26.120
At around 10 a.m. So if you came late, you may not be able to get in

15:26.120 --> 15:28.900
So if you come before 930, you should be fine

15:29.160 --> 15:35.200
But just as a word or tip of advice that you wouldn't be able to access directly into our parking lot because they kind of like

15:35.200 --> 15:39.800
Block our whole square off obviously can still walk over but you may not be able to park your vehicle

15:40.260 --> 15:47.100
They should be done well before our spelling be in so you should be able to come and go as long as you arrive on

15:47.160 --> 15:48.700
time or you

15:48.700 --> 15:53.700
live inside the square or you leave appropriately.

15:54.200 --> 15:57.700
That's just a tip of advice, but we do have three different age groups.

15:57.700 --> 16:03.200
I did put the Spelling Bee Words list on our website, and it is going to be based on the

16:03.200 --> 16:05.980
King James Bible as far as the spelling words.

16:05.980 --> 16:11.060
I do have a secret list for those that have got them all memorized perfectly.

16:11.060 --> 16:12.900
Spelling Bee 9.30 a.m.

16:12.900 --> 16:16.500
We'll start with the youngest ages, and then we'll move up as we go through.

16:16.500 --> 16:20.860
It usually takes, just to give an idea, it's about an hour and a half to two hours is what

16:20.860 --> 16:22.180
typically ran for the full time.

16:22.200 --> 16:26.880
just to give people an awareness. Afterwards we're going to have a lunch

16:26.880 --> 16:31.640
and bounce houses at a park. The address is listed there in the bulletin. It's

16:31.640 --> 16:35.160
from noon to 3 p.m. So we'll be serving hot dogs. We'll have some bounce houses that

16:35.160 --> 16:38.880
we've rented for different ages and then we'll have some other activities. So if

16:38.880 --> 16:41.400
you can come out and participate we'd love for you to come out.

16:41.800 --> 16:47.620
Sunday morning, we'll have our typical schedule service times 10 30 a.m. Is going to be the English service

16:47.620 --> 16:50.200
We do have a Spanish service at 9 30. You're always welcome to attend

16:50.460 --> 16:55.940
We also have 2 p.m. Soul winning and then a 4 30 afternoon service and I'll be preaching both of those

16:56.400 --> 17:01.860
We have pastor Corbin Russell with us this evening. Thank you so much for coming out from straight paths Baptist Church and

17:02.880 --> 17:09.460
He's a good friend of ours. I've known him for a long time. And so it's great to have him out here. And so definitely

17:09.800 --> 17:13.160
thank Pastor Russell and consider their church.

17:13.160 --> 17:14.240
They're in Tucson.

17:14.240 --> 17:16.840
Pray for them if you ever like to visit them.

17:16.840 --> 17:20.000
On the right is some other just.

17:20.300 --> 17:25.880
General information about our church on the back. I just take a couple notes about some upcoming events

17:25.880 --> 17:28.380
We have a men's conference that we're hosting in two weeks

17:28.380 --> 17:32.860
So we decided we might as well just have as many conferences as possible all the time

17:32.860 --> 17:39.140
I guess but no, I just we are having a men's conference in a couple weeks and that Friday evening

17:39.140 --> 17:42.260
It's gonna be kind of a similar schedule to tonight

17:42.260 --> 17:47.980
We're gonna have like a evening service preaching with pastor Stephen Anderson coming out preaching for us. It is geared for men only

17:48.300 --> 17:48.600
you

17:48.900 --> 17:54.140
Anyone 18 and up is welcome to attend and then if you're 16 and older and have a chaperone then you're welcome to attend as well

17:54.140 --> 17:57.680
So but it is it is geared for the men

17:57.680 --> 18:04.140
And so obviously we want everyone to attend if possible if you are planning, please just at least register

18:04.500 --> 18:09.820
We can we have a sign-up sheet or you can register online and we want to make sure we're gonna try and have a gift

18:09.820 --> 18:12.680
And a dinner on that Friday night. We just want to make sure that we

18:13.360 --> 18:16.900
Accommodate everybody appropriately there will be Saturday activity

18:16.900 --> 18:21.460
as well. So we've typically had like a Mighty Men's competition. So we're still going to have

18:21.460 --> 18:25.860
that in the morning on Saturday and then we'll have like a group activity after that as well.

18:26.500 --> 18:32.200
Everyone's welcome to participate in those activities from the men's group. We have a fall swap October 25th

18:32.200 --> 18:34.500
We have our annual chili cook-off October 31st

18:35.260 --> 18:36.500
Faith award

18:36.500 --> 18:39.460
Baptist Church has a preaching boot camp in Phoenix, Arizona

18:39.460 --> 18:45.700
If anybody wants to go and learn how to preach better and just get better in general at preaching, that's a great opportunity

18:46.220 --> 18:51.460
We have a Trinidad missions trip November 30th through December 6th

18:51.460 --> 18:54.500
If you are interested if angels for or brother Marcel

18:54.500 --> 18:58.660
from our church is kind of helping spear lead this church and this opportunity.

18:59.940 --> 19:03.860
We do lots of soul winning in our different areas and Shreveport's one that we've kind of

19:03.860 --> 19:08.180
been doing annually. That's going to be December 12th and it's about three hours from here.

19:08.180 --> 19:13.780
It's in Louisiana and honestly it's been a very fruitful area to go soul winning in and so if you

19:13.780 --> 19:17.940
want to participate and then we have a Philippines missions trip that we're going to be doing in

19:17.940 --> 19:21.420
in 2027, it's February 12th through the 20th.

19:21.420 --> 19:22.500
We'll be partnering with.

19:22.500 --> 19:25.860
Soul Winning Baptist Church with Pastor Stuckey. We'll be visiting his church,

19:26.500 --> 19:30.420
going soul winning with them in Manila. And then also we'll be visiting our church plant,

19:31.300 --> 19:37.540
Steadfast Baptist Church Philippines with Evangelist Urbanic. And so it'll be a action packed

19:37.540 --> 19:42.340
week of missions. We're going to have a lot of schools lined up through the efforts of Soul

19:42.340 --> 19:47.460
Winning Baptist Church. They do a great opportunity. They have a great job and a great team lining up a

19:47.460 --> 19:50.340
lot of opportunities to preach in school. So if that's something you'd like to do.

19:50.500 --> 19:53.780
this is kind of a sure bet as far as a missions trip.

19:53.780 --> 19:55.280
You never know if you get these opportunities,

19:55.280 --> 19:56.540
but for the most part,

19:56.540 --> 19:58.720
the Philippines is your safest bet

19:58.720 --> 20:00.880
at getting an opportunity to preach in schools.

20:00.880 --> 20:03.560
Often they're saying that they don't even have enough people

20:03.560 --> 20:05.740
to reach all the classrooms they would like to,

20:05.740 --> 20:08.280
or sometimes there's missed opportunities.

20:08.280 --> 20:11.520
And so it's a great opportunity to preach to a lot of kids,

20:11.520 --> 20:12.360
if you'd like,

20:12.360 --> 20:13.960
obviously just the soul winning there in general

20:13.960 --> 20:16.400
is a very receptive soul winning.

20:16.400 --> 20:18.080
There's just so many people.

20:18.080 --> 20:18.500
It's high.

20:18.500 --> 20:22.860
densely populated and so I'd encourage you if you'd like to ever consider that.

20:23.900 --> 20:29.180
Those are just a couple things that we wanted to highlight for this week.

20:29.180 --> 20:32.860
I appreciate everybody for coming out to our event.

20:32.860 --> 20:37.740
Again, if you have any questions, you could always ask one of our ushers in one of these red jackets.

20:37.740 --> 20:45.820
We did have a welcome area in our fellowship room, and I don't know if everybody was aware of that or if our visitors...

20:45.820 --> 20:51.820
If you are visiting with our church, if you're not a member of our church, we want to give you a gift as well as some other...

20:51.900 --> 20:54.000
things from the welcome table.

20:54.000 --> 20:56.400
The kids should be able to get like a sucker

20:56.400 --> 20:57.240
and stuff like that.

20:57.240 --> 20:59.140
And so we do have something for everyone,

20:59.140 --> 21:00.860
but our visitors, we do have extra gifts

21:00.860 --> 21:01.700
that we'd like to give you.

21:01.700 --> 21:03.460
So if you didn't check in,

21:03.460 --> 21:05.420
you can still check in for another service

21:05.420 --> 21:07.140
or see somebody after the service

21:07.140 --> 21:08.300
and we'd love to get that to you.

21:08.300 --> 21:11.800
So with that, I'm gonna go to our third song.

21:12.200 --> 21:16.880
That we're gonna sing this evening and it's gonna be I'm in the Lord's army

21:16.880 --> 21:22.960
All right now this one. I know you kids got to stand up for all right because I don't know how you're gonna march in your chair

21:22.960 --> 21:25.000
All right, so you kids stand up with me

21:26.200 --> 21:28.540
Because we're in the Lord's army all right

21:34.800 --> 21:44.160
I may never march in the infantry, ride in the cavalry, shoot the artillery.

21:44.160 --> 21:51.280
I may never zoom over the enemy, but I'm in the Lord's army.

21:51.280 --> 21:52.960
Yes, sir!

21:52.960 --> 21:55.840
I'm in the Lord's army.

21:55.840 --> 21:57.440
Yes, sir!

21:57.440 --> 22:00.240
I'm in the Lord's army.

22:00.240 --> 22:01.520
Yes, sir!

22:01.900 --> 22:10.900
I may never march in the infantry, ride in the cavalry, shoot the artillery.

22:10.900 --> 22:17.900
I may never zoom over the enemy, but I'm in the Lord's army.

22:17.900 --> 22:22.900
Yes sir! I think we could do this one again, but with some more tempo again, alright?

22:22.900 --> 22:27.900
You guys gotta give me some pep here, alright? I gotta get some energy.

22:28.500 --> 22:30.340
Here on the first, ready?

22:30.340 --> 22:38.580
I may never march in the infantry, ride in the cavalry, shoot the artillery.

22:38.580 --> 22:45.060
I may never zoom over the enemy, but I'm in the Lord's army.

22:45.060 --> 22:45.780
Yes, sir!

22:46.580 --> 22:49.060
I'm in the Lord's army.

22:49.060 --> 22:49.860
Yes, sir!

22:50.580 --> 22:53.060
I'm in the Lord's army.

22:53.060 --> 22:53.860
Yes, sir!

22:54.600 --> 23:02.600
I may never march in the infantry, ride in the cavalry, shoot the artillery.

23:02.600 --> 23:09.100
I may never zoom over the enemy, but I'm in the Lord's army.

23:09.100 --> 23:10.600
Yes sir!

23:10.600 --> 23:12.600
Great job kids, great job!

23:15.900 --> 23:20.560
Alright, I want you guys to turn in your Bibles to 2 Kings chapter number 5

23:21.560 --> 23:24.040
2 Kings chapter number 5 and

23:24.600 --> 23:31.780
We'll read the entire chapter and then we'll have pastor Russell come up and preach for us 2 Kings chapter number 5

25:10.400 --> 25:16.920
Second, second Kings chapter number five. The Bible says now name and captain of the host of the king of Syria

25:17.180 --> 25:24.200
Was a great man with his master and honorable because by him the Lord had given deliverance unto Syria

25:24.740 --> 25:28.560
He was also a mighty man in valor, but he was a leper

25:29.300 --> 25:36.300
And the Syrians had gone out by companies and had brought away captive out of the land of Israel a little maid,

25:36.300 --> 25:39.300
and she waited on Naaman's wife.

