Because of societal decay. 30:02.400 --> 30:03.600 That's what we see here. 30:03.600 --> 30:05.600 Societal decay. 30:05.600 --> 30:10.000 There is a problem with the morality of this culture 30:10.000 --> 30:13.400 that he's observing here in Psalm chapter 12. 30:13.400 --> 30:14.300 There's vanity. 30:14.300 --> 30:15.300 There's pride. 30:15.300 --> 30:16.600 There's oppression. 30:17.000 --> 30:19.300 But then there's also a promise of preservation, 30:19.300 --> 30:21.700 and I'll get into that in more detail, 30:21.700 --> 30:24.700 but we have a conclusion at the end of the chapter 30:24.700 --> 30:27.200 that I want to highlight in verse 8. 30:27.700 --> 30:29.600 This is, I think, a warning. 30:29.600 --> 30:32.300 This is something all of us should take very seriously. 30:32.300 --> 30:34.600 This is a great verse to memorize. 30:34.600 --> 30:37.700 This is something to pay very, very close attention to 30:37.700 --> 30:41.100 and listen very carefully to in verse number eight. 30:41.100 --> 30:41.600 It says, 30:41.600 --> 30:44.600 The wicked walk on every side 30:44.600 --> 30:48.500 when the vilest men are exalted. 30:48.500 --> 30:50.000 And that's the title of my sermon, 30:50.000 --> 30:53.000 When the vilest men are exalted. 30:53.200 --> 30:56.800 when the vilest men are exalted, the lowest of the low, 30:56.800 --> 31:01.440 the scum of the earth, when they're elevated in a culture, 31:01.440 --> 31:03.600 you have certain consequences. 31:03.600 --> 31:06.040 There's a product that flows from that. 31:06.040 --> 31:08.580 There are results, there's very rotten fruit 31:08.580 --> 31:11.780 that comes when the vilest men are exalted. 31:11.780 --> 31:13.720 And so I want to warn you tonight about that. 31:13.720 --> 31:17.120 I want to warn you about the consequences. 31:17.120 --> 31:19.960 There are very real consequences. 31:20.300 --> 31:26.140 when a group of people decide to elevate the vilest of men. 31:26.140 --> 31:31.700 When a nation decides to elevate and exalt the vilest of men, 31:31.700 --> 31:35.300 there are real consequences that all of us have to deal with. 31:37.600 --> 31:40.640 People have evil role models today. 31:40.640 --> 31:43.360 They don't look up to righteous people. 31:43.360 --> 31:45.240 They look up to the wicked. 31:45.240 --> 31:50.320 You have the masses exulting, just the lowest of the low. 31:50.320 --> 31:52.900 People with large followings online. 31:53.000 --> 31:56.400 who are just total dirtbags that nobody should be following, 31:56.400 --> 31:59.100 that nobody should be getting any kind of advice from, 31:59.100 --> 32:02.400 and yet they're the ones with the largest viewer base 32:02.400 --> 32:04.800 and the largest number of subscribers 32:04.800 --> 32:08.400 and the biggest influence in our world right now. 32:08.400 --> 32:10.400 And it's a problem. 32:10.400 --> 32:12.700 Let's look at Malachi 2, Malachi 2. 32:14.800 --> 32:19.200 When the vilest men are exalted, there are real consequences for that. 32:19.200 --> 32:24.720 And you know what? Somebody needs to speak up and say something and be honest about this issue, 32:25.520 --> 32:28.720 or else the world's just going to continue on its bobsled straight to hell. 32:30.240 --> 32:32.640 Somebody has to be honest about what's going on. 32:32.640 --> 32:36.000 And you know what? Tonight you walked into a Bible-believing Baptist church. 32:36.600 --> 32:41.720 That gives you the truth unfiltered and that's what you're gonna get tonight. You're gonna get the truth unfiltered 32:41.980 --> 32:45.080 Welcome to the house of God the pillar and ground of the truth 32:46.940 --> 32:51.860 The Bible says he that saith unto the wicked thou art righteous him shall the people curse 32:52.780 --> 32:55.160 Nations shall abhor him. So according to the Word of God 32:55.940 --> 32:58.600 There's actually hatred reserved for those 32:59.300 --> 33:02.900 who call the wicked righteous, who would look at a person 33:02.900 --> 33:08.180 who's obviously abhorrent and lift them up as a role model, somebody to follow, 33:08.180 --> 33:13.460 exalt them. And we need to be putting people in their proper category. 33:13.460 --> 33:18.540 Bible says in Malachi 2, look at verse 17, Malachi 2 and verse 17, 33:18.540 --> 33:23.340 You have wearied the Lord with your words, yet you say, wherein have we wearied him? 33:23.340 --> 33:24.020 When you say, 33:24.020 --> 33:26.620 Everyone that doeth evil is good. 33:27.700 --> 33:29.200 Did you notice that? 33:29.200 --> 33:33.700 Everyone that doeth evil is good in the sight of the Lord. 33:33.700 --> 33:37.600 And he delighteth in them, or where is the God of judgment? 