25:39.300 --> 25:47.300
And she said unto her mistress, Would God my Lord were with the prophet that is in Samaria, for he would recover him of his leprosy.

25:47.300 --> 25:53.300
And one went in and told his lord, saying, Thus and thus said the maid that is of the land of Israel.

25:53.800 --> 25:59.320
And the king of Syria said, Go to go and I will send a letter unto the king of Israel.

26:00.040 --> 26:06.280
And he departed and took with him 10 talents of silver and 6000 pieces of gold and 10 changes of

26:06.280 --> 26:11.560
raiment. And he brought the letter to the king of Israel saying, Now when this letter is come unto

26:11.560 --> 26:17.240
thee, behold, I have therewith sent name and my servant to thee, that thou mayest recover him of

26:17.240 --> 26:18.040
his leprosy.

26:19.000 --> 26:24.600
And it came to pass when the king of Israel had read the letter that he rent his clothes and said,

26:24.600 --> 26:31.080
Am I God to kill and to make alive that this man doth send unto me to recover a man of his leprosy?

26:31.960 --> 26:36.360
Wherefore consider I pray you and see how he seeketh a quarrel against me.

26:37.000 --> 26:42.360
And it was so when Elisha the man of God had heard that the king of Israel had rent his clothes

26:42.360 --> 26:45.880
that he sent to the king saying, Wherefore hast thou rent thy clothes?

26:46.400 --> 26:50.960
Let him come now to me, and he shall know that there is a prophet in Israel."

26:51.520 --> 26:56.640
So Naaman came with his horses and with his chariot, and stood at the door of the house of Elisha.

26:57.440 --> 27:00.160
And Elisha sent a messenger unto him, saying,

27:00.160 --> 27:06.080
Go and wash in Jordan seven times, and thy flesh shall come again to thee, and thou shalt be clean.

27:06.720 --> 27:10.000
But Naaman was wroth, and went away and said, Behold!

27:10.400 --> 27:15.840
I thought he will surely come out to me and stand and call on the name of the Lord his God

27:15.840 --> 27:18.880
and strike his hand over the place and recover the leper.

27:19.440 --> 27:25.280
Are not Abana and Farpar rivers of Damascus better than all the waters of Israel?

27:25.280 --> 27:30.000
May I not wash in them and be clean? So he turned and went away in a rage.

27:30.960 --> 27:34.240
And his servants came near and spake unto him and said, My father,

27:34.700 --> 27:39.500
If the prophet had bid thee do some great thing, wouldest thou not have done it?

27:39.500 --> 27:43.260
How much rather than, when he sayeth to thee, Wash and be clean?

27:44.140 --> 27:49.740
Then went he down and dipped himself seven times in Jordan according to the saying of the man of God.

27:49.740 --> 27:54.540
And his flesh came again like unto the flesh of a little child, and he was clean.

27:55.900 --> 27:59.100
And he returned to the man of God, he and all his company,

27:59.100 --> 28:01.100
and came and stood before him.

28:01.100 --> 28:04.820
And he said, behold, now I know that there is no God

28:04.820 --> 28:07.300
in all the earth, but in Israel.

28:07.300 --> 28:11.420
Now therefore I pray thee, take a blessing of thy servant.

28:11.420 --> 28:14.380
But he said, as the Lord liveth before whom I stand,

28:14.380 --> 28:15.860
I will receive none.

28:15.860 --> 28:18.300
And he urged him to take it, but he refused.

28:18.600 --> 28:24.920
And Naaman said, shall there not then, I pray thee, be given to thy servant two mules burden of earth,

28:24.920 --> 28:30.600
for thy servant will henceforth offer neither burnt offering nor sacrifice unto other gods,

28:30.600 --> 28:34.600
but unto the Lord. In this thing the Lord pardoned thy servant.

28:34.900 --> 28:40.420
that when my master goeth into the house of Reman to worship there, and he leaneth on my hand,

28:40.420 --> 28:45.860
and I bow myself in the house of Reman, when I bow down myself in the house of Reman,

28:45.860 --> 28:50.900
the Lord pardoned thy servant in this thing. And he said unto him, Go in peace.

28:50.900 --> 28:56.740
So he departed from him a little way. But Gehazi, the servant of Elisha, the man of God said,

28:57.500 --> 29:03.660
Behold, my master hath spared Naaman the Syrian in not receiving at his hands that which he brought.

29:04.460 --> 29:08.460
But as the Lord liveth, I will run after him and take somewhat of him.

29:09.100 --> 29:13.580
So Gehazi followed after Naaman, and when Naaman saw him running after him,

29:13.580 --> 29:19.660
he lighted down from off the chariot to meet him and said, Is all well? And he said, All is well.

29:20.100 --> 29:25.140
My master hath sent me, saying, Behold, even now there be come to me from Mount Ephraim

29:25.140 --> 29:30.020
two young men of the sons of the prophets. Give them, I pray thee, a talent of silver

29:30.020 --> 29:35.860
and two changes of garment. And Naaman said, Be content, take two talents. And he urged him,

29:35.860 --> 29:40.420
and bound two talents of silver in two bags with two changes of garments,

29:40.420 --> 29:43.780
and laid them upon two of his servants, and they bare them before him.

29:44.400 --> 29:49.120
And when he came to the tower, he took them from their hand and bestowed them in the house,

29:49.120 --> 29:54.080
and he let them in go and they departed. But he went in and stood before his master.

29:54.080 --> 30:00.800
And Elisha said unto him, Whence comest thou, Gehazi? And he said, Thy servant went no wither.

30:00.800 --> 30:07.120
And he said unto him, Went not mine heart with thee, when the man turned again from his chariot to meet thee?

30:07.600 --> 30:16.600
Is it a time to receive money, and to receive garments, and olive yards, and vineyards, and sheep, and oxen, and men servants, and maid servants?

30:16.600 --> 30:21.600
The leprosy therefore of Naaman shall cleave unto thee, and unto thy seed, forever.

30:21.800 --> 30:27.080
and he went out from his presence a leper as white as snow. Let us pray. Dear Heavenly Father,

30:27.080 --> 30:30.520
I want to thank you for this day. Thank you for this conference. I thank you for all the children

30:30.520 --> 30:34.840
gathered here together. I ask you to please bless Pastor Russell now. Please fill him with your

30:34.840 --> 30:39.240
Holy Spirit. Help him to preach the word of God to us and please help us to walk out as better

30:39.240 --> 30:43.640
Christians. In Jesus' name, amen. Amen. Well, it's great to be here with all of you tonight.

30:43.640 --> 30:47.640
I appreciate everyone rounding up the kiddos and dragging them down here on a Friday night.

30:47.640 --> 30:48.920
I know that's not always easy.

30:49.500 --> 30:52.640
And I want to preach tonight on the little maid.

30:52.640 --> 30:55.280
Obviously, in 2 Kings chapter number 5,

30:55.280 --> 30:57.520
we have a very familiar story with Naaman

30:57.520 --> 30:59.540
being healed of his leprosy.

30:59.540 --> 31:01.280
And that's usually what we focus on

31:01.280 --> 31:02.480
when we preach on the sermon.

31:02.480 --> 31:04.860
But we have to remember that the whole reason

31:04.860 --> 31:08.320
that story came about was because of a little girl,

31:08.320 --> 31:09.920
or as the Bible would call her, a little maid.

31:09.920 --> 31:12.160
Of course, we're preaching to the kids tonight.

31:12.160 --> 31:14.560
But obviously, everything I'm preaching tonight

31:14.560 --> 31:16.460
could be just as easily applied to adults.

31:16.460 --> 31:17.300
So I hope.

31:17.400 --> 31:20.000
that will all sit up a little bit and listen.

31:20.000 --> 31:22.200
And really, I think one of the best lessons

31:22.200 --> 31:24.200
that we can learn from the little maid

31:24.200 --> 31:27.480
is that even in the most difficult situation

31:27.480 --> 31:31.180
you might find yourself in, you still need to obey God.

31:31.180 --> 31:34.040
A lot of times people, as they grow older

31:34.040 --> 31:37.780
and find themselves going through things in life,

31:37.780 --> 31:39.980
finding themselves in more difficult situations,

31:39.980 --> 31:43.260
or maybe life doesn't turn out the way that they wanted,

31:43.260 --> 31:44.960
or they're going through some hardship,

31:45.100 --> 31:49.100
sometimes they can use that as an excuse to disobey God.

31:49.100 --> 31:53.900
And quite frankly, there's never a reason to disobey God.

31:53.900 --> 31:56.500
Now, I'd assume that every kid here tonight,

31:56.500 --> 31:58.500
you know, they're not going to be able to relate too much

31:58.500 --> 32:00.300
with the little maid because, as we're about to see,

32:00.300 --> 32:02.800
the little maid had it pretty rough.

32:02.800 --> 32:04.700
And if you're in this church tonight,

32:04.700 --> 32:06.900
as a young person, as a child,

32:06.900 --> 32:08.200
you know, one thing I can tell you

32:08.200 --> 32:10.100
is that you have parents that love you.

32:10.400 --> 32:15.400
that care about you, that want you to grow in the grace and the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

32:15.400 --> 32:19.400
The fact that your pastor is even putting on the conference like this

32:19.400 --> 32:23.400
and inviting a guest preacher out and doing all the things that he's been doing

32:23.400 --> 32:27.400
tells me that you have a pastor that loves the children and the people of this church.

32:27.400 --> 32:32.400
So you're pretty, you know, you're off to a good start in life as a child in this church

32:32.400 --> 32:35.400
with godly parents and a godly pastor.

32:35.500 --> 32:42.780
But nevertheless, you know, so we still need to be reminded that obedience is not something that we do when it's convenient

32:43.020 --> 32:46.420
That when it's easy, it's something that we do because we love God

32:46.420 --> 32:49.820
And if you look there in second Kings chapter number five verse one

32:49.820 --> 32:55.060
It says now name and captive the host king of Syria was a great man with his master and honorable

32:55.600 --> 33:01.620
Because by him the Lord had given deliverance unto Syria. He also was a mighty man in valor

33:02.400 --> 33:09.600
But he was a leper. So it says that the Lord had given deliverance unto Syria. So what we see here

33:09.600 --> 33:15.520
where the little maid is, is that it's during a time of war, right? And we, you know, we can get

33:15.520 --> 33:19.920
that from some of the other chapters here in 2 Kings chapter 6 verse 8, the king of Syria

33:19.920 --> 33:21.760
of war against Israel.

33:21.760 --> 33:24.800
So these two nations are at war with one another.

33:24.800 --> 33:26.680
And also we can learn that.

33:27.200 --> 33:30.560
The Little Maid finds herself not only in a time of war...

33:30.800 --> 33:35.300
but also in a time of spiritual wickedness, even in our own homeland.

33:35.300 --> 33:37.900
I'll just read to you from 2 Kings chapter number 3 in verse 1.

33:37.900 --> 33:38.700
It says,

33:38.700 --> 33:41.700
Now Jehoram the son of Ahab began to reign over Israel and Samaria

33:41.700 --> 33:44.900
on the eighteenth year of Jehoshaphat king of Judah and reigned twelve years.

33:44.900 --> 33:47.700
And he wrought evil in the sight of the Lord,

33:47.700 --> 33:50.000
but not like his father and like his mother,

33:50.000 --> 33:52.800
for he put away the image of Baal and his father had made.

33:52.800 --> 33:55.300
Nevertheless, he cleaned on the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat,

33:55.300 --> 33:57.000
which made Israel to sin.

33:57.000 --> 33:58.700
So this is the situation.

33:58.800 --> 34:03.600
the state of the nation where the little maid finds herself.

34:03.600 --> 34:08.700
She's being taken captive in a time of war, taken to a strange land,

34:08.700 --> 34:12.000
and even before that, you know, she's living in a wicked nation

34:12.000 --> 34:16.200
where there's just a lot of ungodliness, a lot of idolatry taking place.

34:16.200 --> 34:20.400
And yet despite all of that, we see that she has some great attributes

34:20.400 --> 34:22.600
because I believe she is somebody that understood

34:22.600 --> 34:26.400
that there's, it's always the right time to obey God.

34:26.700 --> 34:28.700
that we don't just look at our circumstance and say,

34:28.700 --> 34:31.200
well, I'll obey God if mom and dad have me in a good church.

34:31.200 --> 34:34.400
I'll obey God if my pastor does nice things for me.

34:34.400 --> 34:39.000
I'll obey God, you know, as long as I like the way things are going.

34:39.000 --> 34:41.200
No, we always obey God, no matter what.

34:42.900 --> 34:46.000
One thing to consider here, it says there in 2 Kings 5 verse 2,

34:46.000 --> 34:52.700
and the Syrians had gone out by companies and brought away captive out of the land of Israel a little maid,

34:52.700 --> 34:55.800
and she waited on Naaman's wife.

34:55.800 --> 35:01.000
So this little maid here is literally a captive in Syria.

35:01.000 --> 35:02.700
Now, think about that.

35:02.700 --> 35:06.000
You know, this is the situation she finds, and hopefully I'm not going to give you the kids' nightmares,

35:06.000 --> 35:10.700
but, you know, she's literally been taken captive by the enemy and hauled out.

35:11.400 --> 35:15.400
So, you know, it would be kind of like if someone came in here tonight

35:15.400 --> 35:21.400
and just abducted you kids and just took off and drove to some other place and you never saw mom and dad again.

35:21.400 --> 35:25.400
I mean, that's the situation that she found herself in.

35:25.400 --> 35:32.400
And she's separated from her family, and she's serving the guy who likely, you know,

35:32.400 --> 35:35.400
is the one responsible for her being held captive.

35:36.300 --> 35:40.700
Because it was unto Naaman that the Lord had granted deliverance.

35:40.700 --> 35:43.800
So obviously he's a great man, an honorable man, valor.

35:43.800 --> 35:48.100
You know, he is in part responsible for the little maid

35:48.100 --> 35:53.700
literally being held captive in a foreign land separated from her parents,

35:53.700 --> 35:55.200
or perhaps even worse.

35:56.600 --> 35:59.560
Now it would be really easy for the little maid to make an excuse and say,

35:59.560 --> 36:03.320
well I don't feel like serving God, God did this to me, God allowed this to happen.

36:03.960 --> 36:09.400
But that was not her attitude. She decided that even in that worst circumstance,

36:09.400 --> 36:14.760
separated from her family, in an ungodly nation, that she was going to serve God.

36:17.800 --> 36:24.360
Now, I want to just look at some of the characteristics of the little maid, because I think the little

36:24.360 --> 36:29.840
maid here, we don't know her name, but we do know some things about her.

36:29.840 --> 36:34.880
And there's actually quite a bit we can learn from just her brief part in this story that

36:34.880 --> 36:38.400
I think are great characteristics for kids to have.

36:38.400 --> 36:44.360
And hopefully every child in this room can have the same kind of character.

36:45.000 --> 36:47.400
that the little maid has.

36:47.400 --> 36:51.200
So again, Naaman has taken her captive,

36:51.200 --> 36:53.700
and yet, in spite of that,

36:53.700 --> 36:56.500
she still has respect towards him.

36:56.500 --> 36:59.400
She still addresses the guy

36:59.400 --> 37:01.400
who was leading the army

37:01.400 --> 37:03.600
that raided her homeland

37:03.600 --> 37:04.900
and took her captive.

37:04.900 --> 37:06.500
I mean, think about that.

37:06.500 --> 37:09.100
She still uses respectful terms

37:09.100 --> 37:11.700
in addressing the guy who took her captive.

37:13.100 --> 37:20.600
And the point I want to make is, now, you know, that how much more should children be respectful to those that love them?

37:20.600 --> 37:25.600
Now again, we don't know what, how Naaman treated the little maid.

37:25.600 --> 37:30.600
You know, we can assume that he was decent to her, that he was kind to her, that he took care of her.

37:30.600 --> 37:35.600
But, you know, it's still, it's still the guy who took her captive.

37:36.300 --> 37:42.700
And yet she still manages to think about his well-being, his welfare, and addresses him respectfully.

37:42.700 --> 37:48.380
How much more so should children respect those that love them and care for them?

37:48.380 --> 37:49.880
Right.

37:49.880 --> 37:53.700
And, you know, this is a command of God.

37:53.700 --> 38:00.700
Obviously, when we're preaching to kids, you know, there's really just a few verses perhaps that we would think of to turn to that say,

38:00.700 --> 38:03.340
the Bible is addressing children here directly.

38:04.500 --> 38:10.340
And of course we might think of Ephesians chapter 6 where the Bible tells children specifically to obey their parents.

38:10.340 --> 38:17.060
This is a command of God to honor your elders, to honor those that are older than you.

38:17.060 --> 38:22.180
This is an attribute that the little maid had that every child and every adult,

38:22.180 --> 38:26.260
I know I'm preaching a little bit to the kids but you know we could all learn from this,

38:26.260 --> 38:31.540
is to respect our elders and to address them with respect and to...

38:32.300 --> 38:38.300
Honor them. This is a command of God. I've got a lot of verses, so I'm just going to read through these very quickly.

38:38.300 --> 38:46.300
The Bible says in Leviticus 19, the Bible commands us, God commands us to honor the aged. It says in Leviticus 19 verse 32,

38:46.300 --> 38:54.300
Thou shalt rise up before the hoary head and honor the face of the old man and fear thy God, I am the Lord.

38:54.300 --> 38:56.900
Rise up before the hoary head.

38:56.900 --> 38:59.400
You know, the guy with the white hair, the old man.

38:59.600 --> 39:02.400
and honor the face of the old man.

39:02.400 --> 39:05.200
1 Timothy chapter number five verses one through two,

39:05.200 --> 39:08.480
rebuke not an elder, but entreat him as a father,

39:08.480 --> 39:09.940
the younger men as brethren.

39:09.940 --> 39:11.980
The Bible says in 1 Peter chapter five,

39:11.980 --> 39:15.320
likewise you younger, submit yourselves unto the elder,

39:15.320 --> 39:17.160
ye all of you be subject one to another

39:17.160 --> 39:18.720
and be clothed with humility.

39:18.720 --> 39:21.520
So one of the great things about the little maid

39:21.520 --> 39:22.920
is that she is somebody.

39:23.200 --> 39:28.320
who addresses him with respect. And if you look at verse uh 2 Kings chapter 5 verse 3 it says,

39:28.320 --> 39:34.000
and she said unto her mistress, would God my Lord were with the prophet that is in Samaria.

39:35.520 --> 39:40.080
So she's calling him Lord. She's calling he is my boss. This would be like you know calling

39:40.080 --> 39:45.200
somebody sir right. She's using respectful terms even when she's not in his presence.

39:47.200 --> 39:48.800
How much more so should children

39:49.300 --> 39:56.180
respect and obey those that love them and care for them that are their own parents.

39:56.180 --> 40:02.980
The Bible commands very strongly that children are to honor their parents.

40:02.980 --> 40:04.860
The Bible says in Exodus chapter 20 verse 12,

40:04.860 --> 40:10.780
honor thy father and mother that thy days may be long upon the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee.

40:10.780 --> 40:13.540
And of course, this is the fifth commandment.

40:13.540 --> 40:16.740
And when it's on the list of ten, you know, that's a pretty big deal.

40:17.400 --> 40:20.000
You know, there's a lot of commandments in the Bible, kids.

40:20.000 --> 40:21.700
A lot of them, right?

40:21.700 --> 40:24.200
But not all of them make the top 10.

40:24.200 --> 40:27.100
And right smack dab in the middle of the top 10

40:27.100 --> 40:30.200
is honor thy father and mother.

40:30.200 --> 40:33.700
And the Bible tells us that this is the first commandment with promise,

40:33.700 --> 40:38.500
meaning if you obey this commandment, it's going to be good for you.

40:38.500 --> 40:44.900
You know, it's good for kids to honor and love and respect their parents.

40:45.700 --> 40:49.700
And you know, it would seem like everyone understands that.

40:49.700 --> 40:55.700
But I'm here to tell you today that unfortunately, this is something that is going more and more by the wayside.

40:58.600 --> 41:04.440
where children are being emboldened in thinking that they don't owe their parents anything.

41:05.720 --> 41:11.160
They'll think, oh well my mom and dad did this or my mom and dad did that or they didn't do this or

41:11.160 --> 41:15.080
whatever. They'll make up, you know, they'll feel like they got shortchanged by their parents somehow

41:15.080 --> 41:19.960
or mistreated by their parents somehow and then they think that for some reason the command of

41:19.960 --> 41:22.040
God never applies to them anymore.

41:22.600 --> 41:25.560
Look, I don't care what your parents are doing.

41:25.560 --> 41:28.920
I don't care how they treat you, what they do or don't do.

41:28.920 --> 41:30.520
You are supposed to honor your parents.

41:30.520 --> 41:34.120
I mean, is there an asterisk there in Exodus chapter 20?

41:34.120 --> 41:37.000
Is there a clause somewhere in the Word of God

41:37.000 --> 41:40.600
that I haven't seen where if your parents aren't perfect

41:40.600 --> 41:43.240
in every way, that somehow that excuses children

41:43.240 --> 41:44.920
from not honoring them?

41:44.920 --> 41:45.720
It's not in there.

41:46.520 --> 41:47.800
It's the command of God.

41:48.500 --> 41:50.580
Well, you know, they were just mean and they didn't do that.

41:50.580 --> 41:53.380
Okay, well, you know, the little maid, a little girl,

41:53.380 --> 41:56.180
had enough sense in the land of Syria

41:56.180 --> 41:58.980
when she was serving the guy that took her captive,

41:59.860 --> 42:01.220
and perhaps even orphaned her.

42:01.220 --> 42:02.900
Who knows what happens to her parents?

42:03.620 --> 42:05.460
We're not really even sure how he's treating her.

42:05.460 --> 42:09.140
She's still addressing him as Lord, still addressing him as Master.

42:09.600 --> 42:12.100
still treating him with respect, still honoring him.

42:12.100 --> 42:18.600
How much more should little children love and respect and obey their parents and honor them?

42:18.600 --> 42:20.300
The Bible says it explicitly.

42:20.300 --> 42:22.600
I just read it in Ephesians chapter 6,

42:22.600 --> 42:27.200
children obey your parents in the Lord for this is right.

42:27.200 --> 42:27.900
This is right.

42:27.900 --> 42:30.300
You know, so doing the opposite is what?

42:31.100 --> 42:35.300
Wrong. Thank you. Someone's with me, right? A little trivia for you there on the...

42:35.300 --> 42:40.300
You know, give that man a gift card or something, right? Whoever that was.

42:40.300 --> 42:44.800
They know the difference between right and wrong, right? This is right.

42:44.800 --> 42:50.100
Meaning if you're not doing this, you're wrong. And there's no yeah, but about it.