33:37.600 --> 33:42.800 So we have people here where they're just acting like God's not going to do anything to them. 33:42.800 --> 33:49.700 And additionally, they're saying that people who do evil are actually good in the sight of the Lord. 33:49.700 --> 33:54.700 And man, if this isn't like seemingly the number one problem we have in popular culture right now. 33:55.100 --> 33:58.900 People look at those who are clearly by every single metric 33:59.820 --> 34:04.060 For somebody that has a brain in their head anybody that has a brain in their head can recognize 34:04.360 --> 34:06.820 That they're evil and then they say all that person's good 34:07.220 --> 34:14.760 Let's follow them and it wearies the Lord to say that those who are evil are good. It reflects a backwards morality 34:15.800 --> 34:20.600 And the Bible talks about how in Isaiah chapter 5, there's a special judgment 34:20.600 --> 34:23.880 woe unto those that call sweet bitter, bitter sweet. 34:25.000 --> 34:29.400 The inversion of morality, it makes God very angry. It makes me angry. 34:29.400 --> 34:32.120 Let's look at 1 Kings 12, 1 Kings 12. 34:34.800 --> 34:41.960 Proverbs also tells us when the righteous are in authority the people rejoice but when the wicked beareth rule the people mourn 34:42.280 --> 34:44.840 Hey, there's mourning when wicked people rule and 34:45.920 --> 34:47.920 That's why I think it's appropriate 34:48.840 --> 34:56.200 To mourn for America because the wicked rule in this country and what do we have coming from that you have oppression? 34:56.200 --> 34:58.200 You have hard times you have evil 34:58.800 --> 35:02.400 And here in 1 Kings 12, when Israel is split into two kingdoms, 35:02.400 --> 35:06.800 Jeroboam establishes a counterfeit religion. 35:06.800 --> 35:12.000 And he's known as someone who, his rebellion is infectious to the rest of the nation. 35:12.000 --> 35:16.000 He, in a sense, teaches Israel to commit the same sins that he's doing 35:16.000 --> 35:22.960 and to go down the same path of false religion and rebellion against God and to sin in the same way. 35:22.960 --> 35:26.000 And in 1 Kings 12, look at verse 28. 35:26.600 --> 35:28.300 where the Bible reads in verse 28, 35:28.300 --> 35:31.400 whereupon the king took counsel and made two calves of gold 35:31.400 --> 35:32.600 and said unto them, 35:32.600 --> 35:35.100 it is too much for you to go up to Jerusalem. 35:35.100 --> 35:37.200 Behold thy gods, O Israel, 35:37.200 --> 35:39.000 which brought thee up out of the land of Egypt. 35:39.000 --> 35:41.700 So we have idolatry established 35:41.700 --> 35:43.500 in the northern kingdom of Israel. 35:44.200 --> 35:49.160 And the reason why is because Jeroboam doesn't want to lose the influence of the people. 35:49.160 --> 35:55.160 If they were to leave his territory and go down to serve God in Jerusalem in the southern kingdom 35:55.160 --> 35:59.800 of Judah, then they would be far away from him. He would lose their influence. He would lose 35:59.800 --> 36:04.760 authority and power. He doesn't want that. And so in verse 29, notice, and he said, 36:04.760 --> 36:08.300 one in Bethel talking about an idol. 36:08.700 --> 36:11.200 which this is, of course, particularly insulting 36:11.200 --> 36:14.600 because this, at one point, is where the presence of God 36:14.600 --> 36:18.400 dwelt, in Bethel, and the other put he in Dan, 36:18.400 --> 36:22.000 and this thing became a sin for the people went to worship 36:22.000 --> 36:23.800 before the one even unto Dan. 36:23.800 --> 36:25.900 So you have idols that are set up in Bethel, 36:25.900 --> 36:28.300 you have idols that are set up in Dan, 36:28.300 --> 36:32.200 you have counterfeit religion, you have idolatry. 36:32.600 --> 36:37.000 Why? Again, Jeroboam doesn't want to lose the influence of the people. 36:37.000 --> 36:41.500 And he didn't want them traveling down to Jerusalem to worship, 36:41.500 --> 36:44.000 but rather staying right where they are. 36:44.000 --> 36:49.700 And so when corruption abounds, what comes with it is false religion. 36:49.700 --> 36:56.000 When you have the vilest men exalted, you have false religion that comes as a result. 36:56.000 --> 36:59.600 And in Israel at this time, they did exalt the vilest of men. 37:00.100 --> 37:04.500 and you had really bad leadership, and you had bad people running amok, 37:04.500 --> 37:09.100 doing whatever it is that their wicked heart wants to their content, 37:09.100 --> 37:13.000 and you have false religion that comes as a result of that. 37:13.000 --> 37:15.500 You have lies elevated as a result of that. 37:15.500 --> 37:21.200 If you want to elevate bad people, don't be surprised when lies are elevated right along with them, 37:21.200 --> 37:23.600 because bad people speak lies. 37:24.200 --> 37:26.900 And so what do we have? Well, you know, when I read this passage, 37:26.900 --> 37:29.800 I think of a particular false religion that comes to mind. 37:29.800 --> 37:33.200 It's called Catholicism.