42:50.100 --> 42:55.400
There's no excuse. There's no clause where you could say, well, you know, I get a pass when it comes to honoring my parents

42:55.400 --> 42:57.600
because X, Y, Z. No, it's not there.

42:58.800 --> 43:02.960
You're supposed to obey your parents. This is right. Honor thy father and thy mother,

43:02.960 --> 43:06.880
which is the first commandment with promise that it may be well with thee,

43:06.880 --> 43:12.640
and thou mayest live long on the earth. You kids want to live a nice long life, honor your parents.

43:13.440 --> 43:19.680
You want to be blessed in life, love and honor your parents, obey them. That's a promise from God.

43:20.320 --> 43:24.080
And I love that Ephesians 6 directly addresses the children.

43:25.000 --> 43:28.040
Paul writes right to the kids and says, children.

43:28.040 --> 43:29.800
And he says, now that I've got your attention,

43:29.800 --> 43:31.400
here's what I want you to do.

43:31.400 --> 43:33.720
Obey your parents.

43:33.720 --> 43:36.360
Kids don't have a whole lot of responsibility in life,

43:36.360 --> 43:40.160
but that's really just the one they need to focus on anyway.

43:40.160 --> 43:43.160
You learn to obey your parents, they'll give you plenty to do.

43:43.160 --> 43:44.960
But you need to be obeying your parents.

43:44.960 --> 43:46.500
It's a command of God.

43:47.100 --> 43:53.100
Bible says in Proverbs 23, hearken unto thy father that beget thee and despise not thy mother when she is old.

43:55.100 --> 43:58.100
We are to honor our parents, we are supposed to honor our elders.

43:59.100 --> 44:06.100
And today, you know, a lot of people just want to blow off their parents, disrespect their parents, dishonor their parents.

44:06.100 --> 44:12.100
They want to be rude to the, you know, older people. They think that they know it all, they got it all figured out.

44:13.100 --> 44:15.000
And they don't realize that...

44:15.400 --> 44:21.560
Age bestows wisdom and the elder should be treated with dignity.

44:21.560 --> 44:26.600
We should be respecting our elders and they should be treated with dignity.

44:26.600 --> 44:28.680
The Bible says in Proverbs 16 verse 31,

44:28.680 --> 44:33.320
the hoary head is a crown of glory if it be found in the way of righteousness.

44:35.800 --> 44:37.880
The Bible says in Deuteronomy 32,

44:37.880 --> 44:41.000
remember the days of old and consider the years of many generations.

44:41.000 --> 44:44.760
Ask thy father and he will show thee thy elders and they will tell you.

44:44.760 --> 44:46.600
You know why you should obey your parents, kids?

44:46.600 --> 44:47.800
Because they know more than you.

44:49.000 --> 44:49.880
They know more than you.

44:50.440 --> 44:53.480
Just by virtue of having outlived you, right?

44:53.480 --> 44:54.600
Lived longer than you.

44:57.480 --> 44:58.600
They know more.

44:58.600 --> 44:59.960
They've experienced more.

44:59.960 --> 45:01.160
They know what life is about.

45:01.700 --> 45:05.300
And look, with little kids, this isn't so much a problem.

45:05.300 --> 45:08.260
With little kids, they're not really thinking,

45:08.260 --> 45:10.980
I've got the old man figured out.

45:10.980 --> 45:14.580
They're not really thinking, I would do things differently.

45:14.580 --> 45:17.620
They're just more concerned with getting their tablet

45:17.620 --> 45:22.420
time or their cookie or getting to go outside or whatever.

45:22.420 --> 45:24.740
But we all know a certain demographic

45:24.740 --> 45:27.260
where that mentality is present, where they're like, well,

45:27.260 --> 45:28.740
I think I'm smarter than my parents.

45:29.500 --> 45:32.460
They're called teenagers.

45:32.460 --> 45:34.580
You know, I remember a fridge magnet I saw years ago,

45:34.580 --> 45:38.580
hire a teenager while they still know everything.

45:38.580 --> 45:41.100
Because after that ends, all of a sudden you get in your 20s

45:41.100 --> 45:43.900
and it kind of dawns on you, I don't know everything.

45:43.900 --> 45:46.500
Well, let me just dispel you of that notion early on.

45:46.500 --> 45:47.700
You don't know everything.

45:47.700 --> 45:49.540
In fact, none of us does.

45:49.540 --> 45:50.980
But one thing I can guarantee you

45:50.980 --> 45:53.700
is those that have been around longer have lived life

45:53.700 --> 45:56.260
and have more experience, no more than you.

45:57.200 --> 46:02.200
You know, sometimes I think teenagers think that their parents have always only been their parents.

46:03.200 --> 46:07.200
They don't realize, you know, we were kids once, we were teenagers once, we were young people once,

46:07.200 --> 46:12.200
we were single once, we were newlywed once, we had a first child, but, you know, we've been through it.

46:13.200 --> 46:14.200
We know what we're talking about.

46:15.200 --> 46:17.200
Listen to your parents, obey your elders.

46:18.200 --> 46:23.200
The little maid managed to, and she wasn't in the most ideal circumstances.

46:25.000 --> 46:36.400
She wasn't having some kind of an excuse so she could dismiss herself from keeping God's command to obey their parents.

46:36.400 --> 46:42.900
And look, the Bible warns that there are consequences for not obeying your parents.

46:42.900 --> 46:46.000
It's not like God is saying, well, this is a good option.

46:46.000 --> 46:48.500
This is what I would prefer.

46:48.500 --> 46:50.500
You know, this is God's best for you.

46:51.200 --> 46:58.560
No, there are consequences when children do not obey and honor their parents.

46:58.560 --> 47:05.440
Not just for the children that are so bold to disobey their parents, but even a nation.

47:06.700 --> 47:14.700
When you start to have a nation that's filled with children and young people that disobey, disrespect their parents,

47:14.700 --> 47:23.700
do not treat their elders with the dignity and respect that they deserve, there's consequences for that.

47:23.700 --> 47:25.700
In fact, it's a sign of judgment.

47:25.700 --> 47:27.700
The Bible says in Isaiah chapter 3 verse 5,

47:27.700 --> 47:29.940
The people should be oppressed, every one by another.

47:30.500 --> 47:36.500
and everyone by his neighbor and the child shall behave himself proudly against the ancient and the

47:36.500 --> 47:42.340
base against the honorable." I love how those are, you know, that last part there's some synonyms

47:42.340 --> 47:47.780
there, right? He's saying the child shall behave himself proudly against the ancient and the base

47:47.780 --> 47:52.900
against the honorable. Now, no disrespect to you kids, but you know sometimes you can be a little

47:52.900 --> 47:55.900
You can be a little crude, you can be a little crass.

47:57.300 --> 48:00.700
You know, a child left unto himself bringeth his mother to shame.

48:00.700 --> 48:04.700
Because kids, if they're just kind of left, they'll get up to some stuff.

48:04.700 --> 48:08.100
And you know, as parents, if we let it go, we might even be a little embarrassed, right?

48:08.100 --> 48:09.900
They give you a little base.

48:12.600 --> 48:24.040
And that's what the Bible's warning us about is that if we just let children do whatever they want or kids aren't learning to behave themselves and to honor their parents, you know, that is a judgment upon a nation.

48:28.500 --> 48:34.100
Of course, Lamentations is a book that's just all about the judgment of God, but moaning it.

48:34.100 --> 48:38.100
The Bible says in Lamentations 5 verse 12, princes are hanged by their hand.

48:38.740 --> 48:43.860
The faces of the elders were not honored. Like, God notices this stuff.

48:44.400 --> 48:47.440
It seems to me like this is something that God pays attention to.

48:47.440 --> 48:49.680
How does a nation treat their elders?

48:49.680 --> 48:52.120
How does the youth treat those that are older than them?

48:52.120 --> 48:54.440
How do children treat their parents?

48:54.440 --> 48:55.240
Do they honor them?

48:55.240 --> 48:56.960
Do they obey them or not?

48:56.960 --> 48:59.520
It says a lot about a nation.

48:59.520 --> 49:01.300
It says a lot about an individual.

49:03.700 --> 49:13.700
Of course, in Romans chapter 1, it says, talking about reprobates, it says, you know, describing these people,

49:13.700 --> 49:17.700
that God has given up to a reprobate mind that they are backbiteers, haters of God,

49:17.700 --> 49:24.700
despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, and disobedient to parents.

49:24.700 --> 49:30.700
Think about that. I mean, the worst scum of the earth. I mean, they're all of these things.

49:31.200 --> 49:35.440
And I'm not saying that any kid who back talks mom or dad or sasses them is a reprobate.

49:37.280 --> 49:41.680
But I am saying that if that's you tonight, if you're a child who disobeys or disrespects

49:41.680 --> 49:47.520
your parents, disobeys or disrespects your elders, you have something in common with a reprobate.

49:50.600 --> 49:55.000
The Bible warns us in 2 Timothy chapter number 3 about the last days,

49:55.000 --> 49:59.700
that knowing this else in the last days, perilous times shall come for men shall be lovers of their own selves,

49:59.700 --> 50:06.500
covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy.

50:06.500 --> 50:08.600
So there it is again.

50:08.600 --> 50:14.300
It seems to me like God puts an emphasis on children obeying their parents.

50:14.600 --> 50:18.000
And when it's not happening, God notices.

50:18.000 --> 50:25.200
And God's saying this is a bad thing when children are disobeying and dishonoring their parents.

50:25.200 --> 50:29.000
Well, you don't know my mom and dad. You don't know what they were like.

50:29.000 --> 50:32.300
You don't know what they do or what they don't do, how they treated me.

50:32.300 --> 50:34.400
Shut up.

50:34.400 --> 50:39.500
Show me that in the Word of God. It's not there.

50:40.600 --> 50:44.760
You know, and a lot of times when I preach sermons like this, I think about maybe using some of my own

50:46.280 --> 50:50.920
personal examples from my life because you know I didn't grow up in a Baptist church,

50:50.920 --> 50:54.280
I didn't grow up in our church, I didn't grow up in a Christian home.

50:55.160 --> 50:58.920
And sometimes I think you know maybe if I related some of the things that happened to me or the

50:58.920 --> 51:03.400
things that I went through as a child that maybe that would help illustrate, but you know I've

51:03.400 --> 51:05.000
I've chosen not to do that.

51:05.300 --> 51:09.300
simply because even in their death, I still want to honor my parents.

51:09.300 --> 51:12.800
And because I already understand, you know, they weren't perfect people.

51:12.800 --> 51:15.300
I'm not perfect. None of your parents are perfect.

51:15.300 --> 51:17.800
You know, why spill the beans on them?

51:17.800 --> 51:20.300
You know, why criticize them?

51:20.300 --> 51:22.800
You know, why point out their mistakes?

51:22.800 --> 51:26.300
Where is that in the Bible? It's not there.

51:26.300 --> 51:28.800
I'll tell you what is there.

51:28.800 --> 51:30.300
Honor your mother and father.

51:30.400 --> 51:34.120
honor your father and mother, obey your parents, that's what's there.

51:34.120 --> 51:37.840
Obey the, you know, rise up before the hoary head

51:37.840 --> 51:43.200
and honor the face of the ancient, that's what's there.

51:43.200 --> 51:45.480
And I love this about the little maid.

51:45.480 --> 51:51.840
This great story that we read about this miraculous deliverance of Naaman

51:51.840 --> 51:57.200
from his leprosy is all prompted by this little girl, a maid,

51:57.800 --> 52:02.600
held captive in a foreign land, just doing what's right.

52:02.600 --> 52:12.100
Just loving God, obeying God, being respectful, and just speaking up for the Lord.

52:12.100 --> 52:19.700
In 2 Kings chapter 5 verse 3, the next thing we see about her is that she speaks up, unprompted.

52:19.700 --> 52:25.300
No one asks her opinion on this. And obviously, she's hearing about it, and she said unto her mistress,

52:26.000 --> 52:28.000
And we're assuming, you know, Naaman's wife here.

52:29.120 --> 52:31.440
You know, in the privacy, when it's appropriate, she says,

52:32.320 --> 52:36.240
would God my Lord were with the prophet in Samaria?

52:37.920 --> 52:40.640
Now, it seems to me like she has some kind of affinity.

52:40.640 --> 52:43.760
She has some kind of respect for Naaman.

52:44.640 --> 52:45.840
She has a care for him.

52:46.480 --> 52:48.480
You know, and I, you know, I love that there,

52:48.480 --> 52:51.280
that it ends, that statement ends with an exclamation point.

52:52.700 --> 52:56.860
You know, she's being bold. She speaks up with unprompted.

52:56.860 --> 53:01.260
And she speaks well of God and of the man of God.

53:01.260 --> 53:02.300
That's what she does.

53:04.600 --> 53:10.400
She says, were God my Lord, excuse, would God my Lord were with the prophet that is in Samaria?

53:10.400 --> 53:15.600
You know, if you had my God, if you had, you know, the prophet that I know of the Lord God of Israel,

53:15.600 --> 53:18.000
things could go better for Naaman.

53:18.000 --> 53:20.600
She's speaking well of them.

53:20.600 --> 53:25.200
You know, children should speak well of their elders. They should speak well of their parents.

53:25.200 --> 53:28.800
And I'll say this, they should speak well of their pastors.

53:30.200 --> 53:35.800
You know, one thing I've noticed in the time that I've been a pastor,

53:35.800 --> 53:39.160
I've had people come and go and it hasn't always been, you know,

53:39.160 --> 53:44.120
it's, you know, some of the partings have been, you know, good.

53:44.120 --> 53:48.520
But sometimes there's been people that have left the church and you kind of see it coming.

53:48.520 --> 53:54.360
And one of the things I've noticed is the children's attitude towards me changes.

53:54.360 --> 53:56.440
They start to glare during the service.

53:57.700 --> 54:02.260
I've seen this. They're a little tight-lipped when it's time to say hello.

54:04.500 --> 54:08.900
They're not as free with themselves. They're not as polite. They're not as... Some changes.

54:11.060 --> 54:14.020
And sometimes I wonder, I think, where did that come from?

54:15.700 --> 54:18.340
And the only answer I have is like they must have heard it at home.

54:19.940 --> 54:24.100
You know, you parents better be careful about how you talk about your pastor in front of your kids.

54:25.700 --> 54:26.700
You should be careful.

54:26.700 --> 54:31.020
You know, when the pastor rips face or steps on your toes on Sunday morning, don't go out

54:31.020 --> 54:34.020
in the car and start grumbling and moaning and complaining on the ride home when your

54:34.020 --> 54:37.220
kids, you know, you shouldn't be doing that at all.

54:37.220 --> 54:39.420
But don't do that in front of your kids.

54:42.900 --> 54:50.800
Well, mom and dad can disrespect the pastor. If he really is everything that they're saying he is, or whatever, why should I respect him?

54:53.700 --> 54:59.580
I love that she speaks well of God and of the man of God.

54:59.580 --> 55:05.300
You know, God has given us pastors for a very specific reason.

55:05.300 --> 55:10.380
To you know, for the perfecting of the saints as it says in Ephesians, the work of the ministry

55:10.380 --> 55:13.260
and the edifying of the body of Christ.

55:13.260 --> 55:15.780
That's what a pastor is there for.

55:15.780 --> 55:17.060
To benefit other people.

55:17.700 --> 55:22.900
to perfect the saints for the work of the ministry to edify the body of Christ. That's his work.

55:25.300 --> 55:27.500
But that's not all a good pastor does.

55:30.200 --> 55:34.160
You know, a good pastor is someone that loves his people,

55:34.160 --> 55:37.480
cares about the members of his flock.

55:37.480 --> 55:41.640
And I know enough about your pastor that I could say that's true here.

55:41.640 --> 55:45.160
And I'm sure you all know that. I'm sure that's not news to people here.

55:45.160 --> 55:49.440
You know, I believe that Pastor Shelley loves the people in this church.

55:49.440 --> 55:51.840
Why else would he be doing this?

55:52.900 --> 56:00.100
You know, sometimes you see these pastors are going through things and you hear about everything they're doing to make the ministry work.

56:00.100 --> 56:05.820
When they, you know, it could be so easy to just walk away and do something else and not have all things.

56:05.820 --> 56:06.940
Oh, well, why did you do that?

56:06.940 --> 56:14.820
I'll tell you why they do that, because God will give you pastors, according to Jeremiah, according to mine heart.

56:14.820 --> 56:18.820
And God loves people and the pastors that are doing the job.

56:19.200 --> 56:22.200
write our pastors that love the people.

56:23.700 --> 56:28.200
Sometimes people ask me, you know, about Tucson, the church there, and they'll say,

56:28.200 --> 56:32.200
well, have you ever thought about maybe going somewhere else? And I say, no, I'd never leave.

56:33.200 --> 56:35.200
Why? Because I love those people.

56:36.200 --> 56:41.200
You know, those people have been loyal to me, loyal to my pastor friends. I'm going to do the same for them.

56:43.700 --> 56:46.100
And I love that the little maid here...

56:47.300 --> 56:50.980
She speaks well of the man of God and of the Lord.

56:53.600 --> 56:55.600
I'm going to move on from that point here.

56:57.400 --> 57:02.800
But let me just, you know, before I do that, I do want to just kind of park it here because this is an important,

57:04.200 --> 57:13.000
an important point that we should be careful how we treat our parents, treat our elders and treat our pastors.

57:14.800 --> 57:20.600
Because God has some strong warnings, just as he does about, hey, if you disobey your parents,

57:21.100 --> 57:26.780
It's a curse on a nation. If you want it to be well with you and you want your days to be live long,

57:26.780 --> 57:30.220
you want to live long on the earth, you got to obey your parents. There's some strong warnings

57:30.220 --> 57:36.060
about disrespecting or dishonoring even your pastor. The Bible says in Luke 10,

57:36.060 --> 57:39.980
He that heareth, you heareth me, and he that despiseth you, despiseth me.

57:41.580 --> 57:47.260
And he that despiseth me, despiseth him that sent me. And look, I know that's not just specific to pastors, but

57:48.200 --> 57:53.000
If a pastor is getting up and preaching God's word and you despise it, who are you really despising?

57:53.800 --> 57:58.760
You're despising God. Of course, we know Psalm 105,

57:58.760 --> 58:01.560
touch not mine anointed and do my prophets no harm.

58:03.960 --> 58:06.840
And there's so many passages we could turn to where people

58:08.120 --> 58:12.520
are made examples of when they mistreat the man of God.

58:13.300 --> 58:16.900
You say, well, this is kind of self-serving. You're a pastor. Maybe that's why you're preaching.

58:16.900 --> 58:18.100
No, this is just what the Bible says.

58:20.660 --> 58:23.780
You know, and we're, we're, I'm preaching this morning about the little,

58:23.780 --> 58:28.100
this evening about the little maid and her character and how it's something to be emulated.

58:28.100 --> 58:31.700
And one of the things she does is she speaks well of the man of God specifically.

58:31.700 --> 58:32.200
Yeah.

58:33.380 --> 58:37.220
Would to God, my Lord, we're with the prophet that is in Samaria.

58:38.420 --> 58:40.660
I know a guy, the prophet, the preacher.

58:41.300 --> 58:43.300
Elisha, he could straighten things out.

58:46.400 --> 58:49.600
And she's in a really difficult circumstance.

58:49.600 --> 58:51.100
And she doesn't get bitter and angry.

58:51.100 --> 58:55.900
She continues to honor and respect her elders and honor the man of God.

58:55.900 --> 59:00.200
And look, there's so many examples of people who failed at this.

59:00.200 --> 59:05.600
Miriam and Aaron against Moses, you know, she gets struck with leprosy.

59:05.600 --> 59:08.300
You know, speaking of leprosy, Miriam.

59:08.900 --> 59:15.700
Korah's rebellion, they rise up against Moses and Aaron, and the ground literally opens up beneath their feet.

59:15.700 --> 59:19.900
I mean, that's such a, what an amazing thing when you think about it.

59:19.900 --> 59:24.300
I mean, the ground just opening up and they go down alive into the pit.

59:24.300 --> 59:28.900
And what did they do? They spanked against Moses and Aaron, the man of God. That's all they did.

59:29.900 --> 59:33.140
And, you know, they didn't even stay all that much, but, you know, they raised the rebellion,

59:33.140 --> 59:37.960
and God just says, well, here, let me show you what I think about people who rise up

59:37.960 --> 59:41.980
against the man of God, who rise up against God's anointed.

59:41.980 --> 59:44.020
They go alive down to the pit.

59:44.020 --> 59:46.060
The earth will just swallow them up.

59:46.060 --> 59:50.260
Now, obviously, you know, I don't expect God to do that exact miracle today.

59:50.260 --> 59:53.660
I think He's just, you know, He's did it once to just show us this is what I think of people

59:53.660 --> 59:54.420
that are like that.

59:55.500 --> 59:58.500
God might do something else.

59:58.500 --> 01:00:09.500
You know, the law has all kinds of penalties for when these law, when these commandments are not followed.

01:00:09.500 --> 01:00:14.200
You think about going back to obeying your parents.

01:00:15.500 --> 01:00:25.700
There's some really strong warnings in the Word of God about what should happen when people don't obey their mother and father.

01:00:27.500 --> 01:00:28.900
And it's pretty heavy.

01:00:30.900 --> 01:00:33.400
The Bible says in Exodus chapter 21 verse 15,

01:00:33.400 --> 01:00:36.900
He that smiteth his father or his mother shall surely be put to death.

01:00:37.400 --> 01:00:40.900
And he that curseth his father or his mother shall surely be put to death.

01:00:41.800 --> 01:00:43.300
These are strong warnings.

01:00:44.700 --> 01:00:49.800
Everyone that Kurt, again Leviticus, it's repeated, curse mom and dad, be put to death.

01:00:49.800 --> 01:00:57.840
Curse, Deuteronomy 21, the stubborn rebellious son who will not obey,

01:00:57.840 --> 01:01:01.340
you know, was to be taken before the elders and stoned.

01:01:01.340 --> 01:01:05.540
You know what, I'm not trying to scare anyone.

01:01:05.540 --> 01:01:10.140
I'm just trying to show you this evening, this is how God feels about obeying your parents.

01:01:12.100 --> 01:01:14.440
You say, well, that's Old Testament.

01:01:14.440 --> 01:01:18.220
Yeah, but the problem with that is that Jesus quoted that.

01:01:18.220 --> 01:01:26.100
He said, for God commanded saying, he that cursed the father or mother, let him die the death.

01:01:26.100 --> 01:01:30.760
There's so many Proverbs on dishonoring your parents, disrespecting them.

01:01:30.760 --> 01:01:34.560
The eye that mocketh at his father and despised the bay as mother, the ravens of the valley

01:01:34.560 --> 01:01:36.880
should pick it out and the young eagles shall eat it.

01:01:38.600 --> 01:01:39.600
What's it talking about?

01:01:39.600 --> 01:01:41.700
It's saying, hey, you kids better listen to your parents

01:01:41.700 --> 01:01:43.300
because they know better than you.

01:01:43.300 --> 01:01:46.040
And when they warn you not to hang out with that crowd,

01:01:46.040 --> 01:01:49.800
not to go with those kids, not to jump in that car

01:01:49.800 --> 01:01:54.580
and go do whatever, you should probably listen to them.

01:01:54.580 --> 01:01:56.680
Because you can start running with a crowd.

01:01:56.680 --> 01:02:00.640
You might find yourself dying an untimely death.

01:02:00.640 --> 01:02:02.980
Isn't that kind of what it's painting there?

01:02:02.980 --> 01:02:03.980
You mock your father.

01:02:03.980 --> 01:02:05.580
You despise to obey your mother.

01:02:06.300 --> 01:02:12.540
And it's talking about birds in the valley eating you, your corpse, right?

01:02:15.400 --> 01:02:20.520
Whosoever curseth his father or mother, his lamp shall be put out in obscure darkness.

01:02:20.520 --> 01:02:24.240
He that wastes at his father and chases away at his mother is a son that causeth shame

01:02:24.240 --> 01:02:26.440
and bringeth reproach.

01:02:26.440 --> 01:02:32.440
A fool despiseth his father's instruction, but he that regardeth reproof is prudent.

01:02:32.440 --> 01:02:37.560
A wise son maketh a glad father, but a foolish man despiseth his mother.

01:02:37.900 --> 01:02:44.620
whoso robbeth his father or mother, and saith it is no transgression, the same as the company of a companion of a destroyer."

01:02:44.620 --> 01:02:53.540
And the Bible warns us in Proverbs chapter 30 that there is a generation that curseth their father and doth not bless their mother.

01:02:53.540 --> 01:03:01.740
And look, I don't think, you know, that last one there about the generation cursing their father and not blessing their mother.

01:03:02.000 --> 01:03:04.560
I don't think it's talking about, hey, there's just one generation.

01:03:04.560 --> 01:03:08.000
I believe what it's describing is something that's cyclical.

01:03:08.000 --> 01:03:12.000
And that's what you see in the Bible, is you see the nation of Israel getting away from God,

01:03:12.000 --> 01:03:15.520
getting backslidden, getting rebellious, and it gets worse and worse and worse,

01:03:15.520 --> 01:03:19.840
and then eventually they come back around. And I just think that's kind of human nature.

01:03:19.840 --> 01:03:24.160
We just kind of go through these cycles where we just kind of go into degeneracy.

01:03:24.700 --> 01:03:28.780
where we just kind of go into children becoming worse, nations becoming worse,

01:03:28.780 --> 01:03:34.060
and it gets to the point where there's a generation that curses their father and does not bless their mother.

01:03:35.260 --> 01:03:37.340
That's how you know things are getting bad in a nation.

01:03:38.700 --> 01:03:43.500
When children don't even have enough respect to just not curse their father and to not

01:03:43.500 --> 01:03:46.940
and to continue to bless their mother, they take them for granted.

01:03:51.500 --> 01:03:53.500
Well, not the little maid.

01:03:53.500 --> 01:03:58.500
You know, she was someone that was respectful and loved God

01:04:00.500 --> 01:04:08.500
and even cared about the very person who likely was the one that took her captive.

01:04:11.500 --> 01:04:14.500
And really what I want to get across to the kids tonight is this.

01:04:16.700 --> 01:04:22.460
Even as a child, you know, the Bible says that a child is known by his doings, whether his works be pure.

01:04:22.460 --> 01:04:26.860
You know, you kids have a reputation, whether you realize that or not.

01:04:26.860 --> 01:04:32.700
And let me tell you something, just from the few minutes, you know, the few short while that I've been here,

01:04:32.700 --> 01:04:37.180
you know, I love it here. I think these kids are great.

01:04:37.180 --> 01:04:43.100
It's great to see kids coming in and singing and running around and playing and quoting Bible verses.

01:04:44.400 --> 01:04:46.400
That's a good reputation to have.

01:04:46.400 --> 01:04:48.400
Amen.

01:04:48.400 --> 01:04:50.400
And you have one. We all will.

01:04:50.400 --> 01:04:52.400
And children are no exception.

01:04:52.400 --> 01:04:54.400
You'll notice this in the story.

01:04:54.400 --> 01:04:56.400
Once she makes this statement there

01:04:56.400 --> 01:04:58.400
in 2 Kings 5, verse 3,

01:04:58.400 --> 01:05:00.400
she says,

01:05:00.400 --> 01:05:02.400
As she said unto the mistress, Would the God my Lord

01:05:02.400 --> 01:05:04.400
were with the prophet that is in Samaria, for he would

01:05:04.400 --> 01:05:06.400
recover him of his leprosy.

01:05:06.400 --> 01:05:08.400
Someone hears that and then

01:05:08.400 --> 01:05:10.100
repeats it to the king.

01:05:10.900 --> 01:05:12.580
Look at 2 Kings 5 verse 4,

01:05:12.580 --> 01:05:14.740
and one went in and told his Lord, saying,

01:05:14.740 --> 01:05:18.100
Thus and thus said the maid that is of the land of Israel.

01:05:20.820 --> 01:05:22.900
Now, we don't know who this is exactly.

01:05:22.900 --> 01:05:24.340
I'm assuming it's just another servant,

01:05:25.300 --> 01:05:27.860
someone who, you know, serves in Naaman and serves the king,

01:05:28.420 --> 01:05:30.340
kind of intermediary, whatever.

01:05:30.340 --> 01:05:34.580
But he just hears the little maid, what she says and says, ah,

01:05:34.580 --> 01:05:35.780
and he goes and tells the king.

01:05:37.140 --> 01:05:38.420
And no one questions her.

01:05:39.600 --> 01:05:42.400
No one's questioning whether she's telling the truth.

01:05:42.400 --> 01:05:45.600
No one's trying to, you know, figure out what she means by that.

01:05:45.600 --> 01:05:49.200
They just assume that she's speaking the truth.

01:05:49.200 --> 01:05:53.100
And what this tells me is that the little maid had a good reputation.

01:05:53.100 --> 01:05:58.500
So much so that when someone else brings him her message secondhand,

01:05:58.500 --> 01:06:02.000
he says, well, if it's from the little maid, it must be true.

01:06:02.000 --> 01:06:03.000
I mean, think about that.

01:06:04.300 --> 01:06:08.460
They just hear, well the little maid that's from the line of Israel, she said this.

01:06:08.460 --> 01:06:11.500
And what's the king, what did the king do? He says in verse 5, and the king said,

01:06:11.500 --> 01:06:16.780
go, go to, go, and I will send a letter to the king of Israel, and he departed and took him 10,000 silver,

01:06:16.780 --> 01:06:19.820
and 6,000 pieces of silver, and 10 changes of raiment.

01:06:19.820 --> 01:06:26.060
He just hears second hand what the little maid said, and says, well then go.

01:06:26.060 --> 01:06:28.600
Well if we know enough about the little maid,

01:06:29.100 --> 01:06:33.100
We know that she loves God, that she's respectful.

01:06:34.600 --> 01:06:36.600
She must be telling the truth.

01:06:37.600 --> 01:06:41.600
What this shows me is that children have a reputation.

01:06:42.600 --> 01:06:45.100
You kids are known by your doings.

01:06:45.600 --> 01:06:48.600
You're known by the way you listen to your parents.

01:06:48.600 --> 01:06:51.100
You're known by the way you treat your elders.

01:06:51.100 --> 01:06:52.600
Or don't treat them.

01:06:53.100 --> 01:06:56.500
You know, people are making judgements.

01:06:57.200 --> 01:07:01.360
about even children's behavior all the time.

01:07:01.360 --> 01:07:08.560
And I'm just saying tonight, you know, you kids need to keep obeying God no matter what.

01:07:08.560 --> 01:07:15.440
Don't make excuses. Don't try to cop out. Don't try to find a way to wiggle out of the word of God

01:07:15.440 --> 01:07:19.920
and give yourself an excuse for not obeying God.

01:07:19.920 --> 01:07:23.920
And if you do, you know what you're going to have? A bad reputation.

01:07:25.700 --> 01:07:30.400
Children that curse their father and don't bless their mother have a bad reputation.

01:07:30.400 --> 01:07:31.400
Yes.

01:07:31.400 --> 01:07:34.900
They're bad people.

01:07:34.900 --> 01:07:39.400
I hold people like that in very low esteem.

01:07:39.400 --> 01:07:44.400
Don't turn out like that, kids. Obey your parents.

01:07:47.400 --> 01:07:50.400
And kids can have a reputation, you know, even besides that.

01:07:51.900 --> 01:07:52.900
Children have your reputation.

01:07:52.900 --> 01:07:55.400
Let's talk about some of the poor character traits, right?

01:07:55.400 --> 01:07:57.900
Because what we don't see the little maid doing is complaining.

01:07:58.400 --> 01:08:01.400
Now let me ask you something. Do you think the little maid had something to complain about?

01:08:02.900 --> 01:08:06.900
I mean, do you think that there's anyone that we could kind of give a pass to maybe, you know,

01:08:06.900 --> 01:08:13.400
complaining a little would be the little girl, you know, who was taken captive by a foreign nation

01:08:13.400 --> 01:08:14.900
and taken to another land?

01:08:15.100 --> 01:08:18.100
separated from her family.

01:08:18.100 --> 01:08:20.600
I mean, if we heard the little maid complain, we might say,

01:08:20.600 --> 01:08:23.300
well, you know, don't hold it against her.

01:08:23.300 --> 01:08:26.300
You know, she was trafficked.

01:08:26.300 --> 01:08:29.200
That's what happened.

01:08:29.200 --> 01:08:30.500
But she doesn't do that.

01:08:31.000 --> 01:08:33.000
You know, she keeps loving God.

01:08:33.000 --> 01:08:35.800
She cares even about Naaman, her master enough to say,

01:08:35.800 --> 01:08:37.700
hey, there is a solution here.

01:08:37.700 --> 01:08:43.400
She has a good enough reputation that when someone just overhears her saying what she said,

01:08:43.400 --> 01:08:45.100
they immediately run to the king and he says,

01:08:45.100 --> 01:08:47.200
well, if the little maid said it, then let's do something about it.

01:08:47.200 --> 01:08:48.000
It must be right.

01:08:50.200 --> 01:08:57.200
Children can have a bad reputation if they have poor character traits.

01:08:57.200 --> 01:09:07.200
Here's a big one, being ungrateful or having, you know, being someone who, you know, expresses ingratitude for the good things that they've given, been given.

01:09:07.200 --> 01:09:12.200
And again, this is an attribute of a reprobate.

01:09:12.200 --> 01:09:16.200
When they knew God, they glorified Him not as God, neither were thankful.

01:09:18.200 --> 01:09:24.200
Men shall be lovers of their own selves, unthankful, the Bible warns us.

01:09:24.200 --> 01:09:30.200
Being unthankful is a very serious character flaw.

01:09:30.200 --> 01:09:34.200
You know, and you children should be thankful.

01:09:34.200 --> 01:09:38.200
You know, if you're growing up in this church, you should thank God for that.

01:09:38.200 --> 01:09:43.200
If you can say, pastor, Jonathan Shelley is my pastor, you should be thankful for that.

01:09:44.000 --> 01:09:47.500
You should thank your parents that they take you to this church.

01:09:47.500 --> 01:09:49.760
Not, you know, on Sunday morning, hey, it's time to go to church.

01:09:49.760 --> 01:09:56.340
Oh, God, do we have to?

01:09:56.340 --> 01:09:59.500
And even if you do feel that way, you should still be grateful.

01:09:59.500 --> 01:10:03.340
You should be thankful that your parents are taking you to a place like this,

01:10:03.340 --> 01:10:08.260
teaching you the word of God, showing you the good and right way.

01:10:08.260 --> 01:10:09.260
Not everyone has that.

01:10:10.500 --> 01:10:13.300
Not everyone got that growing up.

01:10:13.300 --> 01:10:16.580
Don't take it for granted.

01:10:16.580 --> 01:10:17.860
Be grateful for that.

01:10:17.860 --> 01:10:21.180
How about this one complaining and murmuring?

01:10:21.180 --> 01:10:24.480
Kids never do this, right?

01:10:24.480 --> 01:10:25.460
They never complain.

01:10:25.460 --> 01:10:27.860
They never murmur when they're told to do something.

01:10:30.400 --> 01:10:34.400
Well, if they're like any other kid, they probably have bouts with this.

01:10:34.400 --> 01:10:38.400
It's probably something we have to work on with children, don't we?

01:10:38.400 --> 01:10:43.400
You tell them to do the smallest thing sometimes, and it's just like,

01:10:43.400 --> 01:10:47.400
you told them to just push a boulder up a hill.

01:10:47.400 --> 01:10:48.400
You know?

01:10:48.400 --> 01:10:53.400
It's like, oh, you might as well just told them to chew a cactus or something.

01:10:53.400 --> 01:10:54.400
You know?

01:10:54.400 --> 01:10:55.400
Take out the trash.

01:10:55.400 --> 01:10:56.400
Ugh!

01:10:58.500 --> 01:11:03.500
Or how about this? This is one that, you know, they think they're not complaining.

01:11:03.500 --> 01:11:07.500
They're doing it, but it's the way that they're doing it. Right?

01:11:07.500 --> 01:11:11.500
I'll take out the trash.

01:11:14.500 --> 01:11:18.500
If I told you there was ice cream out of the curb, you'd probably go a lot faster.

01:11:18.500 --> 01:11:22.500
If I told you, hey, the ice cream truck's on the curb, it's boom!

01:11:22.500 --> 01:11:24.500
You're moving a lot quicker.

01:11:24.500 --> 01:11:29.500
But, oh, you tell them to take out the trash or do whatever outside, all of a sudden it's like

01:11:29.500 --> 01:11:34.500
they've got lead in their shoes all of a sudden.

01:11:34.500 --> 01:11:36.500
That's complaining in my book.

01:11:36.500 --> 01:11:40.500
You might not be saying it with your words, but you're showing an attitude.

01:11:42.000 --> 01:11:47.080
Well, that's not complaining, I was just sighing.

01:11:47.080 --> 01:11:48.080
That's complaining.

01:11:48.080 --> 01:11:52.500
You know, it's funny because, you know, especially when they get to be teenagers, kids, they

01:11:52.500 --> 01:11:54.960
– teenagers, they want to be adults.

01:11:54.960 --> 01:11:56.680
They want to be treated like an adult.

01:11:56.680 --> 01:12:00.720
But you know what, you know, any – well, I can't say this isn't true of some adults,

01:12:00.720 --> 01:12:04.920
but you know, most adults, if they're smart, don't go to work and when their boss tells

01:12:04.920 --> 01:12:07.500
them to do something and go, UGH!

01:12:11.100 --> 01:12:12.100
Hey, go fix that.

01:12:16.700 --> 01:12:21.300
I'd like to say in this day and age that's a good way to get fired, but you know that seems to be more and more difficult.

01:12:25.000 --> 01:12:28.000
But I guarantee you that boss doesn't think very highly of that employee.

01:12:28.000 --> 01:12:32.000
When he's just, oh, do I, oh, I guess if I have to.

01:12:32.000 --> 01:12:34.000
Well, we are paying you.

01:12:34.000 --> 01:12:36.000
It is your job.

01:12:36.000 --> 01:12:40.000
It's literally in your job description.

01:12:40.000 --> 01:12:42.000
Well, I want to be treated like an adult.

01:12:42.000 --> 01:12:44.000
Well, then act like one.

01:12:44.000 --> 01:12:48.000
And don't go, oh, every time they ask you to do something.

01:12:48.500 --> 01:12:57.500
Because that, you know, I don't know why some of these kids are in such a rush to grow up and be treated like adults because if you don't like working, guess what adulthood is?

01:12:57.500 --> 01:13:03.500
You just think, oh, it's just fun and adults just have all this freedom and liberty to do whatever they want.

01:13:03.500 --> 01:13:08.500
Yeah, they do. And guess what they end up doing with all that freedom and liberty? Working.

01:13:08.500 --> 01:13:13.400
Right. I know it sounds crazy. It sounds insane.

01:13:13.700 --> 01:13:15.060
But that's what adults choose to do.

01:13:15.060 --> 01:13:16.500
It's like, well, it's time to get a job

01:13:16.500 --> 01:13:19.820
and take on responsibility and take care of other people

01:13:19.820 --> 01:13:22.220
and raise other little people

01:13:22.220 --> 01:13:24.540
and go through all the pain that that involves

01:13:24.540 --> 01:13:26.340
and all the hardship that comes along with that

01:13:26.340 --> 01:13:28.500
and taking on everything that,

01:13:29.500 --> 01:13:31.540
all the responsibility and everything like that.

01:13:31.540 --> 01:13:33.900
That's what adults end up doing is that stuff

01:13:33.900 --> 01:13:35.600
that you're already complaining about.

01:13:38.200 --> 01:13:39.440
Oh, go do some yard work.

01:13:39.540 --> 01:13:41.240
Oh.

01:13:41.340 --> 01:13:44.240
That's welcome to being an adult.

01:13:44.340 --> 01:13:45.980
And if you want to be treated like a grown up

01:13:46.080 --> 01:13:48.440
and treated like an adult, I know these little,

01:13:48.540 --> 01:13:50.340
you know, some of the little kids here are like, no, thank

01:13:50.440 --> 01:13:51.620
you.

01:13:51.720 --> 01:13:53.180
But there are some older ones, right?

01:13:53.280 --> 01:13:54.380
As they get into those teen years,

01:13:54.480 --> 01:13:57.320
they just really want to be thought of as an adult.

01:13:57.420 --> 01:13:58.860
Well, stop complaining.

01:13:58.960 --> 01:14:00.620
Stop murmuring.

01:14:00.720 --> 01:14:01.520
Here's an idea.

01:14:01.620 --> 01:14:03.120
Do it before you're even asked.

01:14:05.500 --> 01:14:07.840
Your parents will probably fall over.

01:14:07.840 --> 01:14:13.840
Mom, dad, you know, they'll say,

01:14:13.840 --> 01:14:14.840
you take out the trash.

01:14:14.840 --> 01:14:15.840
Already did.

01:14:20.000 --> 01:14:21.600
Go clean up your room. We already did.

01:14:24.400 --> 01:14:25.400
Who are you?

01:14:27.400 --> 01:14:30.400
You know, who are you and what have you done with my child?

01:14:31.400 --> 01:14:35.400
You know, you're not my child, you're someone wearing a clever plastic suit.

01:14:35.400 --> 01:14:37.400
That looks like my child.

01:14:41.400 --> 01:14:43.400
I mean that's what it means to be an adult anyway.

01:14:44.400 --> 01:14:46.400
At least it's supposed to.

01:14:47.400 --> 01:14:50.400
Don't murmur, don't be complaining, don't be unthankful.

01:14:52.000 --> 01:14:54.000
God hates complaining.

01:14:54.000 --> 01:14:56.000
He hates it.

01:14:56.000 --> 01:14:58.000
It's irritating.

01:14:58.000 --> 01:15:02.000
The Bible commands us in Philippians chapter number 2,

01:15:02.000 --> 01:15:06.000
do all things without murmurings and disputings.

01:15:06.000 --> 01:15:08.000
Murmuring, complaining, and how about arguing?

01:15:08.000 --> 01:15:10.000
You know, arguing with your parents.

01:15:10.000 --> 01:15:12.000
That's a bad idea.

01:15:12.000 --> 01:15:14.000
You're going to lose.

01:15:17.900 --> 01:15:22.900
Neither murmur ye as some of them also murmur it, and were destroyed of the destroyer.

01:15:22.900 --> 01:15:27.900
When the people complained it displeased the Lord, and the Lord heard it, and his anger was kindled.

01:15:27.900 --> 01:15:32.900
God hates complaining, God hates murmuring, God hates arguing.

01:15:32.900 --> 01:15:35.900
Quit doing these things.

01:15:35.900 --> 01:15:38.900
Don't be a child that has that reputation.

01:15:38.900 --> 01:15:40.900
I mean, don't be an adult, but you know, we're kind of directing it to kids.

01:15:41.500 --> 01:15:45.500
Be somebody has a good reputation even as a child.

01:15:45.500 --> 01:15:46.700
And obviously, you know, it's not that hard.

01:15:46.700 --> 01:15:48.300
Just do the opposite.

01:15:48.300 --> 01:15:52.700
Instead of complaining, be thankful.

01:15:52.700 --> 01:15:56.400
Instead of, you know, being unthankful or having ingratitude,

01:15:56.400 --> 01:15:59.600
have some contentment.

01:15:59.600 --> 01:16:02.300
You know, this is big with kids.

01:16:02.300 --> 01:16:04.900
Oh, but so-and-so's parents let them.

01:16:06.000 --> 01:16:11.240
Oh, I went over to so-and-so's house, and they had this game system.

01:16:11.240 --> 01:16:14.660
Why can't we have that?

01:16:14.660 --> 01:16:17.760
Shut up and roll those dice again.

01:16:17.760 --> 01:16:18.800
What's wrong with the board game?

01:16:18.800 --> 01:16:23.480
Look, I'm not against that you want to have some system, whatever.

01:16:23.480 --> 01:16:25.240
But sometimes that's what kids do.

01:16:25.240 --> 01:16:28.480
They'll go to some other kid's house, and they'll see everything

01:16:28.480 --> 01:16:29.960
that their parents have.

01:16:29.960 --> 01:16:32.280
And they come back, and they kind of look around, and it's like,

01:16:32.280 --> 01:16:33.500
well, why don't we have that?

01:16:34.700 --> 01:16:37.300
Well, tell your friend's parents to buy us one.

01:16:37.300 --> 01:16:42.100
Daddy would love a PlayStation 5 too.

01:16:42.100 --> 01:16:45.900
Actually, that's one of the reasons we definitely will never have one,

01:16:45.900 --> 01:16:47.100
because I'd never get anything done.

01:16:47.100 --> 01:16:50.300
You think, you know, if we got a system like that,

01:16:50.300 --> 01:16:51.400
you really think you're going to get to play it?

01:16:56.800 --> 01:17:01.480
But that's a form of complaining, not being grateful for the things that you have.

01:17:04.520 --> 01:17:12.360
Comparing what your parents are giving you to what some other parents are having, or giving their kids.

01:17:14.900 --> 01:17:19.300
You know, we, for a while when we first moved down to Tucson, we kind of lived in a neighborhood

01:17:19.300 --> 01:17:22.180
that we really didn't want to just let the kids just go run around and play.

01:17:24.420 --> 01:17:27.300
You know, it wasn't that bad, but it was, you know, we were still kind of nervous about it.

01:17:27.300 --> 01:17:33.300
So finally we packed up, we moved south of town, in this little town where all the law

01:17:33.300 --> 01:17:37.700
enforcement lives there, you know, so it's just really safe and we just leave the garage door open,

01:17:37.700 --> 01:17:40.340
the kids just kind of come and go and they made all these neighborhood friends.

01:17:41.300 --> 01:17:42.300
just kind of overnight.

01:17:42.300 --> 01:17:44.100
They kind of were going over these kids' houses.

01:17:44.100 --> 01:17:47.140
And it was such a reality check for my kids.

01:17:47.140 --> 01:17:48.340
You know, they're going over there saying,

01:17:48.340 --> 01:17:49.860
oh, they have this and they have that.

01:17:49.860 --> 01:17:51.780
And then they come back one day and it's like,

01:17:51.780 --> 01:17:53.620
so-and-so's parents are getting divorced.

01:17:55.620 --> 01:17:58.980
The so-and-so's cussed their mom out.

01:18:00.500 --> 01:18:02.580
So-and-so talked back to them,

01:18:02.580 --> 01:18:04.020
and they come back and they're just aghast.

01:18:05.860 --> 01:18:06.900
And they're shocked by it.

01:18:08.200 --> 01:18:13.200
And it was really encouraging for me as a dad to see my children.

01:18:13.200 --> 01:18:19.840
Maybe dad can't give them the big vacation and all the bells and whistles that all the

01:18:19.840 --> 01:18:23.680
other kids in the neighborhood are getting, but at least mom and dad are together.

01:18:23.680 --> 01:18:27.800
At least we're not at each other's throats.

01:18:27.800 --> 01:18:32.600
And children should learn to just be grateful for the things that they have.

01:18:32.600 --> 01:18:34.600
Look, and if your parents...

01:18:34.800 --> 01:18:37.200
are taking you to church, teaching the word of God,

01:18:37.200 --> 01:18:39.540
putting a roof over your head, clothes on your back,

01:18:39.540 --> 01:18:43.320
and food in your belly, you have much to be grateful for.

01:18:43.320 --> 01:18:45.780
Who cares if they don't haul you off to Six Flags

01:18:45.780 --> 01:18:47.320
or Disney World every other year?

01:18:47.320 --> 01:18:49.460
Who cares if they don't give you the latest

01:18:49.460 --> 01:18:51.620
and greatest gaming system every other year?

01:18:51.620 --> 01:18:53.560
Who cares?

01:18:53.560 --> 01:18:54.460
All that stuff's vain.

01:18:54.460 --> 01:18:56.160
None of that stuff matters anyway.

01:18:56.900 --> 01:19:02.500
And I guarantee you there's probably lots of boys and girls out there that would give all of that up

01:19:02.500 --> 01:19:06.740
if it just meant mom and dad were together again. They would give all of that up if it just meant

01:19:06.740 --> 01:19:10.820
that there was some peace in their home and some security and some and some stability in their home.

01:19:11.620 --> 01:19:17.140
And look if you kids have that and you're looking around I'm you know if you're here I'm assuming

01:19:17.140 --> 01:19:20.180
you do. That's a pretty good sign that you do.

01:19:21.000 --> 01:19:22.760
You better be grateful for that.

01:19:22.760 --> 01:19:24.040
You better not murmur about that.

01:19:24.040 --> 01:19:25.480
You better not complain about that.

01:19:25.480 --> 01:19:27.640
You better be thanking God that you have it.

01:19:30.100 --> 01:19:33.300
Because I'll tell you what, there's this little girl that we don't even know her name.

01:19:33.300 --> 01:19:35.300
She's just a little maid.

01:19:35.300 --> 01:19:36.800
And she didn't have that.

01:19:36.800 --> 01:19:39.800
She had all that taken away, but do you see her complaining?

01:19:39.800 --> 01:19:41.800
Do you see her murmuring?

01:19:41.800 --> 01:19:43.300
Do you see her being unthankful?

01:19:43.300 --> 01:19:45.300
No, you see her honoring God,

01:19:45.300 --> 01:19:49.800
caring about her master, respecting her elders.

01:19:49.800 --> 01:19:51.300
She has a good reputation.

01:19:51.300 --> 01:19:54.800
Here we are, all these thousands of years later, preaching about her, talking about her, thinking about her.

01:19:54.800 --> 01:19:56.200
She's in the Word of God.

01:19:56.400 --> 01:19:58.960
for all eternity. She's got a great reputation.

01:20:05.500 --> 01:20:07.660
The Bible says in 1st Lesson 1, chapter 5,

01:20:07.660 --> 01:20:13.500
in everything give thanks for this is the will of God and Christ Jesus concerning you.

01:20:13.500 --> 01:20:18.460
And I love that that verse starts in everything, not for everything.

01:20:18.460 --> 01:20:20.460
In everything.

01:20:20.460 --> 01:20:23.420
Well, you know, you don't know my situation, you don't know what I'm going through.

01:20:23.420 --> 01:20:26.700
Well, in everything give thanks.

01:20:26.700 --> 01:20:29.020
Well, I'm going through this and this is going on.

01:20:29.020 --> 01:20:31.660
My mom and dad are this, my mom and dad are that.

01:20:31.900 --> 01:20:34.700
You know, it's tough at school, whatever, you know, whatever.

01:20:34.700 --> 01:20:36.900
Well, in everything, give thanks.

01:20:36.900 --> 01:20:41.020
I don't care what the situation is, you have something to be grateful for.

01:20:43.500 --> 01:20:49.500
You know, we go through problems in life, we have difficulties, but how about being, at least we're alive, at least we're around to experience them.

01:20:50.500 --> 01:20:52.500
You know, that, that, at least that's something, you know.

01:20:54.500 --> 01:21:01.500
And there's always something to give God, give thanks for, and this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.

01:21:03.500 --> 01:21:07.500
You know, you little kids, you children, God has a will for you.

01:21:08.300 --> 01:21:14.300
Obey God, respect your elders, be thankful in everything.

01:21:14.300 --> 01:21:17.300
Honor your mother and father. This is the will of God for you.

01:21:17.300 --> 01:21:19.300
It's the will of God for all of us.

01:21:19.300 --> 01:21:23.300
And if you do those things, you know, you're going to have a good reputation.

01:21:23.300 --> 01:21:28.300
And there is no excuse to disobey God.

01:21:28.300 --> 01:21:33.200
And look, even if we had parents that were, you know...

01:21:34.000 --> 01:21:39.800
not believers, ungodly, and even maybe, you know, made some major mistakes.

01:21:39.800 --> 01:21:44.000
No, we should still honor and respect our parents.

01:21:44.000 --> 01:21:46.600
I don't care what the situation is.

01:21:46.600 --> 01:21:49.280
We need to keep obeying God.

01:21:49.280 --> 01:21:51.960
You know, we don't know how the little maid was treated.

01:21:51.960 --> 01:21:52.840
It doesn't tell us.

01:21:54.600 --> 01:21:56.600
I mean, was it hostility?

01:21:56.600 --> 01:21:57.800
Was she treated poorly?

01:21:57.800 --> 01:21:58.600
Or she's getting carried?

01:21:58.600 --> 01:22:00.000
The Bible, we can't really say for sure.

01:22:00.000 --> 01:22:03.900
I mean, I kind of assume that she was well taken care of.

01:22:03.900 --> 01:22:07.700
But it doesn't really matter, does it?

01:22:07.700 --> 01:22:10.600
Because the little maid in that strange land,

01:22:10.600 --> 01:22:14.300
in the house of her captor,

01:22:14.300 --> 01:22:16.900
held herself accountable for God above all.

01:22:17.800 --> 01:22:22.800
And that's what we all need to do. You know, you kids need to learn to hold yourselves accountable to God.

01:22:23.800 --> 01:22:29.800
You know, we shall all give an account of ourselves before God. We're all going to stand before God.

01:22:30.800 --> 01:22:37.800
And you know, that is probably going to include even how we behaved as children, how we treated our parents. Did we honor them?

01:22:38.800 --> 01:22:43.800
There is an accountability there. And you know, the good news for kids is that

01:22:45.600 --> 01:22:48.960
It's pretty basic, you know, obey your parents, right?

01:22:48.960 --> 01:22:51.760
If you could just figure out that one thing as a child,

01:22:51.760 --> 01:22:53.360
it's going to go really well for you.

01:22:56.100 --> 01:22:57.460
Let's go ahead and close in a word of prayer.

01:22:57.460 --> 01:22:59.700
Dear Lord, again, thank you for the children that are here today.

01:22:59.700 --> 01:23:01.460
Lord, thank you for their parents that have brought them.

01:23:02.180 --> 01:23:08.020
And Lord, I pray you help us all to look to the little maid and seek to learn from her example,

01:23:08.020 --> 01:23:13.460
Lord, of somebody who even in a very trying and difficult situation decided that she would

01:23:14.020 --> 01:23:19.940
obey God, honor God, and that she would speak well of the man of God and of Lord God of Israel

01:23:20.740 --> 01:23:22.420
and was used in a great way.

01:23:22.900 --> 01:23:27.400
And Lord, I pray you help us to all just learn from her, Lord, to do likewise,

01:23:27.400 --> 01:23:32.500
help us to love, honor, and obey our parents.

01:23:32.500 --> 01:23:36.600
And Lord, help us to just love you with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength.

01:23:36.600 --> 01:23:40.500
Yes, he sings in Christ's name, amen.

01:23:40.500 --> 01:23:41.900
Amen.

01:23:41.900 --> 01:23:43.300
Thank you so much for that sermon.

01:23:44.100 --> 01:23:47.600
And we're going to go to our fourth song of the evening.

01:23:47.600 --> 01:23:51.300
It's going to be My God is So Great.

01:23:52.700 --> 01:23:54.300
My God is so great.

01:23:54.300 --> 01:23:58.800
So if you have that handout, My God is so great.

01:23:59.000 --> 01:24:01.800
Thank you so much, Pastor Russell, for coming and preaching for us.

01:24:02.600 --> 01:24:04.800
Don't complain about it. All right.

01:24:07.900 --> 01:24:10.100
All right. I want you kids to stand up with me on this one. All right.

01:24:10.500 --> 01:24:13.500
My God is so great.

01:24:17.700 --> 01:24:18.700
There in the first,

01:24:18.700 --> 01:24:23.700
My God is so big, so strong and so mighty,

01:24:23.700 --> 01:24:27.700
There's nothing my God cannot do.

01:24:27.700 --> 01:24:32.700
My God is so big, so strong and so mighty,

01:24:32.700 --> 01:24:36.700
There's nothing my God cannot do.

01:24:36.700 --> 01:24:41.700
He made the trees, He made the seas,

01:24:41.700 --> 01:24:45.400
He made the elephants too.

01:24:46.100 --> 01:24:54.480
My God is so big, so strong and so mighty. There's nothing my God cannot do.

01:24:55.060 --> 01:25:03.560
My God is so great, so strong and so mighty. There's nothing my God cannot do.

01:25:04.220 --> 01:25:12.480
My God is so great, so strong and so mighty. There's nothing my God cannot do.

01:25:13.300 --> 01:25:22.300
The mountains are his, the valleys are his, the stars are his handiwork too.

01:25:22.300 --> 01:25:30.300
My God is so great, so strong and so mighty, there's nothing my God cannot do.

01:25:30.300 --> 01:25:33.300
Alright, you guys are dismissed. God bless, see you on Sunday.
